Esurance Overcharging

I had Esurance for my 1989 Ford Probe with an SR-22 filing. Monthly payments were about $100 for liability only, give or take. I bought a newer vehicle, a 2002 Chevy S10 with full coverage and went about to stop insuring the old vehicle and switch to the new vehicle. Now the monthly payment is $260, which is BARELY acceptable. But the thing that is clearly UNacceptable is that the first payment is a whopping $490. Esurance is a joke and I strongly urge everyone to avoid them at all costs.

Esurance is one of the worst insurance companies out there. They overcharge overcharge and are unreliable. There are a number of companies who are far superior.

PS... "Fees" referred to here (SR22 fee, monthly installment fees, any state fees/taxes that your state may collect through your insurance company).

Example:

start a policy today for $600.00 + fees/six months (6/26 to 12/26):

5 payments:

6/26 = $200.00 + fees (2 months, 6/26 to about 8/26)
7/26 = $100.00 + fees (1 month, 8/26 to 9/26)
8/26 = $100.00 + fees (1 month, 9/26 to 10/26)
9/26 = $100.00 + fees (1 month, 10/26 to 11/26)
10/26 = $100.00 + fees (1 month, 11/26 to 12/26)

7/1 change cars/coverages, and premium from $600 to $1560.

6/26 payment already paid for 6/26 to about 8/26 based on $600.00.

Now, 7/1 to 8/26 needs to be rebilled for the $960.00 difference in premium. ($230.00)

So, in July would need to pay:

$230.00 for updated coverage from 7/1/10 to 8/26/10
and
$260.00 for the new monthly installment.
-------------
$490.00 total

then Aug to Oct schedule would be about $260.00 + fees.

So, you weren't being "ripped off", you were being "rebilled" for the new premium due.

Esurance They suck and I lost 7 grand

I totaled a motorcycle back in September. My claim was filed with in 3 days (two days late due to surgery from the accident). After saying they were being held up by the bank, 5 Months later (February) they finally settled my claim and paid the bank for the bike (bike was financed). Well, having gap insurance to cover the balance, I filed my gap insurance claim. You only have 90 days from date of loss to file this claim. They give you and additional 30 days just in case. They take into consideration the date of the insurance settlement. My claim was denied thanks to Esurance and their timely claim settling! They now owe me $7000 to cover what gap insurance was suppose to cover, but won't, because Esurance was on top of their game and got my claim settled so quickly. For those who don't know, Esurance is American Modern Insurance Group. Don't be fooled by the name if you have insurance through AMIG. They are one in the same. And they suck.

American Modern Insurance is an A+ rated carrier, and settled about 90% of their Katrina claims in about 30 days. You seemed to refer to 'esurance' often, however the claims adjuster would have stated that they are with American Modern Insurance. Your insurance cards, and all other policy info. would have said American Modern Insuance. Similar to other insurance companies, Esurance is in partnership with other companies, such as the motorcycle, boat, rv, and other specialty products. If you do some more homework on other companies, you will see that the 'underwriting' carrier is often a completly different company.

For more information regarding American Modern Insurance, and their AM Best rating, please visit www.amig.com and www.ambest.com As for your claims story, there seems to be some missing pieces to the puzzle. Many insurance claims proceed in a similar fashion, you may want to state your concerns about your gap policy to the lender.

Esurance Charged $50 to cancel

After our truck was stolen, we cancelled our coverage with Esurance. They said they were charging us 50 dollars to do so. We said we never read anything like that in any our policy literature, and they said we had agreed to it by clicking through one of the many screens we had to in order to become insured. They could not give us anything in hard print stating this and so we just had to "take their word for it!" Unacceptable. Horrid customer service, especially considering we had just been victimized and left without any means of transportation. The CSR was rude to us in an upsetting time on top of their skeezy policy that could not be pointed to in any feasible manner. Stay away, no matter how their cute little pink haired cartoon character makes them sound so honest and socially aware etc...

Base rates change ALL THE TIME!

They can increase, decrease or stay the same.

These changes can be very noticable depending on when they occur.

If you have an accident and a base rate change occurs, your next renewal could be extreme with ANY company.

IE: Current term 4/1/2010 to 10/1/2010:

Currently clean Record, no accidents, violations, claims.

Currently Paying $600.00/six months.

10/1/2010 to 4/1/2010 may show:

$600.00 base rate
$80.00 base rate increase
$100.00 loss of accident free discount/savings
$120.00 accident surcharge
-------------------
$900.00 for renewal.

Easy issue... shop around... find out if still the best rate you can get.
If so, keep it.
If not, buy a new policy, and do not renew the current one.

We all shop for cars, clothes, food, cellphone service, etc... What says that you have to renew with any company!?! Esurance, Geico, Hartford, Safeco 21st century, any of them?

OH! and then tried to charge me a $50.00 cancellation (a policy that was a small line buried in their fine print). I asked how much my refund would be for canceling and they said they couldn't know that until I canceled, she was very short with me about me trying to find out this information. I asked for a manager and got the answer $42.00 refund, I am letting it run out but never ever had I had such a horrible experience with people not answering policy questions we have a right to know about.

horrible company! I called after my rates were to drop due to a speeding ticket 3 years ago. No one could tell me how much my rates would drop. I got my renewal and the rates dropped $5.00. I asked why so little and they said there were new policies in effect in CA that raised our rates, when I asked by how much they said they didn't know then said it was different for each customer.
I researched new insurance and found Geico charged less than half of what I was paying esurance. They are a ripoff, do not use them!

Esurance Car Insurance

In 2004, I had 2 auto accidents that were 2 months apart. Neither were my fault. Esurance stopped my PIP benefits for the 1st when I had the 2nd accident. I guess they felt I had recovered. However, injuries from the 1st got worse with the 2nd car accident. Esurance sent me to 2 independent medical exams. The chiropractor said that I chiropractor could never help me. The 2nd was a pain and rehab dr who said I should go home and exercise. When I did not get better in 2006, I went to a neurosurgeon who told me that I needed 2 surgeries. Esurance has ignored my letters and I have been suffering and in a lot of pain ever since. My back has gotten much worse in those areas and is now described as severe. I have lost my job and my health insurance shortly after the accidents. My boss was not happy that I could not do the same job that I used to do. I have filed a complaint letter with Esurance and plan to file suit on Oct. 20, 2009 if I do not get response this time. These accidents have destroyed my life.

