Credit One Bank fraudulently charges late fees even when you do everything in your power to pay your bill on time. I called a week ahead of my due date to notify them of payment and I paid online on 2/27/2009. I paid a little over my minimum payment and printed Credit One's Printer Friendly MY BILL PAYMENT RECEIVED, complete with their logo, date of...

Credit One Bank illegal billing practices and harassment

First off this company has been known to rip people off and they have lawsuits coming out the a**. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and Office of Thrift Supervision.

I have one of these cards, i was late on a payment by 2 days and was charged a late fee (which i understand) so my account went to -$38 due to the $32 late fee they charged me, well today i went to check my account online and see if they received my payment of $100 that i sent early this week and i noticed my account was now at -$111, how did it go from -$38 to -$111 basically overnight. Customer service gives me the run around or cant explain why.I threatened to file a complaint on them with the FTC and BBB as well as the FBI.They quickly hung up on me...how's that for being professional.

They refuse to fix the mistakes on my account and when i said "ok i want to close this account" they said there would be a fee to close it, and they wouldn't close it until everything was paid up.

Anyways my credit line was only $250.00 but they are now claiming after calling back right now that I owe $366.00.Granted i was only late a $20 payment by 2 days

After doing some research i found out Credit One has been known to sit on payments just so they can charge people late fees and other ridiculous charges. Example the first month i had this card, they didn't process my monthly payment until 2 weeks after the due date, funny thing is i sent it a week and a half before it was even due and i have bank receipts to prove it.

These people have been sued before by the government, they were ordered to pay back millions in money they took from unsuspecting customers, however they just changed their name to Credit One Bank in hopes to avoid paying any money. They were known as First National Bank Of Marin.

I feel your pain Amy, i recently sent in $75 payment but they charged me $62 in late fee's and over the limit payments, however they cashed my payment on time so i should never have been over the limit in the first place. It's fradulent billing for sure.

My account statement(from their website) looks like this:

Aug 18/09 $75 payment received

Aug 20/09 $62 fee's and charges ($30 late fee and $32 over the limit fee)

This crap is so illegal it's not funny, they act like most of us customers are to stupid to pay attention or realize what is going on.

This company calls me constantly at all hours of the day. I eventually started blocking the numbers they're calling from, but they keep calling from different numbers. Even when I make payments on the account, I get multiple calls. This is getting ridiculous. I have reported them, so we'll see what happens.

Credit One Bank fradulent billing

I had submitted for a credit card from this company (CreditOne Bank). When I received the card via the mail, I called to activate the card, the company representive told me that there was an annual fee for this card. I told the rep to cansel. (I was never informed of any annual fees when I submitted). Today, I have received two mailings from CreditOne Bank:

1. Acknowledgement of card cansellation.

2. A billing statement: "ENROLL FEE*FINANCE CHRG* LAS VEGAS, NV 11a1201200974SHY752 - $69.00"

and "ANNUAL FEE 02/09 THROUGH 02/09 - $5.75"

TOTAL CHARGES: 74.75

I will be submitting a copy of this complaint, concerning this fradulent action by this fradulent bank to the Better Business Bureau for their involvement. I would encourage anyone having problems with this company to write to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for Las Vegas, Nevada and to the BBB for City of Industry in California.

I got this card accessed it for emergencies only, have never used it, then low and behold I received a bill.A BILL FOR WHAT? Never using this card has already cost me a 250.00 bill. And thats not adding on all the fees I seem to have accumulated. Now how does that work? Racking up bills and never leaving the wallet. Its unfair and fraudulent to all of us.

I never plan on using the card, not after receiving a bill and then seeing the interest rate they are charging me,on a card I never used, and the other people that have sent in their complaints your right you can't get blood out of a turnip. Nor can you get a decent credit card these days.

Wow! Their scheme is to take your payment over the net . . . but Whoops! . . . the payment does not post. "Gee, we're so sorry. Ninety-nine percent of the time they post correctly." This is a scam! They don't post on purpose so they can charge you a late fee. THEN they call you and tell you that your account is delinquent and ask for an immediate payment. You are incredulous that your account is delinquent so you give them the money. You're ripped off . . . as I have been.

I agree. I got the card to help to build my credit I was given a 250 limit but they had already charge 180 in fees leaving a balance of $70. I spent $50 and was hit with more fees that pushed me over the balance. Then I got charge over-balance fees. When I tried to fight it I got eventually got more fee ie late fees. I think companies like this should not be allowed to do business.

