Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services cash back checking

Discover in general has always been a " name brand " company. It's always had the best service, and touts it's amazing features, which is true, if you have a credit card with them. This however, is not true if you decide to move your family fortune over to the banking side, like I did. Over the past year I've had everything from not being able to spend my money, to transactions being processed months, and months late. Let me go over a long list of problems that I've encountered, hopefully to help you guys with making the best outcome possible.

I opened my account in July of 2015, and immediately I was overrun with a slew of problems. I had about 20k to move over to my new discover bank, of course, with them being an online only bank, the only way to do this was to A, send them a check with my life savings ( no thanks ), or B, mobile check deposit, okay, cool, I opted for mobile check deposit. Unfortunately, they had tons of limitations, you could only deposit 1500 a day, because I was a " new customer ", even though I've had a Discover credit card since 2010, that apparently didnt' matter to them, i'm still a new customer. None the less, I continued onward. Then I found out that the waiting period for new customers was two weeks, so my money was basically " unavailable " for quite a while. Reluctantly, I continued onward once again.

October 2015 I started noticing that transactions were missing on my account, my balances were constantly wrong, and they were charging me for charges that were actually charged weeks earlier. I contacted them, and they seemed quite concerned, about 2 weeks later, a major update wen't on so they could fix the problem. After the major update on the system things were even worse, transactions were still missing, and my account was still being treated like a credit card.

December of 2015 they decided that another update was needed, only this time they did not notify us. It's important to note that when they do scheduled maintenance, your daily spending limit is only 250 USD, and they like to do them just about every weekend, if you don't spend that kind of cash then you have nothing to worry about, if you do, make sure you have alternative means of paying for things, because they will tell you to use another bank, that's the Discover way.

In January of 2016 I called to have a debit freeze put onto my account, this basically a way to stop money from going out, but let money come in, I did this because of fraud on my account. They happily added the freeze to the account. However, their system screwed up about a week in, and they un froze the account, allowed more fraud to go through, took money out of my account, I then had to call them to dispute more charges, which was the entire point of having the freeze on the account, that makes no sense, but again, this is the discover way.

On valentines day weekend, they setup another scheduled maintenance. Mind you, when maintenance is going on, daily spending is limited to 250 dollars, valentines day is one of the busiest days of the year for consumer spending. I called and complained, and they again told me to use another bank. They then, that same week had more maintenance on Thursday night, they said it was scheduled, but later admitted it wasn't, then they again had maintenance on Saturday night ( what a good night to limit our spending ), I called, they said to use another bank. Finally, the following sunday I took my card out to make a purchase, and it was declined. I called the bank, and they told me I had to wait until Monday if I wanted to get it resolved, and if I needed to spend money, I needed to use another bank. No compassion, no understanding, just " use another bank ", or " alternative means ". If you have all of your money with discover bank, be very very careful, their banking side is very, very, very new to the industry. Their website is still in " BETA ", and they do not offer any of the basic services of their competitors that have brick and motor strores.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services discover savings acct. unethical behaviour

I was solicited through the mail to open a savings account with a $100. bonus. They did everything in their power to make sure I didn't qualify for the bonus. Even though I have excellent credit, delayed my application for several days; I was never given a reason why. After spending several hours on the phone with them, (their hold times are unacceptable) telling me they would call me back (they never did), they finally approved my account. Then they tried to say I don't get the bonus because it wasn't opened in time. I then pointed out to them on my offer the fine print says you APPLY by 1/31/16 not if it's opened by then. So then they told I still don't get it because the funds have to be in your account by 2/15 and it takes them at least a week to post it to your account. The soonest I could transfer the money electronically was 2/11/16 because of their delays not mine. Even though my receipt said I sent the money on this date, they would not honor it.
After spending over an hour talking to supervisor Jesse A. On 2/11 reference # INX565 who wouldn't budge, I decided it was best I cancel the $15, 000.00 transfer and close the account. Jesse A. Had no problem doing this, he didn't even try to keep me as a customer, I was so upset that I told him I also want to close my Discover credit card, and he was happy to transfer me over to a rep. Who could handle that. They would rather pay their employees to argue with you about petty things than to just pay you want you have coming to you. I wasted my time and could have made more money working than talking to these people and getting nowhere. Not to mention the stress they put you through.
They also lost money by loosing me as a customer and paying employees hours to ague on the phone, it seems like it would have cheaper and more lucrative for them to just give me my bonus, but I guess they don't look at it that way. The good thing is I found out early on how they treat their customers, and we have other choices. I just sold some real estate and have a large sum of money to invest, I'm sure I can find a bank I don't have to beg to take my money

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services authorized users

The cards for my authorized users were shut don because I refused to supply their social security numbers. My account is still open for me to use. I also learned that my account information is available on the authorized users credit reports. Discover cross reports the account owners info. My personal info is on the credit reports of my employees and family members who have authorized user cards. They did this by using public records since they did not have current address, birthdate, or social security numbers. In one case it was based on a common address from over 15 years ago. My credit history should not impact the credit of anyone else, or visa versa.
I am closing my account and checking the credit reports of everyone involved. My bank is helping me file a complaint with the baning commission. I talked to Visa, Mastercard, anfd American express and was told none of them shore this policy. I am in contact with my stae attorney general. In this age of identity theft my information shoiuld be secured. Please pass this policy information on so we can all be aware of the dangers of having a Discover Card.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services charge for nothing

