Dollar General ive got one for ya

I've got one for you. I work at a Dollar General where there is no organization. Being the third key and someone who cares about the store, I work hard. The district manager is sleeping with my manager, and the asst. manager uses this info to benefit herself. The assistant manager has missplaced her keys on three occasions that I know of, and no disciplinary action has been taken. Both managers leave the backroom and the sales floor in disorder. They will leave boxes and other items piled up instead of putting them where they belong. I feel that I have been used and I'm a big sucker for thinking that if you work hard and keep our nose clean, you can move up in the company. This is especially clear when your managers are unorganized and are basically there for a paycheck. They are both consistently late for work and often complete no work on their shift. They are constantly on their cell phones which is against company policy. They also wear blue jeans and are rarely in proper uniform. Dollar General tends to promote the worst people, and let the hard workers get frustrated and quit. I have recently told the manager to cut my hours back because I am completely disgusted with how things are done there. What they don't know is I'm cutting back on how hard I work also. I plan to go in and do my share, and watch the store go back to being as dirty and disorganized as it was before I started.

If you want to advance in a career, forget Dollar General. I worked for a store for 5 years and was eventually made manager. I brought the store up to a very productive store and one day the district manager decided to fire me for something very stupid. You will be much happier to be out of there as soon as possible. Hard work for this company only leads to abuse and being dismissed.

I agree with what you are saying because it is true, i also work at dollar general and for my time there have witnessed on many accounts dishonesty and unfair treatment. I go in do my job and go home but the way i look at it is that if that is what they do and you see there is a problem and there is no one around to help you it's up to you to help yourself and the other people that may also see a problem but don't say anything.

Dollar General bad management

I have a complaint about Store # 10452 from 09/04/2008. I went in the store around 6:45pm and I purchased three items. When I went to the counter to purchase my items, there were 12 people in one line and no one was in the store. The manager was missing and 1 girl helped bag the items, which had her name tag on backwards. The cashier didn't have a name tag on and would not open up another line. I was displeased because I had to wait about an half-hour just to reach the front counter to purchase three little items. I hope that the organization and speed of service would be more efficient the next time I visit this store. If problem persists, I will send another complaint to Corporate Office. Thanks for your time in this matter and I hope things get straighten out!

i went into the store right now and brought up about 15 bulbs to plant they were 90 percent off of the price of 3.95 so i would have gotten them very cheap anyway i am ready to pay for them the cashier rings them up and they come out to 1 penny so she sais well thats not right so i cant sell them to you so i tell her get a calculater and do the math she refused so i said iguess she is just to lazy to do her job or wanted the bulbs for herself and my daughter also found some planting vases for next year at a fair price and she said i cant sell them to you because they dont have a price so i said well isnt it your job to have prices marked on what your selling in the store i was very upset over this situation and i thought id let the public know that when you find a good deal the cashiers probably wont sell it because they want the last left for themselves o well that was my experience at the dollar general today and i rate it a big f for thei grade

Yes there is. It is on the front door of the store as you come in. On the sign that states " Shirt and shoes required" No pets aloud. Only service dogs.
No disrespect intended, but that is common sense, not to bring animals into a store or resturant unless it is a service animal.

I would like to know if the Dollar General has a rule about taking ppets into their stores. Recently, I carried my 12 week old puppy (in my arm, never touching a cart, floor, etc.) into a Dollar General Store and was told by the manager that pets are not allowed. I DO NOT see a sign on the door stating no pets allowed! Is there a policy for the Dollar General Stores?

Always at any dollar general store i shop at they are slow and most of the time there is a very long line, not enough people to check customers out and they cashiers seem to take their time, like the customers have all day to wait for them. Someone needs to put some fire behind the employees and get them to move faster, or more employees & hire people who can work more quickly! There isn't enough help and the help that is there is too slow!

Dollar General bad service

This afternoon, I stopped into dollar general in sun prairie, wisconsin to pick up a few items. Myself and several other friends walked in, and could not have been in the store for more than 2 minutes, when an employee, kelly, stepped out, and very rudely said, "only two in the store!" I looked at her, not sure what she meant, and she again, repeated herself, very rudely, "only two in the store! You all need to leave!"

Sensing that she was certainly beyond listening to a reasonable explanation based upon the attitude she exhibited, we promptly left the store, and went across to walgreens to spend our money.

Later that night, I called dollar general to speak to manager regarding this employee, and was connected to, no other than kelly, the same employee that removed us from the store. I explained the situation to her and she said that she would "talk to her" and hung up.

