We bank at Home Bank before it was taken over by BB&T. Never a problem. At first we didn't have any problems with BB&T. Then the trouble started. First off I have maintained checking accounts at various banks for over 30 years and never had this much trouble.

The problems started after my husband first did a math error and did cause a problem, but it was caught before any checks went thru. We corrected the error, made deposits and had no NSF's. After that is when the problems started.

I always keep extra money in the accounts not written down in the register and I keep a close check on our accounts. I am doing weekly checks on the website and looking thru all receipts and make sure everything is written down. In our personal account when I wrote a check, I would round up to the nearest dollar amount, no worries about small math errors when the cents column is all zero's.

Well, with all this we have still bounced a check, they did refund the overdraft fee, their mistake and we have had mysterious $5 fees taken out that the bank has yet to explain. They hold large checks and post small ones sometimes on the same day they were written. In the past month since our accounts have been low, they have held our auto deductions for almost a week longer and posted all small transactions immediately. I think they were trying to catch us so they could zap a NSF on us. They even started to deduct a auto deduct a week ahead of time and after I did a deposit it mysteriously disappeared. It wouldn't have caused us to overdraft, but it would have been close.

We have lost over $400 in our business account and just since November we have mysteriously lost about $80 in our personal account. I have checked and rechecked the numbers and I can get our account either on the penny or with $1 of the bank statements.

I have told my husband as soon as possible we are going to switch accounts, enough is enough, his business account can't stand losing any more money and neither can our personal with this economy and his work situation.

I have a mortgage with BB&T NEVER again. My husband and I both lost our full time jobs through no fault of our own, two years ago I started to default and also started applying for a modification through BB&T. I"m on my 7th or 10th application now and the entire time they deny me and charge me fees for numerous things. Just got another denial letter and the reason every time is I haven't resolved my hardship. I wouldn't need a modification if I could resolve my hardship. Spoke to a lawyer and he said this is not a HAMP guideline. Along with my last denial letter I also received another modification application to reapply and they are still charging fees. I think after the very first modification application it should be illegal for them to continue to charge fees. Would love to join in a class action lawsuit or sue myself.

I have been a customer with BB&T and needless to say that this bank is very unprofessional with the way they conduct business, and with the way they treat their customers (Especially the customer service call center).

I have been slammed with outrageous NSF fees. The problem is that I had placed CASH in my account to cover charges that I had did on my credit card. I asked the teller if this was going to cover anything pending. He lied right to my face and told me yes. The very next day the money was gone and I had several NSF fees. This is not the first time that BB&T has done this. I admit I have made mistakes in the past regarding my account and took the blame when need. However the past two times this has happened was not my fault. I made sure there was money in my account to cover my ###. Cash is not good enough to BB&T until they make sure they can get their damn hands in my honey pot.

When I call into the customer service center of BB&T to try to handle this situation; I was basically told 'Oh well, perhaps you should conduct your business elsewhere' What kind of customer service is this? I am highly pissed and because I can't trust my money in BB&T hands, I have already switched bank accounts. I have been with other banks in the past and have never had issues like this. I highly recommend anyone who is a customer with BB&T seek other banking methods.

It is completely understandable that people, such as myself, make mistakes. I made a mistake by banking with BB&T. They lie, steal, and commit fraud. I have already begun making a report to the FDIC; and I will also be filing a report with BB&T Corporate headquarters. If someone would like to share with my their situation- please do. I feel that people should stand up for them selves regardless of how big a company is. This is what companies want- they think people will just blow hot air; but assume nobody will do anything about it. So these companies (BB&T included) continue to get away with unprofessional behavior.

I mistakenly opened a BB and T account for local use, even though I still kept my USAA account. I am closing BB and T. 2 months of nightmarish mistakes. First week I had the account, deposited 700 dollars in CASH and they still hadnt deposited it in over a week. They didnt 'know what I was talking about until I actually showed up with the deposit slip that THEY printed showing the 700 dollars on it. AND it was before 2 PM, so should have been deposited SAME DAY.
Also, if your check card is stolen or used fraudulently, they will not do a damn thing about it. They make YOU call all the companies to try and get your money back. Have NEVER dealt with such horrible banking practices.

BB&T is the worst bank I am on social security and A small pension, I have no money to spare, but this BB&T bank has ripped me off for way to long it seems like every month they take money and dont explain it to me I have called them in Lexington Ky and they were so rude to me on the phone. I kept track of the amount I was spending on my atm card and it was nowhere they amount I get per month, when I went to buy groceries my card was denied. I need to get my money back I cant have over draft fees every month I dont have acsess to my money it goes into some kind of disappearing account. What can I do, I tried to call and they have this menu now that I am unable to talk to A person.

Oh, and btw, the bank blames the merchants for this one. Calling those posts, " Soft and Hard posts" placed by the merchant. Funny, that merchants don't do that on any of my other four accounts.

Had they deducted the 96 permanently, and not returned it to the available balance, that would have avoided the misunderstanding. It is the bank who was being deceptive.

Just for clarification, the inaccurate balance is only one of the many many tactics that they use. I have four other bank accounts that we use very aggressivley, and get no charges because the online balances are accurate. I would like to know what married couple keeps a hand written log succinct and accurate when both use a debit card frequently through out the day and work different hours of the day etc...