I recently got the Credit One Card and had made two purchases. If I had read the comment before about Bank One, I would never have an account with them. The service is indeed poor. I never received my statement in the mail so they charged me a late fee. When I complain to the manager, they said there's nothing they can do. I received my statement two weeks after they have charged me for the late fee. Bank One s*ck.

Credit One Bank lost payment and overcharge

So i just recently got my FIRST credit card. It was one of those cards where they charge a whole bunch of additional charges, that you have to pay back, but never used. I was fine with that, knowing that i have to build my credit some how. Ive had it for 4 months now, all of which i had paid my payment on time, and $20 more than the minimum payment. This was my 4th month of which i have payed my payment. It was due on the 22nd, i sent it in on the 15th. They then called me daily telling me that they hadnt recieved my payment or that they lost it. Maybe because of the holidays, idk. This was THE ONLY month i had payed the minimum, instead of the usual $40 or $45 i send. Then then would not stop asking me to send in payments through mine OR a family or friends credit or debit card. On my last bill statment, they said i only had about $100 to pay back. When my mom talked to them and said she wanted to just pay it off so theyd stop ###ing with me, they then said my balance was $245. my credit line was not even $200 from the start. None of the representaticves speak clear english. They have given my mom fake names, been rude, harrasing me, and none of them have the same straight story. These people are scammers, that try to take every last cent from you they can get up. If anyone knows what to do, or has any suggestions, please contact me, if you can. Were just going to end up having to take them to court. DO NOT GET A CREDIT CARD from these people!

I agree. Wish I would of searched out the name 'credit one bank' online cause harassing calls, for a zero dollar bill. I filed a complaint with the FTC and Attorney general and perhaps I'll file with others. Can't wait for the NEW consumer protection agency. In fact I'm soooo annoyed by this company and I have a bit of free time I'm just going to actively file reports everywhere I can. I will make waves!

This bank started harassing me when I was late for a $20 payment...they have since been making harassing phone calls at ALL HOURS...starting at about 4 am and going until midnight. They will not rest and are going to extreme measures to collect a very small amount of money. I have since asked to close my account, but was assured I would still be collecting interest and late fees until my acct was paid in full. This bank is guilty of predatory lending and harassment. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK.

I got sick of paying the $6 fee to pay via EFT so decided to send a check. My bank's on-line bill pay showed it often takes 2 weeks for CreditOne to apply payments so I sent my payment due on the 5th of May on the 15th of April. The payment was received on the 20th and applied to my account. On the 5th CreditOne hit my account with a late fee of $29 because apparently I paid too early. So either I pay the $6 to ensure the payment is applied in time or risk my check being received too early or too late. I've sent a request in writing for the account to be closed. I refuse to do future business with this company.

Credit One Bank a pack of thieves

It is not worth my time to go into what a complete ripoff this company is. Furthermore I can't believe that all the scams they pull to soak consumers are legal. I got a COB credit card in an effort to rebuild my credit. It was most certainly not worth it as I am still paying for the card even though I canceled it over a year ago. They've probably written into the "Agreement" that they can charge me $12.95 a month (of course!) for registering a complaint on this website.

I'm being ripped off by them as we speak. My account was sitting at +$47.00, i sent my minimum payment of $20 in a week before it was due, it was due on Dec 21st. Well they still claim to have not received it and today is the 28th, they have been known to sit on payments and wait to process them in order to charge us late fees.

Now yesterday i called them and complained because i checked my account balance and it was -$17.00, they admitted it was there mistake and as a "courtesy" they would fix the balance and waive this late fee they charged me.Even with the $32.00 late fee, there's no way i should be in the hole that much.

So today i checked my account balance and nothing has been fixed, actually im now sitting at -$27.00, where did the extra $10.00 come from? their customer service is rude and aggressive and cant comprehend what you are trying to tell them. They keep avoiding the questions at hand.

If my account isn't fixed by tomorrow i will be contacting the Attorney General in my state as well as in Credit Ones. Also i will be filing a complaint with the FTC and F.B.I. these people have been investigated before and sued.

They use to be known as the First National Bank Of Marin, but they were sued and forced to pay back millions of dollars to their customers that they wrongfully took from them or charged them, guess they thought by changing their name they would be in the clear. Not anymore.

I just off the phone with these ignorant low lives. I canceled my card after trying to work out a peyment agreement. They refused and now are charging me three extra dollars a month for canceling my account. I was willing work out a payment ageement. But, they said they do not do this. MY interest rate is 23.9 percent. monthly service fee is $5.95 and it's $7.95 to make a payment online. If your payment is one minute after the 24 hour before the due date deadline. It is a $29.0 dollars fee. These people are THIEVING BLOOD SUCK ING VERMIN. Do yourself a favor and avoid these people.