As a person who has worked in retail, I know that this is absolutely no way to treat your customers. Had she addressed the issue with more respect and tact, I would have understood and left the store. However, she immediately addressed me in a very rude and disrespectful tone, and took no time to listen to what I had to say.

It was only when I called back, and she outright lied to me about 'speaking with that employee' (Mind you, she was 'that' employee) that I actually got something that would even remotely resemble manners from this employee.

Dollar general lost four customers tonight, and it's not likely they will be getting them back anytime soon.

I too have some times been treated in a strange fashion. Also saw others simularly treated.

The day I came:
They did get rid of many people that came into the store.
I had got there just prior to many coming in. Their (the staff)behavior is not of a good customer relations, even with only a few are IN the store.

I saw one of their people take a roll of toliet paper out of a big bag of
t. paper that was on the shelv for people to buy, and hurried back to a back room. I only assume the obivious that they ran out of t.p. for their own office bathroom.

Later, I heard two different staff people talk about that a bag of t.p. ----a roll was missing from the shelf, & from a bag. They, being employed there, should have known why that roll of t.p. was missing. They looked at me and asked if I knew. I told them what I say and they eyes grew not too friendly.

The staff lady who took the toilet paper, later looked like the same one who left. The buzzer went off while she hurried to the door. On way out she "look" nervious and some what up set. She never stopped even after the buzzer went off AND, no other staff person came up to see what was happening.

On a different note:

To find a staff person for product help is a desire to wish for--their not well? the best? No.

Dollar General Discrimination by dm

Yes i was employed by DG for 1 year . During that year i gave it my everything. We experienced the pleasure of receiving a new DM. ON my first day meeting her she incinuted that I was lying to her by jobs that I had done around the store. I stayed employed for 6 months taking the constant complaints of me not doing my job well enough to suit her. I was 3rd key holder and went above and beyond my duties but when I was refused the job of Asst. Mgr. because she "did not like me" and I had to train the new Asst. Mgr. to be, plus the new trainee was going to receive more per hour than I ...that was the last straw...It was not a work related decesion to hold my promotion back but a personal one and I feel that someone in the DM position should have more self control than to let personal feeling of dislike overide a manager decision

