Beacon Plumbing Plumbing

This was the worst experience I ever had with a repair company. It started off terribly. While walking the plumber to the area that needed repair, he says out loud, "I can not believe that these idiots try to work on their own plumbing. Then he did not do the job right. He was repairing an outside faucet and left the faucet an inch and a half away from the wall. I called the company to see if I could get the job done correctly. The manager calls the plumber, who claims that my daughter gave him permission to do the job that way. This was a blatant lie. When the job was completed, he told my daughter that this was the only way he could do it and it would cost hundreds more for him to correct it. The manager asked for pictures which I sent, but he never got back to me. It cost me $891 to have the job done incorrectly. They replaced the galvanized pipe with plex. Any complainant plumber could have done this job correctly. No matter the price, the job should have been done correctly.

Worst of all. After the job was done, my 10-year-old granddaughter came out of her room crying and said the plumber had shoved her against the wall. I talked with the manager about the plumber calling me an idiot and bumping my granddaughter into the wall, but he dismissed it.

Beacon Plumbing Tech breaks Equipment then lies

This is by far the worst experience I've ever had with a "professional". I called Beacon because they claimed to fix grinder pumps, mine was clogged and simply needed to be cleaned out. The motor ran fine but it didn't pump waste out, pretty obviously a clog some where. I set up an appointment the next day which then came and went so I gave them a call. Oops, they forgot to register any of my information or send anyone out to me! Strike one.
Beacon sends me "Mike" who was in the Navy fixing plumbing issues and falling into drain holes. Mike, the supposed expert, has never seen my particular type of pump before. Uh oh.
I offer to lend him a hand and point him in what I think is the right direction to clean out the pump. We end up accidentally opening up the motor and dumping oil out to which Mike replies "It's fine, as long as there's a little bit left." Uuuh, okay Mike. I'm skeptical but whatever.

We open up the rest of the pump and then put it back together after not finding a clog. We then test the pump with the electronic guts still hanging out and it flushes fine, hooray! We decide to test it 4-8 times times before putting the pieces all back together. We then snap the lid back on then I notice that Mike has forgotten to put a piece back in, he is obviously in a hurry and doesn't want to be here. After he gets the piece back in, he starts fiddling with the electrical bits WITHOUT UNPLUGGING THE MACHINE. Surprise surprise, we hear a zap and smell smoke and then the machine won't run. Mike then goes outside to call his superviser.

After the call, Mike comes back in and tells me "We'll get this resolved. I'll have someone call you tomorrow and we'll get you a replacement that is equivalent." Then Mike rushed out without even leaving me an invoice.

The next day comes and leaves with no call and then I have to wait until Monday to talk to the customer service rep. I call twice before I get to talk to him, apparently lunch lasts from 2pm to 4pm.

Finally, I talk to him and he tells me that he needs to verify that a tech came out which will take over night. I then call Mike and ask him for the job number, he of course stalls and asks if he can call me back. A few minutes later I get a call from the two of them and then try to tell me that the machine must have been broken and that they'll happily credit me what they wanted to charge me to clean out the pump (a little over $400, which is INSANE) to find and install a replacement pump. No thanks, guys. I'll just go buy a replacement pump for $1000.

This company has absolutlely NO customer service and cheats consumers with charges and trip fees. I was charged $494 to change the thermostat on my water heater (which by the way they installed for $3000 but that is another sad tale). I will NEVER EVER do business with this company again and will pass the word to anyone who asks me about them that they will overcharge and cheat you any way they can. My suggestion is to take your business elsewhere. BTW, they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau. Gee, I wonder why.

Beacon Plumbing scam

called them for a leak in a pipe inside the house...that repair cost about 350.00 to repair. They then went on to tell me I needed a new water heater($1500) and a pressure relief valve as my pressure was coming into the house at 100psi (should be around 50) this cost around $700 and took about 15 minutes to do.
Seems like they tell everyone they need a new pressure relief valve...BIG SCAM!

I'm a plumber in SoCal and there seems to be rumors going around by people who clearly have no education of the need of a pressure regulator and are calling it a scam. The only way it can be considered a scam is if the plumber is lying an telling you your water pressure is above 80 psi and it's not (meaning your pressure regulator is not broken) or if he is trying to charge an outrageous amount of money for it. $350 for replacing a pressure regulator is a fair price (a little higher than I charge for the typical regulator and install but I don't know what size and model your home requires and if it can be installed with soldering new fittings.) a typical residential regulator is set to work at an adjustable psi between 40-80 if pressure is over 80psi it's most likely failed. When a regulator fails it usually means the mechanism inside is failing to open and close a door which controls the amount of pressure being let into the house. It usually means that sediment has built up in the mechanism preventing it from moving or debris had gotten lodged in the mechanism. I do understand the concern for looking out for scams and not trusting someone if you have been victimized but this is no scam and the only one its hurting in the long run is the homeowner because 100 psi in your home will stress your pipes and cause them to fail rapidly (pinhole leaks, slab leaks, joint failures, failure of all faucets, water heater tank, shower valves, etc) this can lead to ten of thousands in repairs. Not to mention if you do have a flood caused by those items failing our homeowners insurance will not cover the damages because your pressure is too high and that maintenance issue is your responsibility. It sounds to me like this plumber was trying to save you a huge hassle in future and the only one you scammed was yourself

A pressure relief valve comes on the water heater these days. So you did get scammed there.
If he said you needed a Pressure reducing valve which if it is coming in at 100psi you would need...then that's legit.

