Avis fraudulent damage charge

Returned a rental car to Avis Amsterdam 9 April, 2012. Posted hours said they opened at 7AM, waited nearly an hour past that time, no employees. Took pictures of every panel of car to show it was clean and undamaged, left keys in box with note to call me. When they called 3 hours later, said there was a scratch on door. I asked them to take a picture of damage and email or send to my phone. They refused. I said I was getting a taxi to their agency to view alleged damage. They said they were rerenting car. I asked them to hold vehicle for 20 minutes so I could see alleged scratch, they refused. They charged 252.00 dollars to my VISA for alleged repair. I refused charge with VISA and again asked AVIS for proof of damage. VISA said that merchant "refused artibration" and put the charge back on my card. This rental agency runs this scam by not being open when promised then making up a fradulent damage claim. VISA is helping them, they never made AVIS provide proof to substantiate damage claim.

Avis budget rent a car breaches contract

Budget rent a car breaches contract, strands mom & 2 daughters.

Saturday night, june 9, 2012, the mother and daughters disembarked their airline at san diego airport secure in their pre-confirmed, credit card transacted and charged, contract – with budget prepaid confirmed contract number – for a budget rent a car to be waiting for them.

The budget agent refused to release their car, agent demanded cash plus $200 surcharge; alternate credit cards and check were refused. Again and again the agent demanded cash or no car.

Traveling under standard safety precautions, the mother did not carry enough cash to cover such a large demand.

The budget agent laughed at the mother’s pleas for help and safe transportation to their motel.

Budget breached the prepaid, existing contract on which a credit card charge for the full cost had already been conducted and confirmed.

Budget stranded the mother and two daughters, at night, on the streets of san diego – without safety or ground transportation and without a shred of concern for their safety.

For six hours phone calls were made to budget by the mother and family members around the country for resolution to the issues with the same universal answer from budget, “can’t help you”!

A concerned female san diego airport employee offered the mother and daughters a ride to their motel.

After the series of complaints by the extended family, budget did reimburse the mother’s credit card for the charges previously made to cover the car rental contract they breached.

Avis hiring scam - hires during peak season deceptive to employees

Potential employees need to be made aware of avis budget group's ridiculous hiring scam. Avis will hire people during their PEAK seasons...they will go through this huge MASS HIRING of people, and hire and hire. They are a really deceptive company- they make employees feel as if they are on probation and upon succsesful sales goals and coming to work and being a good employee they will pass probation and be a permanent employee. They make it seem as if this is an actual reality for them when the truth is, they MOSTLY hire people JUST for peak season and it's only temporary employment. They don't tell people that they most likely will end up getting fired or laid off and many times with NO good reason, for there is no standard by which avis budget group will hire or fire people. They will keep lazy bad employees, or even very bad people, bad sales people and just some of the worst employees you can imagine, and get rid of good employees too. they will keep BAD sales reps, people who hate to sell, and people who dont even want to be there and fire good employees who really wanted to work there. EVerything avis seems to do is backwards twisted and weird, and they have NO ethics at all or standards. There is no standard by which they hire or fire, and they will get RID of hired employees BEFORE THEIR 90 DAYS IS UP.

The problem with the company is that they extensively train people, and put them through this huge training only to fire them when their peak season is up, before 90 days, and they are left with way too many employees and have to let people go home they are so overstaffed. It's a really shady bad company the way they do these practices and run very poorly. Lying to, deceiving and scamming employees and customers seem to be the forte of this company. They apparently lie to and deceive EVERYONE they can, not just the customers. They teach their sales reps to lie and worse, they reward shady tactics and bad sales reps, liars cheaters, and punish good harder workers. I witnessed good hard workers let go, while they are proud to have scam artists, and even aggressive crazy people working there who are bullies who bully others stay and continue with their bad tactics. They reward bullies, bad sales reps who are bullies, and abuse of employees.