Esurance Terrible company

I started my search for automobile insurance with Geico and after the amount was too high I went to Esurance.com. After i received a quote and my payment was taken, my monthly payment increased two times. I was told that the state of FL by law would not let me cancel with in 60 days and that i would be charged a fee. I could not afford the new payment but i stuck it out and when my 60 days was up i sought more affordable insurance, a 100 dollars a month cheaper to be exact, and canceled the policy with Esurance. They still charged me a 10% cancellation fee after the 60 days of $84 dollars. I would not recommend this insurance company.

FL and SC law forbids cancellation within 60 days of inception without proof of duplicate/alternate coverage or other valid reasons.

Check your laws for a list of valid reasons. The insurance company can't "lead" you with the reasons allowed, you have to provide the reason for cancellation. If you buy from company A today @ $1200/six months and next week find a policy from company B for $900.00/six months, then BUY IT! Call company A back and tell them that you have purchased a policy from company "B", provide the company name and policy number and get your refund from company A!

A few bad apples spoiled the WHOLE bucket on that. Too many people were buying a policy, getting the ID cards, and cancelling the policy. They'd have "proof of insurance" in the vehicle, even though the policy was NO LONGER valid! They were driving without insurance, and getting into accidents, leaving the rest of us vulnerable!

It was NOT the insurance companies fault that people were doing that, and the laws were changed for this. It was (some) customers!

In regard to "post purchase rerates" and "cancellation fees":

1. ANYTIME you get a quote/buy a new policy, with ANY COMPANY there is a "discovery period" where the underwriting investigation is done. Most of the time today, with modern technology MVR, Credit, Verification of Previous coverage and Claims reports can be verified at purchase. But, if a state system is down, and the company can't pull the MVR (or other report), and you indicate that you have no accidents, violations or claims, the policy will start with that information.

However, once the MVR, Claims, Credit, or whatever report(s) that may not have been able to be verified at the time of purchase finds "other" information, rerate(s) will occur.

2. If a rerate occurs, and it is the result of an error, contact your insurance carrier for the contact information to dispute the information. Just like errors can occur on credit reports, they can occur on MVR, Claim and other reports that are used to establish the premium owed. You will want to clear that from the current carrier's records, AS WELL AS the reporting agency's records, so that the issue won't be a recurring issue in the future, when you renew and/or purchase a new policy.

3. Granted, not every insurance company charges a "cancellation fee", but it is NOT uncommon. Regardless of which insurance company you do business with, ALWAYS check the terms and conditions. If you accept them, without reading them, you are still legally bound to them. Some states do not allow this, MN, MI, TX, IL, NJ are a few of them... but others will allow for this, and the cancellation fee will either be a "flat fee" regardless of how much time is left before renewal. Other's will allow a percantage of the leftover premium. So, if 50 days of premium left at $5.00/day for $250.00 of premium, then $25.00 cancellation fee deducted from refund, or if only 6 days of premium left at $5.00/day for $30.00 of premium unpaid, then $3.00 cancellation fee. This is especially important to watch if the cancellation fee is a flat rate! If the CX fee is $50.00, but only 2 days of the current term left, at $5.00/day, then you'd owe MORE for cancelling than to keep the policy for two more days.

You need to make the decision, pay $10.00 for two more days of coverage, or cancel early and have $10.00 credit with $50.00 fee, to pay $40.00 more for two days less coverage.

Don't get mad at anyone but yourself for not knowing what is disclosed in declaration pages and terms and conditions, and coverages selected!

It is NOT uncommon for insurance policies to be purchased at "state minimum" liability coverages. In FL, the lowest Bodily Injury Limits without declining the coverage is: $10, 000 per person/$20, 000 per accident cap.

If that is what someone has purchased, even if they are driving a 1984 Ford Escort, and hit someone else who has medical bills as a result of the accident, $10, 000 will be very easily exhausted! If they hit someone and cause $50, 000 in medical bills, but have only purchased $10, 000 in coverage, that driver will still be responsible for $40, 000 in medical bills!

A 1984 Ford Escort can still cause just as much damage/injury as a 2010 Focus, 2010 Chevy, et al.

Liability limits are NOT insuring the vehicle! Liability limits are insuring against the damage/injuries the vehicle can cause!

Call your agent/company to make sure you have enough insurance! One week in the hospital today can easily cost $100, 000! If you only have $10, 000, $25, 000, $50, 000 in liability coverage, you are UNDERINSURED, unless you have a million dollars in the bank! You can be sued, garnished, or have your assets and bank accounts of various types seized in a lawsuit if you don't have enough insurance!

Esurance Negligence and Delay

my car was hit from the back on the highway three weeks ago. The person at fault was given a ticket and his insurance company (ESURANCE) is suppose to take care of the damage to my car. I called them four times and left voice mails. Fifth time finally the insurance agent picks up the phone and tells me that she is investigating and let me know when she has an update for me. I ask her to give me a timeline and she tells me she will let me know when she has an update. Its been two weeks since that last conversation and she has not responded back. My rear bumper is still damaged and I have no clue about the extent of damage to the car. My thanksgiving weekend got screwed up. Esurance is not ready to do anything about it.

