Big Lots unethical behavior, misrepresented sales, and bait-and-switch pricing

8/20/2017: 8:30 PM
BIG LOTS: 11247 SW 40th St, Miami, FL 33165
Store #: 4528
Located in: Concord Shopping Plaza
Manager Name: Erit

unethical behavior, misrepresented sales, and bait-and-switch pricing.

I went in to the store for the Living Colors 40% select curtain panels sale. I Looked online for which curtains were on sale (84 inch) and selected those with a 140 inch rod and some other sale items and proceeded to the cashier. The first curtain rang up correct and then the other two did not. I asked the cashier to check the aisle because I picked the one on sale. The only difference between the two was the color, and both colors were supposed to be $7.20. The cashier did not speak english and I did not speak enough spanish, I flagged down a cashier walking by and asked if he could help. He rang up the curtains again and said that they were not on sale. I asked him to please check the aisle. He said no they are not on sale, and kept repeating himself. Then the girl laughed and they said rude insults because they thought I did not speak any spanish, but I spoke enough to understand. I asked them if they will call or wait for me to go get a manager that can help. Instead of paging the manager they said go find him. I went back and grabbed 3 more curtains marked $9 online. Then I found the manager and asked if he spoke english and he said yes and as he approaches the cashier he says, interesting I am just learning she doesnt speak english (about the cashier). He turns out not even the manager, but he listens to me and agrees the price is incorrect. He gets the manager, Erit. He comes and rings up the curtains and says the same thing the cashiers told me, who were laughing and sneering at me all the while rolling their eyes when I spoke. The manager had the same robot like response when I showed him the online promotion for 40% off and he said no it is not on sale. I asked him to check in the aisle and he came back with the sku bar which both had the same price with red clearance sign on it. He then said no see it is not same, different color. I asked him to please get 3 of the $7.20 and he went and came back with 1. He said no more, I asked to give me the price for the other color since he ran out and he said no no different color different price no sale for this. It was as if I was talking to a wall. I asked him why he keeps saying it is not on sale when it was clearly marked clearance (even when he grabbed the bar with the sku) and he just said no sale no. Then he said a racial slur and insult to the cashier in Spanish. At this point he was hopeless to try and reason with. I walked out and did not make any purchase. Extremely dissapointed and feel like my basic human rights were risked by shopping here. I am going to make sure everyone at campus on FIU knows not to shop there by spreading the word on campus.

Big Lots my experience working for big lots

I used to be a employee working at biglots, and by far I can say it was the worse experience I ever encountered working at any retail job; and I came from the mess that we all know as Macy's. The disrespect is just outrageous and this is coming from the store manger themself. Ever instruction or direction that was given from this woman was completely opposed by an action or a verbal mishap of communication all together. For example: I was told no matter how many items a customer has always call for back up if you have three or more customers waiting in your line. Of course, I did as I was told but was immediately backlash and insulted when she had to come to the register and DO HER JOB. This does not make sense... Same happen when a customer called on the phone and asked for assistance from a manger. Common sense would lead any employee to transfer the call, I was later paged back and told the call was consider foolishness and other people on the floor could have handle it. I never realized that at anytime helping a customer in need was declared as "foolishness."

Big Lots horrible customer service

Big Lots
755 W Craig Rd, Ste 140, North Las Vegas, NV 89032
Tuesday August 1, 2017
Approximately 4:30 pm