Credit One Bank late charges and unable to cancel card

I had this credit card for over a year. I want to cancel the card but
unable to locate a number other than an automated service which directs you to another number. Also, every time I make a payment they charge me a over the credit fee. I like to stay below my credit limit each, but this fee is consistent. I can never reach a person to discuss this concern. I don't use this card anymore due to the fraudulent transaction and still get charged a late fee. This company should be investigated since a customer service representative is never available. I would like to cancel this card but don't know how. Please help!

This card is a racket. On top of the listed complaints of unnecessary late charges and a complete inability to cancel the card (the number provided on the card and on the website - when it'd not "being updated for better customer service" - ha! - do just loop you through a menu), someone in the organization started withdrawing money from my personal checking account. Luckily Bank of America is on top of these things and despite their attempt to steal $2, 000 over a weekend, I didn't lose any money.

Stay FAR away from this card!

I agree with you 100 percent. Every time that I make a payment they take out so many fees that Im over limit. It don't matter how many times I pay a month Im still charged an Annual Fee of $6.95, a finance charge of $17.00 and $37.00 Late charges and more. After all said and done It usually come's to what I paid and 47 Cents over limit. I paid $60.00 last time and I owe late charges again because the total of all fees came to, what do you know $60.47. Great Company And your right no one to talk too, and no one to e-mail.

The American people bailed them out when they were going down the tubes. Now, they found a way to charge us to pay for the payback. Not cool at all! How stupid do you think the consumers are and how long do you think they will let you get away with this. We should all file BANKRUPTCY and leave them stuck with the unpaid debts! This would put them back at square one, over a barrel like they think they have us. The wisdom of a 75 year old.

Every call has no record of the previous call when I tell them I did not use the card. They have sent a half a dozen collection companies after me and It is still going on 3 years late starting at $250.00 now its up to $650.00 Unbelievable isn't it.

Credit One Bank poor service and accessibility

I have been trying to pay my credit card bill online and I can't find the correct site. You have got to have a site to do this from because I have paid this way before. I am extremely unsatisfied with your bank and will never use it again. I will also discourage all I come in contact with to also avoid using your services. I understand banks are having trouble at this time but I would also think that this would be a perfect time to try to keep existing customers. Poor accessibility and even worse customer service is probably adding to the BAD feeling people have already. Why don't you try to make it easier to pay online and actually have an option to talk to a real person who could steer us to the correct avenue without having to tie up your phone lines and wasting our time just to ask a quick question like " how can I pay my bill on line?". Please understand that you are the business and we are the customers who pay your bloated salaries. You should take care not to lose us or pretty soon you will be out of a job.

Credit One Bank erroneous billing

I issued a payment from my checking account. Credit one charged me check fees and over the limit. I had ample money in my account and was able to get assitance over the phone. I mailed a letter to the general correspondence with a copy of my checking account that showed funds were in my bank and also a letter from my bank that stated they did not return any electronic payment as insuffience funds. Nothing happened. Let me tellyou this is not the first time something like this happened. As soon as I 'm able I am going to pay this card off. I have been billed for services I did not purchase and when I tried to dispute it I was talked to rudely and told to contact the merchant. I think it is a ploy to keep you in debt to them. In all I have paid over a five hundred in fees that were not valid and my limit was $250.00. It appears everytime I get my account balance 50% - there's something else to incurr new fees. I AM STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THEM BUT I BELEIVE IT IS VERY UNLIKELY ANYTHING WILL CHANGE. A WORD TO THE WISE DO NOT ACCEPT AN OFFER FROM THEM.

So, I have had this card for about a year. I haven't had any issues making payments through their app I downloaded or through my banks on line bill pay.
Payments and charges do take a little longer to show on this card.
There is a $1+ fee each month and a $8.25 fee which appears it may be yearly (?) on my bill this month.
If you need to make payments faster than mailing them, use the app or on line bill pay through your bank and it won't generate fees.
I only got the card to rebuild credit also and have obtained other lines as well. Eventually, I will close this account. I am glad everyone posted their experiences so that I will be prepared for their antics.
Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. I am so sorry for you troubles.

