Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Dollar General handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Dollar General and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Dollar General coupon redemption

I recently shopped at a Dollar General on Saturday October 6, 2018. I have downloaded the app which is supposed to enable you to "clip" coupons for use in store. You enter your phone number on the pin pad at the register and coupons are supposed to come off. While in line, the two customers before me stated that their coupons were not coming off the total. Both cashiers stated that they have noticed this before and there's nothing they can do about it. The one cashier in my line then stated that the company should not give out the coupons if they're not going to work. When I got to my order the same thing happened. I entered my phone number. The pin pad said I had 129 coupons. But not all of the coupons worked and I was charged full price for items that have coupons and I still have the coupons because they're not expired. I contacts corporate via email and got the most generic response. I demanded a refund for the coupons that did not come off. Their response was...
"Thank you for your submission for DG Digital Coupon support.

To confirm, we verified that your account is active and that you should not have ongoing issues redeeming offers that you have added to your DG Digital Coupon account. However, there may be other reasons that you digital coupons did not redeem at the register.

Below are listed 9 important tips for DG Digital Coupon success. Hopefully they will assist with your next trip.

Tips for Success:

1. Tell your cashier that you're using DG Digital Coupons.
2. Ensure you have clipped the coupon to your digital coupon account.
3. Make sure your account information matches
4. Confirm the correct products for each coupon are in your basket.
5. Enter your full phone number at register/ Pin Pad. (no leading one)
6. If the cashier has already totaled prior to you entering your phone number at the register pin pad, ask them to press the (clear button) and re-total.
7. If the coupon is date specific ($5/$25 coupons) please ensure you are using those on the correct dates.
8. Be sure you are not using a paper manufacturer coupon for the same item.
9. Digital coupons are valid for a single use only unless otherwise specified and is then removed after that use.

We appreciate your feedback and hope we have been helpful in solving any issues that may have occurred.

Kind Regards,

Celene Sebastian

What about my email wasn't clear?! Your coupons are not working! I told them this response was unacceptable and I will no longer shop there and still want my refund! Let's see what happens next. What a joke!

FYI this store only sells the size 6.5oz. So, again, the coupon is more than valid!

Yes the coupon is eligible because I wouldn’t buy it if it wasn’t. I don’t blame the store I blame the corporate so being rude and responding with obvious answers is childish. Have some real info about it. That I haven’t already figured out. I have the coupon and the product as proof. So move on to someone else’s comment

same thing, coupons clipped and you enter your phone number at checkout and then it won't take them off or use them, but will say you have x number coupons. This with coupons that they even have a note on the display about a digital coupon. What a scam. PS folks, when you do what they tell you to do, and it doesn't work, that is called fraud at some point past just technical issues... Class action lawsuit coming soon probably ...

If the item is eligible then again call tech support to have the issue fixed, once it is return the item and rebuy with your coupon. But they are not going to refund the coupon and leave it in your account to use again. That is not fair to everyone else who only gets to use it once. Technology sucks especially at dg.

Number 1 if your coupons didn't come off you are NOT entitled to a refund, they are still in your account to be used. Number 2 corporate will not help, you need to call tech support. And number 3 don't blame the stores this is not under their control.

Dollar General visual

Store is continually trashed along with sidewalks outside . Cigarette butts and trash surround the area employees take breaks . This used to be the best DG in the area but it's a shame the manager is never there to oversee the store . It's gone downhill ever since the last manager left a couple years ago . The store is located right off interstate 24 and is embarrassing for visitors to see this .

Dollar General everything

Today (10/10/2018 about 12pm) We took a trip to our closest dollar store here in Savannah (11975 Apache Ave, Savannah, GA 31419)
First of all, the smell. This store smells disgusting every time we go inside. It's completely run down.
The cashier's on duty are a mother and daughter which sat the whole time at the register gossiping about customers coming in and being "in their business"
There's not much on the shelves because it's all in boxes taking up isles we couldn't even walk through.
There was an African American man buying cigars and he did not have his ID when asked but the sale was still made (which we are also reporting)
The outside of the store is disgusting and dirty, an attraction for the homeless for sure! A store like this does not belong in Savannah by any means! We will be reporting all of this to the city inspectors as well because clearly this store is only concerned about the money they rack in rather than the overall customer experience. There is so much mess outside of this store we even saw needles probably used for drugs by the front door!

Dollar General mcmechen wv dollar general

McMechen WV is thankful for having a Dollar General so close however when we go into the store we can not get through the aisles with carts because there are constantly boxes piled up that contains products that needs to be put away and there is stuff laying on the floors causing a risk for people of falling. The employees in this store are constantly outside smoking or working on their cars. A customer in front of me said something to the employee about all of the stuff laying around and the response from the employee was "well, if we can reduce the hours of the store maybe we can get some stuff done". Not a good response. If the employees would stay inside the store and actually work maybe they could get stuff done. There are a lot of elderly people who use this store and someone is going to fall with all of the stuff laying around and Dollar General is going to end up with a law suit when they get hurt. Someone from corporate may want to look into this location ASAP.

