Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) - Frauds and scam

The government is going to have to check into banks ridiculous procedures. Their overdraft fees are as if you go in a grocery store buy a candy bar but the money doesn't go into the cash register until they cal the police and say they didn't pay you! What is the difference?? In this day and age of computers it is ridiculous if you deposit 300.00 in a bank...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Biggest rip-off i've seen in a while

My husband and I have recently amassed almost $400 in overdraft fees from what we thought was an institution we could trust. How much was actually overdrafted, you might ask? Less than $100. Our other account had well over $100 in it which would have covered those items. Did BB&T think to check our other accounts for the money? No! Did they notify us with a phone call or email to let us know that this cascade of fees was beginning? No!

I called the bank after the initial $70 had been charged over (you're going to love this) $7.00 of overdraft, and I asked them if I could opt out of this so-called Overdraft Protection. That would mean my card would simply be declined if I didn't have the funds in my account. A little embarrassment at the checkout line, but I could deal with that. The woman that I talked to acted like I had just asked HER to pay the overdraft fees. "You can't opt out of overdraft fees!" she told me. Other banks, like the credit union we will soon be joining, allow you to do this, or to link 2 or more accounts to cover any overdrafts. Will BB&T let you do this? Of course not! They'd lose all those nice fees!

And what happens when you know that your account is going to overdraft and you go to your local branch and give them CASH to put in your account? At my previous bank, they would immediately credit your account with this money to prevent unnecessary charges. Does BB&T do this? Absolutely not! Why then they wouldn't be able to charge you hundreds of dollars in fees!

My husband and I trusted this bank with our hard-earned money, and they have failed us. I would never recommend putting any amount of money with this institution.

BB&T are big ripoff artists in my opinion! I went into the bank after getting nowhere with their "so-called" customer service. I thought for sure that if I showed them my bank ledger in black and white there would be no way they could refute the charges. But, of course, they found a way to manipulate the situation to their advantage. They still have not explained the illegal overdraft charges to my satisfaction. They gave me some crazy explanation about how a charge was held and then posted to my account causing the negative balance. However, the bottom line is that the money was in the account to cover all of my transactions. In my world, you subtract the debits from the credits and that leaves your available balance. But, that's not how it works in BB&T's world! They had me so confused and frustrated that I left the bank, with a promise that they might be able to give me a refund of partial overdraft charges, but ONLY if I signed up for a credit line of overdraft protection. GIVE ME A BREAK! How can these people sleep at night?

Um...unless you give them the OK to do so, they can't just take from another account to cover an overdraft - you have to let them do so first.

The exception is when an account has been overdrawn for a significant amount of time (usually a month) - then "right of offset" kicks in, but that's to prevent loss, that's not a courtesy overdraft protection type of thing.

However, if you overdraft "today" they can't just randomly debit another account to cover it.

I balance my checkbook. I know that this morning I had $877.23 and last night, I deposited $1, 685.34. Now, I knew the deposit last night would not clear until Saturday, but no big deal.
I did some errands, shopped a bit . I went to one store to purchase $52.00 worth of items and my card was declined!
It ws late at night and I had left my cell phone at home, so I swung by a BBT ATM to check my balance. My knees went week when I saw a deficit of $1, 100 ! Shaking, I drove home and called the 800 number hysterical!
It was explained to me that because the deposit was made at an ATM after hours that THEY HAD PUT A DOUBLE HOLD ON MY ACCOUNT! He did assure me that there would be no overdraft fees, but that I should not deposit my money in an ATM...and by the way, they decided not to clear the check until Monday, just because they can !
Well, when they do, I'll be waiting to pull it all out and find another bank!

If you just balance your checkbook like you should, you will not incur any problems. Stop blaming the bank for your own negligance...Its amazing people spend more money than they have and admit to it( even $1.00) and are shocked and amazed that they are charged a fee. Get over it and take some responsibility...for God's sake!

Same thing happened to me. Not a good way to keep customers. I'll never work with them again. Hiding a cash cow by calling it credit protection is embarrassing.

