Becker Animal Hospital & Pet Resort Home Euthanasia

On Monday October 10, 2016 at 11:30 AM, I contacted Becker Animal Hospital to get information about scheduling an in home euthanasia for one of my dogs of 10 years. As difficult as this decision was for me, I talked to John about scheduling it for the that Sunday when my wife and I would be off or following Monday their 17th if their schedule permitted. It was then that John informed me that Dr. Becker was currently out of town until Sunday October 16, but he could possible do it on that day if I decided to go through with it and utilize their services.
As the week went by my dogs condition did not get any better, so I called Becker Animal hospital back on Thursday October 13 at 3:17 PM. I spoke with one of the receptionists who informed me that the guy who handled the scheduling for in home euthanasia was not in the office, but she would take my name and phone number and have him call me back as soon as he was in. She also offered the advise that if I did not hear back from anybody by the following day that I should go ahead and call back again. Following that information, I called back the following day at 12:13 PM when I did not hear back from anybody. I spoke to another female receptionist who informed me that Rickie was the one who handled the scheduling for the procedure and he was on the other line with another customer. I was placed on hold momentarily to wait for Rickie, but when he did not come on the line the receptionist went ahead and took my name and number again and advised me Rickie would call me right back. By 3:10 PM when I did not hear anything back, I called Becker Animal Hospital again and and explained who I was and that I was still trying to schedule and in home euthanasia for my sick pet. I was then told that Rickie was standing right in front of her and she would get him on the line. After a few moments, the receptionist came back on the line and told me that Dr. Becker was the only vet that did the in home euthanasia and he would not be back in town until Sunday so nothing could be scheduled at this time. I told the lady I was aware of that, and asked if something could be scheduled for Monday the 17th, but I would need to have some type of notice or scheduled appointment because both me and my wife were going to take off work so we could be there and that can't be done at the last minute. I was again asked to leave my name and phone number and someone would get in contact with me as soon as an appointment could be scheduled. As of today Monday October 17 at 3:17 PM, I still have not heard anything back from anyone at Becker Animal Hospital. I have since contacted another far more reliable and courteous veterinarian office to schedule an appointment, which had a much more compassionate staff that understood how hard of a choice this was. I felt compelled because of this incident to write this complaint against Becker Animal Hospital, so as to warn any future customers of how the treat their potential customers. As for my self, I will never call Becker Animal Hospital again for anything I need for my pets!

Becker Animal Hospital & Pet Resort Procedures

We are just so broken up and I can't seem to explain so I asked are dear friend Tinker Mass who was with us to explain what happened. Please share this so no one has to go through this again.

Damn you! Bakers Animal Hospital

We arrived and there were 2 people in the waiting area. Victor was checking in and some 15 minutes later there were 6 people in line.
When he finished paying and came to sit down we waited another 15 minutes to be called back.
After more waiting for someone to come and asset them they took Hayward to the back to place an "IV" into him which I immediately thought was not going to be easy as they told the tech he had stopped eating 2 days prior and had lost a lot of weight. Even I knew from looking at him that his veins would be difficult to find, but the young tech made it sound so easy and peaceful. But it was anything but that...after some 20 minutes or so I heard a dog barking and Victor said "that's my boy, that's Hayward. I know his bark." JD went to the door that had been left open, stood in the hallway for a moment and headed to the back to find Hayward. Victor waited 30 seconds and followed him to the back of the facility. I could clearly hear the dog barking and he sounded as though he was in agony. Finally, JD came into the operatory holding Hayward and put him onto the metal table. The dog cried as he laid him down. The vet searched for the IV and started to inject the 1st med which had been explained as the "sedative." Hayward started to bark again in discomfort! The vet apologized and said, " It didn't go through." And she started to examine the IV then she asked for the 2nd syringe which was supposed to be the "push" to flush the med through but why would she do that if the first clearly didn't go through. The dog whimpered again.
Mind you this is in front of the 2 people who have cared for this animal even when they were told it would never walk again and nursed it back to life and to a good 10 more years of life- no thanks to the naysayers! And who have come there to say that good-byes and were led to believe this was going to go down very differently!
Now they are watching their 18 yr old dog being basically tortured before being put down! Good Gravy!
The vet finally called it and said they would have to move the dog AGAIN to back of the facility because they were going to have to use gas and none of the rooms were equipped with it. Victor got angry and said, "No we're NOT moving him AGAIN . You are TORTURING him- get this done now! We 're NOT WAITING FOR ANOTHER ROOM!"
The vet said that they were going to move him to the back not to another room because the gas was only available in the back.
So ONCE AGAIN, JD picked Hayward up and he whimpered again - God my heart was sick watching the abomination !
They finally get to the back and put him on "gas" and he seems settled and once again they try to find the vein but the vet has called someone else to try and now it's the 3rd time and this is to empty the syringe that has the drug that will put him down... AND he can't get it again so NOW he calls for a tourniquet. They bring it, he finds the vein after more difficulty and finally their poor Hayward is at peace!
JD was in a puddle - I was so mad I had to leave and I went to get the car. It was not my animal but my heart was sick at having to watch my friends go through this horrific ordeal- HEY BECKER ANIMAL HOSPITAL - THAT IS WHY I DON'T,
NOR WILL I EVER
TAKE MY PET TO YOU!
NOT EVEN MY PET ROCK!
Just so you know!

