I have a newly turned 5-year-old diagnosed with moderate-severe Autism. He was receiving ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis), Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy under Staywell’s MediKids insurance plan (in which we have always paid the highest premium under that plan) until October 2021 when we lost his Speech and Occupational Therapy due to the...

Florida Healthy Kids Insurance Cancellation

I received a letter for renewal, asking for paycheck information. I sent in the info as requested in September. They asked me for more info which I emailed to them. According to the first person I spoke with they received all the information on Oct. 1st yet they did NOT enter it. I then received a letter in the mail telling me of the cancellation. I called yet again and was told by an employee with Florida Healthy Kids that yes they received the information that they needed and everything was fine this last Friday (October 10th). Well he was WRONG! I called again today trying to get this fixed. Spoke to a supervisor and she said that they would make sure that the info I sent in would be updated. Great you did that, yet now they are telling me that both of my children are NOT enrolled and it may take up to 10 business days to re-enroll them! Yet we have been with them for 2 years! Now my son has a huge break in his finger/hand and I can't afford to take him to the doctor ($600-800 for this visit) because my insurance has been cancelled. Even though I did everything that they asked! We have been shuffled around to different people telling us they will call us back! How does that help my son? He needs to go to the doctor ASAP and all you can say is "We are sorry. There is no supervisor available we can have someone call you back in 24 to 48 hours"... This is unacceptable! All I want to do is help my child and fix him yet I CAN'T!

Florida Healthy Kids sons health insurance

I have a six year old son who desperately needs medical attention due to various illnesses. I applied for Florida Healthy Kids 4 months ago. I have called them to try to find out the status. Each time I call, a staff member tells me to call back. I can NEVER get a straight answer from these people. Each time I call I get a different story as to why my sons policy is not active. I called six times yesterday, three times my call was dropped having me wait an extra 20 mintes each trying to find the right person to speak with, twice I was told to call back next week, that my sons policy was still updating, once I was told that his insurance was still pending due to non payment! This is outrageous! My son is suffering here and Florida Healthy Kids is taking their sweet time about it. I have left a message for supervisors and I still have nothing. I am tired of watching my sons health drop while these people get their act together. Something definitely needs to be done here. People are hurting. The staff of Florida healthy kids are idiots!

This State program is one of the worst all around for answers or getting anything done!
Numerous times I send the paperwork and its never enough! I don't want any help as I will pay the max. One period last year my son went to the hospital and my charge was over $19, 000 (I was without coverage) it seems I was dropped for something and had to fight to get the bill reduced! March each year is usually when I get in this situation.. Cant figure out what they want?
Here it is 2018 and again i'm trying to get reinsured in May after cancelled in March.

This is supposed to be an organization to help people get health insurance for their kids. Their website says it takes 4-6 weeks to process the application. I applied more than 6 weeks ago. During this time I sent in the same requested papers 3 times and my account still says that I have not done so! I also sent them 3 e-mails during the past 2 weeks as I really need the health insurance for my son. Nobody ever answered any of them. Oh, and forget about calling them. Do not expect help! God help you if you need help from them!

I have had issues with Healthy Kids and they never seem to be sympathetic or understanding. Always rude and never get calls back. I recently was told my premium will go up from $20 to $296 PER MONTH. I was totally frustrated while I was going through these posts at first and thought... they were so long ago. Well, please do not be fooled, Healthy Kids is a total joke. No one ever knows what is going on, people are just outright rude and to make matters worse, they cover up each others mistakes. If you ever have a problem with your policy (mine was as simple as not being able to sign in to make a payment), don't bother calling because you will not get "the customer is always right" approach. Here is my story- I could not sign in to make a payment and called the automated system and could not get through because the system did not find my account. I hung up and called Healthy Kids and pressed zero to speak with an Agent. The Agent said that I should leave my job and drive to a Fidelity 1 1/2 hours away from my home to go make a payment! Incredible, but true! There was no way that they would take the payment over the phone even though they recognized that it was through no fault of my own. However, I was also told that if I did not make my payment in two days, my son's policy would be cancelled for non-payment. Want to add insult to injury? I have a $114 credit and need only pay $29. They have the $114, but still threaten to cancel my policy anyway! I am appalled and searching for new insurance. This is ridiculous!