Esurance Avoid this company

I was in an accident on Aug 20. I was rear ended at 30 mile per hour and my car was totaled. So please keep in mind that this accident was in no way my fault and could not be prevented or avoided.
I called Esurance and the man that answered was everything you needed after being in an accident. He was kind and very patient. The next day I talked to a case worker and she was very nice and walked me through what would happen next. The appraisor came out and saw my car. He valued the car at $7400!?!? Kelly blue book valued my car at $9180. How could this happen.
So Mr. Appraisor went to autotrader.com and picked three cars in my area from private sellers. One car was valued at 11K, one at 9.5K and the other at 7K. The average is 9K+. The appraisor basically claimed in his report that I could replace my car with 7K.
The adjuster sent me the report I am mentioning (this is a very useful tool, if you do not have it request it). I called her and explained that this was outrageous. There was no way I was going to be able to replace my car with the amount they claimed it was worth. So I emailed her the KBB value and a handful of auto trader ads for cars in my area and told her it was unrealistic to think I can replace my car with the amount she quoted. She responded and said I could get my own appraisor and to make his report. If they disagree we will have to go to an umpire.
No one plans to be in an accident but it really stinks to be in one and have the people you pay on time every month really screw you over...it has been 3 weeks now and we are still going back and forth in email. Wish me luck.

I am in the same situation as you right now. My car had an accident and it wasn't my fault so I called esurance and they totaled my car. The KBB value of my is $4, 500 and esurance said they will only give me $2, 700 for my car now I'm in the process of getting an attorney. These people are thieves and I don't know they are still in business. I filed a complaint with BBB and I will do the same with my State attorney.

I too was in a serious rear-end accident on Sept. 23, 2008. I was not at fault (I was sitting in a turn lane at a complete stop) and I do not have Esurance but the guy who hit does have Esurance. He hit me first and then went on to hit 3 other people. All totaled he caused damage to 6 cars including his own. The excuse for the accident was that his prosthetic foot fell off and lodged in the pedals. He is wholly at fault for the accident and my car was hit from behind and then shoved into an SUV in front of me so the rear end and the front end of my car are crunched. It took 3 days for Esurance to contact me and then another week for them to give me a rental car to use. I finally got the valuation of my totaled car and their estimate of its value is a joke. I had a 2006 VW Jetta with only 30, 000 (approximately) mile on it. It was in excellent condition and they say it was only in moderate condition. How you can tell that from the wrekage, I have no idea. Anyway, they now have me dealing with 2 people at their company. One for the car damage and one for the personal property and bodily injury (I was transport by ambulance to the hospital). Their valuation of my car is about $3000 too low for me to get a replacement car. I have no idea what they will do for the personal property and bodily injury I sustained. I have researched the value of my vehicle with KBB, Edmunds, NADA and a local VW dealership so I know the value of the vehicle but they use some company called CCC (which the general public can not access) to come up with their estimate. Through my research I came up with a value of $17, 500 for an average with the lowest being $16, 300 and the highest being $19, 000. Yet, they insist on only offering me a maximum of $15K and change. They will add in for the tax and some other $39 charge but then they deduct $904 for dealer prep. I should not have to pay anything to get a replacement (comparable) car nor should my insurance company (which is what they want me to do and have said as much). They sent me about 5 pages of car comparisons, even from the dealer in my are, but after all the deductions they take on those cars there is now way I can get a replacement for the money they offered to me. It is now 3 weeks on since the accident and all the bruises and cuts have healed except for a spot on my forearm that is still bruising and some discomfort in my neck but the real pain in my neck is dealing with these people. I thought I could handle this by myself as I was not trying to take the company for any maximums just fair compensation but I see I was wrong so now I am looking for an attorney. Hopefully, I can find an attorney that will not charge me his fee but charge Esurance so I can get the appropriate compansation for my car and injuries.

Esurance They screwed me

In an effort to simplify our lives and save a few bucks, my wife switched our vehicle insurance to eSurance in May 2008. I was skeptical-I like to be able to visit an agent in-person if need be-but everything seemed okay at first. Several months later, I was involved in a motorcycle accident. It was the first accident I had ever had, and I'm 45 yrs old. I suffered no injuries, and the damage to the bike was minimal. In fact, under MN state law, this was not even a reportable accident. As it was an old bike I had elected to hold only liability coverage, so no claim was made.

However, the police did come to the scene, ask for proof of insurance, etc - and I gave them my eSurance policy number. This is standard practice, and it appears they wrote a report and submitted it to the state despite the fact that its circumstances did not meet the statutory threshold for reporting. Several months later, I received a letter from the state advising that they had contacted eSurance to verify that I had coverage, and that eSurance had DEINED that I had coverage at the time of the accident. Subsequently, my license to drive was being suspended and the license plates on my bike were revoked and had to be surrendered.

I contacted the state immediately, and told them my story, and faxed them documents that I had, including the binder & credit card records of payments that proved I had paid the amount specified for that coverage. They were satisfied, and said they were familiar with problems of this sort with eSurance. They saw I had a perfect driving record, would have no trouble getting insured, and who in the world drives a motorcycle without insurance to save $60 a year? They said if I secured coverage elsewhere and gave them proof of having done so, they would correct my record.

Now here’s the rub: eSurance DOES NOT insure motorcycles! Yes, that’s right. They ACT like they do, and will SELL motorcycle insurance to you, but the company that underwrites the policy is NOT eSurance. So does eSurance tell you that at the time you give them money for your motorcycle insurance policy? No, they don't. Incidentally, they made a notation on my auto insurance with a code number which seemed to correspond to my purchase of motorcycle coverage, but looking at my insurance documents and cab card, motorcycle coverage is not specified. However, the difference between what I paid for my car and the total bill equals what I paid for motorcycle coverage.

So, when they were asked to verify motorcycle insurance was in effect, did they tell them that they had sold me a policy from another company - or refer them to that company to verify it was in force? No, they simply denied me.

Incidentally, I cancelled my coverage with eSurance immediately after securing coverage with GEICO - and I actually saved a lot of money switching to them. Two weeks later, I received a letter from eSurance advising me that THEY were canceling my coverage because I HAD A REPORTABLE ACCIDENT & HAD NOT REPORTED IT TO THEM, AND HAD FALSELY claimed to have my motorcycle insured by them. Someone want to tell me why I would have to report an accident to them if I DIDN'T have a policy with them in the first place?

