Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Family Dollar handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Family Dollar and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Family Dollar they treat there employees horrible

I am very angry with the district manager of store number 2932. Annette is her name. We were employed to move this store from one location to another and doing this we were supposed to be paid today. i called her today and she decides to tell me that im not getting pain untill thursday becuase she is to busy to bring the pay card to Newberry becuase she has a inventory to due ... well im here to tell you that when you hire sombody to do somthing and you tell them what day your getting paid then thats what day they need to be paid. there are 14 pissed off people right now that there pay isnt here and all i can say is that if nothing is done to this annette lady than i will see to it that matters will be taken into our own hands and by the time this is done she will be out of a job or the corperation will be out of alot more money than just our pay check ammounts The Stores accual Manager busts her butt to do everything she can around there including staying there from open to close almost every day to make sure everything is getting done... but that annette lady is the cause of the anger in these 14 people.

And also our Store manager does a wonderful job and the District Manager is the one who i could care less about but noone is going to do any harm to anyone other than not stopping untill they r dismissed from there job so its 14 people versus 1 district manager odds may even be against us but we will see the outcome.

I'm agree Family Dollar is not a good business ethic practice place.

If you are a good person most likely you won't last, because what you have to do is against to you believes and ethic practices.

And the price you have to paid for is not worth it, the salary is very low in comparison to other stores.

I agree Family dollar DOES NOT care about the employee's or the customers.

I was a store manager for family dollar for two years at two stores, we had 3 district managers in 6 months, one was sent to another district, one quit and told me it was because of the way family dollar treated their employee's. and the new one is to my knowledge still there even though he has caused family dollar to be sued by employee's for false imprisonment and wrongful termination.

I worked for them for two years as a store manager and 6 months before that as an assistant manager. the first store i took over i had no complaints from the DM and glowing employee reviews the second store i took over had 6 managers in a year and the inventory was in shambles from theft by employee's and shoplifters.

i was told the day i took the store that there was one employee who was a thief and i needed to fire her. (i thought if they knew she was a thief why did they leave firing to the new manager and not fire her when they caught her stealing.?)

when i took the store it was october which was past due for the halloween to displayed none of it was displayed, and it was now time to start displaying thanksgiving and christmas products. all of the halloween, christmas and thanksgiving were in the stock room still.

( i got chewed out the first week i was there for not getting halloween, thanksgiving and christmas out on the shelf...the stacks of these products were huge and new room had to be made for these products on the shelf.)

the first ditrict mgr left after my second week being manager.
the new district came in and had a great attitude! he immediately started trying to train me as a store mgr since i recieved no training previously.

went well, then the new mgr quit about 5 months later telling me he couldnt stay as long as family dollar treated the employee's the way they did. they even encouraged him to treat the employee's the same way and he refused to do so.

after he left the new district took over, #3...
my store had been getting grades of a's and b's with the two prior district mgrs. and with this new 3rd DM i suddenly started getting f's.

Sales were higher than they had ever been after i took the store and i even beat some of the million dollar stores in sales a few times.

yet my store grades were all failing. my store was always clean fronted and stocked.

the new DM came in one day to do an audit and said my store was 19k short on inventory for that month, ( i knew this was impossible...for that to have happened all the employee's would have had to steal by the cart load daily...)
he wrote me up and i contacted loss prevention and they reviewed the audit and found the DM had made a mistake in his calculations. they tore up that write up and took it off my record.

the next month the DM decided to do another store audit, he said then that i was 2, 600.00 short in inventory for the month and wrote me up again.
i explained that the shortage was in truck shortage..
The trucks deliver stock once a week at that store and were short in their deliveries and i reported it properly and documented everything.
and had the proof. it added up to 2, 517.00

the rest of the 2600.00 shortage was well documented in the company computer as empty packages i had found in the store due to suspected shoplifting.
still the DM wrote me up for it.

the next month the DM came back the same thing occured.
i had more documentation showing new shortages on the trucks.
(both myself and my assistant kept seperate counts of inventory as it was unloaded and we came up with the same numbers and shortages.)

I was written up again and terminated.

I filed complaints with H.R. and the regional mgr called me. it was then i found out i was supposed to have taken managers assessment tests, and those were done by the first dm without my knowledge.

the first dm is still employed by family dollar and so is the last.

yet good employee's who care about their store are terminated because family dollar fails to care about their employee's and allows it's DM's to walk all over good people.

the second store i was mgr for 6 months and they put all of the theft and shrink from the previous 5 mgrs who ran it in that year
on me.

Just be careful what you write on the internet, or anywhere for that matter. If you use names, places, dates you could be found libel if the other party feels it is damaging to their reputation. You could also be accussed of slander if you are saying things that could be interpretted as damaging the other parties reputation, character, etc. Also, as someone pointed out when you wrote about causing physical harm or the intent that could be considered means and motive if you carry out that act. Which is also assualt and battery. I'm not sure how your state handles those charges, but I'm pretty sure it would involve some jail time. So be careful.

