Dollar General service

Dollar general store in Perry Ok needs better people running it. The store is constantly in a mess and I and others customer complain how slow they are and bad it looks. They smoke outside when there are a lot of customers in store. They don't have leadership in the store. Store manager is in back when they need help. Employees don't look happy. Something needs to be done.

Dollar General manager at talladega store on east st n

This is a copy of the letter emailed to Marlene White District Manager, Alabama

On 7/16/2017 approximately 8:30 I purchased a few items from my local Dollar General in Ragland, Alabama. I frequent this store regularly so the staff and I have an on-going relationship. They are always friendly, polite, helpful and a pleasure to do business with. The same day at approximately 11:30 I entered the Dollar General on East St N, Talladega, AL to purchase forgotten items that morning. I get a Coke from the cooler, begin shopping and realize I have no cash for my purchase. I place the Coke back in the cooler and proceed to exit the store when I am aggressively accosted by the store manager, a thin elderly woman with long blonde hair. She demands “Where is the Coke you had?”. I politely tell her I had returned to cooler. She then demands to search my purse. Caught completely off guard, intimidated and having nothing to hide I open my purse so she can see. She demands I open all three compartments, which I do. She then tells me to pull up my shirt so she can check my pockets. Again, trying to comply I lift my shirt and show her that nothing is in my pockets. I again politely say Ma’am I put the Coke back in the cooler. She then states “I have your tag number do not ever come in this store again”. I am mortified and highly upset. I get in my car and while texting a friend about the situation I overhear the manager on the phone talking about me. She is standing directly in front of my car telling someone how I was now just sitting in my car. I politely say Ma’am I will wait on whoever you are calling, no problem. I wanted to clear my name and understandably highly upset. She states that is what she wants me to do. I was unclear whom was on the phone but assumed it was the police. I waited for ten minutes while she stood in front of my car glowering at me. She walked away for maybe a minute or two but told a gentleman employee I was a thief and he needed to stand in her place. These few minutes allowed me time to process the events and realize regardless of who she was talking to she had no right to detain me and how ridiculous this situation was. Since the police never arrived I proceeded to drive off. She began another phone conversation and walked behind my car as I exited the parking lot. I next stopped at my Dollar General in Ragland to find out what the company’s procedures were and the manager’s opinion on how the situation was handled. I am told there is a strict policy of never pursuing anyone outside of store, manager should not have searched my purse much less asked me to lift my shirt. Tamika, the Ragland manager said if shoplifting is suspected the manager is to call the police and review the store video surveillance. She gave me the district manager Marlene White’s name and phone number and told me to not only call her but to also call Talladega police and report. I was so upset when the incident occurred my good judgement momentarily left. I should have called the police myself and demanded tapes be reviewed immediately. However, I am 51 years old woman who has never been so aggressively pursued, spoken to in that manner or accused of stealing anything. In hindsight I realize even if I overlooked how this manager had treated me once she found nothing on my person she should have immediately said “Thank you ma’am for complying and have a good day”. This would have defused the entire event and I would have thought nothing about it. However, everything about this incident was uncalled for, rude and totally inappropriate not to mention poor customer’s relations. If not for my experiences in the Ragland store I would never shop Dollar General again and express my displeasure loudly with any audience I could get. Instead, I am now demanding a review of the surveillance tapes to prove my innocence, the manager either fired or demoted, the Talladega police called clearing my name and an apology from Dollar General upper management. No one should ever experience the intimidation, humiliation, false accusations and embarrassment that I did today in Talladega. I will expect a call from the district manager, Marlene White, once this situation is rectified.

Thank you for your prompt and through attention to this matter.