Esurance is an absurd company, seems to cater to those with difficulty getting insurance coverage, and either intentionally obtuse or is just clueless. In any case, I do NOT recommend you ever purchase coverage thru eSurance - and caution anyone who must deal with them or their insured persons related to a claim.

I obtained an auto insurance quote from esurance.com and subsequently purchased the policy.
I paid in full.
As soon as esurance had taken my payment in full, they requested all kinds of proof for their supposed "discounts." They requested proof of previous policy or my rate would go up by $ 300 which was a 40% increase of my current premium.
I provided proof of my previous coverage so my policy premium remained the same.
The following day (day 1 of my policy being in effect), they reviewed my policy declarations and although I had provided proof of insurance during the last 6 months, they stated that my Bodily Injury Limit was 30k person/60k incident and for this reason, my rating was being downgraded and my policy with esurance was going from 50k/100k bodily injury to 30k/60k and my policy premium was still going up another $ 205 (which was about 33% higher than the current premium I had).
Geico provided a cheaper quote without any of the arbitrary rules that esurance had.
To me it seemed as though they were going to find any excuse to spike my premium after the supposed "discounts" they provided.
How can they lower your limits and spike your premium?
How is my bodily injury limit relevant to my new insurance policy and then a reason to spike my policy premium?
To me it seems, they make you jump through hoops and more to provide any supposed discount. They have arbitrary, subjective and beneficial policies to them to spike your premium once you are on the hook.
Upon cancellation of a policy I used 1 day, they take the liberty of charging me a 10% cancellation fee of the total policy premium-not the $ 754 they originally quoted me and priced me, but rather the $ 960, they had spiked the premium to, after I was already on the hook with them.
My 1 day policy and stress with esurance cost me $ 100.
To put the cherry on top, they e-mailed me documentation to return a driver sense device for another insured in another state. Just another sign of the disorganization of this company and their true colors.
I could have used that money in much better ways.
I have policy now through Geico.
Whatever you do, avoid Esurance.

I just paid the down payment for my new policy 6 days ago. I get a email saying that I owe them a remaining balance of $26.00 dollars from the last policy, which is a policy that was paid in full. They tell me that they will cancel my new policy if I don't pay them the $26.00 balance. I ask them what am I being charged for, and they say "a bounced check. You'll have to call your bank" I say "I've never used a check in my life, Ma'am -what am I being charged for? and why should I call my bank and ask them for a reason why esurance is charging me for a check I never used. That doesn't make any sense Ma'am"
"hold on let me see..." she types on her computer "your being charged for a policy change" she says; changing her excuse.
"I'm sorry but... what policy change? I haven't changed my policy. Could you please explain it to me, what I'm being charged for" I ask.
"hold on, let me get my supervisor" she says.
the supervisor gets on the phone and says "you're being charged for 8 days out of your last policy. By law, we can do that" (a policy that was paid in full)
"why?" I ask.
"because you changed your policy"
"If didn't return to this company, you wouldn't be able to charge me for a service that was paid in full, no... you waited until I started a new policy with you to screw me by law you say. You still haven't told me why I'm being charged, and you keep changing your excuses as to why you're charging me $26.00, I'm confused and angry because you're threatening to cancel my insurance for something you can't properly explain. you have given me 3 different stories and say by law you can do that."
To my readers. I have no choice but to have insurance in my state, because of the law, and because of the law I have to put up with companies like esurance that think they can use the law to take advantage of you. If you're like me, make your complaint heard. Don't get walked on by these companies and their "by law" requests in Washington.

### esurance. my girlfriend had her honda del sol stolen. she was notified by an impound yard 10 months later that it was up for auction. esurance knew it was there when they were notified by the impound yard, because the insurace papers were in the glove box, but they never told my girlfriend it was there. when we went to look at the car the tire was blown out, it was wrecked and the engine was knocking and it was pouring out black smoke out of the tailpipe. she had full coverage on the automobile. she was denied a rental car by esurance. and they offered her $600 and the car back or if esurance kept the car she would get $2800. there was way more than $600 in damage, especially in the engine not even counting the body work. my girlfriend agreed on the $2800. so my girlfriend had to sign the title over to them and they wanted a power of attorney over my girlfriend, for what? she gave them the title and they cut her out a check for $250. saying that's all they said they would pay. 4 different people were there and witnessed the ### say $2800. esurance denied that conversation ever took place. $250 for a $5000 car with full coverage. i hope they all rot in hell

Esurance Check your rates

I went to esurance two years ago after another carrier dropped me because of an accident. At first, I thought their rates were fair considering my accident. However, after two years, my rates weren't coming down, but points were coming off my driving record. When I questionsed them, I was informed that they count points for 5 years. I live in CA and in CA, I thought tickets and accidents were only supposed to be held against you for 3 years. So I called other insurance carriers. What I found is several carriers only went back three years and the result was, my new insurance is $1800 a year less than esurance rates!

If you live in CA, have points coming off your driving record, and are insured with esurance, but your rates are not also coming down, check with other carriers, it could save you alot.

No matter who you have, esurance, geico, progressive, all state, or any other...

Every company has different underwriting standards, not to mention that there are some things on your driving history that if they start on your policy, CAN NOT be rerated by the new carrier regardless if you have been with them for six weeks or 16 years!

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS shop...

For example, depending on your state, if you start a policy with company X Y or Z, but you have had a lapse of coverage for ANY length of time, you will have a lapse rating on that policy FOREVER! So, once you have your new policy for a minimum of 6-12 months, SHOP SHOP SHOP!

So, when you got the quotes from company X Y and Z to start a new policy today, they would ALL be rating you with a lapse rating. X quoted you 150/mo. Y quoted you 165/mo. Z quoted you 140/mo. So, today you start with Z, at $140./m0.

Six months from now, company Z offers you a renewal of $140.00/mo again! HOWEVER, now that you have had continuous coverage for 6 months, companies X and Y, may be able to offer you $120 and $130, instead of the $150 and 165 from today, BUT, company Z still has to use the lapse, because they can't use a policy of THEIRS to rerate back to "continuous" coverage.

