Everything But The House Mixed Experiences with Everything But The House

As a potential customer interested in unique finds and estate sales, I must share that Everything But The House (EBTH) has garnered mixed reviews from customers. While some have praised the handling of items and customer service, others have expressed dissatisfaction with communication, shipping costs, and the quality of items received. It seems that there have been instances of broken or misrepresented items, leading to frustration among buyers. If you decide to engage with EBTH, it may be wise to proceed with caution and manage your expectations accordingly.

Everything But The House I really do love this site and the service

I'v read some pretty negative reviews about this company and its service. My experience has been fantastic. I find interesting things... and while yes the shipping costs can be more than you would get on Amazon, things are extremely well packaged. This site has allowed me access to some valued antique treasures that I would not be able to obtain elsewhere. Additionally, every time I have contacted EBTH asking a question for for assistance-- I have received exemplary customer service. I have bought jewelry, art, porcelain, silver, books. A whole variety of things. And again-- I have NEVER had a problem. I've been a regular user of this site for over a year-- obtaining things on an almost weekly basis. I obtained a set of Russian Imperial Everyday porcelain dishes from the Tsar's palace dating from the reign of Paul I, and I have obtained a Wedgwood basalt cup and saucer dating from 1780-- one of the earliest in existence. There is no way that I could ever experience these things without EBTH. So as an estate sale purchaser, I love this site and its service. I just wanted to put a good review out there because this group deserves to hear good things and not just bad things about what they are doing.

Everything But The House It lives up to the name

Purchased 45 items with the cost of shipping exceeding $500.00. In spite of the fact that it has been well documented that FedEx is short staffed, EBTH continues to honor their contract with FedEx. All 45 packages were DELAYED. I ordered a belt buckle on January 3rd. The cost of shipping was over $30.00 to ship out a belt buckle. It's been sitting on FedEx shelve since January 15th. Rather than call FedEx customer service overseas, I gave EBTH a wake up call - AGAIN.

Heaven forbid that you're not home when FedEx attempts to deliver a parcel that requires a signature. It took EBTH to file a Claim to get my parcel delivered.

If you look up EBTH Better business bureau, they keep getting Dinged on the cost of shipping. That doesn't seem to phase this Corporation.

Winning an auction from EBTH is pretty anti climatic. It takes an average of two weeks for your jewelry to be delivered in a gift box valued at a penny. Whether you won an auction for a $17,000 Diamond ring or a $1.00 sterling silver ring, it's all the same to EBTH. Both items are going to be shipped in either a small bubble wrap envelop or a small box in a No Frills small paper gift box that You can buy at the Dollar store for a nickel.

Other than that, all of their items that I have received are Everything uncommon and are as described.

Everything But The House Its like going to a rolling estate/garage sale - never know what you might find

This is an auction site. The site is one of the most well designed of the online auction sites I have used. The auction is on a timed schedule, with extended bidding for 5 min if a bid is received just before the stated end time. The quality of the photography is uniformly excellent, if not outstanding. Identification and description of the items is generally extremely good, given the range of objects that appear. Many of the items are what you might find at a house or estate sale. I visit the site because I'm an antique collector. This site is a lot of fun, and brings back the experience the days when I used to haunt estate and garage sales. The condition of the items is generally accurate, and I have used the site for over 2 years I recently did have an issue with an expensive vase I bought that was heavily bid on. This was because of an omission in the description, and this was quickly resolved to my satisfaction, noting that most auction houses have firm disclaimers with no recourse. The person I spoke to and subsequent email correspondence was clear and excellent.

For first time users, note that most auction houses charge the buyer a premium, usually 25%. EBTH does not charge a buyers premium, which is a big deal.

Shipping. With most auction houses, you have to arrange for shipping yourself, and you are in a hostage situation, so shipping costs can be high, for even the smallest items its hard to get away with less than a $50 pickup, packing and shipping charge. For large items, the cost is prohibitive. On EBTH, your shipping charge is calculated so you know beforehand what your total cost will be. They use a variety of carriers, so there is a variation in cost especially for bigger items, but generally for small items I've found their charges to be below what I've experienced.

Everything But The House Thrilled With How Much Money We Made On Our Sale!

Lost my Mom two years ago. My step father was in assisted living and needed our help with selling their home. He was relying on my sister and I to figure out what to do with 40+ years of "stuff". Our task was to empty their house and get it on the market (and my sister and I both live out of state). We were stressed. Assisted living is EXPENSIVE and he needed every dime he could get. My Mom and step dad had some great stuff, but we didn't know what to do with it. We called a couple of estate sale companies and auction houses but neither was the TOTAL solution (one never called me back and the other wanted to sell the 2 most valuable pieces and leave the rest for us to deal with.)
Finally, I heard about EBTH on NPR. I called and scheduled a consultation (which was free). The sales rep came out, took a look around and asked what we were keeping versus selling. She explained the commission structure and how the process worked. It was scary to take the leap of faith, but they (EBTH) were willing to help us find a solution for the ENTIRE contents of the home. We showed them where the key was and went home. They handled the rest. They sorted out what was best for the sale, took all of the photos, did all of the research and writing of descriptions and sold the items on thier website in an auction! Sure it was scary to sell things at auction, but thrilling at the same time! They even sold my mothers car which sold for $900 above Kelly Blue Book! The rest of the items that sold grossed 3 times more than my sister and I had guesstimated/hoped for. We were shocked! Ecstatic! Then after the sale, EBTH collected payment from the winning bidders, and hosted a local pick up for items that people wanted to pick up locally (for free) then they shipped out what needed to be shipped. We didnt have to lift a finger and we were so relieved that we had been good stewards for our step dad! That was the very best part!
Since our step dads sale, my sister and I both have done our share of shopping on EBTH. I have to say Ive never had an issue with broken items, or shipping estimates they've always been spot on. They pack items really well (lots of peanuts and puffy stuff to cushion contents).
Anyhow we all bark loud when things go wrong so I thought Id share my AWESOME experience with EBTH! I will use them again for sure (actually I already have been using their mail in consignment program and made some extra cash!) Woot! Woot!

Only good experiences this fat. Even had v a package not show up that due to my busy life went unnoticed for dinnertime. Reached out and got refunded no issues. Most people writing reviews on here just seem bitter.

I won a lovely 14K gold Pearl *** It was an amazing price! Well, that is if I ever receive it.. I paid $11 for shipping & $3 for an expedited fee only to find out its being shipped via SMARTPOST..Its been 11 days now of being in transit, and 2 days of that transit time is only 15 minutes away from my home.I thought I found my new marketplace but the shipping is HORRIBLE, untrustworthy and slow. Despite me paying the equivalent price of priority mail. Im amazed this company charged me so much to ship out 0.3Lbs, only to use smartpost. EBTH offered a $3 refund for my expedited processing fee.

Everything But The House I've been a customer for several years and overall it has been a great experience

I've been a customer for several years and overall it has been a great experience. The one purchase that wasn't exactly like I thought it should be was my fault because I didn't pay attention to the full description. The piece of advice I would give is watch the number of people bidding on it and if you think it's a great deal that nobody else has noticed that's probably not the case.

Everything But The House Awful shipping after charging so much in fees

Awful shipping after charging so much in fees. I purchased two pendants: one on May 26 and another on May 27. Today is June 9 and I still have not received the items. I purchased two other handbags...both of which have been delivered (they could've stuffed the pendants in the handbags and I would have them in my possession). The only item that I am satisfied with is the Cartier purse. Other than that, I will not be bidding in the future. Truly disappointed.

