Disney Movie Club bad customer service/false charges

Disney Movie Club sends me my director's selections every month and charge my credit card, even though I DECLINED the selections! I refuse every package marked "return to sender"; they only offer store credit, won't credit my card... you'd think they don't want to waste their time and postage by mailing me something I didn't order.

They also take over a month to respond to email inquiries, very poor customer service!

The Disney Movie Club (DMC) is committing a serious scam!
They intentionally lure you to join their membership for FREE, and get the first 4 movies at discount. But what they hide from you is that you have to buy their other movies at REGULAR price (over priced, of course) before you can get rid if it.
This is a generous business idea to reach into people’s wallets! I can not believe that Disney, with its reputation, would base its revenue on such a lame business.
Technically, yeah, DMC is doing nothing wrong. It makes up its own rules, and reach out for you. All you need to do is to fall into their trap. However, as many people have been complaining, this is a serious scam that can catch people out of their guard. Who would think that Disney would set up a trap like this?
I have cancelled the credit card I used to join the club. DMC didn’t spell out that they would store my credit card information. If everything about the membership itself stays on the edge of a crime, this definitely falls to the other side. All merchandise would ask for your permission to store your credit card information explicitly. But DMC does NOT!
Well, I think they have great lawyers so they can spell anything legal.
Anyway, this is the DMC. Shame On You!

I am having the same problems! they have took money out of my checking two different times and i have not received any movies from them yet! i am very frustrated with them and want my $70.00 dollars refunded back! i have declined their movie of the month the last 2 months, but they continue taking money that is not due to them! What kind of disney movie club is this? can't trust them...if we are bound by their contract, shouldn't they be true to their end of the bargain too? I WISH I HAD NEVER JOINED THE DISNEY MOVIE CLUB!

I WILL CONTINUE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM...I WANT MY MONEY THAT THESE SCAM ARTIST TOOK FROM ME! THIS IS A FAKE AND FRAUDULANT MOVIE CLUB!

I have has my share of problems with the company who has now taken me to collections, I called up to pay for three movies in full plus rush shipping since I was moving, I paid about $20.00 or so for the extra shipping for 3 movies, but I only received 1 movie for only $7.00 worth, then I called and complained, they said they did not know I wanted the movies all at once! I said why would I pay $20.00 for shipping on a $7.00 movie? So I told them to not send the others unless the shipping was free, they said they had already shipped to my new address and that I was going to be billed for the shipping because I did not call in time to talk about the situation. So now I refuse to pay their $10.00 for the shipping of their mistake, and they have taken me to collections. I have sent many letters back trying to contact managers and so forth but I get no response. So until they take off the $10.00 I do not owe then I will not pay for the rest of my bill that they were supposed to take on the first call. On that first call they said they would charge me for all three movies, they did not, they only charged for the one. Now I owe money for the other two movies. They will only get it when they take the shipping off for it!

Here are some steps to take- pass them along!
1. Send a complaint to the State agency that handles these complaints- Attorney General, etc. Send a copy of your complaint form to DMC as well, with a letter that you are attempting to resolve the situation and cancle the membership- cite the decpetiveness and misleading information, and the contact issues. Send these letters with confirmation of delivery from the USPS. THIS CONFIRMATION IS VERY IMPORTANT! This next step is the most important: DEMAND A COPY OF YOUR AGREEMENT. It must be in writing or dictated written form. The dictiation MUST be by a legally authorized individual (ie: court reporter) for the tape to be used as evidence.
2. Call the bank and tell them of the issue; ask to get a different card. If DMC does not have your information, then you cannot be charged. IF they attempt to push the charge by using the new card, then they are commiting larceny or theft and fraud. BE AWARE- your bank cards are usually only 4 numbers different, and a simple 40 line program can be made to scan through the number series in less than 30 seconds when trying to commit fraud.
3. Follow through with your complaints. This means documenting everything.
4. You will get a 'bad credit' letter from a collection agency. Send a copy of everything. DO NOT SEND ORIGIONALS! Dispute the charges and any bad listing on your credit. Save the letter from the debt collector- send a copy to the state agency.
5. Make an offer to settle for one movie, or offer to return the movies you got for immediate resolution of the issue. You must include the 'deceptive and misleading' portion of the complaints. YOU NEED TO BE REASONABLE. YOU GOT YOURSELF HERE. If they cannot produce the required documents, including the origional order, then you have a valid claim for sure.
6. Continue to dispute until they settle. Make noise. Lots of noise. Send copies of complaints to your lawmakers- state representatives, etc. THIS IS HOW LAWS CHANGE! I send a copy to the local news as well- this really brings bad press, and can shut a company down in less than a month. I will and have spent over $50 in mail to save and raise awareness of bad companies, and have activley lead to the termination of over $19, 000 in debt from various collections, etc because they violated the laws. (IL)
7. THE FOLLW THROUGH- We made reservations at Disney in Orlando, then called a month later to cancle based on the problems with the DMC. Less than 2 hours later, they called back and 'resolved' our complaint by canceling the last 3 movies, and even offering a free meal package at the resort.
8. This gets you additional copies of your credit report- take a copy of the complaint, and send them to the credit reporting agencies- make sure DMC is not there.

