Bought the Yardworks Cordless Reel Lawnmower (model [protected]) in May 2007 from Canadian Tire in Winnipeg. Used it twice before I realized that buying this mower was a great mistake. It simply does not cut the grass properly. Called customer service to voice my complaint and was told that I could not get a refund or exchange because it was used. Sent an e-mail to head office asking for a refund and challenged their policy on used items, asking: how can one know if something works unless you use it at least once? Didn't receive a direct answer regarding a refund or exchange. The last I heard, Customer Service was going to send my correspondence to their buying office for review. I 'll be surprised if I ever hear from them again... I believe this is another stall tactic on their part. My advice: don't shop at Canadian Tire and don't ever buy a Yardworks lawnmower.

This is an update concerning The Yardworks, cordless reel lawnmower that I purchased from Canadian Tire. After discussing my dilemma with the owner, I returned the mower on Sunday (July 29) and was given a full refund. Thank you Canadian Tire... you restored my faith in dealing fairly with customers!

I purchased a lawn mower in May 2018. Put the oil in as per directions went to Pioneer and got premium gas it worked for three months and black smoke came billowing out called Cdn Tire bring it back. Did so and was treated like a criminal you probably used old gas ?
Or didn t put oil in it YES I had the attendant check it was full
Had to pay 113.00 for some to look at it and find out the problem. You and I know it will be my fault !
Canadian Tire never takes responsibility for selling JUNK!
Oh and don t be fooled there are two spaces to sign first to find out the problem
2nd. TO PAY FOR REPAIR
I paid $359.00 plus tax. And now another $113.00. And they want me to pay again ?
Funny thing though I had a Sears lawnmower for 28 years and never had a problem.
As others state go to Home Depot. Rona. lowes anyone but Cdn Tire

I bought an Air Conditioner from Canadaian Tire & after one use found it didn't cool the room as the box said. (up to 300sq feet) so wanted to returned it.. Because I had used it, it was non-returnable - How do you know you like something unless you use it! Unbelievable...a note for others...If you buy it from CANADIAN TIRE AND USE IT...IT'S YOURS...Embarrassed they have the Canadian name associated with the store!

In the flyer computer chairs were shown on sale with a picture of one. Regular 199.99 on for 99.99. I went in to the store and picked up the one in the picture(price was 199.99). Went to cashier and was told that it was not the one on sale. When I spoke to the manager on duty, she said that it was not the right one(numbers don't match) and that I should go get the right one. First she could clearly see that I walk with a cane, second why would the item pictured not be the one on sale(she said they normally put the "prettier" one in the flyer) and third she said I should watch for the shelf sale signs(none were there). I called c/s and was told I would get a gift card in aweek or so, but nothing for the gas, $ for my pay as you go phone that I used to call them, or for the aggravation. FORGET IT! I need the chair now, not in a couple of weeks. I will NEVER shop there again,

We purchased Snow Thrower in Canadian Tire at Yonge and Steeles. After 2 days we decided to return this product, because our friends have same machine and it works very bad . We never opened that box. But in the store they told us, that this machine have been used, and refused to accept return of this merchandise, wich is strictly against their policy .This is a shame for a company of this caliber to have such bad business practice. My family decide from now on never ever to purchase anything from Canadian Tire again.

This morning my 12 year old son tried to return a battery bracket he bought for his go cart.

the bracket was unopened, not used in any way he has a reciept and the bag it came in.

He waited in line at the returns counter, he finally got to the front of the line.

He was asked for picture ID, he is 12 and only has a library card. They would not return the item without picture ID. He came home upset, and rightfully so.

A television was purchased for the grandchildren on 01/11/2009 at this Canadian Tire store. Towards the end of May or first of June they were watching a program and one of them started holloring nanny, the TV has smoke coming out of it. I ran into the room, meet by a burning smell and immediately unpluged the unit. F ew days later it was taken to the store, where they said it would be sent to the rapair shop which is not far from the store. I was to check back in five days which I did. It had not even been sent to the repair shop but believe it was that same day. Would probably be still sitting there had I not called. That has been over a month now and when called today, just got the run around so called the repair shop. Of course needs a part which it has needed for 3 weeks now and not sure if they can get one.I am not a person who has money to throw around and I certainly am not one to let things go hoping I would either forget, or just not bother. My voice will be heard long before the warranty runs out. But I can promice you one thing, my husband is a strong supporter of Canadian Tire for many years and have spent our fair share of money at this establishment but if this matter is not taken care of and very soon, we will never darken the doors of Canadian Tire again. It is not fair that the grandchildren have no TV to watch here during the day when I baby sit them. If I do not get a response, I will know that no one is planning to do anything about this problem and will take further steps.