Everything But The House While I love EBTH I hate that they don't allow the "winner" to choose a shipping method

While I love EBTH I hate that they don't allow the "winner" to choose a shipping method. As I write I am waiting for an item that started its journey by *** and then passes off to ***. This would be fine if there was a tracking number change given but it just disappears for days. HEY, EBTH, LISTEN UP, mail and package theft is a giant problem and it would be super easy to make shipping choice available to your consumer so we can have some vigilance over our hard-won prizes. PLEASE STOP SHIPPING WITH SMART-POST!

Everything But The House I bought a piece of work by a known artist and when it arrived I contacted the artist to verify that it was his work

I bought a piece of work by a known artist and when it arrived I contacted the artist to verify that it was his work. It was not. EBTH told me that myself and the artist are incorrect and that the consignor was the correct one. Days of emailing and it is revealed that EBTH sold a work of art by someone who shares a name with the KNOWN artist. Very misleading. To their credit they refunded me, or said they would. Took me writing them to remind them that they owe me money for the returned piece. Now after waiting 13 days for another piece of work I get a letter saying it is cancelled, which is bad news because I already have a client lined up for this piece. I contact them again and was told they lost the piece and the warehouse told them to cancel (guess the fact that I payed for it doesn't afford me the right to be in the loop about such matters) but found it again and will send it. It is now day 15 and I have not heard back from the person I was communicating with. I get an email this morning from EBTH saying the item has shipped, but according to *** it has not. Everything expediated? LOL EVERYBODY PASSES THE BUCK AT EBTH I now completely understand the unbelievably poor score that EBTH gets when it comes to customer service and misleading business practices.

I bought a really nice crystal that was chipped. WHY someone would buy damage crystal for the price I paid? Terrible experience. I would expect this site to show very clear any defect or problems with the merchandise. Not waisting more money or time with them.

I purchased a set of Klipsch Forte speakers 7 or 8 months ago and was happy with the auction and the $141.00 shipping fee. These are large and weigh around 40lbs each. I saw another set of speakers that were similar 4 months ago and now shipping is $500.00. I then saw another set that was smaller last month and shipping is $686.00. The second set was up for sale again last week with the exact same pictures from 4 months ago. Seems very strange. How do you sell the same thing twice? How do you charge an amount you can ship a car for to ship a speaker? I also noticed they removed an easy way to e mail them after my last question to them about shipping and the duplicate item listing. I also saw 2 clarinets for sale. One was $20 to ship, the other almost $40. Same size, same item. What gives? I don't know what's going on but I for one am done with this company. I feel for the folks trying to sell with them. I'm sure the local CL crowd is very happy however.

Ive tried FOUR times to write them with the same question: Hi. Ive made my first purchase and being new to this am curious how long a seller can take before shipping out an item? Nothing. Im provided with a list of possibly helpful articles and am never written back. Btw, item still hasnt shipped after a week. Afraid to buy again. Most likely wont just knowing they dont respond.

I have purchases many items from this site., I have very little faith in the *** (customer service) part of this business. They insist on shipping certain items for signature via ***, which does not work well. In our situation, *** delivery is not located in our city. Avoid EBTH. I purchased what was represented to be a *** () bracelet. *** customer service advised me, in writing, that *** of its pieces have a *** marking or signature on the piece itself. My bracelet has no such marking but only a hanging tag which says . I supplied the *** writing to a customer service manager, who told me to take the bracelet to a *** store and get in writing that its not authentic. I said that no *** store would do that and she said you can try, as if its my responsibility to disprove authenticity and opposed to EBTHs responsibility to prove authenticity. All of this after another, below manager rep told me to return the bracelet to have it evaluated by a third party expert.

Ive dealt with this company for years, but no longer. They dont service customers, they just look at everything as an unbreakable contract. I understand business, but customers are people and deserve to be treated as such.Youre far better dealing with local vendors than this company. They just could care less about their customers and make most of their money from shipping contracts.

Everything But The House I have had only positive experiences as a buyer

I have had only positive experiences as a buyer. Full disclosure, I have only purchased paintings ranging from $65 to $350 and at times, the shipping of my purchase was shower than anticipated but charges were as quoted and everything was well packaged and arrived undamaged. I always look at the estimated shipping cost and have decided not to bid based on the estimate, which usually was based on the dimensions of the painting. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews. As of today, I am following and bidding on two additional paintings.

Everything But The House EBTH Review: A Nightmare Experience Selling My Mom's Estate

I gotta tell ya, I used EBTH to sell off my mom's stuff after she passed away and it was a total disaster. I mean, I was already going through a tough time emotionally and this just made it so much worse. The EBTH salesman promised me the moon and stars, saying they'd get top dollar for everything in the house. But when it came time to sign the contract, they low-balled me big time. They said my mom's dining room table, which had been appraised at 10-18K, wasn't worth much at all. What a load of crap!

And get this - they charged me a whopping 48% commission based on their own low-ball estimates. That's highway robbery, man. I decided not to include some items because I didn't want to practically give them away, but then the salesperson called me up and tried to pressure me into including them. Like, seriously? I was already feeling terrible about using EBTH and this just made it worse.

But the real nightmare came on pickup day. It was like a circus, with people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The two guys who were supposed to be in charge of the pickup process were completely useless. They scratched up the floors and walls, and one of them even cut the water line to the fridge, flooding the entire kitchen and basement. And get this - the people who removed the washer and dryer also removed the condensation line from the A/C unit, causing water to flow through the light fixtures and ceiling fans on the first floor. It was a total disaster.

And then, when I finally got paid, the check was made out wrong. Like, seriously? They couldn't even get that right? I'm still waiting on a replacement check.

Look, I'm telling you this so you don't make the same mistake I did. Don't use EBTH. It's a total ripoff and they don't care about you or your stuff. It was like letting vultures pick the bones of my mom's life. I regret it every day.

Everything But The House My Nightmare Experience with Everything But The House (EBTH): Lost Items, Terrible Customer Service, and Sketchy Practices

I gotta say, I was really impressed with Everything But The House (EBTH) when I first stumbled upon their website. The layout was clean and easy to navigate, and the items they had up for auction were just so darn cool! I mean, I could spend hours scrolling through all the vintage furniture, unique art pieces, and quirky collectibles. But let me tell you, my experience with actually bidding on and receiving items from EBTH was a total nightmare.

First off, I had a third of my items never arrive! And it wasn't like they were just a little late or something - I'm talking waiting months and months before I finally had to file a complaint. And even then, it was up to me to identify that the item hadn't arrived and take action. It was a huge hassle, and it happened to me multiple times. I mean, I get that things can get lost in the mail, but this was just ridiculous.

And don't even get me started on their customer service. One time, I called to check on a pair of vintage shoes I had ordered that hadn't arrived, and the person on the other end basically told me they weren't even going to bother looking for them. They just offered me a refund and acted like it was no big deal. But I didn't want a refund - I needed those shoes for a theater project! It was so frustrating.

To make matters worse, EBTH is often careless or untruthful in their item descriptions. I once bid way more than I normally would have on a lamp because the description made it sound like it was made from high-quality, natural materials. But when I went to pick it up, it was clear that it was just a cheap, mass-produced piece. I was so angry! And when I tried to contact their office about it, I never got a response. It was a total waste of money.

And let's not forget about the shipping prices. Even for lightweight, small items, the shipping costs were often through the roof. The only exception was an auctioneer in Blue Ash, Ohio, who had reasonable prices - but they lost items so often that I started to wonder if they were just keeping them and reselling them locally. It was all so sketchy.