Becker Animal Hospital & Pet Resort Flea dip visit and nail cutting for my pet

On Wednesday, December 23, 2015, I called and scheduled a flee dip and nail cut for my Ole English Bulldog. After we picked him up, he got sick and with a cough and has been sick since that visit. I don't know if they mistreated him as well. He's seems traumatized since the visit. Please be careful when you take your pets there!

Becker Animal Hospital & Pet Resort Poor Service

I have had more than one bad experience from this place. I should have learned my lesson sooner! Everytime I go there, the wait is rediculous. Even at 7 in the morning with only one other car in the parking lot I ended up being there over an hour and a half. A couple of years ago I dropped my dog off in the afternoon to be neutered. They said that he needed 1 shot to be current on vaccines, and wouldn't neuter him without it. I said ok, and they told me he should be ready that evening, just to call first to make sure he would be ready. I was working nights so I asked if I could pick him up around 1 the following day, and they said that would be fine. I was running late to pick him up, and at 3 o'clock when I went to get him, he had still not been neutered. That was pretty frustrating, but I let it go. The next day I called before going to get him and they let me know he still wasn't fixed. After 3 days, I was waiting for them to bring him out, and finally they called me to the back. They let me know he had gotten his vaccine, but they still hadn't gotten around to neutering him. I was livid! I left there refusing to pay for a vaccine that they required to perform a service, that they didn't even perform. My dog came home from there with kennel cough. Last June I took my 3 dogs there to get their vaccines, out of convenience, as well as bathed and nails clipped. When I went to pick them up they let me know that they were unable to bathe my German Shepherd because she had growled at the girl and they cannot mussel them for a bath. Wednesday I took my German Shepherd back, again out of convenience because I am on nights. She had not eaten much in a few days, seemed depressed, and was having trouble standing up. They said it would be a few hours to run some test, but I let them know I wouldn't be able to pick her up until 6 or 7 AM when I got off work. I wanted her up to date on her vaccines (which they let me know weren't due til June) and I also asked about getting heart worm prevention and nails cut (which they said they would do while she was sedated). I paid about $330.00 in advance, and left. Their diagnosis was not very good for her. I picked her up in the morning, and they said by the looks of her radiology report she either had cancer or a fungal disease, either possibility was serious and complex for them to treat so they referred me out to a specialist. Her nails had not been cut, but conveniently they had done her heartworm test and Proheart shot. I was heartbroken that my dog was having to go through this, and very irritated that they did not cut her nails while she was sedated so she was at least a little more comfortable. It was in the paperwork and already paid for! After seeing the specialist I ended up having to put my dog to sleep. I am crushed, and left even more dissatisfied with the service at Becker Animal Hospital.