I completely agree. I am a college student, and my parents fill up my account every once in a while. I usually get anywhere from $75-$100 a week; however, it seems like a great majority of that money usually ends up going to the overdraft fees that I've unknowingly accrued over the course of the week. This overdraft is, of course, followed by the angry phone call from my parents telling me I'm irresponsible and squandering their money. They must think I enjoy getting only half of my allowance in the face of overdraft fees. The sad part is, my parents don't understand that it's really not me being irresponsible, but rather, it's the FACT that I call bbt24 (which they claim is "oh so reliable") or check my balance online and it tells me I have money that APPARENTLY I just don't have. I didn't realize until now that other people were having problems like I was. I just figured I was just as irresponsible as my parents made me out to be. But really, if we can fly to the moon, we [or BBT] should be able to update my freakin' balance. None of my other friends have BBT accounts, and it's ironic, because none of them ever have problems with overdraft fees either, and I know -- for a fact -- that they aren't any more responsible with their money than I am. BBT cheats people. End of story.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Consumers don't stand a chance anymore

We recieved a stimulus check for $1200.00 and deposited it in our banks ATM machine. (BB&T) We were then charged $210.00 in overdraft charges in one day because the bank says they can place a hold on the check and only allow $100.00 to be available. We deposited it on Thursday evening. I was told by a bank customer service representative that the funds would not be available until the following Wednesday because Monday was a holiday. We asked two different representatives on Saturday and Sunday to refund the charges with no luck. I emailed and still got no for and answer. We have been with this bank for over 20 years. We have had many loans from them(all paid in full) and had two mortgage loans through them (also paid in full). This is how they show thanks for loyal customers. This was our stimulus check. The only economy getting stimulated in this country is crooked banks and gas stockholders. Consumers don't stand a chance anymore. How sad.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Emails and phone calls led nowhere

I too had problems with this bank. I am shocked and appalled that any business let alone a bank would conduct business in such a negligent and dishonest manner. I had a small 401k IRA 90 day CD with Equitable Federal Bank before BB&T took them over. My account automatically transferred. I then moved out of state and wanted to rollover the IRA into another account. Getting information from their website was an exercise in frustration. It was always temporarily down, and then calling customer service was equally frustrating. I would get transferred to different people only to finally be hung up on. This happened on 3 different occasions. I finally got information on their procedure for a rollover and had my bank initiate it. It was sent with specific instructions to rollover the CD on the next maturity date. Well, they just went ahead and did the rollover without waiting and charged me an early withdrawal fee of $50. I was furious. Of course subsequent emails and phone calls led nowhere, so my only recourse is to warn the world to stay away from this bank.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Fees for paying loan ahead of time

I had a loan with BBT for about 3 years now and was told 3 years ago when I first got the loan that there were no penalties for prepayment. As soon as I got the loan down below $25, 000 I noticed a charge for $35. I called the bank and ask what this was about because they had told me they had no penalty for prepayment. They said it was a convenience fee. Convenient for them not for me. After telling them that I was assured there were no penalties for prepayment they insisted it wasn't a penalty. I was told I would be charged a convenience fee of $35 each month because I was now below $25, 000. MAKE ANY SENSE?

I depleted most of my savings account to pay off most of the loan and the remaining $7000 I paid with my credit card which I have a fixed 4.9 interest rate. Less than the interest BB&T had given me. My credit card company, Capital One, has been great. No hidden fees. I will be finished paying them off next month and have cancelled my account at BBT. Stay away from this bank. Very shady characters.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) - Overdraft fees

I arranged for my mortgage payment to be deducted automatically from my checking account. The online banking site that that "payee will require five processing days to complete transaction". I planned accordingly, so that the money would draft the day I got paid. It ended up being drafted after two days, my account went in the red, and I was charged $630 in...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Rip off

M&t bank does the exact same thing. They manipulate deposits and withdrawals to maximize banking fees. This is so unfair but it is how they make their money. And the worst part is that no one cares because it only affects people who don't have money. Our only recourse is not to use them and this may have an impact. Let's all withdrawal our little money out of the banks and only use them to pay bills. Every spare dime doesn’t leave in the bank and don't use their visas. Let's revolt! I we don't use their visas for purchases then they won't make money off of visa. Or let's all get secured visas instead of bank accounts. This way we can still have the convince of using a credit card without using the banks that have turned against us. We should start a campaign that may hit these small banks that are obviously desperate for our money right in their pocket books. If we don't use them, then they don't exist. These banks make all of their money off of the poor. We are their main business. Most of the bigger banks only allow people with good credit and large amounts of money. The smaller banks, like these, are reliant on the poor with bad credit or no credit. They know we have problem managing so they exploit it and make your problems even worst. It's time to flip it. I am making resolution not to use the banks any more. There are other options and after paying more than 1000 in bank fees to m&t this year, and just switching to bbt and hearing from you that they do the same, I am looking for a secured visa account. My banking days are over. They can take advantage of some other poor chap!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) bb&t will rob you blind with fees!