Overall, I can't say I would recommend EBTH to anyone. It's like online gambling - you might win big, but there's a high probability you'll lose. And with their terrible practices and lackluster customer service, it's just not worth the risk. Goodbye, EBTH - I won't be back.

Everything But The House Organizational Issues and Unreliable Service: My Experience with Everything But The House (EBTH)

I gotta say, I'm not too thrilled with Everything But The House (EBTH). I run a company that sells estate items, and I've been using EBTH in Maryland for over a year now. At first, things were great - they were able to sell items for way more than any other auction house I've used. But lately, it's been a real struggle. EBTH has some serious organizational issues that they just can't seem to fix. They keep losing track of my items, and I've had to spend countless hours trying to find them on their website. They even paid other sellers for items that belonged to me, and vice versa. It's a real mess.

To make matters worse, I've received checks with the wrong name or made out to the wrong entity. And don't even get me started on the fact that they take items from all over the country and ship them to their HQ in Ohio. That just makes it even harder for them to keep track of everything.

I've tried reaching out to them about some paintings that they've had for months, but I haven't gotten a response. It's frustrating, to say the least. And while I've tried to be patient, I just can't take it anymore. I need a company that I can rely on, and EBTH just isn't cutting it.

I think they could start by providing sellers with a receipt of what they take in. It seems like they have the technology to do it, but they just won't. It's a shame, because I really wanted to like EBTH. But until they can prove that they've fixed their problems, I won't be using them again. There are plenty of other auction houses in the area that may not get me the same prices, but at least they won't give me a headache.

Everything But The House EBTH.com Review: Dysfunctional Bid-to-Fulfillment Process and Slow Delivery Times

I gotta say, I've had a couple of experiences with Everything But The House (ebth.com) and it's just not doing it for me. The whole Bid Won to fulfillment process is a real pain in the you-know-what and it takes way too long to get your stuff. I mean, I had to make a bunch of phone calls just to figure out where my items were and if my $1000 had disappeared into the ether. I won a bid back in June and couldn't pick up the item on the designated day, so I opted to have it shipped from Dallas to Houston. I got a couple of emails saying a "white glove" shipper was going to bring it to me, but there was no tracking number or anything. Then I got an email saying my items were packed and ready to go, but my husband was getting antsy and just wanted to know when he could get his hands on them. When I called EBTH, the customer rep was nice enough but had no idea where my stuff was or when it would arrive. She said they were processing a lot of invoices and it usually takes 6-8 weeks for delivery. I mean, come on! They could have walked it over to me faster than that. When I asked about their invoice backlog, she wouldn't give me a straight answer. She did give me the name of the shipper and a tracking number, but it was up to me to figure out where they were and when they were coming. I finally got in touch with someone who said they'd be picking it up next week. A MONTH after I won the bid and someone else picked it up from the auction site. I called the pickup company and they said my stuff had been sitting there for 18 days waiting for a shipping company to come get it. I mean, seriously? If my husband wanted to drive up to Dallas to get it himself, they said that was fine, but they still charged us for shipping. And now we're waiting to get our shipping charges refunded, but who knows how long that will take.

Honestly, I don't know what's going on with these guys. Either they're intentionally holding onto our money to benefit themselves, or they just have really bad business processes. They don't even have any inventory of their own, they're just a service company. But their service is seriously dysfunctional. It's not the fault of the people on the front lines, it's a problem with the higher-ups. They need to improve their business processes, technology systems, and human resources if they want to keep buyers and sellers happy. As it is, their business model just isn't sustainable.

So, buyer beware.

Everything But The House Unethical and Exploitative: My Terrible Experience with Everything But the House (EBTH)

Everything But the House (EBTH) is a company that I recently had the displeasure of dealing with. Let me tell you, they are the most unethical and exploitative American company I have ever come across. I had a terrible experience with them and I want to share it with you so that you can avoid the same mistakes that I made.

I placed a bid on an item via my mobile phone and it was the winning bid for an item located in a warehouse about two hours from my home that I intended to pick-up. However, when I received the invoice after the auction, it had the item cost and tax but N/A for shipping. There was no reason to believe I could not pick up the item as I had arranged previously. Three days later, I received a UPS notification in my email that the item I just won was being shipped to me. My credit card had also been charged for shipping (at 5 times the cost of the goods) despite the fact I had never received notice of the charge.

I contacted EBTH, thinking it was a simple error to be fixed. However, they were extremely unhelpful. It turns out that there are important differences between their PC site and their mobile site. The PC version does not allow a bid to be placed without nominating a delivery method (pickup or delivery). That does not happen when you use your mobile. You may bid and think the item can be picked-up and then unexpectedly incur shipping fees at 5 or 10 times the price you paid for the goods.

The fact the mobile version does not require selection of a shipping method is distinctly different to the desktop version. Mobile devices have no pop-up, no message saying this item is not available for pick-up. In fact, EBTH actually acknowledged that they were aware of this and were working on it. However, they continued to insist that they had no responsibility for this issue. Apparently, it was somewhere in the fine print. Hardly a responsible ethical strategy for a mobile platform, especially when the PC site goes to such lengths to make pick-up/shipping arrangements clear.

The options presented by EBTH, in lieu of them being responsible and assisting the customer, were to either forfeit the item (in which case I would not pay shipping but would not be refunded the purchase price) or pay the shipping. EBTH loves it when a customer forfeits, not only do they keep the purchase money, but they can re-sell it and get even more money. Should the next person use the mobile site and forfeit, the profit just keeps growing.

So why not just use the shipping service, USPS and UPS are pretty reasonably priced, right? Instead, think what UPS would charge and then double or triple it. I have had furniture delivered from Canada for the same price that EBTH would charge for delivery from one city in Ohio to another. Eventually, after repeated futile arguments and being continually frustrated by nonsensical arguments, I told the EBTH rep that she was an idiot. Well, they hire such precious snowflakes down in EBTH that that was sufficient to result in my account being cancelled.

In closing, EBTH always wins at the customers expense. If you're selling an item, they will take a whopping 40% commission on the sale. They add a large margin to all shipping. Items are not shipped at cost even though they just made 40% on the item. If you unknowingly purchase an item that carries huge shipping charges and forfeit the item, EBTH will take your money, and then resell the item and keep that money as well. They provide very small windows of time for items that can be picked up, like three hours on one particular day. That not only makes life easier (and cheaper for EBTH) and more difficult for the customer, but increases the chance that the customer will forfeit the item.

On the bright side, if you live next to an EBTH warehouse where something you like is held, you can pick up some okay deals, but anything that cannot be picked-up or posted interstate in an envelope? Forget about it.

