Canadian Tire return

I have a complaint about the Canadian Tire Store in Chatham Ont, I purchased a Noma Thermostat on 10/25/08. Returned the thermostate the same day for a different one. There was no one in the store to help me choose the right one. So once again I purchased the wrong one. I went to return it on 11/01/08 and was givin the most humiliating time. First she said the receipt was wrong. Which it wasnt because that is what I was givin. Then she called the manager and some one in a suit who stared us down for 15 min. Then she appolized that she had read the wrong code. She continued to tell us we would receive a gift card for the return which was fine. The thermostate cost us 44.04 with tax. She was only able to give us the amount for 14.00 as that was a sale price. We were so frusterated that we took the thermosate back and vowed never to return to this store. What a scam they run. We will be shopping at Home depot or Walmart from now on as they have no problems with return items. How can such a great store be run like this? unbeleiveable.
Sincerly Mark

I got the same problem with this Store in Chatham kent, they treat customer really bad every time we return something, like criminal, the worst lady her name is Pathy, she never let you return if you already open it event never used, most the time if I want to return I have to go to some where else, not Chatham store, not only me got the problem, most my friends said so, so we never return to this store, only when we could not find anywhere else, Canadian Tire store in Chatham Kent never in my favour list, I would rather shopping some where like Target or Walmart, with no problem return. If every time you want to return something, then you see Mrs Pathy, she will treat you like ###, and you have no chance to grey your money back. stay away from them.

I wonder if you bothered to read your information and warranty booklet that came along with snow blower? If you had, you would clearly see what the warranty was. Do you buy a car without asking what the warranty is? No, you ask. If you wanted to know a specific warranty, you should have taken the initiative and asked. It is not up to each cashier to tell every customer what the warranty is on every single product. Could you imagine standing in that line up?
Next time I recommend that you read the information that is provided to you, ask about the warranty information, and stop attacking a store because of what probably was your own fault. And I'm sure that you were "sugar coated" while dealing with the representatives trying to help you. The ruder you act to a customer service rep, the less they are going to bother helping you.

Once again Canadian Tire has ripped me off. I don't think it unfair to say that it is an embarassment to have the word Canadian in the name of a store which treats its customers so poorly. This time it's a snow blower, I have used it 5 times and it has broke 3 times.Last March the handle that controls the throwing mechanism as well as the plastic guide for the cable broke.I brought it back and they told me there was no exchange or money back on this product, something they failed to tell me when I purchased it.They said it would have to be sent out for repair.I sarcasticly said 'I guess I won't see it again until June.' I was assured by the manager that it wouldn't be that long.Well she was right I got it back in July. Now it is December guess what? That's right it broke again. This time the rip cord came off in my hand, so I dragged across my yard and plugged it in to use the electric start. It started right up then I pulled the handle in to start the snow throwing process and the machine started smoking and an awful smell of burning rubber filled the air, oh and it didn't throw any snow.Once again I contacted Canadian Tire.I was told to bring it to a repitable repair place and if my complaints were lagitament they would see what they could do. I am sure that no one is going to look at this machine for free so I assume they expect me to flip the bill for that too.I'm still trying to figure out why it's my responsibility to get the machine looked at when it is supposed to be there product. I'm sure they must have another answer for that too.I recomend everyone who doesn't like to get ripped off to boycot this poor excuse for a store. This branch is in Vegreville AB. P.S.these comments WERE sugar coated.

Canadian Tire nasty staff

If you can find any other store to buy your goods from in Spruce Grove DO IT! The customer service people are down right hostile. I have stood in line and listened to a teller talk down to a customer, and yesterday it was my turn.

As I strolled throught the store, spending my hard earned dollars and quietly whistling to myself, a middle aged customer service agent was walking near me.

I called out, " excuse me!"

she stopped and snapped, " were you just whistling at me?"

I stood there stunned.

" Because calling excuse me is fine, but if you whisle at me ... I am not dog.. i dont like to be whislted at..."

Anyways, it degenerated from there.

My advice to you: The people in that store ARE NOT HAPPY you are spending your money to help them earn a living. SO DONT . Go elsewhere.

It amazes me that this outlet of a fairly strong franchise is allowed to remain in operation. I can only agree with many of the above comments. I have found the staff to be actively hostile, often too busy or disinterested to provide any customer support. Recently while trying to purchase a marine battery I was handed a slip of paper with a number on it and directed to a rack of batteries to fend for myself. The number didn't seem related to anything on the shelf. At other times I have found staff to be rude, and have even had staff actively avoid providing help, by heading in the opposite direction. I have attempted simple returns and found the staff at the customer service department to be condescending and disinterested. As others have said, while I continue to be a regular Canadian Tire customer, neither I nor my family will shop again in Spruce Grove.

I cannot believe there is so many people who think like me in Spruce Grove, Alberta!
A bunch of rude clerks & a slovenly teens at the return desk with gross things hanging of its lips, eyebrows, or tongue. YICK!
I wonder why they are still in business when they are so disliked.

I agree about the staff attitude with a few exceptions. The attitude and actions of the employees reflect the attitudes of the management. I recently had the experience of having my bag searched as I was leaving the store, evidently this is a new management initiative in order to cut down on shoplifting. Customers who are treated as though they are criminals will not be customers for very long. I will not buy anything at the Canadian Tire Spruce Grove store unless there is absolutely no other option and I will be sure to spread the word on how they treat customers. Other business establishments have "customer appreciation" Canadian Tire Spruce Grove has "customer suspicion".

Canadian Tire would not let me return

On oct / 15 / 08

I tried returning a mastercraft jigsaw.
I was working with it the day before, after just using it for a few minutes the whole complete front unit flew apart.
The saw was then useless. I thought because it was a mastercraft it was guaranteed for life. Guess I was mistaken. The girl at the return said it was only guaranteed for 3 years. That's funny I always thought, and heard mastercraft stood behind their products. I guess I was wrong. Not to mention the snotty girl said it was only guaranteed for 3 years. And was discontinued. That's also funny, you do the math, it was discontinued in 2005. This is 2008. Funny that's not 3 years is it.
After this expierence I will not be shopping with your company ever again.

P. S I am a contractor and do a lot of job's, but it will not be with canadian tire products, or tools ever again.

The average complainer normally over exaggerates on their stories. yes for warranty on power tools specifies must have receipt. if you don't have it then shut up and accept it. if you [censored] about it then you are the one that any stores should not deal or sell to you. for all complainers they should tagged at the store on the wall of complainers to advise all customer care agents and cashier that they may have issues and may have to explain the full warranty information to the buyer and high light the info possibly print it out on a bill board for them to read and understand. maybe even give a warranty crash course when buying a tool since so many complainers don't care they just love causing [censored]. to all complainer I salut you by waving my middle finger high up in the air. and please keep your receipt and read the warranty information and the fine print: "must have receipt, all power tools are warranty for 3 years from the date of purchase". if you don't like canadian tire then stop shopping there. don't bash them unless your ok if they bash you

How is Canadian Tire supposed to know the Dewalt drill was "theirs"? Dewalt products are sold by many stores, if it was a Canadian Tire branded item then sure you may have a point...but how is the staff supposed to know when the drill was bought? Say the drill was bought 5 years ago and had a 3 year warranty, without proof they would never get compensation from Dewalt. I don't know how paying cash makes a difference unless you keep credit card statements for years...but I sort of doubt that since it appears that you can't keep receipts very long either...