Happy hunting.

It's not impossible to cancel your membership. All you have to do is fulfill your agreement with them and call and say you want to cancel. If you don't then that is your fault, not theirs.

I just called [protected] and talked to a lady about cancelling my membership and it was no problem she's even refunding me the $2.00 that was already billed to my card. All I have to do is send back the movie (which she is mailing me a box with pre-paid s&h to do so) then my membership is cancelled and I won't receive anymore charges! Thank you Disney movie club! I might even sign back up when I have enough to afford it! :)

Apparently, you need to buy at least six (or five) movies before you can cancel your membership, which is impossibly expensive and [censor] up already. Honestly, all I can advise you to do is cancel the card they're billing you on. It works quicker and easier.

This is such a rip off. I was required to do it for human verification for a giveaway, and now I can't get rid of this. I am only 17, and I have
No money. I keep sending the post back with the box checked for the "do not send me featured title" and luckily I havent gotten any notifications or emails saying that I was charged for it, or attempted to charge me from the 4$ I own. I am just fed up with this. I will never be able to afford to fill the obligations, and I just want this [censor] gone.

Twice in the past I have received and been billed for movies after I sent back the option out card. Last month I received TRON Legacy, but I never received the monthly packet before-hand with the option-out card. I wasn't too happy, but it did complete my 4-movie/2-year obligation. But now I just received another expensive DVD again without ever receiving the packet in advance. I'm going to call them up. Federal law states that if you receive something by mail that you didn't order, it's yours to keep for free. (I know, good luck with that, but I'm going to fight!)

Disney Movie Club movie returned

About six months ago I received a notice in my mail box stating I had a package. When I went to the counter to receive I asked the Postal Clerk if the package was from Disney Movie Club, giving her some other information as well. She said yes it seemed to be. So I asked her if she would write "Rejected" on the package and return it. I watched as she did as I requested and then left. I have since explained that I never received this movie, I contacted them last November about another issue and explained then that I never even touched this movie but had it returned. Now, they have turned me over to a collection agency for collection on an Item I never even received. I have tried very hard to get my credit score up and now they are destroying it over an item I never touched and there is no number you can call to try to resolve these problems unless you have a Disney Rewards Credit Card, which I don't have and never will. Stay away from this company unless you want heartache and headache, or unless you want to pay for movies every month for the rest of your life. By the way, they're movies are cheaper at wal-mart anyway.

It states pretty clearly in the terms of service when you sign up for the membership that the only way to cancel is in writing by sending a traditional letter. My frustration is that I've sent two (2) letters in the past 90 days and nothing back from DMC... I keep getting the email asking me if I want the feature of the month. I'm calling [protected] tomorrow!

Thanks guys! The [protected]-XXXX numbers only get you to their automated system there for yout to either accept or turn down your featured selection for the month. The only number that gives you a person to talk to who actually can and will help you is [protected]. The poor who had the misfrotune of taking my call took the brunt of my frustration with the company. She was VERY understanding and after I apologized for my frustrated rant and made it clear I wasn't upset with her but with Disney she went ahead and helped me out. I requested she pass on my displeasure with the company and how horrible it is that they do not have ANY contact information on their website. I doubt that will happen but one can hope. They are great so long as things don't go wrong. When they do it's a ### trying to find someone to addess the issue. I actually sent Customer service an email via their website and a week passed w/o any kind of reply.

I hope this info helps soemone else seeking to find a living person to help address thie issues.

Disney Movie Club charged for movies I declined

I have declined 2 of my monthly featured titles but Disney Movie Club still charged me for them. I was going to return them back to Disney but decided not to since they caused my credit card to go over the limit. Each one caused me to pay $36 in fees. I e-mailed Disney Movie Club but they have not replied back yet. I think its kinda funny that they dont have a phone number to talk to somebody in person. There customer service is the worst i have ever delt with. I am going to be a freshman in college and cant afford to pay $60 for one movie with the fees. I urge anyone thinking of joining Disney Movie Club to not do it. Its cheaper and easied to get your movies from a retail store. I thought Disney was a wonderful family company but now i feel differently. STAY AWAY FROM DISNEY MOVIE CLUB!

ECONOBIKER is probably the dumbest person. There is no membership fees. You have an obligation. There are feature titles you have to respond to every month in order for the title not to ship out. If you fulfilled our obligation within a month you can cancel. Two years is the time they give you to fulfill.

I found out that you have to pay for about two years of membership before you can cancel. And they also bumped me up to some platinum or gold membership which was over $100 per month. we were getting 5 new movies every week!

I had to pay a lawyer about $5000 to get out of the membership plus pay over $2000 to ship the crates of movies back...

Disney Movie Club - slammed my credit card, never signed up

My credit card was fraudulently charged for a membership to this club. They apparently obtained my cc number from another on-line business. When I returned the movies and explained I never ordered them I received a demand letter back that I pay for them plus "fulfill my membership obligations." This company is a fraud. There is no way to phone them from...

Disney Movie Club avoid them, save your peace of mind

I declined a monthly selection. It was sent anyway and they charged my debit card. My other payments started bouncing. I returned the unwanted movie and they took weeks to refund my money. I quit after getting nowhere with their "customer disservice" people and now they have an agency physically threatening me to pay another $53.88. Is this America? I don't think so. AVOID them, save your peace of mind.

The number you have to call is for their non American customers and rotary phone to actually get to a live person. That number is currently [protected]. I have called it several times because I was the victim of identity theft and someone opened an account with them with my name and card. They told me they would do nothing about this until i had reported the fraud to my credit card company. Having done that, it has still been over a month for my money to be returned to me, and they have continued to attempt to bill my credit card for new orders, and only today, have they closed the account...supposedly. They have no customer service which is noted by their set up.

You cannot contact them at all to file a complaint through their publicly offered number, 1st supervisor I spoke too informed me I was ### out of luck in getting my money back unless I returned movies I never even ordered or received. I honestly doubt they are even part of the Disney cast family, since I have worked for Disney in the past and she could not even direct me to the department above her, stating she was the highest power in the chain.

Over all I feel they are just as bad as the people who stole my card number, in being thieves.

I am trying to figure out how to quit the disneymovieclub. There web site gives absolutely no info on this. I have sent emails to their "customer service" but get no reply. I have only found a phone with computer voice, no human to talk with. How can I quit them?

Any advice on this? Thanks, gatorgbb

They are not customer oriented, they want their money. The number now is [protected]; they list the web site as disneymovieclub.com but it is actually disneymovieclub.Go.com

What is this customer service number of which some of you speak? The only number they give is the [protected], which is automated, and no human is available. I received a movie that I had declined, never opened it, and gave it back to the post office/return to sender. They keep sending me notices, with the last one stating it is from the office of the collection manager. My credit card number is not on file. I sent an email via the website telling them of my situation and that I need someone to contact me. I know the movies that I do want to order to fulfill my contract and would like to do so and be rid of them, and said as much in my email. They have not contacted me in person, only these forms/bills with no way to speak to anyone. Anyone have a contact number for a real person?

I don't know about the other complaints but mine is as follows.
I joined the Disney Movie Club and got the first selections and tried to pay for them and had NO PHONE number to do so. Then when I tried to pay over the phone it WAS IMPOSSIBLE to do so. It always said that I had to call customer service and had NO NUMBER to do so. Then the account is turned over to a collection agency. I did not order from a collection agency and will NOT PAY THEM, I will pay DISNEY. I have no number to get in touch with Disney to pay my bill and am being charged for movies that I DO NOT HAVE.

