Equifax Information Services - unauthorized charges

I cancelled my Equifax in Dec. 2008. Since that time I have been debited every month for a product/service that I am not receiving. I have made approximately ten phone calls and spoken to two supervisors regarding these unauthorized charges. Today I was told that I had to fax three months worth of checking account statements so that Equifax could see the...

Equifax Information Services horrible customer service - billed after cancellation

Somehow I got hooked in to a subscription to an Equifax credit monitoring service. I figured I would try it for a while and see if it was useful. It wasn't. So I called in early January to cancel. I was told I would have one more bill for January and then that would be it.

So, I saw that in mid-February Equifax charged me $7.95 on my American Express card. I called the phone number given in the Amex vendor info. I was put on hold and I held and held and held. Finally AN HOUR had passed. And then someone finally answered.

It obviously was someone in an off-shore call center. I asked what I needed to do to stop my subscription because apparently it wasn't stopped. He asked if he could put me on hold. I asked why and he said he had to look at my account. Soooo, there I was on hold again!

He finally came back after about 5 minutes and said he needed to transfer me to another department. I told him NO... do not make me hold for another hour. He said oh it wouldn't be but 30 seconds. Then a second later he tells me, "We are updating our security system and need for you to call back tomorrow"!

Upon hearing that I thought I was going to have a fit... What kind of company does their "updating" at 10:30 at night when customers are calling and asks someone to call back who had already been waiting for an hour. I figured that they were just trying to make the cancellation experience so unpleasant that I would let them keep charging $7.95 to my American Express card forever.

So, I ended up calling American Express, which BTW has exceptional customer service, and a nice lady set up a chargeback for me.

So beware of starting up anything with Equifax. It is a nightmare to try to cancel it.

I am also going to file a complaint with the FTC. I canceled my service in June and they said "you have already paid for the next month so you can continue to use it." So I didn't think about it. No bill in July and I figured OK good canceled. Then in August there was the bill again! I wrote an irate email and told them to refund the money and cancel my service. They said in the email that I couldn't do that over the phone and there is no way to cancel it once you are in your account anyway. Well I am busy so I didn't get to it right away and then when I did call the guy tells me that the agent had informed me that no in fact it was a free month that I had agreed to and that I had to call and cancel again if I actually wanted to cancel the service... well that made me boil over. So I now have a confirmation number and I demanded that they take every last bit of my information out of their system. This is totally crooked practice. I know what I agreed to so I said go listen to the call again because that is not what was said. Basically, Equifax are identity thieves!

I also have had a very similar experience! I signed up just for one month with Equifax Credit Watch Gold because it's the only way Equifax will allow you to get your credit report (I was happy to pay for the one time of accessing it). I cancelled 10 days later and was charged the next month. After calling (and waiting quite a while on hold - probably about a 1/2 hour) they told me they agreed I did not owe the money but I would need to fax them my bank statment and gave me the fax #. The number was no good! I called back, waited on hold so long I finally gave up. The next month they did it AGAIN! I called back and the gal - after a long time and having to get a supervisor - finally agreed to return the 2 months they owed me and promised it would not happen again. I have yet to get my refund and while waiting for it, here we are again - they charged me this month too! They are scamming us because they think we won't continue to fight for such small amounts of money! I have filed a complaint with the FTC.

Equifax Information Services makes no effort to correct credit report

My Equifax credit reports contains completely inaccurate information including wrong social security, wrong date of birth, wrong address, over 40 credit cards that are not mine, mortgages that are not mine. I have attempted to contact Equifax for the past 8 months to have all this information corrected. The only form of contact is via postal mail. After making my case with the company via a letter, they asked me to submit documentations verifying my documentation. I have sent the company my drivers license, my U.S. passport, birth certificate, social security card, etc. I have sent the company every piece of identification documents that are available and the company has made no efforts in correcting the information. These documents were sent at least 4 times with certified mail from the U.S. Postal Office to ensure the company receives them. The only letter I have received from Equifax in response to my claim was that Equifax is not able to identify who I am.

As a result, my credit has been reduced from 750+ to 400, below sub-prime. My credit card limits have been reduced to laughable levels. My salary is well above six figures and my credit has always been maintained pristine. Currently, due to the mistakes of Equifax and inability to fix their mistakes, I cannot even get a loan for a car, let alone apply for a mortgage.