I too have been charged numerous overdraft fees by BB&T. Even though I have a credit card for overdraft protection, I was charged $70 dollars in overdraft fees for $7 dollars worth of purchases, and they said that the reason that they did not pull money from my credit card to cover it was because they can only pull money in $100 increments and I only had $96 available for my balance. So... my question is why can they not pull less than $100 dollars?

Also, they will deduct purchases made immediately from your account, however, deposits are TOTALLY different. IF you deposit a check before the designated time each day, it is not credited until after midnight. If you miss the designated time, it is not deposited until the FOLLOWING business day after midnight. Even when I deposited a check to cover the overdraft fees and bring my balance out of the red, I was charged yet another overdraft fee for an automatic payment that cleared after my check was deposited but before BB&T actually put it into my account. Do not bank with them.

I agree that BB&T are robbing people of hard earned money. I had $313.00 in the bank and BB&T arranged my checks that came in for payment so that five checks bounced even though I had money in the bank to cover all but one transaction. I had two items to come into the bank, BB&T charged me an overdraft fee of $70.00 even though I had the 313.00 in the bank, which left a balance of $170.00. How can you be charged an overdraft fee, when after being charged the fee, you still have a balance of $170.00? Also, this caused every transaction that came in to bounce. I tried to talk to them and they said that they could not do anything about it.

They have robbed me and stolen my money!

I just went from those crooks to Wachovia. We have taken four accounts from them so far, and I intend to spread the word widely. They now say that they cant do anything about it. Everybody makes mistakes. They count on them to make excessive profits. That is exactly why the system is set up that way. Think about it. They want you to overdraft and they love it. The do not want, in any way, what is best for you. And they are getting to be the worst. What I mean by that is that my guy at Wachovia said that he can fix those kinds of problems in most cases. That is what people want.

My neighbor just overdrafted seven times. She was moving into a new place and having to short sale her condo due to financial difficulties. She had several on time extra expenses like Progress Energy and those types of deposits. BB&T only gave her back credit for one of the seven overdrafts. What a bunch of ###s! The girl works at Verizon and is struggling for every penny at this moment, and they are there to put the screwing to their customers at the worst time. What business partners they are, huh. I told her I would give her the referral fee if she went to Wachovia plus an extra fifty bux bonus. Screw BB&T just like they did her. They will be losing a lot of accounts, and will not be around in the future to benifit from the recover when customers start to prosper and their deposits start to grow. Wachovia will be making the spread on my money. They are offering a 10% bonus after 12 months on the first 3000. So, after a year I get a 300 dollar bonus. Do yourself a favor and go to a bank that is better in terms of technology - you get same day deposit up to 8pm at the teller at Wachovia and deposit check imaging. You get infinitely better customer relationship management by a person who is much, much, much more competent. Did I stress that they are much more competent. All you have to do is look around in BBT then go to Wachovia and do the same. You will understand what I mean. And, last but not least, if you want to make more than 1% on your money - run to Wachovia. They are going to beat the crap out of BB&T this year.

Incidientally, I would short BBT stock and buy Wells Fargo if I were doing a pairs stock trade as this is inevitably going to translate into poor stock performance for BBT when others start to act on this news.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Unfair fees

I was also charged overdraft fees on money that should have been credited to my account. I have been with this bank for 10years. Have never had a problem until this past week. I have always deposited my payroll check on Sat. morning and it was credited on Mon. night. This past week I did the same t hing. I checked my balance on Thurs. morning and had a $-411 in my account. I went straight to the bank to see what the problem was. The girl at the bank told us that they had changed their policy on check deposits and they had notified all their customers. I never received any notice. They charged me $350 in overdraft charges the first day, $105 the second day, $140 the third. By that time my direct deposit showed up on my online statement. I also deposited some cash to cover any outstanding debits. I called the phone 24 after leaving the bank and had a $78.00 balance. That should have been sufficient to cover anything that was still out. The next morning I checked my balance again and it was $43.00 with another overdraft fee of $35.00. How can they charge you a overdraft fee if there is a positive balance in your account? I have had it with this bank. They stole $700 of my hard earned money. I wouldn't encourage anyone to use this bank. I have warned everyone of my friends that use this bank.