I went into Big lots to purchase some new things . I ran across a nice dinnerware set that was on Clearance $29.99 there were two boxes, however only one was marked clearance. The set included 4 plates, 4 salad plates, 4 bowl, and 4 cups.I grabbed the box marked clearance. I grab a couple other things and proceed to check out. I was greeted by rep Monica. She rang up my other items and when she opened the box to check the dishes to make sure they were okay we noticed that all 4 bowls were broken into many pieces. 2 of the cups were missing and also 2 of the salad plates were missing. Monica called a rep to see if there were any other boxes on the shelf. he came back with the last box . Monica opened the box and examined the dishes and they were all there in good shape. When Monica scanned that box of dishes it rang up at $39.99 she (Monica) says let me call the manager to get the over-ride because all these dishes were marked down clearance . She called for a manager and one came from outside off of break when she came over to Monica began to explain the issue and another Manager (Linda) walked up and the other manager walked off cause she said Linda could handle it she was hot from being outside. Monica explained to Linda the issue and Linda says ok. So i say what does okay mean, she says well maybe the box was missed on the clearance markdown i said Linda that's not the issue . The issue is that this box says $29.99 all the dishes are broken or missing and this box says $39.99 and they are the same exact dishes. She says well all i can do is sell you the pieces out the box for $2.50 a piece then walks away. Monica looks at me and says i don't know what she means i said its okay call her back ill talk to her. When Linda walks back up she says I'm only one person I can't be in everyplace at once, sighs heavy and says is it 4:30 yet. I said back to the dishes, that's not acceptable the majority of the pieces are damaged or missing. I asked if I can just have the other box for $29.99 she says, Like i said I can sell them to you $2.50 a piece or you can get the other box full price, walks away again. I tell Monica go ahead and take them off, i do not want them t all and as a matter of fact, you can cancel the whole order. I had almost $200.00 in merchandise not including those dishes but because of the way the Manager acted it made me not want to purchase anything .
I really wanted those dishes due to the fact i have been looking for them everywhere and surprised to see them at Big Lots. My desired resolution for this would be some type of coupon for these dishes if I'm not going to be granted the clearance price or some type of compensation towards the dishes. I feel as a manager she handles the situation very unprofessional and it showed she did not care.

Big Lots brown sunflower sofa and chaise

April 2016 I went into the Manteca store and bought a sofa that not even a year later started to fall apart. Attached are pics of a conversation between me and Bob trying to get this resolved that still has not gotten resolved. I still have a broken couch at this point I just want my money back.

He kept telling me someone will call me once my couch gets to the Manteca store. No one has called me.

Big Lots product damaged

I bought the big top living room set with a extra recliner in November last year. I contacted the Terrell tx store several time since the first of February and spoke to Teresa. The back of the recliner has springs sticking out of it. She claims she has contacted the company to order the replacement part of the chair several times and here it is almost August and I still have no replacement. I had told everyone how well the service was at the store and the furniture was durable beside this one issue. But I'm beginning to question myself on that. U spent 2000.00 dollars that day which includes a bed. What do I Do? I'm frustrated and having to set in a chair with a pillow so I'm not getting stabbed in the back by springs. PLEASE HELP

Big Lots hiring

My husband went to apply for a position yesterday at your Coral Springs store. Upon arrival and in front of customers, the manager said we won't hire your kind, meaning he was white. My husband said the guy he spoke to him a couple of days before was white. The manager said that's why he no longer works here. A couple of customers left their purchases and left the store saying they will go elsewhere. I cannot tell you how many EEOC rules have been violated. You shoul be ashamed of yourselves, treating people like this in this day and age. Reguesting action and response. The incident happened on Tuesday July 11, 2017.

Big Lots espresso 6pc dining set sku [protected]

I purchased this table set on Saturday and it was the only set in the store. The box was damaged but we purchased anyway. We assembled it on Sunday and used it for dinner last night. That is when we noticed the scratches in the table top. I am not sure if it is from the damaged box or not. I love the table set, but am very disappointed in the quality of it for the price I paid. This will be the last furniture purchase for me at Big Lots. Thank you. :(

Big Lots furniture customer service

I have been trying to reach someone about a store issue that I had with some furniture since June 25th. I purchased a living room suit and while it was delivered inside the plastic once it was unwrapped I noticed a gash in the leather material. I contacted the store where we bought the piece asking them for a repair kit. She said the only thing I could do would be to return the couch to the store to exchange it. I did not want to have to pay for redelivery for a new piece for such a small issue. The store manager did not want to offer me anything stating that I should have purchased an extended warranty which was not offered to me at the time of purchase. I have tried contacting customer service on three separate occasions and am being told that someone will contact me in 24 to 48 hours I have not received a call back yet since the 25th when I made the first call. I would not be recommending purchasing any furniture from Big Lots again we had intended on using them to furnish our entire home. After seeing the way they treat their customers and do business I would rather pay more money and shop elsewhere. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I was only asking for a $5 repair kit not any money off of the item or anything excessive.