Here's the important thing NEVER give them a debit or credit card to hold on file!
I too signed up, but I asked to be billed. They sent me my original order, then sent the monthly order card for which I do not waste stamps on returned. They auto ship each months order and I decline receipt. They can't charge me anything since they have nothing on file. After 8 months of this, the correspondence and the movies stopped coming. about 16 months later I get a demand for payment on my contract. I call, they say I never ordered, I say you stopped sending me stuff. They say that I moved and they could no longer contact me. However, the letter for demand they sent me was to the same address that I originally signed up for. I have never moved, been here 8 years. Total bunk. I ask them to extend the contract out since they admit to stopping ALL communication, they say no way.
They start sending me monthlys again and after 3-7 months I decided there were a few dvds I wanted and I got them on a free shipping and buy one get one. Thus, fulfilling my contract obligation.
However during these 3-7 months, I would get these threatening letters for demand for payment, which I ignored, since they stopped corresponding with me DURING my contract period.
They could never charge me anything and as it went, I extended my own contract because I NEVER gave them my card info.

I have been a Disney Movie Club member for a couple years and last year in November they charged my checking account for the purchase of a movie that I never ordered nor received. When I called the Disney Movie club customer service they stated that I had to fax in a copy of the bank statement with the charge and even the person I spoke to agreed that it was their mistake. I waited until April of 2008 when they sent me a movie that I didn't order and decided to keep and sent a copy of my bank statement with the bill. I explained to them that they overcharged me in November and since they didn't refund my bank account I did not owe them for the movie sent in April. At that time I had completed my agreement with the club and requested they close my account. Now I am getting the ever so annoying cards in the mail stating I still have one more purchase to complete my agreement and I have also received another movie after I closed my account of which I also am not going to pay for. Therefore if I owe them money maybe they will get the picture and close the account and leave me alone. My credit is fine and if they think that their minimal little amt of debt will screw up my credit I would have to laugh. Therefore if they are smart they won't send anymore movies because I intend to keep them and not pay for them. I have always been responsible with my bills and never stolen anything but I figure I will fight fire with fire. I suggest they look into their billing practices and do some serious changes. I am a very disatisfied customer and I also work in customer service and know and understand that anytime you call a customer service dept for any company it is documented in the account so they can't tell me that my phone call was not documented.

OnApril 2008 I have been entrapped by the Disney Movie Club advertisement (http://www.squidoo.com/disney-movie-club).
Mentioned advertisement promised:
"How to get 4 Disney movies for $1.99 each at the Disney Movie Club"
Joint the Disney Movie Club...
and get latest Disney movie releases at Bargain Prices.
Having the latest movies delivered to your home is easy. Just sign up, select the 4 movies you'd like to receive for the introductory offer and you're set. From then on, you will receive the latest releases at deeply discounted prices, which means it's a lot better than buying these from the stores or elsewhere. Plus, you won't find as complete a selected of Disney Movies and DVDs anywhere else".
Walt Disney is very reputable company, so I bought it.
But unfortunately it was a hundred per cent FALSEHOOD!
In fact as per club "Terms and Conditions" (http://disney.videos.go.com/General/Acquisition/SignUp/Terms),
The Disney Movie Club begun to force me to:
" As a Disney Movie Club member, all you need to do is buy 5 movies at regular Club prices in the next 24 months (starting at $19.95 per DVD), plus shipping and processing of $3.95 for the first title in each order, and $1.00 for each additional title in that same order. You may cancel your membership at any time after purchasing the 5 movies. buy 5 DVDs for Regular Club Cost: starting at $19.95".
In addition, according to club Terms and Conditions:
"You agree to fulfill your purchase commitment within 24 months of sign-up. If you are unable to meet your commitment within your commitment period, your credit card may be charged for the value of the 4 reduced-priced titles you have received. This amount is dependent upon your initial sign up offer and the format of your introductory movies".
In other words the true minimal price of the transaction is equal to regular price of 4 DVDs (starting at $19.95 each) plus shipping ($3.99 +$1+$1+$1), plus Applicable sales tax to orders shipped to California and Wisconsin.
Which means that the true minimal value of the transaction is $79.80 + $7.99 = $87.79 instead of $1.99 x 4 = $7.96.
Thereby each consumer of the Disney Movie Club has been defrauded to the minimal amount of $79.80 - $7.99 = $71.81!