I have no energy left to fight that abuse for making me pay for nothing. I was told, I am entitled to cancel a credit card (account)if unauthorized by me charge was placed on my account. On September 2013, I and my wife called and asked to close the Discover Card account and put charge for Marriott timeshare in the amount of $2500.00, that was not authorized by me, in dispute. I never signed an agreement to initiate a timeshare with Marriott and I do not have a timeshare from Marriott. Discover Financial Services refused to close the account and notify me of closing my account per my request. I began to experience a financial terrorism from Discover Card ever since instead of getting help to cancel unwelcoming timeshare, that was based on nothing yet, cancelled. It was not a valid charge, no material and no services were obtain, nothing was used or nothing was kept. In 2013, Discover Financial Services quietly began to charge my bank account without my knowledge, and after that attacked me and threatened my responsibility when I tried to fight. I never authorized automatic payments for a minimum monthly payments and I did not really understood how to fight their games. Discover Financial services got its claws on me and my bank account and would not let me go. They refused to close my Discover Card account. I asked them to put that timeshare in dispute no one time and to close credit card account for which I even do not have card since I asked to close account on September 2013 again and again, but every time they would sent me a new bill under pressure of jeopardizing my credit history. Now they sent me a bill for $4096.52 with minimum payment of $345.00 to pay. They already scammed me on over $3024.00 for nothing. Please let me know if I am entitled to any damages of that scam.

I am 67 years old and English is my second language. On December 2013 my wife got a brain injury and was not able to help me for a while against that abuse. They used me and took an advantage of me. Please help me to get my hard working money back that were scammed from me by Discover Financial Services.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services unable to verify residence

Beware - Discover Card is clueless! After applying for a Discover Card on a form that they pre-approved for me, they rejected my application. I have a stellar credit score and record. At 2 big box home improvement stores, my credit limit is 5-figures. The official reasons were 'unable to verify residence/address' for a home that I've owned for 3.5 years and where they mailed me the application and rejection letters! They also claimed to be unable to verify my credit references. This organization (Morgan Stanley) is screwed up. Adios Discover Card!

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services online transfers backdated

Over my six-year experience with Discover Bank, I have found nothing to like. Everything about this joke-of-a-bank is a nightmare ... from horrible customer service (e.g., telephone "hold" times often in excess of an hour), to their slow and antiquated online messaging platform (e.g., they won't allow customers to use ordinary email; message date-stamps are always wrong), to their BACKDATING of online funds transfers (that's right, they BACKDATED my online funds transfer to an external account by one whole day, thus costing one day's earned interest. A total NIGHTMARE dealing with Discover Bank! I'm convinced they intentionally try to cheat customers whenever they think they might get away with it. Thought USA banks were supposed to be federally regulated. Don't understand how this joke-of-a-bank has been allowed to remain in business so long. They are the worst! Stay away.

You are absolutely right! They are nothing but cheaters. They sent me a promotional offer in the mail to open a new account with a $100.
bonus. Then they did everything in their power to make so I wouldn't get the bonus. They delayed my application even though I had
excellent credit and gave no reason. Keep saying they would return my calls and never did. I had to spend hours on the phone with them
their hold times are incredible. When I finally did get an account number I had days to get the required deposit in by 2/15. Even though I did the
transaction electronically on 2/12 as my receipt indicated, a supervisor told I'm not getting the bonus because it takes them a week to post it and that is the date they will go by. You don't have any control over when they decide to post to your account therefore you can loose interest and as
in my case not qualify for a bonus. After spending over an hour talking to supervisor Jesse A who wouldn't budge at all, I decided I'm wasting my
time and could have went to work and earned more than their lousy $100. not to mention the stress they put you through I immediately closed the
account in which he had no problem doing didn't even try to keep me as a customer. They would rather pay their employees to argue with you about a technically than give you customer service. I wonder how much they paid the people I talked to over this it probably would have been cheaper and more lucrative for them to just give me my bonus. Not mention I just sold some real estate so I have a large sum of money to invest. I'm glad I out found out early how they treat people. The good thing is we have choices and their are plenty of other banks that I don't have beg for my business. I also told Jesse A. (reference #INX565) they I'm so disgusted with they way they treated me that I'm also closing my Discover credit card and gladly transferred me to a representative to do that too.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services unsafe online activity

I have been a Discover card holder for 6 years. This gets a little confusing, but I hope I break it down correctly. I lost my card and called and requested a new one, FOUR months ago. They sent me a new card with a new number. Only problem? Somebody else has the same number! Not knowing this, I logged in to my online Discover access, which I have been using for years to audit my account and make payments, but now I am locked out. Because my new card has somebody else's user name attached to it. I then call Discover. And this is where the fun really begins. First, they keep calling me by the other persons name, repeatedly. And I keep telling them that this is not me. Finally, they find me but they say I have never made payments on line. (UNTRUE) Then they find my online payments and say, "Oh, look, you have." So, after dozens and dozens of calls to Discover, and extensive conversations with supervisors, the only solution that they can offer me is to use this other persons login! They tell me, unfortunately, Logins cannot be changed, so I am stuck with some other persons information. This simply does not sound safe or accurate to me, and I have gone through a litany of supervisors at this point. Nobody can give me somebody higher to talk to; in fact they suggested I write a LETTER to a PO Box in Salt Lake City. Sorry, but that sounds pointless. Who is going to open the letter? Don't they have a phone? Why am I being ENCOURAGED by a CC company to use some other persons information to login on line? I went ahead and made a payment over the phone, very reticently, and it took two weeks for them to process it. Something horrible is going on. And this is all new. I have been happy with Discover up until now. ! Anybody else ever hear of such craziness? Can I report them to somebody? To this day, four months later, the problem has not been resolved.