Big Lots management

I'm in the Big Lots store a lot in Hobbs New Mexico. When I'm ready to check out and there's a line forming I hear the cashier call for backup but nobody shows up she calls again and still nobody. There's always only one cashier they're very helpful but they're only one person. Where's management when they need back up? Well I've heard and seen them talking and giggling together when they should be up there helping them check us out. We need better customer service from management in this store and there's a white tall man always on the computer where the furniture is at is that all he does who is he? Next time I'll ask who he is. Once again we need better customer service from management in this store. Thanks

The Shelby township Big Lots in Michigan at 23 & Van [censored] is also guilty of the same...lazy, rude, useless workers that don't take the NEXT customers in line who had been waiting 15-20 minutes to check out. When we complained, the BL employee ignored everyone waiting in the line. I left a $150 dollar cart full of items and walked out along with 2 other customers who won't patronize or tolerate that crap. I've spent a lot of money at Big Lots over the years as a loyal rewards customer. What happened today is enough to NEVER step a foot in a Big Lots again.

Big Lots colgate enamel health

6-27-17 @ 2pm
The Colgate(12pcs) had a price tagged at $1.50. When I got to the register to pay an employee said I can't sell you those, those are not for sale and I asked Why, Not? The employee said the correct price for those are $5.00. The store did not honor the price that was on the product. Big Lots employee's makes a lot of this kind of mistakes I have gone to other locations and had the same kind of issue. Big Lots should have a policy or rules to honor prices and support the consumers.

Big Lots serta mattress

I bought a king sized Serta Mattress set in Sept 2015. When I was debating this purchase I asked the sales rep about warranty. I was told that Big Lots would guarantee the product even though there had been issues with Serta backing up their product. Within a year the mattress began to break down and show where my 5'4" 140lb self slept at night. With a busy schedule I kept putting off contacting Big Lots. When I finally made the time, because the mattress was worsening and causing actual pain from the state that it was in, I called and was told that unless I had the reciept that nothing could be done. Of course, during the moving process the reciept had been misplaced. So I then contacted Big Lots via email to see if the transaction could be researched since it was a debit card transaction. I was told that if I could retrieve the transaction from my bank that it would benefit my issues with the product. So after a lengthy search at my bank it was found and a copy was in hand. I then was told that because it was over a year prior that Big Lots could not search for such a transaction and my copy wasn't proof enough of the product purchased. Even though the length of time was mentioned with the first complaint. Then I received a phone call saying the issue had been forwarded to a corporate office and I would hear a reply from them within a weeks time. That's been almost 3 weeks ago. I've emailed with no reply also. I'm terribly disappointed in Big Lots customer service, the products, and the general attitude of the employees. Please know that this story will be told to any and every person that I know of that shops in your stores.

Big Lots shipping by 18 wheeler also big lots in general

Ive worked for several department stores my whole life. Some examples are Walmart, Gabriel Brothers, and Cosco etc. I have to say the way Big Lots ships there merchandise is by far the worst i have ever seen. Instead of stacking the merchandise on to pallets nice and neat, with plastic wrap around each pallet. Big Lots just throws there cardboard boxes in the back trailer. Now dont get me wrong they try and stack the boxes as best they can, but by the time the merchandise reaches its destination atleast 30% of the merchandise is already destroyed or broken from all the boxes moving around in the truck while enroute. Plus when it comes time to off load the truck it takes a team of 6 people 4 hours to off load it. If they would just take the time to put the stuff on pallets and plastic wrap it, it would take a team of 2 people with pallet jacks 1 hour to off load. Ive never worked with such a disorganized company in my life. And believe me its not just the shipping part of it thats just the tip of the iceberg. The so called managers have no idea what they are doing and neither do the associates because big lots doesnt take the time to properly train anyone. Theres only one thing this company truly cares about and that one thing is making money off the customers...

I asked him where the object I was looking for was and he said he did not know and yelled across the whole store to another employee which gladly helped me.I made sure to get the rude and disrespectful young mans name. His name is Cordell.

Big Lots service complaint

The staff is lazy, rude, uninformed, and seemingly stupid.
I.e., Male Team Leader, Old White haired cashier, Stock woman, who is also cashier. They all seem Very complacent, like their jobs are guaranteed, no matter how they act or react! I have decided never to shop there again! Store located on Margarite Parkway in Mission Viejo Ca. I shopped there today and it seemed like they could have gone on without me as a customer. Whatever happened to Helpful, Smiles, showing interest.