I wish that there was some where a customer could go to complaine about the abuses toward the employees at the Dollar General stores by the company it's self and the District Managers.
I've been going to the Dollar General in Liberty, N.C. for 14 years.
In so many years, you see a lot of employees come and go, then you grow used to the ones who have been there any where from 4 years to a little over 11 years.
These same people are the ones that you actually drive on past Family Dollar or the Food Lion to do your shopping to see because there's something in their personality or just the way they have with their customers.
For several months now, I've watched managers move in and out of this store.
We've watched the store be turned up-side down and inside out.
One new manager in the beginning of the summer, for some reason, began gunning for one of the key holders, using a young, troubled boy to get rid of her.
The problem with that plan was that most of Liberty has known this boy since early elementary school and has dealt with him on one level or another, and the ones of us he talked to were listening to what he was saying. He's very impressionable, and had bragged about being in love with the new manager, and had told of going out to eat with this particular person, The new manager told him that with his help(in getting rid of this one employee), they would clean out the old employee's and bring in the one's that could be trusted and that he would be made a key holder.
The boy also bragged about them talking on the phone when they weren't in the store together or out doing things. He bragged about having the home & cell phone numbers of this individual. We didn't believe him ao he gladly showed us. At this point, we started listening and watching.
Through all of this, the hours got crazier & crazier, this 1st new manager started pulling things off the shelves, pulling everything out of the stock room, and went on a hiring spree. He seemed to be targeting a couple of the employees and really picking on the one that the young boy was telling all of us was soon to be history and giving all of the 3 longest employeed there impossible demands and tasks to meet. come truck day, they didn't have any where to put anything.
Sure enough, before long, $50 some dollars came up missing out of the 1 said persons' till.
They called her in to fire her claiming to have watched the survellance tapes and asked for her keys.
She refused to take it with out first seeing the tapes her self. Upon watching the one for the day in Question ( with the manager who claimed he & the DM had already viewed it!) the play back clearly showed her and another employee go back into the store and put up stock while the boy who kept bragging that they (he & the manager) were about to make their move, went over to her register, picked up a phone card and ring it up on her til. They didn't fire her or the others yet. When she asked the DM about this, he told her to leave this person alone or else (the manager) she would be leaving.
Later, for some reason, the new manager bonded with one of the employees who had been on the hit list, so she at least had it a little easier for a short while.
He told her one night that if anything came up, he would deny everything!
He soon quit. Then all kinds of craziness started getting crazier. Not to mention that the one they were after to start with thought that she had hung the phone up after giving her nightly report to the DM, and was sort of joking and saying " no, I don't hope you have a great night! an I wish he would stop asking about that literacy fund box, what am I supposed to do? hold the customers up to put money into it? I already bought candy out of my own pocket to put next to it so if people took candy, they had to put money into the box. It don't say where the money's used, it's not like you see signs up in any of the public buildings saying reading classes at the elementary school partially funded by your local Dollar General! Then she made a joke about maybe it's actually their retirement fund. That's what I've heard some of the customers say!
Not only did she not hang the phone up, but thae entire incidence was being recorded!
Just bad luck for her all the way around! A few weeks later, after all the cashiers started really pressing the customers to contribute to the fund, some one asked out right, "where does the money really go?' They kept looking and googled it.
It doesn't go back into the community, it's sent to Syracuse N.Y.
This particular DM (and I will call him by name) took an instant dislike to her and one other employee because of their looks and clothes and the company wanted to get rid of a 3rd one because of her age(3rd one has been there for 11 years and is like 62) all three of them were about to start costing them money for vacations or retirement or profit sharing. As far as looks, one had to wear slacks cut off below the knees is a 2+ or 3+, is the only one working for now due to back surgery and what at first they thought was cancer(her husband) and they have a minor child. The othe is the hardest working person you would ever meet and looking at her, you can tell that she's had a hard life.(Not drugs or anything) Just a hard worker who works as long as it takes, is under weight from stress and from helping 2 family members meet Dr.s appt.s and deal with Hospice, on top of losing her step-daughter and dealing with the emotional blow to all involved and her own feelings, as she had had the girl since she was about 6. The 3rd, I guess just her age.
She's not slow, she's a pretty sharp dresser, quite lovely, it's just, our guess, she's about to start costing the company money.
The manager finally quit and went back as a regular clerk at a different store making the statement to the one he bonded with, "If I go down, I'm taking plenty with me!"
So something had been going on and it wasn't over. Here come thhis girl from another store with the gleam of manager position on the near horizon in her eye. Again, things pulled from shelves lined up throughout the store like a childs boxes lined up playing cho-cho, and all the stock in the stock room needing to be put up. Again, here comes the truck but no room in the stock room for new stock! Instead of having them front and put up stock, they're having to re-shelve and move existing stock, sweep and mop and mark all kinds of stuff down. I was in there and 2 of them were working their hind ends off and one made the remark, " come on, we better clock back in!" The new people (2 women), were doing something, but you still couldn't find what you came in for and had to go to another store, and the tension in the store was so thick that you could cut it with a knife.
The employees weren't the same friendley people and you could read stress all over all of them. someone started taking tapes home watching them for any little thing.
A frien of mine called me on Sunday and said that she asked where everyone was and that an employee told her that they had been layed off for using coupons to steal from the store. I called one of the women and she said that a couple of them used coupons and like at the grocery store, where a coupon will say Red Baron singles pizzas so much off, but you buy the large instead, it goes ahead and takes the coupon, , they had done that with some P&G goupons and an air freshner product. She said that the computer scanned it and took it with out any problem so they didn't know that they would get into any trouble for it. Then she said that because I'm in there so much that they asked her about me and what I did with the stuff that I get? She told them that I make baskets and donate things to send in for the shoe boxes that my church sends. The coupons that I used were all buy one get one or buy two get one. I want them to ask me, because all of my purchases were by the specifications on the coupons. I'll also tell them and I have proof, that my ride would drop me off to do my shopping while they ran their errands, and that I would walk around the store and front and pick up trash so that the ones working could do some of the other stuff on their lists. I even told the woman who thought that she was going to be the manager of that store that I sometimes did this. She told me to help my self! I hope that these ladies don't take this laying down because the last I heard, what this district manager, (He really did have a vendetta on these women, especially the one) the manager and the other two women were doing is called discrimination, harrassment and slander! I truely hope that they all 3 get an attorney. I know a really good one. I've known him simce I was 16, he's been a friend of mine for over 30 years and he is now pretty famous thanks to the Greensboro, Clan Nazi Ralleys!
If they so much as utter my name( the one's running their mouthes at the store) I'll hit them with a slander suit so fast they won't know what hit them.
If their's a thief, it would be management at Dollar General. While they were scanning those tapes looking for something to get these women on, they would surely have seen all the employee's working with out breaks and have noticed 2 of the women working off the clock through their luncjes. Two employees had alreadt quit because they weren't allowed to take a break or lunch. This was after 4-9 hour shifts!