I am having the same problem with my card. I was sent a letter two months ago that they wore switching my account over to MasterCard. According to the letter I was to get the new card by December 6, 2013, but I haven't received it as of this time. I can't even get ahold of anyone at the customer service to find out what's up with my new card.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services inability to close cd account that is part of an estate

As Executor of my mother's will I have requested to close CD account held by Discover Bank. I have completed all requested forms and sent copies of requested documentation. When I have contacted them about the account, I was informed the only document that they needed was a copy of my Fathers Death Certificate, as he was named the beneficiary of the account. I have been assured that this is the last piece of information they need to close the account. I have FAXed that document three separate times, on 05/14/13, 06/21/13, and 08/30/13. When I have attempted to follow up after each occurrence, I was told that the only document that was needed was a copy of my father's death certificate. Today, 09/20/13, during my contact with them, they reported the check was being made out as we were speaking. We will see.

Do NOT open a CD with Discover ! They happily take your money, but when you want it back, the make jump through hoops and charge all sorts of fees. In my case, I wanted the funds transferred back into the account where they took it from and they charged $20 !

These people are sharks. They will steal your money but never give it back. No matter how many people I talk to or how many papers I send it is never enough. Customer service has no clue how to handle my situation. They just rush you off the phone and refuse to help. Never have any business with this bank. It is a complete fraud.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services closing deceased account

As executor of my wife's estate Discover Bank is requiring documentation, forms, letters etc that no other account has asked for. They state "banking regulations" but I get a different story from every person I talk to. Even after receiving a certified court order they are refusing to accept it. Save yourself the grief they give you, don't give them your money.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services purchase protection program

When I purchased a rug that started bleeding pink dye all over after taken to be professionally cleaned and both the manufactuer, Thomasvile, and the store said they would not do anything about it. I decided to go to Discover and use the purchase protection policy since it was I within 90 days from purchase I submitted all the documents, statement from the cleaners and pictures requested . After dragging me along for over 4 months they said it is a he said, she said case and sided with the store. Their "purchase protection" claim is a joke! You will be stuck with any defective item you buy with that card! Do not believe on their claims to protect you and your purchases. They will always side with the store no matter how obvious your documentation is! Card has been cancelled!

We completely agree with your comments. Shortly we will be discontinuing our Discover Card. One of the strangest policies they have is that if you purchase a defective, non-working product and the vendor will not allow a return or any other recourse Discover card will NOT offer any refund. We were told that to get a refund from Discover the product must be working. We have tried but we cannot see how this is a viable program. What product protection program ?
We have been engaged in an attempt to resolve a difficult problem with a "bad" vendor. We were price gouged on an electrical device that installs in our central air conditioning system. The installer left without completely finishing the installation. He handed a package of parts and told me we should drill into the air conditioner body to install the remaining parts ! Before we did any work on the product and after the installer left we discovered the product did not work. Every attempt to resolve the issue with the vendor has failed; we cannot return the product or receive a price adjustment. Although we have provided many pieces of documentation with descriptive letters Discover Card will not help us. We are convinced that no matter what information or facts are supplied Discover has internal policies that negate any possible consumer recourse. l
BUYER BEWARE: Do not use Discover if you want any credit card protection.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services bad credit? ssay away from this card

I found this website by chance to obtain credit for those who have bad credit. I paid multiple fees to get this card. I had read a complaint soon after about this company using Discover's name along with Martrix. (but I hoped I would not have a problem). What I am about to write is similar to the complaint the person wrote. I closed the account after four months so I wouldn't have to pay a fee of 75.00 for the 2013 New Year. I still had a balance. But the account was closed and I could not sign into the website . I called and asked 'why can't I sign in', I was told because the account is closed. I asked how than am I to know what the balance is and I was told the would give me the balance over the phone. I asked the customer representative ' would you accept that as an answer' and he said 'no'. I asked for a paper statement and then I was told because I elected not to receive paper statements (to save five dollars) I could not get one. I said 'are you kidding'? I was put on hold so he can ask the manager if he can send a paper statement. He came back to let me know the paper statement would be sent out. It has only been a week and I sure do hope I receive it. Is this matrix business paying a fee to Discover to use their name ? It is bad business and tricks people by thinking that it is a discover promotion. It was really too good to be true and would had been really nice if there is some help for those who cant have a reasonable card but that is not the case. Another thing, this company was emailing me letting me know statement was available when the account was open. I sent an email to inquire the above . I also added at the end of my email 'please don't let the complaint I read to be true'. What I received was 'email failed to be sent' . Why? because my account w/my email on file is closed? Even if an account is closed and there is a balance I should be able to access the account.
This is a bad business.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services cheated merchant

BEWARE! Before you accept Discover Card as payment for your product or service know that you may not get paid. Here is our story.

On 8/6/12 our product was delivered to our buyer prepaid with a Discover Card. On 8/25/12 (20 days after delivery) the $1850 cost of the product was taken from our account without notice. Reason given was for non-delivery. On 9/18/12 after collecting and providing Discover with signed proof of delivery from a commercial carrier, we were told that their decision would stand. Again, not until 10/16 12 we were told to provide proof of delivery which we did again on 10/22/12. Additionally, we contacted the buyer who also notified Discover that they had in fact received the Product. It is now 12/11/12 (four months after delivery), and Discover refuses to give us our rightful funds. We have been defrauded out of our money. Feels like the banks are going direct for their next bail out and bypassing the government. We accept credit cards from other companies and have never had this happen before. With Discover Card it is the second time (we won the first dispute with them). As a result we have suffered bank fees, and additional expenses nearing an additional $1, 000. Now we have to hire an attorney to sue our buyer and Discover to get our money. MERCHANTS BE WARNED, AVOID DISCOVER CARD!