Twice I paid cash for dewalt drill set and just recently a mastercraft sump pump this adds up to about five hundred dollars in cash, both broke before there warranty ran out, I misplace the receipt on both items, when I tried to return the products the same excuse was used. "I can not accept them because I would be out the amount from the company" by the management. so now I am a thief, so the motto is this, dont pay cash, dont lose or misplace your receipt... dont buy from canadian tire store in thunder bay ontario canada, never never never deal with the store... they will treat you like a thief even on there own product...in front of customers,

The lifetime warranty applies to hand tools only (not power ones). so the saw was discontinued in 2008? 3 year warranty? cool... you could have bought it back in 2003 for all we know, 3 minus 8 equals 5... so keep your receipt and don't buy household tools to use commercially.

I also had an issue with mastercraft customer care; my plunging router, which I had for maybe 4 years, stopped working a few weeks ago. even if it has been working only 7-8 hours during those 4 years, I knew that the waranty was only 3 years. no problem, I am quite handy and found out that the problem was with the brushes, a $5 part easy to replace. so I called their toll-free number to purchase a pair of brushes and I was answered that they recently changed the model and they don't carry spare parts for my model, as it is discontinued. so when you buy mastercraft tools, don't expect them to last more than waranty! if any cheap part breaks, you can't fix and have to buy a new one. (what about environment?) it's like having to discard your '67 mustang because they don't make mufflers for this car any more! I had just bough a $150 mastercraft nailer a few weeks ago; I put it back in the box, returned it and got refunded; no more mastercraft tools for me!

The guy is a contractor, so he beats the hell out of the tool for 3 years and finally it breaks down due to normal wear and tear and he actually expects the warranty to take care of that? in case he doesn't know, the warranty is against d e f e c t s not normal wear and tear or abuse!

This is besides the fact the tool was out of warranty etc.

I challenge our illiterate complainer friend to find a power tool with a written life time warranty that will cover home use as well as commercial use. good luck buddy.

I also work at the customer service desk at canadian tire and I must respond to the complaint that has been given. if a customer just picks up the box, he will find on the outside of the box of all mastercraft power tools, the warranty is clearly stated. the common misconception is that all mastercraft has a lifetime warranty. that is not the case. that is the case for hand tools. so first of all, if the complainer knew how to read, he would have understood the warranty on the product. secondly, in order for any product to be guaranteed, the customer must keep their receipt. I can gather by this incoherent rambling, that our complainer clearly did not have his. this will show the customer service representative at the desk when the product was purchased and they can verify whether the product is still under its warranty or not. without the receipt there is very little that can be done because, how would the service desk representative know you're not just another jack knob returning something they abused and that is way beyond the warranty period. finally, you, mr. complainer, seem like a real pleasant individual to work with. (that is sarcasm, should you understand the definition of this word.) your suggestion that because your return was not possible, given the policies she must follow, makes her a snotty girl, suggests to me that you already had an opinion about her and an attitude of intolerance because you are somehow better than her in your mind. it is likely that this girl is only there to make money for her education, much like myself, and she is likely to someday turn out to be your boss. this is a comment based on your lack of sentence structure and improper grammar, which just told me you're not that smart. before you make yourself out to be better than anyone else, please try and exercise your brain somewhat and formulate a rational argument. this again proves to me that though customers always think they are right, they often are not. often times they're not only wrong, but they are #s as well. thank you for another confirmation of that.

I purchase a lot of the mastercraft tools over the years, the maxximum brand only, I find it great quality, better warranty than the brand name tools, nobody takes the time to read the complete warranty, I think if your a canadian tire card member, dont you get double the factory warranty

Canadian Tire canadian tire mastcard - very poor poor customer serive

I have been a loyal Canadian Tire Options Mastercard customer for over 10 years. I have only been late 1 time and it was only a few days late on my payment due to being out of town.
A few days ago I travelled to Tampa Florida for a vacation. I booked my hotel, flight and car all through expedia.ca and with my Canadian Tire Options Mastercard. Everything was paid in full. The web site also advised that you need to have $100 available credit on your Mastercard when you pick up the rental car. I paid $5000 through my bank 2 days prior to my trip to ensure I would have the available credit. Well I finally got to Tampa and went to pick up my car and Budget told me that my credit card was declined as there was not $100 available credit. I thought, no problem I will call Canadian Tire and they will sort out the problem and I will get my car.
Problem #1- Canadian Tire is too cheap to have a 1-800# that works in the States. It says to call the 905 # collect if you are out of Canada. Okay fine I try calling collect. The US phone company in Florida is automated - and Canadian tire phone centre is automated so I never get to speak to anyone. I even call the operator and she tries but says it is taking too long to get through and I will have to call direct. So I have to use my credit card to call Canadian tire mastercard and they charge me for the call? Okay now after 30 minutes I finally have a woman named Perri on the phone and I explain my situation -how I am stranded in Tampa on vacation and cant pick up the car because the rental company says I dont have the available credit on my card. Well Perri tells me that i have $80 available credit and they have no way of knowing I just paid $5000 2 days ago. Hello I have been a loyal client for over 10 years with a $10, 000 credit limit. She even talks to her manager and comes back and tells me there is nothing they can do. Okay in this day and age can you believe that Canadian Tire cannot give me a temporary credit limit increase of $20 to help me out -it is not like I am unemployed and cannot afford this - I make close to $100K per year. She suggests that I speak nicely to the rental company and see if they can just take $80 off the card. Canadian Tire financial services' key phrase is customer's for life. Sorry but I just dont see it. If they really cared I think they would have done this for me as there was 0 risk for them and it would have made me a loyal card holder for many more years. Due to this horrible disservice they have done to me I will be passing on this information to all of my friends and posting what happened in as many forums as possible. In this day and age where credit companies are crumbling i would like that companies like CTFS would do everything they can to stay afloat and be competative with the big banks.
Okay I am done with my ranting, I am know going to cut up my card and burn it. Long live AMEX!

atmoka79: What kind of knowledgeable person is going to work for $9.20/ hour? The really knowledgeable people have all found jobs with better wages. I don't think its fair to blame this on young employees though. It sounds like this person just expected too much from a branded credit card. Why should Canadian tire be so involved in the US? It's CANADIAN Tire. Another case of customers who think the world revolves around them.

That was a mistake on the part of your bank, not CT. As well, if you had paid in cash/debit at a Canadian Tire location the money would have been credited to your card immediately.

Yes I cut up my options Mastercard years ago. Canadian Tire is very sneaky as they keep lowering the amount of CanadianTire Money you get but do not communicate this to their client. You dont know until you actually calculate it and have already spend the money. Amex is the best - there cust service is a-1 and cant be beat. I have heard many horror stories on Canadian Tire stores and credit cards.

Canadian Tire bad products

On Sept 30th I purchased a convection oven from Canadian tire in Welland, I asked if I was able to check the product before I left the store to see if it was damaged and was told that I could not, so i brought it home and sure enough it was damaged, so I returned it for a refund and then I went to the Port Colborne store and I was able to check those ones there as there was 2 both of them were damaged as well. I also purchased a 20 inch tv in December from the Welland Canadian Tire and it was also Damged very badly and again I was told I could not check the Tv before I brought it home, I have to say that The Welland Canadian Tire has a very poor customer service. Something needs to be done about this. I have been in there for other products too and get the same run around I am not a very happy about this stores practices. Please return your thoughts on this matter.

Deb Anderson.

First off if you buying tv.s and ovens at canadian tire your looking for a cheap deal on something. I would never in a million years buy anything like that from a place like canadian tire or walmart. etc. There is a reason that these items are so cheap and attracted ytou in the first place. Go to a reputable store that sell appliences like leons or The Brick.

As someone who worked for CTC for more than 17 years, I have to say that this was unacceptable for the Welland Store. I worked at another CT in the region and the moment you asked to see the oven before you bought it, I would have had that box opened for you in a heartbeat. It only makes sense. Taking a few minutes before you purchased it and checking it, saves everybody potential headaches. It was inconveinent for you to go throught that process, not to mention the extra time involved on the stores end, and now the bad PR. Although I left CT 2 years ago, I assure you, not every one offer that inexcusable level of service. Fort Erie is great to deal with.