A fed up, disgusted customer
Who spent several hundred dollars per month
in Dollar General, who refuses to ever step foot
in another Dollar General, much less spend another red cent in any of them!
Who would like to see more boycott Dollar General for abuse and unfair treatment of loyal employees.
All of this little vendetta at a time when a job is the hardest thing to come by.

Wow, I also worked hard for a year with Dollar General at store 3728 in Orlando, FL. We had a store manager run away with ten grand of the companies money. Then an employee came in one evening and held the store up with customers in it. I was amazed. The employ was suspected of theft with evidence against him. You would have thought that loss prevention would have been on top of him but nope, they kept him on the schedule for another week and he robbed the store. AND THEN, the district manager Doug Benjamin goes and says to me that he believes I discriminately caused the store to get robbed when customers asked what happened to the employee. I said, "he got fired" Are you kidding, those are definately words to grant a robbery. I was terminated three days after I disputed what the DM said to me. Anyway after working so dilligently and most of all honestly for dollar general I was appalled by their actions and am currently trying to boycott their stores here in Orlando, Florida.

Thanx

LorRae - And you did NOTHING to inspire this dislike? I find that more than a little difficult to believe.

You stated, "...someone in the DM position should have more self control than to let personal feeling of dislike overide a manager decision." REALLY? What world do YOU live in? People are governed by their emotions all the time, no matter what position they hold. Maybe they SHOULD be dispassionate, but they're not. They can manufacture and corporate policy reason they want to get rid of you, although underneath it all, they are driven by their emotions.

Dollar General Wrongful termination

Hello, my name is rashekia cross and I am a former employee of the dollar general store #1350 in fla. I was wrongfully terminated for a customer check not having the sufficient funds. My mistake was that instead of tendering the check in as a check I put it in as cash. The amount was $332.10, I immediately alerted my m. O. D. Toni robinson and she absolutely did nothing about the situation. It is funny that I now know toni as the assistant manager should have made done a transaction void and had me to re-ring the merchandise over again while the customer was still right there in the store. Toni was not written up/terminated but I was. What's wrong with this scenario? Mr. Rick dreling needs to know about this personally. Also, I know even though she is a asst. Manager the principle should still stand that what's right is right and wrong is wrong & fair is fair. If I was terminated than she needs to be terminated as well. I honestly deserve to have my job back and all these set ups / sabotaging other employees needs to cease. Jealousy is rotteness to the bones. So in the words of tony montana "every dog has there day". Ms. Toni robinson yours is coming! Please feel free to leave comments or a mssge on this screwed up situation. Thank you!

As a former Retail Manager, I can tell you first-hand that you may have got a bad deal. Also, if they suspected you of accepting bad checks, I would feel safe assuming that they saw this as an opportunity to terminate you. Your manager should have followed the rules when you made her aware of it; especially since you brought it to her attention. Unless... the customer had already left the store with the merchandise. If the customer was still in the store, at the register and your manager refused your call for help that is the manager's fault; you should raise hell.

I would suggest filing for unemployment; most states will still award it to you if you were terminated.

This is what happened to you; The customer wrote the check, you entered it as cash and put it in the drawer and the customer left with the merchandise and receipt. Your manager ignored your request for help.

If I were to guess, here's what your manager may have suspected ...
The customer wrote a bad check
You took the check and entered it as cash (your bank deposit total will be correct although the the cash and check amounts will differ, the total will be the same.
Now the customer can leave the store with a receipt and the merchandise and can return the merchandise for cash at another store.
If the store has had previous disparities in bank deposits and NSF checks; she may have been looking for the cause.

If this manager has shown jaded or unfair performance reviews on you in the past, you should collect any documentation on your reviews and protest her decision to upper management. She may be acting on a personal basis for some reason. If she is, that is 100% unacceptable and possibly illegal.

Good Luck.

Carla,
Is you dog okay? Your comment didn't indicate if your dog ingested these treats. I sure hope all is well. Seems retailers are increasingly lax about pet recalls. I once had an issue with an error on a prescription for my pet, it nearly killed him. I checked everywhere for legal support, but came up empty handed. It's sad but currently, there is not much recourse when it comes to pets and losses thereof. However, DollarTree is guilty of selling a known recall and you should be entitled to reimbursement for;
Vetrinary Bills
A full refund for the products
Anything soiled or destroyed due to your pets illness should be professionally cleaned or replaced
God forbid if your pet died as a result of this, Dollartree should reimburse you for the cost of your pet (cold but true)

Believe me, I love animals and hate that this sort of thing is just brushed off like a recall on a coloring book with misspelled words.

first off anyone who works for dollar general should know that your not suppose to take a check over $150.00 dollars and if it is $50.00 or more always get the M.O.D's approval this would have saved all the hassle and the termination of an employee ..but i do agree that the M.O.D should have fixed the problem because it was fixable, that just shows lack of caring for the store and the employee.