Beacon Plumbing TRIP CHARGE

We contacted Beacon Plumbing because our Hot Water Heater needed a Pressure Relief Valve Replaced. We had been quote from another plumbing company $150.00 to do this but that company couldn't get to us for a few days so we called Beacon Plumbing. Yes they came out the same day, told us it would be $700 to replace the valve or $1200 for a new water heater, Ridiculous. So we told them we could get another quote from a different company and they Still Charged us a $75.00 Trip Charge for doing NOTHING.. A REAL RIPOFF COMPANY! Use them at your Own Risk...

Beacon Plumbing Overcharge

Don't do business with Beacon Plumbing! They replaced a high-limit switch on my gas furnace and charged me $307, plus a $100 service charge.. It took one minute to remove two screws and plug it in, and I found out later that the part costs less than $20. When I contacted them about the inflated charge their reply was "we don't work by time and material and use flat-rate pricing". I forgot to mention that they are not registered with the Better Business Bureau either, I checked.

Beacon Plumbing Fee

was told I had a water leak by my water company - possible toilet running. Called Beacon Plumbing and they arrived about 9 am - replaced the water valve and internal tank parts - secured another toilet by replacing the seal. They were here approximately one hour. The fee was $793.03! Then I was told I still had a leak - one service person stayed inside while the other when outside to look around. The one outside came back and showed me a leak in the ground near my drive way that was not there yesterday. He said he'd been digging around to try and find the leak, but didn't find it. Quoted me a price of $12, 000.00 to replace the line from the street or another $900.00 to dig around again and fix the broken line! They wanted to do the work right away. I sent them away!

Mr. Petersen. Beacon Plumbing strongly disagrees with your comments as follows:

1. It is our pattern and practice when a call comes into dispatch to not quote prices and we advise customers that they will be given a fixed price for all work to be performed before any work is done.
2. The invoice you signed indicated the price to be charged at a fixed rate and you authorized the work to be done.
3. The invoice you signed clearly and conspicuously states in various areas that the price is a fixed rate, not a time and materials contract.
4. The invoice you signed also has a place where you accept the work and that you were satisfied with the work.
5. The invoice you signed also notes that the water to your entire apartment building was shut off while you effected the repair work.
6. The plumber sent to your job was not a “hack” but, instead, an experienced licensed plumber.

We are ready, willing and able to mediate your complaint through the Better Business Bureau or through Angie’s List.

Last, but not least, Mr. Petersen, you should be cautious in using words such as "scam" in connection with any business. If your accusation should prove to be false, you could be liable for defamation.

I called Beacon based on the advertising they do and was astonished when the individual was 2 hours late. Now this is not my issue. When I described my problem at curbside with the driver, he indicated that despite my thinking they charge based on an acceptable hourly rate, he quoted me $988 to INSTALL A FAUCET SET WHICH I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED AT HOME DEPOT. I told him no deal, then the pressure began by claiming we had a verbal agreement. Having legal experience to an extent I should have allowed Beacon to SUE me. Any reasonable judge would have awarded me damages. However, I was not able to wait on the installation so ESSENTIALLY I PAID $547 for a HACK. It took this individual 1 hour 20 minutes of admittedly skilled labor and 11 inches of soldering wire. NO MATERIALS at all. I'm not one to deny a person a living but $547 for 80 minutes?

Now being unemployed a while now, there goes much of my reserves. I paid Beacon the equivalent of $400.00 an hour and they warrant nothing. On the upside, I did get a primer on doing this and UNLESS I TOTALLY LOSE MY MIND, I WILL NEVER, EVER CALL THEM AGAIN.

There is a rule in retail marketing that a satisfied customer tells an average of THREE people of their satisfaction and a dissatisfied one tells TEN. Well, in 5 days I have exceeded my quota and am setting a personal minimum of 5-10 PER WEEK.

BEACON PLUMBING MANAGEMENT-P.T. Barnum once said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." Better enjoy your scam while you can.

Sincerely,

Wallace Petersen

There is no follow-up as to 'what repair took place', the determining factor by the contractor as to 'why those repairs were required' and the 'cost associated with those repairs'
I have been in the Plumbing and Heating Industry for thirty years. I assure you that any qualified plumber, who followed up on the water service leak, would have been capable of determining if the water service leas was due to a catastrophic failure, or if it was an intentional failure. Please be fair to all by following up with these facts. Best regards.