Most potential employees have NO CLUE they are just being "USED" basically by this company for up till 90 days and then will be LET GO before their benefits start. Avis will try to make up ANY erroneous reason just to let people go once they no longer have any use for them. This is important for people to know as if some of us had known this we wouldn't have even started with the company- basically they make you think you aer starting a career with them when that is NOT the case, you will waste 3 months of your life working for this company and also working like a slave, because while you aer on PROBATION...you will be used like a tool. They put fear in new hires to do well during probation...out of the expectation they will get hired permanently so the poor new hires, will struggle, come to work every single day..on time..even come to work while sick, ill, anything...get used by the managers AND other employees who bully them...the NEW HIRES will be forced to take ALL the customesr by the other employees who are bullies and jerks. The regular employees will mistreat the new hires, abuse them or even yell at them and make them take customers while the "regular" permanent employees sit in the back and chat like the lazy idiots they are. This is just a corrupt company run by VERY corrupt unethical people. There are NO ETHICS at the company whatsoever... even MANAGERS will bully new hires and mistreat them and even make new hires run back and forth working hard slaving away. The new hires TAKE thsi absue thinking, they are on probation and have no choice so they take advantage of these people. It's a really disgusting place to work full of corruption bad managers, the worst managers and really bad employees.

The company Avis likes to reward the bad employees, the cheaters the liars and managers turn away from their bad practices, while new hires get mistreated or lied about. Worse, new hires who are forced to take customer after customer, yet if they stand back to not take a customer they will get YELLED at...while the regular employees are sitting in the back chatting. Avis is full of BULLIES and very bad people. There are sales reps who yell at and mistreat the new hires or other employees and nothing is done about it. There are lies being told bad mouthing...no one cares. But worse, avis USES new employees terribly, makes them feel that if they work hard during probation, take all the abuse, come to work everyday they will be permanent employees...NOT the case. You could be the best employee and avis will still get rid of you and it seems if a person IS a great employee avis gets rid of them but if they are a bad person and very shady avis will keep them. Before the 90 days is up avis WILL get rid of MANY people and for no reason at all and there is no standard by which avis keeps people-- the company has NO ethics or standards unfortunately. So there could be an honest wonderful employee who is great with customers and avis boots them, and i witnessed the WORST shadiest sales reps...bad people who lie to customers cheat them-- they call in sick-- avis keeps these people. So just remmeber that if you get hired by avis DURING their peak season mass hiring watch out...because you are just benig used and even if you work hard and take ALL their abuse and mistreatment...you will STILL get let go, while joe schmoe ### employee will remain there. this is honestly why avis is such a bad company-- they hire and keep only the most dishonest unethical people ever...also the permanent employees will call in sick WHENEVER they want and this is OK with avis. They call in sick to keep their sales numbers up which is ridiculous...and avis allows this. However, the poor people on probation who call in sick get chastized...and many have been known to come in sick while havign broken bones, being very sick. Some ridiculous employees will tell the avis new hires to even stay at work if they are deathly sick...and again for what reason? so avis will end up letting them go at the end... if you want to talk about a really [censored] company, this is it. I witnessed many employees come to work EVERYDAY work super hard, come while VERY sick...(while others called in sick for no reason), and still get fired for NO reason. this is a terrible corrupt company beware...peak season is a bad idea to get hired onto because you get used like slaves by avis, ABUSED to no end and then FIRED just before your 90 days is up...avis are USERS ABUSERS beware...!

Avis lies about prices

I arrived in Jacksonville, FL for a wedding of a close friend on March 21st. I arrived at the Avis counter at JAX at approximately 11:35. I had pre-booked a midsize car, Dodge Avenger or similar according to the website, with my flight through Orbitz. Upon arrival, a young man at the counter looked up my reservation and said, "Let's see if we can find you a car." After typing something into to 2 computers, he said, "I have a Corolla and a Mustang both in your class." I then said, "Is the mustang automatic?" And he said yes. I told him, "I'll take that if it's in my class. I think Toyotas are rolling death traps." He laughed and started the processing. He asked me if I wanted to pay $27.99 for loss/damage waiver (making it sound as though it were a one time payment) and I said that was fine because I knew I would be doing a lot of driving and wanted to cover my bases.