Canadian Tire car held for ransom by canadian tire

this is a copy of the letter that I drafted to sent to Canadian Tire Head Office

I am writing to you to give you an insight on how female customers are treated by your automotive service department at the Regina Saskatchewan Canadian Tire North and how they held my car hostage.

On Friday, September 26, 2008, I took my car to your automotive service department at the Canadian Tire North in Regina Saskatchewan to have two winter tires replace on the front of my car. All seemed to be going well, but it was taking forever. Two males were working on the car and they would continually go back and forth from my car to others. When they would come back to my car they would again begin tightening the lug nuts. As they would tighten them the car would lunge forward showing that they were tight. This went on for quite a while until I finally exited the store and went into the service bay through the service bay outside doors asking these two males what was taking so long. They informed me that ALL MY STUDS WERE STRIPPED AND THEY COULD NOT TORQUE THE LUG NUTS AND THEY NEEDED TO MAKE A CLICKING SOUND TO SAY THAT THEY WERE TIGHT. Well low and behold well I was standing there the first one that they tightened clicked. I told them to wrap it up and release my car I would take it to my regular mechanic in Regina and have it look at it before I left town, I live an hour out of Regina. Then I returned into the service department and was confronted by they Service manager, Jim Euteneier. He informed me that they would not release my car to me and that it would remain with them until it was fixed. I refused to have it looked at by Canadian tire mechanics and wanted it released. Finally after phoning my mechanic he agreed to let me have it towed to my mechanic at Moleski Service Centre & Auto Parts Store just a few blocks away.

When I got to Moleski Service Centre & Auto Parts Store they inspected my car right away and guess what there nothing was wrong with my car. They inspected every stud in both front hubs all the lugs nuts torque out fine. I drove home and again had my husband re-inspect the tire’s lug nuts to ensure that they were indeed tight and he also could not find any thing wrong with them either. I don’t know what your company is playing at but I am going to inform anyone and everyone that will listen to me. I have written to our local paper and also have contacted The Fifth Estate, CBC Television. I think this would make an excellent informative television piece. I have it in writing from you service manager, Jim Euteneier, at the Canadian Tire North Store that and I quote “There is a problem with all of the front wheel studs. They will not torque correctly. The wheel nuts continue to turn as we try to tighten them. There may be a possibility that the wheel studs are stripped in the front hubs. Cust has to have the car towed away because she refuses to have repaired at Canadian Tire” and a copy of the receipt from my mechanic stating that “check front wheel studs – tightened ok”.

I think that it is appalling that a customer should have their car held hostage to your demands. I get a sinking feeling in my stomach every time I think about the experience your place of business has put me through. I was at the mercy of your mechanic and would have had no way to prove that the work they “said needed to be done really needed to be done”.

Totally upset and humiliated

Who are our “Advocates” ? Canadian Tire Edmonton west, not only held our truck hostage but Stereotyped us, humiliated us and finally charged us 1700.00 dollars later for a part that they “said” they had. My husband told them what he needed a “ Specific” part replaced but, “ Richard” (the service guy) “juiced” us by fixing things that weren’t necessarily an issue but enough to stop the breaks and vehicle from being road worthy. We waited for four days for a vehicle that now smokes in which; the service manger ( Corey miller) Says,” Nothing is wrong with a smoking truck wheel and squealing breaks” he said it was my husbands fault, didn’t even want to test the vehicle while still on the lot! All I know is I will never ever support anything that has to do with Canadian tire! I will also be sure to tell my bloggers to boycott anything associated with this organization.

My Car is currently being held hostage at the South Canadian Tire in Lethbridge, AB. They quoted me $2000 to have their long list of problems fixed. The funny thing is it drives fine and to replace the things they say is wrong would cost me $100. They won't release it to me because I am not a licensed mechanic, and they will only let it leave the building if it is towed or fixed.

It's true that they hold your car ransom - I recently had taken my van in for an inspection and fitness report and ended up waiting for almost 4 days till they got the parts and "fixed" the air-suspension. I had an inspection report done from Canadian Tire, Ontario 6 months before and they said the van was fine.

I have ran into issues at the North Canadian Tire store as well. Up until 3 years ago, the staff seemed accomodating & helpful. The issue which bothers me most isnt completely their fault, but the arrogance was upsetting.
I purchased over the telephone with my Visa, a mountain bike from the South store in Regina. I live 6 blocks from the south store & usually do my shopping there. I was out of town & unable to pick up the bike until the day after the sale expired, thus the phone purchase. When I went in to pick up the bike, the sporting goods staff informed me the only bike they had left, of that model, was a "parts" bike. It was not complete & they could not fill my order, but the North store had 6 of this model bike, still in stock. The savings on the bike was $150. When I went to the North store & explained the situation, showed my receipt for the purchase & had them contact the south store, (who had "supposedly" already called them with the situation), the manager of the sporting goods department told me "thats what you get for shopping at the South store... no we will not honour the sale price, if you want the bike it will cost you the full retail $350." Being a former employee of Canadian Tire South, I know stores move product between each other - honoring sale pricing to help fill raincheck & sale orders. When I mentioned to the manager that the south store could request him to help them fill their order & then they would be shipping the bike by courier to the south store (albeit at the south stores expense), & I am here now, which would make it easier, his reply was " I would refuse to fill that requisition, so if you want the bike its $350." Needless to say, I returned to the south store & obtained a refund.
Having worked in retail I understand customer service & you get farther when treating people with respect. I was not at all confrontational, abusive or ignorant during any of our conversation & I patiently waited while the manager dealt with other issues before me. I have absolutely no explanation for his arrogance. I can assure you his attitude will keep me from shopping there for many years.

Canadian Tire higher price for gas

I am a canadian tire customer. I shop at your stores and use your gas bar towards a two cent gas saving, as I have the advantage gas card. Over the last month I have been checking the price of your gas compared to other gas servers. I have been calm and patient with regard to what I uncovered. I do not know whose fault what I found, but hopefully it can be resolved for all customers like myself, who figure they are saving money by purchasing gas with your gas advantage card. We'll I feel that people are getting ripped off or you are gouging your customers. I don't want to get carried away with what I uncovered, so I will just give the facts of a couple of instances of what I am trying to get across. On sunday, September 21/2008, gas at your station was 118 per litre. I drove around in the area, no more than a mile to a mile and a half and found gas at Shell, plus other not so well know gas stations selling at 115.8 a litre. On Wednesday, September 24/2008 your gas was 116 a litre. Shell and several others were 113.9. I purchased gas from your company on that day and regret I did. I figure I was saving money by using my card, I guess not. I am better off paying cash for my gas or using their conpanys card. I do not know who monitors your companys competition gas prices, but whoever is should put a more respondsible effort into it. Presently as of yesterday I have no intention of using my gas advantage card or purchasing gas from your company until this issue is resolved. I feel like your company has been cheating me for the years that I used my card. Do you blame anyone from becoming angry after uncovering something like this. I still believe and many more of your customers would certainly agree that you match the lowest price of gas within a mile or two, and yours should be the same, or better still point something lower. Do you want more customers or do wish to contiue to lose them. Like I mentioned above I will not purchase gas from Canadian Tire until this issue is resolved. I would sooner drive the extra mile or so to know that for sure I am actually saving money on my gas purchases. Hopefully this issue can be dealt with quickly as I do not have anything personal against your company as a whole, but this kind of thing makes me think I am being robbed as a valued customer. I will await for a reply from, I guess one of your reps or spokesman on this matter. I truly hope it can, as I do not wish to expose it any more than what I have done. Try to have a wonderful day and I will wait to hear the outcome and hope the correction will be made.
Thanks so much for listening to my complaint.
We will talk soon.

