Direct loans consolidation program / personnel
I called to have a perkins loan consolidated with the rest of loans which had already been consolidated. For some unknown reason, this one loan remained outstanding. In September an employee walked me through the site and choose the appropriate application and guided me through the questions. I called a week later and 8 days later and 9 days later until finally I was told that the consolidation was solid and all was well. My calls were recieved by different operators each time and no one was ever familiar with my case. Often times, someone's complete disinterest culminated in a dial tone after a few minutes of talking to me.
It would take 60 days. I waited two weeks and I had a funny feeling about all this so I called again and was told that my application and my consolidation was all fine.
One month into this I call again to find out why I havent recieved a letter or email of any kind indicating that my consolidationg had been filed etc. I was then told that I filled out the wrong application. I had already applied for a post graduate program at college that was necessary for my employment in Sept. and had no way of paying it. I explained this was very important and eventually found an operator that took the time to find me the appropriate application and helped me to fill it out again. I begged this woman to please let me work with her again as she already was aware of my case. She gave me her name but when I asked for her I was met with scorn, rudeness and was hung up on three times. Im still not sure why. I was told once again that this time my application was correct, the consolidation would be complete in 30 to 60 days. I spoke to the college loan department and they agreed to waive me through until the consolidation. I recieved a letter stating that in 10 days my loanwould be consolidated. I was so happy.
Then I call to find out why I havent recieved any other notice and the loan is still not cleared.
Well...THEY TELL ME THAT MY LOANS WERE ALL CONSOLIDATED BUT FOR THE PERKINS. I said..you mean YOU CONSOLIDATED THE LOANS THAT WERE ALREADY CONSOLIDATED????? THE APPLICATION WAS TO INCORPORATE THE PERKINS LOAN ONTO IT...SO WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH MY APPLICATION???? I have to pay 4200 for my classes and I cannot go on to finish my program or keep my job.
I am livid. Now the rude little ### on the phone tells me that it will be another 30 to 60 days and no one can tell me why or guarantee me that there wont be another problem in two months. All I keep getting is an indifferent...sorry, i understand your problem but there is nothing I can do and I was lucky he didnt hang up on me.
Im calling the US education department and general attorneys office and anyone else I can think of. This will be the third time I have to call in a personal day at work so I can chase after this consolidation.
I am so distraught over this lack of professionalism. Do they hire incompetent people on purpose? Are these people trained to act stupid, disinterested and rude? On every level our country is falling into disarray and incompetence.