One of the reasons why I made an account was in order to focus on health insurance.
Good luck to you and hope all improves!

I applied for coverage for my daughter on March 9, 2012, not for a handout, but because of unemployment and drastic loss of income. I sent all the paperwork they asked for to verify income, it took them two months to tell me that one of the papers wasn't satisfactory, they would require a different form of verification. Finally got approved in a letter dated May 31, 2012, with a coverage start date of June 1, 2012. I did an online payment on the day I received the letter (May 31). On June 8 I received a letter stating that my payment was late? Okay, I made another online payment on June 11. Payment coupons finally arrived a few days later with the first payment due date of June 1, which I marked paid because of the May 31 payment I had already made. I also marked the second payment coupon (due date of July 1) because of the June 11 payment. If you're following along here, you'll see that there were two payments due since coverage started, both of which were made. The third payment coupon is due on August 1. Today (July 14) I received a late notice AGAIN, and when I log into our account it seems to be inactivated. Of course it is a Saturday so I can get no one on the phone until Monday morning at 7:30, if I can get through the phone lines at all. Understaffed, under payed...yeah, I get all that, but what the heck do they expect when we do what the payment coupons say and the STILL cancel our account? My daughter just started getting the help she needs, and now we have to wait another 30 days? You bet I'll be contacting my representative!

I got my daughter in to this because my husband and I are not offered insurance at work. We got approved YAY and I immediately did the online payment for $15.00 which is was so happy you couldn't believe how happy i was I printed the receipt and I go and check my bank and they took $35.00 instead of the $15.00 as stated on my receipt. Now I am scared that they are going to be taking more money out of my account. BTW they left us with .34 in the bank. We get paid on Friday which shouldn't be a issue, but I wonder how they can say $15.00 but then go and charge $35.00 without prior consent. If I would have known I would have paid on Friday so we won't be struggling a few days. Its kinda crappy but it is insurance but it seems that broke a few laws. Like you going to the store buying something for $15.00 paid for with debit card a few days later when u check your bank the store took out double, first thing you would probably do is head straight to the bank get a copy of the statement then go to the store with statement and receipt in hand and raise wholly hell to find a answer. I am going to have to keep a eye out for this company this is my daughters well being and our familys well being at stake here

I have to say after reading all these comments, I am quite scared about the application I just sent in. I hope I don't have as many problems as all of you have had. I am sure there are incompetent people working at FHK, but I am equally amazed at how many people didn't pay attention in school! Not only should you do a spell check, but a grammar and a punctuation CHECK! Get it together parents- it's no wonder you are having trouble !

I do agree that when you call Healthy Kids, you get different answers from diff. staff members. It's hard to figure out how to get a real live person on the other end too. I had a woman helping me on the phone who couldn't answer most of my questions, or even bother to tell me she would find out for me. "I don't know" was her answer for everything. Well then, FIND SOMEONE WHO DOES KNOW SHEESH. Does anyone know the options for providers? I know two of them, Amerigroup and United. Are there more? My son needs surgery soon and I did call that doc to find out which healthy kids insurance they accepted. Healthy kids price does beat the cobra we'd have to pay for the kids which was like 1000.00 for the two boys per month. I am full pay as well.
Good luck everyone. Welcome to America.

I am beyond aggervated with Healthy Kids. My son had a seizure Wednesday. I went to the Dr. and they said they did not accept my insurance. I then spent 5 hours on the phone searching for a Neurologist that would take my insurance. I finallyfound one two and half hours from where I was at, then I called to get my son in and they needed a referral. I thought that would not be a big deal but NO. My previous pediatrician did not take the insurance either. So then I had to find a new pediatrician that takes the insurance ( which shouldn't be that difficult but it is). Now my son has had several insurance while I have been waiting to go to the NEW pediatrician to get a referral to the Neurologist. To have a sick child is stressful but to be told everywhere you go or call that they do not take the insurance is RIDICUALOUS. On top of that the United Health Care Insurance representative told me that I just needed to deal with it because this is a government handout and I should be thankful for what I have...well I Pay full premiums for my insurance...trying to get my children the best coverage available but boy was I wrong . Now my children are stuck with this insurance because my place of employment does not have open enrollment until June. I would not recommend anyone to receive this healthcare if you have a child with sickness.
