They called saying that I owed a debt but could not say who the debt was to or how much. They refused to provide written proof of the alleged debt and the lady I spoke with, Christine, refused to provide her last name.

I owe no delinquent debts whatsoever. These people are clearly attempting fraud.

This number has called my friend and the associate was very rude, and refused to provide information of what the company they were calling on behalf of was. The left a message to call back. I called two different numbers from this company and both associates were incredibly rude, and refused to tell me what company they are affiliated with. I have done a lot of research on this because I am sick of scam calls and companies trying to get people's information and collect money for something that is CLEARLY fake. This needs to stop.

I have been paying on a debt through this agency for mor than four years. I called to ask them to send me an itemized letter on the account I was paying on and the man refused saying that their company had already sent me such letter at the beginning. I don't remember receiving any such letter, I only remember receiving monthly reminder notices, and those stopped after a few months of paying on the account. I asked him why and he said that CRA isn't going to pay money on top of money to keep sending me itemized letters on the account. I told him that I have been paying faithfully on this account. He said an account I'm responsible for. He said that they would have to go about side of the company to draft any such letter. How is this legal? I get itemized bills every month for my cable and cell phone, etc. Why can't CRA send me one? This man also continued to talk over me as I was trying to ask him questions about my account. When he answered the phone he didn't answer with CRA. I had to ask if I was speaking with CRA. I'm not trying to get out of my responsibility, I just wanted an itemized bill. Is there anything I can do to get them to comply?

Today my mother received a call from some Daniel Wade at CRA. She is not great with English so I am the one that handles most of her financial matters. They left her a voicemail at her house saying: "This voicemail is for ___, if this is not ___ hang up! I am calling on a case I just received with your name on it that you might not know of. Please give me a call back today so we can discuss this urgent matter. Call back at [protected]" After hearing the voicemail, I called back. When I called I said I am calling on behalf of ___. He asked me what was the number on file. After giving my mothers number, he then proceeded to tell me of some debt that she had at an OBGYN from 3 years ago. Now because I solve all of my mothers financial matters, I know what she owes and where and am helping her pay them off. He said she owed $385.88, and that she needs to pay it in full today, or do half today and "secure" the other half by dating the check a week from today. I said I would call him back because I had to call my mother and ask if she had the money. (I did this to double check if she indeed had an old account that I might not have known about) After talking to her, there was no old account so I called him back.
I asked him where the address of the location was, and he fumbled for the address and gave me TWO different addresses. NONE of which were the address of her previous OBGYN which was in fact in the town he mentioned. It seemed to me like he was googling an address in that town on the spot to answer my question. I asked for the doctors name, and he said he could not disclose that information. Then I told him that we are actually very close to the OBGYN because he is a family doctor, and that they have always dealt with her debts personally with us. He said "well, they are just going to refer you back to us, so you are wasting your time. you have ignored this debt for 3 years. we are going to put this on file and you will get debt collected now." I told him that he can do what he pleased and that we will be contacting the office to make sure that she in fact has an outstanding debt with the office, and if she does she will pay the doctor directly. He hung up.
DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION! ASK THEM QUESTIONS AND HEAR THEM FUMBLE. 100% SCAM!

CRA has contacted me last year concerning a debt with a company. Aarons I remember having an account with Aarons, But paid. I have been dealing with Parker/Gloctan.Wade they are very unprofessional and very mean and rude. They run my credit card on the dates that I have not approved and then calls me and harass me about the money not being there. I told them that I need to change my payment dates. And they said not and that they will come after me and that they was going to put in there system that there is a refusal to pay and they will seek criminal charges, For failure refusing to pay a debt. I called back and said I never refused to pay I need my payment dates changed. They said no and hung up on me, I called back and they said next time you call we are going to file harassment charges on you. They have never sent me any paper work on any debt that I owe. I have files a complaint with the BBB when I asked for a coporate manager or contact info they refused.