While he had me signing the paperwork, he conveniently began chatting with me about why I was traveling and about my insurance carrier, USAA, and about how he has a classic car and has State Farm and the coverage is outrageous, blah blah. I signed admittedly without paying all that much attention because I had already paid for the car and because he told me I was simply saying I had insurance. I left and went on my way. On Sunday the 25th, I looked at my agreement for a phone number to see if I could have the car a few extra hours the next day because I was trying to get a later flight out the next day and saw that they were saying my total estimated charges were $275.74 for an upgrade, etc, and $139.95 for the loss/damage waiver! I had only paid $202 for the entire rental! I called and no one was at the counter in the airport so I got a national rep.

I explained that I was curious if they would charge me for a few extra hours and then mentioned the charges. He explained I had agreed to an upgrade and I stated I most certainly had not and told him the play by play of what transpired at the rental counter. I also said that what the agent did was illegal, a bait and switch, and that scamming young woman was disgusting and if he wanted to be part of it, he could get me someone else! He said he would take care of the charges. I then called my husband and told him what was going on and he stated he had noticed a charge for the total estimated charges listed on the rental agreement ($275.74) on our card and that he hadn't mentioned it because he thought it was a hold.

When I returned the car at 4 am on the 26th, I told the lot person what had gone on and that I also wanted a receipt stating that car was returned in the condition it had been rented since no one had inspected the car before I left and I did not wish to be held responsible for something that was already there. I was then given a receipt for $139.95. I asked what was going on and re-explained about the non upgrade. She gave me a $50 adjustment bringing total to $119.50, and said that the $50 would take care of the upgrade fee. The upgrade fee was $20/a day which would make it $100 not $50.

I was traveling all day so I called first thing this morning (27th) and spoke to Marilyn about the incident. She told me that since I had just returned the car, the information would not be available for at least 48 hours, but she was somehow able to see that I had already been given a $50 adjustment (half of the upgrade fee that I never agreed to)! I've been trying to reach the actual agents in the airport to no avail and of course, the agent didn't have a name tag. I intend to complain to every agency I can and pursue any legal action I can!

Avis bait and switch scam

I rented a car from Avis, as they are our preferred vendor despite being priced higher than other companies (kickbacks). Long story short, due to traveling for work, I called our travel agency to book a car with a power seat due to being petite. As it can't be written on the reservations, they in turn called to arrange that (I've been told).

When I arrived in San Diego, my car didn't have a power seat; but the rep there said, "For a few bucks a day, I can find you one with a power seat." Ok, then we had a great conversation, he hit me up for a job with my company, etc. Then he handed the paperwork and said, "Sign here, initial, initial." Honestly, my bad was I didn't look at what he had done. I admit that; however, I assumed a corporate contract and good conversation as well as trusting a large company would mean $5/day, not $75/day on top of the rental fees!

When I dropped off my car and saw the total cost, I was floored. But rushing to my plane, I was unable to address it. I've since called the corporate office and emailed and even contacted the rental location to get a resolution. Corporate office very coolly said, "Well, you signed it." Yes, I take responsibility for that, but in hindsight, the rep's conversation and quick contract signing weren't an accident. I asked why it was such a high upgrade fee, and I was told it was due to being done at the location. I countered that I'd requested a power seat with Concur, and they have a recording of it. Well, that doesn't seem to matter. They also said they'd send this to the "local manager" but were "unable" to give me that manager's name.

I'm appalled that a national company such as Avis would stand behind their reps who flat out lie and misrepresent the contract as well as impose a fee so high. This isn't even my money; it's the company's. But it's the dishonest business tactics that are an issue. I would never have someone represent my company who can't speak the truth. The rep knew the exact amount per day but still chose to say "a few bucks a day." I don't know about you, but to me, $75 does not equal a few of anything! Be very careful and do not book with Avis!

