On July 31st 2001, I registered healingtv.org domain name with the intent to promote the word of God online.
I used Doteasy Technologies Inc. Because they offered a hosting registration for one price. During that time I registered many domains and the last 2 domains left lawtelevision.org and healingtv.org were paid in full for 5 years under their discounted offering on March 2014

Needless to say they have been charging my credit card annually for services I had already prepaid, they have entered my account and modified settings without permission and are currently extorting money to restore healingtv.org calltxt321-837-9974 thanks Johnny

British Columbia, CANADA is where they are located. Please share and warn others about cyber criminal activity from Canadian based companies.

Doteasy Technology domain registration

I have transferred a domain to Doteasy.com when they ran their $5 special. It turns out, their special was really "special". What they didn't reveal neither in their ad, nor during registration that they suck out every dollar out of you, no matter whether you stay with them, or you don't. They charge a "DOMAIN TRANSFER OUT FEE" of $15 and, unless you pay it, you cannot transfer your domain out, they simply won't unlock it. If you wait until the expiration of registration, they hit you with the next full priced registration fee and will allow you to transfer after 60 days, since you have been re-registered. So, no matter what they force you to pay. They employ lowest-of-the-low bait and switch techniques. I have read lots of complaints that people recorded online on various websites, forums, complaint boards, etc. This one has a good mix of scamming and defrauding unsuspecting customers. DOTEASY.COM should be taken out of business by the Canadian authorities! Period.

Doteasy Technology they charge for the hosting as well

I wasn’t satisfied with the services of www.doteasy.com. I have chosen the plan and it contained free hosting. But these guys took money for the plan and for the hosting as well. I noticed it only 2 months later, when I understood that the price was too large. I called them and asked to return the money, which they took within these months for the hosting. But I unfortunately heard only promises.

Doteasy Technology unauthorized charges/ unethical billing

In November of 2014, this company charged my card without authorization. I cancelled service with them. Thought this was the end of the story. In March of 2015, I realize they have charged my card again for $131.40 USD. I contact them and begin an entire weeks long discussion of back and forth in their message area ( you cannot call these people or email them ) with their obnoxious customer service agents over semantics who tells me I have to submit a form which was never made available to me when I requested cancellation of service in November of 2015 by their customer service rep.It takes tons of back and forth to finally get this form, of which I removed the authorization for them to charge me $15 to give me my money back, which they didn't have authorization to charge me in the first place. They claimed they emailed me for a renewal . However, the email address they were using didn't work, which they knew. They then try to scam me by saying they will issue a refund for the unauthorized charge to my card, but then charge me a $15.00 fee to give me my money back. What a scam. I was credited back my $131.40 and then they turned around and charged me the $15 despite the unauthorized charge int he first place. The ethics of this company is unbelievable. I wish I had known they were in the scamming business when you cancel service with them when I started with DotEasy in 2008. I would never suggest this company to anyone and a quick Google search shows me that I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS BEEN A PART OF THIS SCAM. I will also be filing a complaint with Internic.

This company has the worst customer service! They have no supervisors to speak to and supposedly they are the only ones that can resolve issues. It takes 24 hours to get a call back. So basically their customer service is an answering service! Stay away from this company! THEY are the worst!

Doteasy Technology unethical business practices

PART I

DOTEASY Hosting Experience: Only You Can Prevent Site Outages

When I signed up over 10 years ago DOTEASY had too-good-to-be-true pricing. Basic web hosting was free. I registered several domains but only developed two. At some point in the past three years the two websites I had up and running for over 8 years without a hitch went down, but the outage was not brought to my attention. I discovered the problem by visiting my own websites, and I have no idea if the websites had been down for weeks or months at that point. Unfortunately, I could not get into my FTP to correct either problem. In one case, my website had been hacked to allow adult content, and a warning from my browser indicated shortly thereafter that the site was blocked because of malicious code. In another case, a website I developed went down because DOTEASY apparently went through a migration that impacted the way their hosting servers were configured. My experience in obtaining support for the two different issues, which occurred about six months apart, were worlds apart.