I do think that is what they are doing. I have kept documentation for over two years, and will be launching a full investigation in the near future. I am not working right now so I finally have the time to fight the battle. I am sure they are counting on people noto having time. Back then, I sent a formal complaint through the program bank manager, and never got a response. I have contacted congress and have been invited to participate in an investigation, I have also joined a class action suit. One of the laws I have read about, but will revisit, but one in particular, is that they are not supposed to hold checks and then charge overdraft fees based on a check that they are holding, and unwilling to clear, so that your debits can't go through.

I know, I have suspected the same thing about them sitting and watching, and assisting with the overdraft fees to occur. Thier online banking fluctuates your balance which adds confusion, particularly if you are using a joint account. For example, you see a 96 dollar item being deducted online one day, and then it returns to the available balance the next day, so being the spouse, you assume it was just glitch, and that the 96 is actually available. So you make a purchase, and then the 96 disappears again. They have every trick in the book to create overdraft fees. Another fact that is worth looking into is how BB and T is generating a ton of money in comparison to other banks. Anyhow, keep writing those complaints, the consumer will prevail. There are also new laws coming out regarding opt out etc... to assist with the overdraft policies.

I went to BB&T for the conveince of a lot of banks around the area where I travel. The first month was the start of BB&Fee. Since then it has been a nightmare. I have been charged overdraft fees just about every month. I have got them to take back some of them but they have still cost me a fortune. Why does the banking industry check on there practices. The big deal is when they decide to post your deposits. They hold them back. When you go to the bank to staiten things out it is always your fault. These people are very hard to work with. I had to change banks to help my situation. Will not ever use BB&T again.

BBandT has been increasingly harder to work with and is extremely abusive on there charges and policies. Part of the problem with BB and T is they offer all these free "customer service" tools to help you but they do not tell you the full story. For instance, they offer a daily balance alert, which emails the acct holder their balance. But this info is not correct. They also offer online services where you can see pending transaction. These aren't correct either. Gas is not included in pending and certain debits, like an insurance payment auto debit, are not shown there. If you ever do make a mistake the BB and T policies will really get you. Let's say you use you have $100 in the bank and use your debit card for $10 in gas, $10 meal, and a $10 bill payment. That is all out of your account and you are showing everywhere (at the atm, online, ABD on bbt phone service) a balance of $70. But then that evening a check you forgot, an autodraft, whatever, is taken out for $105. You are now overdrawn, your mistake, 1 overdraft charge as a penalty...wrong! BB &T actually will take that draft and place it in front of the debits of that previous day and overdraft the lot of them! There reasoning is they feel that was a pending payment BEFORE you made those other transactions, so instead of a $39 charge you have a $160 charge. This is FACT, I can unfortunately show it. Other practices you may not know: withdrawing money from an ATM will result in a $39 charge if you are overdrawn. They will not alert you to the issue, they will give you the money and receipt and then charge an overdraft (yes, even at a BBT ATM). Have an issue and need help?, BB and T gives you 2 phone calls a month, free, if you call again you will be charged $2, and yes, that push you to overdraw also. Do you want to have them stop your debit card if you don't have funds, they will not do that either (ask your local manager, company line is: We don't want to return someones mortgage payment and have them lose there house). Best of luck dealing with these guys, but they should be brought up on charges for what they do.

BB and T bank tried to rush me into taking a chip loan. The balked at letting me see the loan paperwork and didn't want me to look at the terms of the loan until the closing day. They, and Keller williams, said i'd be protected by the lawyers (old republic title company.)
I insisted on the paperwork being given to me ahead of time-all of it. About a week before the closing they gave me a couple of sheets of paper that were filled with mistakes and blanks.
Nobody would answer my questions. They said they'd do it at the closing. I said I am not signing this as is. They said it's standard and not negotiable. I tried to get concrete answers from my lawyer via email (they said they could explain easier over the phone but when I emailed them and copied my old lawyer in NJ they emailed me back explaining they are not MY lawyer but the banks. Funny, I was led to believe otherwise.)
Anyway. i wanted fixed rate and they didn't put it fixed. I wanted a 15 year mortgage and they gave me a 30...and they were going to "explain the paperwork" on the day of the closing. Meaning I wasn't supposed to read it. My realtor from Keller Williams said she hadn't read hers. Is that common?
I said forget it and they said I HAD to sign or I was doing something illegal. A standard contract is supposed to have contingencies for the event the buyer doesn't like the loan terms-mine didn't have it. now they are all suing me for the earnest money which i refuse to release as I think the bank should pay for not sending the loan terms when I was approved-as promised, for not explaining the offer was the same as locking me into the agreement (why would I do that pror to knowing the loan terms?).
They are threatening to sue, or have possibly but I didn't know it as I wound up homeless because of them and only just got mail from 2 months ago.
Beware of BB and T, Keller Williams, AND old republic.
This happened in TN. All of them made huge, glaring mistakes (or it was on purpose).

I would like to join a class action lawsuit. I will be running a letter in the news and observer on Sunday. I was told byStephen Mcmillian and Julie Miller that they dont stop an electronic swipe even if you didnt ask for overdraft protection. They just charge you 35.00 for 5.00 or 3.00. That makes 400.00 out of my unemployment check in 2 weeks for BB&T. Well ### BB&T the buck stops here.