Last night we did fill up gas and pump have a sign(Credit card not working). Filled-up gas and went inside to pay. Gave the card to person and he ( attendant name Shan) started to call us liar, abuse us with many words.
I don't were to file a complaint so i did it here.

I had a remote starter installed at CT 4 months later the remote display was all scrambled I looked at the warranty and it said there was a 1 year replacement, I went to the service department and waited in line when I got to the service desk the manager told I had to go to parts, over to parts and took a number, finally I got to speak to Chuck I explained the problem and he said you have to go the service center I told him that’s where I just came he phoned the manger she told him to order another remote, Chuck was hitting keys on the computer than turned and walked away I assumed he was going to get a remote, 15 mins later Chuck returned with the whole remote starter kit, I told him all I need is the remote he said sorry that’s the way they come and we went back to the service desk, chuck dropped off the package and I stood in line to talk to the manager, two customers and 15 mins later she looked at what Chuck dropped off and said all you need is the remote, she called Chuck and sent me back over to parts, Chuck once again hits the computer and silently left, this time was only 10 mins when he returned he informed me they would have to order one, “fine lets order one” I said Chuck replied I can’t without the managers approval “fine lets go back and get the service manager to do that”, she can’t Chuck replied only the parts manager can order one and he won’t be in until sometime this afternoon, I’ll get him to phone you at home... that was two weeks ago and I’m still waiting I really don’t think he’s going to call

I had purchased a DVD player in April and have used it 3 times. It has worked fine up until now(as little as we used it). The one screen now will not play a movie as it only has lines through it. I brought the DVD player back in it's original packaging with the receipt and just wanting to exchange it but I was not able to. Bart (manager) told me that the warranty is good for only 30 days. I told him that I only used it 3 times it is pretty much brand new. He did not seem to care about that. He told me that because I told him that I used it I was not able to exchange it because it is not "brand new" and now they can't sell it. I looked at him quite frustrated and asked him if I had this right. If I was to of told him I never used it than I could exchange it with it not working and all? He said correct but now that I have told him I used it 3 times I was not able to. I was disgusted in a Canadian Tire manager telling me that we as customers would get further if we lie. I guess that now I know what I have to do. However, this is not good for stores but as a consumer I also will not be taken for a ride. We work hard for our money as well. I chose to buy this at Canadian Tire because it is a Canadian store and I always support our stores first. However, my thought now is that I will shop at Wal mart. After all if Canadian Tire does not honor there products than why should I support them? If this can be resolved in any other way please feel free to contact me by e-mail.

After 2.5 hrs waiting for an emissions test (they estimated 1 hr wait time), I was informed the network was down and they could not perform my test. I understand that these things happen, but they would not offer me any concessions for my almost 3 hours of completely wasted time sitting in their crummy waiting area. I should have known better after reading so many other poor reviews of the Canadian Tire auto service centres.

Yesterday was April 17 2011. I Brought my vehicle to Canadiantire to check brake, Alternator Bell and Oil change. I left my vehicle there for few hours, after that the auto service department called me and gave me the quote for total 797 dollars. I told them that I check the flyer they have 25% off for the BRAKE SERVICE with ATE premium pad. I asked him if I want to go with that kind of brake pads them i have 25% off, right? He told me it is too expensive to go with that. I agreed with him and told him ( Ok go ahead) One hour later I went back to the shop, Another service guy talked to me that Why don't you go with ATE pad so you can have this count. Once again I talked to him that Do i have a chance to get ATE pad instead of standard pads. He said ok . We can make a change for that and he gave me the quote that 652 dollar . That was fine for me with this sum.. When I came back to pick up my vehicle, The guy gave me the second quote went home already. Only the F guy gave me the first quote still stayed. He asked me to pay the same amount like the first time he talked to me. I was busy at the time I picked up my vehicle so I didn't check the Bill. After I went home, I calculated the total. I suprised that everthing went wrong so I came back to the store the next moring to talk about my bill. One Guy came out from the back of the store reached and asked (Do I need some help?) I said yeah and sent him my bill and told him that something wrong with my invoice. Calculation was not corrected. He checked back and forth with his computer's calculator. Then He found out that the amonut was not right based on his calculation.. but he refused that their workers "s fault. He said ( I am a manger of this department ) ... gee What is the guy .He has a very bad attitude to deal with customers. He had no honor to represent the Manager of Canadian tire service. After hafl an hour talking about my invoice, He still disagreed that his fautl. I walked home with my disappoinment about Giant Canadian tire with bad service, cheating bill with their customers. This is the last time I visited this S store .