Becker Animal Hospital & Pet Resort Malpractice

On January 3rd, 2014 I brought my 10 lb lap dog in after she was hit by a car. I found her on the side of the road, limp, after she was let out by an irresponsible mental midget of a housekeeper. I carefully picked her up and placed her in the lap of my friend who was in my passenger seat and arrived at Becker roughly 13 minutes later- even though it is usually 45 minutes away. Luckily, there was no traffic- and no police. I bring her into Becker, choke out the words that it is an emergency, and they bring her in the back to "stabilize her". All they did was give her pain meds, and not even enough to stop her pain spasms that had her screaming every 10 minutes. Then some Indian "doctor", Dr. Banga, who can barely speak English tells me that my beloved canine companion "Just walk bad way. Slip disc. No good. Never walk again." I explain to the guy that I found her on the side of the road, about 8 feet down a small hill that she must have rolled down a little bit. He assures me it is merely a slipped disc from walking the wrong way. I demand an x-ray, which Dr. Banga (and I use the term "doctor" very lightly) was very reluctant to do. He finally agrees and says "Dog also have broken pelvis. Probably from roll down hill. No car hit." Now, as you could imagine, I could not see very well through all the tears in my eyes. It was also about 1 A.M. and very dark. They refer me to a specialist for surgery on her pelvis so it could heal. After being assured over and over that my baby would never walk again, they gave me "the x-rays" and the address of the specialist. I immediately head over there with Snowy, my 10 year old (at the time, she's 11 now) 10 lb Maltichon. They take one look at the x-rays and tell me that there is nothing wrong with my dog and to leave. After arguing with them for a good half hour and being told to leave multiple times, they called Becker. It turns out, Becker sent over THE WRONG X-RAYS. Not only were the X-rays FROM 2012, but they were of A DIFFERENT DOG. NAMED PENELOPE. After examining the X-rays, the specialist showed me them. I, an untrained non-medical professional, immediately saw what the specialist was trying to show me. Not only did Snowy have a broken pelvis, but she ALSO had a BROKEN LEG clearly snapped in half that Banga missed! A broken leg that, because Banga can't read an X-ray, I SUPPORTED HER ON when I carried her! They then looked at her under a light, my eyes were dry now as I was given a minute to calm down, and there it was- a tire mark on her rear. If my vision wasn't blurry from the tears and distress, I would have seen it clear as day. But Banga was there with unaltered vision. Yet he claims she was not hit by a car. Then the specialist told me, word for word, "Dr. Banga is an idiot. For her pelvis to be broken from a fall, she would have to have fallen 4-stories." Then, the good news, the specialist told me that Snowy will make a full recovery. She will walk again. Which she is, by the way. She is walking perfectly fine.
So, now to deal with the evil doctor that screwed up the diagnosis, caused great distress by telling me she would never walk again, missed the broken leg, and then sent over the wrong x-rays which almost denied Snowy the treatment to save her therefore putting her life in danger. I drove up to Becker, turned on the "record" on my phone, and walked in. I asked to speak to a manager, I have a complaint. I was seen in about 15 minutes. I explained what had happened, the "manager" told me she would be right back. 45 minutes later she returns with the REAL manager. I then re-explain what had happened, and demanded a refund and compensation. I received the refund and was promised compensation and an apology from Banga. I called about a month later whilst waiting at my car dealership for them to finish the car wash and the manager I spoke to, John, said that he would have Banga call me as soon as he gets in. I asked about the compensation and after deflecting for a few minutes he had the audacity to say "I don't recall ever offering compensation." to which I replied: "Oh you don't? Really? Is that so? Well don't worry, I have you covered. I recorded it." after a short pause he said "Recorded what?" and I answered "Our conversation." he then asked "How much did you record?" and I told him "All of it. From the time I parked my car to the moment I got back in it." and he replied with a very disappointed sounding voice "Oh. Great." at which point in time, I got a $150 credit to use at Becker.

So, as if the staff aren't shady enough, here is the next part of the adventure.

On Christmas day I walk into Becker with my sister. We adopt a cat. They told us they had the cat for 2 weeks, that it was dewormed, that it was a boy and that his name is "Anjuelio". We adopted the cat only to find that she was in fact a girl. Really, Becker? 2 weeks and you still couldn't figure out that a vagina means female? She also had worms. We renamed her Athena. 3 days later we take her back to Becker to get dewormed. The lady behind the counter tells us that there is no record of the cat ever being there and no record of us adopting it. After about 30 minutes of arguing, the staff that opened the cage for us to take the cat home on Christmas finally said "Oh yeah, they were here on Christmas and adopted it." 5 minutes later, the lady FINALLY "sees the file."

The record keeping is a joke. I get anxiety every time I am forced to go there as it is the only 24 hour vet and the vet in Boerne, Herbst, is also run by people who's medical training consisted of nothing but countless hours of humping a doorknob.
I get so uneasy regardless of the poorly trained staff, the bad record keeping alone is enough to scare you to death!
You want grooming? They'll get confused and beat your animal with a hammer. A flea bath? They'll euthanize it.
I just want a safe place to bring my beloved canine companion to make sure she is okay and taken care of. But obviously that is too much to ask for.

Becker Animal Hospital & Pet Resort - verbal abuse

As I was driving home I saw a small lost pup on the ground. He was cold, scared and boney. I picked him up and he had no tags. I figured he might have a micro chip and someone had lost him but seeing him the way he was, he could die soon. I took it home, gave him water and search the phone book to find an open vet and came across this guy. I go and tell...