I had the same problems with AVIS bait and switch. They leave it up to the customer to complain they substitute to a lower class car with no price adjustment. The rental car location in Overland Park Ks did it to me twice and it was a huge argument to explain that the Ford Edge was a standard SUV and a Ford Escape is an intermediate class. I was offered a Kia Sorrento and Nissan Rogue which are still not part of Ford Edge class. The fact that you cannot speak with them rationally about it makes me think it was intentional. Shameful

Avis - avis is a scam liars cheats

avis is a HUGE scam, I rented from avis recently, and I told them I did not want their insurance, my own covered it. Well when I returned my car, they had charged me for the insurance!! It was 450.00?? I said I did not want it, and the sales person just added it on. I had to fight with a *** manager there and they took it off. So then I find out later, that...

Avis extra charges without knowledge

avis case number: 9826553
I rented a car from AVIS LAX via internet.
I realized that Avis charged some extras from my credit card. I did not want any extra insurance and equipment. At the counter, assistant tried to sell many extra options to me more than 30 minutes. It was so annoying, and I was so bored that I told exactly "I do not want anything else except what I bought from internet. Please just give me my car". Otherwise why would he warn me and ask whether I understood the risk! If he made those extra insurances, he made it without my consent.
I did not suppose that they would add something to contract although I insist not to buy anything else. It took a very long time to try to sell some extra. I just saw the digital signing screen, I trusted to such a worldwide company and just signed (they did not show the contract). Though I did not accept any extra, the assistant should check some of them.
I objected to them (Avis and also priceline.com) to pay the extras back. But they did not interested, and unfortunately I had to pay the extras without my knowledge.
I learned that Avis made the same thing to many others.
Obviously Avis cheats.

I recently rent an AVIS car through priceline.com and paid in full, from June 24, 2014 and returned on July 1st, 2014with a full tanks of gas !Usually when i
returned the car there was attendants who check out the cars, but this
time I saw none on the parking, and everyone have to lease their cars
hope to get back to the airport, Suddenly, today I saw a charged on my credit card of 35.62 $ I called credit card Company to dispute, and Avis response was for the gas !So why I returned the car on July 1st, and 17 days later they decided to charged me on the gasoline ? that is totally FRAUD, So the lessons learned here is: Almost all the big rental care are in the shady businesses, they are out to rip off the consumers had a similar FRAUD with HERTZ couple years ago and they back off after the complaints when i filed, No apologized at all ! Very surprised with a big company like that !

Avis charge for no smoking violation

After more than 10 years as a devoted customer with prefered customer status I have been wronged by the management in place at the Natural Bridge Lambert International St.Louis Airport Avis site. I was charged for alleged violation of the no smoking policy. For all the years that I have been a prefered customer I have accepted those times when the car I was issued smelled of smoke or was dirty or that although listed as a prefered customer who should have his/her vehicle ready and posted on the prefered customer board, I accepted still having to wait until someone appeared at the prefered customer booth to get a vehicle. It has been my practice toclean the vehicle while in use and prior to return to avoid such charges, yet even with the inconsistency of the detailing crew and the ineffeciency of the clerks responsible for rental information the management of this site because of my previous complaints sought to charge and hold monies from my credit card. My name is Cleotha Watkins my wizard # is U5L76F I HAVE A CLEAR DECADE PLUS OF RENTAL HISTORY WITH MORE THAN AVERAGE RENTAL SERVICE REQUESTED AND PAID FOR WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I AM CURRENTLY CHARGED 250.00 TO MY CREDIT CARD FOR ALLEGED SMOKING VIOLATION. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS UNTIL I ATTEMPTED TO RENT A VEHICLE AFTER RETURNING A VEHICLE MONDAY JAN.16 2012. THE CLAIM WAS ON A CAR RENTED DEC 18 2011.MY REASON FOR CONTINUED RENTAL AT THIS TIME AND AS SHOWN IN MY CUSTOMER HISTORY IS THAT MY CAR IS NO LONGER SERVICABLE AND UNTIL I PURCHASE A NEW ONE I HAVE ALWAYS DEPENDED ON AVIS TO PROVIDE ME THAT SERVICE, YET NOW IT APPEARS THAT THE SERVICE IS WITHOUT FAIR AND COMPETENT MANAGEMENT STAFF AND WHEN A CUSTOMER COMPLAINS THEY ARE CONSPIRED AGAINST AND ANY POLICY THAT CAN BE MANIPULATED IS USED TO CREATE A HOSTILE ENVIORNMENT AND CAUSE GOOD CUSTOMERS TO SEEK OTHER COMPETITORS FOR SERVICE.I CONTEND THAT IT WAS NOT UNTIL I COMPLAINED ABOUT MY NAME NOT BEING ON THE PREFERED CUSTOMER FASTBREAK BOARD AND THE OVERCHARGE OF A PREVIOUS RENTAL TO THE MANAGER THAT I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THESE PENALTIES AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Avis billing for damage not cause