In one case I contacted DOTEASY and my client's website was up two days later. In the other case, the one having to do with the hacking of my own website, DOTEASY refused to help because they said password protection was my responsibility, and that if there was any malicious code on their hosting servers as my browser was warning me, their servers would have rejected the changes. In other words, they were accusing me of making up the threat of malicious code, sure that it warranted no real investigation because there had been no suspicious activity. (Something they asserted but obviously failed to prove.) Regardless, the outcome of that protracted support conversation was that any problems with the site were mine and mine alone to correct. Eventually, instead restoring my website from a backup on the FTP server, I began to see a 403 error with the words "forbidden".

Around that time, DOTEASY FTP servers became incompatible with the version of CS3 Dreamweaver I was using for FTP access and when I told them that I couldn't access the FTP server to restore my website they offered no alternative suggestions. I had to upgrade my computer AND my software to fix the problem. When I finally got into my own FTP folder I found my website was fully intact but with the addition of HTaccess files that I had to delete before my website content came back up. Apparently, it was just easier for DOTEASY to insert access denials into my FTP folder than to restore my site after the security breach. DOTEASY cleaned out the adult content I initially saw there but they didn't take the extra step of resetting the content to enable my website to come back up.

For the better part of three years my site was down in the interim! Unfortunately, the hosting problems don't end there. Three months ago, my client site went down with a "not found" error. I found the files for the website fully intact but they had been put into the wrong directories. Mind you, this site had been working correctly for over 10 years without a hitch, and had not been updated by myself in any way before it went down (to suggest I had anything to do with it). Still went down due to a misconfiguration not of my own doing. Once again, DOTEASY did not provide a courtesy notification of any outages or server updates that might have necessitated that I revalidate the operability of my website. The upshot is, if you host with DOTEASY prepare to visit your own website every single day. Don't assume it's online just because it's been there for years. Without warning it can go down and it will stay that way without any notification on DOTEASY's part of the client.

So far I've touched on the hosting problems but there are other more serious and potentially unethical business practices going on at DOTEASY.

PART II

Unethical Business Practices

In the early days of DOTEASY there was no auto-renew option for website domains, let alone website hosting services. If you had an outdated email on file your domain registration notices were no-shows and DOTEASY as I recall in the early 2000s did not offer an alternate email contact option. In 2011 I lost one of my non-developed domains because I had not set it to auto-renew and/or did not have a current payment method on file. The domain I lost, just like all the rest of my DOTEASY-hosted domains, had been launched under their $0 basic host plan years prior. When I paid what I thought was a domain renewal fee in 2011, what I actually did without appreciating as much was to convert to a fee-based hosting service that DOTEASY had initiated as a "mandatory" change — for a website that had not yet been developed!

Doteasy will generate an invoice but invoices are only viewable if you login to your account via the DOTEASY homepage. I typically logged into FTP and email pertaining to my domains, not the DOTEASY home page. Early on, DOTEASY did not require users to specify much in the way of alternate contact information, so if your email was no longer good they'd continue to notify you at an account that was bouncing. Failure of a customer to acknowledge a TOS notice or change of hosting plan, however, does not stop DOTEASY from implementing changes that may cause a no-cost host option to convert to a fee-based hosting service.

I was told by DOTEASY support in early 2012 that I was no longer the registered owner of the domain in question and I couldn't get a refund on already-paid-for hosting fees. Okay, fine. But what they didn't tell me is that they would continue to charge me hosting fees year after year, which they have done to the present day even though I have no legal access to the domain. Without any further renewal notices associated with that lapsed domain, I made no attempt to login because logically it would seem there can be no services on a domain one does not have ownership rights to. DOTEASY will nonetheless use a patronizing tone if you should question why you are being billed for services on a domain for which you have no legal rights of development.