Everything But The House My Disappointing Experience with EBTH: Outrageous Shipping Costs, Inconsistent Item Evaluation, and Lost Items

I gotta say, EBTH ain't my cup of tea. My first time buying from them was alright, I picked up my purchase locally and everything went smoothly. But dang, their shipping costs are just outrageous. After that, I decided to sell some of my parents' stuff with them. It was a tough time for me and my brother, but we thought it would be a good idea to use EBTH. I filled up the dining room with all sorts of items, some of them were even the same as in other cities. But when the sales person came to look at everything, a lot of what I set aside didn't make the cut. When I asked why, she said "it just depends on the city you're in". I mean, come on, if they sell nationally, why is that even an issue? It just seems like there's no company-wide standards when it comes to evaluating items. The sales person also told me that if I didn't have $15,000 worth of items, I could be combined with another sale. Alright, I get it, that's fine. They set a date for the inventory people to come pack everything up, but on that day, only one person showed up with a few boxes and some packing paper. I still had a whole room full of stuff, but we had to pack everything up because we were trying to meet a sale deadline. I ended up helping the poor pregnant girl all day until after 8:00 p.m. and we still didn't get everything packed. They use barcodes to label your stuff, but because the sales person underreported the number of items, she didn't have enough. So we ended up writing on the packing paper and boxes with markers. All of this should have been a red flag for me to back out, but I didn't. They took pictures of the packed items with their phone, so that and the handwritten labeling was all that identified 75% of my stuff. I didn't keep my own personal inventory, which was a mistake because a good number of items ended up being "misplaced in the warehouse". They gave me a list, but if you don't have your own to compare it to, then it's only what you can remember. After I received the inventory list and right up through the sale, I was questioning where some of my items were. They finally admitted that my inventory had been "split at the warehouse" and would now be combined with another separate sale. I couldn't back out at that point because they already had my stuff and could do with it what they wanted. When the sale finally went live, I saw photos of my stuff and realized that two pewter tea services, one Gorham and one Kirk-Stiff, were split up and combined with other items that had no relation. The two sugar bowls were offered without their lids and the lids were lumped in with some other silver-plated items. When I questioned my EBTH rep, I was told that the "warehouse makes a call based on professional/past experience as to how items should be marketed in order to bring the best bids." Really? Sugar bowls with no lids and lids that have no bottom? I could give multiple examples of dividing/combining items that made absolutely no sense. When I saw the photos, I realized the Waterford crystal stemware was nowhere to be found; 48 pieces of Lismore. Another email to my rep, who admitted they "couldn't find the lot in question, but it would turn up." Two weeks later when they did find it, they placed 46 pieces for sale in one lot. What happened to the other 2? Broken and EBTH is not responsible and doesn't pay you for it. Says so in their contract. But let's continue with my experience. Who needs 46 pieces of Waterford? Let me tell you, no one. All the other Waterford I see for sale is offered in lots of 4, 6, or 8, which is what you would expect. But because they wanted to be done with me and my questions and complaints, all 48 pieces sold for $560. So someone got vintage, always hand washed, in perfect condition Lismore for $12 bucks a stem. Awesome right? Well, certainly for the buyer but not for me. Based on other listings, it should have brought more than twice that amount. I also realized two prints were never offered for sale. Another email to my rep who said they were "misplaced but would be found." After 4 months of me following up with them, she finally admitted that the prints had "mistakenly been donated" but EBTH would compensate me for them. Then after 2 more follow-ups and another six weeks, I received a check for $66 dollars. So now all I can do is help you learn from my mistakes. If you have lots of expensive stuff or are Susan Lucci, then you will probably have a better experience if you stay on top of everything. But if you are an average person with a lot of nice, but not super valuable things, you are better off not to get involved with EBTH and sell in a local estate sale. My EBTH experience took 7 months to bring to a close. Honestly, I might buy something locally that I could pick up, but I would never sell with them again.

Everything But The House Be extremely cautious!

Complaint Type: Advertising Issues
Problem:
We have both billing and advertising issues with this company. We have several complaints with screenshots on a pdf, describing the nature of our concerns. And billing charges that we were not aware of. We were billed $50 total for transfers fees because it was not picked on the pickup date. On the invoice page, upon making payment the terms need to be clearly spelled out, if a pickup address is an individuals estate or a warehouse. The warehouse pickup is FREE if an item is not picked up on that date, in fact you have up to two weeks to pick up the item. However, Im learning now that an individual estate sale address pickup must be picked up on that exact daye and during that time or you are billed a transfer fee to be charged to your credit card to the local warehouse. Or, you could be billed shipping charge withuut knowing, and it will be 3x the price you expected. In my case, the transfer fees were higher than my items I had won. Had I known there would be a transfer fee, I would have forfeited the items and paid out of pocket for missing the scheduled pickup day. Again, the address is only mentioned on the date and pickup, no mention if it is an indiviuals home estate. There is no mention of a transfer fee nor that the item will be automatically shipped if not picked up on that exact date and time from an individuals estate. I have provided screenshots of my bidding thru the invoice page and other complaints related to the website. How would I know that ---- William Howard Taft Cincinnati, OH is an estate location and not a warehouse location unless it is spelled out on the website bid page. Unless I know the warehouse addresses by foreknowledge located throughout the city, how could I even know this was an individuals home estate auction? The EBTH blue ash and Wilmer locations, I am told by EBTH, hold items for up two two weeks with no fees. Apparently, you must go to the shipping option tab on the bid page to read these rules and I visited there today but could not find these fees mentioned. If they were spelled out there... If I am selecting a pickup option initially why would I click a link to view shipping options? Upon opening the shipping option tab there is mention of shipping fees and warehouse fees for certain large items but no mention of items being sold at an individuals estate being additionally charge transfer fees to a local warehouse or automatic shipping fees to your home. In my case, I bid on several items to be picked up in Cincinnati. The address and date for pickup were stated. I assumed I had 7-10 days to pick them up at the location as that is what I have done before at the Blue Ash location. The Blue ash distribution center hold items up to two weeks for pickup, in my case I had an item almost three weeks that I recently picked up last week. Surprise, surprise! One of my items had been transferred to a warehouse even farther away than the pickup location, so I have to pay $10 extra for a $16 picture o that I bid on and 1.5 hours of round trip travel or forfeit the item with no refund. A $26 loss and nothing to show for it. This website needs adressed in many ways. A company that states 63 million in revenue in 2016... how much of that is fees that customers were not aware of, like me? I presume many customers throughout the united states are paying transfer fees that were not stated and shipping fees they did not expect. We were not contacted by anyone from ebth.com regarding a missed pickup or fees or costs of an item being shipped. The charges were just billed. We only came to know about these fees when we contacted ebth.com repto inquire about missed pickup. I was told the fees were automatic if an item was not picked up at an estate sale address during the small window of time on that specific day. Since I did not go to pick them up, they were either shipped to me or would be transferred to a local warehouse. Another issue we had was with chair we bid $7 and won for on the auction ending site. When we went to the ending bid section there was no location filter.in the ending bid section We did not realize the chair was in west Virginia, we realized thereafter, so we contacted ebth.com and they told us we could forfeit the item by paying $7 (the winning bid amount). Within 3 days we were billed $175.00 to our credit card for shipping fees and we were not even contacted on the phone and told about it. We were horrified to see that our account was debited $175.00. During this time, we had bid on (3) other items that were ending without seconds and they were in California and elsewhere so we paid the $6 bid amount for those 3 items we won and forfeited pickup because they were too far away and too costly to ship to Ohio. ( I do not have invoices for these items because they were deleted by EBTH after my conversation with them on the phone.) As a business that has a revenue 0f 63 million in 2016I would venture to say, there are more people than I who have suffered the same loss just as I have. There are reviews online, that I have located with similar complaints. As a consumer I expect to know these fees and the terms to be CLEAR. I have incurred now additional fees of $40 +$10 for unknown transfer fees + $6 +$7 for bidding on items that were in the ending page with no location filter. On a certain occasion when I went to pickup a certain item I had won, EBTH told me it was at another warehouse. It was quite a distance from my home but upon inquiring yesterday about the item, I was told it was lost in the warehouse either Wilmer Avenue or Blue ash and was refunded the $7.00 for the item. Concerning the above, I would like the fees that I have been exorbitantly charged to be refunded or waived. ***The $175.00 shipping fee for the $7.00 chair is in process of being refunded to my credit card, only because it had not shipped from WV at the time of my call to EBTH. If I had not called to inquire, it would have been shipped and the $175 fee sealed, again no mention of this under the invoice terms. At present, an EBTH representative is inquiring if she can reduce the $40 fee for the $12 items I won, that were transferred. She said they may be able to reduce them, but not remove them entirely. Again, no mention of these fees anywhere on my invoice at checkout, or on bid page when selecting Free pickup option EVER. We won the bid below for a rocking chair that was in WV, but showed cleared on their website it would be available for pickup in Blue Ash, OH. The EBTH rep just informed me that they made a mistake and it would not be shipped to Ohio now and they would refund the bid amount back to our card. They expect us to abide by their policies but when we go to claim the bid item that we have won,(below) they are not accountable for their mistakes. So the picture was lost at the warehouse that I mentioned earlier, and the rocking chair pickup location was their mistake so they are deleting that bid and refunding our $2. They will not spare us their error. Any good company would say, we will ship it to them at our cost. It was basically false advertising.

