Carney is a horrible company to work for. I have worked as a teacher and tutor for over 5 years and in the past year Carney has lied, cheated employees and students I tutor. Paying us late or bouncing checks has unfortunately become normal to us and the banks we go to refuse to cash the checks because of how many he's bounced. The worst part is that he gets paid by the districts for the work that we do and promises my students who are poor, backpacks full of school supplies and none of my families from last year or this have ever seen them. Where is the money going Carney? The kids in the after school programs don't have supplies and as teachers they ask us to go out and buy what they should be supplying when we are not being paid or reimbursed. Carney is a company that should not be in business because they say they care about the students, how can they when the students never get what they are promised.

I also got a judgement award, but having a difficult time tracking the company or Mike Carney current information because they relocated or disconnected their phone-line. If you are in the same situation, please contact me for a class action on collecting our judgement at collectcarney@gmail.com.

AN7, have you received your money owed? I had my court hearing on November 14, and they awarded me the owed, just waiting for Mike Carney to pay.

Mike Carney gave me some meth for payments. He talked about doing sex with the children.

I am here to tell ALL of you Carney is a scam. His business partner recently sued (and won) thats why he is going through $$troubles. She sued because he was stealing money from the company. In addition, I along with 15 other former employees of the company reported Carney to BBB and to LAUSD regarding their stealing way back in 2008. I am also aware that several of my former friends took them to court and won a small settlement for back pay owed. Because I work in a school district, this is what I suggest you do: 1) Report to labor board. 2) file a small claims suit 3) Tell your current clients (private and in the school district whats going on
4) file a police report so you can use as evidence of fraud.
Trust me, there are hundreds of people like you out there who have been a victim of Carney. The ones who were diligent, prevailed under the law. I certainly did. Mike is a Fraud and has been for many years. Everyone in the field knows it. Don't feel sorry for him. He has been stealing for many years and it is starting to catch up with him.

So i just read through all your complaints and i like much of you have been waiting to get paid. They owed me 5 paychecks since Nov 2011 in the last month I've received 4 of those checks but now they are going back to avoiding my emails and calls i was fed up before and now im beyond upset i honestly thought I'd get fully paid but i guess not...i was looking through the labor board website but i have no idea on how to report them if someone could please help. Also where do i go to file a claim against them i just want my money already and not have to deal with them anymore!

I am having the same experience. They do not pay. I am waiting for my second check and for the second time it is late. The first time they made me wait almost two months to get paid. Now it is over a month and a half for the second time. They lie and say the deposit is on its way and it never comes. I am submitting a claim to the department of labor today.

Totally agree that they are just doing bad business practice. None of this is due to temporary financial economic problems. I have researched the company pretty extensively and the audits and complaints from tutors go all the way back to 2005, way before the current economic financial crises even occurred. Not only that, they continue to hire new employees in order to continue their cycle of fraud. A company that is truly trying to get back on their feet will stop hiring, get on a tight budget, trim all the fat, start paying what they owe, and first and foremost get a good word out about their business ethics in order to keep their company in good light for future business. They're not even trying. The last public posts in any of their public sites are from mid 2011. Let's face it they're just riding this money train as far as they can before it all comes crashing down around them.

Theres a difference between hard times and poor financial management. Since the beginning of this school year they have had financial problems, so they had us go to provider fairs and start tutoring knowing that they didn't have the financial backing. I took them months to even notify everyone through an email that they're having financial problems and will pay us as soon as possible. That email alone was over due since I was doing provider fairs way back in September/October. Further research will show that they have always had poor business practice.

There is a link of them being audited in 2011
and they were actually audited another time before that in 2007.
You can believe its financial troubles because of the economy, but I believe its because of just poor business practice and organization.

yes but in the mean time they need to officially lay off employees, I to owned a business, too I had to tell clients the honest truth we have to close doors, due to not being approved by ca state beureau, it was trucking school. We all know gas prices are high, so as of now I had no other choice but to stay on stand still, and told them I can't afford to fork out 300-500 dollars in gas going to locations and waiting around three months, without pay, and a baby on top of the icing. I had received partial pay by telling them this but they still owe me a certain amount, I frankley told them please call me when fiancial issues are resolved.