Disney Movie Club they are money hungry

Disney movie club a big scam they are money hungry. No matter what don't fall for the movie club you will get billed for movies you never ordered and very poor customer service they give you the run around. Nothing nice to say about dmc. Movie club is a con. Taking peoples hard earned money! They are liars. You can't get no one to talk to. I asked them to cancel my account 6 times they never did. So I was very pissed when I got the bill for movies I never ordered and sent back.

You probably did not read the terms when you had signed up. Disney is a very reputable company so why would they try to scam people. You keep getting movies you didn't order because you didn't respond to their feature titles every month like you agreed to. You sound very rude, so how would any company give you good customer service. If you can't even read their terms and conditions, then you shouldn't be signing up for memberships.

Disney Movie Club - order history had been abreviated by two movies!

Last winter I joined The Disney Movie Club in order to get movies for my granddaughter. I ordered the Three discount movies as well as the half price and the additional. I was told that I had four movies left to buy. I purchased at this time: The Aristocats The Incredibles Monsters Inc. Alice in Wonderland Goofy Movie After several months I then ordered...

Disney Movie Club In-depth Review

In summary, Disney Movie Club offers a unique experience for Disney fans with its extensive collection of movies, member-exclusive deals, and special features. However, it is important to consider the cost and commitment of the membership plans. The user experience is generally positive, with a user-friendly website and good customer service. Shipping and delivery are efficient, and the club takes measures to ensure payment security. Community engagement and educational value add to the club's appeal, although there is limited information on environmental and social responsibility initiatives.

Selection of Titles

Disney Movie Club has a wide variety of genres, including animation, live-action, and family-friendly movies. New releases are available, and members can enjoy a vast collection of classic movies. The club also offers exclusive editions that are not available elsewhere, making it a treasure trove for collectors.

Membership Plans and Pricing

The club provides attractive initial sign-up offers, such as discounted movies and free gifts. The cost of monthly/annual membership can be a good deal compared to standard retail prices, especially with member discounts. Overall, the value for money is quite reasonable for avid Disney fans.

User Experience and Website Navigation

The website is easy to use, with efficient search functionality. It is also mobile responsive, allowing members to browse and purchase on-the-go. The account management features are straightforward, making it simple to track orders and update preferences.

Special Features and Exclusives

Members can access VIP benefits, limited edition releases, and member-only discounts and deals. The bonus points and rewards system adds extra value, giving members the chance to earn free movies.

Customer Service and Support

The customer service team is known for being responsive and helpful. The return and exchange policies are fair, and there are multiple contact options available, including phone, email, and chat. Member feedback and reviews are generally positive.

Shipping and Delivery

While there are shipping costs, the club often runs promotions for free shipping. The packaging quality is good, ensuring that items arrive in excellent condition. Delivery timeframes are reasonable, though international shipping availability may be limited.

Payment Options and Security

The club accepts various payment methods and provides clear billing cycle notifications. Financial data protection is taken seriously, and the auto-renewal and cancellation policy is straightforward, though it's important to read the terms carefully.

Community and Social Engagement

Disney Movie Club has a strong social media presence and encourages member interaction through forums and discussions. Members receive regular newsletters and updates, and the club organizes events and promotions for additional engagement.

Educational and Family Value

The club offers a wide range of age-appropriate content and has some educational material. There are plenty of family viewing options, and the club provides parental controls and settings to ensure a safe viewing experience for children.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

There is not much information available on the club's sustainability practices or charitable initiatives. However, Disney as a brand is known for its ethical sourcing and production and community outreach programs.

Overall Satisfaction and Recommendations

Most member testimonials reflect satisfaction with the club's offerings. There are pros and cons to consider, such as the commitment required for membership versus the exclusive benefits. The repeat membership rate suggests that many members find the club worthwhile. The final verdict and rating would depend on individual preferences and the value placed on Disney's unique content and member perks.