The new dm doesn't care, all stores are like this. Corporate keeps payroll low so employees give up. If bosses don't care why should employees. It's sad but true

Dollar General cleanliness

So, 4 years ago We moved in to a neighborhood with the dollar general store that was nice and clean. The staff were very helpful and polite. When you walked in younwere greeted with a warm welcome and a great big smile. Then one day we noticed unfamiliar faces working on the register.

These new faces were not friendly, if anything they are rude and make you feel unwelcomed. New management has taken over and unfortunately not for the better.

Dollar General coupons

I went to the Oregon ohio store this evening to pick up a couple of things. While I was there I saw that there was a $2 off $8 off glad purchase that should have printed on the bottom of my receipt. So I picked up 1 wax melt and 2 candles for a total of $9. This should have qualified me for the $2 Coupon but it did not print on my receipt. These items were not my intent to purchase, but purchased to get the $2 off. Needless to say I am upset that it didn't print, if I had known it was an issue or misprint in store, I would not have gotten these 3 items. They were an impulse because of the coupon. I hope that you guys correct this problem, or you are going to have some irrate shoppers.

Dollar General the retail environment

I think I know of a way to not only boost sales and have extra help at these retail stores, not just Dollar General but Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, and others. I know most of these stores operate having just 2 employees working at a time. Usually the manager who works the floor and 1 cashier who checks out the customers. Having only 1 register open at a busy store is very detrimental to business and causes customers to leave. At the corporate level if they look at sales and see only 1 register being run, that's the reason why these stores have very few hours to get things done. Having 2 registers running, the way these stores are ran, does diminish the amount of work is done. However by having 2 registers going, regardless of what the sales are, would increase customer satisfaction because of less wait time. At the corporate level, seeing 2 registers running almost continously would suggest that these stores are busy enough to give them additional hours to be able to have 2 or more registers open and have at least 3+ people working at a time. Bottom line is this, stop the practice of just using ONE register to accomplish things.

Dollar General management

Manager at location damaged my vehicle by jumping on and kicking my vehicle. Ran out of the store and immediately jumped onto my hood and kicked out my front headlight all because he believed a passenger in my vehicle night have been stealing from his store. Whether that person is guilty or not of said such alleged act is not for him to hold anyone else or their property liable. I am will be pursuing into civil matters.
This particular manager needs to be advised of and updated on any revisions that may be located in this employees standard SOP for proper procedures on suspected shop lifters. As well as any advisement for the Manager in understanding their own safety in matters of situations such as this.

Dollar General the manager of dollar general on deans bridge road in augusta georgia

This particular Dollar General has a sign up saying store closing anytime in the past that I've went into the store the attitudes with the workers have just been awful so I've not been in the store in close to a year but because I seen the sign that the store was closing I went in to look at the sales and again was treated very bad especially from the manager who when I was checking out after seeing the put merchandise back when they told me they weren't accepting coupons made a comment about the items that I had that there was a lot of items did I put them in my purse or did I just set them down and I told her she was more than welcome to look in my purse but that I put them back in the proper places where I got them and again she told me they were not taking digital or paper coupons and saw me leave the register and go back and put my items and come right back where she checked me out I have had instances in the past where it's racial in my opinion I don't appreciate one for being treated poorly anytime I went in the store but especially do not like being accused or accusations being made when they walked around me the entire time I was in the store I was under the impression you had to have good reason to accuse someone or if you think they are shoplifting you can't approach them until they leave the store cuz they always have the opportunity to pay for the items it was an embarrassment and even if the store was not closing I would not be going back and I would make sure no one I know goes back I will be making a review and a post on Facebook about this particular store

Dollar General 1898 almaville rd location

I and the people of this community were very happy to get a Dollar General store so convienent to us. Now, we choose to go anywhere else except there. That store is a mess! The products are never stocked, there are racks of unpacked items lining the isle and the service is awful. I feel like I need to stay awhile and help stock shelves while I'm there. I've been in several Dollar General stores and this is the only one that feels like I'm walking into a rummage sale every single time. I keep wanting on things to change but they never do. If this isn't handled soon, I will take my business elsewhere and I will suggest to my neighbors to do the same.

Dollar General posted sales

I went shopping at one dollar general on highway 67 in Biloxi ms and got some great deals. Several sizes I need were out so the worker suggested I try another store. So I went to one on Lemoyne blvd, diberville, ms. They didn't have the same things on sale. And the things that were clearly on the 50% table weren't even on sale. I even had to take the employee to the table where there sat 3 buckets of the stuff. When I complained about things not being priced right, he said well, I. Any do anything about it. So why is a pair of sleep pants $3.75 in one store and less than 5 miles away the same exact pair is $12.50? It's extremely frustrating for those of us on a fixed income. I'm clearly disappointed.

