Dynowatt / Rates, Customer Service

1 TX, United States

We were Dynowatt customers for quite a while. We swtiched to Dynowatt after Gexa doubled their rate without notice. More comically, Gexas skipped sending out the first bill after the huge rate increase! I wasn't the only one.

So last summer (2008) our kWh price for electricity doubled. I had the online account set up, but couldn't access it to pay the final bill. When you end service, they cut you off completely.
The bill got buried, and apparently Dynowatt farmed it out to a collection agency. I haven't heard anything from the collection agency though. It' just showed up on my credit report.
So I called Dynowatt today (3/17/9) and paid the account in full. I asked the rep to send me a letter about the account being paid, and he refused. He said that I'd have to contact the collection agency. His supervisor confirmed that Dynowatt was either unable or unwilling to send out a payment confirmation letter.
So I emailed customer service (see email below.) I figured they'd be in front of a computer and be able to confirm payment and include it in the reply. Silly me. Kim said that I'd have to contact the collection agency, and that there was really no other option.
Will definitely never do business with this company again.

Howdy:
Ah, not so. Not only am I under no obligation to deal with a debt collector, I can actively refuse to. As long as the debt is still owned by Dynowatt, you have no choice but to service the account. And, I'm going to stand on that right and require Dynowatt to act responsibly.
Of course, if Dynowatt no longer owns the debt, then it shouldn't have taken my payment earlier. Doing so on a debt no longer owned would be fraud.
Since my account still exists in the Dynowatt system, then sending a letter with the current status of the account should be an easy matter.
I left Dynowatt because of rates doubling last summer. The level of customer support will prevent me from ever doing business with you again.
Please send me an email contact for Mr. Schneier's office.
Thanx.

No. I'm your customer. Unreasonable as it may seem, I expect service from Dynowatt ... not a third party.
Maybe you can explain what exactly is so difficult about my request.