If it is possible, please help me fight Equifax. I am willing to supply any documentation necessary to further my cause and reach a solution.

Also, TransUnion and Experian (the other two major credit reporting companies) have the most update and accurate information containing my history and identity. My credit score with these two companies is above 750, so it seem it's only Equifax that has been unable to perform efficiently.

Equifax Information Services refuses to send me my report, has given my information to someone else, has no dispute line, won't correct numerous errors

My insurance company raised my insurance rates. I called to find out why. They said they had pulled a credit report and used a credit-based insurance score. They raised my premium by $120 per month. The information they based it on is erroneous.
Somehow, the credit bureaus have mixed the social security number of another consumer with my information. Neither Equifax nor Experian would give me a copy of my own credit report, despite numerous requests starting ibn January of 2008 when I found out there were mistakes on my report.
They have given my personal information to another consumer. They have claimed that I have an excess debt to income ratio based on the fact that they were mistakenly charging another consumer's home mortgage payment against my credit record. For this reason I have been charged excessive credit rates when attempting to purchase a car. In addition, they have caused my insurance premiums to be raised by $120 per month.
Despite the fact that I sent a certified letter about six weeks ago to all 3 credit reporting bureaus, only Trans Union has sent me an actual hard copy of my credit report.
Equifax has a subcontractor named CSC whose information lists MY PERSONAL information under a "formerly known as" name on another consumer's credit report.
Not a single one of the 3 bureaus has given me a telephone number where I can speak to an actual human being to explain and have even an opportunity to begin to correct thesde errors.

Equifax single handedly destroyed my wifes and my ability to get a homeloan and take advantage of the 8, 000 first time buyer rebate. They have me owing 8, 000 to Greentree Finacial. It was paid off in full almost eigth years ago. I have contacted & received a letter of payment in full & the promise they would correct the problem with Equifax. I tryed 8 months later still not gone! Greentree claims they reported the change. Equifax has my wifes school loan reporting repeatedly four times two diffrent balances for the same account number. These are the only negative things on our report outside a few hundred in doctor bills & it is only on the Equifax report! So if its everyone elses job and equifax doesnt want to except any responsibility for keeping accurate or even semi accurate records the entire Equifax report should be disregarded. The company has focused way to much in marketing their own products holding consumers economicly hostage. This is a huge concern & a conflict of interest. I can not believe any company with the record this company has with the Federal Trade Commission the number of complaints still holds this kind of power or is still even in bussiness. If anyone happens to know the Equifax's live customer service number please email it to 0midnightrider0@gmail.com Im not getting ripped off by their machine over and over again. Thank you I appriciate any help.

One thing that people are not understanding about Equifax, they are a CRA. They do not request your info from the various accounts that you hold. It is the various companies job to report to Equifax, that is what makes up your credit file is what companies report to them. You people act like Equifax is just making up things to put in your credit file, and that is not the case. Example :If whatever company you hold an account with reports that you have a negative account with them, then that is what is on your credit file. It is those account issuers jobs to say what goes on or comes off your credit file, not Equifax's. As far as any charges you may be issued, when you signed up for a certain product that may have been a free trial, it is your responsibility to cancel before you are charged to cancel not Equifax. My suggestion is read all the print in terms of use before you decide to purchase their products. Also if whatever company signs you up to receive a product for free for a year or two, and you call to sign up, it will auto renew you for whatever year it is up. So if you do not want to be charged, it is also you responsibility to check on that.

Very true. Equifax does deny people their civil rights, as well as the other two players.

If you sent something certified, return receipt and they still refuse to comply, Send evidence to the FTC for a formal record. Unfortunately the Federal Trade Commission is merely a data warehouse sotring information. They are not going to help you get anywhere with them.

What you need to do is contact a local assemblyman/senator and see if they will assist you in getting copies of the reports.

The credit bureaus count on folks not being in a position to afford legal retainers. The existing laws are not enforced, unless you have the money to enforce them.

The good news is, I started googling the CEO of each credit reporting agency and I got phone numbers and email addresses. After 6 years of battling the same garbage, I am finally making headway.

Through participation in forums like this, I have local government support and was introduced to a lawyer who said she would initiate action on contingency. But this took so many years of battling and so much loss (in excess of $200, 000 when you count the property I couldn't buy out the business partner on because they refused to do their job). I lost a job, I lost educational opportunity, My integrity was called into question, therefore, severence denied when I was layed off. The ongoing damages of being considered uninsurable, constant embarassment by employer investigations (who by the way, reviewed my claim and investigated with the original creditors also finding The three CRA's at fault) and so much more.