I have had the same experience. I've written complaint letters, spoken to many employees in person, and the best answer I've gotten is "If you don't work in a bank, it can be difficult to understand"...
I decided to close the account and open one at the local credit union. I highly recommend this tactic, since the bank currently spends more money lobbying to limit credit unions than they do on customer service!

Let me know if we can sue them too b/c I just got into it with a BBT associate about it! It seems that we can cash our check and then turn around to deposit it so it will reflect on the same day deposit but if we deposit a check it will be the next day before it gets credited! How stupid is that? They charged me over $1000 in overdraft fees already because of this stupid thing. Let me know anything!

We TOTALLLYYYY agree with all the above. We too have been jipped of alot of money from BB&T. I have banked with BB&T for over 10 years and we started noticing a problem about a year and a half ago. At first we thought it was an oversight on our part and the second time we started getting concerned and wondering what they were doing. It was hard to know how much money you actually had in the bank, even in keeping good records. Their totals were always different from our own. Well, recently we thought we would try something just to see what they were up to. We decided to leave a small amount of money in the account and not use the account for a period of one week. Nothing deposited, nothing withdrawn. We used cash on all of our purchases. To our surprise, with nothing going in or coming out of the account, we were suddenly overdrawn 681 dollars. So tell me somethings not fishy! My husband went to the bank on several occassions to speak with a manager and never was able to speak with one. Just the other day he spoke with one of the employees on the 800 teller line and she didn't know how to answer any of his questions and referred him to one of the branch managers. She was not very helpful and didn't seem to want to help answer any questions until he mentioned contacting the attorney generals office, then she seemed concerned and started asking him questions and wanting to try and help him. He told her, sorry I don't know how to answer your questions then hung up with her. Since then, he has contacted the attorney generals office and told the gentleman he spoke with of these websites and we need more people to call and complain. That man told him he was going to go home that night and look at the sites. Oh, before I get off of here, we switched banks and haven't had a lick of trouble, our balance is true and direct deposits are available just as we were told when we opened the account. We went shopping today and it showed on our account by the time we got home. How AWSOME is that! A bank that doesn't rip you off and doesn't lie to you.

I myself got even with BB&T. I purchased a home from them that they couldn't sell because of the current housing climate and I was able to get the home for less than half it's appraised value (real appraised value). I then put it up for sale. I had to sit on it for 16 months but was finally able to sell if for tens of thousands more than I paid. So BB&T can be your friend if you know how to use them. I'd advise anyone who uses any bank to make sure their account is accessible on-line (computer) so you can actually check the current balance at any given time and before you write checks. That way you are covered. The account balance they display on their web site will always be the actual amount available to you. I'd say another good practice is to keep a good checkbook journal and to go to it right now and deduct several hundred dollars without making either a payment or withdrawal so you're always several hundred dollars ahead. If you cannot afford this, you probably shouldn't have a bank account to begin with. These institutions are not in business so you can kite checks when you're short of money. Discipline is the key to success in money. Every comment I've read involved those who were very sloppy with the chore of handling their money.

After getting charged over $800 in overdraft fees for items that had "posted" to my account due to created accounting practices, I chose to close my account. My employers bank paid BB&T on a Friday night at midnight. At 9am on Monday, I went to the branch to withdraw all of my money and close my account. I was told the money would not be available until 2pm that day.

I'd rather work with money orders. In the long run it is cheaper, and no large corporation will be able to use my money as if it belongs to them.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Bad customer service! Interest rip offs!

Following many calls to customer service, these people, just can't get it right, which means this practice is probably a part of their "corporate plan".

I have an auto loan that auto-deducts out of my checking account monthly, and I thought I'd like to make additional principal payments after my regular payment to finish the loan off early. I paid $75 additional, and when I got the monthly printed statement, these guys took $53.35 in interest and $21.65 on the principal. Needless to say I freaked out, and immediately called in to have it fixed.

I got many different stories, from customer service from..."you can't do that", to, the final answer " Oh, yea this we can easily correct". Well, here it is months later and still not fixed (they are still not putting the entire payment to principal), and I get the feeling they believe we are all ignorant, illiterate, and stupid that we'll never find this, let alone get perturbed enough to lodge this complaint.

I have had many loans and dealings with banks, but I've never seen anything quite as bad as these people, so if your considering BB&T, save yourself some aggravation, and avoid this bank.