I would have to agree with this Greg Mattson, I was employed with a newly built Family Dollar store up until yesterday 02/03/2011 when I resigned under pressure. I have witnessed this done to a worker at our store, you see back in November 2010 I was interviewed by the District Manager of region 31 for a Store Manager position in Sisseton, So. Dak, in which I refused because I applied for Assistant Store Manager. When she had picked the Store Manager for our location I was called in for a job offer as Assistant Store Manager with the rate of pay being $ 10.00 P/H, so I went to meet with the District Manager and Store Manager I agreed to the position, later that evening the Store Manager had called me at my home and advised me I would be the First Assistant Store Manager for more money, just I couldnt tell no one. So I accepted it, I and another Assistant Store Manager were sent to Assistant Training for a few weeks until the store was to have it's grand opening, once we completed our training and the store opened I came to work and was told by the other Assistant she was picked as First Assistant Store Manager when it was to my knowledge I was already placed in this position by the Store Manager over the phone.

So when I questioned him about it, he was at first in denial, than his excuse was that she had 12 years grocery-retail experience as a cashier, front end supervisor, book keeper, I quickly reminded him of what he said over the phone to me and that I had recently worked for a WalMart Supercenter as a Department Manager in the Meat/Seafood Dept. and left WalMart as a Human Resource Manager/Training Coordinator/Benefits Specialist. He said no more about it and she was placed as First Assistant, in the mean time I noticed my pay stubs still stating I was making $ 9.50 P/H and not the $ 10 P/H we agreed upon, when i approached him again he informed me that the District Manager approved our store with 11 employees the largest amount of workers in the district to promote a Customer Service Assistant to be utilized as a 3rd Assistant Manager, so when she was promoted she was to make $ 9.50 P/H and she was making $ 8.00 P/H and performing all the duties of an Assistant Manager and this continued on up until she resigned 01/28/2011, she had called the DM several times about her pay which was never adjusted and when she asked about her back pay the DM told her she wouldn't see it.

When I was first interviewed for this position I was lied to by both the Store Manager and DM about my title, pay and they both told me us Assistants would never fall under 40 hours a week, gradually my hours every week would drop by one hour than 3 than 4. In the meantime the First Assistant would stay at 39.50 hours a week, I was assigned to be the night Manager-On-Duty and the Store Manager fired one of my workers for having 3 SAER reports and another one for repeative Tardiness, leaving me one employee on nights, plus i was wrote up for not writing the one worker up for tardiness in which she was only late twice and it was during snow storms. Well with just two of us on nights we closed the store at 9p.m., I would declare myself out, count my drawer down and drop my pickup than do the same with my one cashier, after he was done, i would assign him recovery/facing duties plus sweeping mopping and bathrooms, because I still had to count petty cash and the nightly deposit, we had to be out of there by 9:30 P.M. or it was a write-up for both of us, the SM always told me to start recovery 4 hours before closing, however that was hard to do when I only had one employee at Night and when he was off I was by myself, so one night I missed the deposit by $500 and the bank called the SM the same day the DM showed up for a store visit, The DM had told the SM to suspend and terminate me twice before for petty stuff that wasnt a big random deal, well this time the DM came when I was on days off, upon my return to work I clocked in and the cashier told me the SM and First Assistant needed to see me in the office so I went there and walked in low and behold the SM had 3 write-ups waiting for me, he advised me the DM wanted me fired on the spot, however he was giving me three options 1. Take a demotion to a cashier for 15 hours a week (the least amount of hours of any cashier) 2. Resign from my job or 3. be terminated, i took all my keys off my retractor threw them on his desk and said I resign effective immediately, he asked if i wanted to sign or have copies of the write-ups I stated no and said adios and left the office without even clocking out.

In my opinion in the two and half months of working for Family Dollar I have seen retail at it's worst, I have seen them take advantage of their workers, no appreciation or compassion what so ever, they encourage cut throat behaviors and like it when Assistant Store Managers back stabbed one another, there is no humanity making employees unload a truck of frieght in frigid cold temperatures, not excusing family emergencies and writing employees up over senseless stuff. Family Dollar is not Family Oriented they could care less about their workers or their families for that matter the encourage slave driving tactics, threaten and instil fear in employees, they are all about the money, everyone is replaceable in their eyes, no matter how good of an employee or manager is, I know first hand that 3 North Dakota Stores had all 3 Store Managers and All Assistants walk off the job only a few weeks apart, now tell me the reason why and how come they cannot fill these positions. I need my job i have a family to support too, but not at 15 hours a week and you really think they care, HELL no 5 minutes after I resigned I was replaced by a cashier. So I do not think so highly of Family Dollar as a former Assistant Manager and my family and extended family will not even shop there again.. Good Bye Family Dollar.