Everything But The House I recently (within the past 5 months) started sending 30 years collection of my antiques and other items to this

I recently (within the past 5 months) started sending 30 years collection of my antiques and other items to this Auction House. I was advised to use and do the shipping through their shipping company (Free of charge because of the Covid-19 Situation and many items) to this Auction House / Estate Sale. The Beginning of the transaction was good and smooth since I had all my items and their description of my items sent to them through emails(I had already done my research on my items). Then things turned south when I started questioning their research methods and nonsense descriptions for some of my items. Their research and methods were wrong and false and in turn my items were described absolutely wrong. I had No intention to misrepresent any of my items. Their staff lost my items and still no refunds on 3 of my items or explanation of my lost items. Their staff misplaced my items with someone else's items. I almost lost several more items, had I not been watching the sales and trying to locate my missing items. My items were not listed under my name, but must have been listed under other seller’s name / profile. When I pointed that out to them, they quickly came up with some bogus excuse for the mishap. They broke several of my items into pieces with no refund of any type or kind and blamed that on their shipping company UPS (Now they are using FEDEX because of so many problems or perhaps better deals and more money for them) and also blame that on you for not getting insurance on you items. They never once mentioned I should get my own insurance when I start working with them and using their shipping company to send my items. Currently they are holing my last shipment as a hostage so they can bulling me to give up on my other Lost/Missing and broken Items. Also, They are also not sending me back several items that was omitted in their auction. I have been trying to get a resolution and get them to sell my last shipment sold in a honest business way and refund or find my lost items. THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT THEIR CLIENTS ***. "" IN MY LINE OF BUSINESS, LAST TIME I CHECKED, CLIENTS ALWAYS RIGHT "" Why would BBB let any Auction Company Act this way. They are hurting a lot of clients and customers and they are using their Loophole to getaway with it. The FBI and Police Department should get involved. This is a crime and people involved should put behind the wall!

I was sold a 14 karat gold bead necklace that does not have 14 karat gold beads. Only the chain is 14 karat but it was sold as both parts being 14kt. The material of the beads is overtly wrong, lacking appropriate weight or feel of even metal. They refused to except a return or provide a refund at my complaint and instead told me to jump through a bunch of hoops even though it is their responsibility to sell goods as described. I even offered to pay for return shipping if their jewelers would recheck the metal and they disagreed after a second review. When I asked for their attorney of record and a returns address, they would not provide any information for either request and was sent an email from someone unregistered to practice law who implied they were an attorney in the email by stating they were the person legal complaints went to and attempting to use legalese. I had to look the person up in an attorney directory to see if he was or was not licensed to practice.

They sold my items and did not account for them sending me less than half of what they brought at auction. They sold me two pieces of jewelry as 14k and they tested as 10k. Despite proof of testing they did not respond.

The seller misrepresented the painting listing***, including the color and brush stroke. I purchased this painting on the assumption of the photographs (please see invoice). The frame color was misrepresented as a softer, more rose gold. The painting that I received is a much more yellow, brighter, almost painted color. The painting brush strokes are also misrepresented. As you can see in the clouds, the paint strokes in the photo on the website are diffuse and well-blended. The painting that I received has distinct, unblended brush strokes. I received this painting today and immediately called in about the issue. I asked to return the item and I provided photos. They denied the claim with the attached reply. I would like a refund.

Everything But The House Unprofessional customer service

I lodged a complaint about their app, a serious concern that was causing myself and others injury. Rather than addressing it with customers openly, they told me I was banned for commenting. I’ve asked for the information to their legal team repeatedly (the method for dispute resolution in their terms of service), to no avail. By blocking my access, they’re limiting my information about purchases, preventing me from continuing with a legitimate dispute, and stopped me from competing on items I’m currently bidding on. All things that violate my consumer protections, both by state law and federal standards. The stated reason was they did not like my comment and wanted to stop me from commenting further. That’s it. That’s the entire reason. In addition, they’re withholding items I’ve already purchased and paid for shipping, telling me to come and get them if I want them. I’m in Texas, they’re in Ohio. Again, shipping was paid for previously.

Desired outcome: Apology. Reinstate my account. The dismissal of the employee would be appropriate, but a rebuking seems necessary at least.

Everything But The House Everything But The House (EBTH.com) Review: Poor Customer Service and Blocked on Social Media

I recently had an experience with Everything But The House (ebth.com) as a buyer and seller. I decided to sell some of my watches and contacted them through the 'email a sales consultant' option. However, I had to wait for a long time to hear back from them. I was out of town and realized that I didn't have my one card I pay everything online with, so I explained the situation to them. To my surprise, they were very accommodating and paid the next day.

However, when I called back after waiting for about 10 days, I was disappointed to find out that there was still no response from the sales consultant. The customer service representative said she would 'reach out to them', which seemed like a way to pacify me. Another week went by, and I sent another email to the consultant, but still no response. I was getting frustrated as I was looking to sell my watches, but there was no progress.

After waiting for another 10 plus days, I called again and asked what was going on. I wanted to know if they wanted to represent me or not. The consultant said she would 'reach out to the consultant', which made me even more angry. I waited for another two weeks, and by this time, about 7-8 weeks had gone by. I decided to take matters into my own hands and started posting on Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, and any other platform I could think of.

To my surprise, within an hour, I got responses from people left and right. I even found the CEO and CIO of the company and posted to their Twitter account and anyone that printed an article on this fast-growing business. It was a Saturday, and come Monday, I received two calls from numbers I didn't recognize, but no message was left. Then on Tuesday, I got a call from the 'smug sales consultant' who knew nothing about my situation.

I proceeded to tell her what had happened, but she cut me off twice by saying, "Can we just start over?" I had nothing to do with this. I said, "Your company does... you represent the company." She asked if I still wanted to sell with them, but I politely declined. I told her that if she wouldn't apologize on behalf of her company, we couldn't go any further. She said, "Okay then, good day," and hung up.

I was so angry that my blood pressure was over the top. I emailed the "get to the bottom of this" on Twitter, but when I went to check back to see if there was a response and to tell her what happened, I found out that I was blocked. Her last message to me was, "This has gone to a supervisor." After that, I was blocked.

To make matters worse, last year in July of 2016, I had to file a BBB complaint because it took 6 weeks to get one of my items I won. They still hadn't sent it out, and when they finally did, they didn't next-day it out.

