Beam By Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems $85 charge with a lifetime warranty

I have been fortunate to be married to a builder and have lived in 6 new homes. The last three homes had central vac. The first two were NuTone and my current central vac is a Beam.

My History with NuTone: After owning a Nutone for about 9 years, the unit quit working. I called the Company and they sent a technician out to fix the unit at no cost to me.

My History with Beam: Beam was installed in my current home April 2009. One of the major selling features was the lifetime warranty (same with my NuTone unit).

Within the first 30 days of having the Beam Central Vac installed, the vacuum quit working and the circuit board had to be replaced. The unit is now 2-1/2 years old and last month (a week before Christmas) the unit quit working (again). When I called Beam, they put me in touch with Master’s Security System in Chesapeake, VA. I discovered that even though the unit had a life time warranty, Master’s Security was going to charge me $85 for a service charge.

I called Brabble Insulation in Ahoskie, NC, who actually installed the unit. Mr. Brabble explained to me that his company no longer installs Central Vacs but that “it is a known problem with the circuit boards on those units” and that he still happened to have one in his shop and would install it for free. And he did! That day!

I am extremely pleased with Mr. Brabble but extremely disappointed in Beam. When we build our next house, guess who’s getting my money for a central vacuum?

TIP: If you offer a lifetime warranty, then stick to it. Beam made the bad product -- I just paid for it.
