I signed my grandson up for karate classes in September 2007. His family moved 135 miles away in May 2008. I contacted the karate school Ernie Reyes' World Martial Arts and soon thereafter Educational Funding Company. Here is where the nightmare begins. I sent EFC a letter from the principal of the school where my grandson would be attending in June 2008. EFC continued to bill my credit card for the monthly amount. In September 2008 I put this in dispute with my credit card and sent them all the documentation that I had sent EFC. They refused EFC the October monthly payment. Now EFC is sending me notices of "First Late Notice" I have suffered all kinds of undue distress and anguish over this situation. I strongly recommend that you do not sign up for "karate " lessons with Ernie Reyes' World Martial Arts and DO NOT sign a Tuition contract with Educational Funding Company. What a nightmare this has been. You cannot cancel this contract as stated in the contract. BUYER BEWARE!

This is the most unprofessional company I have ever come in contact with. I have cancelled my daughter's karate lessons through all proper channels by sending written notifcation to the school as well as the contacting the company asking them to stop billing me. After months of calls, messages, and promises that they would stop billing me I continue to receive bills. I had to have my bank stop them from withdrawing money from my account and then I receive a bill for $1, 400. This company is nothing but a bunch of theives and scammers. Please contact me if anyone intends on suing. I see they have ripped off many poeple. I am going to file a complaint with the better business bureau and the department. I'm also posting this complaint string to my facebook page to warn others about this company. I will NEVER put my daughter in karate with a school that does business with this so called "company".

I live in Philadelphia, PA and i have to deal with EFC now. I looked into learning Jiu-Jitsu here in phila with JOE Diamond's Karate. I spoke to Mr. Diamond directly and was told I could take a free introductory class to see if i liked it and if it was for me. I took the free class and after the class Mr. Diamond asked " can you fill out this contact information sheet for me" I started to fill it out and noticed that the sheet wanted credit card info. I wasn't sure i wanted the 100.00 a month for 12 months if i didnt like the class, so i didn't put any banking info on the info sheet
and told JOE Diamond i have to think about it. Now EFC is sending me DELINQUANT notices
and demanding that i pay for classes that i havn't even taken. if any one starts legal action against EFC count me in.

Dear Smugraduate,

The Account Executive who handled this case erred in judgment by allowing the school to contest the medical documentation. It is EFC's responsibility to determine the validity of the medical documentation. EFC reverses its position and this account is closed for future billing. The contract office has taken corrective measures internally to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Thanks.

We are living this EFC nightmare currently in Frisco, TX with USA Martial Arts. My son developed a contagious skin condition -- the instructors where some of the first to notice it, so I was appreciative when they expressed their concern (when he grappled his neck got very, very red and irritated). They explained that he could not return until we had a diagnosis or it cleared up. I am a nurse / attorney, so I completely agreed with that assessment and sought a dermatologist immediately. He was diagnosed with molluscom contagiosum which is a viral condition, it is self limiting and can take up to 9 - 12 months to fully resolve. The instructor at USA said to simply have is doctor relay this to EFS and request that they cancel the agreement. I had not been unhappy with the instruction (up to that point) and felt sure that once his condition resolved we would return. NOT ANYMORE! EFS continues to ding my account stating that their "legal department" reviewed our letter and unless my son's is "permanently disabled" by the condition the contract was binding. CAN YOU SAY MISREPRESENTATION? CAN YOU SAY DTPA? CAN YOU SAY DECEPTION? I was blown away. I asked to speak with their general counsel or an attorney on staff...his reply: "our attorneys communicate only in writing, they do not speak to clients or students..." WTF? ARe you kidding me? I work in general counsels office for a large company -- you ALWAYS talk to your clients. Guess what...they have no "legal department". My assessment is that any dojo that does business with this billing group EFS, is equally culpable in violating consumer's rights and I intend to pursue it at every angle including the attorney general's office.

We should file a class action suit against them. I was hung up on, left on hold, my credit card was charged after my contract was up, etc, etc. Report your complaint to the Federal trade commission on their website. I am very interested in participating in a class action suit against them as I feel they are conducting blatant theft.

I know this is true, I've relocated also and I didn't renew my contract but I was told that because the school is a
Black-Belt school that I will be billed according to the time it would take for him to reach that level. So I just
closed my son account. But knowing what I know now it is unlawful to enter into a contract with a minor and
we live in a small town close to Greenville N.C. It should be against the law!
