Birch Communications High Fees, Nonsense Practices, Dollar you to death

Had AT&T Business Landline. Switched to Birch. Only stayed three (3) months and went back to At&T! Asked to move phone across the street to another building but ended up paying for two separate lines instead of one. Received fees because I did not CALL in 30 days (after faxing) the paperwork to move the line because they require a verbal phone call to verify that this is the correct action to take. AT&T ported the number too soon (within the 30 day written notice) so they NOW want a $200.00 early termination fee. Every time I called to add any type of service, there is a $10.00 charge, or a $6.00 charge. I would have been money ahead to have stayed with AT&T, paid the higher fees and NOT dealt with these people. Horrible experience! Do not recommend Birch Communications to anyone!

I have had the same problem with Birch. I had to close my business and now they are trying to charge me all kinds of fees and have not cut my service off yet. And please do not think that Laura in the above comment will contact u back. I emailed her and still have not heard from her or anyone else at birch. They are a ripoff and they need to be reported to fcc.

I moved from AT&T to Birch I called and asked to cancel they told me to write a letter which I did. They now are claiming I owe $1900 for cancellation fees and it has been a nightmare collectors are making threats now and very rude. They said I could not call first that it breached my contract and I should have only sent a letter. Lady threatened me and for her information I had a fire and lost my business but I still have all my recordings and I have hers. I would never want to deal with this again.

Birch Communications Misrepresents Contract...Stuck....

Birch Communications... RUN! Don't even call them asking questions. I did, and somehow ended up with them saying I had agreed to their contract, and if I don't want the service it will cost me $1200! Even though I didn't, and it wasn't even installed! So after much back and forth, I went with it, and they have been charging me all kinds of outrageous fees I knew nothing about ever since. I've made numerous phone calls trying to figure it out. Supposedly they put my account in review, and in the mean time, they cut service off to my business! Then charged me $40 and made me pay the entire amount in dispute before they would put service back AT MY BUSINESS! Horrible customer service.

Birch Communications Deceptive sales practice

I called inquiring about internet service. Next thing I know, they've delivered internet box and sent tech to wire it! When I called saying I didn't say I WANTED it, as I had asked they fax a copy of my current phone contract to me first, they argued and said I had answered YES to their quesitons, when even their recording shows I had asked for the fax first! When I said cancel it, they said it would cost me over $1000! So, they "discounted" a few things, only with every bill I find they're trying to sneak in charges. Extremely frustrated and highly recommend not even calling this company!

I recently switched from Birch Communications to AT&T because AT&T gave me the same price as Birch, BUT add free internet, saving me $50 per month. Birch is trying to charge me a $450 termination fee. I am fighting it but though other people should know what they do. They say their charges are valid but it seems to me that they are just mad and want to get back at me. The representative all but admitted to me that they were upset that I had switched carriers and this was my punishment for leaving them. I told them they could not hold me hostage.

Stay away from Birch! Very underhanded way of doing business. Lindsey contacted me by phone the next day and said that the early termination fee had been waived. Guess I'll see when i get the final bill. Below is a copy of the email I sent Birch, pretty much explains how they were wanting $350.00 for a so called early termination. I did have a contract for 24 months, which had expired. I liked 2 months being a costumer for 3 years.

This letter is in regards to the termination of service of 205-668----- and 205-668----- attached to account # 5------4. As of 11/08/2016 I hereby terminate any and all business dealings with Birch Communications. I also dispute any so called agreement that I am told that I entered into after the initial 24 month contract. I have no problem with paying for services that I have used, but I will not be extorted for money that I do not owe. I was told by Lindsey that she could not produce any document or recorded conversation of me agreeing to any automatic contract extensions, but that she could reduce it to 75% if I would agree. We continued to discuss that I did not have a contract, when she asked if she could reduce by 50% would I agree, again I said no that I wanted to see or hear this automatic contract, again she offered to reduce to 25%. Is this is not extortion, trying to make me pay for something that I do not owe? This is very bad business and I would be very hard pressed to ever refer Birch Communication to anyone. I can now see why there are so many complaints about Birch on the internet.

BIRCH DID THE RIGHT THING.
THE BAD PART -- My mother, now 85, received a call from Birch Communications; they claimed to be with AT&T, her phone company. She was distracted (just heard she had cancer) and agreed to their services. Then backed out. Got bills totaling nearly $600 in penalties.
THE GOOD PART: BUT when I contacted Birch and advised them of her later double mastectomy and family health issues they pulled this out of the fire. Canceled everything, no collections, no penalties, profuse apologies. I thank them for that and encourage you to speak to Customer Service and be professional. It might work out fine. (Also: I have NO other connection to this company. My comments are unsolicited and absolutely valid. Dennis Porter, www.drawme.com 2013.)

