On December 4th 2007 I wrote a check at Aldo shoe store for boots. The salesclerk told me my check was declined. He tried several attempts and called to get the check approved. He was very sympathetic to me but I was embarrassed in front of a store full of customers. First I went home and called my bank to check my balance which was way above and beyond my check amount, then I called Certigy and all the girl could repeat over and over was "your check was not declined because of negative history, it just did not meet our pattern of check writing". What is that? I only wrote one check that evening besides this which was for under $100.00. This check was for $119.00. I very respectfully and calmly explained to the girl the embarrassment I went through for no good reason. She just repeated herself again. I tried repeatedly to ask her for a department that I could either talk to or write to in regards to the way they handled this and how extremely unfair this was. She repeatedly said they have no such dept. How could a Check Service Company nit have a consumer dept to handle these situations which are clearly unfair and humiliating! How can they get away with treating honest, hardworking people in such a way! I am so angry at this Company! I am also writing a letter to Aldo Shoes in regards to the check service company they use. Certigy has been getting away with this practice for a long time. The complaints are enormous on the internet about them. All the Company's that use their service must be warned about their practice and that I and I am sure many people who have had this happen now ask wherever they shop if they use Certigy and if they do use them do not shop their anymore mand let the store know why. They act like they are untouchable and can do what they want and tuff beans to you, then we need to fight back and let them know we are letting the stores and businesses know we will not tolerate being humiliated and embarrassed and will lose more business because of them. I am also going to continue posting on other complaint web sites. I do believe "The squeaky wheel gets the oil" saying.

Mad as heck at Certigy Check Authorization!

You have the company name spelled wrong. The correct spelling is CERTEGY

On 4/20/10 the very same thing that has been described repeatedly above happened to me at Walgreens when I tried to pick up my prescriptions. I needed these prescriptions badly, I had broken my back (a crushed vertebrae and both joints between the sacrum and ilia damaged) and the pain was excrutiating. I too went through all the typical steps of verifying the balance in my account on-line, calling Certegy and Walgreens Customer Service. It was when I was on-line checking the Certegy website that I found all of these sites full of complaints by people whom had experienced the very same thing. I called the Walgreens pharmacy and told the Pharmacist on duty what I had found on-line and, that my check had been rejected only because I almost never write checks and use my debit card instead. Certegy had never even checked my account before they humiliated me in front of a line of other customers by rejecting my check. Hopefully, Walgreens and others will get the message and stop using Certegy and companies like them that invent their facts.

I also had that same experience only it was at Famous Footwear when I called the number they told me that in order for them to accept my check I had to join their check club that would garentee no more declined checks...I had just got paid and my income tax back on the same day so I had plenty and isn't that what is suppose to do when you have money to cover a check make sure it don't get declined...with the thought of giving out my checking information over the phone to a company sounds crazy anyways with the increase in IDENTITY THEFT anyways...
I am also having a problem now that my mothers check got declined three times for a down payment on family photos of the family and the visiting brother whos last visit before he leaves for Iraq... If the lady would have been a brat she could have deleted the photos never to be seen again until my brother came back...Greatly she kept them until the next day when we could bring by some cash for her...when we called the company that day she said there was no reason for the check to be declined...so why are they declining...that was so embarressing...they need to be stopped... how can we do it

Twice in a span of a couple of years did I have the exact thing happen to me at 2 big chain retail stores in my home town. Standing in front of many customers was extremely humiliating!

I called my bank from their phone and the bank said they're not responsible for this at all. It was the sole actions of the check authorization company. I called that company and was repeatedly told that due to the fact that I didn't use that checking account often, I was denied! I have 3 different checking accounts. The one I used on both occasions that I was "denied" is a savings/checking account that we use for emergencies and for large purchases. Of course it doesn't get used often! STUPID IDIOTS! I must have had more money in that account than the vast majority of the customers behind me in line had in theirs. They watched as I was totally humiliated.

I told the woman with the check authorization company that they are doing their customers a big disservice because I will NEVER shop at the 2 stores again.

My newly married daughter and her husband live very frugally from paycheck to paycheck. Occasionally they OD in their account. Their checks are accepted at these 2 establishments...go figure! These authorization companies are useless in my book!

Thanks for letting me vent! A class-action lawsuit against them would certainly be in order...not for monetary gain...but to prevent these embarrassing situations from happening again.

I had an experience that was almost word for word the story I just read. How can a company decline your check and not be able to tell you why the person I spoke to said that their own employee's aren't told the check approval criteria. I will never do buisness with any store that uses them again.

I just wanted to post this that I feel the same way. I was making a purchase to Ebay games 12/18/07 and my check was declined for some apparant reason since I did have money in my account to cover this and beyond. I could of just paid by credit card but I was upset so I will go purchase the items at another store. I just wanted to know what the outcome to this is will this keep happening?