It looks like CRA posted a comment above on this page, it says "To contact CRA, please call [protected] or visit our website, http://www.consumerrecovery.com. If you've had a bad experience with a representative, we want to know. You can call us, or submit a Contact A Manager form on the website: http://www.consumerrecovery.com/contact-a-manager/"

I called the number but I got the same line as before, but this guy claimed to be the "coordinator." He said he would look into my allegation that the man I spoke with earlier did not say that this was an attempt to collect a debt, but instead portrayed himself as someone with the IRS. But then the coordinator quickly shifted back to me and tried to get me to pay my debt from 10 years ago. At the end, when I said I just don't have any money, he said he would now pursue other things like forwarding me to the IRS and that it is a felony in CA to write a bad check. I used Check into Cash in 2001 for $300 but did not pay it back. Now CRA said it's increased to over $600. The man said I could pay $325 total and that he give me a break. Also, he would let me make it in payments. But I told him I don't feel comfortable giving him my bank information over the phone. He said that's the only way he will do it, if it's secured. I eventually hung up. He was suave and short with me, but not as hostile and threatening as the other guy from before. I doubt complaining to CRA about CRA will do any good. I should complain to the State of Virginia. Yes, people should pay their debts. But the creditors should not use blackmail and portray themselves as being with the IRS.

I just received a call from CRA. The man did NOT say that this was an attempt to collect a debt, instead he portrayed himself as someone with the IRS, although he did not say it word for word, the impression he gave was that he is with the government. He said "I see here that on Thursday you were referred to us" regarding a 1099-C. He said "from time to time we get these and we wanted to call you" since the IRS would be taking action against me. He looked in the system and said I had a "Check into Cash" balance due of over $600 and that the IRS would be taking action. He said the only way action could be avoided from this TEN year old matter, was if I gave him money. The man said "C'mon, you're an intelligent guy right? I don't have time for these games, " when I asked him questions. The man was threatening, aggressive and I felt harrassed and even violated. He already had my Social Security number and address information. He finally said he would mark the report as "REFUSE" and send it off to the IRS to tell them I had unreported income from 2001. The amount I borrowed back then was $300 but now with interest it's over $600 and this now qualifies for the 1099-C apparently. The man was angry. I saw this website and called CRA back and asked a woman if they are at 2697 International Parkway, Virginia, and she said in a curious tone, "Yaa." For a minute I felt like calling the police in Virginia. That man tricked me, misled me, and then became vicious when I began to catch on that he was not with the IRS, but some creditor. He used black mail to try to get money from 10 years ago: Pay me the money or else I'll turn you in to the IRS.

It's amazing to look over these complaints and see how many people complain about being asked to pay their bills. The reason why our economy is in such bad shape is because of irresponsible debtors. This isn't limited to people, it goes much higher, businesses, cities, states and even national governments. It's hard for me to understand why someone thinks they're being mistreated when THEY are the ones who have taken money and not repaid it. As far as I'm concerned that is the same as stealing it. But then again this is just my opinion. I pay my bills, pay my taxes and don't ask for free handouts. Some would say I'm a respectable AMERICAN, somewhat of a dying breed nowadays.

I also just received a call from CRA. They would not give me any information on what the debt was from except that it was from 2003. He then started reading off my Capital One credit card number and asked if I wanted to use that card to pay off the debt. I said absolutely not, but HOW did he get my credit card number? I asked for his address so I could verify his companies legitimacy and he refused. I asked for information in the mail so I could look into the debt before paying it and he said I had to immediately give him my bank routing number. I refused. He then yelled at me and called me a thief for not paying a debt and hung up the phone on me. Will a letter make the calls stop?