I stood at the pump and pressed the lever and tried to put the tab down so it would pump itself. It didn't work, I tried again. This took no more than a few seconds and when I looked at the meter it read $11.47! I was certantly not even there long enought to pump that! Maybe $1.47. I called the police and they say that the vidio camer does not focus on the price and if the computer says so I have to pay! I know for a fact that if you look you can see I wasn't at the pump long enough to puimp that! Canadian tire, you have lost a customer for life.

Never heard of that happening before. All pumps, scales, meters etc are regulated by law and must be working correctly. I'm not sure who you complain to, but I would suspect that if you look hard enough, you could find out who calibrates that instrument and how to get your money back if it was defective.

I am in Oshawa and have not seen that much of a difference, but, i do know that the pumps are usually about .2 cents higher. (e.g. 99.9 while others 99, 7)
I also have the gas card and wonder if it is in my best interest to have one. My car takes 45L from 1/4 full when i fill up. I fill up 3x a month.
Save : 45 x .02= .90
45 x .05 =2.25
In order to save that 6.75 i must spend 500. each month. If i do not pay all of it off at the end of the month i will pay that much back in interest. I also shop a lot at the store.

Well not defending any actions but just wanted to clarify one thing. This is how gas sales work in Alberta anyway: Lets say a tanker comes and fills the tank with gas meant to sell at 116.00 a litre as an example. The gas station must sell all of that gas at the 116.00 even if the new price is 110.00 litre now before they can put down the price. I just learned this recently from a professor so this might explain the discrepency.

Canadian Tire automotive service

I and my Mother took her 2001 Focus into Cdn. Tire because the parking brake was not working. Car was dropped off at 10:15 in the morning. Cdn. Tire did not call my cell to give us a price for repair until 1:45 p.m. At that time they told us the price would be $1065.89. We were in shock and rushed as quickly as possible back to the shop. Cdn. Tire said there was other things wrong with the car, like the rear breaks needed shoes, there was a leaking break cylinder and a front bearing needed to be replaced. They rushed us because it was now nearly 2:30 in the afternoon. My 72 year-old mother authorized them to work on it, trusting them, that they were not ripping her off. Two weeks later, the parking brake failed. At that time, I looked the bill over thoroughly and realized that although they worked on the car for 2-1/2 hours, they charged my Mother 7-1/4 hours labor which was $635.31! I have been fighting with them all week to refund my Mom the 5 hours labor they stole from her! I have been lied to, yelled at, avoided and put off, in a word abused in my battle to protect my Mother! I went to the Ministry of Government services site and read that they have to explain labor charges and how they are calculated on the invoice. Canadian Tire just says they have implemented the "Mitchell" system of pre-determined hours for a job and that is just the way it is, too bad so sad. Well, My Mom, my family or anyone I know has heard of this system and it was not explained on the bill. I'm not sure what I will do next, but Cdn. Tire should not be able to get away with this scam! They are the most hateful group of people I have ever run across and are determined they won't give an inch. No one would care that my 72 year old Mother, on her old-age pension, will have to find a way to pay for all this work and labor hours that were never put in... not to mention a corrupt system that allows a 2-1/2 job to be billed as a 7.14 hour job!

Any advice would be appreciated!

You apparently lack the knowledge and ability it takes to make it in what most people call, "Reality", better known as, "The Real World". Just for your own knowledge, the flat rate system is used by shops all over the world to ensure everyone is charged a fair price for all work based on accepted industry labour times. The actual time to do the work is irrelevant. Perhaps next time you are in a Canadian Tire store picking up some corn cob pipes or maybe some turkey jerky to feed your illicit children, maybe you would like to stop by their tool department and pick up a tool kit so that you can experience first hand what a pleasure it is to repair an ageing, decrepit hillbilly mover like a Ford Focus while at the same time being so wonderfully appreciated by the Rube owner who clearly has a lower I.Q. than she does teeth.

Just one other thing - if you drop off your car and their shuttle service is not available, they can call a cab for you and they can give you a charge slip so you don't have to pay for the cab. A friendly cab driver told me this because he was surprised I was paying cash.

This is an old thread but just an FYI to the folks out there:

My brother in law is a mechanic. He said that the system car repair services use take into account that mechanics work on the cars without power tools. Of course even the smallest of shops use power tools. That's why they can bill you 7-1/4 hours for 2-1/2 hours actual work.

I think all car service companies do this. Unless you have a friend mechanic who does work on your car outside the shop, you're out of luck. My car gets serviced by my brother-in-law in his garage and you could actually see his hours are much less than what car service companies estimate.

Thank You all for the very concise reports on price, repair and service. I was honestly just going to take my car there to have the brakes inspected, and most likely have new pads installed, but after reading the comments and stories, not only will I not be EVER taking it there but I will make sure to pass on the message to everyone else I know.

Sorry that I had to learn from your hardships though :(

I had the most miserable experience with the Canadian Tire Auto Service Department at 1200 Seguin Drive, Coquitlam, BC [protected] today, Wednesday, November 19, 2008. I had a complete front brake job done (rotors, calipers, shoes and hoses) for about $1000.00 two weeks ago and again, they dinged me triple the amount of labour that it took. The labor was more than all the parts that were installed ($600 plus dollars). Well, after this job my truck is now pulling to the left, which it didn't before the brake job. I tell the service manager there at 9 AM (some Oriental guy who has a manger sign on his shirt) that I got a $1000.00 brake job there and now my truck is pulling to the left. He brings up my work on the computer and then immdiately says that it will cost me $30.00 to look at it. I was amazed! I said to him, " You want me to pay you $30.00 to look at my truck because I now have steering problems after the brake job done at your store?". He had already printed out the work order and was pushing for me to sign the repair slip so he could ding me more money. His attitude was so smug, like he already had my money and ha-ha, sucks to be you reply. I almost jumped over the counter to punch this creep out. I demanded that he look at it and let me observe so I can see how good the job was. He refused, and so I asked to speak with the store manager. The store manager then came and backed up the auto manager (at the time telling me to contact the BBB, if I wasn't happy). Canadian tire will never get another dollar of my business ever, they are so-o-o-o rude! Canadian Tire sucks, never go to their auto service, unless you want to get ripped off! CANADIAN TIRE SUX, especially the store in Coquitlam at 1200 Seguin Drive, Coquitlam, BC [protected]...

Canadian Tire parts service

I purchased a Yardworks cordless 24V lawnmower last year at Canadian Tire and the battery went dead after one season. I have been trying to purchase one all summer and the poor customer service at their parts supplier is astonishing. After the purchase by phone I was informed two weeks later that the shipment had been turned back at the boarder (I live in the U.S.) due to them using the wrong method. It took them one month to attempt a reshipment and now I am still waiting for my battery. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO MOW MY LAWN ALL SUMMER. When I called to complain they said there is nothing they can do for me.

I WILL NEVER USE ANY PRODUCT FROM YARDWORKS OR CANADIAN TIRE AGAIN.

Canadian Tire scam service

Canadian Tire advertised a three day special last weekend. They were offering an oilchange with sythetic oil and a filter for $29.95.

I live near Sechelt, but I planned to be away in Vancouver for the weekend. I aksed the stor in Sechelt if I could purchase the special in North Vancouver and get the oil change is sechelt when I returned home. They indicated that this would not be a problem.