So, six months from now, you change to company X because they were able to get you at $120.00/mo... THEN, next year... come back into the market! SHOP SHOP SHOP! Company Z, can now rate you with ONE YEAR of CONTINUOUS coverage, because you had a minimum of 6 months with company X, so now get quotes from company N, Y and Z, because your rating factors have changed again, and MAYBE other companys can beat the rate at company X, because some of the rating factors may not be able to be adjusted by company X!

I am a licensed agent with a particular company. I understand that this type of thing can be very frustrating to try and keep up with! I see these same complaints in different forums with Esurance, AllState, State Farm, Geico, and many many other companies, and even my own company! They are frustrating, I will not and do not deny this. However, do a little research, do your homwork, and in the long run, you may save yourself LOTS AND LOTS of money and frustration, and/or get yourself a LOT more coverage for the same amount of money you are paying now!

You can be surcharged on your policy for only 3 years, but the accident/ticket will show up on your insurance record for 5 years and will prevent you from receiving all of the best discounts for the 5 years.

Esurance nonresponsive to customers

I had insurence with Esurance for six month, now I wish I didn't.
I had a ticket that I had taken care of and went to traffic school to have it off my record. To make it short, my point was on because the court had not updated the information so I had to go back to have them correct it. Once they corrected the error and taken off the point, I had contacted esurance to have the extra 100 dollars refounded back to me because that is what I was told when I spoke to a salesmen on the time of purchase. The lady I spoke to had laughed at me and said "oh, not all points are actually off the record, they stay on and that is how mine is". I requested her to look at my driving record again and refused, so I am out of a 100 dollers and lesson learned. NEVER again will sign with them and anyone who ask I tell them not to go with them. I hope they will be out of business ASAP!

Esurance Fraud and cheating company!

I engaged an agent from this company and found that my premium was less than half what progressive and many other insurance companies quoted me at. This raised a red flag. (I mean, wow, out of the blue a lone insurance company is half my quoted premium from scores of other agencies). I then started asking the agent very direct questions trying to catch him off guard or catch him lying. The more and more I pried into the nitty gritty workings of their company the more red flags were being raised. I then found this site on the internet and it confirmed my suspicious.

This is a very shady company people, don't be lured by their cheaper rates, they obviously have an unethical business model that is set up to glean extra revenue from the customer with various nickel and dime charges hidden in fine print.
Sooo, I decided to call up again with a total bogus name and info and pretend I was going to buy policy. I asked the same direct questions and even presented various scenario's to the agent (various scenarios wherein I would file a claim, and their resulting process) Both agent's conflicted greatly in what they said. This was the nail in the coffin for me. This is a very very shady company.

I plan on contacting everyone here that was 'robbed' by this company and I plan on contacting the Better Business Bureau.

Not to mention they claim to be based in California, yet the only address I found was a PO Box in South Dakota. Yes, a PO Box. What kind of reputable company does business from a PO Box. The only companies I can think of are collection agencies and other low-rent type of businesses.

Something else very questionable was their response to my inquiries regarding the need and use of my social security number. (Because outside of home loans, auto loans and medical insurance, I don't give me social to anyone for any reason what so ever.) When I asked both agents why my social security number was needed they fumbled around with responses and contradicted each other. (Finally after I said 'well thanks for your time but I do not render my social to just any random business - I will have to pass on this policy', only then did they say they could give me a policy without it) Shady! Shady! Shady! In the end they claimed it was to ensure 'my policy is as accurate as possible'. Absolute rubbage. It is obviously used for collection purposes when the customer ultimately cancels their policy and then gets reamed with cancellation penalties hidden in fine print. Who ever heard of a cancellation penalty from an insurance company...

As far as "stealing" your money... NO... it was invoiced, it was due... Once you cancelled/nonrenewed, then you'd be entitled to a refund just like paying for an item at a department store, and deciding to return it. You'd get your money back according to the stores terms and conditions in the return policy.

Write a check today for $100 product at a department store and return it tomorrow! You will likely get a check in the mail 2-3 weeks, after your check clears. Or, if you paid cash, you'd most likely get a cash refund at return. Or if you paid with a Visa, you'd get a credit to your Visa card.

Why is this so hard to understand?

As far as someone "not calling back"... You were expecting a callback... You remember to call EVERYONE back, and do EVERYTHING you have ever been supposed to do? Just forget? Be out of the office unexceptedly sick, or something?

SIMPLE! Call them back! Take responsibility for your own situation. STOP blaming everyone else! Grow up and be an adult! Ask questions, don't assume, read your documents BEFORE you agree to them! If you click "agree" with Esurance, your cellphone provider, or even my own company, and then don't want to be held accountable for that, you have the issues not the merchants!

regardles of how you pay, Debit Card, Credit Card or Electronic Check... NO business has control on how fast banks post credit. If my company issues you a credit, it can take 2-30 days for YOUR BANK to post the credit to your account.

It is OUT of my company's bank account, today, but some BANKS don't post credit until the new monthly statement prints.

So, whether Esurance, or Sprint, or Comcast, or any other merchant can not promise a specific time frame. I know that it averages 2-5 days for credits to post to customer accounts, but it can be UPTO 30 days...

Also, if your last payment was processed as an Electronic Check, we won't issue credit unless it has been at least 7-10 days since the "check" was processed. DC's and CC's get IMMEDIATE approval by the bank, where "echecks" are just like walking into the grocery store and pay with a check, you get to leave, but the store doesn't get the money for 1-5 days, AND the check could be returned. There is no immediate debit from your bank account's available balance with an Echeck, like with a DC or CC.

Even with the immediate debit from your "available balance", it is NOT immediately given to the merchant. It is only PENDING... Even after it "settles" or "posts", the merchant may not have the money for another day or two, even though it is "out" of YOUR bank account.

