Credit Protection Association wrongful claim

I cancelled my services at another location for 12/27/10 and attempted to have new service at my new home, however Comcast was not able to perform the install for many inane reasons, so I cancelled service entirly with Comcast. Subsquent I received a refun check from Comcast, and that ended my envolvement with Comcast. I recieved a collection notice from CPA 4 wks ago, contacted Comcast who had no information regarding an issue, and they told me that they would investigate this claim and call back, they have yet to do so. Today I recieved a 2nd notice fro CPA, and am not able to reach anyone by phone and being told by recorded message that you have to submit any questions or proof in writting...Is this a real company?

I've been invoiced by Frontier Communications for 111.14 for what I do not know? They say for early termination of my contract I say what contract? I neither have a written or oral contract. They have to show me proof! I have discussed this situation several times with Frontier, and they stated they would get back with me and never had. Until they prove to me I owe this bill, they won't get a penny.

I received a bill from CPA stating I owed them $45 from a Comcast bill for not returning a cable box which I provided them a receipt for. I've heard that most cable companies do this to scam their customers out of more money. I had my cable box replaced a month into the service and out of the 2 years of service this issue never came up until now. I'm not paying them a dime and neither should you. Please keep all receipts when dealing with cable companies especially when returning their equipment. Good Luck!

Credit Protection Association bad business

I have a bill with Charter communication for $98. I called and told them I would pay off in full in 1 wk. Within that week I got a report from the credit bureau informing me this was on there. Go figure they couldnt hold out one week? Since already on my report I made only half the payment. Instead of being credited making a payment on my account on the report they now have put on my credit report a whole new account plus the old account on my credit report. So damn me for making a payment. Now I have to figure out how to get this off my credit report. And these people NEVER answer the phone!

Got a paper from credit protection asking to pay blockbuster Rs 470. I was never aware of this balance and paid it right away. Will this be reported to the credit bureau? when do collection agencies report debts?

Credit Protection Association continued harassment

I had Comcast Cable. I returned the equiptment to them on 10/31/09 and got a receipt for it. When my bill came for $44.84 I threw away my receipt for turning in the equiptment. A couple of weeks later I got a different bill from Comcast with the charge of $44.84 + one for $35.31 for "unreturned equiptment". I immediately called and was told they probably inadvertently didn't scan the modem in when I turned it in. After this I got several more letters from a company named Credit Protection Association in Dallas, Texas. I contacted them and sent them a letter stating everything I had already indicated to both Comcast and to them previously. I also told them I disputed the $35.31 charge and was remitting "payment in full" in the amount of $44.84 and that by them depositing the check they were acknowledging that the account was paid in full. Well they cashed the check and then sent me another collection notice with "PAY NOW" stamped in bold red letters on it. They then went on to write that they ONLY accept partial payments if prior arrangements were made. Well they accepted my payment and still harass me. They don't answer their phones and continually send me letters for the payment which I do not owe. I have moved in with my fiance who has Brighthouse and has had Brighthouse for a while. We are not in an area serviced by Comcast so their equiptment would serve me no purpose. I am sick and tired of the harassment! I demand it stop!

The stupid phone cow got angry when I was able to prove that I had PAID Comcast in full and still had an active account with them and therefore owed NOTHING to anyone. I'm soooooooooooo not happy. Forget comcast. I'm closing my account with them just cuz they deal with this stupid company.

Credit Protection Association Reported to the credit bureaus!

I disconnected my cable with time warner cable who i had service with for 15 years because i moved out of the area. i owed them approx $130.00. I get a bill from these people for over $500.00. Yes I did return my boxes. They tell me that I had a contract with them and that I disconnected before my contract was up! I am disputing this and was making good faith payments to this collection agency. Theyy promised to keep it off my credit report until it was resolved. Today I checked my credit report and it is on there and not reflecting any payments I made and they even put seriously past due! my credit score dropped over 120 points from them. I am buying my house right now and they do this. I AM CALLING THE FTC FIRST THING IN THE MORNING! I have disputed it with experian already, i have written my dispute letter to them and am sending it over now! This company makes promises that they do not keep!

UPDATE: I REPORTED THEM TO THE FTC THE BBB THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THEIR LOCAL CONGRESSMAN ON 12/2/2009
12/3/2009 I RECEIVED THIS VIA MY BBB REPORT
RECEIVE BUSINESS RESPONSE
IN RESPONSE TO YOUR PRIOR CORRESPONDENCE, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT CPA HAS CLOSED IT'S COLLECTION FILE AND CEASED COLLECTION EFFORTS WITH RESPECT TO THE FOREGOING ACCOUNT. PLEASE BE ASSURED THAT THIS MATTER HAS BEEN UPDATED AT THE CREDIT BUREAUS AS ACCOUNT REPORTED IN ERROR.

