My name is Carson Johnson. I hav purchased over three pairs of this product and have had nothing but problems. The Dakota quad comfort work boots are a comfortable pair of boots however, they have a defective soul which has caused me to almost fall off of rooftops, trip on re-bar, and have actually ripped in the same spot in less than a year in all three pairs i have owned. I have tried to return these boots to the Marks work wharehouse where I purchased them and have been told that I must have a receipt to return them even though they have a year warranty. I believe that i should be re-embersed with the money or have an exchange right due to the warranty. I would not have a problem if the boots did not split at the toe on every single pair i have purchased. I understand that that work and safety boots do wear out but, not under a year of the purchase date. This consistent tear at the toe has almost caused physical injury and has become a serious expense as i have had to buy a pair every few months at the price of 159.99. I am a construction labourer and can not afford to buy a pair of descent work boots this often. I am hoping and pushing for some kind of justice to be done in regards to this matter. Thank you sincerely.

I love the Dakota work, they look nice, very comfortable, light weight, but in last 3 years my experience with the Dakota work boot has declined due to the quality of the boot, but the price is top $$$, I have a pair of Dakota work boots that I bought awhile ago, nice looking boot but they broke in the sole because the steel in the sole was only covering half the sole so after wearing them for 4 months they cracked off in the sole, pretty sure I paid close to $300 for them,I still wear them because they are still in decent shape otherwise.

My boots as well. Hardly worn, and yet the polyurethane soles are crumbling off as I walk. At this point the steel plates in the soles is exposed. It is way past its warranty. The top part of the boot is looking great, but the sole is in rough shape. This is definitely a product defect, not normal wear and tear. It's strange that I can not find a website for this company!

My Dakota work boots lasted three weeks before the soles came off.
I'm retired so I didn't do much work except bring in the firewood and wore them everyday.
They are comfortable but are defective.
Since they were bought a year ago and stored in a closet till I started using them a month ago I'm hooped.
Kind of pissed off.

I'm not sticking up for either Dakota or Marks, but I just bought a pair of Dakota boots to replace my current Dakota workboots. I'm a welder and stand on concrete all day, use them to kick metal parts around on skids/pallets, etc... the pair I'm replacing is *7 year* old and they're still fine. The soles are wearing smooth but not a single problem aside from that (which is just usual wear). Maybe quality control has slipped since I bought my last pair, but they held up just great, and I could probably STILL wear them for another couple years. Also, remember: people will riot in the streets when they're unhappy about something (eg. politics) but won't through a parade to show their apprecation. My point: for every msg on here about a bad experience, there's probably 5000 happy customers with the same boots. 'Just saying. Anyway, time will tell on how my new pair hold up.

I also had no problems before but my brother bought me a pair of work boots last Christmas.
I didn't start wearing them till about three weeks ago. The soles are coming off and damn near made me fall.
During the last month all it did was run an excavator for six hours and the rest of the time I just wore them doing nothing mostly because I'm retired. The hardest work I did was bring in the firewood. They are defective. I'm not even going to waste my time complaining to Mark's after reading what happened to others. I'm just going to glue the damn things back on myself. However when I happen to be close to the store I'm just going to see what they say about it. I'm due for a couple grand worth of cloths and if they lie to me I'll be buying them elsewhere. lol. Three weeks. Hahahaha. ricks@lookieloo.net

I have Dakota boots with ballistic nylon outer shell mammoth 2 they were 239.00 + after wearing for 2 months last winter operating a water truck in northern AB with a set of studded rubbers over the boots and one week on a pulp mill shutdown this September the stitching is coming apart where the tongue attached to the boot I like the comfort but these boots will not last and seem to be getting worse this this was my second and last pair . I usually get 3 years out of work boots even the cheep ones so am not hard on boots also Dakota is owned by Marks their own brand name. I feel Marks is like so many other companies who build a good name and once they have it cheep out and screw their clients

I work at Dakota Outerwear Company in Minot, ND, USA. We get on average 12+ phone calls a week complaining about these boots. Dakota outerwear is not affiliated with Dakota Boots in any way shape or form - we do not manufacture them or sell them. We have contacted Mark's numerous times, yet their stores still give customers our contact information for warranty claims. PLEASE DO NOT CALL US! We can not help you and will only direct you back to Mark's.

SAME PROBLEM HERE... 3 months after I purchased these boots for my husband, they leak like crazy. Can't afford to buy boots constantly. Marks is horrible with their new returning policies or as I call it "NO RETURN POLICY." They won't do anything for us since there is "wear on the tread", yet they will exchange/refund for items for up to 100 days (with receipt). WHO WEARS BOOTS FOR 99 DAYS AND DOESN'T WEAR THE TREAD? Maybe the dude who sleeps on the job. Have had this problem before. I'll never buy from Mark's EVER AGAIN.

