I have had Long Term Care for our child for years. Now he is an adult and had had a breakdown, Paranoid, Cognative Disabilities after finding his frontal lobe is degenerating. He also has a 17 mm Pineal Cyst in his brain. He suffers from Complex Migraine Syndrome.

I contacted Bankers and asked if they would cover his having a caregiver in home after his breakdown. They said yes and also approved the company I chose.

When applying for the claim the started out with not being able to cover mental illness. Then it progressed to not being able to cover anything but cognative disablility. When we proved that was one of his issues they moved on to refusal to pay us back for not having the right kind of personal care.

No matter what we prove they stonewall us with another reason why they should not have to pay.

According to my agent, she is finding that Bankers Life and Casualty cronically does this and is being sued for this issue all over the country.

Beware of Bankers Life and Casualty. You can never speak to the same person twice, they constantly loose your documentation and make you resend your paperwork several times then deny you anyway.

Having the same problem with the long term care policy for my mom. They owe around 8000. My dad is going to go broke. He paid on these policies for almost 30 years. I think it may be time to go to the media. They find every reason not to pay. I am going to report them to the Kansas Insurance commissioner to start with. Reading all the comments this could be a long haul. Two years ago I took out a short term care policy that I think I will drop.

I thoroughly agree with all statements from the people complaining about Bankers Life. My Mom signed up for this 10 years ago and had to pay a large upfront fee to get into this, then she has to pay them over $1700 every year to stay valid with this policy. BUT...they said that she quit paying, but the current Rep in Rockford, IL either lost her check or never turned it in for her yearly payment. They tried to cancel and we had to get a lawyer involved then. Now she is with 24/7 care at her home and they have given some Bull story about not having the CNA's certified, agency licensed, and whatever. We do have a CNA, also Peak Professional Home Care as the agency. They keep putting us off and my Mother is ready to go to Dan Kane...a Chicago lawyer. The stress is too much for her and myself as I have been trying to get this taken care of. My doctor has put me on stress reliever medication as I am not sleeping over this mess. She has gone thru over $50, 000 off her own money and they still keep putting her off. READY FOR A LAWSUIT !

A SCAM...BIG BIG SCAM...I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY FOR FOUR MONTHS TO GET MY DADS CLAIMS PAID AND THERE IS ALWAYS AN EXCUSE AS TO WHY THEY ARE NOT PAYING...DO NOT BUY BANKERS LIFE...DO NOT BUY BANKERS LIFE POLICES. IF ANYONE HAS ANYONE OUT THEIR TO HELP ADVICATE PLEASE CONTACT ME AT CK062902@BAK.RR.COM ...THE SAD THING IS I SELL INSURANCE AND I TOLD THEM I WOULD NEVER SELL THEIR POLICIES. I HAVE CALLED METLIFE, GUARDIAN AND OTHER LTC POLICIES AND THEY SAID YES HIS CLAIMS SHOULD BE PAID. THEY ARE STATING BECAUSE MY DAD HAS MEDICARE ADVATANGE AND THEY PAID A PORTION OF THE BILL THEY WILL NOT PAY HIM UNTIL HE IS FULLY RESPONSIBLE. WELL HE HAS BEEN AND WHEN HE LEAVES THE SKILLED WE HAVE TO PAY 100% OUT OF OUR POCKET. THEY STILL SAY THEY CANNOT PAY THIS. THIS IS A REIMBURSABLE POLICY (MEANING ANY EXPENSES ARE TO BE REIMBURSED BY THE LTC). AGAIN ANY ADVISE OR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THIS IS A RIP OFF. MY DAD HAS BEEN PAYING THIS POLICY FOR 11 YEARS!

I am currently in the process of doing a loan modification with them and have found a few things a little shady, but compared to what else is out there...there aren't too many options. They recently offered to reduce a payment that had accumulated due to non-payment for a few months. They answered all of my questions and I am moving forward with them. I have done my research on Google and every website attached to them and can't find much information. The head attorney checks out with the State of FL, so if anyone has any information that could help me out, PLEASE pass along and help others in the same situation. I could not find the F Rating on the BBB site.

I have to agree with your frustration. I just needed some information on my policy; basic coverage stuff. Simple, right? No, you reach Jamaica when you call the 800 number. They do speak english, but the accent is so heavy that I can not understand them. They did not understand me well either. I was finally given the name and number of a "local" office - it was 250 miles away. After speaking with the "local" office, I was informed that there is a closer "local" office, only 45 miles away. When the agent called they were helpful and spoke good old american english.

You are not alone, my parents purchased a LTC policy from Bankers Life aprox 20 years ago. At that time is was a very opened end policy. My mother who is 78 at this time really needed assisted living and I was able to place her in a wonderful community in August 2010 and filed the claim. Since that time I have been denied twice. I have called the Consumer Relations Department : Debbie Wistehuff 17 times with no responce, she failes to return any calls as well as the agent and the staff in the Rockford location. If you do get a call back it's not from the agent responsible and they state they dont have any information. This company prays on the elderly who are in need of the services that they thought would be covered and are led to belive that they will be. This company is a scam and operate under fraudulent claims to cover long term care. I have alerted the BBB and also filed complaints with the Springfield office of insurance. Do not do business with Bankers life. I have also alerted our States Attorneys Office of the fraud aganist the elderly. It has also come to my attention the there is a company called Advocate Law Group that is only in practice is to assist in the fraud practiced by Bankers Life. Another caregivers daughter.

I am not the only one having difficulty getting Banker's Life LTC insurance to pay! I have been successful in getting payment, but only after much paperwork, and stress, and long delays. My mother purchased her policy in 1998. About 6 yrs later, we noticed she was having memory problems. For more than a couple years she was paying the premium, and hundreds of dollars a month in home care costs. The policy wouldn't cover until she had dependencies in ADL's, (activities of daily living), bathing, dressing, etc. It is frustrating to call the company with questions, as some of people I have talked to are not helpful, but some have been. How many people have purchased a LTC policy, paid the premium, and are not collecting when they could be, due to not being able to deal with the complexities of getting a claim paid? I am a nurse, and have worked in home care for over thirty years, but it is still difficult and stressful. Another caregiver daughter

I think "No matter what we prove they stonewall us with another reason why they should not have to pay." says it all. They are stonewalling with payment for LTC about my mother's stroke. I just got my third cryptic "it will be another 7 to 10 days. Bankers long term care insurance--What a scam!

The reason you never speak to the same person twice is because of the high turn over Bankers Life and Casualty has. I agree with previous comment, your son needs to apply for Social Security Disability and for State Aid.

It sounds like your son needs to apply for Social Security Disability/SSI.