Dollar General staff behavior

As local residents of Oceans Springs who live close to the 2426 Government St. store, my husband and I frequent it often sometimes several times a week for groceries, household items etc. We have seen multiple times, employees and managers go outside to the front of the building to take their breaks. Everyone deserves a break and that is not the issue. However, the issue is that they do so in the front of the store very close to the entrance. While they are on these breaks they smoke cigarettes and sit down either in the chairs for sale or we have even seen one employee withog dark hair open the ice chest that contains the bagged ice and sit on the ledge to get the cool from inside the freezer while smoking cigarettes. Today, the employee we saw walked outside and sat in the plastic adirondack style chairs stacked for sale out front by the entrance and lit her cigarette and made a call on her cell while patrons parked and walked by her to enter and exit the store. There was another employee inside working behind he counter. As I stated earlier, everyone deserves a break, but maybe that break should be taken where customers can't see the employee or have to smell their cigarettes. Pictures from today attached. I do not have pics of the ice chest incident but we have both seen it separately and on more than one occasion. I value my job and in no way want anyone terminated for this issue., just clean it up a little and if they don't have a place out back or on the side to break, please give them one. Sincerely, frequent customer, Jennifer K. Ocean Springs MS.

Dollar General service

Most of the cashiers are rude. They are NOT friendly & makes me want to leave but here in fairfax SC, I don't have a choice. During the busiest time of day they have 1 cashier n maybe another will come up n help (open another register). It's extremely hard to shop due to being blocked from the shelves. The shelves are NEVERY EVER STOCKED. Cold items go bad because they sit our all day long

Dollar General no air conditioning in two local stores when temps outside were high 90s.

I was in your store on Airline Blvd. in Portsmouth, VA Friday, July 14 and also visited the one on George Washington Highway last Saturday July 8. Neither store had any air conditioning. It was so hot when you walked in the door it felt like the heat was on. The poor ladies working were sweating. It was horrible. With temps in this area between 93 - 97 all week with heat factors between 105 - 112, how can you expect the employees, much less customers to withstand those temps? It is absurd to put your employees in such dangerous and unsafe circumstances to have to work in that heat and how do you expect customers to stand it? I had a large shopping list from your sales ad but I grabbed one item, paid and left. It was just too hot to stay in the store. I hope you are compensating your employees for having to endure that with unlimited drinks at least.
The health department surely won't let your stores stay open with no air if they know about this. I recall going to the Airline Blvd. store last summer and it was very hot in that store then too. Seems like it would be the landlord's responsibility but something needs to be done. I won't be going back during the hot summer months for sure. . Please look into this immediately.

Dollar General customer service

I am a very frequent shopper who visits many of your locations and spend alot of money. TONIGHT the service I received was very unsatisfying .I was only allowed to use one legit coupon when I needed just two items. If your company accepts coupons, why can't I never use them at your stores. I love shopping at your stores but it's not good when a customer cannot receive your advertised savings. Why advertise sales and digital coupons if we can't use them. Talking bout others commit frauds. This is false advertisement. So tell me how can your company fix this problem? Ms. BRENT

I'm sooooo tired of couponers complaining. It's getting out of hand. They want you to bend over backwards and waste valuable time to kiss their backsides. Worst invention ever!

Dollar General employee

Every time I come to visit this store, the employee named Jordan is always so rude. You walk up to the check out line, and he never says "how are you" or "did you find everything okay?" I work in customer service, and I just find this very rude. He always rolls his eyes, and it seems like we are a bother to him. He never smiles, nor says thanks and have a good day when leaving. He seems annoyed every time I am checked out by him. It's making me not want to ever come into this store anymore because it is uncalled for.

Dollar General cleanliness of store

The dollar general store number 10120 in Altoona, PA has to be the dirtiest store I have ever been in. I don't think they have ever washed the floor since the store opened years ago. They seem to only sweep the floor once a week if at all. The store isn't stocked well either . There only seems to be one clerk working the evening shift. If there is two on duty the other clerk must hide in the office all night. This store needs a new general manager that cares about the appearance and the customer.

Dollar General coupon

I just in the dollar general in Thomaston Ga. I went to purchase Mr. Plumber, as i saw the product there was a coupon for 65 cents off now. As the employee rung up the product, she said the coupon had expired and i couldn't use it. i ask her why, i told her i didn't bring the coupon into the store it was affixed to the product, she ask the store manager (Brittany) about the product ans she stated she could not honor the coupon and i ask why not? she said the store would get a huge fine if she did. I told her the the customer is getting misled thinking the coupon can be used, but to find that's not the case once you go to the register. The 65 cents isn't the problem. Your employees are placing product on the shelves and misleading the customer. Brittany was very rude and has very little reasoning skills. I be reached at 478.319.9243 Derek BowmN