When I went to the Canadian Tire store in North Vancouver on the Friday of the sale, I was told that they had not received their card vouchers for the oil change. I spoke to the General manager and he gave me his card and initialed it with the comment "Valid for Formula 1 100% synthetic L.O.F. at $29.99" on the card. I paid the required amount plus taxes.

I went to Sechelt store for my oilchange and was told I would have to go to North vancouver because it was store specific.

I complained bitterly to both the Sechelt and North Vancouver stores to no avail. Now I must make a special trip to North Vancouver to receive the service for which that I paid.

Canadian tire (Cambie & 7th) car repairs screwed up my car. I went in to fix my brakes because it had a small issue with getting harder when it is cold.

Day 1: They told us that they had to change the brake booster $800. Sure. We paid for it. We didn't know much about cars. We trusted them to fix it.

They worked on it and we drove around Vancouver for LESS than 30 mins and we almost got into an accident because we could not press on the brakes. We had to get it towed.

Day 2: They refunded us HALF the towing money because "OH, the brake boosters are not linked to this 'front brake hoses, both left and right'". Please pay us $100 for it.

Fine. We paid the $100 because we trusted that they fixed it.

Day 3: The SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. Just 15 minutes into the drive. This time, we were on a high way when it happened. We had to get it towed AGAIN.

We did not return to Canadian tire to fix our car again because we know they will screw it up and charge us wayyyy too much money for a such a small problem.

Canadian tire is known nationwide and the LEAST they can do is make sure your car runs properly. We are not going to a random mechanic in the city. Canadian tire makes us pay $100/hour for labour.

Our new mechanic told us there was no need to change the brake booster first, but to check the lines and the brake caliper before fixing the big stuff.

I think giving Canadian tire one star is being generous. They deserve a negative 5 stars.

We will be follow up on this and make sure Canadian tires does not screw us over with money and cause accidents.

Canadian Tire cheap bike

After only having a bike for a month several items were not working; brakes, gears, handle bars loose, paint peeling, and many other things, took the bike in to get repaired and they said it was because we were to rough on the bike. Then they did fix it and when we brought it home there were other problems that did not exsist until they had it. And I also got charged for labour for them to fix something I only had for 1 month. So I took it back again the same day to get other problems fixed and said I just want it returned, and of coarse they said it was policy not to return any bikes, so my advice to others is to buy your bike at a store that a warranty policy you know is going to work. I will never buy another bike from Canadian Tire!

In the last 5 years I've bought 3-4 bikes at Canadian Tire, but I will never buy another one. My current bike is a cheap mountain bike, cost $99.99. I know with such an inexpensive bike you can't expect stellar quality, but I noticed a problem with the front brake and the gear shifting on the same day I bought it. There is NO EXCUSE for this, for a brand new bike to have these problems, because it's 100% the fault of whoever built it. Canadian Tire puts no pride into the products they assemble, they just throw them together and put them out on the sales floor, whether or not they're put together properly or not.

If you don't believe me, just take a look at the bikes they are selling. A large number of them have obvious problems like brakes not working well, gears slipping, wheels wobbling, handlebars or seat not tightened... ALL OF THESE THINGS should not be happening if they took the time to build and adjust them properly before putting them out in the store. CT is a joke, and the next bike I buy will be a more expensive one at a proper bike shop that takes pride in their products, not another piece of garbage from Canadian Tire.

OH MY GOD IT'S KELLI quickly everybody else doesn't matter fix it and tell everybody else to go away. My 14 year old spent his own hard earned money on a new bike from Canadian Tire at the end of May. Four days later the pedals were falling off and the the chain was squeeking. We took it back and the cutomer service department wanted us to leave it with them for a week for repairs. My husband said that he was not leaving the store without a new bike. He got the new bike after about an hour of arguing. Two weeks later the bikes chain broke and the gears would not work. We took this one in for repairs. I have talked to several staff and management who all reply, "we're waiting for parts, we'll call you when it is finished". - and - no one ever calls. It is now the end of July and my 14 year old is out his $279.00 and still has no bike to ride for the summer. We will never, never, never, buy from Canadian Tire again, and, will discourage anyone else from doing so. Were did customer satisfaction go?

Canadian Tire does not work / ct shirking responsibility for selling faulty product

Bought the Yardworks Cordless Electric Lawnmower at end of season last year, used it twice this year (could barely cut the grass and would not hold a charge, and now it won't do anything though the light indicator on the side of the mower says that it's fully charged. In other words it's a lemon. Tried to return the mower to Canadian Tire but of course they gave me the popular song and dance of shirking responsibilty for the product and basically telling me to contact the manufacturer directly. It's obvious this product is faulty judging from the growing list of complaints found on the web. Canadian Tire should own up to the products it sells and if they are faulty, then return the money to the people who bought the piece of junk! Tired of being kicked in the groin by "customer service"! Enough already.

Do not buy any cordless electric Yardworks products from Canadian Tire. The batteries only last two years, then Yardworks makes you buy a new charger. Then you have to get the whole mower checked out by one of their "authorized" repair centers, who charge you $25 just to look at it. In all, I spent over $200 for a new charger and a new set of batteries. Guess, what? Two years later, it's not working again! The attitude of Canadian Tire, Yardworks, and repair shop is disgusting. They are all scamming the consu er with shoddy product. The just lost a customer!

Both my brother and myself bought a cordless lawn mower by yardworks from Canadian Tire last yead and when we tried to charge the batteries this spring, both chargers would not work. We tried to get some new chargers from Canadian Tire, but you can only get one if you buy the battery with it. We now have two usless mowers unless we spend the extra money to buy a new battery which we do not need!

Canadian Tire no return/store credit

I purchased a 'supercycle burner ds' (Product# [protected]) from a canadian tire in halifax the second week of june of 2008. It was $199.99 at the time, I also purchase a helmet 'a schwinn wid artemis helmet' (Product# [protected]) at the price of $27.99.
Now I moved at the end of june to a new apartment and in the move I lost the origanal reciept. I did have the on tag the comes with the bike and unfortunatly didn't have the warrinty either.
Just 2 days after purchasing my bike I desided to ride it work (The purpose of the whole thing to same $$) and when I came off a side walk to the road the back black part that holds the chain and is attached to the rear wheel came off. Now I am not an aggressive biker by any means I baby my possesions very much. So the bike sat in my apartment of a month. I then moved and left the bike in my spare room in my new apartment.
I thought about trying to sell it-but came to a conclusion that I wouldn't get a good enough price for a broken bike.
My brother from alberta (A former canadian tire mechanic!) came down to visist me and told me that we could go and at the least get an in store credit for the bike and helmet.
So we took it to the canadian tire that I bought it at. First thing the girl at ustomer service asked us if we had the reicpt and I said 'no' and she came back with "well that's going to make it impossible" she then turned her back to us and tryed to get a hold of a manager. I found her extemely rude and that started my blood temp to get a tad warm. While she tried to comtact an on duty manager one came back from lunch. She told him what I had asked (About a instore credit) and he asked if a reciept was present and she told him no and n warrinty either. He told her (Didn't even try to comunicate with me or my brother) that there was nothing that they could do and that he was just finishing his lunch break!
So I asked if I could speak to a different manger—one that maybe cared about the whole "custom service thing" and she continued to call the "manager" that had just came through the door from his break—he told her that he was busy and didn't have time to come and talk to me-and to call the bike department!
At this point I had become extremely pissed off by the shire service.

A manager from the sporting department came down and again told me that if I didn't have a recipt that there was nothing they could do for me! My brother argued that he work for canadian tire for a year as a macanic and he could break one of his tools and replace it without a reciept! And that the least they could do is give me an instore credit. The bike was a canadian tire product—sold no where else in the world—a product that was from there store!

My brother contiuned to say that the least they could do was find the lowest price of both the bike and helmet and give me an instore credit! He too refused... Saying that he couldn't do anything with out the reciept.