We rented a wknd Avis vehicle. Not being regular "renters" we accepted all things in "good faith", even got an "upgraded" vehicle for the same price if we drove with an automatic, so we thought all was good.We didnt "INSPECT"the car, we honestly didn't think we had to&weren't made aware of ANY prior damages either. We never left the car unattended in public, parked it in a locked garage, never took it "off-road"&DIDN'T damage anything.Upon returning the car, the "inspector" made us aware of damage at the edge of the car, we inspected it, but the damage had rust on it, which couldn't have happened over 2days(we were inland), so filled in the forms as a mere formality so that Avis could "investigate the matter".On Tuesday a further R1000+ was deducted, on top of the security deposit. On phoning Avis their systems said 2messages were left informing us of that.NOPE, none received, we triple checked! I asked for an independent investigation, but car was apparently at panel beaters already.I understand that it's a "he said-she said" situation and as the "clause" states: We are liable for damages caused whilst in our possession, but THAT damage didn't happen during our rental period!
"Avis- where money is more important than people" should be their new slogan. Look at how many complaints, similar in case of the Avis Cape Town International Airport branch.I think Avis is taking advantage of people(and clearly profiting from it)! They don't tell you, the customer, of ALL prior damage to a vehicle and then, (NOR do they keep record of ALL these 'damages').ALL of a sudden, upon returning your car, they "discover" 'new' damage that you ("according to their 'terms and agreements'")are liable for and then you get charged for it...EVEN when it's clear that it's OLD damage;and so does the next poor sod that unfortunately ALSO hires the same car, then "the same procedure as before".They too will be held accountable and so will the NEXT customer.AND then they will hide behind their TERMS&AGREEMENTS! Our rental car had already rusted at the place where we 'supposedly' damaged the car.Upon enquiring this matter, Jolene informed me that it is possible for rust to occur over the 2day time period that we hired the car!SERIOUSLY!? Don't fall for their tricks! They're crooks! I wonder how many other people they got with this scam?

Avis unsafe rental car

Avis Tampa rented us an unsafe car with rotten tires. It was a new Nissan Versa with about 10K miles on it. On the way to the airport, a rear tire blew out on the expressway on-ramp. Had it happened a minute later this could have ended up as a tragic incident. When the tire blew it was violent and took out a part of the rear quarter panel. The Avis tow truck driver said the tire was rotten and the car was unsafe. He was surprised that they let it go out. The office was very apologetic and offered to reimburse the rental (they never did). They also pushed us to fill out an "incident" report which they claimed was just a technicality. We were very distraught and had already missed our flights. 3 months later we received an "Accident claim" from Avis demanding that we pay for the repairs. On principle we are refusing. Avis never reimbursed us for the rental or other expenses and there never was an accident or police report. This was a case of negligence and lack of safety inspection by Avis's maintenance crew. This car was dangerous.