Monday I will again start calling to have this situation rectified, and go through it all one more time.

It will cost me more to pay off the loan than to finish paying the last 26 months! They won't answer the question "Why?" I asked how much the interest would be each month and they said there was no way of calculated that. She was very guarded and would give no information when I asked "My interest is$98 this month - what will it be in the future?" THe only response was "I cannot answer that question." The representative was completely rude and obviously trained to not answer questions!

BB&T IS A DISGRACE! IN MOST AREAS THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER. THE BRANCH MANAGER CAN BE THE PROBLEM IN MOST BANKS. THEY ARE OF NO USE OTHER THAN STRUTTING AROUND DOING NOTHING. THE TELLERS ARE WORKING ALL JOBS BECAUSE OF EMPLOYEE CUT BACKS. I CALLED AND THE LADY SAID SHE HAD TO GET BACK TO THE WINDOW. I AM DISABLED AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY ENTRY FOR DISABLED PEOPLE AT THE GRAHAM BRANCH. THEY OWN THE GOVERNMENT AND HAVE PRIVLEDGES FEW OF US HAVE. PEOPLE WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY KNOW WHO TO CALL AND THEY ARE HELPED IMMEDIATELY. MOST CUSTOMERS GET NO HELP AND MUST MAKE PHONE CALLS AND PLEAD!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) - Ripping customers off!

BB&T has been systematically ripping off its customers by posting debits first, then posting credits or deposit. This is in stark contradiction to the policies banks, in general, have had in regard to this situation. Traditionally, banks would post deposits and credits first, usually at 12:00 midnight, then, they would post any debits or withdrawal...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Excessive charges and fees

BB&T is robbing its customers of their hard earned money. I am a fairly new BB&T. When I begin my accounts, I specifically told a customer service representatives that I wanted my checking and savings account to be linked for overdraft protection. A couple months later, I was out of town making purchases. Normally I will transfer funds between accounts. On this occassion I was unable to do so but I knew or thought that funds would automatically be transferred over "because I was suppose to have overdraft protection". I made 5 small transaction during my travel totaling $16.00 I was charged $170.00 in fees. I although I did not write checks, I used my debit card as "a credit transaction" due to their program "Visa Reward Points" if you use credit and instead of debit. I had appropriate funds in my savings to cover $16.00! but they did not move funds over. I contacted the bank, and they stated that I had not signed up for overdraft. I am very itelligent person and worked at a bank for many years. They did not sign me up for overdraft protection not myself. They refused to refund the fees and then I was charged $2.00 for making more than 2 calls to customer service per statement cycle and top of that when they finally linked the accounts. They automatically withdrew the $200.00 from savings to take care of the overdraft but charged me $10.00 because they did and I did not transfer the funds over. When called to inquiry as to what the $10.00 was for since it was noted as "misc debit- no description what so ever of the charge" I was charged another $2.00 per call. What is the point of having overdraft protection if I am going to be charged by the bank for the service. Suppose I am ill, in a hospital unable to transfer the money? BB&T has probably made millions from deceiving customers.

Noticed this morning when I checked my bank account online that I was charged a total of $4.00 for calling them twice. How messed up is that?! I'm definitely switching over to a new account ASAP. I'm tired of BB&T making unnecessary money on me-literally hundreds of dollars they have made off of me since they bought out my bank in August of last year. It's been a mess and I can't take it anymore. Do not open a bank account with BB&T-you will regret it.

Deposited a check into another existing BB&T account (Wednesday) with the anticipation it would take 1 day to clear and I had my direct deposit pending (Thursday) BB&T posted the check for the same day and charged me $36. When I made the $2 call to them, they said yes we can clear deposits the same day...since when? this is not the first time they have finagled dates to charge me overdraft fees hours before a pending direct deposit. And if you account is in the negative for more than 4 days they will charge an additional $36 #openingaPNCaccount

I recently went through a very similar issue with BB&T...Got me for $180 in fees and today I saw the $2.00 (x3) Phone 24 fees...WTF? I called them to work out an issue that they helped create and I have to pay for the phone call? Without being alerted that they were charging me?

So done with BB&T...In the process of swapping now.