Don't blame the merchants for BANK issues. Don't blame the banks for customer issues that had to create safe guards to minimize fraud. Blame the criminals and thiefs, which not us, the merchants or the banks who can't readily identify those who force ALL the rest of us into stupid rules and regulations that protect US all from THEM!

I have had nothing but PROBLEMS with Esurance. We had coverage with them for a 6 month policy. Towards the end I looked around and compared prices, I could save over $40 a month with State Famr and have a real local agent. I called them to cancel my policy at the end of the 6 month term. My fiance told them we found a cheaper rate. The man on the phone told my fiance that he would try to match our new qoute, to give him a chance to do that, he would call us back on "Monday" with a new quote. Never heard from them on Monday. Gave the benefit of the doubt, waited 2 more days, end of term came, never heard anything, tried calling - you always get the run around when calling this company. No results. My account was charged for the new policy.
This company tried to STEAL my money. I immediately got on the phone and told the customer service person that she needed to refund my money at once. I do not take kindly to having my money STOLEN. After threaterning a law suit with the state's attorney, I was told it would take TWO WEEKS to get a refund. What a crock. They stole my money in seconds.
The cherry on top is they did not report to the MVA so we had to get proof of insurance to get out of $2, 000 in fines from the MVA. We spent 4 hours in the MVA and on the phone just to get Esurance to fax a FR19 form to the MVA. We tried to speak to a supervisor and continued to get the run around. RIDICULOUS.

Their customer service center is in South Dakota (because it's in a central time zone) which helps them remain open for 24 hours a day. That's why you send mail there, because it's for customer service. The main office is in San Francisco, but they don't handle customer issues. Most large companies have a PO box, too, instead of a physical one... just imagine how much mail there would be coming directly to the headquarters if that's where you want it to go. Ridiculous.

As far as the cancellation fee, it's stated right at the beginning.

I cant believe this when I read this.. your complaining about how they charge for insurance. .anyways, I was just upset that you send the cancel fee was hidden.. no its not, its right on line when you first start. When you FIRST log into your online account, you have to read and accept your terms and acceptance.. did you not read yours before you accepted them? because in that document it clearly states IF YOU CANCEL MIDTERM THERE WILL BE A CANCEL FEE of either $50 or 10% of the left over premium (depending on your state) ridiculous...

Esurance - Charging to cancel policy!

My policy is not even a month in to the renew time and when I called to cancel it they charged me 10% of the remaining amount owed on the policy. I have never heard of any other insurance doing that and I have had at least four companies!

Esurance Esurance - is a rip-off insurance company!

Senior Esurance employees scan the internet for negative comments about "their" company. These as usually full-blown zealots that will tell the public anything to protect Esurance.

I know this because I use to sit by three different zealots in the 2 years I was there. Allow me to run the scam outline by you again and explain. You take out an Esurance policy. You're required to present proof of prior insurance to Esurance - so you send it. But alas... your proof of prior insurance doesn't get processed. So the company computer rerates you for a higher amount. (The amount assessed for someone who has no history of prior insurance). And then the computer takes out a huge amount from your account to make up the difference for the rerate. You find out from your bank or cc company that a huge amount was taken from your account, and you hit the ceiling. You then call in very mad.

Is this illegal? No... but just barely. Because if you're aware that the money was taken out of your account, and you're willing to call in - Esurance might take care of the problem. Keep in mind that a significant percentage of people won't notice or call in, or want to fight it, so Esurance keeps the extra money after the rerate. (Which is a lot - taken times the total number of customers that don't call). So even if you should make the call to customer service. They tell you that the Processing Dept. checks Proof of Prior Insurance emails and letters in the order they're received, and they'll notify you when the correction is made. During the same time YOUR background can be further investigated to see if you have any speeding tickets, accidents, etc. that could lead to a justified increase. (So they can keep part the money taken from your account the second time). These games go on and on. All legal - but not the way I would want to treat people.

Then there's the issue of fees. The fees are outrageous, and the system programmers have found cleaver ways of making the fees, and other , less obvious to find for people that aren't very observant.

Want to hear more stories? Let me cut to the chase. Don't give Esurance your card number. Go elsewhere. Because if you don't. I'll be here to say - I told you.

my husband has been paying $144 a month for coverage for the 2 of us. He had a hit and run and I got Bruce's estimate, of $1300. After numerous calls and undeliverable e-mails. I heard nothing. So called the Esurance number and told the person there about this, he told me to call her supervisor, Ashley Leah, but when I emailed her I found out that she was a PORN star, what kind of business is this, ugh! This is definetely a SCAM,you will NOT BE INSURED

