Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Dollar General handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Dollar General and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Dollar General always getting rude comments when I walk in

I was getting a bowl of cereal and realized I had no milk it was getting late but I only live a min away from the local dg so I ran across the street and as soon as I walked in I hear this squeaky little voice say "you better hurry you only have one minute." Now it was on 957 so I knew they didn't close for three. I only needed milk. And it isn't my fault he did his safe count down early. So as I'm checking out I reminded this scrawny pony tail guy that I was a customer spending money and he said he didn't care I wasn't allowed in his store again. I totally felt harassed by a person that should be representing the store with wanting to make as much money as possible so I pledge to never spending another dollar in this store again as long as he remains in that store. His name is Damon of the Webberville dollar general in Michigan.

Dollar General store manager behavior

I need a full investigation of an incident that happened today 12/30/2018 at store located at 8105 Antoine Dr Houston, TX. 77088. I went to the store for regular shopping at DG on Antoine as I'm a daily customer, and was met with a long line. When I finally got to the register a customer forgot an item and directed her son to go back and get soda. I gave her mine as the son had taken longer than the cashier did to ring it up, and was instructed to not help anyone or offer any of my product in the line. I was shocked, but continued with my purchase. The cashier began to ring my grocery and made fun of me for offering my soda to the customer before, and demanded I move for the elderly customer behind me. No value at the counter! After the purchase was complete, I was then accused of using a counterfeit bill. The money was looked into by 2 employees, and one said it was up to the other. The money machine showed a watermark as stated by the Hispanic employee. The employee then threatened to call the police on me, and demanded I leave the store. An elderly woman was the next person in Iine paid for the grocery, but not before I let GEO (the name on the tag); but I know she is the current store manager because I visit frequently, that I would call corporate and the GM of her district. I also let her know that she was accusing me of a federal offense, and robbing me of money taken from the ATM. I'm also an ex employee that left on good terms! The money was shown to the CTV camera, and SSN should be shown. Investigate this to the furthest extent.

Dollar General employee/manager

It was approximately 8:45 on the 28th of December. We ran into the Dollar General store in Linville Indiana to purchase some double-sided tape. We walked back to the aisle where it was and immediately the manager was back there with us stocking us like we were going to steal something. We had only walked into the store. As I was walking out I noticed there was shower curtains at the end I'll for two dollars so I picked one up went to pay for it and it rang at four dollars I like I went to the picture and I thought it was two dollars and she's like yeah I'll go check in a real hateful demeaning tone. Then she comes back and says it was in the wrong spot I said well there is a lot of them in the wrong spot she's like I know I'm giving it to you. She doesn't need to be a manager she is rude and treat customers with no respect. She didn't have a name tag on or I would give you her name but it it was at Lynnville Indian Dollar General store thank you

Dollar General the cashier

I visited the local Dollar General, located at 1885 Crawfordville, Fl around 10:15 a.m. on December 24, 2018.

Once I reached the cashier, she asked me was I using EBT, even though my purchase consisted
of soap. I immediately asked her, why did she assume that I was using EBT? Her response was, it was due to my card being blue. She continued to say that EBT Cards are blue.( I don't know what color they are, since I don't receive assistance). This was a lie! My debit card was completely red. I informed her that it was red and that it was a Bank of America Card. She replied and said that she didn't know that. That was my point exactly, she had no clue what color my card was. I was asked this solely based on my skin color.

There was a Caucasian female in front of me in the check out line. The same cashier, who is also Caucasian, asked her was she paying with debit or credit. Guess what? The Caucasian customer in front of me in the line, was using a blue debit card. I found this very strange that Caucasian customers, are automatically assumed to be using either debit or credit and non Caucasians are assumed to be using EBT.

I found this behavior and practice very disgusting and distasteful and I was very offended.

Even though they're not supposed to ask what card you're using, they have to know what card you have so they can hit the correct button on their register to keep you from swiping your card multiple times.

Dollar General workers in store (cleveland, ohio glenville plaza 105th street)

To Whom It May concern,

I purchased a Coffee Maker on 12/22/18. The cashier did not give me the package. When I got home, I did not have it. so, I called and spoke with manager Demetrius. He said yes, we have it. I said ok I will be there tomorrow to pick it up what time do you open he replied 8:00. I get there, two cashiers were present, the coffee maker that I left on yesterday and that Demetrius said it would be here. One girl who was very unruly stated Oh, he's not here he went to lunch just a minute ago at that time it was 2:17 pm. She never identified herself as a manager. The other cashier was the one who rung me out the day before and did not give me my package. She too was very crude, she stay on cell phone texting with her ear plugs in her ears while standing at the cash register, with the head tied up in some scarf. It took just about the whole day before I got my package. Then on top of everything else they handed me the item without a bag. I would like to have this looked into no one needs to put up with this kind of service. the female manager name is Carolyn, please keep me inform of this issue. I think termination is needed.
Thank you
Yvonne Westfield

P.S. turned out Demetrius was not there 12/23/18

Dollar General customer service

When I went to check out the girl with dark hair, glasses, and a lip piercing was extremely rude. There was a line of customers waiting to be checked out but she just stood at the back side of the registers looking down. After a little while I pushed the button and then she came up to help. While everyones items were being scanned she was very rude and had a horrible attitude. Very disrespectful young girl and I certainly do not want to shop here again while she is working.