During the time I was charged hosting fees, my remaining domains stayed with the original $0 basic hosting plan. There was no explanation from DOTEASY why one domain had to undergo a mandatory shift from $0 basic hosting to another "basic host" plan with an annual "monthly" fee. I am, with this lone exception, on grandfathered $0 basic hosting plans to this day! I feel it is intentionally misleading to allow some no-cost basic host plans to remain in effect in some cases but not in others, and not even with any rhyme or reason pertaining to whether or not a website has been developed and uploaded yet! In one case I even had a basic $0 hosting plan bumped to a fee-based service for "mandatory" reasons only to be given a "mandatory" downconversion to the $0 basic hosting some time later, all without any contact on my part concerning those changes! If DOTEASY is going to claim they can't or won't offer the $0 basic hosting option anymore, as was the case recently when one of my undeveloped domains came up for renewal, the least one might expect is to see all similarly situated or "grandfathered" accounts treated equally. They're not, and that adds to the confusion of trying to predict what's what in terms of billing and services connected to these accounts. The more domains you register and host with DOTEASY the more arbitrary it begins to feel, and unless you login to the DOTEASY website every week to check you may very well find that you are paying for service changes you did not initiate.

I logged into DOTEASY every year on a domain-by-domain basis to renew the registration and I never once saw a reference to hosting fees associated with the defunct domain I lost back in 2011 — until 2015! In my experience if you receive an email reminder from DOTEASY concerning a website domain expiration, it is possible to click "renew" and it will go straight to the payment upon login. There is another spot for Group Manager, for those who register more than one domain, and there you are expected to create a separate login and a master payment method. Only there do you see a summary of all domains you own or still have services on. If you make the mistake of renewing on a domain-by-domain basis using a DOTEASY email link without logging into the Group Manager you may not appreciate that you are paying renewal fees on defunct web domains.

The way DOTEASY is set up if you wish to authorize an auto-renewal of your web domain you are not just consenting to renew the domain registration once per year but also any services that have been attached to it — and those services will have entirely different annual billing dates! For the many DOTEASY consumers who have been on $0 basic web hosting, it may not be expected to check for additional service fees unless one were aware that basic hosting services are no longer free of charge. After trying to figure out why I so often feel blindsided, I realized that the miscommunications are facilitated, in part, by the fact that DOTEASY will send out an email with a title that reads like it is time to renew one's domain when, in fact, the actual content of the message may go on to refer to changes of fees or terms, too. DOTEASY communications could do a much better job separating out their subjects and titles so that it is possible for their customers to appreciate even before they open the email what the nature or the urgency level of the notice really is. Unfortunately, DOTEASY doesn't make EASY what ought to be obvious.

Complicating matters further, DOTEASY appears to access any payment method on file even if the page you have logged into is configured to appear as if you are only entering payment for one particular web domain. I know this only because, having lost the domain registration rights to a domain in 2011, I never logged in to authorize or update a payment method connected to that domain. To this day, in fact, I have not set up a so-called master payment method to cover all my accounts hosted by DOTEASY. The only way DOTEASY could have billed me to host a domain years after I lost it, without any updates to the payment method in the interim, was to BORROW my most recently used payment method for the purpose of sharing that payment between domains and services!

I am only now beginning to appreciate that DOTEASY is phasing out their no-cost basic hosting in favor of a fee-only business model. In view of the borderline service and limited support options, DOTEASY is no longer a good value. Of even more concern, DOTEASY would appear to be operating on the outer edges of legality. That is because failure to respond to an email notice constitutes YOUR consent for DOTEASY to impose and thereafter bill for ALL subsequent services even if they, not you, initiated the service or rate changes.

SUMMARY:

1) DOTEASY can and will change terms and fees without making clear how long the customer has to respond to or opt out of the proposed change.

2) DOTEASY will display hosting plans and invoices if you login to your domain management account, but there is no option to receive a quarterly or monthly summary of activity via email.

3) Under the DOTEASY Group Manager there is no readily-apparent means to totally remove a payment method associated with an individual domain or to decline future hosting services on an domain you no longer intend to host and/or register with them.

4) DOTEASY does not prompt users who have failed to login for a period of time to review TOS changes that may have occurred since the customer's last known login.

5) If for some reason you need to make an update to a payment method, you will not be allowed to do so without checking a box giving DOTEASY the ability to use that payment method in perpetuity. In other words, DOTEASY provides an "opt in" but no identifiable "opt out".

