Bedding Experts / Uncomfortable bed

1 701 N. Milwaukee AvenueVernon Hills, IL, United States Review updated:
Contact information:

In October of 2003, we purchased a bedding ensemble from The Bedding Experts in Vernon Hills. It included a new mattress with a 10 year warranty. Less than 2 years after the purchase, we began experiencing a "collapsing" of the mattress on the sides and it's so pitched that it's now like sleeping on the roof of a house.

In February of 2005, we contacted The Bedding Experts and let them know about the problem. They dispatched an inspector at that time who measured the pitch in the mattress but took the measurement when no one was in the bed. The pitch or setting occurs when I get into the bed, but it isn't apparent when the bed is empty. The inspector claimed that there wasn't a severe enough problem to do anything about it, but did offer us a discount toward the purchase of a new mattress.

In April of 2005, I wrote Stearns & Foster, the mattress' manufacturer, who deferred back to the store.

Much time has gone by, and it's gotten worse, so I contacted The Bedding Experts again today, 2/9/08, and they indicated that in order for them to do an inspection, there is now a $99 transportation fee that we have to pay regardless of the outcome of the inspection.

Both the retailer and the manufacturer seem to be hiding behind a technicality of the measurement of the empty bed. And although the representative at the store was very apologetic and respectful, they're unwilling to acknowledge that the problem exists or even test for it without me paying a non-refundable fee and since the test they want to administer won't reveal the true problem, it's like a "Catch 22" Even if the product isn't defective enough to be considered a warranty claim by the store or by Stearns and Foster, it doesn't meet the basic standard of merchantability or reasonableness - it's impossible to sleep comfortably on it.

I don't want something for nothing. I just want a comfortable mattress that doesn't make me feel like I'm falling out of bed or need to hang on to the headboard! I'm not an obese person, and we have not abused the bed. It just failed and they don't want to own up to it.

We're not obese or heavy people and the bed was never abused.

I, too, had a horrible experience at The Bedding Experts. Ordered a king bed and headboard and was told delivery person(s) would remove my old bed. We had a platform bed, so all I had for them to remove was a queen mattress (no box spring). When they arrived and started to bring in the king set, I suggested that it'd be easier to remove the old mattress first and was told that they "don't like doing that". I had to call the store, who had someone speak to the guy to remove it. Then I realized the headboard was not there. I was told that when it did arrive, we'd have to connect it to the bed ourselves. Fine. After two weeks, I called the store and was told that the headboard was in and would be delivered in two days. I never got a call about delivery window time, so I called to ask about this. They told me it'd be between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. I waited at home, but they never showed up. When I called the store, they told me it was out of stock! I then drove to the store to cancel the headboard and was told that I could NOT cancel it, because my sales person was not in that day!! I finally rectified the situation through my Discover Card, who filed a complaint for me and I did not have to pay for the headboard. When I wrote Bedding Experts Corporate Office with this story, I got no reply. I'll never do business there again and, in fact, would love nothing more than to stand outside of the store and warn incoming customers what they're in for!

"DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! I purchased a mattress from this location and when they delivered the mattress they cracked my wood banister bring my old mattress down the stairs. We noted t he receipt that the banister was broken and when we called the store they told us that they would have someone call us for the repairs. Well this is when my nightmare began. 1st i called the store for 1 1/2 weeks before i got someone to call me back. The service repair man called my home at 5:30 in the morning to schedule a appt and woke up my whole house including my two small kids. When i asked why he called this Early he told me this is the time he started work and he is a very busy person and that i was impatient. I asked to speak to his supervisor he gave this lady in the warehouse who then told me that i was lucky that they were going to come out and fix my banister because the driver told her that the banister was already damaged.. She told me that she was not going to fix anything for me because i was out looking to get a brand new staircase. I want people to know not to shop here because there customer service stinks and know I'm probably stuck fixing something that was not my fault.. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!"

I doubt if the president of Bedding Experts actually gets accurate information from his store or regional managers. They proved to me that they stick up for each other and the way they treated me was uncalled for! They didn't follow through on communications to us regarding our claim(after we waited patiently for 10 days). Then, when I called them regarding the status of my claim they argued to justify the hoops they were making us jump through, the store manager actually called me "ignorant" when I asked him for my receipt number, then when I asked him for a phone number (which he has easy access to) he told me to look it up myself, and he hung up on me twice. At first I thought I was talking to a regular employee, so you can imagine how stunned I was to find out the store manager had talked to me that way! Unbelievable! Don't expect timely service-with- a-smile from this company. Our time is important to us even if it isn't to them. Something to ponder... slogans are nothing more than purchased words.

I wrote the last complaints which begins "I doubt if the president of Bedding Experts...". In all fairness I wish to say that this complaint WAS NOT against the store at 701 N. Milwaukee, Vernon Hills. The disrespectful, unprofessional employees I had to deal with WAS through the Bedding Express store on Diversey in Lincoln Park, Chicago.

We have a pedning BBB case and soon a compalint to Attorney General Lisa Maddigan about the deceptive practices by Bedding Experts. Also going to file a small claims case and drag the owner into court. That however doesn't help the fact that B.E. doesn't stand behind their warranty even if it is no cost to them ? My father in law sold bedding years ago so I know the mark-up is tremendous. As for your experience 'fed up' I too had the same experience. The delivery boy went sop far as to say, ' you got [censored]' in a matter of fact way. My battle however is not with the delivery boy, their is no accountability or customer satisfaction spirit with the management of Bedding Experts. They really don't care about being a fair company. They care more about a one time sale then repeat business. We as consumers do have the last say when we don't do repeat business and tell our stories to Family, Friends and Co-workers. I was pleased and surprised to hear that last Saturday 'Bedding Experts' was the topic of conversation at Oak Lawn Bingo. My girlfriends mother told my story and it spread. Kind of a pay it forward in reverse. Keep telling your stories about how you were treated for years to come that will affect their bottom line. I come from a large familyand have 26 nephew/nieces locally who all will here how Bedding Experts stands behind their products.

The experience I'm having with the bedding experts is beyond reprehensible. I purchased a king mattress set from there location at 35th and Halsted. Shortly after my purchase I noticed stains appearing on the mattress. These stains are in my opinion and the opinion of other family members are coming through the mattress. I would like to know if there are other consumers out there experiencing this problem with their mattress set. (Sealy Garfield). I paid for an independent expection company to come out and inspect the mattress and all I got from that was a denial of warranty because mattress is badly stained. I have done nothing to cause these stains. I was told by (Harvey) from Bedding Experts Corporate office that " he doesnt know the conditon of my home." Very unprofessional. If you or someone you know is having this same problem please contact me at vbrakcov@yahoo.com. I am seeking compensation.

I BOUGHT A MATTRESS AT THE BEDDING EXPERTS AND PAID 1900.00. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CALL THE STORE AND NOW EVERY 800 888 NUMBER OF THE BEDDING EXPERTS IS DISCONNECTED. I AM SLEEPING WITH A SPEED BUMP IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BED I ROTATED THE MATTRESS AND TRIED TO FLIP IT, BUT ONLY THE BOTTOM OF THE MATTRESS IS UNDERNEATH NOT THE SAME AS THE TOP. WHAT AM I TO DO...I HAVE NOW BEEN ON HOLD WITH SEALY FOR 15 MINUTES. I THINK I AM SCREWED.