I purchased air line tickets with expedia.com through shopdiscover. . I found out air tickets are not valid for the 5% cash back bonus. There is a statement in the website. But it is not right under the words earn 5% cash bonus. That is cheating, we all know expedia.com is primarily for air tickets. But it is excluded. It is tricky and misleading. So be careful for this tricky company. You have to read all the details of whatever they offered in details or you will be sucked in by this kind practice.

I've been with Discover since 2003. This month I used ShopDiscover for 10% cash back to shop at Sears.com. I spent over $600 on a mattress set and because Sears applied an automatic promo code 10% (on mattresses $599 and up), Discover will not issue my cash back bonus. I wouldn't let this bother me as much if it was a small bonus but it is over $50! And don't forget Discover still received a kickback/commission when I clicked on the ShopDiscover link and made that purchase.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services refuses to obey the law

In September of 2011, I submitted to Discover Card that I needed copies of my personal information. The law states that they must provide this information to me, and that they must keep copies for ten calendar years. I am being audited, and I am physically disabled. Discover Card has refused to provide me with the information I have requested, and last week, Nov of 2011 they told me the information I requested was sent out to me on Oct 17, 2011.

The postal service in the USA delivers mail within 5 business days. I have received nothing from them, and it is now Nov 8, 2011. There is no excuse. They are afraid that they may have to get legally involved, and they are refusing to obey the law and provide me with my personal information. I suspect they may retalliate to this by increasing my interest rate, which is already too high. Their interest rates have my balance at close to 75% of my annual income already. I need help dealing with them.

In October I was offered to transfer money over to my discover acct from higher interest cards at 0% for a year. The very same day the money transferred the payment was due therefore I was charged a late fee. I called the company and the rep I spoke with agreed to take the charge off my acct and keep the interest at 0%. In Dec on the 15 I received a letter stating after attempting to contact me (in which I received no phone calls, no letters and no e-mails) a decision was made on my account to lower amt of money available, reason being delinquency history, bureau reports to many. I called again and explained I was purchasing a car and refinancing my home which explains the credit report checks and 1 late payment which was removed was not cause for having a HISTORY of delinquency. In January I checked my credit score on freecrdeitreport only to find it had dropped by 25 points. There were no other inquiries that would make it drop. I then called the credit card co again and spoke with yet another rep who stated the reasons stated on this letter were not even the real reasons my money available was lowered but because I had balances on to many accounts and my income was lower. I explained that over the past 22 years of being a card member I have had even less income yet my amount of money kept getting higher because of my history of paying on time and not going over my limit so why now and the fact that I hold another discover with a limit of $11, 000 and that was not lowered. I did not get results even after stating I do care if the amt available is lowered what I care about is this has lowered my credit score by 25 points which I feel severely hurts me. Currently my credit score is still within the good status but any more points lost will lower it to fair. I have been diligent about paying my bills this is an unfair penalty..

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services I want refund, never received product

I am disputing the charged from Google Furniturestore of $147.56 out of $192.71 since they only refunded my money $45.15. Who would want to be charged for something he/she never received the product/service? The reason I want my money back is because the seller/merchant didn’t give me the product. Discover didn't want to credit back the charged with the reason that I don't have the "proof of return." How could I give them the proof of return if there is nothing to return because simply I had never received the product. They should ask the seller for the proof of delivery/receipt that I received the product.

Below is what happened:

I ordered 3 chairs online and proceed the checkout through Google Checkout. The merchant called me and indicated that I need to order an even number of chairs. I agreed to purchase an additional chair, and asked them to charge the chair plus a $50 assembly fee to my credit card. On the first 3 agreed-upon delivery dates, the delivery did not arrive at all. I missed work on each of these occasions. On the first and third of these dates (1/28 & 2/1), the seller cited weather as the reason; on the second (1/31), no excuse, they simply did not show up. On the date of the first canceled delivery, I received a separate delivery from a different furniture company (so the weather was not bad enough to prevent them from delivering). The building in which I live requires that all deliveries arrive on week days during business hours. I am attaching a series of e-mails I wrote to the building manager, arranging each of the delivery dates with the building. This should serve to dispute the seller’s claim that I never intended to receive the delivery (a ridiculous claim!).

On the fourth attempt (2/7) I had a telephone conversation in advance with the seller, specifically and emphatically requesting that the deliver be made no later than 9 AM, since I had a 10 AM doctor’s appointment and needed to leave by 9:45 AM. The delivery was attempted after I left. The delivery person called me when I was already at the doctor’s office, asking me why I was not there. At this point I indicated my desire to cancel the order on the phone, which the seller refused to do. The seller intentionally did not inform me that I need to cancel through Google Checkout. And, I didn’t know that I had to cancel the order through Google Checkout because I have never had to cancel any order with other merchants that I proceed the checkout through Google Checkout.

So, I decided to give it one final chance. We agreed to schedule the delivery for the fifth time on Friday, Feb 18 @10am. This time I asked my friend to wait at my place since I could not take any more time off from work. This time the delivery arrived. However, the seller asked for cash to pay for the additional chair, plus the assembly fee, which as I mentioned earlier, I asked them verbally to charge it to my credit card. Since my friend was not prepared to pay cash, they took back the chairs and left.