Avis charging extra fees

Had to get a rental car at the last minute due to a funeral out of town. A family member pre-paid for the rental on priceline on their card. When arriving at avis i knew there was going to be a $200 hold put on my card seperate from what was paid and that was fine. The lady at the counter went thru all the upgrade and fuel options and i told her more than once that i didnt want what wasnt already paid for since i dont use my debit card. I returned the car and went in to verify that my card wasnt going to be charged and they said that was correct. I now have a $160 charge on my card and when i called they said thats where i opted for extra daily coverage. I did not agree to that and after telling the lady repeatedly i didnt want anything extra to go on that card they still went ahead and added it in. They wont answer my phone calls and keep telling me a manager will call me back but im "out of luck." i have recieved no phone calls and feel like they took advantage of a situation in a time of grief. Im beyond angry and will do what it takes to make the situation known.

Avis erroneous charges almost $3,000

I was heading camping with my family for the weekend in a PA state park, and due to major storm warnings decided it would be smart to rent an SUV with four wheel drive. I made a reservation and picked up my vehicle no problem from 30th street station.

Several hours later upon arriving in the local town where the state park was located, we stopped to purchase some groceries for our weekend - in doing so I found that my checking account was overdrawn several hundred dollars.

Terrified I quickly loaded up my bank's mobile application on my iPhone to discover that not only did Avis charge me an initial balance for my rental; $182.40, but in addition charged me $1, 112.69, TWICE!

Furious I immediately called Avis who said they had no record of this charge as the amount made no sense. After a long time on hold, they conferenced in my bank who confirmed the amount and gave them instructions to fax over a request to remove the erroneous hold. I was told to give it an hour and call back.

We headed to our campsite, where I had no cell phone reception, so an hour later I had to drive up the road to a pay phone located outside the park's office. I called my bank who notified me that the hold was being reversed and the money would be credited back to my account again shortly. The rep then asked if I was aware that the charge had been run through twice? Shocked I said of course not. She then informed me that in order to have the second charge removed I would need to have another fax sent over specifying that 2 holds in the amount needed to be removed.

I called Avis back and after 20 minutes of holding got someone on the phone who had no record of my prior call or the scenario I was faced with. Frustrated I explained the scenario and was put back on hold. After close to 40 minutes on the phone I was informed that the fax had been sent and all would be well. I informed the rep that I understood and required a second fax to be sent, to which she replied that is not possible as she could not see the hold in her system. Again, we called my bank - only this time after my bank rep explained there were two charges there was no Avis rep to be found.

Getting extremely upset at this point I sent my family hiking without me and stayed at the phone booth to call back Avis. Again, I got a rep who had no knowledge of my situation as his system did not contain any notes on the matter, this time I asked for a reference number so I had something to provide them with going forward. He assured me that the fax would be sent and I should try back in an hour. After an hour and a half I called my bank to learn that the charge was still there.

beside myself at this point I called back Avis who again conferenced in my bank and seemed to smooth the whole thing over, I was told the credits would be on my account and that the bank system would update at midnight, relieved I left to head back to my campsite after almost 3 hours of dealing with the mess.

The next day I awoke to find the charge still on my account and even less information contained in my file (even with a reference number) than before. Worst of all once back in my hometown, with the car returned, I found myself still on the phone with Avis trying to find out where the, at this time 3 faxes, that were presumably sent to my bank went - since my bank had never received them.

I called the local Avis branch yet again to AGAIN speak with someone who with my case reference number, did not see any information besides a single phone call from 2 days prior that was 'resolved' by sending a fax. They also refused to believe that I still had an additional $1, 100 charge on my account since they could not see it in their system. At this point I took off of work and went to my bank where I had a customer service rep literally print up the transaction log and fax it on Bank letterhead to Avis. I then went to the Avis branch to confirm receipt, and deal with their puzzled faces when they realized they had charged me close to $2, 700 for a two day rental. They had no idea what to do.