Family Dollar poor customer service

Visited Store number 7535 which is located in Bladenboro NC. Employee, by the name of Shanna talked on the cell phone during the entire time I was standing in line. I noticed she was on her cell phone with her friends (as you can tell by the conversation) and was waiting on customers, taking and exchanging monies all while talking on the cell phone. That is some of the worst customer service and no way for any cashier to act.

There was even a separate incident during the Christmas Holiday that I observed monies (piles of it) just laying in the open behind the counter giving no regard to their safety nor the customers. That is a very poorly operated store (its a joke). The managers are even too friendly with their staff. They appear to have a hard time distinguishing their role as managers from their new hired friends.

There are true individuals that need a job and that staff in Bladenboro, NC need to be completely fired and new staff plus managers should be replaced. It is absolutely unbelievable!

Family Dollar racist

I am writing to complain about Ethel, who is the manager at the Family Dollar Store in downtown Sharon, PA. I feel as though she absolutely HATES white people, especially white women! Every single time I have been in that store, she is not friendly, will not help you to find items that you need. She is very nasty with white people at the cash register. When she is attending the register and a black person goes in her lane, she is nice and laughs with them--a totally different person though when a white person goes to her lane. She is NOT a people person and doesn't deserve the position that she has been given to her. I hear her talking badly about her co-workers, a white lady who's name is Joyce. I have not seen Joyce in quite some time.. I don't know if she quit or was fired, I do not appreciate a cashier/ manager talking to me like I was a dog! She never says thank you or hello-NOT EVEN ONCE! Why would she be in this profession since she has a rotten personality and acts like she is better than anybody else, except black people. Please handle this problem, I spend a lot of money in those stores and I will change and hand my money to a person who appreciates it! he is a very rotten indivdual. I have no reason to lie!

I think if they can't handle the job they should find an easier job! There is no need to be rotten to a paying customer! This woman has not 1 time ever been nice--I could care less if she is mopping the floor! When she took the job, they had to have told her the duties she was to perform! Oh well, it is Family Dollar's loss, my money is green just like anybody elses! Let them stick that in their pipe and smoke it!

Since this last event with this woman at Family Dollar, I DO SHOP elsewhere! Why do I want to give her a nice bonus at the end of the year? WRONG! She made it very possitive that she hates white women! So she can stuff that store where the sun don't shine!

My complaint is not about your store items, but about the illegal emigrants that you have hired at your store on Telephone Rd in Houston. I know this man has false papers that he bought them at the flea market and even has warrants out for his arrest. How do you expect us to feel comfortable in your store when you have these type of employees. In order for you to fill your positions with cheap labor you decide to hire the worst of the worst. Don't you realize that WE-the Americans are having to pay for their benefits? We need jobs too! You should be ashamed of yourself, trying to act like you are for the FAMILY but instead you hit us where it hurts the most, our pocketbooks. You evidently are not using the background check system(again to save money), nor are you following the law. The law states that if caught the company will be liable for a BIG FINE. We will never visit your store again - those criminals belong in jail or shipped back to their country.

This entire complaint makes no sense at all? There are thousands of illegal immigrants working in the US. If you have supposive proof that this employee is in fact an illegal and bought his papers at a flea market? How in the hell would you even know that for one and why did you not call the federal government on this person if you know this? Ummm...not the police. It appears to me to be gossip, jealousy and yes racism which by the way is against the law in the workplace so you may want to have all of your facts before proceeding or you yourself could be sued for false accusations and falsifying a report!

"but, why is it only the mexicans that are usually the ones that come in illegally and very few others do?"

I think there are a lot of illegals from everywhere here because it's such an awesome place to be.. but.. Mexico does share a border with us, so they just have better access than everyone else. And their country is ###, so I don't blame them for wanting to leave it.

Difference in opinion then I guess.

"I know this man has false papers that he bought them at the flea market and even has warrants out for his arrest." This is just a crazy sentence to me. Unless he witnessed it, how would he know this? If he knows that this person has a warrant out for his arrest, he must know this employee personally (otherwise, it would just be hear-say). Which THEN would make me think he has some type of grudge against him for a reason not specified. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it... but it still seems a liittttlllee racist :)

What I'm saying is.. How does he even know this guy is illegal? Because his friend said that he heard from his cousin that this particular employee got papers from a flea market? Sounds racist to me.

I read it as.. "Ship this guy back to his country even though I don't know 100% for sure that he's here legally or not.. he's brown/black/yellow/not like me so he must be here illegally..."

I'm all for deporting illegals and encourage anyone here illegally to conform to the American way of life and go through the proper channels to become a US citizen, but you can't just assume that because someone isn't like you, they're here illegally or have warrants out for their arrest.