On January 1st of this year, while traveling on Pacific Ave between Forest Grove and Cornelius, a driver entered the highway from a driveway on the north side of the road, entered the center divider while speeding up, and pulled into my vehicle. It happened fast enough that I did not have time to react to avoid the collision. We both pulled to the right shoulder of the road immediately to exchange personal and insurance information. He told me that he didn’t see my vehicle as he sped up to merge. I asked how he couldn’t see a 2007 Chevy Tahoe that has automatic daytime running lights, to which he simply stated again that he did not see my vehicle. Based on the other driver’s insistence that he would insure his insurance company would cover all repairs and his pleading that I not let the police sort the accident out, I felt it best to immediately contact the police and report the accident.
When the police arrived, he and I both provided a statement (police report is attached). The investigation seemed to take longer than I thought it would. It turns out the reason for the length of the investigation is that his Washington driver’s license came back as being suspended, so he was going to be cited for the accident. Though there was evident body damage, my vehicle seemed to be in good working order, so after the police left, I continued driving the vehicle. I was a little rattled by the suddenness of the accident, so I decided to go find a parking lot and park for a bit to settle down. I also decided that I would forgo the errands I had intended and try to make a little money driving for UBER.
Immediately upon returning home that evening I completed an accident report for Oregon DMV, and filed a claim online with my insurance company (Esurance). I received an email on January 2nd from Esurance informing me of the claim number and adjuster assigned to the claim. On January 4th, I received a letter concerning what would be my responsibilities during the claim process. On January 5th, I emailed Ms. Sobieck a copy of the accident report completed by the police at the scene of the accident. On January 7th, I went to the Forest Grove Police Department to get a copy of the police report submitted for the accident (attached).
On or about January 6th, I was informed by Ms. Sobieck that Viking Insurance, the insurer of the other driver, had reached a decision that they would assume 85% of the liability, leaving me to cover the remaining 15% of the costs of repair. She recommended that I take the offer, and they would attempt to recover the remaining costs during arbitration. I called the adjuster for Viking Insurance, Ms. Corinne Hashenberger, to find out why they were trying to force me to accept any responsibility for the accident. She told me that they determined, based on their insured’s statement that he was doing 10 mph while merging, that I “made an insufficient effort to avoid the accident.” I told her that I had clearly told them he had accelerated quickly and there was no opportunity to avoid the accident. She maintained her assertion that I’d not made sufficient effort to avoid the accident. She expressed no concern that the speed limit was 40 mph and that attempting to merge at 10 mph would violate the Oregon Vehicle Code that requires drivers to act and a “responsible and prudent manner” as well as section 811.285 that requires vehicles to safely merge at the posted speed.
I continued to drive the vehicle as I had been doing previously. While returning from Portland on the 7th, I noticed a grinding noise coming from the front left wheel, which took the brunt of the impact. I decided that the vehicle was probably not safe to drive anymore, so I decided to take it into the shop for repairs and did so on January 8th.
On January 9th, I sent an email to Ms. Sobieck asking what recourse I had for the loss of potential income while my vehicle was in the shop for repairs. I followed up with a phone call on the 10th to talk directly with her. She again asked if I had any passengers (a question posed during my initial statement) to which I again responded that I did not. She then informed me that there may be an issue with their policy while driving as a public conveyance. I again informed her that I had NOT been doing so. I had been on a personal errand which I had decided to cancel after the accident. She let me know that she would let me know what the result of the investigation over the public conveyance was.
I received a certified letter from Esurance dated January 20th informing me that they would not cover any repairs on the vehicle until the investigation was complete. I have since provided them with the fact that it was four hours between the accident and the first public conveyance I provided.
At issue is the following statement found in my policy (appropriate section attached) section 1.F of EXCLUSIONS FOR PART I: LIABILITY COVERAGE: “For that “insured’s” liability arising out of the ownership or operation of any vehicle while it is used as a public or livery conveyance, or used to carry property for compensation or a fee. This Exclusion 1.F. applies to, but is not limited to, the delivery of magazines, newspapers, food, or any other products. However, this Exclusion 1.F. does not apply to shared-expense car pools.” This statement clearly states WHILE it is used as a public conveyance and provides, as examples, the delivery of periodicals, food and products. I interpret this to mean that I would have had to ACCEPTED a ride request and be in transit to the pickup point or have picked up a passenger for pay. Neither of these conditions were in play at the time of the accident meaning that I am needlessly being denied the use of my vehicle.
On January 25th, I stopped by Bruce Chevrolet (the repair facility currently working on the vehicle) to find out what the status of the vehicle was. I was told that in addition to the body damage that has already been repaired, they found that the left front hub (the controlling part of the suspension for the four-wheel drive) was shattered and needing to be replaced. At that time, I reminded him that there were two other issues that presented themselves immediately after the accident; the “Service Suspension System” warning indicator started coming on intermittently, and there was a new “thunking” noise coming from the rear end upon acceleration. He then informed me that after several attempts to arrange for payment for the repairs, Ms. Sobieck had told him to “cease all work on the vehicle and that the only way it would be paid for is if the other insurance company paid for it or if Eric Polson paid for it.”
It would seem to me that an adjustor has the power to make a decision based on facts and/or testimony and/or logic. In this case none have been applied. I testified as to exactly what happened from my point of view. Viking made a decision that considered neither my testimony nor facts presented in the police report and instead took the claim of the at-fault driver that neither coincide with the police report nor Oregon law regarding responsible and prudent driving practices. Esurance made a decision based on a misinterpreted policy statement and chose to ignore testimony to which an oath of truthfulness was given. Based on these comedies of errors I am left without a vehicle since my policy does not cover a rental vehicle, and Viking made no attempt or offer of assistance.

I called today to cancel with Esurance today, because another company's rate was half of theirs and they told me that they were canceling my policy, but that they would charge me extra $50, just because they could. Never did I agree to this. This is one of the sleaziest insurance companies in existence.

After seven months of paying on renters and auto insurance, I received an email from Esurance that they cannot and will not be honoring my renters insurance because my home is "manufactured" but is on a permanent foundation. Did they not listen or read when the application and original purchase of this insurance was made? I have given them 15 days to return ALL the funds they collected on this renters insurance and will be filing a complaint against them with the Ohio insurance commission. I then plan to take them to small claims court for taking money on services NOT RENDERED. I have had it with companies who do not do as they promise or state. Enough already. They have ten days left. After that, they go to court.