Dollar General Firing of annette watson

I, too, have been discriminated against by Dollar General. I have had personal insults, totally uncalled for, made to me by the District Manager regarding my weight. I do the same work others do and yet he found it necessary to insult me. I am dependable, hard working, loyal to the company and most important of all I guess, HONEST. These qualities mean nothing to David Moore, District Manager.

I thnk she should file a complaint with eeoc and also get her job back. I also think she should consider herself lucky to be free of DG.

I just had to wait 2 weeks for my pay of period ending 8/29. I was transferred to a different store and no one bothered to do their paperwork-so much for accountability. Home office issued the check stub, which was received by UPS on Wednesday. But the mental not-so-giants didn't release the money to my bank account and I had to wait until Friday for the scheduled release of funds. And yet the store manager latches on to her own check as soon as it comes in on Wednesday. She shares the blame for my pay mixup as well as the DMDM.

Dollar General The assistant manager unprofessional behavior.

I sent my 13 year old daughter into the store to buy a surge protector. She asked the assistant manager at the time where to locate the item. My daughter could not find the item, she asked again and the a/manager (a middle-aged white female) yelled at her and told her it was in the corner. I went into the store to speak with the individual about the unprofessional behavior. I remember 2 females named Mary and Donna. I believe the assistant was Mary. She asked Donna to confirm that she did not yell at my daughter and Donna turn her head and did not answer. I told her very professionally that she would not yell at my child and requested that she return my money for the item that I purchased. This incident occurred during the week of July 21-25, 2008.

Dollar General Bad management

The manger is very rude is not there when she needs to be there and most of all is not respectful to her employees. I have been in this store on several occasions and there would be only one clerk working in the morning and one clerk at night. The manger however is nowhere to be found when she is needed. she is constantly leaving work using her children and husband as excuses. She has on several occasions mistreated her employees causing them to either be fired or quit. She has raised her voice at her employees in front of customers belittling them until one was almost in tears. She feels that her employes must live their lives at Dollar General but she herself does not have to be there. I don't know I am just an outsider, just a customer but I thought you should be treated with respect at your work place and feel safe but I have heard the employees talk on several occasions that they were in fear of losing their jobs because no matter what they did it was never good enough in the managers eyes and anyday now they would be fired. Since this manger has come work here the employees have started to drop like flies.. I am sorry but we miss their smiling faces and their warm welcomes and bubbly attitudes and just wanted to let you know that we think yu have made a horrible mistake in hiring this manager..

Dollar General Bad management

I have been an employee of Dollar General For about 6 months now. I didn't have any problems with them at first...shortly after i was hired a found out i was pregnant. Notice I was getiing about 32 hours a week now i get 4hrs. if im lucky. My store manager soon began being rude to me, talking of my personal buisness in front of customers(not very professional at all) customers that at the time she was running her mouth, were my family and friends. This happened on more than one account. She is rude to customers all the time...other employees and myself have to calm them after she has made them angry. I always worked my hardest and now that i have to slow down a little bit(like not lift such heavy things) because im pregnant she says i am not dependable..? haha. She is discriminating me only because i am pregnant and she looks at it as a liability. She is not professional in any matter and now im turning to Corp.

My name is Jody Milburn, my wife Chris is the assistant manager of the Albia Dollar General and has been for 4 years.

Approximately 2 years ago her boss (Dee is her name) was fiered for no obvious reason, but oh well that don't matter. Ever since that time Chris has had to take over manager position and run a million dollar store. She had never had any prior experience with DG or retail management, but did it like she had been doing it for years.

Since that time there has been what seems like a revolving door of managers (5 new managers!). Every time a new manager comes through Chris always hold the hands of the managers who apparently have the passed this test that she couldn't, but show the lack of competance to run the store. Meanwhile, did i mention the miniscule amount of pittance for pay from a multi-million dollar corporation.

After this past dismissal of a worthless manager, Chris was begged to take the manager position from her district manager, because quote "I never have to worry about the store while you are running it"

She had to go online and take some ridiculous test. Well she did not pass the test. Well she did not pass the test. The only thing that test proves is that she didn't know how to answer questions from the way some crooked corporation wants her to.