After another hour at the local branch watching Avis staff walk in and out of the front desk area scratching their heads, I called my bank after I watched them send a fax through hopefully vindicating the erroneous charge. My bank then informed me that the hold was in fact not a hold but was "notched" for payment, and nothing could be done until it cleared or dropped off - which would not happen until the end of the month, almost 2 and half weeks later.

My bank account is still showing charges IN ADDITION to my rental fees for $1, 112.69 and I am told nothing can be done. Avis has AWFUL computer systems and INCOMPETENT staff, sorry but it's true. This has been overall one of the worst experiences of my life!

Avis lady who help me

The lady who help me was very unfriendly. 1st she was not in the office to help me. After about half an hour she show up. She didn't ask how she can help me. Her dressing code was also not proper she was dress in a t-shirt that fits 6months ago. I'm use to the ladies of Avis they are very friendly and they are a good add for their company. This lady or trump didn't have any manners. She don't know anything about it to be professional. She was very rude to my husband over the phone, he is a regular customer of Avis he rent twice a week a car from Avis. It so happens that his wallet was stolen on Oliver Tambo Airport and i try to organise a car from Jeffreys Bay Avis for him.

But i'm very disappointed.

Very unsatisfied with this lady. I dont use Avis anymore because of her. I am now with Europcar - Jeffreys Bay and i will never look back. They treat me with such generosity and respect. I can call them 19h00 and they will still assist me. Well done Europcar.

Avis scams and rip off

Avis car rental…who gave them the right to rip off people and how come there is no discussion or redress with their car rental policy. Hope the company disappears down it’s own filthy hole of lies, scams and rip offs. It’s counter staff are primed to foist unwanted extra charges using hard sell techniques, give misleading advice ( “its cheaper to bring the car back empty”) or just downright lie (“there is a 150 mm long scratch” no there is not and here is the photo to prove it. “sorry already entered into the computer” and finally “sorry you can’t leave a complaint with us as we don’t keep any forms here” AVIS go rot. Avoid at all costs!

Avis scam

I was charged an extra day for arriving 30 minutes after contract.

The Avis was closed but they knew I arrived at that time because an employee in Sears Auto, who shares the facility, told the Avis Manager but the Manager still charged.

My recommendation: Never do business with the Avis located in Sear Auto in Peabody, MA This is a franchised location.

The care little about the truth and they treated this Avis First member like trash.

While that seems to be harsh for just 30 minutes, you have to look at it from their perspective. Since the location was closed at that point, they may have lost a renter because they were depending on your car to be available for someone else's reservation. That and most rental contracts stipulate that the rental is completed once the vehicle has been inspected and the keys are in the hands of an employee, which isn't possible if the office is closed for the day. If I were you, I'd contact their customer service and complain. That may get you some kind of a refund that way.

Avis charged for damage not incurred

We rented a car through avis.com to be picked up and returned at the Tegel Airport in Berlin, Germany. When we arrived, they didn't have the car we rented so, after seeing that the car was too small, we upgraded. We understood that there was a fee increase. We also added insurance to our rental with the higher 1050 Euro deductible. The car was a 5 series BMW and it was great. When we returned our car to the Avis garage at 7:15 am there was no attendant and there was a sign instructing us to park in one of the stalls and proceed to the customer service desk on another level. We did so. We had filled the tank prior to returning the car. When we went to the customer service desk we were told what the fee would be and they took all of the paperwork back and gave us just the original rental agreement on the first car - the one we did not rent - we did not notice this until after we were home. We were told that there would be no one to check in our car for 45 minutes and, of course, we needed to get to the airport to check in and get ready for our flight. After we returned home and while checking our finances online, we noticed that we had been overcharged for our rental car. We called Avis USA and were told that there was a 1050 Euro charge for damages! There were NO damages on the car. We were also charged about 95 Euros for filling the gas tank! We filed a claim with Avis USA and were told that if we didn't hear anything in 30 days we should call back. In the meantime, we disputed the charges with our visa company and they provisionally credited our account for the $1690 dollars that we believe we were overcharged. After 30 days we called Avis back and were told that they had emailed us documentation that proved that we had caused damage - including photos. We were also told that Avis USA is only a liason for Avis Germany and we needed to deal directly with Avis Germany. The photos that were emailed show a closeup of a black car with scratches on the fender near the headlight and damage to the windshield. There is also a photo of the car we rented (also a black car) taken from a distance. There was also other documentation including a service estimate with the license plate number that matched the car we rented (we know because we took a couple of photos of the car while we were on our vacation.) This scam involves not only Avis Germany/Tegel/Berlin but also the company (real or fictional) that they supposedly use to repair their cars. We are extremely frustrated and have no further recourse with respect to this situation.

