Thoughts from all the way down under in Australia.
Once upon a time there was a great company called MSD, they made great products, proudly made by Americans. Then along came the accountants, these were hired as Wise Men, who new the way to drive profits up. It was simple, really simple; MSD had a great name around the world for QUALITY ignition parts. The accountants said, these people only buy our products because our products carry the name MSD, a name that inspires confidence in a product. The accountants said, all we have to do is lower the manufacturing cost, and our bottom line will grow. The people will still buy the product, as it still carries the proud MSD name. So to fatten up the bottom line, the accountants suggested, let's build some products in China, they will come in the same packaging bearing the MSD name. The accountants were right for a time, the products continued to sell, the profits went up.
But then one day, the world discovered, that the MSD name, no longer assured a quality product. Then the short spell of high profits came to an end. The reason; why buy an MSD product, when the consumer can buy the same product, made in the same poor quality factories, at a much cheaper price.
Along came Pro Comp, and the people said, "Hey, we know its crap from China, but at least it's honest about being made in China. Unlike MSD, that still pretends to be American. Such a shame that MSD is, slowly screwing over American employees.
For what, some short term profits??
So the people started buying the cheaper Pro Comp, because the proud name of MSD no longer meant anything.
Up until I got an MSD product, with made in China on the box, I was their greatest marketing tool. Not to mention my own purchases. It is people like me and thousands of others who whenever asked, used to promote the MSD product. Now all we say is “It’s all the same crap, just buy the cheapest one. “
Well done MSD, your name has turned to ###, all the way to Australia.
Were the profits worth it??