Dollar General very rude manager

Today I busted a dollar general store where I was not only very pissed off but rudely bombarded by the "manager". After following me and my sons to the bathroom upon exiting she proceeded to tell me she didn't hear my son wash his hands and that in her store no child would be running around without his hands washed.
A. His hands were thoroughly cleaned even though I'm the one who wiped his butt
B. This manager should know her place and shouldn't have even been listening at the door while me and my kids are trying to take care of our business.
She was very rude and had I not recently come to Jesus the situation would've ended badly. The lady "Shannon" is a rude individual who oversteps her boundaries and clearly needs to learn her place. She will make customers turn away from the store with her sour attitude towards CUSTOMERS. whom she had no business following and listening in on the restroom in anyways... weird.

Thank you.

Dollar General manager and assistant manager

My name is Donna Hine. I worked at the Dollar General in Elysburg pa 17824. The store manager and her asstince manager was very rude to me when I was working there, IF I did something wrong they would not tell me but get rude about it then they would talk about me behind my back. The asstince manager also was rude to customers, The one day I was on register and I had to call her up to do a manager special and she was very rude to me in front of the customer and the customer kept saying she was sorry to me cause of the way she was acting, Another time a older man came in to the store and asked for potting soil so I went with him to ask Jackie the asst manager and she was rude to him when she answered, After the gentleman left the store she looked at me and asked why cant customers just look for what they [censored]in need instead of bothering me(Jackie) said. At that point I realized this is not the kind of store I want to work for. I worked at Walmart as a stoker and I know we where never allowed to speak or act that way to any customers. I called off 2 days in the roll cause I hurt my right knee and iced it and rested it I also took pain medicine that made me sick and was awake throwing up the reason I called the 2nd time off Kimberly called and was rude and nasty on the voice mail she left me. I that you have a right to know how that store is being ran and how the manager and asst manager are treating not only employees but customers as well

Waited 5 minutes at point of sale as both employees on duty stood outside and smoked, as they came in and continued the conversation over by the donuts display, "the whole time a motion sensor bell was sounding my presence at the point of sale" was ignored for several more minutes, so I decided to leave and make purchase elsewhere, as I left the large blonde with face piercings made fun of me and laughed. Dollar General ban from store

My boyfriend and i were shopping one evening and i noticed we were being followed i pointed out and the employee heard me state that she followed us though the whole store. She then said that she almost caught me stealing. My boyfriend got upset for the false allegations and he used swear words to express his anger. She said then that we were ban from the store. I called the store and ask the manger to check the tapes and she will see that i didn't steal. I feel that it was very unfair.

Dollar General blue dot clothing for the family and accessories buy one get one free

I came in on my lunch to get some last minute Christmas gifts for my niece and nephew. I saw the ad displayed and picked out two outfits both $10 each, one for a girl and one for a boy, then I picked out the same pair of shoes in different sizes also in the Blue Dot and $8 each. Got to the front and checked out, after getting my receipt I questioned the cashier on the discount and that it did not take it off for the shoes. Assistant Manager came and took my receipt and went to the back to view the ad. The cashier was rude and asked me to move out of the way so she could take care of the other customers waiting in line. I grabbed my bags and moved over near the second register. She asked me to move again so she could go to the cigarette case, I was not in the way. She seemed irritated with me. The Assistant Manger came back to the front and made a call to the Store Manager, and they discussed what the Accessories meant on the ad. Then she turned to me and said that it was clothes only. I did not have time to argue about the accessories always meaning shoes included since I was running late on my lunch so I left upset because of the service I was receiving.

I dont know why you took a very well cared for store with friendly employees, stocked shelves, enough help when busy & turned it into the worst store out there. U fired good employees & mgrs & now the line is at least 10 deep everytime I go in' the shelves are bare '& theres boxes all over the aisles & only one person working that doesnt know much at all. Cant ask no questions cause he dont know anything. Hes polite '& easygoing cause anybody else in his shoes would have shagged [censored] when things got hectic which is all the time. Am including pictures of the store. Im sure u have alot of theft because he cant run the front & watch thieves too. U can find emoty boxes all over the store without the product in them. Its a shame cause thst store was the only store that kept me coming for longer than I was going to. Now its hard to go shopping there cause they out of everything. I had called to see if u carried apple cider vinegar '& was told "I don't know u will just have to come '& look" my reason for calling is this store is 5 miles from home & did not wsnt to go that far for nothing. I did anyway '& went to the store on hastings because they told me they had it but did not. The store im talking about is on willow creek in amarillo, tx

Dollar General assistant manager

So i walked into the Westphalia Dollar General store Monday night after work around 5:30pm and the Assistant Manager Lisa was complaining out loud to the other employee about complaints that are being made about her.. carrying on while there is customers in there shopping . While i know everyone in the store could hear her entire conversation and about how innocent she is and how everyone is picking on her. I can promise you that is not case.. she doesn't make sure the store is nice and tidy. Lisa is constantly complaining about someone or something every single time I go in there. This store needs a new decent.. nice Assistant Manager..