Now this is all you have to do people. when you have a report that is in dispute and you feel you are being taken advantage of. The debt is more than you think it should have been. I did pay off the original balance of $130.00 to Time Warner which I owed. The rest of it was hog wash unfair charges. If you feel that the debt is not yours do the same. If you feel they are charging you for early disconnection fees do the same. However if it is your debt sorry you will have to pay. I hope this helps everyone! This company is just after money, they are a complete fraud. I have been disputing a bill, that's not even mine for months now. Everytime I dispute the bill, they update it as a valid debt. Its clear that the people who work in that department does not even try to verify that the debt it is accurate. My first and last name and ssn did not match the account, but still they updated my credit report. What else do they need to prove that accout isn't mine? Then I was informed that I had to prove it wasn't my debt? Really? I sent my credit report and information in twice and to this day this debt is still on my credit report. I'm just so frustrated, they have complete idiots working there or at least in the dispute department.

Credit Protection Association Unpaid Balance for Cable Equipment

They keep insisting that I owe Charter Communications for unreturned equipment. I returned the equipment last March. They say now that I owe more than $200 for something I don't have! If I still had it when I needed them to hook my cable back up, they wouldn't have done it. I took the equipment to their Belleville IL office. They gave me a reciept for it. Charter needs to check their books. I'm really tired of this collection agency contacting me through the mail & not sending me to a live person when I call them. They say I have to send proof through snail-mail. This is bull-###!

Credit Protection Agency make a negative hit on my credit report in October 2009 saying I have a past due balance of $205 and the original creditor is Comcast. I contacted Comcast and they confirmed that my account was in fact closed October 2008 and I owe them no money and my equipment was returned. What really concered is obviously Comcast must of provide this information via list etc where this company can fradulently place hits on credit reports.

Credit Protection Association Cannot contact anybody

Credit Protection Association contacted me several months ago about a delequent account that I admit I did not pay. Their first attempt to contact me I did call and pay. I attempted to pay this fee online through their site and it kept telling me they had technical issues. The second attempt was through the phone, which was successful, or so I thought. The thing that irritates me the most is when the transaction was said to be made, they gave me a conformation number that was about 60 characters long and since it was automated, there was no way I could keep up with how fast it was being repeated, and before I could get it all wrote down, they disconnected my call.
I received a letter in the mail two months later telling me that account was still delequent. I never was charged for the amount out of my bank account, so I knew something was wrong. When you pay through the phone, they ask you to submit a telephone number so they can contact you incase your transaction does not go through, I never received another phone call.
I have been attempting to find ways to contact Credit Protection Association to ask why they never called when there was an obvious problem, and instead reported me to the national credit bureaus to mess up my credit. Their service is second to none in being pretty piss-poor and someone needs to force these people to have a direct contact number rather than saying I have to write a letter to them and mail it to them in order to discuss my dispute or other information about my account. If they couldn't get my payment the first time because of their service being so poor, then how am I supposed to believe they will get or even read my letter for that matter. Pathetic. Due to their choice in using this collection agency, I will never have service through Mediacom again.

For a company who deals with collections one would think that you could talk to a live person. I was given a direct contact number to J.W. Preston at [protected] which is nothing more than a recording which hangs up on you when they are done, total time of call 35 seconds. I also called the [protected] and did not enter any information and was hung up on, call time was a total of 2 minutes and 1 second. ok here is another update as I am writing this as I attempt to contact them. I tried every option that they had avalible and still could not reach anybody to speak with. I am calling during there normal business hours, which are Monday thru Friday 08:00 am to 9:00pm(21:00) CST. These calles that I made started at 4:00(16:00) and I endede at 4:39(16:39 CST which clearly is within the time of their normal business hours. I am really frusterated with this type of business practice. Good luck to anyone who is willing to listen to the automated system that they have avalible.

Credit Protection Association False Credit Reporting

This company keeps sending threatening notices no matter how many times I try to explain to them that the cable box they are trying to bill me for was, in fact, picked up in person by the cable guy. Time Warner isn't even sending me bills, but these people just don't care. No phone call or letter seems to slow them down. Merchants should beware being associated with this unethical company. I've never sued anyone in my life but am very close to bringing action against them.

Hi I'm K.B Jr. I'm on here to make a complaint on the company and its employee's especially one of the agents name Christina this agent has the worst attitude tonight with me and my parents she hung up in ours faces, and really didn't care to help us with our problem. Also when she was asked to transfer us to a supervisor she hung up. This company has wrongfully placed my account on my father's credit report and when we asked Ms. Christine to help us her attitude was extremely stank.