For the past 2 years Chris was good enough to fill in and manage a million dollar store while this pathetic corporation pissed around and looked for someone else to run it as good as she has for penny's, but couldn't

Now it comes to a stop. There will be no more slaving for you greedy ### for no more money. I won't sit back and watch her put in her 40 hours and also have numerous phone calls on her days off to deter problems or avoid obstacles. Chris is way too great of a person to have to put up with the extra stress, that by the way, she never complains about.

I am a supervisor where I work. I was put into that postion with hard work and knowledge of the work. I never had to take some ridiculous test that had nothing to do with the achievements that I can accomplish otherwise, i may not hold a supervisor position.

Ask the community and all her co-workers how much they would lover for her to be manager of that store and i promise you will hear a great outcry in her favor.

I'm not just saying all this cause i'm her husband.

I know how much she cares about her job, store, co-workers, and customers. I'm saying what happened to hard work and knowledge to get you ahead?

Chris doesn't know I'm posting this but I don't care. If she loses her job cause of my states, so what?!?! There is much better than that disgrace of a Corporation that is Dollar General but she just don't want to see it.

She loves her job and executes it beyond all else while being a great mother and wife. I listened to her talk about work every night and see the passion in her eyes. She is so depressed about the failure of a test to get a job which she has successfully been doing the past couple years.

All I can say is, quit listening to a bunch of psychoanalysis and promote from the ground up.

Don't punish my wife for my thoughts and feelings, prove to me that i'm wrong, because I don't think you cowardly, ignorant, corporate fools can.

Sincerely,
Jody Milburn

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT OLD SAYING: TREAT PEOPLE HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH THESE LETTERS AND NUMBERS BEHIND THEIR NAME ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE THE MOST UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY AND ATTITUDE. BUT WHEN YOU FOR 1 TIME GIVE IT RIGHT BACK TO THEM, OOH THEN IT'S A PROBLEM. THEY NOW CALL YOU INSUBORDINATE. I MEAN THESE MANAGERS ARE DISRESPECTFUL TO FELLOW CO-WORKERS, CUSTOMERS AND WHOM EVER ELSE. DOLLAR GENERAL IS A GOOD COMPANY TO WORK FOR UNFORNATELY IT'S THE STORE MANAGERS AND ASSISTANT MANAGERS THAT ARE NOT VERY KIND. THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE, NOT ALL OF THEM. GET IN CONTACT WITH MR. Dollar General Bad management!

Management was very Rude to Customers. Customers were standing in line with two lines opened, with ten or more customers in each line. There were at least three other terminals that would have been opened. When asked if other terminals could be opened. The manager was very disrespectful and rude to customers. We were told that we could wait are leave. After being challenge on talking to customers in this manner she then stated that all the other registers could not complete credit/debit transactions. At that point I stated that she could have opened up a cash only terminal to alleviate/shortened the waiting time.

No customers deserves this type of treatment from Dollar General Employees. Family Dollar, Target, Walmart, and K-mart looks better each day in regard to customer friendliness, service and support.

Manager: No name tag displayed on the employee, she was only referred to as "Miss Helen":

Store Location: Stillman Blvd.
Tuscaloosa, Al 35403.

The Dollar General budgets hours for each store. The manager can't go over the allotted hours per week given. The work load stays the same so more often than not...the managers have to put in 70 to 80 hrs. per week to compensate for the loss of hours allotted. Managers are listed under salaried employee. They don't get overtime compensation so just remember how this company runs it's business. I would be" put out " also. As in fed up...over it!

Managers throughout Tuscaloosa seem extremely dull and/or disempowered by the company. Once I tried to return/exchange/alert them to a package of snacks that tasted like soap (obviously must've been stored next to the laundry soap they had a huge display of that week). The clerk referred me to a manager who looked at the open box and said she didn't want the box and couldn't do anything to compensate. Not the least bit of interest in the fact that her store was selling inedible products, let alone in making the customer happy. Another time at another store I tried to drop off a bundle of regular phone books that every resident and every business gets for free every year. Again, referred to a manager. This time the manager looked scared and muttered something about not being able to accept anything not sent by corporate. Wouldn't give me her name to jot down with a note about the store refusing on my delivery checksheet. I have to suppose that the company either hires only stupid people for management or gives them so little authority that they have to behave like they're stupid. Either way, the bottom line has to be that they're not willing to pay enough for quality management.

say no to gangs:
I'm sorry, but on our application it says nothing about gang involvement. The district and regional manager might not be aware of the problem. I'm not condoning gang involvement just saying that you should call corporate and actually get something done instead of telling everyone and their brother not to shop there. If nothing is said to those who need to hear it, she'll continue to be employed there!