Dollar General employees actions and attitudes

I just moved into a new area, so I am using a different family dollar than the one I used to use. And at this one the employees are very rude and nasty towards their customers! Not to mention they close the store early every day! Today is the 3rd time I have went and made it to the store BEFORE CLOSING TIME, (today I was 13 minutes early), the last time I was 18 minutes before closing and they already had the doors locked! And when I pointed out that it was only 7:47 (they close at 8:00) she got rude with me and told me it didn't matter what the sign said, that she closes the store when she gets damn ready to! And this is the 3rd time this has happened and I've only lived in this area and been using this store for 2 1/2 weeks! Not to mention how rude they are in general when I do manage to make it in the store. I once asked where candles were located and was told they had them but they " didn't have time to do my shopping for me, and told me they couldn't be that hard to find on my own"! Another time I was there it was real busy and the only checkout counter they had open had a very long line, and another customer asked if they could open another one of the 2 other registers to save time and hurry things along so they cold get the customers checked out and waited on in a timely fashion, andthey told that customer that they could put in an application to be manager if they wanted to run the store and give orders, but until then they could and should keep their opinions to themselves! I think the attitudes and actions of the employees of this store are very disrespectful, degrading and just out right rude! And there is no reason an employee should ever talk to a customer like that for any reason! I have always liked shopping at dollar general stores, but I don't know if I will continue using this store. I shouldn't have to worry about being treated disrespectfully by employees ANYWHERE I go, ESPECIALLY for no reason! The Dollar General I am referring to is the one at 1111 Poland Ave. New Orleans, La. 70117

Dollar General the associates

On 7/14 I was shopping at dollar general there was 1 checker and a line of 10 or more people when we addressed it to two of the girls standing behind the checkout that were just standing there they said we are in middle of shift change and refused to put a drawer in. When 2 other girls got there they were told to clock in and help us 1 girl said she didn't want to get in trouble for clocking in early and she did but they then argued about not getting to check drawers. The 2 first girls had poor customer service and was more worried abut leaving then assisting the other girls were mad when they got to register but did help and aplogize. This is not the first time we have had an issue with these employees those girls have the worst attitudes towards helping and they should not be allowed to work at an establishment that involves customer service. Will not be shopping here again will take my business elsewhere

Dollar General unethical behavior

On 7/14/2017 I was shopping with my best friend at Dollar General on 3785 Zimmerman rd. Erie, PA 16510. We stopped there to purchase some Tide that was on sale for both of our homes because it was such a good deal. When checking out I was told I could only use 2 of the 4 coupons that we had with us. So I explained to the cashier that my friend would/could just check out himself with 2 of them seeing 2 Tide detergents where for his household anyway. We had only decided to check out together thinking it would be easier for us. The cashier said she had to ask a manager if my friend would be able to check out separately using the coupons now. When the manager (his name was Russell) came to the checkout he was very rude right from the beginning. He disrespectfully said "you need to read the coupon, it says 2 per household"! I replied "but we don't live in the same household". To which he responded impolitely "I don't care, how am I supposed to know that". My best friend then said "well why are you assuming that we live together then"? Even the customers in line behind us were shocked by how rude he was talking to us. There was a woman in line behind us and she even asked if she could buy it for him and he ignorantly told her no! When I asked the manager for his name he started to walk away from me, so I stated that I was going to report how ill-mannered he was. As he continued to walk away he laugh and said "have fun and good luck". I shop at the different Dollar stores often seeing I am a single mother and am always trying to save a little money. My best friend, whom is a gay man goes shopping with me from time to time because I'm the one with a vehicle. Now I don't often go to this specific Dollar General but I started working not to far from it. After the incident today I have to admit that I am discouraged to give my business to somewhere that employs people that do not know how to speak to people politely. I honestly was in shock with how he treated us. Needless to say we left without his detergent. I am not sure what can or could be done over this situation, I'm hoping you will take this message into consideration and make a decision. I greatly thank you for taking the time to read this and I'm hoping this can be resolved somehow. Thank You, Antonia M. Emerson