I just fell prey to the $2.00 per call charge as well. I was mistakenly charged twice for a purchase, and customer service told me that I needed to call back once an hour to make sure that they removed the incorrect overdraft fees after the charge was removed... I had to call back 3 times because the customer service rep gave the company the wrong fax number to send the removal authorization to... and then lo and behold was charged $6 today for calls to customer service. Unbelievable! Charging people to call customer service... clearly I wouldn't be calling them if they hadn't fouled up my account! I'm getting out of BB&T so fast heads will spin.

Yeah I think that is unbelievable that they charge you to call customer service. I actually just found this out myself when i checked my bank online and discovered a $2.00 PHONE24 charge. called and asked what it was...then they informed me it was for calling...so great, I just incurred another $2.00 charge! I am switching banks ASAP!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Rudeness by employees

I'm a frequent customer at this bank. The company i work for also has its account here. They prefer we use this location. For the past eight years i have made several trips a week to this location. It was always a very friendly atmosphere. The last three weeks when i go through the drive - thru their are two ladies angela collins and tiffany. They are very rude. They ignore me, they are treating me like i'm an inconvenience. They finish conversations with each other before opening the drawer. This has happened several times. At first i thought maybe they were having a bad day but i feel that there just rude. I had started coming in but sometimes it's not convenient. I hope this will not be ignored, i'm really considering going somewhere else. I'm always friendly and expect to be treated the same.

You that think the employees at bb&t are so nice... listen up! we have done business with bb&t for over 20 years. we received a letter from bb&t informing us that they were going to cancel our life insurance on both of us for our home mortgage loan. they told in the letter that if we had any questions to come in and talk to the mortgage loan officer at our branch bank. ok... this is what she told, "you own a mobile home and you can't get a loan anywhere else and we can't give you a new loan" we are going to cancel every life insurance on all home mortgages. "if you want to pay your old loan off you can sell your car". I received a sum of money from an inheritance and I purchased a van and our home mortgage payments were being made on time and there was no reason for her to tell me what we lived in and what I could sell to pay off our home. it may not be a brick home, but every time anyone turns on the news, a brick home is burning to the ground and if that is not enough... a tornado, hurricane, etc. will take down a brick home just like any other dwelling and business, including banks.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Predatory banking practices

I am a disabled veteran, and since 5/21/2007, bb&t has raped me for over $987.00 in nsf fees, when I have had a positive balance, and while they were sitting on cash deposits, and now we are in survival mode trying to stop their feeding frenzy... I am writing letters as we speak to the attorneys general of florida, georgia and north carolina, as well as the fdic to complain about their predatory business practices.

If there is a way to band together and stop them, then i'm in, but I doubt we will ever be able to stop them, until a congressman or senator is raped by them... Then watch how fast they straighten up...

If any of you figure it out, let me know!

P. S. I am told that 6 cases warrants a class-action lawsuit, is anyone interested?

We have been working overseas and our pay has been deposited into a foreign account, therefore our business account went into a dormant status without notifying us. Since we assumed we still had access to our money, this December we transferred 13K from our other BBT account to this supposed dormant account and wrote a check from it for the IRS as not to get penalties for underpayment. We found out that the check to the IRS was denied. We have looked at the BBT Commercial bank agreement and it does not cover this. My Question is if the definition of a dormant account is one without a transaction, the transfer was indeed an allowed transaction. I was told that it was a withdrawal that was needed by the branch, but deposits were accepted. Furthermore in talking with the bank employees "complaint department" and branch both said that we would have to go in to branch to change this and get our account restored and the check to the IRS resent. We are overseas and unable to do so and now we are without the funds in our other account to pay the IRS. I think this is illegal any thoughts or lawyers out there that would provide us information?

I had the same issue. They put a 3 day hold on a check that was drawn off of their own branch, after i was told it would be available immediately. I had a recurring charge go pending while the check was there. I got the NSF fee the same day the pending charge posted...but the deposit had already gone through? something is wrong...how can you charge a NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS fee when its at your won discretion to hold the funds!

I agree with you. We neeed to start a grass roots movement against the banks o f this country to try and bring these problems to the attention of our government. If that doesn't help, we need to get the citizens of this great country involved in a national boycott of the banks. Let's all open accounts at the credit unions!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) - They will flat ruin you!

I have had access to my direct-deposited funds on the same day, but the online banking is a big problem. It is true that you cannot know your actual balance online, particularly if you use the debit card. It seems the balance only reflects a nominal portion or maybe a percentage of the actual amount debited and it won't post the full amount or where it went...