It's just really tiring and I would love to organize a non-profit some day soon to specifcally to help people that have been unfairly victimized by the CRA's incompetance and sloppy recordkeeping. There needs to be someone who can get the laws enforced that are already in place.

I am trying to get ahold of someone with Equifax as they are taking money from my account and not providing a service. I did not read that in the fine print. Bet Equifax is making millions taking 14 dollars from every Canadian person and not even providing the service. If no resolution for my dispute I will gather a petitions and move legal actions against them with a group of people to back this up.

I have not even been able to cancel by phone! Equifax is demanding that I send them various documents first. I sent the documents and now they claim they never received them. Despite repeated phone calls and e-mails they still will not cancel the account I opened. I do not recommend doing business of any kind with them.

I really like their Score watch product but really dislike how you have to call in to cancel.

I just called to cancel, went thru the menu and got to a person within 5 minutes. When I said I would like to cancel I got placed back on hold for another 10 minutes.

That's dirty business practices Equifax uses.

They do not allow to cancel the product online. After I called and canceled the trial (25 min total time on phone), I've found that it was still there the next day if I logon to my account.

I had to call again and kindly ask them to cancel it again (20 mins more). Then rep said I will receive an email confirmation of the cancellation. Of course there was no email, but logging to my account stopped working ("website problems"). This time I emailed my request to support.

Finally, today (3rd day) I can logon back in my account and see that the product subscription is gone. I better make a screenshot of it just in case (with todays date and time visible). You never know what to expect after all of this.

Equifax Information Services is a fraud!

If Equifax is obligated to remove or correct an adverse item on your credit report (ie, you paid off the balance in full), but refuses to correct it, you cannot even file a dispute with them unless you buy one of their products. For example, if you have already gotten your free annual credit report and something else pops up that is incorrect, if you want to dispute it you must have a "confirmation number". The only way you can get a confirmation number is to order a copy of your credit report, for a price. Believe me they know what they're doing. Even if it's not your fault you can't even talk to someone unless you order their product (credit report) in order to find a 800 number to call to dispute- you can't call unless you have the number - can't get the number 'till you buy the report.

Equifax compromised my information when they were hacked several years ago-they offered free
Cridit protection an freeze-everytime I want to unfreeze it takes over an hour between thier shoody website which I submit user name and password coutless times to no avail than their phone number that takes you through a series of automated questions than disconnects you and it literally too 45 minutes to speak to someone-the way this company acts-oh did I say my information was hacked from thier security breach-is not only disgraceful but should be investigated by federal and state agencies who monitor these companies-I had no problem with experian & transunion but do not pay for any services from equifax - again they have failed repeatedly over the two years I have been dealing with them-
This is how bad equifax is - although they notified me montioring is free for 5 years becuase of infor breach dealing with them with such a unresponsible, half-assed website and poor phone and internet service as well as taking almost two hours every time I want them to unblock I am opting for paying a credit montoring service research so far has me looking into 'idenity guard
Next e-mail is to nys attorney general office-
And all this was cause once again by thier breached computer system and exposed my information and millions of others to possible identity theft!

Do not pay or sign up with equifax beleive me it wil save you alot of aggravation!

Marketing for equifax's new scam. they have been hacked and now want to protect your vital info for a free...? I think they want you to sign up for the "free" credit protection with their so called "partner" trustedid premier. my first question would be how long is this complementary service good for? it doesn't say! this has happened in the past and credit protection was offered for 5 years then the hook is set.
Read their comments carefully and you will see this is a marketing campaind for trustedid premier.
"this incident potentially impacts approximately 143 million u.s. consumers / we have found no evidence of unauthorized activity on equifax’s core consumer or commercial credit reporting databases. to enroll and activate your complimentary identity theft protection we ask for your cooperation in adhering to this process so that we can enroll all consumers who sign up as quickly as possible."

these people put a "freeze" on my debit card and a limit of $8k. When I used my debit for $8150 to help pay for a new car the finance dept. found the freeze. My account has almost $60k in it...who are these creeps and how can they freeze my checking account!? Oh yeah. I called them and after about 40 minutes of phone tag, I finally got a HUMAN to talk to...well in pigeon anyway...he kept asking the most bizarre "security" questions, like who financed my house 30years ago and what were the payments...(its been paid off for 16 yrs) wanted my checking account number to "verify", but refused to just answer the question of the reason for the freeze...and WHY there was a freeze on my account in the first place. I am convinced this is a scam...most of his question were entirely inappropriate especially when I had such a simple question.
Meanwhile the car dealer worked around the problem.