Dollar General manager / cashier

Thursday July 13th around 8:45 pm
I went in to get some items that were on sale the Gain fabric softener $2.95 had 6 and 2 Tide Simply which was also on sale for $2.95 cashier rang me up I show her the $3/15 on my phone which I had taken your survey that prints out on every receipt I've gotten, she goes into the office manager then comes out and says I cant take this is fraud, excuse me this is right from you receipt and I showed him he still refused to accept and said it came from corporate not accept. I have never in the past had an issue using your coupon that I take and it gives the option to have the coupon sent to your phone, I never been so embarrassed in my whole life there were other people in line and he yelled out fraud, needless to say I left all the stuff on the counter and left, I had an issue with that store about 2 years ago and hadn't been back only reason I went last was because other stores were out of the products I wanted . I will be sure to tell all my friends and family to never go to that store, so now I've missed out on the deal because they only had a few of the sale items and I didn't get to buy them . Unhappy and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau

Dollar General line backed up at register, called for help, woman came up saw each had a couple items each and complained and went back saying he didnt need help.

I went into Dollar general store at 2140 HWY 905, #09616.I had grabbed me 4 bags of candy and 2 half gallons of icecream and got in line to pay for it.The guy at the register is new(I go to this store alot since it is across the street from me) and the gals were in back chatting, putting up stock. The man was having a difficult time and there were 6 people in line ahead of me and I had icecream. So I yelled back for help. First she proceeded to tell me if he needed it he had to call. The man could barely work the register let alone take time to ask for help. She finally came up, looked at everyone in line and said, oh you all only got 2 things apiece, why did you yell help for that and went to the back.So rude!I had 6 items and 2 were icecream. The man in front of me goes, I guess we arent important since we only got 2 items, then looked at my icecream.Like I said, I live across the street.I get home open the icecream and my daughters were what happened mom?So I made sure you know.

Dollar General cashier at the n. salisbury, md 21804 location (wears medical foot brace)

To whom this may concern your employee (Caucasian w/support shoe for injury) is always rude. About 2 months ago I was shopping for just a piece of candy and she automatically assumed that I was going to use food stamps. For one I do not use food stamps and secondly I always come to that location with the same cashier and get cash back off my debit card. I asked her to never identify a customer like that. She should ask what card will they be using not say would you like to ring this up as food stamps. This to me is a stereotype and a rude way to come for those who are less fortunate. Today while cashing out I wanted cash back. She was upset that I chose to stay at her line because I thought the machine worked better but it gave the same result as the other one. I then requested 40$ cash back. Upon receiving it I asked for 2 five dollar bills and 1 ten dollar bill the rest didn't matter she lied and said she didn't have it when I looked at about 10 fives and 5 tens. She then went to the blue cash bag and was left with only one option and that was to give me 8 fives. She went on to say she couldn't go to the bank today and all that for nothing. This whole transaction took a lot of my lunch time all because she was trying to be smart. I let her know I was going to complain. It isn't fair to be rude and try to hinder my time when all I wanted was to buy an item get cash back and move on. I ask that you speak to her about good customer service and that she treats all customers equal no matter gender or race. I work like anyone else and I give respect to get the same respect in return. Thank you

Dollar General customer service

I am submitting a complaint in regards to the Hemingway, SC store. I am a manager of a financial institution and have worked in customer service for over 30 years. The first lady was texting on her cellphone while I was waiting for her to start ringing my items up. Then she had a problem so the other lady said enter check manually and she didn't know how. This young lady said her name was Ryan and I'm not sure if that is her real name or not. She had a problem with the machine printing the endorsement on our company check. She asked if I used that type off check there before and I said yes ma'am almost every month when we need supplies. Well to cut a long story short she was very rude. It was as though she was very frustrated at the machine but made me feel as though my business was not appreciated. She told me that she couldn't give me a receipt. I said I am not trying to be difficult but I have to have a receipt because this is for a business. She acted very aggravated but I wanted my ID and check back. She said she couldn't void and redo order until check clears. Which made on since what so ever. Fondly, I guess she got herself together and told me she was sorry in a no care voice after I asked her, her name. Then handed me receipt and walked to other register. She didn't bother to make sure I got all my bags. I could have went to the Johnsonville store but I went to Hemingway store because I was in the area and that's where I've always went. By the actions of your employee I will rather go to Freds or even drive to Wal-Mart's.