Finally, the seller agreed to cancel my order, but not before charging a “restocking fee” that turned out to be $147.56 out of $192.71 (76.6% of the price). This because I was not willing to continue taking time off from work to accommodate the fact that they did not deliver on 4 separate occasions. I was shocked to read their explanation that I never intended to purchase the chairs or accept delivery.

My building manager and my doorman can verify that I was awaiting delivery on the agreed upon dates. The last paragraph of the seller letter response said, “From starting this dispute we understood that he is making the order cancellation and we are sending his money back with a minus all of our expenses that we spend to cover his capsize which he agreed before to perches form our store. This will include deliver expenses, Googly’s transaction, the extra chair that he ordered by phone, the assembling charge, parking space in ….” How could I be charged the extra chair which I never received and the assembling charge which they had never provided?

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services unhappy potential customer

I applied for a Discover More card, and was denied. I called Discover to question the decision. I also checked my credit and found that both my Equifax and my Transunion credit reports had been requested by Discover.

I was to discuss my application with someone, because I felt that it was unfair to be denied credit based on my Equifax which had not been updated for the month of October.

I wanted someone to explain to me why I would be denied because of information on my Equifax report, if you checked the Transunion and it showed the correct up-to-date information.

The reason for denial was high utilization of credit, which was shown on my Equifax report. But if the credit analyst had taken a look at the Transunion report it would have shown my correct balances and that I have paid down a lot of debt.

The person I spoke to on the phone was very rude, and did not make me feel very comfortable discussing such personal information. I was patronized on the phone and did not appreciate being talked to like an idiot. I actually spoke to three different people on three different occasions and all of them treated me the same way.

For this reason I will not consider Discover in the future, I had hoped to take advantage of Discover products but now will never consider the brand. I have credit cards with Barclaycard and have found them to be much more reasonable, and very understanding on the telephone. I feel like Barclaycard is a company I can depend on for my financial needs, and their customer support is fantastic.

Take a leaf out of Barclaycard's book, stop treating potential customers like idiots. A customer with little credit history now may be very good customer in the future.

I am very responsible with credit, and I take my finances very seriously. When my credit has aged and I have a high credit score, I will remember the companies that were willing to give me a chance.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services only problems

My credit limit was reduced from $5000 to $500 or near to the amount that I have my current balance in over a year.

I was planning to use a balance transfer check Discover sent to me a few days back to pay off my other credit card with higher interest rate. That is, after I pay off the current balance to ensure that the credit limit covers the balance transfer fee with no maximum.

Discover said because of my high credit/debt ratio. I explained that I am in between jobs and would need this balance transfer check to pay down debt quicker. I even sold all two of my cars in the past two weeks to get my loan and credit card balances eliminated or lowered.

After explaining my life story, however personal questions that I felt that was unnecessary and took a lot of my time, the new credit limit still in effect.

Please restore my original credit limit to $5000.

Thank you.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services illegal, unethical, dishonest business

I want to start out by saying no matter what your personal opinion, Discover Financial Services is essentially a white collar terrorist organization, and they are committing acts of financial terrorism against millions of decent, responsible, hardworking, respectful, reasonable American citizens everyday in broad daylight. These are much more than acts of financial terrorism though as they force people to lose their homes, to go without food, to not provide for their children, to postpone basic and/or urgent medical care, because Discover Financial Services has devised a system (And it is not very complicated to do what they do, and see how they do it) whereby they saddle a consumer with a debt that they cannot pay off.

Some people will read this and respond as a minority of people have responded to my many other post all over the Internet and say stuff like: "You should be more responsible", "You shouldn't have gotten the card", "You borrowed the money, just pay your bill". I do not know if these people are just being contrary, playing devils advocate or actually work for financial institutions and are out there representing the other side. To people who say I should be responsible, I have paid every other bill I have ever had, in life, in full and on time, with NO ISSUES - So why not Discover? I have always paid my rent, my car insurance, my car payment, my utilities, my phone bill, my Internet bill, and all other bills on time and in full, why not Discover, curious isn't it?

The answer is that I actually have paid my Discover Card bill. I have a credit limit of approximately $5, 000 dollars, granted, I have borrowed this money from Discover over the 10 years I have held the card, but I have also paid the amount back in full at least 6 times (Yes, $30, 000 FOR AN INITIAL $5, 000 LOAN, and their not done yet), but that is not good enough for Discover Card - you see with Discover you don't simply borrow money and pay it back at a reasonable rate, this companies gets its claws in you and will not let go, until you have paid at least $50, 000 for a $5, 000 loan. They'll get you with late fees, they'll raise your interest rate, and they'll get you with late fees by **Moving your payment due date around (Without notification), and then adjusting your minimum payment due (Without notification).

To the people who say, "You shouldn't have got the card", that would be like telling the 99% of Americans in debt to financial institutions, "You shouldn't have got a college loan, it's your fault", or "You shouldn't have got sick and got that medical debt" or "You shouldn't have got upside down in your mortgage", but No One got into debt on their own, or by playing by reasonable rules. The 99% of Americans who have been victimized by financial institutions have been just that, victimized, terrorized, lied to, cheated, robbed, swindled. A crime, many crimes have been committed, in broad day light but nothing is done because it is white collar crime, and many, if not all of these companies have bought political protection, like people used to buy protection from the mafia. No I got a Discover Card with an initial contract at a low interest rate, and like many consumers, Discover Card found a way to more than double my interest rate once I charged money on the card.