Dollar General new shopping carts

I go to the west 10th St. Dollar Store in Indianapolis IN frequently. Recently they added poles to the shopping carts so the carts can not be brought outside the store. This makes it extremely difficult for customers who purchase a lot of products or items from your store to get them to their vehicle, especially those who are pregnant such as myself. I asked the employee if the reason for the poles were because people were stealing the carts and she stated, "No, it's because people leave them outside." This blew my mind. She also stated this store is supposed to be a quick stop and grab store not for big shopping. If this is something corporate has mandated you may want to rethink this new implementation. If not and this has been done by the particular store manager can you please ask them to stop it.
Thank you for your time.

Corrine Clark

For the people who walk, pushing a cart home is their transportation. Unfortunately that leaves the store fewer carts for customers to use. Stores lose money when they have no carts. Something had to be done. For those who buy a lot, make multiple trips to the vehicle or have extra person to help.

Dollar General employee working from opening to closing

Do you think it's fair to have one employee, who is not the manager, working from opening to closing? Often, he has been the ONLY employee in the store. How can he be at ease to take the mandatory break, even to use the restroom when he is alone in the store? This cannot be legal. I'm referring to the store on Main Street in Salem, SC. I, as well as many others, depend on this store so as not to have to drive 15-20 miles.

Dollar General cashiers

I want to know why in the hell everytime I go into DG store in Wellsville, Kansas...there is only one damn cashier and the line is 45 minute wait cause other cash register is closed? This store has been open and never used only one register WHY? I am fed up going here and standing in line cause they don't want to open another register to help their customers! I left my products I intended to buy on floor and walked out as did several other customers, it needs Addressed by the District Manager or he/she needs replaced as the manager if this store does it ridiculous! They need to hire more cashier's and stop being cheap company and step up for their customers!

Dollar General cashier

The cashier that worked the morning shift at store number #18244 (shakina) is very rude and should not be in customer service dealing with the public. As soon as you give her a coupon she holds up the line just to read the whole coupon word for word and call a manager. Instead of scanning the coupon to see if it would go through she complains i hate coupons to the consumers. If you don't like dealing with coupons then you are in the wrong profession. The coupon I gave her stated $5 of 3 gain products and that you can only use 1 in a transactions. The idiot cashier was just about to tell me that I can only get 1 gain product when the coupon stated $5 off 3. The manager had to ring the things up. The same idiot cashier said that a 5 ounce product is considered trial size which is the dumbest thing ever. When it came time to pay she said so how are we going to do this this ebt, cc, or debit card. I was not even going to lower myself to this person by answering her because she is not worth it. If this store wants to keep its consumers happy you need to put this girl in the back of on the floor stocking the shelves.

Dollar General corporate dg weekly ad

In Pine island mn today I went to get Diet
Pepsi 12 packs tonight Oct 6 at 7:30 that was on sale for 3/$10. The ad says through Oct 6 not stopping at 7:00 pm. I called another store and they were selling sale price until 10:00 pm. How can you have a corporate ad but it differs from store to store. Today was first day of stopping the sale at 7 pm. I looked at the ad again and it said nothing about stopping at 7pm. I asked the clerk and he said it was DG policy. That was when I called another store. I was very disappointed with only our store stopping the sale at 7 pm. Any questions please contact me.

Dollar General rude and obnoxious employees

I just left Dollar General #02355 and am appalled at the vulgarity two employees were using in the store. I purchased a little over $20.00 but might've purchased $100.00 had I not been so dismayed!
I know I read the name tag on one employee being named Mona who was Hispanic. The other one was also Hispanic. She kept saying the f... you word. They were using words like [censored], f..., stupid...all quite loud that I heard them three rows away and at the front of the store all while they were towards the back. They were yelling all of this to a man that was there playing around with them also being obnoxious! Yelling, "I ain't got time for your [censored]! F... you!" This took place over a period of 15 minutes that I was there. I can't imagine how much longer it had gone on or goes on daily. Shame on them! There were children, elderly and several other people. The Manager had to have heard them. She did nothing! Unless she was not the Manager but she was the only Caucasian lady there and she was not talking like that.
I would appreciate it if you have a class for these ladies on how to act in public, especially at My Dollar General!

Dollar General bathroom service

I have visited 2 dollar general stores in Bristol, Tn. so far in the past year; and when I desperately had to use the bathroom, they would always say that it was out of order. How can the employees work without using the bathroom? Some people walks to where they have to go, and when we shop at the store, we deserve as much respect as the employees. There's no way that the bathroom are out of order each time we go in!
