Under no circumstances should you consider using this company. I was going through financial hardships and was trying to consolidate debt, and turned to www.mycreditcounseling.org for help. The initial service rep who set up my account led me to believe that they would pay off my credit card debt in a lump sum, and then I would be put on a payment plan. This was not the case. The company sent me a packet in the mail, since they're website was "under construction", and I signed on the dotted line. The packet listed only a cancellation fee, not a monthly fee, although I was charged $50 a month for their "services", which included not returning my phone calls or paying any of my debt collectors. They also advised me to stop paying monthly payments to force collectors to settle, effectively ruining my credit. Incidentally, you can do the "service" they provide yourself and avoid all the fees. I paid them almost $2, 000; I had to put my account on hold for awhile when I lost my job, and after terminating my account, they returned me a measly $150, deducting the rest for all their previously undisclosed monthly fees. Any time I tried to contact them, from the very start of my account setup, every service rep was EXTREMELY rude to me. In addition, when I tried to complain about my experiences after I terminated my account, they told me "there is nothing you can do". If I can save a single person from becoming their client, it will be worth it for me.

hmmm you obviously didn't research it much, the credit counselling do not give loans, all they do is negotiate with the creditors to lower or eliminate your interest rates, and make payment amount arrangements They then send on your behalf the money they take out of your account. You have to realize most are non profit but they still need to take money monthly to cover administrative costs. When you are in a credit program it takes up to 3 months until it is all straightened out, all you had to do is tell them to phone them and give the number Sounds like you might have hooked up with the wrong counselling service because most are not the way you described, hope you can get it figured out. From what i heard shield credit is not a bad one to go through, try them maybe they can help
