Enhanced Recovery Corporation / Harassing people and extorting them for money!

1 United States Review updated:

These guys called me and left a message with one of my children claiming that they were returning my call (untrue) and needed to speak with me right away about some information I had requested (untrue). I called and spoke with a gentleman who claimed I owed over $600 to a company called Performance Auto and now Genesis Financial, neither of whom I have ever heard of. The guy at ERC claimed that I bought some motorcycle parts from these guys. I do not have a motorcycle and do not do my own auto repairs. The guy at ERC called in a supervisor. The supervisor could not have been ruder. He tells me to go look on my credit report or pay up. I offered to call Performance Auto or Genesis Financial to find out what this “charge” was but the supervisor told me that he would not give me their contact info and would not find out what the charges were for. He told me to pay or look on my credit report. So I checked all three of my credit reports and they all matched up. There were no accounts that were late or had any issues. I called ERC back and again was put in touch with a different, but just as rude, supervisor. I explained that I am interested in resolving this issue but that I was not going to pay ERC unless I knew what the charges were for. The supervisor old me that I could either pay the amount owed or they would continue to call my home until I did pay. It sounded like a sweat shop in the background with all kinds of people in three foot cubicles harassing people and extorting them for money. These guys are unbelievable and are the reason the collections industry has such a poor name.

Check this out, you are what is termed in our business as a multiple (someone as the same name a the actual debtor). Get off your high horse no one owes you anything except maybe a "wrong number" reply.

Sweat shop? Not actually we are paid well we have 401K's, full health + dental, life insurance etc.

I <3 the remark "These guys are unbelievable and are the reason the collections industry has such a poor name."

You have no clue what the industry is like. Why do we think every other person is lying? Because the other person we talked to is!!

Wanna know the real reason why collections has a bad rap? Because loosers dont like being called loosers. We actually reserve our comments, despite the lack of courtesy most people demonstrate.

One thing people forget when remarking about collections. We are NOT a customer service based operation. We were hired because the debtor failed to uphold a promise, that is to pay a bill on time. Mind you by the time it gets to collections. Several options were offered, none were sought.

I'd be willing to bet your a debtor w/ multiple calls on current charge off's that appear on your credit hist.

    :P

Erc has also continued to call my home using an automatic dialer in an attempt to reach a third party who does have bad debts. However, that party has never set foot onto my property, much less lived here. I know whom she is but I am not required to search for her unlisted telephone number and give it to them.

I have been listed on the Federal Trade Commission's Do Not Call List since its beginning, as well as Alabama's Do Not Call list before that time. I do resent their continued criminal harassment and have contacted the Florida Attorney General's Office in an attempt to stop their calls. If that does not work, I'll be filing both civil and criminal complaints with my local district attorney ( I have had success both times I have done this in the past - but it does take time).

No one is, as is usual for debt collectors, lying. The company is, to the best of my knowledge, in clear violation of the FDCPA. Find a consumer protection lawyer and sue them.

It's up to them to prove you're the person who owes the money. It is comforting to know that they have 401k accounts based on the money they extract from innocent bystanders.

Me, I'd rather be on welfare; that's at least an honest way to not earn a living.

Thinking about hiring a debt collection company? I would avoid Enhanced Recovery Corporation like the plague. Although I have never been late on a debt, I received calls from this company daily for weeks. It was just an automated dialer. It didn't matter if I answered the phone, or called back the number they left, they never answered the phone. I left multiple messages for them, but never reached a human, even when I called a different number I found on their website. They never said who they were trying to reach at my number or why they were calling. Now, as someone trying to collect a debt, why would you hire a company too understaffed to talk to the people they are trying to collect from? Not to mention they were calling the wrong number the whole time. The only way I was able to reach a human to make them realize they had the wrong number was by using whois to find a number associated with the registration of their domain name. Otherwise they would have! called my number forever and never collected the debt they are charging you to recover. Do they expect the people who owe money to go to such extreme and creative methods to find them? This company is incompetent, understaffed, and just plain evil.

If you're Not The Guy, call them up and say you are the guy, and that you are ready to come clean, pay up and be done with it. Just give them the account number they left on the answering machine for you. Then play footsies back and forth until you get the name, address of The Guy, or some identifier, and what the payment is for. The you simply call or sue THEIR CLIENT(S). I have done this before and it worked fine, because they feel so arrogant in their vaunted skip-trace BS techniques and methodology, hide behind dead end addresses and trick phone numbers. By the way Anytime you call an 800 number, they can see your phone number , who you are. If you want to find them, just pay an internet service to locate their actual addresses, real names, corporate, etc. It's not hard. I'm Nick Bleeker, SS Trooper, Ret. , http://www.brotherhoodsofdeath.com , they know about me from Frisco to Halifax.

On February 1, 2007 I got a new telephone number that is unlisted and unpublished. Within a week a company called ENHANCED RECOVERY CORPORATION began calling on a daily basis, sometimes 2-3 times a day. (now going on the third week)

    The message was as follows:

This message is for Laura Nona, if you are not this person hang up or delete this message. this is Linda from Enhanced Recovery Corporation call us at 1-800-657-0082 and give reference number 6053658.

I called the company and explained I do not know this person and just got this phone number on February 1, 2007 and by Wisconsin state Law do not call me again and I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST. The company keeps calling me everyday.

Every so often I get a call from these people saying that they are looking to secure a payment plan with me for a credit card that I closed awhile back. We had financial hardship after the birth of our twins and I made a payment arrangement with them of $40 a month. I send $20 every other Thursday... how much more of a "secure payment plan" do they need?

Yesterday I got a call again and "Darlene" stated that I was sending my payment to the wrong address...apparently somewhere along the way, they were assigned to my account and the address changed. I didn't realize this since I have my payments automatically sent every 2 weeks from BillPay. So, once that was straightened out she proceded to start the "secure payment plan" conversation and indicated that the company is now calling for the balance in full. Since my last bill was $50 (it went up for some reason), I knew this was the 1st lie in the pecking order. I told her that I planned to do the same as I have been every 2 weeks and that I wasn't sure what they were looking for or what they planned to do....a judge would see that I am paying every 2 weeks and would wonder why we were there wasting the court's time. She put me on hold and I was then blessed with Mr. "James Curtis".

Mr. "Curtis" began to threaten me and said that he has $500= of my money and he will just do what he has to do. I was very nice and was trying to question what was going on and why the sudden change and why I was being treated this way since I pay every 2 weeks.

I contacted the credit card company that hired ERC and confirmed that Mr. "Curtis" was lying and they agreed that his behavior was uncalled for. The "contract" that I supposedly signed didn't exist (as I told Mr. "Curtis").

By the end of the day "Darlene" called me again and wanted to know if I wanted to take advantage of of Mr. "Curtis'" threats (the "settlement") and I told her that I was all set....all I need now if the transcripts from my conversation with Mr. "Curtis". The threats and "settlement" was not being considered at this point and I hope that any future calls can be more positive in nature.

I will be calling them back today to take this further.

ERC has somehow gotten my phone number and think I am a Leslie Holmes. My name is Lisa and my last name is not Holmes. I do not know a Leslie Holmes. I told them months ago they have the wrong number and to stop calling, joined the national DNCL. Today, after a stressful trip back home from being out of town, exhausted and hungry, I arrive to 7 messages today alone from ERC. I just off the phone with them again telling them they have the wrong number... I have perfect credit and am not used to this harassment. I just filed a complaint online with the Florida CA. I hope they help. Why can this company not be stopped? They are depleting my quality of life, causing stress, harassing me for no legal reason. Leslie Holmes, pay your darn bill!

I just got off the phone with these POS. First of all they wouldn't tell me who they were. They accused me of yelling at them asking who they were. The girl who officially called got a man on the phone to talk to me. He finally told me he was ERC. Then he wanted me to IMMEDIATELY electronically wire him the money that is owed. I said no that it's my husband's account and I am NOT giving him money over the phone. He then said that I was refusing to pay him.

He was very unprofessional and rude to me.