Haven't even started my service with Birch and already ready to go back to AT and T. Thought I was already switched over because I got a bill (and paid it) and thought I was up and running. That of course is in fantasy land. They did the switch over today and do you think that someone could advise me that I could go with service for up to 48 hrs. NO! Then of course you have the left hand that doesn't know what the right hand is doing. "you have to call AT and T" the AT and T says you have to call Birch. It is 2016 one would think that this would be a simple task, but sadly no. Is there any other phone company that knows what they are doing! Now I have to stop and wonder what the phone bill was for...

I have been a business service with Birch since 2008. I moved my office and had to go with the phone provider of my landlord. They contacted Birch and stopped my service July 11th. I just received a new bill for service dated 7/15-8/14. I called and they said that because "I" had not contacted them I still owed them this bill (even though my service was disconnected 7/11) So they disconnected my service without "my" actual permission but they still billed me because they had not specifically talked to me. Note the hypocritical stance--they will disconnect your line without contacting you but they won't stop billing you for the service they are no longer providing without you contacting them. By the way--the service I was paying $79 a month for is now $29. Been cheated a very long time.

Old "One-Way Birch Communications" is all sunshine and happiness so long as money is flowing only in its direction, but when it's time for them to step up and refund a tidbit of money to a longtime, well-established customer, Birch shifts into a nonsensical, argumentative, and irrational mode.

We're leaving Old One-Way Birch behind ... after having been with it and its predecessor for about 17 years. Good riddance, silly Old Birch.

I don't wish to write another 24 words about Birch, so blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

I changed to Sage Telecom years ago and never had a problem, but now that Birch has taken over I'm really upset! We are "snowbirds" and Sage took us to a plan that only charged $24/mon. for the winter. I called Birch today and they said they would not put our phone on vacation (like Brighthouse does in Florida) and that the $48/month was their cheapest plan. I can't afford that on a phone that is not in use for 6 months, so I cancelled the service. What REALLY hurts is that I have had the same phone number for over 50 years and now I will lose it. It makes me want to cry. Birch's customer service person didn't care that they were losing a good customer. From reading the rest of these reviews, I think this company should go out of business and sell to a company that cares!

I was a cbyond customer for 3 yrs and birch acquired them.
I stayed on for one year with birch and then switched to Charter.
All my lines were ported over to charter.
To my surprise I received a statement from Birch 4 MONTHS LATER. They were continuing to bill me for service even though I was no longer a customer.
When I inquired with them they said they would remove the charges but never did.
After several frustrating calls I finally spoke with someone that promised to resolve the issue and get back with a final resolution in 30 days.
Almost sixty days latter I received a notice from a collection agency demanding payment of full disputed amount.
I made Several calls to Birch and was told they could not do ANYTHING with my account because it was turned over to collections.
Without a doubt, Birch is the most DECIETFUL, DISHONEST, Frustrating company I have ever dealt with.
I STRONGLY recommend not doing business with them no matter how good the offer sounds.
From the complaint thread its apparent that they screw their customers and will likely do the same to you.
I will tell EVERYONE I KNOW about my experience with them and I will tell them AS OFTEN AS I HAVE THE CHANCE!
I am taking this viral on social media and every outlet that I have to expose the corrupt nature of this company.
I'M PISSED!
I agree with City Girls post on July 2015 -there needs to be an investigation and a class action lawsuit filed against Birch!

I had service with CBeyond for 3 years before Birch acquired them.
I stayed on for one year and swicthed to Charter Business.
All of my lines were ported over to Charter but Birch continued to charge me, WITHOUT sending a bill for several months.
When I did finally get a statement from them I was shocked that they were still billing me and NOT actually sending a statement.
After several frustrating calls to resolve the issue I was finally told they would review and get back to me with a resolution.
Six weeks later I received notice from a collection agency stating that I own the full amount in dispute.
When I called Birch to find out why I never received a response from them I was told that thye couldn't discuss my account and had to work it out with collection agency.
I have attempted numerous calls to get some kind of explanation to no avail.
Birch is without a doubt THE WORST company I have ever dealt with!
They are dishonest, deceitful and a pain in the ###!
Do yourself a favor and stay clear of them!

Birch Communications Awful service

Birch communications had phone out on and off for 6 weeks! It is impossible to get the repairs done in a timely fashion, even after it was documented that the problem was with their internal equipment, computers, not with the actual lines to or inside my house. It was impossible to make long distance phone calls, caller ID did not work, now there is no dial tone!

Customer service leaves you on hold for up to 40 min (I gave up at that point as I was on a cell phone) and then when they answer, cop an attitude of why are you complaining!

To add insult to injury, they did not adjust the bill for all the time the phone wasn't working. I would recommend that NO ONE EVER contract with this company! They are AWFUL!