I just went through a bizarre experience with this company which caused me to go to this site and now I am very concerned. My intention is to pay off this card as soon as possible so this month I paid my regular payment and then two days later attempted to pay off half the balance. I was not allowed to make the online payment. I was told I had to go through a 5-10 day process to make a second payment. The process includes allowing them to make two small deposits (less than a $1.00) and then one withdrawal of the amount. Once that process was completed I would need to sign on to my account with them and confirm the withdrawal amount; then make the second payment. I have never heard of such a thing. I am worried I am being scammed but not sure how. After reading these posts I plan to forget about the half balance payment and just go for the complete balance payment. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you for your reviews everyone. after seeing no cancellation option online I decided to do some research and found this page, and immediately got pissed off. called them up using that 877 number and explained that i'm planning to pay my remaining balance off within the next month and that after that I wish to cancel. I told them I went online and found countless reviews about the cancellation process being frustrating and that I will not put up with that [censored] when i'm ready to cancel, and wanted to verify what the process actually was. got transferred to a specialist who asked me why I wanted to cancel. "I have other cards with better rates but also honestly I am completely turned off by the lack of cancellation options and the reviews I read. I know it is your job to try to keep this account open, and i'm sorry, but please do not bother. I don't care what you offer me. my mind is made up.". homeboy starts to try to talk me into staying anyway and I cut him off "see this is exactly the kind of experience I read about int he reviews and i'm not going to deal with it. I will be closing this account and I want you to assure me that i'll be able to do so." he then tells me that it won't be a problem and offers to refund one of the late fees from a few months back, plus the annual fee. I say "thank you that's very generous of you but if that will at all interfere with me cancelling my account then no thanks." assures me it won't interfere and that when it's time to cancel, they will respect my decision. so far the refund hasn't shown up but maybe it takes some time to process. I will be back to follow up once i've actually successfully cancelled this account. for anyone trying to cancel their account, I recommend just calling them out on all this from the get-go, letting them know you're aware of others' experiences trying to cancel and that you will not put up with it. hope this helps. to be continued.

Had this card for almost 10 years to the day. Wasn’t being used had to close it. I was tired of paying $8 and change every month. Called early in the morning and they kept trying to find reasons to keep me. I had to stop them and say can you just stop all of that and close my account please and thank you. Tried to say I wouldn’t have to pay the monthly fee for 2 months so I said what happens after that I would still have to pay and as you can see the card hasn’t been used for 2 years lol no response ! Now they claim a letter will be in the mail.

Okay, so after 5 years with this bank I decided to close the account because I wasn't using it anymore. I have to say, even though their interest is outrageous and the fees are insane, this credit card served the purpose. now I have other credit cards that I actually use.

So, I went into their website to close the account and immediately freaked out because they don't have a phone number or an option in their website to close the account. someone in this same forum gave some sketchy instructions on how to get a hold of a human and it actually worked. [protected] number and entered 1 for english, my last four digits of social security number and after the recording gave me the menu options, I pressed 0, then # then 0 again and the star.)

The easiest way to get rid of a credit card without getting any comment back is saying that you are moving out of the united states and you need to close all your credit cards. the lady was really nice, bad english but managed to "close" it. saying that since my balance was $0 I was not going to get charged for any fees. then she said: "the account has been closed". it was so weird because I could still access the account online... I will be keeping an eye on it, going on it like a horoscope!

I hope the above helps... good luck with this [censor] bank everyone! :)

I just closed two accounts with them. They did help me get my credit rolling and am happy about that. Have better rewards cards now and did not need them. Sure they tried to talk me into staying but the goal was to cancel. I kept telling them "No I want to cancel". They told me my account is officially canceled on each one. I checked online immediately afterwards and my available credit was $0.00. I am happy I signed up but happy I am away from them to not pay the annual fee spread over each month.

Worse card ever! even if your desperate do not apply!

Bad fees, never able to talk to anyone.

I maybe used 150 of it and had over 35 dollars in fees monthly, plus their fees to have the lame card.

Paying it off and closing it. worst card ever!

Credit One Bank won't verify payment

I was out of town last month and did not have my bills with me. SO in order to pay all my bills on time I went ahead and set up online accounts and paid online. I paid my minimum due for Credit One Bank and received a conf. #. Apparently it never went through which I realized this month on my statement. I checked my free credit report and they had already reported it as delinquent. When I called to dispute and tell them I had a conf. number, they told me it's my responsibility to make sure my payment goes through and the reason it didn't was because I typed in the wrong security code. Shouldn't it have alerted me that it was invalid instead of thanking me for my payment and giving a confirmation code. If I sit down to pay all my bills and have conf. codes, I'm not going to sit down every day until the next month to make sure it has gone through. I see I am not the first person this has happened to. If their online system is inefficient, they shouldn't have one b/c it is screwing people over.