Now, EBTH has received an additional 41 million in funding, and they are trying to go public. I will do my best to stop them. Once I find out their funding sources, I will expose them. Is it illegal just to tell me that we are no longer doing business and block me? That's a question for a lawyer, and that's actually my next step. At least that may stop further funding if it's public record. Is anyone interested in a class action suit?

Everything But The House Unprofessional Behavior at EBTH Pickup Location: A Retiree's Experience

I had a problem with EBTH on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017, and I felt like I needed to report it to them. I went to the Blue Ash location to pick up an item, and it was supposed to start at 3:30. I arrived at 3:15, and there were about 20 people in front of me. Nobody was complaining, and most people were talking to other people in line. Suddenly, a loud voice was heard, and we all turned to the area of cashiers. The man (I certainly cannot call him a gentleman) was berating a "runner" for taking two packages to a client's car. He said (and I quote), "I don't care how many little old ladies are here, you do not take packages to cars. It will slow down the process. You pick it up and put it here next to the cashier area. After they sign, they can carry it out - not you! Do you get it?"

It was embarrassing to watch this person being talked to in a very insulting voice. I was one of the little old ladies standing in line, and when my item came, I put it on the floor to push it out. I usually bring a cart to use for my items, but I had forgotten it. The cashier asked me if I wanted help, but I declined because I didn't want anyone to get in trouble. As I put it on the floor, six people came out of line to say they would carry it. The woman who picked it up said she had been coming for a long time and had never heard anything like that before, and I agreed.

I have been participating in EBTH auctions since one year after they became a business. I have always been very pleased with every person in their employ until now. A woman several people in front of me was embarrassed also by this guy because she did not have her invoice number. She had downloaded the wrong page to her phone. For years, I have seen people give their name and usually what they were picking up or how many items were being picked up. If they are changing the policy of what is needed, that should be in print when the sale is completed so that people do not have to be embarrassed by this "jerk" in front of everyone.

He was rude the last time I saw him, but nothing like yesterday. He is a fairly tall white man with a long ponytail. I am one of the "little old ladies" who do business with EBTH - I am 72 years old and in the last 7 years, I have had both knees replaced, one - twice, and a hip replacement. I need a cane to walk and am not used to being referenced this way. I know that at least 30 people in line were dismayed at his actions. I will share the experience with my friends, and I hope EBTH will address this with him. I am a retired Quality Improvement nurse, and this type of behavior is not excusable.

Everything But The House Horrible Customer Service and Absurd Shipping Costs: My Experience with [Company Name]

They give you an estimated shipping cost based on your zip code, and they mention that the price will be adjusted for multiple items from the same auction. Now, the estimate seems a little high, but one would assume that it's so they don't underestimate when you get the true shipping cost.

I won two items that I had intended to be gifts. I went to pay for my items and found I had two options: a) pick up my items on a set day during a set, narrow time window, which would have necessitated my leaving work early and dealing with heavy rush hour traffic, or b) pay $68 to have an 11-pound box shipped less than 50 miles. Although I was not pleased with the absurd shipping cost, I figured it was better than the time, stress, and hassle involved with trying to pick up the items.

On day 3, I received an email saying my items were being prepared for shipment, and I would soon receive an email with a tracking number. On day 9, I inquired about the status of my shipment because nothing had been updated since day 3. That's when I had the pleasure of encountering their horrible customer service. Absolutely no concern for the customer at all. All this person was capable of doing was stating policy. I honestly do not know why this company even bothers employing a customer service department because EVERYTHING they said I already read for myself on their website.

This person ticked me off to the point that I immediately filed a dispute with my credit card company. I don't hear anything else until day 14, I get an email with a tracking number. Day 15, there is a box sitting at my front door. So now I no longer need the purchase because the day it was to be gifted has passed. I'm not even sure if I want to open the box since I have a dispute pending. I've even thought about just claiming I never received it, but the integrity I was raised with won't let me do it.

So, long story short, they took 15 days to ship me an 11-pound box less than 50 miles for a whopping $68. Insulting in an age when I can get an item weighing 10 times as much shipped to me the next day for free. They do not cut you a break on shipping, which only means they are using the difference between the actual cost and what they charge to pad the bottom line, and their concern for their customers is laughable at best.

My first and last purchase from this company, and I cannot in good conscience recommend anybody doing business with them. I am thankful at this point that the no less than 10 other items I wanted I was outbid on. I am looking for every website I can find such as this so I can spread the word.

Everything But The House Mixed Experience with Everything But The House: Buyer Beware!

I gotta say, I've had a mixed experience with Everything But The House (ebth.com). As a buyer, I've won some pretty cool stuff, but there was one transaction that left me feeling pretty bummed. I bought this sweet stone sculpture from Ohio, but when it arrived, it had a big ol' chip in it. I sent pictures to customer service and they said they'd give me half my money back and file an insurance claim. But then I found out they were gonna keep the insurance money for themselves! And I have no idea if they claimed the full value of the sculpture or just the amount they refunded me. Plus, the customer service rep I talked to was super rude about the whole thing. Not cool, man.

On the other hand, as someone who sells stuff on eBay, I appreciate the importance of accurate descriptions. And that's where I have some concerns about ebth.com. Their descriptions are pretty vague and don't always include specific details. For example, I collect lamps and I've seen some really nice ones on ebth.com, but they're often listed with generic titles like "old lamp" instead of something more specific like "Antique Victorian banquet lamp." And that can really hurt the seller's chances of getting a fair price. I mean, I saw one lamp that sold for just two bucks that was easily worth over a hundred to a collector! It makes me wonder if the employees at ebth.com are intentionally providing poor descriptions so they can make more money off the items themselves. I mean, it's not like they're trying to sell the items for the highest possible price for their sellers or anything.

And then there's the issue of shipping items to Ohio. I get that it's a way for ebth.com to expand their customer base, but what about fragile items? What happens if something gets broken in transit? And what about insurance? I'm not convinced that sellers are getting a fair shake when it comes to insurance payouts. And then there's the fact that ebth.com seems to have a warehouse in Ohio where they store all the items that don't sell. What happens to those items? Do they just sit there forever? And how many employees have access to those items and could potentially steal from the sellers? It all seems a little sketchy to me.

Overall, I think ebth.com has some good things going for it, but there are definitely some areas where they could improve. Better descriptions would be a great start, as would more transparency when it comes to insurance and shipping. And maybe they could consider opening up some local stores to sell items that don't sell during an auction. That would make a lot more sense than just hoarding everything in a warehouse in Ohio.

Everything But The House EBTH Review: Stay Away from this Company - Fraudulent and Thieves

I wanna share my experience selling stuff on EBTH. It all started in February when I sent my items in and the sales rep told me my sale would start in late March or early April. But guess what? That didn't happen. They kept pushing the starting date back and I never got a call or a good explanation as to why. Finally, they said it would start on May 4th and some of my items actually went on sale. But they left out four of my most valuable items, including a platinum ring and a gold ring mounting with two loose diamonds. I had to call them to find out why and they didn't have an answer until they contacted another department.

The whole process took over three and a half months and I never got a copy of the contract I was supposed to sign and mail in with my items. After multiple calls and promises, they finally sent me a copy with their signature on it one hour before my sale ended. During the sale, there were a lot of red flags. They misidentified a group of princess cut white diamonds as "white sapphires" and grouped all my items with other items that didn't go together. They also didn't advertise my items like they said they would.

But the worst part came after the sale was over. They told me that the yellow and blue diamond I sent in were "synthetic" and wouldn't be sending them back to me. They basically stole them and said it was in the contract I signed. I'm currently seeking legal counsel to deal with these issues.