I was one of the unfortunate, innocent, naive people who was solicited by Discover Card as a college student. This practice (Of soliciting to college students) was recently banned, unfortunately I cannot be grandfathered into the ban. I was a college student, it was over 10 years ago, and like many college students I needed a little help making ends meet, I did not (AS SOME COLDHEARTED PEOPLE OUT THERE LIKE TO SAY ) splurge on frivolous items, like a big screen TV, or a game system, or a ping-pong table. I, like many Americans saddled with credit card debt, used my card to simply buy food, to eat. I do not buy frivolous things. I am a very responsible consumer.

Actual Complaints:

1. Discover Financial Services - offers consumers one thing and then when they have you out there holding one of their cards and using it, they alter your contract. And this is something - THAT HAS TO BE ILLEGAL - And I have only seen this with Discover Card. With any other contract I have ever been a part of I not only had to read and agree to terms, but I had to sign and initial the contract and is changes were made they had to be read and initialed. ***With Discover Financial Services they have created their own laws, they have decided that if they bury contract changes in a letter, they supposedly mailed to you (Where is the proof I actually received the letter?) and mind you they will bombard you with letters, and NO ONE reads those letters and all the small print, ***But this is the important point, whether you got the letter or not, YOU AGREE TO CHANGES IN YOUR CONTRACT - BY SIMPLY CONTINUING TO USE THE CARD - So you don't sign anything, you don't acknowledge anything, you agree by buying gas, or some groceries at the store. Apparently the Credit Card companies have invented their own contract law rules. Who needs lawyers?

2. When Discover Financial Services penalizes you, it is never a 1 penalty situation. Let's say I am late with my phone, insurance, or electric bill - I pay the bill and a late fee (1 reasonable penalty for one transgression). With Discover, not so simple, they are in the "Double Jeopardy" business. You will be assessed a late fee (Penalty 1). This late fee will be added to your balance, which will cause your monthly minimum payment to increase (Penalty 2) and then they will, of course, double your interest rate (Penalty 3 - if your rate was 13%, now it will be 26%) and Discover Card makes a killing, literally and figuratively, white collar terrorism, greed, how much is too much. In fact I wonder how many people Discover has directly led to suicide because they put them in a debt that was impossible to escape, and the people saw no way out, which is exactly how Discover Financial Services, constructs their contracts, it's part of their business strategy, get a hardworking, respectful, responsible middle or lower class American in debt and keep them there at any cost - even when it means their daily practice of breaking (And apparently creating) the law.

3. Most recently Discover Financial Services decided to change (Without notice) all of their customers payment due dates. Again I have to think this is inherently against the law, as Verizon doesn't randomly change my payment due date, my electric bill is always due on a certain day as is my car payment, my rent, my car insurance, my internet bill, et cetera...but Discover decided to change my payment due date. This led to me (As I am sure millions of other Americans) being late on my payment (Oh Wow! LOOK, instant revenue for Discover Financial Services) - as soon as I and I assume millions of other Americans went late on our payments via Discovers latest scheme, they generated 100's of millions of dollars in late fees...

They hit me with late fees, and, but - here is the genius of it ***I have always paid well above the minimum monthly payment due - say my minimum monthly payment due is $70 I was consistently paying $100 - Unfortunately (Guess who else knew this?! Discover - THIS IS HOW WE ARE ALL PLAYING A RIGGED GAME!) so I went late on my payment, because Discover decided to change my payment due date, without notifying me of the change, then they hit me with late fees (Keep paying attention this gets amusing), they folded the late fees into my balance, which increased my monthly minimum payment due - and here is the kicker - my monthly minimum payment didn't go up $10, it didn't go up $20, it didn't even go up $30 (To $100 from $70) it went up $43, because Discover has my payment history right in front of them, and if it only went up $30, they wouldn't be able to catch me with late fees again, when I went in to pay my monthly minimum payment and like most responsible consumers paid over the minimum ($70 and I was paying a $100), but it wasn't $70, and CONVENIENTLY it was OVER $100, because they KNEW I would pay $100, and they knew they DO NOT, and DID NOT adequately inform me or any consumer of these changes, in payment due dates, raises in interest rates, raises in monthly minimum payments, et cetera...so they got me again...late fee, after late fee, because I was not adequately notified, and they raised my monthly minimum payment to just over what they knew I had a history of paying.

***Another cute problem here, I continued to make a monthly payment, on time to Discover Card, of $100, having not been informed of the change in minimum payment, but it is not enough to make a payment to Discover, if you do not make the minimum payment, you are once again penalized for - Not making a payment, Ah! But I did make a payment, and shouldn't it even be my choice, as a consumer, ta make a smaller payment, as long as I am paying on my bill every month?!

4. Finally, I have informed Discover Card that I am launching an all out campaign against them, via the BBB (Which I am starting to think has been bought off by big business), the FTC, The American Civil Liberties (Because I think the financial institutions inherently violate civil liberties, and generally a persons pursuit of liberty, freedom and happiness) my States Attorney Generals office (In Georgia where I live and was the initial crime took place), and also with The States Attorney Generals Office in Utah and Delaware where this company runs it's criminal enterprise (I am also going to talk to an attorney about bringing charges against Discover Financial Services under the RICO statute, as this is a criminal, racketeering, organization operating across state lines) I am also out here filing complaints all over the internet at the many internet complaint boards, via Facebook and Twitter.