I have worked in customer serivce for over 7 years and my brother, mom and I have bought a great majority of items as well as numerous gift cards from canadian tire and the service has always been great. I will say that I have never ever ever been treated sooooooooooooooooo horribly and have never been told that there is absolutly noooooooooooo way that nothing can be done. Now I know that there are procedures that each company goes by... Bbbuuuuttt there is always something that comes up and some times the procedures can! Be bent!

The service at the quinpool road location in halifax ns was the worst service that I have ever experienced in any place I have ever shopped in my life.
To say the least I ended up leaving the bike and the helmet in the line at customer service just to prove my point. I will also never ever purchase another item or gift card from any canadain tire ever again—that two goes for my mom and my very pissed of brother!

We will also spread the horrible experience to all we know and make sure that no one we know buys from that perticular location.

I am also on the hunt for the owner/ceo of that location to let them know what their managment team is doing and the totally awfull service (Lack there of) there are giving thier customers... So if anyone could help me with that I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks for listening to my complaint

Pretty much you sound like a spoiled brat. I have worked in the customer service industry for over 20 years and NO you are not justified for a refund for numerous reasons. Maybe you should (and I will type this in all caps so you can understand...) BLAME YOURSELF FOR NOT KEEPING THE RECEIPT, OR THE WARRANTY, ETC. ETC. TALK ABOUT MAKING EXCUSES AND BLAMING PEOPLE FOR YOUR OWN ERROR.

SERIOUSLY, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE - IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK AND BIG.

I agree to the last person to post. If I had been working that day I too would have laughed my butt off at you leaving the bike to make a point! ROFL, yeah, some point you made - that you are nothing but a twit! *sigh* would have been good for a laugh!

While it does seem like you got some rude people at that store, you have to understand that they're just following procedure. We're not allowed to give an in store credit without a receipt. They'll be out $100 because you didn't save the receipt.

This part:

"TO SAY THE LEAST I ENDED UP LEAVING THE BIKE AND THE HELMET IN THE LINE AT CUSTOMER SERVICE JUST TO PROVE MY POINT. I WILL ALSO NEVER EVER PURCHASE ANOTHER ITEM OR GIFT CARD FROM ANY CANADAIN TIRE EVER AGAIN----THAT TWO GOES FOR MY MOM AND MY VERY PISSED OF BROTHER!"

Would have had me laughing for the rest of the day. "The fool even left her/his stuff here!". You proved nothing except you don't know how to keep your cool and that you can be a big baby. You lost the receipt, your problem. Definitely sucks but how do they know how long you've had the bike? They don't! You have no idea how many idiots come in throughout the day and say "Uh, I've only had this for like...a month and it uh...it doesn't work" and then you open whatever it is (let's pretend it's a drill) and it's dirty as hell and we haven't carried it in years. It's people like them who ruin it for everyone else.

So in all, don't blame Canadian Tire, blame the idiots who ruin it for everyone!

You make it sound like your brother ran the place, he probably acted like it too. Just to let you know you can file for credit all you want for a broken tool without receipt and when the claim gets rejected your brother doesn't hear that because he is not the GM now is he. You really need to think things through like not being dumb and loosing the receipt.

I don't think you were treated rudely. Any person with some common sense would know if you purchased merchandise that would loose its value as soon as it leaves the store to keep the receipt. Duh. Any store or business can set out there own return policy. It is up to the consumer to protect themselves and ask the store what their return policy is. Don't assume all stores are the same. No company has to offer returns on any merchandise. Especially without a receipt.

I can relate to your story, there caertainly needs to be better customer service! We are also going thru certain issues with our local C.T.C store and I don't think you should treat your customers sp badly, beacause bad news always travels faster than good news.

Leaha,

I just read your comment regarding your experience at one of our stores. Sorry to hear that you weren't happy with the service you received. While I can't speak on the store's behalf, I am guessing that they were following our bike return policy which does not allow bikes to be returned if they have been removed from the store and ridden. Having said that, you should not leave feeling that you weren't treated in the way you would be expected to be treated. Our stores are independently owned and operated so I will forward your comments to the owner of the store and will also check to ensure the return policy is clearly posted.

Hope you reconsider your decision about shopping at our store.

Lisa

Canadian Tire batteries sold but no chargers to charge them!

I have a Yardworks grass trimmer that works on a 24v rechargeable battery. Problem is, the battery is still good but the charger does not. Funny thing is, Canadian Tire sells replacement batteries separately but not replacement chargers. In order to get a new charger I would have to purchase a new trimmer. I wonder if this is sly marketing and cash grabbing? I am very disappointed with Canadian Tire and have been many times in the past - both with the rude service staff and the cost and quality of their products (one small example - a cigarette lighter costs over $10.00 in 2008 - in 2007 it cost under $5.00. I will no longer shop at Canadian Tire.

I also found this odd... but CTC gave me a number to call and it turned out there was a product recall on the charger.
They are sending me a new charger in the mail... no hassle!

Canadian Tire lousy and sexist customer service

I visited the canadian tire store at centre mall in hamilton asking for assistance with a bathroom plumbing problem. The clerk, scott was arrogant, disrespectful and sexist. His response to me when I couldn't perfectly describe the plumbing problem was: "well all I know is that somewhere in the world there is a pipe with a hole in it that needs to be fixed" this was said with a disdainful and sarcastic tone. When I complained to carol, the store manager she chuckled and said:"oh that is just scott's sense of humour" I found this remark dismissive and condoning of his outrageous behaviour so I then called al cunningham (Who is a long way from richie's nice dad...) al said he was sorry and said he would "interview them" and also told me he has never had any complaints about scott before and he was a long time employee. I interpreted that to mean that I was somehow an isolated complainer whose opinion must surely be erroneous. This whole system strived to make me feel disrepectfed and my concerns irrelevant. I compare canadian tire to the home depot who give courses in home repairs to the outdated 1950's style customer service of this inadequate chain store, canadian tire where my friends, family and I used to shop at. Oh and by the way, mr cunningham didn't even bother to ask my name or contact information so I guess i'll just have to assume that he 'gave a good talking to to scott about the little lady who made a complaint'
I't's no wonder big name american stores like lowes are making it a success in canada
Booooooo canadian tire!

I found the same at the Brantford store. Rude assistant manager, and a Store Manager(Jason Adrian) that refused to come out and see me after repeated requests. Avoid that store at all costs. Lowes here I come!

I personally will not shop at the Canadian Tire located in Brantford. I have been treated poorly on several occassions at that location and experienced the same when talking to management. They rate a zero in customer service.
I have numerous friends who have experienced the same and will never set foot in the store again.
I recently shopped at Brantford's new Lowes and was impressed with the friendly, helpful staff. Clean, organized well stocked merchandise.
Shame on Canadian Tire. Thank you Lowe's for coming to Canada.

Canadian Tire very rude customer service

Found the Canadian Tire customer service very very rude.I bought a faucet for my kitchen sink, but it was too big and i decided to return it. since i was working I was not able to return it before 5 days that I pursued it. After common customer service questions, the customer service rep opened the package to make sure everything is in package. Then she took the faucet out of package and banged it so hard on the table. By doing this few water drops came out, she got so mad and accused me of not being honest. She was going on and on about it that how home i am not telling the truth! I explained it politely and tried not to interfere with what she was doing. She kept checking the manual and readind it for few minutes. I was standing and waiting for my money to be returned with my receipt in my hand. After a few minutes she started again, by telling me that she has to check it again since company might not take it back and... so on. I said, i never seen such a customer service, people returning the broken stuff! She said, it's because u used it! And she called somebody else to come and finish the return (she just could not handle it with nooo reason) a gentleman came, and I asked for manager. He claimed to be a manager, however, he did not have any name tag or title! I explained the situation. He said that he will talk to lady(still no apology yet). At this time phone rang, the gentleman went to picked up the phone (while there was another lady in customer service who could have done it). He gave me my money back while still on the phone and I left. That's how you will be treated in Canadian Tire in the following address:

You can't expect to be able to return something you've already used. Would you want to by things that other customers have bought and used? Since you're paying full price... probably not. Canadian tire won't let you return things that they can't sell when you are the one who damaged the item. If they did, they would go out of business, since so many stupid people try to scam the sales reps, who by the way are making minimum wage, and can't really be expected to care if you made a mistake, and want you're money back.