So, my advice is to stay away from this company. They're complete frauds and thieves.

Everything But The House EBTH Review: Obsessed with the Auctions, But Beware of Shipping Irregularities

I gotta say, I'm pretty obsessed with Everything But The House (EBTH). I mean, I bid on and win so many items, it's almost becoming a problem. But let me tell you, there's a couple things you gotta watch out for when it comes to shipping.

First off, there's two types of shipping. For small items, they'll mail it or send it via UPS themselves for a decent (but sometimes slightly high) fee. But for larger items, they use a shipping service called ShipHawk. Now, let me tell you, those ShipHawk rates are just ridiculous. I've seen shipping rates ranging from $50 to $900 for art or moderate-sized furniture. It's become a game for me and my friends to guess the shipping rates for some items.

Now, local pickup is usually the best option, but beware of the narrow time frame they allow for pickup. And sometimes, they even charge a warehouse pickup fee, which is just plain ridiculous. I've been doing online auctions for years and I've never been charged a pickup fee when I'm picking it up at their location.

But let me tell you, when EBTH ships items themselves, they're generally very well packaged. Especially for small items. I received a huge box that had 6 glasses all wrapped and taped up in copious amounts of bubble wrap. They were in perfect condition. However, I have noticed that some EBTH locations don't adhere to such high packaging standards, especially for heavier items. I received a marble mantle clock with bronze decorative pieces weighing about 40 lbs. It was wrapped 3 times with small bubble wrap and placed in a box too large for the item with a little filler paper. There was only one small fragile sticker on a corner that didn't properly warn carriers. And it wasn't even marked as HEAVY, which would have been appropriate since marble and bronze are heavy and the weight was more than one would expect from a box this size. It was obviously dropped or banged up as 2 corners were caved in. Of course, the marble was broken and the bronze pieces were knocked loose. Such a shame, I was really looking forward to this item.

And let me tell you, I had a similar shipping problem with a large antique Chinese vase with a brass stand and lid. The lid and stand were left in place and wrapped with Saran-type plastic wrap and some filler paper. It arrived shattered. The company did reimburse me, but they fail to comprehend the excitement and pleasure from winning an auction is your love for the piece and anticipation of its arrival. The long expensive shipping process removes much of the joy. Having a piece that you watched and bid on for days and won in a bidding war at the last minute taken away because they failed to make an effort to package it correctly is devastating. It's so disrespectful to their customers, the sellers, and to the items they say they care about.

So, EBTH, listen up. You gotta fix your shipping irregularities soon. Almost all the complaints here are due to shipping. Catch a clue!

Everything But The House EBTH Review: Shady Business Practices and Health Risks with Purchased Items

I gotta say, I bought this little drop leaf dining table from Everything But The House (ebth.com) and it was a bit of a disaster. I mean, based on the photos and description, it seemed like it needed a little TLC but was mostly good to go. So, I went to their Blue Ash location to pick it up and the lady who brought it out to me was all like "oh, how cute, it's darling!" I told her it was just the right size for my small dining room and she just stared at me with these big eyes. Weird, right?

Anyway, I get it home and start unloading it and there's this smell. It's like a mix of old and musty and some kind of solvent-based scratch cover. I figure, hey, old furniture smells old, no big deal. But then I start wiping it down with a vinegar and water solution and this greenish brown sludge starts coming off. And the smell gets worse. Like, way worse. It's like the smell of dirty animal waste. Gross.

So, I keep wiping and wiping and it takes me three hours and eight buckets to get one half of it mostly clean. And I realize that someone, either EBTH or the estate they were selling for, tried to cover up the filth with scratch cover to make it look presentable. But there were no disclosures about this on the item page or the main sale page. All they mentioned was some finish loss, water marks, and a missing drawer. That's it.

So, I contact EBTH and they apologize for the smell and refund my money. But they don't acknowledge the animal waste or the health risk. And I'm pretty sure the employee who brought it out to my car knew about the condition but didn't say anything. I mean, I don't blame her, she probably wasn't allowed to say anything. But still, it's pretty shady.

And the more I think about it, the more I realize that EBTH is just in it for the money. Their fees are ridiculous and their shipping costs are outlandish. And the more they change hands, the less they seem to care about anything other than their bottom line.

So, if you bought something from the Michigan/Mike Gaylord sale that closed on June 11th, you might want to take a closer look at your items. And if you're thinking about buying something from EBTH, just be careful. You might not get what you think you're getting.

Everything But The House EBTH Customer Service is Terrible - Beware Before You Buy!

I gotta say, I won an auction on EBTH for two bikes and a snow blower. I was pretty excited to pick them up, but the truck I had lined up fell through. So, I rescheduled the pickup at the warehouse in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, I missed the pickup date and forgot about it for a few months because of a family emergency. When I finally remembered, I reached out to EBTH to see if I could still get my stuff. They emailed me back a few days later (they didn't have the guts to call me) and told me my items were forfeited and no longer available for me to pick up. They didn't even offer a refund. I know I messed up by not picking up my items, but EBTH didn't even try to contact me to remind me. They just took my stuff and gave it away or re-auctioned it. I think it would have been nice if they had at least sent me an email or voicemail to let me know I forgot my stuff. That's just basic customer service, you know?

And that's not all. Just last week, I scheduled a pickup at the Blue Ash warehouse in Cincinnati for two expensive items. I was driving five hours from Pittsburgh, so I was really pressed for time. One of the items was even a gift, so I had to pick it up in person. I had just picked up some items at a different warehouse in Columbus and paid cash, but when I got to Blue Ash, they wouldn't accept cash. I was on the phone with customer service for 45 minutes trying to figure out what to do. We finally figured out that I could drive 40 minutes to the main site in Cincinnati, pay cash, and then go back to Blue Ash to get my items. But by the time I got back to Blue Ash, they had already closed. No one would stay to give me my stuff, so I had to drive all the way back to Pittsburgh empty-handed. Customer service didn't even offer to pay for shipping or anything. They didn't even apologize for not telling me they didn't accept cash. It was just terrible customer service all around.

I've spent thousands of dollars at EBTH, but I don't think I'll ever spend another penny there. Their customer service is just too poor. If you do decide to use EBTH, make sure you follow their rules really carefully and get everything in writing. They don't seem to care about their customers at all, only making money.

Everything But The House Everything But The House (EBTH) Review: Poor Service, Damaged Items, and Lack of Communication

So, I wanted to sell all my stuff when I was moving from NYC. I talked to a bunch of companies, but I went with Everything But The House (EBTH) because their rep was cool and said they had connections to get me a good deal. We agreed on a date for the auction and that it would happen when their NYC market was up and running. They picked up my stuff in July, and I was supposed to get contacted about a feature in August. But then I found out the auction was happening the next week, during Labor Day, out of Ohio. I told my rep that was a bad time, but he said it would be fine. The auction had a bunch of errors, and I had to keep fixing them. They didn't even check the descriptions before posting. Some items were missing, and the site crashed a lot. After the auction, I found out that EBTH had damaged some of my stuff and didn't even tell me. They made me cover everything with their insurance, but they didn't let me know when things got damaged, so my insurance didn't cover it. They also took forever to return some of my stuff, and when they did, it was damaged and missing pieces. They only offered me a little bit of money for the damages, even though the piece was worth a lot more. They even sent me someone else's stuff by mistake! EBTH doesn't seem to care about their clients or their mistakes. If you have nice stuff, don't use them. They don't tell you when they damage things, so your insurance won't cover it. It's a big problem, and they don't seem to care.