CLOSING

Buyer Beware

If you choose to host your website on DOTEASY my suggestion is this: Do not configure auto-billing, do not save a payment method and do not make the mistake of receiving notifications for your domain at a domain-generated email account hosted by DOTEASY. Why? Because if you lose your domain registration rights, DOTEASY will continue to email notices pertaining to "orphaned" services to a non-functioning email account that you cannot access. Even if such contact efforts fail, DOTEASY will not send you a letter or phone you, even if you have provided additional contact information at signup or as part of your billing setup. Furthermore, unless you configure an alternate email address for each and every email account you have ever created in connection with a DOTEASY-hosted domain, you may very well continue to miss important notices.

For the above reasons I cannot recommend DOTEASY.

Doteasy Technology they started to charge me for some fake services

I started to use the website www.doteasy.com about a year ago. At the beginning, it was ok, but later these jerks started to charge me for bogus services and the sum, which they took from me, was larger and larger. I tried to reach them, but online char agents were unavailable all the time. I sent them emails, but they didn’t reply. No idea how to stop these fraudulent charges. The worst company ever, so avoid these ### and post comments about your experience with them.

Doteasy Technology unauthorized billing

I have to agree with all the reviews regarding unauthorized charges to credit cards. I am guardian for a lady with dimensia. Over a year ago, I paid her Doteasy account with my credit card and now I have received an unauthorized charge on my card, which I have now cancelled to prevent further abuses by Doteasy. I sent Doteasy an email and have received no response. DO NOT GIVE DOTEASY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION!

I'm having issues with Doteasy refusing to release my domain name for transfer to another registrar and host. I logged in and got the authorization code & initiated a transfer of my domain before it expired. I got a notice from the new registrar that the transfer was successful, followed a few minutes later by a message saying the transfer failed due to a lock status. I messaged Doteasy about the domain lock, but they did not reply until after my domain expired. I clearly checked the lock status of my domain when I was getting the authorization code and it showed to be unlocked. After the transfer failed I checked again and it showed to be locked. Doteasy refuses to unlock it now unless I pay their "domain release fee" which is the same dollar amount as renewing and hosting for another year. I've already paid for another registrar & host and do not want to do business with Doteasy any longer. Repeated messages to support & a phone call have failed to resolve this issue.

Doteasy Technology poor customer service

Like so many of the other negative reviews on this site and others I can confirm the bad business practices of Doteasy. I have had three different domains hosted with them in the past few years.

One of these I cancelled over a year ago and was recently billed for hosting on it anyway. I requested a refund, was given a runaround (including the demand that I fax a copy of my credit card to them), and eventually had to contact my credit card company to dispute the charge.

The other two accounts I am attempting to move to a different hosting service. One of these appears to be moving along as expected. The other was locked (without my authorization) and they are giving me a hard time about making the transfer. Again they are demanding a fax copy of my credit card. After some back and forth they said that it was okay to black out most of the number and the security code. I decided to just go ahead and do that. I have sent very legible copies to them twice now, and they claim that what they receive is too dark to read.

I'm not sure how this will ultimately resolve. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Stay away!

Doteasy Technology scam+ fraud

Doteasy engages in illegal billing and business practices. They will charge your cancelled account without consent. They do not follow Icann policies be warned. I worked there, and I was Disgusted at how I had to lie to customers and basically make excuses on why we cannot transfer their domain name.

If a customer changes their contact information on the domain, they cannot transfer the domain away from Doteasy until after 60 days. So basically, you are Forced to renew with Doteasy. If you want to transfer your domain name before expiry, they will keep the ball rolling until it expires, and then tell you it has expired, so you cant transfer it and you are required to renew, which is a 60 day lock.

If you attempt to dispute charges via your bank. They Will charge you a hosting chargeback fee.

DO NOT HAVE ANY BUSINESS TO DO WITH DOTEASY. Oh and once your domain name is expired, if you are on their FREE plan after 40 days they will start to bill you $1.95 / month for webhosting without your permission.