I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN BUT I KNOW THE FAMILY DOLLAR DOES NOT HIRE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO RUN THEIR STORES. ITS ALWAYS BEEN ONE PERSON PUT IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING AND THEY ARE NOT PAID A WELL ENOUGH SALARY FOR ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND STRESS THAT IS THROWN UPON THEM AND YES THEY DO GET VERY FRUSTRATED. I'VE ALWAYS SEEN ONE PERSON IN CHARGE UNLOADING THEIR TRUCKS THEM SELVES AND STOCKING THE STORE WHILE STILL MANAGING EMPLOYEE TIMES AND BREAKS AND CUSTOMERS AND EVEN OPENING THE OTHER REGISTER WHEN ITS BUSY, AND THEN RUN BACK TO FINISH UNLOADING AND STOCKING THE STORE. THAT ONE PERSON IS ALSO SECURITY. THEY USUALLY HAVE ONLY ONE PERSON ON THE REGISTER AND THE OTHER PERSON DOING EVERYTHING ELSE. ONLY DURING HOLIDAYS THEY MAY HAVE TWO CASHIERS AND THE OTHER PERSON STILL DOING EVERYTHING ELSE. I GUESS YOU CAN SAY THAT FAMILY DOLLAR ONLY HIRES EMPLOYEES TO WORK ON A BUDDY SYSTEM...ONLY TWO EMPLOYES ON THE CLOCK AT ONE TIME AT ALL THEIR LOCATIONS WITH EXCEPTION FOR HOLIDAYS. THAT JOB REALLY SUCKS.

Family Dollar an employee

I was just in the store on Lake Bradford Rd in Tallahassee FL, approximately 1:50-2pm on 120210, and the cashier a tall, slim black male, has used the worst customer service skills I have ever seen, he just cursed out a couple customers, i just called and asked for the number for the headquarters, and he hung up on me. I am calling back right now and the phone is just ringing. This man needs to be removed from this store immediately. He is a disgrace to your company. I also received a phone number from one of the other customers he just fussed and cursed with. I am awaiting a response

Family Dollar team member no one to turn to!

I am the assistant manager at a family dollar. We got a new manager about 3 months ago. Our last manager was transfered to another store. This manager is insanely rude! Has made our new assistant (who is still in training) cry and feel like an outcast. Uses phrases like "This is an A and B conversation so C your way out!" to her. Calling her names. Constantly picking at us and making us nervous. She has no customer service skills. Our customers can't stand her and we have even lost some. We do everything she wants but if we forget to do a small little thing... it's over and she wont forget about it. She leaves the new assistant alone for hours at a time. She is not fully trained. Ger register was short 15 dollars because she didn't do a return right and the manager was nowhere to be found to help her. I ended up having to fix it and she had nothing but negative crap to say about it the next day. We bend over backwards to make her happy while she does nothing but gripe. Our stockroom looks horrible because she wont make sure stock is getting put out through out the week if it is back stock. She has me do other things and I do nothing but close so I don't have time to every work on the backroom because we have to recover at 5. She brings her personal problems to work and some of her personal problems are putting us in danger.

I can't go to the DM because everyone at Family Dollar knows that the DM does not like AM to come to him about anything. You will end up getting fired. I can't work under these conditions but I can't quit my job either. No where to go. No one to talk to. FD's Open door policy is a JOKE

Family Dollar abuse of power (manager)

I am a current cashier at the Family Dollar in Kyle TX. Therefore I cant really give detail about myself or my co workers. Im very angry because recently I have noticed of the abuse that the new store manager is doing. Ever since she was transferred from Toledo, Ohio the store, its employees and customers have been suffering greatly.I noticed that she was really lazy and didnt do much except to go back to her office everytime a cashier comes in. She is always talking on the phone or in the computer instead of helping us complete our tasks. Less than 2 weeks ago one of my co workers got injured doing truck and she didnt report this till 2 days later thanks to her my coworkers case got denied...Alot of customers have stopped coming to our store because she is not friendly..everytime she wants to give me an order she has an attitude and today was my day off and she has been calling me none stop just to tell me to approve my hours...she even sent one of my coworkers to my house to tell me that...everytime she makes the schedules she puts herself to work at 6am and we dont even open till 8am or 9am and makes the poor assistant manager do her job and work overtime and has cut my hours greatly...and the other day that the truck came in at 11:40-12pm she made the truck driver wait for an hour outside until 1pm which was when the assistant manager was coming...she didnt even open the back door to start unloading the truck...the driver was very mad and i wouldnt be surprised if he has already complaint...she so rude and i hope she gets fired

Family Dollar unprofessionalism of store manager

I have lived in this city for 39 years. I have been a consumer at our local Family Dollar Store for most of my adult life. That is until an employee named "ANGIE" began to manage this particular (and the only one in our city) store. I do not know her last name, but I do believe she is now store manager. She is the rudest human being I've ever encountered in my entire life. I have talked to so many people who claim they are going to call and complain about her, but nobody seems to have a "CORPORATE OFFICE" number. I called another store this evening and they didn't even have the number to the "Corporate Office"...I wonder why that is? If something is NOT done soon regarding this particular "manager" in our Lake Butler store, NOBODY will be shopping there if I or about 50 others have anything to do with it. We have a brand new "DOLLAR GENERAL STORE" in our very small town, and people are going to that store because of the poor customer service the "FAMILY DOLLAR" manager portrays in our small town. If you would like to speak with me, my name is KELLY RAE DUKES and my home phone number is [protected] I will be more than willing to answer any and all questions you may have. Thank you.