Everything But The House Mixed Feelings About Everything But The House (EBTH): Misleading Listings and Poor Customer Service

Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience with Everything But The House (EBTH). I had a couple of good purchases from them before, but last year I had two negative experiences that I wanted to share. I wrote an honest review and even provided pictures to show what went wrong. After that, I posted an update to be fair to the company regarding the resolution of the issue. However, I recently tried to log in to my account to get invoices and descriptions of items won, but I found out that my account was "closed" by the company without any communication from them. This is a red flag for me, and I just wanted to share this update for those who are considering shopping from or selling with EBTH.

For anyone considering purchasing with this company, I also wanted to share my first update that I posted as a comment in March 2019. I had an issue with a rug that I bought from them, and customer service was not helpful at first. After posting reviews and pictures on different platforms, I finally got a partial refund as a courtesy. It was a long and frustrating process, but I eventually got my full refund after threatening to dispute the charge with my credit card company. So, if you have an issue with an item that did not meet their listing descriptions, be prepared to work for it. EBTH's customer service does not make it easy.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about EBTH. They have some good items, but their misleading listings and poor customer service can be a hassle. I received my refund and have since deleted the app. I don't want to risk being fooled by their misleading listings again and be stuck with the next item.

Everything But The House Bidding and shipping

EBTH has a bidding quota and if it is not made the use a fake bidder number to raise the bids.

EBTH ships each item won separately instead of shipping in a bundle. This causes very high shipping costs and the delivery time on the shipping is usually late.

Theses matters should be investigated and somehow all the customers should get a refund for extra shipping cost

Everything But The House their service.

EBTH failed to provide actual photos of damage to a rug I purchased at an online auction. Written description noted damage and repair; however, this particular damage (significant) was not included in the photos. I was delayed in reporting and they said I did it. Really? I admit I was 30 days late; however, why on earth would I go to the effort of creating additional damage and then repairing it? Will never purchase from them again.

Everything But The House shipping

This company divides items into very small, inexpensive lots. They then require you to get a "shipping quote" right before bidding. If you win, you learn it is not a quote but a required charge. Even worse, they refuse to combine even the smallest items. So a few small coins cost over $60 to ship because they were purchased (same auction, sequential lots) as seperate lots. So $80 for the coins, $15 x 4 or $60 for the shipping.

This is absolutely by design to get more profit per item. It is dishonest, fraudulent and they leave no way to dispute. We all see what they are doing. No more for me, I've learned my lesson after @$10k in purchases pver the last year.

Everything But The House misrepresented condition of items

This is a copy of the email I sent to EBTH:

On Tue, 29 May at 1:15 PM, April Collins wrote:

Invoice B-4957891, Item #18ATL050-069, 4/30/18

I purchased a large piece grouping of Shelley Harebell China (invoice and item numbers listed above). After finally receiving both shipments and unpacking them, I am very concerned at the condition of the dinner plates and luncheon plates. These items were listed to be in "good" condition with minor wear to some of the bowls (I have attached the description given). I have attached pictures of several of the plates. Sadly, they are all in this condition. There are deep cuts, marks, and scratches to the surface of the plates and marks to the underside of the plates as well.

I have made several other purchases from EBTH and have been completely thrilled with the condition of the items and the attention that EBTH customer service provides. Sadly, this purchase has not been the same experience.

I ask that you please accept a return of these items and that my credit card be refunded the amount of the purchase and shipping. If you need any further pictures, documentation etc, I may be reached via phone at [protected] or via email at [protected]@gmail.com.

I really do enjoy shopping on your site and would like to continue!

Thank you very much for your assistance and resolution with this situation.

Best Regards,

April Collins

I spent $800 on some china that they listed as "good" condition with MINOR wear for its age. I received one box. I contacted them to inquire about the missing items... they said they could not locate the other box and offered a partial refund. Then, they FOUND and shipped the missing box.
When I opened and unwrapped the items, I was appalled. The vintage china that was supposed to be in "good" condition has deep cuts, scratches and marks to the front and back of the pieces. I had purchased these for my daughter for Mother's Day! There was no way I can give these to her as a gift.

The pictures that they included on the website were obviously of the 4 plates that were in the best condition. I sent a nice email with pictures to their customer service department asking to return the items for a refund. They replied that items are sold "as is where is" and that their representation of the items were accurate.

I spoke with one of their employees in Dallas that said they have SO MUCH BUSINESS that they can't keep up with it all. If they lose customers, there is another one around the corner...

If they would have just been a little, tiny bit understanding or sympathetic it would have made a huge difference. I copied their response below and have attached pictures of the items.

Thank you very much!

April Collins

Everything But The House listing was misrepresented/unwilling to resolve issue

In March I aggressively bid on a solitaire diamond ring and won it. I took the ring to my local jeweler and had it reset into a new and more elaborate mounting. I also had it appraised. To my surprise and dismay, the color grade of the stone was J-K; the original EBTH listing said it was color grade F-G. I would never have bid on it had it been listed as a J-K color grade. I contacted EBTH by email early in May and have 57 pages of messages back and forth but still no resolution. Early on, EBTH requested a copy of my appraisal, which I sent to them. They told me I would have to send them the ring to have it re-evaluated by their gemologist. I suggested that, to be fair, it needed to be re-evaluated by an independent third-party gemologist (i.e., not affiliated with EBTH). They said they could not do that. I even told them I would be willing to split the cost of a third-party evaluation of their choosing. EBTH also said that they could only do the re-evaluation if I sent them the original mounting, which I no longer have.in addition, they said they would send me a prepaid UPS shipping label but could only insure it for about 1/8 it's appraised value, based on their agreement with UPS. I told them that I have a major investment in this ring and I'm not going to take the risk, and that they needed to figure out a way to insure it for the full appraised value if they wanted me to send them the ring. Basically, we are at a standstill because they said they cannot do anything if I "refuse" to send them the ring. However, they said they cannot do an evaluation without the original mounting. I was also told by an individual from EBTH who I spoke with on the phone today that, without the original mounting, they could not re-evaluate the stone. She used the example of trying to return a pair of pants to the store after they were altered. They are not taking any responsibility and are unwilling to have the ring re-evaluated by a third party.

Everything But The House they don't really "authenticate" anything

I have significant complaints regarding my purchase of these Waterford wine glasses.

They are such clear and poorly executed fakes. I am horrified that they slipped by your people and my trust in your company is significantly diminished.

Date 02/26/2018
Invoice # B-4614964
Sale Mid Century Modern, Collectibles, Decor & More (18CIN082)

The advantage of buying from EBT is that each estate is reviewed by your company. Reproductions and fakes are noted. In this case, a really poorly executed fake slipped by.

These "Waterford Clarendon" wine hocks are full of errors. I would like a full refund including shipping. And I insist you pay for the return shipping.

If you compare the Waterford Clarendon from Replacement's website to the glasses you sent me you will see that they are not alike. Please note that in the real glass, the ends of each blue detail do not touch each other.

Here is a link to the page. https://www.replacements.com/p/waterford-clarendon-cobalt-wine-hock/watclacb/18375811

I have sent you photos of the glasses you sold me.

Everything But The House Do not buy from EBTH

Their items are overpriced. For no reason, because they often arrived being damaged or broken. Shipping costs are ridiculously high as well, and the smaller your item is the more expensive its shipping cost will be.
Yes, everything against the customers and it makes me feel bad. No one wants to be taken advantage of. I don't want to make thieк management richer, they have to improve their own service at first. And then we will see.
I highly recommend staying away.