I informed Discover of these intentions and now they are harassing me. Specifically, now they will not correctly receive a payment from me. I just paid my October payment, over the monthly minimum, of course, on time, of course, REMEMBER I AM OTHERWISE A 100% RESPONSIBLE CONSUMER (Except, apparently in my interactions with this illegal, fraudulent company) But...Discover promptly sent me an e-mail on Monday saying I missed my payment again. When I contacted them, they said the e-mail was incorrect, and that I had made my payment in time and in full, so I asked them to send me an apology and an e-mail containing the correction (Correct info) and was informed that they could not send that via e-mail, they would have to send that via conventional mail. THAT'S RIGHT they will send you incorrect info through e-mail, but the correct info, can't do it.

One more interesting/amusing thing - Discover Financial Services informs me that they do not have a complaint department?! What decent sized business doesn't have a complaint department? I assume the Discover Card complaint department was so overwhelmed the company gave up trying to operate one, and they certainly do not care about customer complaints and this is one glaring sign of their disregard for customer service.

My Desired Outcome:

I have said this to Discover Card numerous times and I hope someone out there can help me see this goal thorough. If a lawyer reads this and can find any kind of a loophole, and help me sue Discover Financial Services, please contact me, I can't pay a lot but I would make it worth an attorneys time, if we could sue Discover Financial Services, achieve my desired outcome, and hopefully even have a case which gains negative media attention for Discover's unscrupulous practices.

I simply want Discover to recognize that they have an extremely dissatisfied, angry, disgruntled, activist customer out here, that is much more of a liability to them than I could ever be an asset, ***And I want them to forgive my remaining balance (Approximately $3, 500) and send me a letter officially ending my relationship with their company.

Problem: I am extremely dissatisfied with this company.

Solution: We both go our separate ways.

That simple. It is like how every now and then a restaurant has to comp a meal. Well Discover Financial Services are going to have to comp my bill. I must reiterate that I am not trying to weasel out of paying my bill. The fact I have already paid my bill 10 times over.
While Discover Financial Services tried to ignore this situation I will be out here fighting via every avenue imaginable until I find satisfaction and justice.

In closing Discover Financial Services is a White Collar Terrorist organization operating with impunity in The United States. History will look back on them as the criminals they are, and see the acts they have committed for the depravity, greed, ruthlessness, lawlessness, and as the treason that they are.

Raised my rates without cause, never late or over limit. Went from guaranteed rate of 3.9 to 5.9 to 8.9 to 10.9 then said next would be 18.9. CLosed account then. Got a 300 dollar cash advance in 2006, they raised its rate from 8.9 to 22.9 almost immediately. Paid over min every month, closed account in 2013. Discover never allocated any of my payments to higher interest payments only low interest balance and had the interest of the cash advance accruing at 22.9 percent the whole time. Have contacted them every year for interest reduction with no help at all. So for a 300 cash advance and about 3000 in purchases over 8 years, I have paid them a little over 15, 000 dollars and they still say I owe them 1900 dollars. According to my statement if I pay 55 a month will take 15 years to pay off, or 75 month for 3 years. I should have let the account go in 2013 and not paid a dime, it would have cleared my credit history 2 years ago. Closing the account hit my credit with a 55 point drop for closed account and for loss of total credit available. I will never use them again or let anyone I know use them.

The employees at Discover Card for the most of them are not customer service oriented, They just pretend to be . You can discern their attitudes through the phone lines. I applied for a loan with a representative and he didn't bother to ask me what was my gross income. Just asked a few questions only to say i wasn't qualified with an 850 credit score. Hmmmm. Some of their racist employees are just ignorant. With that being said Discover will soon have their day by THE ONE AND ALMIGHTY GOD HIMSELF!. I will not cease in praying that they get what they deserve. Regardless of how one acts, whether good or bad there is only one God and He is just and righteousness. It will soon come to pass that everyone in that organization that has fraudulent abuse their power for company's gain will pay for what they have done to innocent, hard working citizens such as these heart felt stories i have read. I AM PRAYING ON YOUR BEHALF, because that is the only way Discover can be dealt with. I've seen a lot of giants fall in my lifetime ...

Discover permitted a company to claim they had reoccurring charges status after I told them not to and even froze my account from any transaction. They ignored me and permitted the company to charge me anyway. I'm not paying it of course and so far have caused a 92 point hit to my credit report. The bright side is I already own everything I have outright and it won't hurt me at all but still I will not pay a bill I didn't make for a product I never got. They don't seem to grasp that concept because they seem to be use to theft also.