I received a phone call from this company, CRA (Consumer Recovery Associates) and they are using the same scare tactics to scam consumers to pay debts that in most cases do not exist. In my case they claim that I owe a debt to Aarons furniture from March of 2003. She threatned that if i did not pay this debt today that they were going to report it to the IRS as unpaid debt/income gain. She asked me to verify my address, social security number and date of birth. I refused. She then said that she would report me to law enforcement for fraud. I told her do what what you have to do, this is not my debt. I explained to the representative, Christine that I don't owe that money. She did not let me speak. I then asked for her last name and the business address. She refused to give it to me. I then asked for a phone number and she refused to give that information. I then asked her to provide me a business license, she refused. I then asked her to provide me a court order for wage garnishment, and she said that they did not need a court order. I gave her my fax number to provide me details of the debt of the creditor, Aarons furniture and fax all the documentation that they had on this account including account numbers, court orders, petitions etc. She said no. I then told her that I was going to investigate her company for illegal debt collection practices turn them over to the authorities including the State of Virginia Attorney General as well as our Attorney General in New Mexico. She hung up the phone. She called me from this phone number- [protected]. When I called this number back, it was disconnected. I then researched online for CRA, and found these phone numbers: [protected] and [protected] and these numbers are also disconnected. I then contacted the Virginia Secretary of State Corportations Search Intity at [protected] and explained to the clerk the details of this issue and he strongly recommended to contact SOS (Secretary of State) of Virginia Consumen affairs at [protected]. I have also contacted the city of Virginia Beach (Business Registration office) thier number is [protected]. The city of Virginia Beach has also advised to contact their consumer protection ageny at [protected]. CRA is a ligitimate registered business in the state of Virginia. And I have learned that they are currently under investigation for fraud and unfair and illegal collection practices. CRA's corporate id number with the State of Virginia is S130749. They are an active LLC orgainized in Virginia. They have a listed registered agent- James G Fox III. The address of the registered agent is: 2697 International Parkway Virginia Beach, VA. 23452 There if only one single member under this entity and it is unlisted. I did more research online and this is all the phone numbers they have listed including thier business address: Contact Consumer Recovery Associates:

Same here! Got a call from some agency called CRA. Everytime they call there is a different phone number. They said something about a credit card that I didn't pay off. I have not had a credit card other than the one I have now for almost 10 years. Where are these people coming from. Do they really think someone is going to pay a debt from over 10 years ago!

I have been receiving these calls every day this week. Today, I attempted to speak to someone to get more information. They refused to give any details. Earlier this same week, the stated they were calling for money that I was suppose to receive and probably didn't know about it. My wife was surprised because our number is private and not listed anywhere and we don't even use our home phone for anything. Another time, they called and left a message that I needed to contact them as soon as possible because of an emergency. My family thought there was a death in the family. Today, I told them to stop calling this number. I don't think it will be the end of them but plan to get more details if the person on the other end is willing to provide it. This is unbelievable that Americans are being harrassed this way with so many people out of work.

I have found that a "Cease & Desist Letter" send by certified return reciept mail works, to get debt collectors off your back, of course you have to be diligent and persistant & fight back. Collection companies, in general, are bottom feeding-dirt bag debt collection company for several companies. In your letter demand that they stop calling you, and ask for a written verification or validation that you owe any monies. Also, in your letter tell them the following on you can copy this verbatum here, since it has always worked for me; "This account is incorrect and fraudulent". I refuse to make any payment on any account without legal validation as required by the Fair Debt Collections Act. Therefore, your client (whoever it is) and your offices have violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act in several instances. In each instance there can be a $1, 000.00 fine for violating my credit rights in the pursuit in collecting a non-validated debt. For this reason, I hereby instruct you to cease collection of this debt, for the above referenced account (Add any account number that may have been received in a debt collection letter or the dates and time of the calls). Further, it is my personal policy not to deal with collection agencies and I will only deal with the original creditor of this account (If any).
You are hereby instructed to cease collection efforts immediately or face further legal sanctions under applicable Federal and State law. I plan to sue you and your company for three violations, if you firm continues this unlawful collections activity. I look forward to your acknowledgement of that you have received this letter. GIVE THIS LETTER THE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION IT DESERVES. Cordially, Then add your full name, or your name that appears on a debt any collection letter; Make sure & CC: The US. Fair Trade Commission
Send the letter to Consumer Recovery Associates., as above; And once again, Be sure to send your cease and desist letter certified-return reciept mail. The letter should put a stop to their calls immediately. You may just have to send at least one other letter, but if they continue, send another, and in the next one, get even nastier! This has always worked for me. Good Luck..PSully