Credit One Bank bad credit card company

Whatever you do, do not open an account with them!
First of all they charge you for using their card, and its not one time fee thing, it’s about $ 5.00 every month. Then they charge you for paying your bill on line $7.00 dollars to be exact. First of all its 2008 EVERYONE pays their bills on line, apparently not this one though! Then they charge you about $5.00 for cash in advance, which I don’t ever use.
After I started paying close attention to my charges I realized I pay about $17.00 dollars a month for no apparent reason, $17.00 x 12 months is about $204.00 dollars a year. And just last week, they pulled this one on me: they charged me $37.00 because “my bank said that I have insufficient funds to approve my payment which was $20.00” I was stunned because I had more than enough funds to cover that payment. So I contacted Credit One again, and they told me just fax your bank statement and we’ll take care of it, our apologies! Two days ago I received a letter from their Customer Service stating that they are not going to take that charge off. At that point I said that I had enough with them. I’m going to report this credit card company to Better Business Bureau and Comptroller of the Currency.

People need to listen tothis person! I had several charge accounts involved with my 2003 bankruptcy--guess what--they decided to change companies..they did and gave me a bad bad rating on my credit. I challenged it for years but when I had to file bankruptcy again because I had been laid off at work their account was still showing up as open! Criminals at their best!

Credit One Bank fees and interest

I called inquiring my card fees and my interest rate. I was basically harrassed into making another payment after they told me that they would take off a fee. My payment went thru on the date that i had scheduled my balance still doesnt reflect any kind of credit. When i asked about my interest rate and if i could get it lowered i was told that they dont do that, then i got a letter explaining that theydont do that. I am trying to build my credit and i believe this account is making it worse.

I PAID ON MY ACCOUNT AND STILL HAD A BALANCE OF .03 CENTS, I TOLD THEM TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT TAKES 21 DAYS TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $6.50 FOR CLOSING IT AND THAT I WOULD ACCRUE DAILY FINANCE CHARGES ON THE BALANCE UTIL MY NEXT STATEMENT CAME OUT ON 05/09/2010. I TOLD THEM THAT I JUST BAID THE BALANCE BUT PAID IT .03 CENTS SHORT. THEIR RESPONSE IT DOESN'T MATTER. THE CREDIT CARD LAW JUST RECENTLY PASSED WAS TO HELP US CONSUMERS AVOID SHAMS LIKE THIS BUT IT SEEMS THET THEY HAVE FOUND VERY CREATIVE WAYS TO AVOID ADHERING TO THE LAW.

Credit One Bank why can't I speak to a real person?

I have been trying to contact the credit one bank since last Monday concerning my credit card but every number i have called seems to transfer me to an automated attendant instead of a real person who can answer my questions. If i could just get in contact to a rep. I would be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying to activate my new credit card, but no matter what number I use they won't recognize the numbers I enter in of my cards. And they hang up one me. I am beginning to wonder if they even have people working for them, that can actually answer the phone, instead of just a robot .

Credit One Bank opened account w/o my authorization

They opened up an account/credit card for me without my authorization/permission! I never would have accepted their offer - $75.00 just to to get their visa card? I never even received a card, and I don't want it! I will be writing to the attorney general's office.

I would like to encourage everyone out there to report Credit One to the FBI. With the whole financial industry going up in smoke for the reasons that people who have been dealing with Credit One already knew about, the FBI is investigating companies right now. Here is a link:

https://tips.fbi.gov/

I have tried everything to get these people to work with me and they refuse. I reported them to the BBB, the Federal Government, and the Attorney General in their state. None of this helped. They have been screwing me over for three years. Please report them to the FBI.

Credit One Bank posting of payment - overcharge

We paid this credit card online a few days before the actual due date. They posted it after the due date and are charging us the fees for a late payment. I believe this is highly illegal and basically fraud. When my son contacted them, the person stated to pay the balance in full and then they would refund some of the fees but not before. Sorry guys - I think its time to discuss this with my attorney. Very nice scam - great card for college kids - R U KIDDING ME!

This credit card company is the most deceitful I have ever seen! When I called to close my account, the Customer Service Rep said there would be no account closure fees while I was paying off the balance. I asked him 3 different times, and the answer was always a resounding "no." Got my statement and to my surprise I noticed there was a "closed account...

it might be in collections because what happens is that there is a annual fee which is charged on the account on the monthly basis for $8.25.. so the amount might get up due to continous annual fee and late fee on account ... you can call on [protected] and ask them... take time from you schedule and try to let them explain things if the amount u have used is zero then ask to close account and ask for fee waiver eligibility