All I can say, is read the following from a former manager of "Family" Dollar. As a former manager, I can tell you that MY family wasn't of any concern to the company-but I made sure my customers families were taken care of. It wasn't easy keeping a "plastic" smile on my face. My blood pressure was up (two weeks after I left, it was back down to a normal range) and I was on medication for stress-not necessary any more, and I HATED my life. Before you get mad because someone "mistreats" you, take some time to ask yourself, have YOU always treated people with the dignity they deserve or are you one of those who thinks you can be rude and because you are the customer you are always right. Walk a mile in my shoes and see how polite YOU are...

Almost six years ago I began my career with Family Dollar Stores. I was told that I would do my training in a store 35 miles away from my home, and then I would be transferred to Stroudsburg, a new store. The new store in Stroudsburg never opened. I accepted store #3155, Allentown, still 35 miles from my home until a location closer to my home would become available. Store #3155 was on the floor, no help, no Assistant Store Manager, schematics were not done in most Departments for 3 years. The stockroom was packed to the ceiling with freight. I had to work the store from open to close for eight weeks. 80 hours per week, no day off. I did all the schematics, emptied the stockroom, hired a staff, and trained an Assistant Store Manager. Inthe six years that I managed the store the sales increased over $400, 000. My store was always neat, clean, and totally recovered. Almost every store visit by my District Manager or Regional Manager I would receive a '5' on the Anytime 5 Reports. I always scored in the upper 90's on my Loss Prevention/Operational Audits. I was always very proud of my store, and it showed. I missed 2 days of work in 6 years. One sick. The other was a very bad ice/snowstorm. I was always asked to go help out in other stores with problems. I always went. I was a very dedicated and loyal employee and wanted to spend the rest of my life with Family Dollar Stores. During my 6 years I had 10 District Managers, and 4 Regional Managers.

About 3 years ago the neighborhood around the store started to turn bad. My old customers left. Bad ones came in. I asked time and time again for more payroll. I was unloading 600 - 800 cartons a week by myself because I could not keep the sales floor covered. I was in the store 16 hours a week by myself. My shrinkage started to increase. I was robbed at gunpoint. All my hair fell out. Never missed work. I was told that Family Dollar Stores would install a camera system. This never happened. Not quite a year went past and I was robbed again at gunpoint. I was told again that Family Dollar Stores would install a camera system. This never happened. However, I did receive a plastic camera to mount above the checkout area. I had to climb the ladder every 7 hours to replace the batteries in it. I was told that all my shrinkage is internal. I replaced most of the employees. Still the store is getting worse and worse. I am still in the store by myself. I worked every Saturday and Sunday open to close because this was when most of the problems occurred. I received no help from any District Manager. Just 'keep your eyes on things'.

Last September, my District Manager 'estimated' my shrinkage at $40.000. I was told that if the numbers don't hold I would be gone. The store is still getting worse. For 3 years I had all the high priced medicines under the checkout with shelf talkers on the counter. When I would receive my Weekly Exception Cycle Counts all medicines were accounted for. I was told to put the medicines back on the counter. Family Dollar Stores would order a special fixture for them to keep them up at the front. This never happened. All the medicines were gone in a week. When I would receive my Weekly Exception Counts anywhere between $60.00 - $100.00 per item were missing. It's all internal I was told. Two weeks before Labor Day I was watching a customer - he showed me a knife. Still by myself in the store.

I would travel back to the store on the nights that I would not close and watch. I would put money in the safe from my pocket to see if it would be there in the morning. I would put tape on the receiving door at the bottom to see if it would be opened after I left. I would draw pencil lines on the stockroom floor where the flex-roller wheels were at the receiving door to see if it was moved. I would place small pieces of wood outside behind the receiving door to see if the door was opened. I would have my friend call with my calling card (so it could not be traced) to ask if my District Manager was there - just to scare them if the employees were up to no good. I did everything I could think of and more. I did everything but run the store for the last 4 months. No help from anyone. None. Every 2 weeks my District Manager would come in and tell me how much more the inventory estimate was short.

My District Manager came to the store the second week in January and told me the shrinkage went up another $45, 000. Still by myself in the store for 10 - 12 hours a week. Continuing to work around 60 hours a week, and still helping out in other stores.

