I purchased a Goldendoodle puppy from Marie Plank at Berlin View Puppy Kennels in Nov 2017. She soon started showing signs of not being able to see . We took her to a vet and was told she had cataracts and probably had them due to a hereditary issue. She needed cataract surgery a year later. We contacted Marie Plank and told her that our dog had this issue and it will cost us over $5000 to get her treqated. We asked for our $1300 back from the purchase because they guarantee their puppy's but she never did anything. I am not sure what other puppies have the hereditary issue or what parent dogs were involved but I want other purchasers to be aware of this potential problem
assessment by vet
GENERAL MEDICAL NOTE
9/20/2018
Patient: Marlie Orvieto ID [protected]
Species: Canine Sex: Spayed Female
Breed: Goldendoodle Age: 2 Yrs. 0 Mos.
To whom it may concern:
I initially examined Marlie Orvieto 1/18/19 at 1 year and 4 months of age. At that time, Marlie was diagnosed with
bilaterally symmetrical late immature juvenile cataracts. The presence of a juvenile cataract does not necessarily imply a
heritable basis. However, due to the bilateral symmetry of the cataracts and absence of other demonstrable ocular
diseases or disorders that can cause cataract formation, in my professional opinion this would be the most likely etiology.
Marlie presented again on 6/28/18 with the complaint of deterioration of vison and was scheduled at that time for cataract
surgery. Her cataracts were removed, without complication, on 8/21/18.
Kind regards,
Amanda Corr VMD DACVO

I wish I would have seen these posts prior to us purchasing a "Goldendoodle" from Berlin View as well. We went to see "Molli" in December of 2021 after seeing her on their website. When we arrived, she had lots of energy and wanted to play but kept "pancaking" on the ground which I thought was odd. She had straight hair and no curl but Marie said she was 50/50 so I didn't question it. We picked her up on January 1 and she was filthy, had poop all over her, and seemed anxious to say the least. I asked for pics of the parents with no response and no pictures ever provided. We were told the mom was a goldendoodle and the dad was a golden retriever and that she was 50/50...math didn't add up- but we didn't care as we are totally in love with Molli. She has come around and is an amazing puppy though we are still working on her anxiety and submissive behaviors.

Paperwork stated she was a "Male Goldendoodle" and the vet that was listed on the website had been closed permanently for quite some time when I looked him up. All in all, a very disappointing experience and a very questionable "business" they are running.

This responses is from Berlin View. I’m very sorry that you feel this way. We have had Goldendoodles for over 20 years and this is not a normal response. When the mother is an F1b Goldendoodle and is bred to a Golden Retiever it does bring the bloodline to the 50/50, an f1 doodle. Many 50/50 can and may have straighter hair which some people prefer. I do not recall that the puppy had gotten dirty prior to you picking it up and sorry that can happen.

As far as the health certificate from the veterinarian, it had been marked by mistake on the sex of the animal. The veterinarian closed his office during COVID restrictions and began doing all house visits. He has also begun his phase of retirement so that is the reason it states that online.

Sorry that you felt disappointed.

Our golden doodle from Berlin kennels was born January 25, 2021 and we received him in March. 2021 at 10 weeks. He has a very difficult temperament. He has extreme anxiety - high strung and nervous. We have another golden doodle so I understand this can be a trait of this breed but this is far from normal. We have invested in hours of private and group training. One top trainer recommended medication and another trainer said thank God he came to you because she is not aware of any other family that would have kept him. He nips pushes and knocks over the older dog constantly. We are trying very very hard but this has caused so much stress for our family. Perhaps Marie can retire the parents of this dog because there are some genes that should not be passed down. I would never want anyone to ever go through what we are going through with this dog. We have no peace at home anymore since purchasing him. But we do love him and he is part of the family now so just have to deal with it.

I'm heartbroken to read all of the comments and felt like I also needed to add as we purchased a standard GoldenDoodle from this breeder that died from bone cancer in August. He was part of the 1/1/18 litter, parents were Willow and Roscoe. The first noticeable lump was when he was 2.5 yrs old, he died by age 3.5, still just a baby. I didn't know how to find anyone else that bought a dog from that litter to see if they also had issues, hopefully not as it's devastating to go through something like that. Our dogs are family. I did reach out to Marie to let her know in case it was hereditary.