I agree, if you return something it helps to be completely honest. If they catch you in a lie they won't know what to believe and everything you say become suspicious. You have no idea how many people try and scam the custome rservice representatives on a daily basis. No one likes helping liers.

Well it says original condition on the back of your receipt and this is not as you used it so that is why you shouldnt have gotten your money, as for the weird behavior she was probably having a bad day.

Canadian Tire terrible service

In 2007 I purchased a car battery, I discovered that the battery does not hold a charge, I went back to Canadian tire Kanata Location, to inform them with my issue with the warranty and receipt papers, they tested the battery for 2 hours, and the test results that this battery is defective. At this time I was walking around the store and shopping from the kanata location. At that time I had moved into new house, and I was buying a lot of things, for the house to renovate etc... plus a GPS system $350 plus tools for the car that I never used yet etc... I used to spend over $300 average a week at Canadian tire location for over 4 months.

On the same day I spoke to customer service, at the auto-parts department. The manager claimed that he can not exchange it for me and he does not have another replacement battery, because another client was there on the morning of the same day and they searched for the same battery and they could not find it.

I stayed there for over that hour just calling for my rights to exchange the battery and reminding the staff of the Canadian tire policy for exchange and replace a defective battery. They refused to help me, because they do not have another batter in stock, I was told go to another location "Bells corners" they might have one or the "barhaven" location. I refused to believe that they do not have another replacement battery, for a brand of batteries that only Canadian tire have access to or owned by Canadian tire stores.

I went by my self the shelf of batteries, I searched carefully and then I found the same brand and model of the battery that I have. I called the manager and I pointed out the battery, and then I requested again to exchange the battery for me. Finally they did honor the Canadian tire policy, and they accepted my request to exchange the battery. The total amount of time and frustrations was over than 4 hours, from the minute I walked in with a defective car battery to the time they exchanged my battery. I continue to be loyal customer to Canadian tire, kanata location.

Later on I discovered that the second new battery was also defective and does not hold a charge. I went back again. At this time, as a repeated client for the same problem, I already know where the battery testing machine is and where how to connect it and test it. I went strait to the location where they test the car battery and I called on a staff member. A young employee with full of energy, hooked up the battery to be tested, and told be the that to come back in 2 hours.

I came back to find out, what I already know that this second battery is also defective and does not hold a charge either. A yellow sticker note was attached to the battery indicating that battery defective. I carried this to another near by desk to exchange it, but the have over 15 batteries is stock. I spoke to a manager at the car part service area. they requested my receipt. I looked for my receipt, I did not find it at that time. I went home, searched, and searched, I couldn't find it.

The battery receipt just disappeared. I went back to Canadian tire, kanata location, I spoke a manager there, he said sorry my friend I need you receipt other wise I can not do any thing for you. I continued talking to the manager. He offered me $10 for the battery and I will have to buy another battery. I did not take the offer.

He offered me something else, he said:" give me your battery, but take the top sticker from it, and keep it somewhere safe, and whenever you find your car battery's receipt you will come back and we will deal with it, because you really do not need the battery to clam your refund you need the top sticker number with the receipt that matches the same number of the sticker and I will deal with it." he added : "At the mean time I will you have to buy another battery and pay."

I did not feel that it is right to pay for another battery where the defective battery still under warranty. I told the manager please look into your records, search your database under my phone number, and you will see that truly I purchased the battery from your store from this cashier just two months ago.

The manager searched the database and truly under my name there is a receipt indicating that at the car service department, I have purchased a battery with all dates and number to validate my clam. With original receipt in the database, and the battery number is there, they refused to serve me and exchange the battery for me. We ended up the conversation at the point of, I buy and pay fully for another battery and they will refund me when ever I find my receipt. I agree and I took the offer.

After two defective batteries in a row, and some other client on the same day returning a battery, so I lost trust of buying batteries from the same Canadian tire kanata location, because I did not have good experience using their batteries at that period of time and this specific location. Do not you? I went a cross the street to a Wal-Mart store and I purchased 3rd batter in just few months. the Wal-Mart batter still doing very very good and I have no problem with it.

After few months, the Canadian tire battery is sitting in my garage. I decided to do something about it, either I recycle it or I look for the receipt before I do so. I searched the house extensively, for two days. I found the receipt. Great. I went back to the Canadian tire location in Kanata. I called for the store manager and a tall manager with name ADAM came, I spoke to him, he investigated the receipt carefully, he verified the numbers, and he found that I am in title for another battery, I told him that I have bought another battery from Wal-Mart, and exchanging it does not do me any good.

He said:"bring me the Wal-Mart receipt and I will give you full refund."

I said: "Are you sure?"

Adam Said: "YES! I need a receipt to photocopy it and to show them a proof of purchase." He pointed his finger up, and he looked up while he is saying this to me. I understood that he wants a proof to show his superiors that he is doing his job properly. I agreed, I left very happy, on Monday June 2nd of 2008, at 6:30PM. I came back on the June the 3rd, the next day and I asked for Adam, the store manager. Some one else with name ALLAN, shorter than the manager that I met on Monday, I said: "Sir, I was here yesterday, it is a really long story, I want to cut it short, If you can call the other manager Adam for me please?"

He said ok, he called ADAM, on the phone and ALLAN, started harassing loudly ADAM on the Phone, saying loudly: "I told you that you can not do this."

ALLAN added : "NO! NO!"

and then ALLAN said to ADAM on the phone :"I AM YOUR MANAGER, YOU DO WHAT I TELL YOU TO DO!"

and then ALLAN added: "YOU CAN NOT DO THIS!"

ALLAN hanged up the phone and ALLAN turned up to me saying:"So, this is the mysterious Battery receipt that all the sudden surfaced up?"

I said :"Well, I had to search the house for two days, because I needed this issue behind my back."

Allan said: "I am the Store Supper Manager and MY decision will over rider Adam's decision and this battery will be refunded, it will be exchanged."

I said: "well sir, by doing so this battery does not do me any good. because I have no use for it, Would you please honour Adam's verbal agreement yesterday, and refund it to me, I do not care if the money was Canadian tire money, I would like to spend the same amount of money in your store. but not on battery."

He said that : "there is no difference between the Canadian tire money and real money!"

Yhen I said but what Adam had told me yesterday is different and it means that it is do-able that you can refund batteries.

He said:"Yes, it could be done, that is a special treatment, but you do not look like special."

Then he added asking me: "Do you want to be treated special?"

I said :"Yes! I am a good client to Canadian tire".

Then I listed few expensive items I purchased of the kanata location, including $350 +tax GPS system and $100 tools, and list went on and on etc... I told him you see some service was done on my cars. He searched the database and he said : "Yes, I see your name, $100 on this car, $150 on another car ..." He started shaking his head and adding in very sarcastic way:"NO, NO, HA HA HA !" and then:"What is this $100 here and $150 there not good. not good at all, NO! NO, HA HA HA!"

I finally decided to take the new battery but continue to call for ADAM's decision and the Previous manager decision which is when ever I find my receipts I will receive full refund.