I had been struggling to make payments the past few years but had only missed one payment, however master card changed my normal billing date of the 24 of each month to the 14 without notice. This allowed them to increase my interest rate from around 19 to 26 percent because now I had missed 2 payments.(keep in mind the billing date changed back to the 24th for the next month.. It is now coming up exactly one year that I have not missed any payments and under the credit card rules they are suppose to lower my rate down to the original rate. Guess what ! They changed my billing date again so I would have missed the final payment to have once year of clear payments... however, I made the payment on time because I just happened to call into the automated service for my balance and due date... This should be considered criminal.

I WAS WARNED NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH CANADIAN TIRE STORES AND NOW I AM THE ONE WARNING YOU:i had one thousand five hundred dollars of mechanical work done;everything they touched they screwed up and would not take responsibility for:they put daytime running lights on my truck;my instrument panel went nuts with pretty coloured warning lights;they said my truck was like that before and they were much to expierienced to make such an error:they replaced my brake shoes;as of then my emergency brake no longer worked;they charged me to replace the steering box but only replaced the seal;lucky i caught that fraud:so today i try to return a small defective item and i get the same snaughty feedback from this company:i am done with this company;give your business to people who earn it:

supervisor of auto dept made a sick very sick young man serve 1 more customer before he could go home because she had to go outside, im not sure why mabey to have a cigerette?, i was not happy and did not want to be served by young man who was coughing and blowing his dripping nose he was obviously sick as a dog well i felt that the whole place is contaminated now and passed on any further work for now couldnt wait to get out of there, also when a man said he wanted the sale price on some tires what it said on the sale sign, she simply said she didnt have an updated flyer and argued with the man, and would not give him the sale price, that sign should be taken down, even i know better than that .the customer is always right in a case like that and she should honer the prices on flyer .i needed more work on car but like i said i could not wait to get out of there as not to catch anything,

We placed an order for 5 kayaks on July 21/13. They took our name to call us when they came in, we PAID in full they didn't seem to care I asked them a few times you are sure you will call us. Yes we will. They never did and now it's Aug 26/13. We went to check if they were in and they said they had 4 on the floor which obviously they never checked their book to see if they had some on back order for someone. Which we had 5 of them. They said we can't order some the season is finished and we can't get them. They have to give us another one at a different price which they should of just gave it to us because it was their fault. Now for the paddles they only had three so we are missing paddles. (NO PADDLES FOR ALL OF THEM AND THEY DON'T MATCH) . It was for an organization it would have been good advertising for you guys but not anymore. I will go anywhere else but there to find things from now on. I am really really disappointed in that type of service. On another occasion I was looking for a specific thing nobody would come to help us, they were walking around us and not acknowledging us. When finally I tracked down somebody to help one hour later.they really didn't want to help you. You could see it in them they didn't care. I left and I was mad. I can tell you I will not give you guys a good name, I will tell all my friends and co-workers to go somewhere else before going there. It's really too bad because you have nice stuff in there. From a Really mad and disappointed customer.

Greetings,

As a client of Canadian Tire corp. forthe past couple of years+ I have to share my disappointment with the last service to my vehicle/ Invoice [protected].

I brought in my car especially to check my electrical system and to repair lights.My concerns were not addressed professionally and they weren't repaired to my satisfaction. Lights still DO NOT WORK!.

On the day of my appointment ( Nov 05.2012), over an hour into waiting for the call, your customer service associate called me with the quote for repairs and other findings that were to be completed and I agreed to be looked after based on his phone quote etc.

My invoice clearly shows the mentioned problems were not addressed and the problem is still there! And all that after coughing up over a $1000 to your coffers!.

On a personal note; Mr. Mario should use some Customer Service training to know that his place in CT auto service is to professionally serve paying customers instead of being condescending and arrogant member of your personnel.

I hope you will look into my case and resolve the issue in a professional manner.