I am sorry for all the bad stuff. I purchased a goldendoodle, our first and only dog, in December 2005. We had no issues until a lar-par problem, which is common in retrievers, when he was 12. Surgery corrected the problem and he lived for 14 years 6 months and 16 days and gave us the greatest years. I recommended a friend to Berlin View when he was looking and his doodle is now 10 and has had no issues. As far as puppy mills, Marie has never made the puppy mill list. I am not denying anyone's issues with their pups and I feel sad because we had an absolutely wonderful experience with ours. In fact, the reason we haven't gotten another one is because we don't think any would be as good as our Snickers. This is just my personal experience.

Thanks for your kind words! It makes me feel bad that people have said bad things when we have had Goldendoodles for over 19 years and have had wonderful dogs! Our health guarantee is to replace if a puppy dies within the first two years. We don’t pay vet bills. I have a still will give another puppy to anyone that has a had situation. Sadly life brings thins we can’t help. We do our best to be honest and have great puppies. Thanks again!

Hi, I also had the same exact problems as almost everyone on here I can’t believe how similar our stories are the same thing I purchased a dog soon to find out that it was almost totally blind and Marie refused to do anything I had to shell out quite a lot of money to get the dogs eyes fixed. The dogs eyes were totally clouded over and I believe Marie and her vet were aware of the situation and sold the dog anyway. I wonder how many other people this happened too and is it still continuing continuing to happen if anyone would like to contact me my email is jpatmcl@me.com

Hello, I also purchased a golden doodle puppy from Berlin View (Marie Plank) two years ago in August. This past December, not even two years old, he was also diagnosed with almost complete blindness due to hereditary cataracts. It is absolutely devastating to see a puppy go through something like this. The surgery expenses were quoted between $6-8, 000. Thank you for posting because now we know that we’re not alone and unfortunately this is not the first time it has happened (and probably isn’t the last). Happy to hear your pup had a successful surgery though and we hope the same for our little guy. Best wishes.

Just got back from the vets and my Goldendoodle from Berlin View has a lump on the side of her throat that they think is cancer, AND she had cataracts in both eyes and she just turned 1 1/2 years old. Doc thinks it's cancer, but waiting on test results. Doubt if it's good news. Hopefully they will honor their 2-year "warranty" but I have a feeling not. I just went to their site, which they ALWAYS have dogs, and they have no doodles. Just pugs for someone else. It's a shame, we got our first doodle there about 3 years ago and she has been great. Maybe we got our first before all the in-breeding started.

We just had surgery for our 11 year old golden doodle that we also got from Berlin view —he had a lump on the side of his throat that actually came back as cancer as well- but a quick removal 1700$ later they said he should be fine! For years the vet told us it was just a gland but after one grooming in December 2020 it’s swelled up and bled constantly was the size of a half-dollar- I hope your pup is better and that everything works out OK!

I just wanted to let EVERY ONE know that Marie made it right by us. After I let her know about our dog, which was after I posted my original reply to the original complaint, she got back to me right away and she responded with, to me, genuine sad feelings for our dog Ellie and the health issues. She offered us a new puppy as soon as her next expected litter arrived. It has happened. Marie contacted me today to let us know that our new fur baby will be ready to pick up towards the end of October. I don't know why, if they are true complaints, that she never got back to some of you. It was not that way with us. But it still should be concerning to her about all the eye issues listed here. But again, Marie got back in touch with us right away and offered us a new pup right away also.

I got my golden doodle is from her too. My puppy was born Oct 27, 2017. I asked her for info and pics on the parents and she never gave it to me. I think the place is a puppy mill. She always has puppies and all different breeds. Besides my dog always vomiting since a puppy and refuses to house train, her eyes seem to be ok.

Sorry if we failed to send a picture to you. We only breed Goldendoodles. Occasionally we have friends that have a different breed of puppy that they will ask us put their pictures on our website. For 19 years we have had great Goldendoodles and great stories to tell!

Hello,
My name is Joy. Our family purchased two standard size Golden Doodles from Berlin Kennels . We notice one of our dogs having difficulty finding the ball and bumping into things. I noticed his eyes were cloudy. He just turned two in April. Today the vet told us that he has cataracts and they are so bad he can only see shadows. She told us he is a very healthy dog otherwise and this is hereditary. We have to take him to a specialist in The Lehigh Valley for surgery that will cost between $4000-$5000! I am upset to say the least.
