At the end of january 2017, I received an email from fpl advising that it would be sending out a crew to our local neighborhoods to trim tree branches interfering with the power lines. On march 22, 2017, a crew from fpl in fact came to my home located at 806 se 14th st, fort lauderdale, fl 33316. Not only did the fpl tree trimming crew damage several of my patio lights, they accepted a cash payment from my neighbor to do private trimming of branches growing over my neighbors propert from the tree located on my property. However, these branches that were privately requested to be trimmed were not interfering with the power lines. More importantly, I recently had an arborist trim portions of the tree growing into my neighbors yards. The arborist advised that substantial damage to the tree would occur if major limbs were removed and could potentially throw the weight of the tree off. Unfortunately, this tree trimming crew by fpl who I do not believe to be certified arborist trimmed substantial limbs that did not interfere with power lines without consulting with me, the home owner. Now, I am fearful that serious damage has been done to the tree as there are noticeable and substantial cracks to the base of the tree in just a mere 12 days since they butchered my tree. I have filed a complaint with fort lauderdale tree code enforcement but this issue needs to be addressed with fpl. The fpl information online regarding neighbor line clearing or tree trimming specially states that fpl will only remove branches interfering with power lines and will not do any private trimming - especially without the home owner's permission.