Credit Protection Association False credit reporting!

For just over 4 years Credit Protection Assoc, of Dallas, TX, has maintained a report on my credit that I paid a collection to them for AT&T Broadband, at an address in southwest Denver, CO, that I never lived at. (2621 South Knox Ct.). Comcast, which bought out AT&T Broadband, has submitted a letter to the collector informing them that I never had service at that address, and that I did not have a past-due account with either cable company during the time frame alleged. I have also requested in writing proof that I paid this collection and the requested proof has been denied me on the grounds that they don't have records of paid collections. I have had the 3 major credit-reporting agencies investigate this item and all 3 have refused to remove it despite letters from Comcast. What can I do? There are 3 people in the Denver-area with the same first & last name and middle initial as I have. At the time of the alleged default I was living at 2600 South Rock Creek Parkway, Building #10 Apt #204, in Superior, CO. The complex management had joint cable, phone, and internet service with an outfit called Simcom during my residence there. This is a Boulder County address that is nearly 30 miles northwest of the Denver County address where the alleged default occurred. Credit Protection Assoc has not proved that the debt was mine despite repeated requests in writing, and has ignored contrary proof from the original account holder. I'm sure that my credit score has been negatively affected by their action, by as much as 1/2 to 3/4ths of a point on over $200K of mortgage debt, and $10K worth of credit card debt. For whatever reason they think nothing of falsely reporting erroneous information. And so far, any resolution has escaped me. I have lived since late 2001 in Broomfield, CO. This item appeared as if by magic on my credit just after I bought my current home. Despite quite a bit of effort on my part I'm still left with an erroneous item on my credit thanks to a previous mistake by Credit Protection Associates, whom attempting to work with has proven to be impossible.

Thank-you,
Mark C. Richardson.

Credit Protections Assocation (CPA) erroneously reporting information to credit bureau on a cable account that was never late or delinquent. Disputing this information through the credit bureau results in CPA confirming that the account is paid/closed but it will not remove the item from your report. CPA will tell you that you have to contact the cable company to have them submit a letter or phone call to show that your account was never late or delinquent. Cable company says they no longer own your account and depending on how old your account is they can't pull up this information. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP - look up the headquarters for the cable company and make every effort to get proof that you were not late or delinquent and therefore CPA should have never opened their account under your name in the first place. PLEASE DO NOT STOP THERE if this happens to you. Place a consumer complaint at: 1) the Federal Trade Commission, [protected] or www.ftc.gov and Better Business Bureau. This company should not be reporting or getting paid for erroneous information. The Federal Trade Commission will investigate if this shows to be a pattern affecting many consumers.

Same thing happened to me with Credit Protections Association. I would recommend that you don't allow CPA to get away with this run around they try and give you. First, make every effort to contact the cable companies headquarters to get proof that you were never delinquent or late on your account or that you never had an account with them in the first place. Second, place a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at [protected] or www.ftc.gov and Better Business Bureau. The FTC will complete an investigation on this company if there are numerous consumers having this same issue with this company.

hello - same situation here with a supposed debt for adelphia, now comcast - send them a 'cease and desist' letter - everyone should know their rights and that you DO NOT have to deal with third party collectors. sending them all 'cease and desist' letters would hopefully put them all out of business!:

http://www.moodyreview.com/files/Cease%20and%20Desist%20Sample%20Letter.doc

ask them for their fax number and the account number they have on file and fax the letter to them. this way you have a fax confirmation as proof. or, send with delivery confirmation return receipt. when you tell them you're going to fax a 'cease and desist' letter, they will say 'oh...' and hang up. if they contact you again after that, file a complaint with the ftc!:

https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

the 'cease and desist' letter also addresses the fact that if they place information on your credit report you will hire an attorney and take action against them. this should result in them removing any and all information from your credit report!

Good luck!

I have had similar regarding a bill they I owe Charter, which I dont. I paid Charter in full and returned all their equipment As noted in other complaints, I cannot get through to a live person. Their web site is designed for businesses that want collection services. There is no link for a consumer to file a complaint against the business, in this case Charter, for false/inaccurate billing.

Credit Protection Association appeared on my credit report for an account supposedly opened 5 years ago. I have been trying to contact the company for two weeks and have not gotten a response to my endless calls or my three letters. How do they have the "right" to screw up my credit rating but I don't have the right to find out what exactly I am being charged for much less how to resolve it.

You may also want to contact your local Attorney General for your State and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. I am doing that too.

I wrote to them 3 times because I do not owe the money they say I do. Good luck to you... perhaps if AG Abbott gets enough complaints, this will stop for all of us.