keep getting calls from [protected] claim to be from equifax for employment verification I asked for verification to be sent to me;. none came. callers were clearly not in the US one said he was from Costa Rica. Asked another another for thier supervisor was put on hold and never coma back on phone. If this is actually equifax then they are contributing to the problem as this is waht I would expect from someone trying to scan me or my employees. I need an independent way to verify callers from equifax, need to be able to call equifax directily if they want to get information from me. They will also need a signed statement form employees allowing them to get me to give them information.

The Equifax online site is full of **** I was subscribed to this service for two years Last November I cancelled the subscritions I had because some of the services I was paying for were not accessible by my or active. I did not feel that it was right to continue to take my money for services that I was not receiving. After canceling these services, charges appeared in Decembert on my account for the services that I had cancelled. I called and the charges were refunded within about a week. Then January rolls around, and they charged my account again for the same cancelled services. When I called again they were very adimate about how I hadn't cancelled, and then saying that there was no record that I cancelled my services, but when I told them yes I did, you are not looking at my call history on the account, you can't be, because if you were you would see that I was refunded for non-authorized charges last month, then they oh I see it now...we are going to escalate this matter to the accouting dept...well two days later a refund appeared on my account, but it was not the full amount, so I called again and was told the same mess and that it should be back in my bank account in less than a week, but we need to get your card number, in order to place it back on your card, because you had us to delete your card information when you last called. I told them yes I did, so that I would not have to go through this again with charges on my account. I also stated that why did the one of the charges come back and not all of it, she couldn't answer that but needed my card information to send the ticket to the service dept...Well here it is 02/02/09 and still no refunded charges so I call again and I am told the same thing, but she doesn't ask for my card information, just that she will send the information to the services department, but we need a statement faxed to us showing these charges, (are you kidding me), I told this lady if you are looking at my account profile you will see that this has already been verified and the same thing you are telling me the last person told me, and nothing has been or is getting resolved. Well Ma'am she says, give it a 3 days and if we haven't contacted you or if the refund hasnt been credited call us back.

Once again are you kidding me. So before I hung up, I told her that this was "rediculous and uncalled for, and that I was tired of calling about the same thing, being told the same thing, but nothing happening and what I think I should do is a file a complaint with FTC and the Attorney General, you have a nice day, " and all she could say was o.k. ma'am, you too.

The free credit report IS NOT FREE. By selecting yes to the free 30 day trial, in small print, Equifax then bills every month until you cancel the charges. IT took several months to find the # to cancel the charges. Then tried to speak to management and was disconnected. Thanks for scamming me out of $129.50.

Equifax was written a simple question about an entry on my credit report. No answer came, so it was sent twice more. Imagine my shock when a useless piece of paper arrived addressed to AUDREY DEFFART, AUDREY DE FART, etc. I immediately wrote to the CEO David Rubinger that that practice was to stop.
One envelope arrived addressed to DAVID RUBINGER and another to my address to VICTORIA RUBINGER. Very strange, indeed!
I filed a complaint with the FTC and they did nothing, stating that they only file the complaints away until there are many complaints. Are they waiting for 10, 000 complaints to arrive?
I then filed a complaint on August 13, 2009 with Senator Dianne Feinstein who is supposed to investigate such matters as the FTC is a federal agency. Never heard a word and the young people she hired to answer phones are out to lunch. They didn't know anything and didn't want to do anything. I filed the complaint again and have never heard a word.
I sent a complaint to the BBB in Atlanta only to find later that they sent my complaint to Colton, California's BBB. Imagine my shock again when I received acknowledgements from both BBB's addressed not to Audrey DeHart but to Audrey De Fart. If I had ever done that in my job, I would have been fired for being so stupid as to not look at the name signed to the letter but look at the copies of the evidence submitted which were copies of the letters sent with my name distorted and which was deliberate.
One BBB did send a letter to Equifax with the name of Audrey Def Fart as the complainiant. Equifax sent me a letter again addressed properly but stating that they could not find Audrey Def Fart in their system. Duh! I was to furnish them credit information on this non-existent person.
I wrote a steaming hot letter to both the BBB's. They did correct my name.
A reply from Equifax to the BBB stated that the computer made the mistakes. Hot diggity! I must have an exceptional computer as it only does what I ask it to do.
Someone at Equifax had to go into their data system and program a distortion on my name (in Caps no less) and also put in the names David Rubinger and probably his wife Victoria Rubinger. What idiocy? Committed by a CEO no less.
I am 81 years old and when a young person tries to tell me that the computer made the mistake I want to punch them in the nose. If anyone in business had a computer that runs amuck, they should immediately call 911 asking for help.
Equifax has never apologized for what they did which was totally unwarranted, thus, my herein complaint. I've seen a lot in my lifetime and if someone else told me the above story, I might suggest that they check into Rehab forthwith. The amazing thing is that credit bureaus think they are gods and can ruin you as they have the power to do so. As long as the FTC protects them, nothing will be done for the consumer. They can reduce your credit score with no explanation and you will never find ou the combination for their doing so.

