Cultural Care Au Pair / International Care Cultural Care doesn't care about you

I am a mother of a one year-old baby girl. I am heartbroken and embarrassed. I am sour and furious.

My one year-old baby girl was neglected and emotionally abused by the au pair that Cultural Care provided me with.

At the time of presenting this candidate, Cultural Care didn’t provide me with a full background disclosure and previous families contact information. I asked for it and I was told she had only been with one family. Knowing that we would be her 5th host family in a less than 10-month period would made me decide to pass on this candidate. But this information was hidden from me. Cultural Care screening process has the lowest standard, the way they operate is unethical and unresponsive.

They adamantly refuse to provide me with evidence that this au pair is no longer part of the program, and that she has left the country. As far as I know she could be placed right now with another host family that soon will learn their children aren’t the same. Even more, she can be an illegal alien.

Spare yourself, and if you have a bad experience with Cultural Care, post it everywhere and complain to the state agency that regulates them in your state.

This is the most horrible agency. They lie to the host families and put them under distress. The au pairs are not vetted. They tell au pair's to lie and say they love cooking and cleaning. My au pair refused to wipe the counters, refused to take out the garbage, and acted disrespectful and resentful toward me saying that I shouldn't ask my children to put away my dishes because I treat them like 'my assistants.' Rude, nasty, and deceiving. She also took my clothes and said my 10 year old gave them to her. I don't know what else she took. She is gone after weeks of hell but Cultural Care Au Pair is trying to keep all my $.

I was with Cultural Care and lived with a family for 2 years. I enjoyed every second, love the family to no end and even after 3 years still visit at least once a year. I guess I was really lucky. I had a lot of friends who experienced horrible families that only used the Au Pairs for cheap labor and not as "part of the family". I also heard stories from families about au pairs that were terrifiying as well. I had a good experience with Cultural Care and a good LCC during my time. I do have to admit that the blame is with the agency and the lack of screening people. Starting with the LCC they don't pick the greatest, qualified people (heard from friends who were with other LCCs than me) often those ladies only want to get their au pair free or discounts. The thought behind the whole program is awesome but the lack of background check will eventually destroy the trust and at the end this kind of program. The screening of families as well as au pairs has to improve greatly!
My advice: If you have a bad feeling during the interview process (on either side) go with what your guts tell you! I don't know if other agencies are any better then cultural care as I met girls from different agencies as well who didn't have the greatest times and felt abandoned by their LCCs. Go with what feels right for you!

hi ladies, i was a nanny for over 8 years, i'm an immegrant too, i worked as a part time nanny with a family who had an Au pair, to my experience the house wife was so hard on that girl, she buys organic food for her family and regular stuff for the Au pair, she asked her for favors all the time, cleaning, making the beds, laundry...never been satisfied with what the aupair does, she asked her not use the phone, not to come downstaires when the family is there. you have to know that the aupair is a young person who came here to study and help with the kids, they are not experienced to do something like this, they get tired, frustrated, they cry a lot, with noone to comfort them. if you're expecting an 18 years old spoiled student to watch your kid, care for, and clean after you and your child, you are either blind or stupid. you have to know for your self that they're not qualified for this job, sheap labor that's what you get, the one to blame here it's you and the agency.
if you want a good nanny either you have to pay more to ask for a quality, or you have to go to a third world country to get someone who really needs that job and can really care about your child and if you're lucky enough she can drive and speak English.

I was an au pair ( or should I say -cheap worker). First of all "up to 45 h a week" it is NOT a help, it's a regular nanny job that I was paid $140 a week "pocket money". With one Sat a month off - remaining 3 I was with the kids till 11 pm. So what that the kids were in school ( the younger one till 11.30 am), what "free" time? Kids loundry, "tiding up" ( yeah, right...) playing area, ocasionally vacuming everything, being with kids till 6.30 pm then running to the classes... I was ending up not taking a shower or flushing the toilet 'cause I had my OWN room with the BATH (yay!) right next to one girl's room, separated with the wall of "paper" and I was scared to death to wake her up... After this one year I was a mental wreck. After 7 years I still have nightmares. Don't get me wrong - I know there are a lot of great families... Well - it wasn' t my case. How about we are gonna write "tell it all" book ?

Cultural Care is the worse agency ever!. I hope this program will dissapear in United States and the rest of the world. I totally agree whit the other commets because when whe arrived to this country everything looked peaceful and so wonderful but the truth is that mostly all the families treat us like a slave and they expect to do a lot of things : claning for the family and house. In my case, I've lived with a family in weschester who offended me verbal with such a bad words. In the begining I didnt Understand what this woman said but after one year ... I understood completely what she said, she offended me with rudly behavior and she expect me to done things that I didnt have to do. A lot of time I tried to reach my LCC S. wider and she didnt give me an answer. I told her I was working for more that 45 hours per week and just one day off. This is totally ridiculous, because I supposed to come to this country for study but THIS IS THE IDEA THAT CULTURAL CARE makes in our mind! EVERYTHING WILL BE WONDERFUL! it is not truth... If anybody is introuble rigth now ... let me know . I am in my country but we have a group against to Cultural care Aupair around the world... but we need more people who tell us the experience that they have been leaving with the family. I know that there are a lot of families who are nice... but it happens ir you are a lucky person...

It is just funny the way we talk abou Au pair . I had a crazy experience with families (4 families) in the United States. Thanks God that I am no longer Au Pair. We came from distant coutries, far from our families to work with crazy and neurotic people. Many times I had a bad treatment, like a slave. I had an upset stomach once, in one of the families and my "hostmom" forced me to eat because she had paid for my food ... great experience. I drive everywhere and never had probelem about it. The problem is that we came here to take care of children and we take care of animals, household, cleaning, and the in most of the cases we are treated like animals. It is unbelievable!

I have had several aupairs over the years and have had about 2 good au pairs out of the 7 the girls that were pretty good were the girls who are not looking to find a boyfriend or husband but are genuinely here for the children and family I have used cultural care hated this service agree with all of the above statements. Went to au pair care and am on my 3rd aupair with this agency. I interview them thoroughly and give no false expectations as to the hours the flexability that I need during the week the ones that have convinced me they were the right person for the job were great until they made friends or a boyfriend then the help was a lot less and there needs were coming first they also rush to go out. They become greedy and self centered they forget why they are here and how they got here and how much extra they receive until you take it back . Things that you are not required to give in the contract that are taken for granted by the au pairs.
the service is no help in this area they talk to you as if you are stupid. Most of the girls listed as drivers can not drive unless they are from Germany.(but the euro is greater than the American $ so these girls feel like slaves if you do not take them on vacation or give them a lot of perks !) My kids leave for school at 8:30 and arrive home at 3:30 the au pair hardly works and still complains if I ask a favor. I tried to rely on outside help but can not afford to miss work if someone has the sniffles or is running late other girls outside the agency ask for 500 to 600/week.

We had a wretched experience with CCA. We went through 4 au pairs, and kept being told we were "unique" and that our experience was unlike any others. They hold you with the money they are keeping and we kept praying we would be able to have a great experience, as we believed in the program concept. The lies we were told from everything as benign as allergies to severe as childcare and driving experience (lack of) and smoking history is unethical. The way the agency handled us simply disgusted us. Stay away from this company.

Cultural Care Au Pair / International Care - Awful experience

This agency is a sham operation. They specialize in trafficking young international women as au pairs and placing them in U.S. homes for childcare. They are not trained or experienced to do so. Their applications are falsified and references are from family members, not real childcare refs. They charge large amounts of money to the host family and the au...