And Dollar General does not have high standards. It's Dollar General for crying out loud. You think with the pay they offer they have high standards?

I live in Waynesboro Virginia. I shop often at your Broad St store. I noticed a week ago when I was in the store one of your employees had a blue bandana wrapped around her wrist. I have had trouble myself with a family member being in the crip gang so iI know for a fact the blue bandana represents the crip gang. I thought maybe this woman had a problem with her wrist so I thought nothing more of it. Well today October 25th I noticed that she is still wearing it. This concerns me due to the fact that gangs are getting worse in our community. It was a real shock to know that dollar general condones their employees being in a gang. I will no longer be shopping at your store and I am going to let our local gang task force know about this. I will also be letting all friends and family member know about this. We are going to stand up to gang involvement and to gang violence in our town. I am very disappionted that we have to see it where we shop. I thought your stores would be more aware of this, maybe it is that your company just doesn't care and will hire anyone. I thought dollar general had higher standards that this.

I agree I'm a Cashier at Dollar General and the mangers, District Mangers and even Asst. Mangers are down right rude and very disrespectful to not only customers to their employees as well. They go as far as to Imply that we have no choice in working more hours, other employees from other stores will loose their jobs, We cannot have breaks and Have to do every peice of work they do not want to do!

They try to say that It's our duties to do these things but I for one have called corp. to ask about breaks and got told with a eight hour work shift I am supposed to have two fifteens and one hour break. I'm lucky if i get A fifteen much less that much! Then the customers complain to me about the treatment they are given by the mangers, and how the mangers are treating us employees. Other store's employees complain about this as well watching from their place of employeement and suggest we all find better jobs.

I agree with the ladies complaining, I am a cashier at DG and I have never treated a customer with such disrespect, they have every right to complain, yes we do have a lot of work to do, and not enough time to do it in, and it can be very stressful, but if you cannot compose yourself while waiting on customers than you have no business working there, just remember as a cashier, you should remember how you would like to be treated when your checking out at a store. and yes I have gotten rude customers, but you keep your cool, check them out and then curse to yourself. remember an unhappy customer is a lost customer, and you lose too many with your attitude and you will have a closed store.

Dollar General Scammed and cheated!

Female Managers have filed a Discrimination lawsuit against Dollar General because KKR & Dollar General Corp pay female manager less than male managers for the exact same work and job. Amazing how this day and age companies are allowed to engage is such discriminatory behavior while individuals take it in the chin. Oh thats rights, individuals can't afford to pursue their legal remedies because attorneys demand such outrageous fee's that only big business can afford.

No wonder individual rights are ignored in the courts.

I know where all of you are coming from. I was a store manager from August 2007 ubtill May 5, 2010. I was terminated for donating pennied items to local non profit organizations, I was told it was a company policy. I know that for a fact that isnt true. I also I have a copy of an email sent from the corporate office from John Rodgers stateing to remove from the floor and either doanate it to a non profit organization or destroy it, so I donated as I did time and time again. We had just gotten camaras in January, so we gathered up the items as we did in the past and called our local Childrens home and Womans Aid and crisis to pick up the items. We go a new DM the first of April and by April 27th he had already fired one assitant manager, lead clerk, and suspened me untill they came to a desision on weather I was going to be terminated or not. He told me that he would call me that Friday with a desision, well Friday came and went, so I tried to get ahold of the RM finally on May 5, 2010 he called me that afternoon and told me that they came to the desison to terminate my postion, they did this over the phone reall professional. In the mean time the DM was demonted back down to a store manager.
I loved my job I had never been written up, my store was at model store, never behind on planograms, and my store finally reached a million dollars in sales in April 2008, all my store review was always in the high 90"s. This company has some real issues.
I filed for unemployement, and waited on the deputy desision and it was in my favor I gave them a copy of the email and store employee hand book, but was funny was the told the unemployment office I left due to personel reason, I didnt leave I was terminated or I would still be there.