My last day I told my District Manager what I did to try to prevent the losses. I told him that if Store #3155 had the DVD camera system, like every other store has in the Allentown/Bethlehem area, we would not be in this situation. Northing was done to help me stop the losses.

Family Dollar wrongful terminations

I was a Store Manager for Family Dollar in Knoxville, TN. I was an unofficial training manager, I worked anywhere from 52 upto 80 hours in a week. The payroll was horrible I could not give my cashiers the time that they deserved and therefore cause a very difficult time finding people that wanted to stay with the company.

My crew and I had the sales volume up and on track to make over 1 million the year I was fired, which proves that we were doing a good job. I was elected to handle a crew to remodel some store's throughout the district, I had reservations against it from the get go but had to do it. Once I was on my last store I was pulled off the crew and put back into my store. I found out that the DM had placed me on investigation for payroll fraud.

This came about because he was setting up a parking lot sale and had transfered merchandise from all 20 store's to this one store. The total amount transfered was massive, so I contacted Loss Prevention. Little did I know that the LP and the DM were working together. The DM called me and required my crew to help set up this sale. I was told that I needed to tell my crew that overtime would be part of the deal. So, we went to work this sale and my crew ended up with around 20 hours of overtime each.

This is when the DM placed me on investigation. I contacted the Alert Line that is a huge joke, so don't even bother! I found out later that it just makes upper management mad to have to deal with a problem. I was never contacted back and I ended up loosing my job. When the LP came to interview me he gave me 10 or 12 questions that were writen out so that no matter how you answered it you would saying that you had done the exact thing they were accusing you of. When I brought this up he insulted me by questioning my education level (basically calling me ignorant). He then got mad because I would not sign the documents and asked for my keys and name badge.

I tryed to contact the regional and of course I got nothing, he would not even answer or call me back. I live in TN and this state is an At Will State. Meaning they can terminate with or with out cause. So if you are looking at this company for employment I would really advise against it. The upper managers are just looking for fall guys. By this I mean anyone below the DM can and will loose their job at anytime for any reason. The worst part is corporate DON'T CARE! Be ADVISED you are taking you career into your own hands.

Family Dollar blog

Stop Complaining and lets start doing something about it, check our blog, join us, TOGETHER we're going to be able to make the change.
I used to work for 7 1/2 years for this company, putting up to 92 hrs a week, does any have a contract that tells you how much you going to make and for how many hours?
Been Store Manager does mean to sweep, mop, clean restrooms, unclog toilets, unload trailer, process freight, run registers etc. This is a misclassification to denied the overtime pay, they give you poor payroll budgets for you to stay the hours needed to run the store and finish the DTS. minimum of 60 hrs/wk but in reality you ended up putting closed to 80-92 hrs.
Used to be like this until I got fired for calling their Alert "joke" line and to follow the open door policy they say they have to take care of the problems inside the stores.
I could tell you aboout the lawsuits, the unfair labor practices and about threatening employees, but if you dont care why to let know of everything, just check our blog and if you are interested on what I'm doing join us! it's not only for me, it's an action for everyone that wants JUSTICE!

Family Dollar selling expired merchandise

Never had a problem with family dollar until yesterday [protected] and I was sold expired merchandise that consisted of cough medicine and kraft salad dressing it was on clearance but still should not be selling after experation date. I am sure all the products on the clearance rack had expired dates. Since the manager doesn't seem to care I'm not sure who to report this too. I find selling expired merchandise unaccceptable not sure I would ever buy food products or medicine at this store again. Checking for expired dates is not something the customer should have to do.

you would be suprised at how many grocery stores sell out dates. Most of the time with food and medicine, you buy off the clearance rack, you purchase at your own risk. seals have been broken, it has been left uncooled and returned to the cooler, any number of reasons food goes on clearance. I work in retail with one of the few stores, that we check for outdates and dents. If found we destroy them, we do not mark them down. most of the stores i shop will sell dented cans. did you realize with a dent in the can depending on where it is, most likely the seal has been broken? there is one local grocery store, where i live that was selling in the clearance refridgerated section, pillsbury rolls and pizza crusts that were at least 4 months old. how can something go that long? i understand up to a month maybe. i buy outdated milk, if i am going to be using a large amount to cook with that day or the next. most of the time there is nothing wrong with it. when i was a kid, we could keep can and boxed goods for up to 12-24 months sometime. depending on what it was the the deal that it was. i came from a larger family and you have to spend wisely. so don't be to hastey to critize family dollar for this. after all, you are the one who didn't look for the date when you purchased it. think about that.