They will judge you based on your level of English, the country you are from, and many more factors and your gender. They will put notes all over your account not to do business with you if you ask too many questions or ask for help at all. They will note you as a troublemaker and basically hang up the phone on your or ignore your emails for help.

There servers are not secure, like any "shared hosting" company, you cannot rely on them. You will get hacked into if one site gets compromised. Their managers and supervisors will laugh in your face and ignore your request to speak to them.

They also do not care about BBB ratings or ICANN, they are not scared of them. They will find any way to screw you over for your money and take away your business.

Dont even try to register a domain name that's even close to popular, you register your name, and happen to be a celebrity or a major corporation they will take your domain for you and take ownership on it and make you pay quite a large sum of money to get it back, basically kidnapping your domain and your business until you pay the ransom.

They also hide under different aliases of companies. Just do your research.

Also, if you purchase a domain name on a promotion, you are not entitled to transfer domain services. You have to pay a substantial cost to get your domain name away from them.

Trust it from an employee. Do NOT do business with them. Go to GoDaddy or HostGator who will treat you like royalty.

Read their terms and conditions word by word before you sign any contracts with them.

To all who are dissatisfied with DOTEASY'S practices. FILE complaints with ICANN and BBB. It's the only way to get something done about these robbers! I would give negative stars if I could. If you are looking for a decent Domain Registrar that won't charge your credit card without your authorization, will unlock your domains when requested for transfer, won't make you jump through hoops because they are vindictive. DO NOT use DOTEASY! There are thieves locked up in the prison system who are more honest. Take my word for it or not. If not I wish you luck and keep an eye on any credit or debit card statement you use with them. CHA CHING!

Doteasy Technology hosting service

Signed up for services in September and began implementing in November.
Once My website become active things suddenly stopped working. After many hours of investigation, I submitted a support request to DotEasy. They responded by informing me my script couldn't release resources and was causing trouble for the server. I checked my code for an extended period of time and could not find any errors or reasons why resources were not released.
After many days and attempts by Dot Easy support to sell "partner" services and hourly dubugging services I figured out there was NO problem with my script. DotEasy was simply not capable of providing shared hosting services.
When they would not enable my website I requested a refund. They refused.
If you are seeking hosting services look elsewhere. There are many other better and more reliable alternatives available.

Doteasy Technology illegitimate fees

On June 20th, 2009 my domain name expired with Doteasy. This was fine, as I was no longer using that site.
On September 8th, 2009, I was charged $22.54 to my checking account. The only email I received, said the following:

"Your Doteasy hosting account change of service has been completed.
Please note that a change of service may require you to re-publish your
website to your new server.

If you access your URL and can see your website but are unable to
publish to your new server, this may be due to DNS caching and
this problem is normal and will resolve itself within 24 hours.

If you are required to re-publish your website, you will see the
standard Doteasy 'under construction' page once your site has
been moved to your new server.

If you need assistance please feel free to contact us.

https://www.doteasy.com/ContactUs/

Or you can contact our Customer Support Center at [protected].
Our support center hours are from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm PST.

Regards,

The Doteasy Team
'Join the hosting revolution!'"

Now keep in mind, I had not changed anything in my account. I found the email odd; however, I figured that they had completely finished the cancellation of my account. I didn't give it a second thought. Needless to say, that was a huge mistake, as the charge unfortunately overdrew my checking account.

After complaining to the company, the following was sent as the reason for this charge: "...To continue your current web hosting account and services, there will be a US$1.95/month (12-month billing term) fee."

The last time I checked with a calculator, $1.95 x 12 does not equal $22.54. It equals $23.40.

Then the following sentence was also used as a reason for the charge: "If a reply is not received within 14 days of this notice, the default action is to continue your Doteasy hosting services on the Doteasy Basic Hosting plan to avoid any disruption to your website and email. The payment for the Doteasy Basic Hosting plan will be processed on the payment information we have on file."

Now this alleged email from Doteasy was sent on August 10th and August 17th, two dates that if you add 14 to, they still don't equal the date in which I got charged - September 8th, 2009. Of course this still doesn't explain the actual amount I was charged. Plus, how are they avoiding disruption to my website, when my domain has been canceled?