For the idiot who claims to be a debt collector and defends these slugs doing slug work for major banks ---- lOser is how you spell what YOU are ###, not "looser"... and YOU'RE is correct in your usage, not "YOUR" - you nincompoop....are you just stupid or is English YOUR second language? btw ... YOUR industry who really - really - really are BEGGING to be regulated with over fees, and high interest rates (Congress really needs to hear from us to STOP these slugs from doing things like escalating interest rate clauses and linking higher rates to accounts that have NOTHING to do with them... They won’t let YOU reduce rates; they should not be able to increase yours. They issue you a card account with a rated BASED ON THEIR EVALUATION OF THEIR RISK. THEIR RISK. Not some other account. Do they EVER reduce it - NO, of course not. Credit firms are filthier than Congress and Lawyers and deserve every disparaging word they get. Look at how they screwed the markets and everyone else tied to mortgages... they took the fees KNOWING FULL well those mortgages were JUNK. I hope they all get bought up by China and Middle Eastern companies. ... let them ship all the slug jobs out of the USA.

You people on here are acting like the debt collectors are doing a crime because they were hired to do a job. If you read the contract it clearly states the terms and conditions and also the consequences of not fulfilling it. The do not call list does not apply to collections thats for sales and solicitations and besides all you have to do is call them and tell them to take the # out they dont want to call the wrong # their job is to collect money not deal with irate third parties. Basically all im saying is the majority of people have a misconception about debt collectors. I was very pleased with the options i was granted to pay back by bill that i neglected.

I think it's hilarious that the first comment is from someone in the debt collection industry and that he/she has written a comment that is illustrative of how combative and belligerent these people are.

I am getting tons of rude phone calls and trying to get a statement from these idiots suposedly about some debt. I have no idea what debt they are talking about and want at least to take a look at the copy of statement where I can see the prove with my own eyes. Still cannot get the statement and find out what they are talking about. Total mystery! Only phone calls and general letters with requirements to pay money to them. It's just unreal! Can't comprehend why is it legal in USA to harass people like that? Anybody can tell me???

I spoke to ERC today and they were very rude, and demanded post-dated checks for payment. I declined, since I know that that is an illegal practice. I refused to give them any information, requested that they contact us only in writing from now on and will conduct any future dealings with them writing. I was yelled at by some supervisor who insisted he was "only trying to help", and I insisted that he was NOT attempting to do any such thing.

He actually hung up on me, after I requested (again) to only be contacted in writing.

I will request (in writing) after they send us something in writing asking for them to verify the debt, copies of both phone call transcripts, etc.

For some great reading material, try this:

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf

It's not legal for them to conduct themselves in this manner. The best thing to do is ask for everything in writing and acknowledge nothing, I think.

    You have rights!

I think I should start off by addressing the post by Peter Seebach, who claims "Me, I'd rather be on welfare; that's at least an honest way to not earn a living." Sure, I find the reasoning behind that! Why NOT live off the government, since you seem to already be such a successful Professional Debtor. And I LOVED the reference to James Curtis, one of the kindest and most patient GM's I've ever had. He is a wonderful man who will sit on the phone with a debtor for much longer than allowed, trying to negotiate settlements for card holders. Let me repeat: SETTLEMENTS. That word means, all that money that you took from a company and promised to pay back? We're going to let you get away with not paying all of it!

Mark Wiggins says that "YOUR industry who really - really - really are BEGGING to be regulated with over fees, and high interest rates (Congress really needs to hear from us to STOP these slugs from doing things like escalating interest rate clauses and linking higher rates to accounts that have NOTHING to do with them"

Just to clarify, those interest rates that you seem to be so pitifully irate about? Yep, the same ones you agreed to when you signed on the dotted line, provided by the Credit Card company of your choice, NOT ERC. What is really funny is that all of these comments, submitted by debtors, are more words than I have heard from you people than in my ENTIRE time as Bill Collector. Instead of being cooperative and this talkative on the phone with us at ERC at the time of the call, you prefer to be what we call "Telephone Tough Guys" then run and whine to a site constructed to coddle debtors like yourself. Here's an idea, and call me crazy, but pay your bills like the rest of society! Perhaps you can avoid this "terribly unfortunate ordeal" that you seem to be going through.