I work for Dollar General and have so for 6 years now. I have met many people in this small community that I grew up in. Never really knew them at all. Have come to know them all as a community proud people who consider this store their local mall. Many people young and older have worked in this store over the past years. Many things have changed over the years - some for the better. I, being older, became settled and afraid to change jobs and always held optimism towards my job, position and company. Over the past 16 months I have been shocked, disappointed and thoroughly disgusted to see how faithful and hard-working employees have been discarded and treated with about as much respect as the cardboard from last week's truck. I have worked diligently and when I finally stood up for my rights and others I have found myself railroaded and blackballed. I reported my concerns to the corporate office concerning our district manager and his refusal to handle the situation. Now my days are numbered as an employee as I feel the mounted pressure daily. It's very difficult to smile, be friendly and do my daily chores knowing the company I work for was built on BLOOD, SWEAT. TEARS AND TOTAL DISRESPECT FOR HONEST, HARDWORKING DECENT PEOPLE. I pray to God every night to help me out of this horrible situation. KARMA IS A REAL ### LADIES AND GENTLEMEN [AND I USE THAT TERM VERY LOOSELY].

Mickey, as rude as Jason is it is very childish of you to point out someone's spelling, grammar mistakes. Like he said in another post so what. This is the internet, not English class. For you to mention his spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes is very immature of you. Not everyone lives in an English speaking country, and even if they do not everyone speaks it well because it is not their first language. Seriously both of you need to grow up. Also perpahs punctuation is different from where you live, because aside from a few mistakes I don't see much problem with it. I think you are just being childish as him by bringing that in this complaint when it has nothing to do with the complaint. Learn to stay on topic. Or do you two have ADHD.

Dollar General Rude attitude and safety hazards!

Was in dollar general store in orlando florida, near home where I spend a great amount of money each week buying supplies for my business. The service there was very upsetting this past weekend so much so that I will no longer shop there while the employees that are running that store are no longer there. Plus you are never able to get what you want due boxes being in front of everything you are trying to get to. they are piled at least 8 feet high in the isles 6 out of 7 days a week. Store is sloppy un kept not very well stocked. Causes everything is in the boxes. OSHA needs to be told about it. That is my next thing to do is to contact them about this store. I feel there very poor management there. That has been for the past 4 months that I have noticed this and the treatment is very poor. This store number is #06671 @ Northgate s/c 5043 Edgewater Dr. orlando, florida 32810. Phone number is [protected]. Thank you for reading this.

Funny I worked at the 3728 store on clarcona ocoee and obt. Very close to the edgewater store and yes they all seemed to be very dirty in the orlando area. My manager saw how hard I worked so she started having me work there all the time with no help. Then the district manager made dicriminating comments to me and when I went above him I got fired for some bogus reason. I'm attempting to have him write me a formal apology but am having trouble with their legal department. I am boycotting all the dollar general stores in Orlando Florida because of this and how they treated me. They fired me for reporting the dm but kept the thieves that I made apparent to the store manager and the dostrict manager, wow

My son and I went to the Dollar General Store in Frisco City, Alabama 10-21-09 @ 16:08:39. I have never seen such rude behavior from a manager in my life. The cashier made a honest human mistake and when she asked for a void the manager was very rude to the cashier and my self. She wanted to know why the young lady needed a void and the truthful answer the young lady gave her seemed to be unacceptable. The manager accused me of not wanting the product but that wasn't the case the young lady accidentally scanned the item too many times. The manager made the young lady cry. She had no right to question her in front of us like that. She should have waited for the store to be empty but she was very rude and unprofessional. I think she needs to be disciplined for her actions. For me I will never go back into that store again, I will travel to Monroeville Alabama to do my shopping for now on. I have never witness such rudeness before.

I agree whole-heartedly. In Alachua County in the cities of Alachua and Gainesville I've experienced the very same treatment and more. Comments posted below. Dollar General stores in Alachua County Florida is epidemic in its customer service and general store upkeep. The last straw was when I purchased a 4-pack of socks in which two pairs had numerous holes. Returning the socks I had to endure the store managers accusation that I pulled on the plastic tie and tore the holes myself. The fact was I carefully used a pair of scissors, taking extra care as not to do the very thing this manager accused me of doing.

Other events of disgust are one person in the entire store on a busy Sunday with at least a dozen in line at the checkout. Go ahead and take whatever you want. So much for the safety of their employees. How about the time where the aisles were literally strewn with merchandise actually heaped into a disorganized pile of various products? One couldn't even go down that aisle due to the clutter. Here's the last one. (And there's more but I'll spare you). I was purchasing a bottle of shampoo and the cashier asks me how much it costs. "I don't know, I didn't look" I said. The cashier says "why not you should know these things". Yea, like it's my mission in life to learn all Dollar General's prices.

Message to management: How about hiring people with normal cognitive powers and not ###s? Secondly, how about training your managers and staff in customer courtesy. I highly resent the attitude and treatment of your managers and employees. Dollar General website has no customer service link! Does anyone at this corporation even care?