Birch Communications Stay away

If you thing their slamming practices were bad check this out: In the spring Birch Communications lost over 1000 business customers who promptly switched over to Closecall America. Since then Birch Communications has been looking to purchase Closecall America and has recently done so with the full intent of bankrupting a perfectly good, PROFITABLE, and reputable company simply out of spite. Now, a whole company full of hard working and happy employees is about to lose their jobs WITHOUT warning or compensation simply because this company has enough money to buy it to put it out of business. Birch Communications has had NUMEROUS complaints filed with the BBB, FCC, and a number of PSC's. They also filed Chapter 11 back in 2005 because they lost so many customers due to their shady tactics. Do yourself a favor people and STAY AWAY!

Birch Communications Sales

The complaint is not really with Birch Telecom, but with me. I was perfectly happy with ATT, but Birch seemed to have a better program that could save me money. I should have paid more attention to my termination clause with ATT. That has cost me money and it will take sometime to recoup my charge. I have no complaint about their service, but make sure you know what your contract is with ATT before you change. Overall I probably will not save any money with these guys. But, I have signed a three year contract will probably go back with ATT when done. But that is such a long time away. I will definitely wait the three years to change. Stories of Birch aggressively going about collecting terminated fees abound. Wsh I had seen all these complaints before I signed on. However, their BBB record is pretty good. Just one of those buyer beware things.

Birch Communications Thieves

I dont understand how a phone company can switch your phone services without your knowledge and start charging you. Once i got their bill i called my phone company and they said that what they had done was illegal and that i needed to call them to cancel their services and report them to the fcc. I called Birch and explained to them what was going on and that i didn't want their services. I thought everything was worked out, that was until i got another bill from them for $1750.00 for a termination fee. If they call you, be rude and hang up the phone. They will be hateful and charge you $2000.00 dollars for that phone conversation.

Birch Communications Employees lying to customers

Our office signed up with Birch 5 years ago and I had no complaints about the service. However, I was never told that they offereed DSL and so when we needed more than dial up internet, I called Birch and ask what my renewal date was. Was told that it was up for renewal on 2/16/2010. This person never even ask why I was wanting to change my service. Soooo, in January I faxed in a request to terminate on our renewal date of 2/16/10 and signed up with ATT. All was well, received my final billing and paid it. THEN 30 days letter get a notice that we owe $550 in early termination fees. Of course I immediately called and related what had happened and that their employee had quoted me the 2/16/10 date. They called me back and said yes I was told that 2/19/10 was the date for renewal, but that that was in error and we owed the $550. Ask why it was all my fault and they "said" that someone had called a few days after receiving my fax and left a voice mail stating that the renewal date was 2/16/11. Well I never received any such voice mail. But of course they were totally unwilling to work with me or make any concessions. Will tell everyone I know to stay FAR AWAY from Birch.

I was never told about a cancelation fee . They sent be a bill for $1000.00 because I cancelled thier service. I have called and informed them that and they refuse to change anything. They keep telling me that I agreed by a third party and I do not remember any such call. I have spoken to Sharyl Fowler and she was rude and very adament that there would be no changes. This is outrageous.. Talk about a rip-off. It should be my right to cancel when I desire. Where have our rights to be freedom to make our own choices gone?

Birch Communications Has no business being in business

Having been with Birch for more than a year I paid my bill two days late. I received a threatening cut off service letter for the late bill. I thought this was stupid and totally against any kind of descent customer service. I received an offer from ATT that had better rates and I switched. Birch sent me another late bill and a another letter stating I owed them $350.00 for a disconnect fee. These guys represent the greed that all Americans are tired of. Do not do business with them. By the way, the FCC is looking into this matter.

Birch Communications Fraudulent sales practices

I bought Birch service because the salesman promised em that I could disconnect if I didn't like it. It turns out that the taxes were not included in the sales price as promised, so I fired 'em and went back to AT&T. They are trying to collect a $400 disconnection fee -- I guess this is styled to make me want their service again?

Be careful with these guys -- full disclosure is not one of their strong points. The collection agency is getting fairly aggressive as of today, so I am trying another direction to get my disagreement with Birch settled.

Don't EVER go though Birch. I have been with them since 2001. At first, they were an honest and trustworthy company, but in the last year their practices have verged on the criminal. First, your bill is not even mailed to you until 6 days after the payment date, so they can attach huge late fees. Secondly, the phone at my business was disconected one month ago for the new owner. I made the mistake of assuming Birch would no longer bill me. WRONG. I was told I have to pay this months bill as well as next, because I did not contact them for cancelation. I asked if had I not called, would they continue to send a bill for the next two years or longer, and she said yes.
This is a desperate company, like so many others, will stop at nothing to take advantage of consumers for their benefit. I REPEAT, STAY AWAY.

Absolutely right on the head. I was contacted by Birch and they presented a billing proposal as if they were a billing agent for AT&T and also told me that I could switch back within the 1st 2 months without penalty and the 1st billing was higher than the quote. I am sending a certified letter today canceling their service and switching back to AT&T.