My wife and I had a similar experience with Avis Tegel Berlin in May this year. They billed us over 200 euros for non-existent scratches on one wheel rim which we challenged but to no avail. We got the money back from American Express but not from Avis, so they got away with this regular scam once again!

Avis double billed

Last month we rented a car at Heathrow airport from Avis. The rental was for 10 days. On the third day a reperesentative called checking wheter we still had the car. She said the rental had been cancelled. She told me this had been an employee error and it would be correcrted. We realised later that our credit card had already been billed for the full ten day period. We called again and were told we would need to deal with this when we returned the car. We did this. It took time at the retune desk and we were told our account would be credite for the foault billing.

We flew back to Canada to find no refund had been made and we were esssentially double billed for the rental. We complained further and recieved a refund, however due to exchange fluctuations it cost us money. Futher emails were unanswered.
Avis was very quick to bill us on bothe occasions but a simle refund took them three weeks and constant complaints to complete.
We do not intend to rent cars from them again ever and would advise others to take theire business elsewhere !

Avis exorbitant fuel surcharge

Returning to airport car rentals from the North (M90), I could not find a filling station to top off my rental car.
During the rental, it cost me GBP57 to fill the tank from empty. I returned it half ull and Avis charged me GBP80 for fuel surcharge for half a tank. This is daylight robbery and needs to be stopped.
I booked it through British Ariways and will also be complaining to them.
No more Avis for me as I consider them to be acting unethitically.

Avis costa rica call center

When you look up Avis and try to call their reservation number, you will most likely be routed to their call center located in Costa Rica. This is the most hideous call center operated by anyone in the world. The people barely speak English and you can't communicate. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told I could not and when I asked for a US number or to be transferred to someone in the US they hung up on me!

I actually love Avis who has provided me with great prices, great cars, and great service at airports all over the US! Some executive made a horrible decision to cut costs by using this call center in Costa Rica. I will not use this call center. I always ask where the operator is located and if it is not in the US I will ask to be transferred or hang up.

I urge everyone to avoid using the Costa Rica center call center! Just ask where the operator is located!

Avis overcharge

Wow. I rented a car for 2 day of which I used for almost 2 hours. My $80.00 charge turned into $238.00. They charged 8.75 to my account and I still don't know why. Then a charge of $150.00! Yes I called customer service who couldn't help me. They gave me a number that the voicemail box was 'full.' I tried another number for the security department but she is on vacation until July 11, 2011. Never again. Has this happened to anyone else?

I rented a car from Avis in Franklin Tn for a weekend trip. I had a coupon for a free weekend day, so my whole rental was to be less that $60. I was involved in a wreck on Sunday night. I called the Avis number on the form they had given me and they had the car towed. Apparently Avis has no tracking system (right!) because they supposed knew nothing of the car being wrecked until my insurance company called them on Tuesday. They then charged my credit card for over $160.00 because the car was not turned in on time. When I called the billing department, they said they could not do anything and gave me a name and number to call. When I called him, he was not even the manager of the right location and could do nothing either!

We rented a car for one month here in Spain and we were told how much would be and Avis ended charging us more. We contacted customer service several times but they were not helpful and kept gaving us another number for assistence. Our monthly fee turned to be from 405 euros to 550. Dont think we would rent a car again from them