My car was stall and i had to call a Tow truck to take it to Canadiantire
I was told by Candiantire stuff I neeeded to replace the Fuses, I agree to do so ; the charge was $275.00 $10.00 for the fuse the rest for labour and tax. The next day the car was stall, I could not drive the car I went back to Canadiantire with different car to expalin the situation I was told "it's not their problem" and I decided to take it to another garage, they told me it's the Fuse And they changed the fuses and the car was back to normal

I realy want to fix this problem so it wont happen agian to somebodyelss

Bought Yardworks 24V Cordless Lawn Mower [protected]) on13 May 08 at CTC, Merivale Road, Ottawa and spoke with Tom Ogilvy, Gen Manager, in Jun 08 that I didn't realize how heavy this lawnmower was to push. I am in my eighties and really found it difficult. Very sympathetic but could do nothing for me. Always had difficulty with this battery keeping a charge and finally after a little more than two years the battery can no longer hold a charge, even though I charged it every month during the winter. It cost me $394.79 for this lawnmower. To buy a new battery with charger and taxes will cost $170.10. What to do?

I totally agree . CDN. Tire sells crap and cant help you when their product fail. Ever tried to get parts to fix their crappy tools? CDN. tire should have stuck to selling auto parts. Even that is getting to be unreliable. Best to not buy any thing from CND. Tire.

300 sq feet is a small area. What is the BTU size of the unit? It should be 7000 to 8000 BTU's for that size area.

Did you buy the right size for the room you are trying to cool?

If you are trying to cool a bedroom or studio apt, make sure any outside sources of heat are eliminated. Close blinds as sunlight can make a room hot as he-double hockey sticks.

As others have stated, at first the lawn mower was like a dream come true. I absolutely loved it and it was so easy to start and soooo quiet that I could mow in the mornings. Regrettably by week three the charger had failed! By the time we ran back and forth to the city to replace the charger and then the very expensive batteries we would have been further ahead to buy an easy start gas mower and we could have been set for years to come! I thought I may have bought a lemon of a mower, but after reading all the complaints, I would say a Yardwork's mower is not a good consumer purchase. I have no complaints about their weed-wacker. It has served me well for over three years and is very light and fun to use.

First battery lasted 2 months and was replaces by canadian tire after much arguing. They treat you as if you're a crimina.. Second battery lasted 2years and is now dead... No more yardworks... Actually no more cdn tire

I have the same unit as most of the writers. It was abandoned in the back lane by my house. After a quick wiring repair on the charging circuit, it now charges up overnight. I am an electrician by trade, and have lots of experience with batteries, so I'm going to try a different charging setup. I hope this may solve the charging issues. If this does work for me, I will post the instructions and relevant info back here and hopefully save y'all some money and grief. Sadly, battery technology is about 100 years behind where it should be. Also, I do find the chargers as a rule woefully inadequit for most lead acid batteries.

We bought a yardworks mower with a rechargeable battery in 2008. It has worked great for our size of yard and until this spring, the battery has worked great. It does hold a charge, but a few mornings I have woken to what I thought might be a natural gas smell in our basement. That sulphery rotten smell. Our battery was plugged in, recharging and it was the cause if the putrid smell. It was quite warm to touch as well. Although it does hold a charge well enough for us to now the lawn, I worry about the battery leaking or staring something on fire. Anyone else had this problem?

I bought a yardworks reel style cordless mower in 2007, worked great until the second time I went to use it in 2010. Now it won't charge or start up at all. Called yardworks they said it was probably the battery and they would sell mw a new one for $120.00 sipped to my house. Called a repair shop and they said that it is very common for the yardworks batteries to die. So now I have nothing for the $199.99 plus tax I paid. These are garbage! Don't be a sucker like the rest of us. Stay away from yardworks! Save your money.

It seems everyone has the same issue here with Yardworks Lawn mowers. I too, thought that going 'green' with a battery lawn mower was the way to go. I was in Canadian Tire and the model [protected] was being promoted. I bought one 2 years ago and the first year it seemed to work OK. Last year it was not charging enough to cut my whole lawn...very small area, and I would have to stop and recharge overnight to get the charge back up to finish. It should not take 2 days to cut a small lawn!

This year, cutting my grasss has become a career!

The charger/battery will not work now at all. I have been hunting all over the net to find parts and it is impossible. From reading all the complaints, going back to Canadian TIre seems like a waste of time.

So... 2 years of cutting the grass and I need to replace my lawnmover. Forget Canadian Tire...Home Depot or Lowes, here I come.