So, why would they charge me a "hosting fee"? What are they hosting? There is nothing to host!

Keep in mind, I am always very cautious about providing my account information online. If I purchase something, I never leave the account information on the site, I always go in and change it to the "Bill Me" option. Now, I would have done that with Doteasy; however, they don't give you that option. I have provided a print screen of their credit card input page. Keep in mind, this is the page that EXISTING customers are directed to. Please tell me if you see a "Bill Me" option or even a "cancel" option.

I want this to be a warning to all web designers or business owners, do NOT go with Doteasy. Nothing is easy about their company. The fact that they can't even provide a legitimate reason for the charge, is scary in itself, even scarier is that I can't get my checking account information off of their website. Good thing my bank is willing to do a dispute against their company and block any further charges from them.

Doteasy refuses to release & transfer my domain unless I pay their "domain release fee." I initiated a transfer well in advance of expiration, but they locked the domain & didn't respond to my request for it to be unlocked until after it expired. Tech support has been useless so far. This company should be avoided at all costs.

They charge a renewal fee of $25/year or a $20/transfer out fee. No other provider in this industry has these fees. Stay away from this company, they will screw you over. You can get a domain renewal at other competitors for $8/year and no other competitor even chargers a transfer out fee.

Dot easy SUCKS. I had big problems trying to transfer / cancel a number of web sites that were hosted by them. Allobstaces possible putup to avoid a refund for their mistake. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Threaten them with their local trading standards, that's what I did.
Google for 'doteasy problems' and I dare you to use them !

I totally agree with you! I ordered my domain in January of 2009. I never used it, and figured I would let it expire, seeing as it was only for one year. I used my debit card to pay for it, BIG MISTAKE! This year, I was charged another 25.00, and at this time in my life, i cannot afford to give away 25.00. I emailed them that i had not authorized the money to be taken from my checking account and that I want it refunded and my domain cancelled. I received this email:

Hello Angela,

Is your domain gigabyte-me.com?

Your domain gigabyte-me.com had been renewed on 2010-01-14 because you had selected to enable the domain auto-renewal feature previously when you signed up on 2009-01-18. As a result, when your domain is near expiry, the domain auto-renewal goes into effect. Once a domain has has been renewed, it cannot be reversed as domain registrations cannot be changed or cancelled unfortunately. If you do not need the domain anymore, you will have to allow that to expire by itself. We can only help you make sure the domain auto-renewal function is turned off so that this won't happen in the future. Please reply with your Member ID and Password to let us know if you like us to turn off the domain auto-renewal feature.

Regards,

OK, they said I had selected for it to renew, and I never once entered my account preferences on that domain, I never even signed in until today! so how could i select that? Today a friend of mine, who is a web designer, told me how to access the account information. In there, nowhere was there a choice to have it "auto-renew". You see he asked for my personal information to "unselect" auto renew for me. Something I did not give, nor will I. I complained about this incident to ICANN and will dispute the charge at my bank, cancel my card for a new number, and all of this because Dot"easy" is a bunch of crooks!

I recommend everyone stay away!

I had this exact same thing happen to me. I figured it was a mistake...a one time thing. Only I had them set up with my credit card and upon calling DotEasy they said they would refund my money if I faxed them a statement and and my credit card info. I also contacted my

But I have other domain names registered through doteasy that I have let expire. And they have just charged me yet again for two "change of service" fees for these two expired domains!

I have always been pleased with the service I got from doteasy...until now. This is ridiculous!

I will be contacting my credit card company and tell them to block all charges from doteasy. And I suppose I will have to find a new host and registrar for the other domains I still wish to use.

Doteasy Technology - web hosting services - absolutely a nightmare experience!

Contacted DotEasy for web hosting services in early January. Signed up for hosting services at $10.00 per month. After receiving information from others who had bad experiences with this company, I cancelled my account within days without every activating web hosting. Later found out they had debited my credit card for a full year of service. Recontacted...