Family Dollar refund &policy&

Do not put deposit down with this company! They present themselves as a Dollar Store opening services however they are a middlemen who DO NOT offer merchise nor the tangible advice they claim. Some people may have had good experiences with this company but mines have been the polar opposite. My first dealings with them was through the website www.libertydollarstore.com which you fill out a form which they ask if you need financial assistance and leave comments. After signing up, I was quickly contacted by Dan Kostecky. Explained to him I was a recent graduate and had been working a entry level so and recently moved in with my parents in order to cut costs and prepare to open my own business. He was also told that I would need a loan to which he replied my son Paul handles this after we received your "deposit". After receiving their package in the mail which was overnighted to me I read through and was warry but since they had a A+ rating with the BBB decided against my better judgement to give them a try. After sending in my deposit which was promptly processed everything went downhill. After the deposit is given you have 3 days to cancel however you dont received any other documentation for two weeks in which Paul Kostecky claims he was working on a "business plan". This is clear a stall tactic that they use to keep your deposit. After receiving the "business proposal" which Paul claimed it took two weeks to process I was competely unimpressed. Upon speaking with him I immediately call and was told that 31 years of experience they were told they had some of the best plans in the industry. After attempting the get loans myself it became clear that I was not only swindled out of $2900 being that Dan Kostecky knew originally that with a lack of collateral there wasn't a chance of getting a loan in the amount they want which was $18, 000 more the originally told by the company that I would need. After asking Paul where was the financial assistance in securing a loan which is clearly listed on their website, his only replies were, "lets put our heads together and see what we come up with." Does this sound like a man with 31 years of experience or a conman, I'll let you be the judge. After continued calling I noticed Paul begain avoiding my calls and when I was able to reach him was told that we should communiate via email because he was so busy. After this it bacame clear the deposit is how they make their money and Paul even gave me the number to SeedCapital, a company that charges $5000.00 to attempt to secure a loan. After this I told Paul I was finished with them and wanted a refund and he refused claiming they had satisfied their end. At this point I do not own a dollar store but I have a "word document" they claimed is a proffestionaly typed business plan. If this is a company you feel comfortable doing business with risk your money maybe you will have a better experience than I did but if not I would advise you to stay away and if you want to open a dollar store go with company that does not charge a fee until your store is open or in the process of being open. Companies like libertydollar prey on people trying to better themselves do yourself a favor and dont fall for the sales pitch dont sign any of their documents without first going to an attorney. Funny how the criminals are ripping citizens off and there seem to be little recourse for hard working people.

Family Dollar - stupid return policies

First off, I hate Family Dollar and all of their stores. Their products are temporary fixes to the necessities of most households and their service is disgusting. Recently, I bought two hampers out of desperation from the local Family Dollar store. A day later, my husband found similar products at a different store for a cheaper price. When I tried to...

Family Dollar disrespectful manager

I visited the Family Dollar store located in Cleary Square, Hyde Park on Saturday June 26th at about 12:45 pm where I was going to purchase a sweater box. I took my item to the cashier and she rung up the bill correctly to $3.72. I gave her a $5 note and 75 cents and she gave me back 3 cents and a receipt and then closed the drawer. I pointed out to her that I had given her a $5 note and she rolled her eyes and called the manager (with an attitude). The manager then came and asked what was the problem and she told him that I told her that she had short changed me. The manager then told me that he was going to count out the drawer but if he discovers that she is short then he will not give me my change back. I agreed as I had known what I had given the cashier and that he would see that I was definitely short changed. After patiently waiting for the manager to finish count out the register, he then tells me that the cashier is actually short of $1.44 cents. I looked at him like, what does that mean to me? He says basically he can't give me my money back because the register was short and then he basically stated that I was wrong and I didn't give the cashier as much money as I had stated. At that point I was getting mad as the manager was raising his voice at me and was calling me a liar. He continued saying that if every customer came in with my problem then he would be handing out money all the time. I told him that this wasn't my problem but that he should just acknowledge that his cashier made a mistake especially seeing that she was short in the register anyhow. He was persistant in stating that I was wrong and I was just trying to get free money and then the cashier came in sayin that I only gave her $2 (which shows that she doesn't even know what she's talking about considering she cashed something for $3.72). I was greatly disappointed in this experience this morning as I am a frequent Family Dollar shopper. I feel however that I will never shop there again. I wasn't angry because I was short changed of $2.00 but more because of the attitude of both the manager and the cashier.

Family Dollar discriminatory and verbal harrassement

As a surprise to many of the stores customers, I was an african american male employed at this store. And ofcourse they were rightly surprised. I should have never been hired, because I endured discriminatory labor harrasament, language and slander, from the stores manager and assistant management. The female store manager had very innappropriate verbal fits of rage towards me in front of customers- (marry)as well as continuous threats of writing me up for problems i had while training and learning my job.

The female assistant manager (Monikay) had the same innapropriate fits of verbal anger, and was more sincerely verbal about it. when i called to give reasons for quitting and apologize for resigning, Monikay stated that "she did'nt care, and theycould find 3 or 4 more, just like me any day. I guess that apology was not accepted.

