I would like to cancel my subscription to Classmates.com and can't find out how. It is not very good when you call the number you are given and can't talk to a person.

I signed up for a promotional membership and was never notified that it was up for renewal. I found out when a $39 charge showed up on my credit card statement. I called their number, [protected]. The recording said it "was outside normal business hours" and directed me to their website. Conveniently they didn't tell me when normal business hours are. I changed information on my accou tbut now want the $39 charge credited back to my credit card!

Of course you are going through the same issue. You are the one who posted the initial complaint.

I am currently going through the same issue, classmates.com charging me for something I never signed up for my credit card says it will take 10 days to clear this up but I am angry that they were able to get my information in the first place.

I am also PO'd over this. I have been trying to get off this w/site to no avail. I'm not spending any more of my dollars on this fiasco. No contact number to Classmates, whatever they are called now, no nothing. Apparently they are in hot water, what a waste of my time and money. Geez, live and learn.

Do not give up so easily.

Continue to tell them you want a refund AND you are unsatisfied with their service (in an email to their customer service office). Also remove all of your personal data from their site and notify them since you no longer have any personal data on their site, you are in fact no longer being provided a service by their company. Since they are no longer providing you any service they are in fact committing fraud since they have taken your money without a return of service. Also state in your email that your email is serving as an official notification they you wish a refund and that you no longer want to utilize their service/you are unsatisfied with their service

Contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. Once you access the main Better Business Site and identify the company you wish to complain against (i.e. Classmates.com or Memory Lane), they will forward you to the office handling that region of the U.S (Classmates/Memory Lane has a mailing address is the northwest United States)

Be persistent and they will (hopefully) ultimately send you a nice email like I recently received (below) Be advised they will deduct a percentage from the amount you paid depending on how long you have been under their “new” contract. They originally charged me 59.00 but in the week it took before they finally acquiesced and closed my account; they determined this week’s worth of service was .48 cents.

Thank you for your reply.
I understand your concerns. I have reviewed your request and will make an exception to our policy and process a refund for the time remaining on your membership term, in the amount of $58.52.

We've processed your credit today. Please note that the credit may take up to 30 days to appear depending on your financial institution.

You may continue to use your free membership with Memory Lane™. As a free member, you're still listed on Memory Lane and will continue to receive email notifications about your account activity.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please reply directly to this email and let us know.
Sincerely,

E

I experienced a hard-ball response form Classmates.com claiming that I had already agreed to a automatic renewal a year ago when i signed up. I filed a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General and had my credit card charge to them suspended. Since then, I learned that they had already agreed to a settlement of a class action law suit in New York state.

They are still claiming that they will not return the annual auto-renewal charge, but will cancel me a year from now.

I filed a FTC complaint (took about 3-4 mins on line) while I waited on hell hold with them. I suggest you do too. Also while you wait on hell hold go to your State dept of commerce and consumer affairs and file a complaint, also BBB.

Also send a bill to United Online Inc for whatever your time is worth. They probably wont pay but they will spend their time which is money dealing with it. And if they actually pay it - hahahahahaha - so much the better.

Watch out people who had problems with Classmates.com. Don't get involved with My Life. They are using the same form of tricking people. I do believe that My Life is simply Classmates with a name change. I could be wrong, but My Life is going to end up with suits against them, also, if they continue the way they are now!

It doesn't matter if you delete your credit/debit card number on file. They will still bill you anyway. When this happened to me last year I did the same as you, I deleted my card #, and guess what? I was billed again this year! This happened about six weeks ago. I am in the middle of disputing it with my bank. From all of the thousands of complaints I have read on several different web-sites including this one, it appears the only way I can finally have Classmates.com out of my life for good is to report my card as lost and have a new one issued with a different #. That appears to be the only way to get away from these crooks.

Go into your account info on Classmates.com and in the billing section, DELETE your Credit Card number. I was able to do this just now. I don't see how they can renew me next year if they don't have my number!

Same problem as reported above. There doesn't seem to be any way to cancel a membership. I was just billed $35.00 that was never authorized. I did succumb to their special offer last year when the fee was dropped significantly but I was not able to log in a month later. Without a login, you can't contact them online. I have been trying to call but get only a recorded message. Now I understand why I have been included in the class action lawsuit against them.

i to have tried to cancel my account with classmates, however, now comes the month of November and I again have been charged a fee. During the time that I cancelled in September, I have received no e-mails or any kind of correspondence from classmates. When I sighned up for Clasmates it said cancel at any time, but you make it so dificult to do so. When I cancelled it was under russellmulkey@yahoo.com formerly (russ@adamswells.com). Please cancel my membership and reemberse my credit card account that was taken out. Russell Mulkey

If you call and hold and get a live person tell them you want the $9.95 special they are running for the $39.00 Gold membership Fee-they will credit your account $39.00 but charge you $9.95-they did the same thing to me after repeated calls they offered me the discounted rate and deleted me from automatic renewal. Hope this helps.

I was also automatically renewed which I did not authorize. Classmates also told me that I had to wait until next term to cancel. When I contactd my credit card company they told me that they had an agreement with Classmate.com that they would not dispute any claims for automatic renewals so I cancelled my credit card.

Classmates.com is nothing but a rip-off. Canceled twice but they
continue to charge my credit card. The guy I last talked to was rude and refused to let me talk to his supevisor. I could tell by his
voice and remarks that the rip-off was planned. The service (or
lack there of) they provide is phony. On my H.S. list they have a guy named Frank Furter...come on. I checked the names they had against my H.S. annuals, about 30 percent fake. They are fim-flam-men that slither around on their bellys like a snake stealing from the working man. This needs to stop. It is obvious they were not taught honesty at home. Some jail time might get their attention. After putting up with this guys B.S. for about two minutes I told him "if its that important keep that money". I had to get off that phone before the slime comming out of his mouth came through the mouth piece. Went down o the bank right away and had my account number changed. They will not get me again.

39.00 showed up on my visa. called and said i wanted it off and was told it couldn't be done. we didn't check the box and would be billed every year. i said i would call visa and have them take it off, then i would call my lawyer and charge them with Fraud.
They said they would take it off and gave us a ref.# just this once.
I also was told they sell your info. Should be someone we could go to and make them stop this.
I called the number on my visa. had to wait for a while but someone did answer.

I had $39 charge to my VISA on 9/13/2010. I canceled my trial membership a year ago by telephone, and they still charged my VISA. I was under the impression that when you cancel a membership it is canceled and not up for automatic renewal. I followed their directions, made the appropriate phone call and I am still paying for something I will never use. I want my money back and I am going to hire an attorney. I was told they have a no refund policy.

STOP STOP STOP I HAVE CANCELED MY MEMBERSHIP A LONG TIME AGO.
I have recently done this again only to find out that you have taken money out of my account again.
If kfor some reason you are using my wife's name she never joined classmates.
her name is Janice Delia both our names are on this account.
If I see another charge and this recent $15.00 not put back in to our account I will start letting every one know on face book about how you run your company.