Big Lots ceramic votive holders

I picked up 3 Ceramic Votive Holders on an endcap facing the entrance to the Rosecrans Ave location in Gardena; the price on the large sign was $5.16. This covered various objects which were turquoise and beach coral themed items. It was near closing time of the store (9:00 pm) and I brought the items (and additional items) to Ashley the cashier for purchase. I asked how much the ceramic pots were because the total sounded a bit higher than expected. She said they were $7.00 each but I stated and pointed to the sign where you can clearly see the price. She said it was suppose to be $5-$16 instead of $5.16 but I quickly responded with retail, you honor the price listed on the signage regardless of a mistake made by the store. She would not adjust the price. I was already interested in purchasing a $150 kitchen cart and/or a $30-$70 greenhouse (the reason for my visit) and was going to come back tomorrow for them but since this poor conduct of customer service received by this individual, I will not be coming back for either. This is unfortunate since I was assisted by 2 other sales floor employees that were very helpful.

Big Lots hoover dual power max carpet cleaner

I went to Big Lots store #4350 in Escondido this evening, where I purchased a carpet cleaner at for $79.99. The box was retaped, as were ALL of the other boxes on the sales floor. So I grabbed the box that looked the least damaged. When I got home, I realized that the box states that it was remanufactured. Wanting a NEW one, I got back in the car, drove back to the store, and went in to return it. The manager on duty, by the name of Akram, asked the cashier for some scissors because the box was retaped. When she opened the box, she said she wouldn't do the return because the product inside wasn't the item that was suppose to be in the box. It wasn't even a carpet cleaner in there. It was a vacuum cleaner, and it was a used one! So not only, did I purchase an old used piece of ####, that was on their sales floor, I wasn't getting my money back either. So I got pissed off and told her that's ####, they sold it to me exactly that way! And the reciept clearly states, "merchandise must be in its original condition as of the day it was purchased". Well I'm pretty sure that since I never even opened the damn box, it's in its original state. But she continued to argue with me, in front of other customers who were in line behind me. She humiliated me, and I felt as if she was insinuating that I had done this. She told me she would email the district manager about it, and to come back in the morning to speak with the store manager Tim. On my way out the door with this #### I bought there, she made it a point to tell me she isn't judging me. Whatever. So I'm out $80, and labeled as something that I'm not, humiliated, and I still have dirty carpet. Whatever happened to treating the customer with respect? We, the customers, are the reason why you are still employed. Just think about that. So tomorrow, I get to waste more gas, to drive there again, and this time, I hope the store manager has the decency to not only apologize for her actions, but also refund my hard earned money and maybe retrain his management about customer service, and how to actually apply it so we only have positive things to write in about. Because I'm seriously pissed about how I was treated today.

Big Lots assault by a store clerk

I was in the Greer store location yesterday March 22, 2017. I had lost my $20.00" s it was the last money I had for the month. I am mentality and physically disabled and I have severe panic attack disorder and I was in a frenzy trying to find my money to buy the items that I had. I was walking around the store to check everywhere I had been in the store because I had already went to the parking lot and my car looking for my money but I didn't find there so I was hoping that I had dropped my money in the store. I even asked a black man who was stocking the shelves if he or any else had possibility found the money by any chance. He stated no. I proceeded to go to the front of the store and by this time I was in a bad panic attack. All of a sudden the cashier ran up behind me and punched me coming around the right side of my neck and hitting me in the Left jaw. Then while using her arm shi lifted me off of my feet and then slammed me to the floor into my back. I just had very serious abdominal surgery last week and I could have had a falal injury because of this attack on me. I am going to go to my doctor tomorrow and get my incision examined and my neck jaw and back because I am in serious pain from this employee attacking me and choke slamming me to the floor. She accused me of trying to steal merchandice that I had in my left arm it was every where plus she ripped my purse from my arms and then dumped my medicine and wallet and my nail polishes every where as I was still laying on the floor in pain and shock trying to figure out what just happend to me. The employee then identified herself as a store employee then accused me of stealing the socks that were in my arms plus she said that my nail polishes that I had in my purse were not mine and then took my nail polishes that I had from polishing my neighbor's nail the night before. I finally gathered up my medicines that were everywhere and my wallet. It took me a good time to be able to get up off the floor. I was even on the phone talking with my husband about losing my money the whole time so he heard everything that I have just told you. He had me come home and told me to be calm. So I am going to be waiting to get a response from this company. Hopefully I will have a response from this company, to decide what I need to resolve this serious attack both physically and mentally nature. Thank you