The former female assistant manager, (Shannon), atleast when i was employed, appeared very emotionally unstable for a manger, by stating on regular basis to me how much she hated her job, and the store manager Mary. She miscounted my assigned cash drawer on regular basis while training me. Yet I was threatened to be written up for the short miscounted drawer (twice).

Shanon was my shift manager and in reference to her emotional instability, one day, while seeming even more emotional Shanon bought a pregnancy test from the store and told me that she was going into the employee restroom to see if she was pregnant. I was torn between if it was more than I wanted to know or needed to know about her private affairs while working.

Shanon payed more attention to her boy friend while working (than training me). Her boyfriend, who was not an employee but always present in the store, standing near the register area, would be present in the store just standing there sometimes her whole shift, made it quite uncomfortable for me while they "smooched" the whole shift.

My lack of sincerity for Shanons social life and pregnancy situation, I guess prompted her to, for what ever relevance, slander unjust rumors about my character to some of the stores regular customers making it quite uncomfortable for me to stand and serve them at the register, or even work and be a thorned presence in the store. Therefore I did quit and appease them all, without pressing any discrimination charges, that probably would'nt hold up anyway.

In conclusion, most of the customers were correct in being surprised to see me working with these individuals, and wondering how could I be getting along with them. I was'nt, but i kept a good attitude during my service to customers. And, In this case, Yes, "the customers are always right". Ask them for the proof.

Wow. So much drama at a minimum wage, dead-end job... It does sound like work conditions weren't the greatest, but you failed to provide any evidence of discriminatin. Sounds like its just best to find another job.

Family Dollar rudeness

The past couple of months I have shopped this store; every time I have been in there the manager is there and a taller blondish woman. If you ask the manager a question she rolls her eyes and sighs loudly like I am a idiot! They both talk on the phone to whomever and igbnore customers lined up at register. The blonde lady never smiles and is rude and hateful and I have never gotten a thank you from either one of these people. I will never shop in that store again! I will travel 17 miles to the store in Caldwell, ID. if I need something from your store but I will not go out of my way to shop at any of your stores! THANK YOU!
I also do not appreciate dogs frequenting you store, very unhealthy.

The last couple of visits that i had made to a family dollar located in Richardson, Tx were the rudest moments of my life. I needed help finding an item and I asked one of the managers or assistant managers and she was very rude to me. She made a mean face to me and responded in a very rude manner. She was short and had green eyes and I think her name started with an S. She and another lady where sitting on top of some boxes of paper towels or something like that. They had boxes all over the aisles and they were just sitting there and laughing, they weren't working. To my perspective you dont treat your costumers this way. I think if they need help you as an employee you should help with a nicer atittude. This wasn't the last time i went back to that store. The second time i went back they were there again sitting and laughing and not doing their job. I saw two other ladies working at the front and i asked them for help and they were much nicer than the other young lady with green eyes. I think the store manager of that store should be fair with all her employees and make them all work and not just two and the other young lady not work.

Thank you for your time.
I want to be anonymous.

Family Dollar attempt to steal

On May 15, 2010 approximately 6:50 p.m. my boy friend and i was shopping at this family dollar like we normally do. After grabbing a few things we headed over to the cashier to pay for our merchandise. While getting my money out to pay for my things my money fell on the floor, I didn't notice it at first, but by counting all my money at the register a twenty dollar bill was missing. While counting my money the sercurity guard that was standing in front of the store walked over behind me and turned right around, and i watch him as he was dragging his foot back to where he was standing. By him walking behind me and turning right back around thats what made him look suspect, so I politely ask him did he see or moved the twenty dollars that was on the floor he replied no. So as we was going back in forth with words i walked over to where he was standing in there was my twenty dollars on the floor where he dragged it back to. My boyfriend picked up the money then we ask if we could speak with the manager and they say we had to come back in the mourning. We went back the next mourning, spoke with the manager and he apologize for what happen. Now i don't feel safe shopping at this family dollar because the man that tried to steal my money is a security and still employed here.

In Family Dollar Stores that have security, the Security Officer(s) are not employed by FDS, they are by Contract from a Security Firm, all the store can do is put in a complaint to the Firm.

Family Dollar over staked and falling on customer

Ruld cashier, uneducated, loud, and should not be dealing with the public, I will never go to that family dollar again. Located at lockwood and kelly, times are bad as it is and to go into the store and spend hard earned money and the cashier acts a fool it is a shame before god. Then have the nerve to say it seems like the tote falling is a personal problem. If they had been put up correctly it would not of happen. Family dolllar needs to have a check your attitude provention period for cashiers.

Talk about uneducated, learn to spell? Yeas, something falling on you is bad, except that the totes are stored at ground level in "most" Family Dollars, unless your Thumbelina. Ever work in retail? You would be rude too if you had to deal with the level of ignorance and disrespect that "most" customers afford to the cashier(s) and other store employees.