I currently work for Carney Educational Services and, having owned my own business years ago, I completely understand what they are going through. During certain economic times companies can undergo many financial difficulties and for many different reasons. The reason that I am staying with Carney is because I believe that they are trying to rise to the status they have been in a year ago. They at least have made attempts to call me to let me know their current financial situation. It’s easy for a business to close their doors, but for a company who contacts me by phone is not a company who is out to screw me. They are out to get things moving again and I believe that they will succeed.

I thought the main office was in palmdale? All the numbers i call have the area code for palmdale. I'm definitely going to file for small court claims because the department of labor hasn't contacted me yet and its been over 2 weeks.

small claims court pertains to main area juristiction meaning area where you live, however money comes from Los Angeles, so I probaley have to submit judgement at an los angeles court house, kind of tricky being that main office is in santa rosa, which only sits our supervisors volunteering their hours.

There's nothing much we can do... report to the department of labor? and thats it! We can't afford lawyers, and the only thing the department of labor will do is make them pay for the amount owed to us with little penalty. I suppose we could report to the BBB...

Take a closer look at the W-2 you receive from Carney...We know we haven't been paid...However, Carney has the amount of income withheld to appear as if we have been paid...Talk about fraud ! Why haven't these people been arrested and prosecuted? Why hasn't this become a matter for every newspaper and television station to report ?

yes, I've talked to Steve Carney and he told me the same thing. I have save all the paperwork that the parents sign along with the Time Sheet. I have always scan when I get the parents to sign and it comes to sending in the paperwork to the company and always save the the paperwork for my records. I have email called Mike Carney and he never did got back to me and I found out that he wasn't in the office yesterday. I know that this should not be happening. right now I work for another SES tutoring company and they always pay all of their tutors on time. and when we have a questions we can know that they will answer our calls or emails. Try applying for AAA Academics or #1Tutors, inc. Good luck.

I didn't get paid either... I talked to Steve Carney a while back and he told me that the company they're using for payments isn't paying them, so they don't have any money for the tutors. I think its BS, but that doesn't matter. I went to the department of labor today and filed a complaint, they told me I should get a copy of all my paper work, not just the time sheets, but also the papers the parents sign, so when the date comes to talk to the Labor commissioner, I have proof.
They shouldnt be this behind in paying their tutors, I've heard rumors about what Mike Carney does with his money from previous employees who now opened up their own company... I could really careless what he does as long as I get paid.
Everyone should complain to the labor commissioner closest to you because this shouldn't be happening.

I have been working for Carney education for three years now have been waiting for check now for three months. I receive a bunch of apologies, and that they are waiting for investor money to kick in, in the mean time they expect tutors to continue to work, and keep billing school district, end of month. I had enough and stopped, I told parents, the honest truth and told them to nofify district, and change their contract to other tutoring services, since I have to go to court, now.

I am a worker for Carney right now and I am already experiencing these sort of things, hasn't actually happened to me yet, but a lot of others. Supposedly I was paid out of someones pocket, so I wouldn't leave. This is such a dis-honest company, I'm not sure what I am going to do yet. Today I was asked to clean up bathrooms after I was off, I asked If I would get paid for it, and she told me never mind, but she had just done that to someone the other week, and made her clock out before she was done... frustrated and not sure what to do.

Unfortunately my experience has been the same. Teachers paying for supplies, being told of reimbursements, and never getting refunded. The promise of supplies is always unfilled, leaving the children empty handed and the staff feeling responsible. Pay periods are most always late and every employee at my site finds themselves checking to see if the dates on their checks are even correct. They tried to slip by without paying us for an entire week once and a few hours the next. If you work for this company document the hours you work to make sure that your pay is correct.