Dakota is the worst company & Marks Is spoiling it's name by selling that co.'S product & worst thing is by not doing return, refund or by exchanging.
Customer trust on Marks co. & Marks needs to maintain' QUALITY PRODUCT ' NOT DEGRADE PRODUCT POOR WORKER TRUST ON MARKSDAKOT & THEY GOT RIPPED, NOT BY MONEY BUT WITH SAFETY TOO.
ONE THING IS CLEAR IF THEY DON'T REFUND, RETURN OR EXCHANGE GO TO CONSUMER COURT OR SLEEP & FALL'S CASE, WHEN THEY PAY GOOD AMOUNT OF CLAIM TO EACH ONE THEN THEIR EYES WILL OPEN.

I wish I had done more research into Dakota Work boots' before buying at Marks WorkWarhouse. After just a few months they are coming about at the seams. My partner can't even tie them up any longer.

I too purchased a pair of the new Dakota surveyors on nov 22. The new winterized boot with the diamond tread for anislip purposes. My company prefers us to deal with Marks work warehouse and assured us that these boots were perfect for our job, working on the ground and ballast and on trains in our lovely saskatchewan winter weather. I didnt even manage to make it through one season before these boots fell appart and because it happens to be at 120 days over purchace date, Marks now gets the privilage of refusing to do anything for me. They know they sell CRAP and wont stand by there products and whats worse it Dakota is obviously aware that thier boots arn't standidng up. They claim that if their product is faulty it will be apparent in the first 100 days. I call BS, they've abviously figured out that most boots can witstand 100 days of work before they will fall apart due to defects. I will be boycotting all Marks stores and refusing to buy any dakota products. Stupid companies dont seem to realise that in any trade job word gets around many workers, I myself work with over 350 trades employees in one terminal and all have access to a shared website with our company.

I agree with Carson Johnson from Aurora. My husband purchased a pair of Dakota from Mark's Work Wearhouse in Huntsville, Ontario in April of 2012. Like Mr. Johnson's pair of Dakota workboots, my husband's sole has also come away from the boot. We took the boots and the receipt back to the Huntsville Location and the assistant manager's response was sorry, but the 100 day warranty is over. No exchange, no refund. His response also included that individuals were bringing the books back more that once during the year and taking advantage of the warranty. After reading these comments I have come to the conclusion that the Dakota workboots need revamping. There are too many negative responses to make a person believe that this problem is entirely due to wear and tear. I suggest that you look at your quality control before these boots are put on the market for sale. This is a small town and negativity towards a store can do more harm than good, and bad publicity regarding work books will destroy the work boot department of this store.Because of the negative response from the assistant manager at the Huntsville location, I and my husband will not be returning and my husband's co-workers who work with my husband will be told not to buy workboots from this particular store. I would also like to see some reimburse regarding these boots either as a refund or a different brand of boots, as we to cannot afford to buy a pair of work boots every year at $160.00 a pair. I have had boots that I have paid $20.00 for and they have lasted 4 years. This is unacceptable.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I have two pair of the boots...same thing. The sole on one pair (both boots) has completely separated and the other pair is showing signs of same. There were several people on site here in Africa that liked the boots but I have advised them not to buy them. I thought it was just the heat in Texas and Africa, but it appears to be a problem everywhere. I'll bring my "Redwings" down next tour.

I work outside in the maintenance field and I too have had the soul of a $200.00 pair of Dakota 400's separate at the rear soul and various areas along the side .These boots are 6 months old and the lady at Mark's stated that the warranty is 6 mo.'s and there is nothing they can do .I own a pair of Kodiak Greb boots from when I was a teenager (I'm 49 now) and they are still in tact execpt the soul has no tread left so they cannot be used for safety reasons. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY $200.00 BOOTS EVERY SIX MONTHS, but I would assume that a Multi-Million dollar company such as them could help out the few people who got stuck with this problem . I am sure in the Construction Industry alone, the word of mouth could spread like wid fire and I would assume they would'nt want that to happen.I really would love to see a "Contact us" section on their web-page so I could write this letter directly to them, but I could not find any way to contact them. This isn't over yet!

i just had a 230 dollar pair of Dakota's with the "tarantula" grip completely come apart at the back right above ther reflective strip. they are 90 days old and Marks won't honor the warranty because I don't have the receipt (three months later).. Marks and the dakota people ( who's homepage cant be found?!) can get bent ! Watch me fly over to RedWing . I guess they'll keep sucking in newer tradesmen all the time . BTW I'm an electrician and don't stand in concrete or chemicals ETC. Honestly a terrible way to do business. I'm actually considering filing a complaint with my union as they deal with Mark's all the time. Maybe they'd like to lose a few THOUSAND customers?