Thank you,
M.F.

Canadian Tire dishonest and rude

The following letter contains events that happened at the Canadian Tire south, located at 2510-50 ave. Red Deer, Alberta.
On April 26, 2008, I brought my PT Cruiser in to this location to take advantage of the “deal” at Canadian Tire where I purchase tires and receive a free wheel alignment. I received the tires. Terry Hogan put them on and also made the deal with me. First, I was lead to believe these tires were priced at 89.00 each- I paid 97.86 each. I also paid for the labor and other things until the bill came to 518.97. I didn’t expect that but I paid it. I was then told that I would have to bring my car back for the wheel alignment. Three days later I’m still trying to get it into the shop (after traveling 2 different days into Red Deer from Bentley, hoping they would fit me in somewhere). I tell “ Dan”(the name he gave me- @ 22 years old, very rude) that I put a lot of miles on my vehicle and would like the “free” wheel alignment done. He finally told me to bring it in at 3 pm. I did so and met “Dan”. He told me my alignment would take 2 hours (Terry told me ½ hour). I told “Dan” that “my” mechanic said it would take only ½ hour. “Dan” was not friendly. Fine- I needed my car done. He told me to pick it up at 5pm. I left him my cell # so “Dan” could reach me if there was any problems, etc. At 4:52 pm. He calls me and says that the Tie rods and the bushings need replacing (843.53$). I was just steps from the door of the store and went in and asked “Dan” how he figured that. “Dan” got feisty again. I ended up leaving without a wheel alignment, very embarrassed because of his tone (a couple of children were standing there) and he also told me I couldn’t have a wheel alignment until I got this work done. My car had just come from the shop and my mechanic told me that all I needed was new tires and an alignment. I had shopped around and found that Canadian Tire seemed to have the best deal and also I thought they would treat me well (there seems to be a problem when a woman goes to certain mechanics). I brought my car to my mechanic, again, he put it up on the hoist, again and said there’s nothing wrong- again. After missing days of work (because my vehicle is my job), no wheel alignment and spending way more money than I could afford---I am now writing to you. I usually don’t complain and I don’t know if you can do anything about this but I thought it was something you would want to know. My husband nor I will not shop there again.

Thank you for your time.

CANADIAN TIRE SOUTH, RED DEER
EXTREMLY RUDE FEMAILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT PARTS DEPARTMENT

Hi,
On May 05, 2014 at approximately 6 pm I came into the Canadian Tire south located at 2510-50 Ave. Red Deer, Alberta.to get my battery tested for the first time. I pulled up to the garage door and the guy opened the door and i drove my car into the bay and i told the gentleman to leave the car running incase my car did not start again, and he said okay as i made my way into the parts department to pickup a new battery for my car. There was a lady there in the customer service department and i explained to her that i needed a new battery and she took my name and the type of car and what kind of battery i needed etc.. Then i told her the car was inside the Bay and right then she freaked out on me and said why I drove in without checking in first, and i told her im sorry i just pulled up and the guy opened the gate and i pulled in, I was not awaire that was not allowed, She did not take that into consideration, She was not professional she was screaming at the top of her lungs for this mistake i had made even after apologising she did not calm down. Then she went to the shop and told the guy to get my car out of the shop and not to work on it and as i was making my way to my vehicle to sit on the drivers seat i heard her swearing at me, litterly saying the f word 3 times and i said she will not work on my car not even if i drive it outside the shop, They young guy said he will take a look at it outside and the lady from the front desk threatened him that if he touched my car she was going to tell Dan to get him fired and the guy said sorry buddy i cant risk that, Then i told the lady to give it to me in writing that she will refuse to not work on my car at all and thats when she started swearing at me and saying the F word and i said how dare you swear at me and she called the manager which was a young female also. she just told me to leave with the car and to come to the front to buy my battery. I came to the front purchased a battery and the guy said that they will not be able to replace my battery for me because they dont have time. I felt that he was lying to me hands down. Then i asked the lady that was swearing at me for her name and told her i was going to complain about her and she refused to tell me her name and threatened me that she has all my information with her, im not sure what that meant but i just was so mad that i left. I felt humilated and disrespected with the worst service my friend told me to just record her next time and put it on youtube which is a good idea.Im not sure how she can get away with treaing loyal customers like dirt and swearing at them and bossing them around. This is the first time i have ever made a complaint in my life i feel that she should never be allowed to serve a customer. I certainly would not wish that feeling on anyone what she had made me feel like. The whole staff need training in dealing with customers.

Nothing to do with this article what so ever but thought I'd share two stories of people that are full of crap.

1)So I'm working at a Canadian tire in Alberta in the auto parts department and to be honest i like the job for what it is as management here is excellent. So im helping a customer with brake parts when another guy just butts in and asks where are the spotlights and which would work best for him. So I tell him he has to wait his turn as it is not fair for the customer I am helping. Anyway he walks away and a few seconds later butts in again and said something like Well for gosh sake you could at least give me an aisle number so fair enough it takes two seconds to say a number as rude as he was being. So off he goes, low and behold he comes back and actually waits in lines for me to finish. I ask him if there is anything more that I can do for him and he says that the spotlights are not down aisle eight like I told him. So I walk over there to show him and point out the entire left side of the aisle is spotlights, and he has the nerve to say "Well these were not here before, I cant believe you would prank me like this". Anyway end of conversation I walk away.

2)Someone comes to me wanting to special order something, awesome we do that all the time and it is a painless process. So I ask him what he wants and he says he wants a full chevy 350 engine, I look at him as no canadian tire orders engine for over the counter use, hell I dont think any even order engines period. I unfourtanetly have to tell him no, he gets irrate and starts to explain that a "Canadian" Tire in the USA told him that any store could do it no problem. I am stunned as there are no canadian tires in the USA obviously, he later specifies it was in Montana. Anyway after telling him no repeatedly (If we had a supplier and he prepaid it would have been no problem, but there is no crate engines shops in the county) he walk away saying of course they dont honour what they say at another tore that would make sense.

Both of these people made me laugh as there actions are so stupid.

Canadian Tire play center

We bought a Bayside Play center at Canadian Tire. He had to wait at the store for over half an hour before anyone could locate this product. When the stock boy brought out the product my husband told him it did not look like the right one. The stock boy assured him that it was the right one and he had double checked the item numbers.
My husband proceeded to pay $1, 199 for the product and drove it home.
As we looked at the boxes, we discovered that we were given boxes from two different play centers that did not match, and neither one was the play center we had requested. My husband was very upset because in the store he had insisted it was the wrong play center and the staff brushed him off.
The store would not offer us any solution except to return the product on our time and money. We live over 100 kilometers away and had to borrow a friends truck, so to return it we had to borrow vehicle, spend money on gas, and waste our whole day. And they would not even give us a discount or store credit. They were so rude to us about it, and we will never shop there again.

It used to be clean and not a single drop under my car, My car has only 124792 km, I put my car on jack and went down an found that you Canadian Tire brilliant and extraordinary mechanic, forgot to tight the engine oil drain bolt. This is such a irresponsible and poor work which could cost me thousand of dollar. If I lose the bolt on the highway.

Had the same thing happen to me at a Canadian Tire in Guelph ON (Stone Road store). After noticing the oil I checked and found the drain bolt loose, so tightened it, went ti store to complain, after some back and forth they gave a voucher for a free oil change.
Like the poster stated, had it fallen out the engine could be ruined. My car was only 4 years old with under 80000 kms at the time, pretty new to ruin over a drain plug!
Honestly, I like CTC as a store but think that you are taking a big risk having any mechanical work done except for tires, I have heard SO MANY horror stories that it is hard to believe.