This complaint against both Marriott and Discover Credit Card Financial Services that both in secret conspiracy in the dark terrorizing our family ever since 2013 and still ongoing. It is about unethical practices led by Discover Card Financial Services who decided to sit on our back and eat us alive for the rest of our lives. Unresolved conflict for no product, no services, but nothing in his hands held by Viatcheslav from Marriott, but in the bad faith built up by Discover Card Financial Services has lasted for a long time since September 2013. Insufficient English of victims did not allow them to find out what to do, how to get help against power abuse and where to complain until now.
On August 13, 2013 Ludmila was on vacation in Hawaii. She was influenced by travel agent there, who completely misled about Timeshare product and disappeared, was not found, after that. Ludmila was unauthorized signer on the Discover Card account. However, the Discover card was built by Marriott Timeshare for initial payment of $2, 500.00. Occasionally, it was discovered that Timeshare Business is not so good to be true as promised and in one month attempt was made to cancel that tricky Timeshare agreement, but agent was not found and subsequently the Discover Card was asked to put charges in dispute. Please pay attention that nothing was bought or used by us and no product or present was received whatsoever, but $2, 500.00 were taken for nothing and payment got lost, disappeared, in hands of both Discover and Marriott and Viatcheslav was left with debt that continue damaging his credit history still. Discover card was instructed do not honor any bills from Marriott under Timeshare agreement, and proceed with dispute for $2, 500.00 initially paid to Marriott by Discover. However, Discover did not honor this request and did nothing to get $2, 500.00 back from Marriott, or at least acted like that. So, it is really unknown what Marriott or Discover did do with that money. Ludmila lives in CA and was not aware that Discover did do to Viatcheslav, who became a life time victim of financial companies because his inability to dispute, insufficient English, inability to take and hold stress in his ages. Ludmila got injured badly on December 2013 and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, fractured shoulder and other injuries and was hospitalized for one month and was in intensive recovery for nine months after that.
Occasionally, it was discovered that Discover card got their hands on Viatcheslav’s Santander bank checking account (which has no relation to the Discover credit card) and in secret conspiracy began charging small amounts from his account without any authorization or notification starting September 2013. Small charges were hidden and were not discovered by Viatcheslav, who had a difficulty to read and understand bills. It was not for the first time in history that Discover spied on Viatcheslav’s bank account. Ludmila tried to help Viatcheslav and requested to stop these illegal automatic charges. However, Discover card disregarded and did not fulfill the given instructions.
On March, 2014, Ludmila contacted Discover again but Discover continued their illegal activities and continued to charge the minimum payment due under the canceled contract. Simultaneously we blocked Discover card from getting money from Viatcheslav’s bank account and asked to close his Discover credit card account immediately and put all their unauthorized charges in dispute too. Discover card refused to fulfill that request too and did not close the Discover card account and has kept it opened forever until now. That terror began on September 2013 and still pressuring Viatcheslav’s credit history. Discover continued to attack and take advantage of Mr. Viatcheslav, whose insufficient knowledge of English helps perpetrators to abuse him. Mrs. Ludmila had a severe brain injury in December 2013 and was not able to argue any of these cases at that time. Discover Financial Services created more complicated issue by adding their illegal unauthorized automatic charges in addition to late fees, interest charges to cover up illegal charges for cancelled on September 2013 timeshare between us and Marriott. Ludmila asked Discover on behalf of Viatcheslav to stop their terror attacks of getting money for no product and use of nothing. Discover card disregarded and refused to abide with Discover card account holder request again. Instead, Discover set up attacks through the mail demanding payments and threatening to sue him. He was under constant pressure of threats by Discover card and could not stand the stress. Discover card continued illegally keep his account opened, but has never sent statements and refused to do so following our requests. It was found today that Discover Card Financial Services updated his account on June 15, 2018 with new debt of $4, 558.00.
Some day on September, 2013, Marriott was also asked to cancel the purchase and return the initial paid by Discover Card deposit of $2500.00. The respond never was received and the sales person disappeared, it was difficult to find who to talk to about it. We reasonably were thinking that Discover card should help, because we got nothing in our pocket and hands.
Discover card knowledgeably and willfully took advantage of vulnerability and proceeded with fraud ever since. Discover card fraudulently, in the dark continues to keep that account opened for almost five years now after Marriott Timeshare incident, and continues adding on the interest rate and late fees and now his credit history shows the debt of $4, 558.00. Overall Viatcheslav without any intent has already paid $4, 803.00 for nothing just to get rid of threats from Discover. We are exhausted that nothing can help against terrorists and it was a mistake to be weak against stress and pay them for nothing, imagine that they will leave him alone. This unbelievable story of power abuse and inability to find help that could stop those terrorists that easily with no fear take an advantage of two vulnerable elder adults.
The agent who was promoting and selling Marriott timeshare has disappeared. I, Ludmila reside in CA since 2008 and could not imagine that my requests and my calls on behalf of Viatcheslav and with his contest requesting to close the account were never considered and always ignored. Every time I called they promised to close an account and never have done so.
We have no more energy left to fight Discover card to stop charging Viatcheslav to pay for nothing. All his requests to cancel the agreement with Marriott and stop unauthorized payments by Discover card have never been fulfilled. Please help to stop that ongoing inhuman torture.

I often see signs in businesses that say, "Unfortunately, we do no accept Discover Cards due to unethical business practices." I was curious as to what made them any more unethical than the other credit card companies, and this definitely clears it up. I appreciate you taking a stand and I hope to see more businesses refusing to accept their cards.

Discover Bank / Discover Financial Services balance transfer

Beware of Discover's offer for 0% balance transfers. I was aware that there is a charge for balance transfers. However, I was surprised to learn that my minimum payment would be approx. 2% of the amount owed plus $40. I never encountered, on any credit card that I have, a $40 charge in addition to the 2% of the amount owed. Speaking to customer service reps or supervisors is talking to a wall. I was told that I was sent literature on this, but I did not receive it. And, by that time, the transfer most likely already went through. I am on a very limited income. Although I make more than the minimum balance on all my cards, it should be my choice if I decide to make the minimum only, should in that particular month my real estate taxes, car and /or home ownes insurance is due and I need that extra money. When you are on a limited income, $40 is $40. I can see where people get disgusted with banks and stop paying altogether. However, I end up paying for them in the end. And, so do you!

I was on a 12 month payment program with Discover card that allowed me a reduced interest rate of 14.99 %. For 12 months, a payment was automatically taken out of my bank account.
Now that the program has ended my new statement reflects a new interest rate of 28.99%. Really? My reward for being on their one year program equals a nearly double the interest rate? How am I supposed to be able to pay this down?
I called customer service and receive a letter in the mail stating, at this time they cannot lower my rate.