Just a question: Were your parents debtors? Is that where you learn this behavior? I'm just wondering what it is that has convinced you that operating your finances this way was acceptable. Will your children be debtors as well? Will you still be so proud of them? As a mother, I know what it's like to fear the teaching of your bad habits to your little ones. I would not want my son to smoke like I do. I would not want him to be an idiot with his money, like you are. It seems such a vicious cycle, and this page is just a mirror of our society, and how irresponsible you have become. Seems you need to learn the value of a dollar.

I too have been the recipient of ERC calls. They have been told..including the supervisor that "Corrine" doesnt live here..never has lived here and we've never known anyone in our entire lives with that name. We paid cash for our house and our cars..we owe nothing to anyone and have a credit score at the top of perfect. Every morning at 8:05 they call anyway. So I decided that we'd have a little fun... this is currently on going. We told them "Corrine" doesnt want to talk to them. We've refused to take a message. Last call we told them "Corrine" got a really good deal so she and a couple girlfriends went to the Bahamas for a week. When they call back in a couple of days, they will be told she couldnt get a flight into Miami and went to Orlando instead and decided to spend a couple extra days there and see DisneyWorld but has to be home by (date to be determined) to pick up her new car. Not my fault they are stupid after we've given them our name...address and obviously they have our phone number. Have yet to speak to anyone from ERC that isnt as dumb as a box of rocks!

This is to the "BILL COLLECTOR" that previously posted about not wanting to transfer bad habits to their children. First off, bad money management is not hereditary, and second, niether is smoking. I do understand that you are just doing a job like everyone else has to do. But i fail to see why you think that I owe you a dime? I signed a contract with company X, i had a hardship, yes like most of these people who let their bills slip. I know, I know it is hard for you to believe because society is just a matter of the NOW and not what happened in the past, you have blindfolds on, and think that because you have a job, that everyone you are calling has a job or is in the position to pay. So anyway, i failed to meet company X's contract and defualted. Company X then tries to send a few letters to collect to no avail. Then they put that debt in a portfolio of debts, and sell it to the highest bidder. The average debt is bought for 5.4 cents on the dollar. In my opinion, company X has charged off this debt, and has considered it uncollectable. They get a tax right off, and collect some money back from Company Y. ( debt collectors). Now, this is my issue. You think that you are now entitled to the full amount that i owed to company X, which you only paid 5.4 cents on the dollar for. So let's say i owe the original creditor 400.00, you paid 74 dollars for that debt on the assumption of the average. That would mean you got a profit of 326.00. I will pay you what you paid for it, plus applicable interest since the date you started to collect. That means from the time the first call you placed to me, regardless if i answered the phone or not. Which i think is being more then fair. In my state, you can only collect 6% interest.
It is debt collectors like you, who think you are better then the rest. It is collectors like you, who don't see the full scheme. It is debt collectors like you, that have no ability to see what is really going on, because you only want to see your paycheck. You probably think it is ok for big comapnies to profit from the war in Iraq, Now that i think about it, You're probably a republican! The debt collection industry is set up to collect as much debt as possible. The industry has gone to great lengths to teach the collector how to collect a debt. One of those techniques is to disassociate yourself from there problems. There teachings help shape and mold people who don't care, and only think about getting the money by whatever means necessary. The problem with society is people like you. Everyone is only looking out for themselves, and screw the others. Now i am looking out for myself and screw you. Sorry if you can't understand that, sorry if you don't except that. But that's as true as the debt i owe. If i can pay what i owe i would. But the problem with collectors is, they think everyone just decided to get a loan, Credit Card, or any other type of debt that was sent to the comaany and not pay it. You automatically assume that they did it on purpose to get something for nothing. You probably think that EVERY person who owes child support did it on purpose.

Your post clearly shows a one sided point of veiw on which no basic facts are presented. It's all assumptions. And, glad to see that you smoke around your children, and teach them that smoking is ok. I am also proud that you teach them to manage there money well, because they are going to need it for all of the hospital bills and chemo therapy from smoking like you do.!!!

People who don't pay bills should be put in bonded servitude until they pay off their debt. Bet that would fix some stuff.