Some one mentioned that the product is made in China. I have numerous other products in my house (as most of us do) that are made in China and I have a broken part on a recliner that Leons says will take 7 to 9 months to get the replacement part. 7 to 9 months, can you believe it?

Maybe if we stopped having all our products made in China, we could get back to quality parts and keep people employed. Most likely we would pay more but would only pay once and not every 3 years.

Just my humble opinion.

Ok my turn to have a beef with Yardworks. I bought a cordless chainsaw last year, bought the battery and charger, they all come separately. They have a whole family of cordless tools that all use the same battery and charger so your first purchase is a bit expensive but then after that you can add to your collection as needed, kind of cool I thought, well I was wrong. This year I went to buy the weed eater but it only comes packaged with the battery and charger, you can not just buy the weed eater, I already have the charger and battery, so I am screwed. I did not know that you had to start your collection with the weed eater if you didn't want to end up having to pay for two chargers and two batteries.

Anyway in my unfruitful quest to buy just a weed eater, I now know that Yardworks is a brand name for Canadian Tire products that are manufactured by different companies, that is why there is no contact info or web site for Yardworks. If you have a problem, Canadian Tire will refer you to these companies but these companies don't really give a crap about our problems with their products because their name is not on them and they refer you back to Canadian Tire and they don't care if you boycott Yardworks products, they are not solely Yardworks.

There is a large number of complaints for the Yard Works battery lawn movers. This isn't the only place people are complaining. google it...

If you have a yard works battery lawn mover like the [protected] model...and you suspect the battery is dead...there is a fix. No, I am not talking about calling the warranty number and finding out that the warranty is only 1 year (what is that about anyways). Or that they will fix it by sending a new battery that costs you $120 plus tax and you have to install.

Solution:

Call the warranty number and ask where you can get the lawn mover serviced. Because to be honest you don't really know that it is the battery but maybe you suspect it. Now call the local store that handles the service and ask what it costs to replace the batteries if you install it yourself. I say batteries because some are actually 2 battery in series (like mine).

Chances are they know which battery if you tell the model. Then watch my video I put on youtube and hopefully you can save your lawn mover.

Each winter you can either take out the battery or move the entire lawn mover into your basement. Either way DO NOT simply do what the yard works manual says and leave it in the cold. That is where the problem lies, I suspect.

Thank you all so much for your comments, I almost went ahead and bought a Yardworks self-propelled cordless model, but now I will steer clear of this product. Hopefully, in time other manufacturers will create a self-propelled cordless mower that works great.

I bought the yardworks 24v cordless 20" mover from Canadian Tire just under 2 years ago. Battery is dead as can be. Called for replacement to yardworks and was forwarded to sunrisetools.ca. They told me battery is only 1 year warranty. Well of course it is because if it were 2 years your company would be bust.

...frustrating...

Canadian Tire will see my lawnmover this morning...and I will demand a replacement.

piece of junk...both the product and the store for continuing to have these on sale STILL.

I am very glad I found this site - appears I'm not the only one to find the lawn mower [protected] is garbage. Bought it the end of June last year, tried it last week, in April - the mower was 10 months old. Dead. We kept it in a heated garage plugged in all winter, and the thing lasted less than 5 minutes. Not a gig. Piece of absolute junk...and the grass is still growing! I found the reciept and will call Yardworks but am not expecting much, based on what I've read. Will call Canadian tire too, and report back, after I bring a printout of this site.

I can't help but throw in yet another similar testimonal. I too bought the battery-powered reel style Yardworks mower (now a doorstop). I really wanted to go green and trusted CT to sell a reasonable product. I am very disappointed to find the same problem as everyone else here... the battery just doesn't do the job. I have thick grass and it lasts about 10-15 minutes. I think CT should do a general recall of the product and offer a refund to anyone who had the misfortune of purchasing it.

yardwork sucks, but Canadian tire is no where better...I was trying to support Canadian store becuase I live in Canada, but now I only go to Homedepot...even they're little more costly, but much better service...

I checked the voltage of the charger and it is putting out 32V Maybe the problem with these mowers is the charger not the batteries. Some people were getting bulging sides on the batteries I think they are being over charged.

I agree with the statements about the quality of Yardworks products. Every single yardworks product I have bought from Canadian tire in the past has been a piece of garbage. (hose nozzels to hose clamps). Extremely poor quality merchandise at premium prices. I'm suprised that CTC does not find another supplier with all the complaints going around.