Esurance is a joke. Theres a reason they are FORCED to do business only online. If they had actual representatives and stores they would be shut down and/or forced out of ang decent community. Your 1st sign shouldve been the stupid commericals that have nothing to do with car insurance. When you have a silly little cartoon, or some ### voice over talking about time machines, instead of how they actually save money or offer better services...you almost have to blame yourself for falling for it...or not doing even the smallest bit of research on a company that could quite literally hold your life in their hands. Thats like buying food off of some guy on the highway, you dont know him, have no info of the food quality, and yet to save 3 bucks you risk food poisoning or worse? Heres a little hint cheap skates...its not always the best idea to save a couple dollars. I wouldnt get esurance if it was a HUGE savings. They'll tell you idiots who dont know better youre saving money...while all us smart people who either have common sense or college degrees go to farm bureau, farmers, or even geico. Next time...spend the 15 minutes you will eventually spend complaining on complaint boards...to spend the minimal amount of time researching a company BEFORE you spend a large portion of money on them...with your health and safety at risk. Im sorry to those of you who are probably good people who just got screwed by a greedy corporation...but sadly youre the type of person that keeps these scam artists in business. You hear the word "save money" and you go nuts. You wanna run to people you know and tell them what a swell deal you got...and how u saved 3 bucks a year! Only go find out when something bad happens you have "cut rate insurance"...which is so ironic because esurance actually uses this very term in some of their ads! Yet as you will attest...its true. I wouldnt blame u folks as much if it were 1930...but with access to thr internet, how could u possibly invest so much money, health/safety of both you and your family...on a company you know nothing about and didnt spend even 15 min. Researching? So...honestly...is that esurance fault...or your OWN for being cheap skates with your family's health and safety...to save a dollar or two a month? Sure I could go eat McDonald's every nite, and serve that to my kids, watch everyone in my family get fat and watch our health degrade to save myself the trouble of going shopping and cooking non-processed foods...but again in the long run...u will pay. Heres the moral of the story folks. A) do 15 min of research BEFORE betting your family's life, safety, and health on a company B) quit falling for the "we can save u money" ads that clearly are cheaper ONLY because they have ripped people off, and/or offer vastly inferior service(s) C) spend the time u eventually spend complaining, looking up information on the company u blame for your own laziness. There's a reason other countries call America the laziest nation in history.

I've been a customer of esurance for like 3 years, so I never expected to be treated this way. Whatever happened to the old adage "the customer is always right?"

Anyways, I've been thinking about switching auto insurers for a while now do to rate hikes.

My premiums kept going up, so I called a esurance agent up to complain. after telling him that I got cheaper rates (nearly twice as cheap) from autoinsuranceape.com and said I was thinking about leaving esurance, the agent THREATENED TO SUE ME if I cancelled my GEICO policy. wtf?

I thin esurance is the worst auto insurance company that I have ever dealt with and would not recommend them to my worse enemy.

Esurance They could give me BUS MONEY and be protected

An esurance customer collided into my vehicle about a month ago. I was very disappointed in Esurance’s lack of quality in regards to car rental processes. Although I didn't expect to get a vehicle that would replace mine in value, I would have expected to get something that would pay for a vehicle that didn't remind me of the 1970's, pre-automatic anything. Aside from that, I was angry that I would have to sign contracts (which they said was no responsibility of theirs) with the rental company and pay for my own deposit. After communicating my disgust about the poor process, I was told that in the State of Texas, they weren't even required to provide a car. If they so decided, they could give me BUS MONEY and be protected. So for all who are looking for a reputable auto insurance, esurance is not someone to be proud of.

That sounds like a state problem to me. Why don't you change it instead of ###?

Esurance The fine print is wretched!

Granted everyone is told to read the fine print. This is wretched.

I am selling my vehicle because I bought another and couldn't find my title. I did a Google search for the Florida DMV and this was at the top. Google is supposed to list the search results in order of the most relevant.

This site was listed first. http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/department-motor-vehicles.php?source=google

Since the suffix was ".org" I clicked on it.

While I'm searching the page for the Vehicle Title link, I find Automobile insurance. Well how handy this is, I thought.

I needed to supply proof of insurance with in 48 hours of purchase and I hadn't had time to shop.

So, you guessed it I purchased auto insurance from Esurance. What shysters. Once they got my credit card account, they were pulling money out of my account whenever they wanted without notification.

They say they emailed me, which was no true. The only email that was sent was an email with the acknowledgement of receipt of payment. That email made it.

They doubled my rates because they did a credit check and found that I had poor credit and took money out of my account without notification within 7 days. (payment wasn't due for another 21 days) They stated that people with poor credit ratings statistically have filled more claims! This is horrendous! It's Profiling and Discrimination. I am not a statistic and I haven't filed a claim in 25 years. That's like saying because all of the prison populations are 80% black and Hispanic, that if I were black or Hispanic that I'm going to commit a crime, so lock me up, now!

I went back to GEICO and will never stray again. They actually base premiums on driving records.

Esurance is charging me a 10% early cancellation fee on the higher rate, (this is not a cell phone) that I did not accept and are calculating the 10 days of coverage on the higher rate that I did not accept and canceled the policy as soon as I saw the debit of $200.00 from my account.

I called the bank and filed a complaint against the $200.00. The company refunded $224.00 on the premise that they had $414.00. My premiums were only $107.00 per month.

I'm still fighting to keep them out of my account. They are only entitled to $35.00 which is 10 days coverage. Even if they are entitled to the 10% that's only $80.00.
They can only charge me of the accepted rate, now grandfather it back to the original coverage date and extract money from that.

My point is, these people are using the reputation of the Florida State Government to sell insurance! They are wretched people. And the woman on the phone was hostile, belligerent, and threatening! I know the Florida laws and insurance requirements, I live here. I was already covered by GEICO when I called and canceled.

I don't know what else to do but make you aware of this website and their unfair practices.

Rear view mirror fell off my windshield. Esurance could not tell me if my policy covers the problem of re-calibration of mirror when re-attached. 11/2/2023

Original adjuster review missed damage to vehicle. Esurance assigned adjuster, her supervisor and the regional manager have been contacted for 3 weeks by phone and email and haven't responded in any way to address the problem. Total silence.

My daughter was involved in an accident 11/25/22 and we filed a claim right away. Claims turned it over to the total loss unit on 12/8/22 and we have heard nothing. All my phone calls and emails go unanswered. I have left at least 5 voicemails with one rep, and the other rep's calls go straight to voicemail with no option to leave a message.

Claim posted early 10/17/2022. They have been impossible to get a hold of or to communicate anything to about a claim. Took them over a week to get back to me for the initial claim to be able to even get the car to the shop for an estimate. Now no one can be reached or calls back after multiple messages left.

It's not really fine print when it's in capital letters in bold on your terms and conditions. At least it is on mine. It's pretty obvious. I suppose they could have made it red, too, but I bet it wouldn't have convinced you to read it.

Granted, the terms and conditions are long, what with all the legal wording, but it's all there, and it's very obvious.