Warning!

I signed up for the annual subscription to Equifax's Gold Credit Reporting Monitoring Program for about $130 (annually). They sent lots of emails and it was nice to have, but after a year, I decided it was not something I was interested in renewing.

When the emails reminding me to renew came flooding my in-box, I ignored them. They were asking me to renew, so I thought, don't respond and it won't renew. WRONG. They automatically renewed me based on the card I used to subscribe.

When I called about this, I was placed on hold for very long periods of time, only to be told that it was too late to cancel once they already received their money. I didn't like it, but what could I do?

The next year came around and so did the reminder emails. This time I contacted them numerous times because the reminders just kept coming. I was placed on eternal hold EACH time and given the run around. They also spent a long time trying to talk me out of canceling the service. Talk about building a doom and gloom story of identity theft and hazards that I would be subjecting myself to by not having this feature. Sheesh! Each time, they said, they had no record of my previous calls to cancel.

They hit me again with their annual fee.

I called my credit card comapny and told them it was a fraudulent charge and they had me send a written explanation. After about 90 days, my credit card responded that Equifax refused to refund the money.

To say that I was unhappy would be a severe understatement. The very people / agency that was claiming to protect consumers from fraud was scamming me.

The next renewal year came and the card they had on file expired. (drum roll) They began sending me the email notices to renew, but my card was expired and to contact them with updated card info so I wouldn't miss out on this great service. Not only was the card expired, but I canceled it. Wasn't going to take any chances this time.

They had the audacity to call me letting me know that their attempt to renew the membership failed and they needed updated card information. I explained that I did not want to renew this service and was transferred and placed on hold. I hung up.

They called again. Same thing.

They finally quit calling, but the email notices keep coming. I have them blocked and going straight to junk mail now. The turds!

Good luck to anyone trying to get out of this service. What a circus!

I obtain my free annual report each year since authorized by law and bought them every couple of years prior to the law being passed. Since the authorized free reports, Equifax makes it nearly impossible to obtain online, and if you call the number they provide, you get individuals with heavy foreign accents, thus ensuring you will unlikely receive the information and if you are lucky enough to do so, it will be months! As I keep all these reports, I make notes once printed out to ensure I use the correct password, etc., even though I have never had any problems receiving the reports online from either Experian or Transunion. Amazingly, as I yet again attempted to sign on, once the individual verified all my security questions and pertinent info, they assured me that they had remedied the problem and my information was NOW available for me to view online. I tried as they suddenly became more accurate with their speech, and wow - AGAIN I was blocked from receiving the information as it still says that it is NOT available online. EQUIFAX must outsource all the jobs to foreign countries while denying us access to the reports and bombarding us with a sales pitch to pay for credit scores by telling us that only their score is worth anything and that the ones provided by our financial institutions are worthless. If Eperian and Transunion can make it work, what kind of scam is EQUIFAX pulling on US citizens by denying us the annual free credit reports? It is time to get some of our elected officials involved to find out what is going on.

Equifax took forever to give me my report after I applied for my free credit report and then did not consider my disputing several claims that I asked to see proof about. They also refused to give me information about claims that someone had used my information to get a mortgage and a car loan.

Maybe you should summon your parents in the United States and your wife's parent's in Russia along with a ambassador and give testimony that you say who you are than maybe the ambassador can go back to Russia and complete a thorough investigation into their activities.
