These clowns left me a message one day claiming to be the sheriff's office. The message stated that this was 'Anthony Edwards' and that he was calling from the county sheriff's office as a courtesy to inform me that 'papers would be filed against me for fraud and theft by check', but that I could avoid these charges by calling this toll-free number.

Of course the call came from a private number, not the actual sheriff's dept. The message also stated that I would be served papers at my home or my place of employment if I didn't take care of this matter. Of course after calling the county sheriff's office, I ascertained that there was no Anthony Edwards working there (there is one on E.R. however, if you like that show!)

When I called the toll-free number left on my voice mail by this supposed county employee, I was connected to some white-trash people at Check Resolution Inc. They (all 6 of the people that I spoke with), wouldn't tell me who spoke to the county, and who they spoke to when they called the county. Of course they never contacted the county, but impersonated a law officer by leaving that voicemail for me in an attempt to harass and intimidate me into paying for a two-year old account to Check n Go.

Each and every person that I spoke with at Check Resolution sounded like they might have graduated from ###-U, but most likely, only from elementary school, as their grammar was hideous. They became irate and abusive and began stuttering and talking in circles when I asked them why the sheriff's office would be involved in a civil matter, as it wasn't a criminal matter. Duh, they of course hung up on me, all 6 of the idiots that I spoke to, because they knew they were busted. It's funny how angry they became when they discovered that I used my brain.

This lame company attempts to collect on aged debts by misrepresenting themselves and impersonating law enforcement. If you receive a message from them claiming that they are the county sheriff's dept, just verify this with the county and you will find that they have no idea what you're speaking about. Check Resolution doesn't contact any law enforcement, but they'd like you to think they do.

Simply send them a cease and desist order and move on. Do not give them any of your information, especially financial information. I certainly feel bad for these folks, I mean, it must be tough only making $6 an hour and living in a trailer park in New York.

They have attempted to do this to my husband. They left one of those bogus your going to jail messages on our machine and then proceeded to call him at work. We are not denying we owe the debt but they just wont work with us. We set up payment plan of 50$ a week for these people and have met our obligation. They still call him daily and harass him. They want full payment by next week ( which we cant do) or "charges will be filed". It's nice to know for sure that this is a bunch of crap. How do u file a cease and desist?

I got a call from National Advance Payday today. They are threatening to press criminal charges if I don't pay today. They claim my original loan was in Nov. 2008 for $500 & with legal charges I will have to pay $1250 immediately or they will prosecute & notify my job. How did yours come about?

I received a similar courtesy message from Gregory Stark, processes server with an affidavit from Check Resolution Services. I have perfect credit, FICO near 800, so these idiots are obviously calling people with the same or similar name as they are trying to collect from. I called them back at the number they'd left and asked to speak to Gregory Stark. The drone I got on the other end sounded exactly like the one that left the message as he pretended to fumble through their company directory for Mr. Stark's number. The drone said there was no one there by that name. I said thank you and hung up.

Ironically, I got a call back, to my cell, within moments from a withheld number. I laughed and let it go to VM. Then, moments later, another call from a withheld number. I answered this one.

This time it was the queen or king drone, couldn't tell. ‘It’ stated that ‘it’ had received a missed call from this number. I told ‘it’ my call was not missed. I told ‘it’ my name only and ‘it’ proceeded with the security mantra asking to confirm my last 4 of my SSN. I told ‘it’ I wouldn't, so it asked if it was ####? I told ‘it’ no, you've got the wrong guy. ‘It’ apologized and I proceeded to tear into ‘it’ for leaving such threatening messages when they didn't know, without a doubt, they had the right person. ‘It’ said that the message was from a process server. I said whatever and told ‘it’ if I get another call that I’m turning them into the state attorney general’s office. Also, that they should pay more for their information or do better research before they start calling every ‘Joe Smith’ in the book leaving these messages, hoping for a ‘hit’! When I got home, there was an identical message on my machine, so today my AG is getting a new complaint in their “in box”.

FYI...here's their BBB listing - not surprising to me at all:
