McAfee rip-off telephone charges

I bought a laptop Sony in 2009 with mcafee installed in it. I paid subscription for one year which expired now in November 2010. A month ago my computer stop working ang the tech guys found Trojan virus inside my laptop and the Mcafee anti-virus don't even detect it, that why I didn't want any renewal of that software I just find out that I was charged £54.99 for a subscription which I never wanted. I had invoice from Mcafee wich said that I had 6o days period for full refund. The telephone number for contact was: [protected] with charge 1.50 per minute. I did call this number and I spoke with the most idiotic guy in the world. my name is formed from four letters and I need to spell them for him 5-6 times to be understood, when I start complaining about his negligence and the price I am paying for the phone call he respond to me in quite rude way. He said: I work from eight till eight so I need your money, if you need help you need to pay me £1.50 a minute, I need to service my car regularly so I need the money to pay for it. I was furiuos, and he said to me that he needs to call to someone in South India and he will ask for my money, but he said that he must call them now and wait until they respond. I said that I will hung up and he said to me that I will never gonna get my money back if I hung up, so I waited for long time and then he said that nobody is answering the phone from India. He kept me on the phone for 14 mins and that will cost me around £20 for nothing. At the end he said that there is no guarantee that I will get my money back ang he was laughing. I couldn't believe that this is a helpline, that is so outragious!

On March 30th, 2009 I went on-line to order to order a download software program. When the program was downloaded it was an entirely different program.

I was charged for that program. I have tried numerous times to e-mail them about the problem but never received any replies.

Now I have tried again the the web site that was provided to my credit card provider is no longer on the internet.

I now think this was a scam.

I downloaded 3 user anti virus security from Mcafee. When it was done I had nothing but problems. So, I thought ok I will call them. What a joke.. having to pay for assistance that ruined my computer. I had no restore points, no search it was blank. At this point was furious. Why should I call for technical assistance on their faulty product?
This is the biggest rip off on the market. My computer was secure and never left unprotected before I downloaded their garbage. I am contacting the BBB. 44.99 now cost me 139.99 a damaged computer and a headache.

Beware of this company!

You should know that no antivirus program can stop all viruses on their own.

McAfee product won't activate

I bought McAfee Total Protection for $79.99 at Office Depot. The problem is that once I load the software on my laptop, it ask me to "activate" the product. Once I start the process it wont let me finish. It starts to freeze and I never get to the end of it. I have uninstall-ed it three times and the same thing occurs. I downloaded the website version and the same glitch happens. I didn't expect this type of problem from a company that specializes in software security. I wish there was a solution. I was thinking maybe it was that it wasn't compatible with Microsoft's Vista OS but on the box it says that it is compatible. Is there a solution to this? I will not be buying McAfee again. Ever.

Count yourself lucky! Take it back to the store for a refund and read the numerous complaints on this very site about their unethical practices and unauthorized charges.

McAfee preloaded debit card rebate

Stores selling McAfee software offer enticing deals to capture customers. These deals often involve preloaded Visa debit cards. Customers are told they will receive a specific sum on a debit card in exchange for their purchase of the McAfee software. But when the debit card is eventually used to make a purchase, the customer discovers the amount on the card is not the same as was promised.

What the customer does not know when purchasing the McAfee product is that a $3 fee will be deducted monthly from the debit card after a short grace period. The bank will continue to remove $3 a month from the debit card until the card is drained.

McAfee refund

June 11, 2010

I see a lot of bad experiences with McAfee charges etc. On the other hand, I ordered McAfee online with a VISA charge but decided not to download it because their procedure had me confused. I called McAfee on June 8 2010 and was connected to a person in India within a minute. He authorized a VISA credit and gave me confirmation numbers for the credit and for the conversation. My credit appeared on my VISA acct within three days of my call. Can't complain about that.

McAfee downloaded virus

I have recently had my computer repaired when the problem was diagnosed. The technician explained the fault was due to my internet protection (MacAfee). The informed me that this was a problem that occurred within the company itself in that they accidently downloaded virus onto the website. He then informed me that anyone trying to update their computer with MacAfee would receive it also. I was not however on the website, however I repeatedly received pop ups from MacAfee informing me that I needed to and to click the relevant link.in doing so the computer automatically received the virus and broke down. The repairs have cost me £112. 00 as this is the fault of MacAfee and not myself I would like this to be reimbursed by MacAfee.

McAfee no real interenet protection, anti virus scan blocking, very inefficient customer support

I can only agree with all the complaints on McAfee: Do not get involved with Mcafee. I bought a total protection since one year.
Their crap software indicated a site as safe whereas I believe my computer got infected. When trying to run a full scan it blocked. I was connected to McAfee support for 4 nights in a row last week - they did not manage to fix it. They were supposed to call back yesterday and this morning and they never did. When I contacted them they could not care less and did not want to help further saying not available although we had agreed on a timing to try for the 5th time to solve this. When last connected to my computer they even uninstalled the product completely so now there's no computer protection at all (not that McAfee did help with something it proves...).

Their software and client service (be it Tier 1 or Tier 2) is crap. They initially asked me to buy a $89 additional product to remove a trojan or virus. I agree with what anther customer says that their foreign call center is a horrible. They are like robots. They do not have a log of everything already said or done so this is completely no respect for the customer. I wasted 10-12hours last week to now be without any anti virus. The conversations are bizarre. It doesn't matter what you say, they respond as if you said something else. Maybe they just read off a paper but they will not address what you say.

Do not get McAfee - waste of money, time, no respect for the client or client time.

Dear McAfee,

Every time I try to type something important, your ad always pops up on my screen and I can't see my typing. Even if I have a timer for typing on a test your ad still pops up, the ad takes a couple minutes to delete it and my teacher wants me to have a good accuracy rate on my test. My teacher also wants correct words on my test. My teacher wants not many mistakes.

I found the McAfee software to be useless in blocking or removing Trojans. It is very invasive, and slows up the operation of my laptop. I spent five hours trying to get their customer representative in East India to cancel the $90 automatic renewal. More like malware than a genuine antivirus utility.

I agree MacAfee sucks I originally purchased a one year contract with Mac Afee cause it came highly reccomended as one of the best . At first there were no problems with it till I upgraded to Windows 7 then I started having problems. Got that fixed again no problems at all except for the fact that the software mysteriously stops working 3 weeks before it's time to renew it then all of a sudden it stops working and all you get is oh your computer is unprotected and renew your subscription notices and that's with three weeks left on the subscription which I found strange but never the less we renewed for another year. Well low and behold 2 weeks ago again the Mac Afee came up as not working again that the real time scanning had been turned off and to turn it back on. When I tried to turn it back on up came the please renew your software for continious service, huh we still had a month on the original contract. They ripped us off on the final thirty days that we had already paid for. I contacted them because actually our renewal date isn't until the 26th of this month and I was informed I should go ahead and renew now. I informed them that we planned on renewing on the 24th thats still 2 days until expiration date. And they informed me that there really was nothing they could do until then WTH I basically informed them that their software was crap and no this time we would not be renewing. I removed the software off both computers a couple of days ago which actually sucks cause we're entitled to it until the 26th but oh well. I suggest tryiny Microsoft Security Essentials one it's free and it works great. It's what I've been using and I love it . It's actually a much better Antivirus Spyware program than Mac Afee . I will never use Mac Afee again if I can help it.

If only I had read these so very very bad MacAfee reviews I could have been saved tremendous anxiety and cost. McAfee protection is an expensive send up. Last month I renewed my subscription; the money went from my account and I removed the old program and installed the replacement. This was where the trouble started. Three days after the purchase I received a notification that my new version of McAfee was expired. At great expense I rang customer services and was told I was correct that I had paid for the renewal but i was told i needed to talk to a technician who would check my computer by remote but for this they wanted the sum of £54 refundable if no virus was found. No virus was found and McAfee successfully downloaded the version that had disappeared. Some days later my money was refunded. This happened twice. Both times £54 went in an out of my account for five days. Two days ago the third time, being a 67 year old woman I got hysterical with McAfee support refused to hand over any more of my pension money and insisted on a full refund as I no longer trusted McAfee. Hysterics prevailed and a hasty promise of a refund was made. I have a five day wait for my cash back and in the meantime have had to pay out for a Kaspersky replacement. So far Kaspersky is good for me.

McAfee automatic renewal

I received an email from McAffee informing me, that my Anti Virus software will be automatically renewed within the next 30 days. The fact is, I do not have any McAffee on my computer since 2007. Fortunately I managed to log into their web-site and found my account from 2007. Fortunately they allowed me to "switch off" the automatic renewal.
The problem however is, that this took me 30 minutes to do. I protest the fact that there is no function, to remove myself from their data base. Also they kept my CreditCard information.
If they want to sell software subscriptions with renewal, they can sent me an email, informing me about it.
The entire concept of automatic taking my money is wrong.
Therefor I have decided not to purchase anything over the internet, certainly do not use your Credit Card.
The Credit Card Company is NOT ON YOUR SIDE.
Another trick which may (maybe) works is to throw away your Credit Card frequently and get a new number.
This way, they try to take money from an account which does not exist or is cancelled.

I am really puzzled by your response. I had my share of failures and some of them are here on this web-site. I do agree that people are responsible for their own lives. Even so I do not know you, it is most likely that you made a mistake concerning credit cards and banks yourself... everybody has. However it never stops to amaze me, that people who have been victims (or dumb-[censor] as you would call them) actually defend their abusers. Sorry, but I think this is a defense mechanism. We all get cheated (or behave stupid) once in a while and your way of coping with your powerlessness is either to pretend to be educated in the subject matter or really make an effort to be educated.
Then what is wrong with criticizing others, as long as it is in good taste and constructively.
My defense mechanism dealing with banks and credit cards is to avoid them as much as I can and pay my credit card in full exactly one day before the due date. They really must hate me, because they do not make a lot of money of me.
I am old enough to remember when checks (cheques) were not free. Then some "genius" realized that they would make a lot more money if checks are free but "take them to the cleaners" if they overdraft.
The latest trick is to lure customers with a reasonable price, just right not to trigger the "read the small print" response. Later you will find out, you should have read the 5 pages of small-print.
In short, the scheme is: You must take action NOT to buy the product or the service.
Again, I do not intend to patronize or insult you. However if you still feel that way, I apologize... I really do. This web-site needs some civility.

You mentioned it...
Home equity loans are a bad idea too. And refinancing used to be bad idea too, but lately the interest rates are so low, that you may consider it.
I actually know a few people who had sub-prime mortgages and they had to file bankruptcy and move in with friends and family. For them it was a very bad decision.
Renting out your second home might be an option, if you can manage the property. Lots of luck involved here, you may get a bad tenant.
And why are you so hostile. I have my opinions and you have yours. I have never insulted anybody who borrowed money or even lived ff a credit card. I have lots of friends who drive better cars than mine, but they borrowed the money for it.

Update by Karl123
Apr 05, 2011 11:24 pm EDT

I am not criticizing anybody who lives on credit. I just believe, that this is not a good idea. In the long run you do financially much better NOT taking a loan. What I mean is that everybody must live within his/her means.
Few people do and that is sad and yes... it is their choice. Taking a mortgage for a house is the possible exception, because few people have the money up front. But then be wise... Today everybody knows that "sub-prime" mortgages are a bad idea... I am proud to say "I knew that all along". And "lease to buy" is a bad idea as well and so is a 30 year mortgage... get a 15 year one and get a smaller house. Pay it off in 10 years and within 30 years you own 3 houses, while the neighbor owns one (at best).
Your last paragraph I do not understand at all. Yes, many elderly live off credit... actually even more younger people do. In which way does this make me righteous ? I have a problem with the definition of the word "righteous".
If it means "I believe that I am right" ... yes I do. If it means "I am right always" ... no I don't.

Update by Karl123
Apr 05, 2011 10:03 pm EDT

Actually it was not luck, but hard work.
Truth is, most people living on credit have nothing to show, even after years of hard work.
"The flying monkey" I plagiarized from a movie, but it means the same thing as you suggested. In my case I avoid profanity, because it distracts from the basic argument.
While it is true, that people who do not comprehend suffer from their condition (obviously), this does not give others the right to take advantage of it. What about the elderly ? What about children who grew up in less than fortunate families?

Update by Karl123

Factually you are correct. People have to read the contract and so I will in the future. But we all know, that these contracts are designed to mislead the casual reader, but hold-up in court.
Where we disagree:
I do not give a "flying monkey" about credit ratings. I NEVER borrow money... bad idea. People who purchase everything on credit never make it in life. Thirty years ago I left the army with a duffel-bag and $100 in my pocket. I got married and got two kids through college. To be sure, I spend only 9 years in school and did work when I was 15. Today I have a house, stocks and not a cent of depth. I could live on my savings until I am 100 years old. And all because I NEVER BORROWED MONEY form anybody.

I have just checked my visa account to find that McAffee has removed £64.99 from my account without my authorisation (ref no:85204721216130808030184) The only McAffee product i have is Anti-Theft which was paid for a few months ago and is not due for renewal.
As all the other products that i had were discontinued 1-2years ago.
Please refund me the amount of £64.99 immediately as this has taken me over my limit. If i had brought this product (Whatever it is) i would not have used a card that would have taken me over the limit.
Yours Faithfully

After having what I now call my “McAffe Experience” I told their customer service that I would never pass on an opportunity to warn others about McAffee’s service and questionable business practices.

Last Summer I purchased McAffee Antivirus software. After downloading it would not run. I contacted their tech support and of course had to talk to someone who could barely speak English named Roger….RIGHT! He spent over an hour having me change a bunch of settings. The software still would not start up. So Roger transferred me to another tech idiot and continued making changes in numerous areas on the PC. I told him this is not normal to have to change all this stuff and he says No Problem…No Problem. We will fix it.

And you know what..he did. As soon as he had me restart the PC it crashed. Since I was so pissed and it was late I told him I would call back the next morning. The tech I talked to then says well it is obviously something wrong with my PC and not our software. I responded by telling him I agreed and McAfee Techs were the cause of the something that was wrong with my PC.

They then had the gall to try to charge me almost 100 bucks to fix the problems they caused. That was the proverbial straw and I told them what they could do with their product and it was understandable in any language. I told them to refund my card, and to take my name off of their contact lists. I took my PC to a friend who works in the MIS field and he had it fixed in a couple of hours and told me he was surprised it did not crash sooner after all the changes they made.

McAfee NEVER refunded my card, and I keep getting emails and snail mail etc. even though I have responded to every email telling them to remove me from their lists.

I received a letter from them dated June 01, telling me that my card had expired and wanted me to update it. The subscription I never got to use did not expire until July so it is obvious they tried to charge my card in May, two months before the renewal was due. They do this so they can use your money for a couple of months even if you do not renew. I consider that an unethical business practice but honestly have learned to expect nothing less from this bunch.

Luckily my card expired in May so that screwed up their scheme. I called the number they put on the letter and was not a nice person. Of course I was told I would be removed from their lists, I will believe it when I don’t see it.

I have decided to file a complaint with my States Attorney General consumer affairs branch and encourage those having similar problems do so for their State.

Again beware of dealing with this company

McAfee preinstalled mcafee fraud

I have a dell vostro preinstalled with mcafee 36 months subscription. Ever since the antivirus program was reinstalled from Dell-Mcafee CD the subscription is reduced to 30 day trial. mcafee does not offer latest version of its software for preinstalled systems. Therefore by any chance the preinstalled system needs to be reinstalled it will need to update the software from its website. the website only has new version download. the new one is not available for preinstalled ones. this way I lost my one year. mcafee does not accept the mistake & dell does not own up.

McAfee allows malware charge to remove

from dispute letter to McAfee
A renewed subscription of McAfee Total Protection plus the SiteAdvisor was installed 27January2010. All protection was activated. Total Protection plus the SiteAdvisor is an implied guarantee that the customer is protected from all malware if the product is activated and the customer only opens McAfee designated safe sites.
On 17March2010, I clicked on a map site that displayed McAfee's safe site icon. Both Total Protection and the SiteAdvisor failed to provide the protection from malware that I paid McAfee to provide. McAfee's Total Protection allowed malware (cleanup antivirus) to infect my computer.
I was then told by, first, a chat tech and then a supervisor that, even though McAfee's Total Protection and SiteAdvisor had failed, I would have to pay $8.95 to have a tech clean the malware from my computer.
When the e-mail charge arrives, the charge is not $8.95 but an outrageous $89.95. The charge was neither clearly stated verbally or written in the chat message. First the customer pays for McAfee's Total Protection and then they expect you to pay McAfee again because the Total Protection did not protect as advertised.

They just sucked me in for another $89.00. It is the last dime they will get from me. They had a tools to clean it up - why did I get the infection if they knew it enough to clean it in seconds - literally.

This was for the Vista Security 2012 virus. Igot the same story as above - many viruses - can not guarantee where I go, computer up to date - blah blah - Stay Away. Find something better - there are several.

Same here...I paid a two year subscription. About six months ago I cotracted "Adware-OneStep. " I contacted Mcafee and the tech moved my mouse around willy nilly...and suddenly it appeared mt Adware-OneStep.b was one. I ran another scan and bingo, it was there. Frustrated I let it be for the past 6 months or so. Tonight, run acan, it shows still there...contact Mcafee and they want 89.95 to fix. No-No I tell them...I already PAID 90.00 DOLLARS FOR PROTECTION. They pretend they don't hear you. I then ask again, ...did I pay 90.00 for protection...the Mcafee party says yes...I ask ...did you provide protection considering I'm infected? They come back with all this mumbo jumbo about its a big world, viruses multiply daily, so hard to keep up...baloney I say...Did I pay 90.00 ? Yes they say...for protection against viruses and malware...yes they say...then you failed I say...fix my pc. Are you the mob/ Yakuza...I pay but you are trying to shake me down for more money..no way...long, long story short...got a supervisor...kept asking if I paid for protection...YES OR NO...Did the provide...YES OR NO...They said as a one time courtesy they will repar and gave me a # and a pin...I will never re subscribe again...and everyone...STAY AWAY...SAVE YOUR MONEY

McAfee poor quality-failure to prevent trojan

Their McAfee security software allowed a trojanfakeav. b to get into my computer. It was able to not only to shut down the Microsoft anti-virus protection but also the McAfee protection as well. When I contacted AT&T by phone I was transfered to a Tech support who wanted to charge me $99 to fix a problem that their service allowed, not to mention their usual run around procedure of transfering me to different departments for 2.5 hours and then hanging up on me.

McAfee pointless

Mcafee is pointless, my subscription fee was due but I didn't want to pay it! So I looked around on the internet for free security products. I found Microsoft Security Essentials. It is a free sucurity programe and is simply brilliant.
I have had more problems with Mcafee and you have to pay for it. The only pain is that there is no quick clean on Microsoft Security Essentials, but you can just download CCleaner for that.

McAfee security fails plus rip off when you complain

I have had a McAfee computer security package for a couple of years. A couple of weeks ago my computer was subjected to a severe virus/torjan attack - which surprised and upset me because I had paid good money for security against such things. McAfee not only didn't protect me against the virus WHICH WIPED OUT MY WINDOWS APPLICATIONS but when I contacted them, they wanted $89.95 to remove gthe virus and restore my computer files! What kind of security is this and what kind of a company is McAfee?

Macafee continues to charge my credit card even though we have told them more than a year ago we no longer have that computer. They don't care. Saying they cannot issue refund if it has been longer than 6 months. Bull crap. This is a ripoff company.

Customer service and technical support is poor. The personnel are not knowledgable about the products or current issues. I have sent e-mails to technical support, customer service, corporate public relations (Francie Coulter), and their president (Dave Dewalt). No one has responded to their Site Advisor problem with the Google search engine. This company discourages telephone calls by charging a fee for "premium service." My current subscription to their service will end in a couple of months. I will choose another service provider that is customer friendly.

McAfee complete rip-off

My computer became infected with a virus and I purchased the McAfee virus removal service for $90. McAfee techs told me the computer was clean and recommended I purchase the anti-viral software for another $120 which I did. Within days, it was clear the virus remained. I contacted McAfee and the techs tried again and again promised the computer was clean. I did not use my computer over the holidays but when I turned it back on today, it was clear the virus was still present. When I contacted McAfee, they said it was more than 30 days since the original purchase of services and I would have to pay them another $90 so they could come in and do again what they did the first time, which was nothing. And bonus, McAfee said that the software I had purchased wouldn't work because of the virus. So not only did they refuse to actually do the work I paid them to do, they also refused to return my money for the directive work and software. McAfee was totally unapologetic about the fact that the products and services I purchased did not perform as promised and would do NOTHING to correct the problem. DO NOT BUY MCAFEE'S PRODUCTS... THEY DO NOT WORK AND MCAFEE WON'T DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEMS. It is exactly like a virus that wants your credit card information while providing nothing in exchange for it... the only difference is that McAfee will at least answer the phone to admit they are taking your money and they have a fancier website. BUYER BEWARE!

I agree, McAfee service is terrible I had exactly the same issue with a nasty little virus that they claim they removed then sold me a new antivirus software. Not only did the same virus return the service tech says he never claimed they could eradicate the virus and could not find a history of previous service call even thou I provided him with a reference number. I was told I had to pay another $120 to remove the virus At the same time I was told the virus remains hidden and can reappear but if more then 30 days I would need to pay again. bottom line Don't use Mcafee. Better yet BUY A MAC and don't worry about viruses

McAfee stolen cc information/ruined computer

I got a free 3 yr subscription to McAfee with the purchase of my computer. Everytime I turned the computer on McAfee would cut in to update the anti virus software. This effectively locked up my computer and I could not use it until the download was complete - this took from 15-45 minutes - even up to 3 times per day. It finally got to the point where their software was acting like a virus on my computer. At that time any technical service had to be paid for and if you got a virus you had to buy a product from them at a store to fix the problem. The breaking point came when after 1 year they sent me an email about paying for the next year service - I emailed them back and said that I still had 2 years free left and was thinking about discontinuing using their service and that I definitely did not want to pay for the service. Somehow they got hold of my credit card information (I did not give it to them and did not authorize payment) and charged me for service. After several calls and theats they refunded my money and I uninstalled it. My computer worked great. Never again would I use this service. Other family member had similar if not worse problems, I don't know how they are still in business

Mcafee is a nightmare to deal with. It is NOT the best anti-virus and my Mcafee let a virus slip thru that seems to have messed up a bunch of stuff. There technical support couldn't fix it after more than a week of talking with them. Finally they revealed to me that there was an issue with downloading to Windows 64 bit systems. I don't know if this was true but I said that I wanted my money back. The technical department said it would be no problem to receive a refund and yet the customer service department tells me they can't. I am still waiting for my refund and may sue if anyone is interested in a possible class action law suit.

McAfee simply awful

I had a McAfee product that was due to expire in June of this year.in May of this year I received an email from McAfee informing me they had hit my credit card for the price of renewal. When I protested that I had not agree to the transaction, they first told me it was part of insuring my continued protection and then that it was part of the "click-on" agreement. I have not renewed and since then am getting pop-ups that tell me I am unprotected and one that tries to get me to renew my license. Their customer support people told me the only way I could get rid of the pop-ups was to renew; this from an organization that is supposed to be protecting its customers from things like unwarranted hits on credit cards and pop-ups.

My 3 yr agreement with McAfee expires in January 2017, received an email from McAfee in June 2017 offering reduced pricing for new 360 security package. So I called, and was informed the new agreement would take effect immediately and not be tacked onto my current agreement. Was also told that my current paid package is not fully protecting my computer due to the upgrade. Why didn't McAfee email me directly to inform me of the status change of my current agreement with them? Am I wrong to assume that entering into an agreement for a length of time be honored for the duration? If they reneged once in honoring an agreement, why would one assume that McAfee won't do it again. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY McAFEE CONDUCTs BUSINESS!

I currently have a subscription to McAfee. I recently experienced a virus attack. My first reaction was to contact McAfee and find the steps to remove the virus. I was informed that I would have to pay $89.95 so McAfee's "Virus-removal specialists" could remove my virus remotely from my computer. I asked if there were any other ways to have this removed but was told this would be my only option. After continuously asking and going back and forth with my customer care rep, he finally gave in and told me the McAfee website/customer blog that could provide me with free virus removal programs. The link he provided wasn't very user-friendly, so I did an internet search for a virus removal program myself. After some research, I found a legit removal program. I downloaded it and let it do its thing. What do you know? The virus was removed and I kept $89.95 in my pocket. I couldn't believe that I was being led to believe that paying was my only option until the rep was tired of me asking for alternative routes!

McAfee wouldn't update...tech help told me that it was my broadband speed the first two calls...speed was fine..3rd call they told me to delete it & reload...doesn't want to reload of course...the next four calls to tech help are to try & solve that..inc the last which they accessed my PC...they reckon it won't download cause i have a virus in my PC...isn't that why i had McAfee in the first place? for a fee of $129 they can remove the virus their program should of stopped...there scan tool stinger doesn't detect anything any how...don't waste your money on McAfee...the tech help seems promising but you'll spend hours in front of your computer for zip! think i'm up to 12 so far

I purchased McAfee Antivirus software from McAfee Site. After installing it worked fine for 3 weeks. Then suddenly it said "Certificate Expired " and asked me to Activate. I called McAfee support they did something remotely in my machine and it seemed to work. I asked if this will recur. They guaranteed it won't. It recurred after 1 month. Again I called and they fixed remotely. I again asked "Are you sure it won't recur!" They assured me it won't recur. It has recurred again. Their service is appalling. If my PC is not protected half the time because of this, I was wondering why spend money and purchase a licensed antivirus software. I would not recommend anyone to buy McAfee. They are fraud. I have all the ticket numbers saved for which I called McAfee for support. I can show if need be.

Based on my recent experience with McAfee, customer service is an oxymoron with this company. Their customer service department was not interested in assisting me. They use a variety of methods to try and discourage solving complaints, such as putting you on hold endlessly, saying they don't have the ability to transfer a call, promising to research and let you know their findings (but not doing so!). Don't frustrate yourself by dealing with them. There are plenty of free anti-virus programs available to you instead of spending money with McAfee. Save yourself time, money and aggrevation...my experience should not become yours.

I know McAfee is a big professional company which is providing anti-virous support to the customers worldwide. Basing on this information and basing on good perception developed about this company I subscribe to this company's product. My laptop recently suffered from serious technical setback affiliated to virus when the McAfee anti-virus protection was on. I could not switch on my set even for about a month. Then I took the computer to the technician, they declared the computers hard-drive was fully corrupted due to virus and so it can not be repaired. The solution was there- change the hard-drive. So ultimately I had to do that. I lost my valuable data landed up into serious trouble. I spent 140 pounds to repair and to reproduce my lost data I have already spent about 390 pounds total 530 pounds which is the cost of almost another new computer.

Now, McAfee should refund this amount of money so that I can have the feelings that I have been backed to recover from the problem which was generated through virus?
I did not get satisfactory reply from London Customer service.

McAfee's software has crashed both my computers, each with different operating systems, and for the second year in a row. The new software CD does not install properly and McAfee provides absolutely no information on how to contact them for tech support!. When I finally do contact them via the web site it takes up to an hour to be told, via e mail, that someone will call you the next day for tech support. They do call, but it is the next day and they do not call at the time promised. If you miss the call you start all over again. If you are lucky enough to actually ever speak withcustomer support, they often do not fix the problem the first or second time. So you start over again on their website to contact them. The have NO PHONE NUMBER to get in touch with them for help. This product and their support is ***.

SiteAdvisor when installed appears to disable IE 6 browser capability. The nice wide IE 6 address bar is gone, wiped out. Can't bring it back no matter what! SiteAdvisor bar is not wide and doesn't have the features the IE address bar did. Also it defaults to Yahoo searches. Yuck! The only ONLY reason why I have it now is because I can't get my IE 6 address bar without reinstalling it and even then SiteAdvisor seems to have wormed its way into the operating system. Strange thing is I can't find much information about this anywhere.

Do not get involved with Mcafee. Their crap software permitted a common trojan to infect my computer after identifying at deleting it. They will charge you $89 to remove a trojan or virus. Their foreign call center is a horrible. They are like robots. The conversations are bizarre. It doesn't matter what you say, they respond as if you said something else. Maybe they just read off a paper but they will not address what you say. I have drained the batteries in 3 phones and made over 20 calls trying to install the software on my new computer. The error message says I am not connected to the internet. The Mcafee chat people actually said I was not connected to the internet while chatting with them over the internet. Maybe they thought we were using the chat with a couple of coconuts with a string tied between. I should have learned my lesson. I advise not to get involved with comcast or mcafee if you value the quality of your life.

I Recently bought a laptop and like all computers it came with a free temporary subcription to McAfee. Today I was attacked by a virus that downloaded one of those fake protection software thats obviously a scam. However, it crashed my internet and wouldnt allow me to do anything but THANKFULLY my McAffee still worked. After running several scans and McAfee telling me my computer is secure i completly wiped my hardrive and loe and behold, my computer is fine ( minus my files) Thanks McAfee, now i know never to use ur software again.

McAfee unauthorised extraction of monies from credit card when I do not have mcafee installed!!!

McAfee software uninstalled several months ago from PC... no contact with McAfee since that time, recently, they have on two separate occasions extracted monies from my credit card (the details held in their data bank!) for a product I do not have installed nor use.. I complained to them on the first intance, but since then, I have not had monies refunded, and they have since taken more monies from the same credit card!

They denied having my EMail address on their data files, but wanted me to send them more information (numbers etc) over the internet! I have since informed my credit card company concerning this and have also sought advice as to legally recovering monies and ensuring any more "extraction" does not occur... I want the monies refunded and after that, all details removed from their files... This "automatic" money retrieval is wholly unacceptable...

Just went the rounds with Mcafee customer service for the 3rd year in a row for my boss's computer. He stopped using the software 4 years ago (when I came onboard as IT) but every year in January they charge him again and I call again to reverse it. They tell me they delete the information, but it happens again. And here's the kicker: in that time he's had an all-new Amex card issued with new numbers, but apparently Amex is just updating the info with Mcafee and allowing them to charge again.

Please DISPUTE this with your credit card company and tell them that you have not ordered the product. If they tell you to dipute it direct, then tell them you have tried for the last three years and they should automatically refund your account and when Mcafee send proof of an invoice ... still go ahead and say that it's still in dispute. I made the mistake by ringing Mcafee ... which is a call centre in India (which I later discovered) and they assured me that once they received the money they would refund the fee! Well, I informed the chargecard that it was no longer in dispute, they repaid the money to Mcafee, who now deny receiving the money and won't refund it, because our subscription is now cancelled! Even though I told them that the money is probably sitting in a miscellaneous account as the subscription has been cancelled so they probably could not allocate the money!

Good luck

I have had an identicle problem. No product on my computer for three years and 25th December 2008 Mcafee took just under 40 pounds from my account. Yes no email address and yes lots of details requested but just ignored. No refund ever received. 25th December 2009 they have done it again. It appears Visa just pays as if authorised so we have to wait for a statement. Then complete formal claim form, which should arrive in ten days, they will argue the case. DID WE DO SOMETHING WRONG. It sounds like we are the villian. The message which came over lound and clear was we are very fry please just accept and go away. Lucky we are BRITISH

McAfee fraud

Classic Closeouts.com placed unauthorized charges on 700, 000 consumers credit cards and is making no massive effort to return the stolen funds. The business is paying its business debts and employees with the stolen funds. The frauduelnt business is so bad they do not even answer the phone or return e-mails. If you call Classic Closeouts.com at 866/422-6397 or 516/569-5390 or 516/538-1616 you get an ANSWERING MACHINE and they never return calls. They do not even return the calls of the bank representative making attempts to recover the stolen funds from their customers. Classic Closeouts.com is doing business as usual with stolen funds from consumers. The business placed charges Of $49.99 to $79.99 on 700, 000 consumers credit cards. Thus, the business is paying Mc Afee with stolen funds and they are supporting this business by placing the Site Advisor on the website and stating they found no problems with the business. One has to question Mc Afee ethical reasoning, since they do not think a business stealing from consumers deserves to be removed from their services. Mc Afee should be waring consumers to not shop with Classic Closeouts.com. They are aware the business stole funds from consumers by placing unauthorized charges on their visa accounts. Mc Afee is aware Classic Closeouts.com is making no effort to return the stolen funds. Mc Afee is also aware the business does not answer its phone or e-mails, but is doing business as usual with stolen funds. Trust E removed its logo and support of Classic Closeouts because Trust E cares about consumers. Trust E did not want Classic Closeouts stolen funds to pay for its services nor was it willing to lie about Classic Closeout fraudulent business. Trust E gave Classic Closeouts and opportunity to return the stolen funds to consumers, but when they saw the business was not even trying to do so, they removed their support logo. Now a business with the Trust E symbol can be very well respected and it is a pleasure for a consumer to do business with any online service with teh Trust E logo.
Mc Afee cannot be trusted, since tthey are not only willing to support a fraudulent business, but collect the payment of stolen funds.

McAfee worst vendor ever

Had problems downloading product, consulted their Pay Per minute technical support, Andrea assigned a case numbe and said she would email the resolution but never did. I appears that they really don't want to help. I am currently on the phone for already an hour [protected]-which is obviously not an 800 number and so I am paying for the minutes) trying to get a refund but the next representative may yet have to be born. So, for $19.95 software that would not download, I am expected to pay the Pay Per Minute consultation and cell phon minutes to try and resolve things. Mcafee is the WORST VENDOR I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!

McAfee scam billing

I bought my Dell PC in 2004, and it comes with McAfee virus detector. It expired, and I let it. I wound up getting Norton instead. Well, today Nov 14. 2008, I was looking at my checking acct statement and saw that I had a debit from McAfee for 42.31 from the week before.

I had been having problems with a virus that had infected my computer, but NEVER purchased McAfee to fix it. So when I found McAfees # and debit on my statement I was shocked and called them. I was surprised to hear that option #2 on the automated directory was for refunds... yeah, that's not suspicious!

Anyway, before he could pull up my acct, he needed my name and credit card number. When I refused to give him my card number, he asked for my email address instead. He didn't have that address in his records, but had ten others that I had since 2004. How that was in their records, is unknown. I've never updated and given them any information... especially not my acct number.

Anyway, he informed me that I had a Dell, and thatteh debit was part of the automatic update that comes wiht the product. He also let me know that there was another debit for 37.00 that would be taken out today. I was shocked, and told him that I did not even have McAfee on my PC, hadn't for years.

I questioned how they got access to all my info, and all the guy said was that my debit card would be refunded within 4-7 business days and that they would cancel my service. I continued to tell him that I did not have service, and don't recall how they would have gotten my information.

He said that he'd send me an email to confirm the cancellation. I did not get a verification, but a link for a download instead. And the worst part was, the name of the product that was sent to me by email so happened to be the same name of the virus that had infected my computer a month earlier.

I don't know the connection, but am curious to know how 'McAfee' got my information and how long they've been stealing money from me. And what the connection between my computer problems and McAfee's updates are.

5/3/2021 I got an e-mail stating that I was being charged $279.99 to renew. I contacted you to dispute subscription to McAfee I said to my self no way was I going to agree to this! I contacted you people to cancel this subscription.. After much talk and info I had to in put to my computer I was told that you had cancelled the $279.99 to my account . I made a mistake and put in a wrong amount. That I had entered $1500.00 to much. (1797.99) He said that he would lose his job if I did not return his money. He said that I should go to the TARGET Dept. store closest to my location and purchase gift cards in the amount of 3 @ $500.00 each. I told him that my car was broke and that I would have to take a bus. He said OK that he would stay on the line till I got back! He said then he would tell me how to send the gift cards to him! I slammed down the phone. I am still not sure I canceled . @ DEVIL 87GT@yahoo.com

It really seems like a scam. I bought a computer for my daughter in December 2014 and we immediately purchased and installed McAfee antivirus. One year later the service was cancelled by McAfee and a recurrent message would appear at the screen informing that the service was cancelled and asking for a renew but the renew of the service wasn´t interesting for us, thus we didn´t take any further action.
In 2015 we moved out of England. The fact is that they continued charging us every year after that the amount of £89.99. I returned to England this year and only then aknowledge the charges. For my surprise I was told by the bank that they couldn´t do anything about it and I should contact McAfee directly but they were fully aware of the "problem". And so I did. McAfee confirmed the fact that the services were cancelled one year after the purchase but I didn´t "call" them to cancel the services, reason why they continued charging me. They reimbursed me for the charges made in July 2018 (despite the fact that the first purchase was made in December 2014, no reason whatsoever for them to be charging me in July) but they refused to reimburse the previous charges made in 2016 and 2017 even though the services were no longer being provided. So, I strongly advise people to be aware of McAfee "type of procedures".

McAfee no cooperation from mcafee

If I had known McAfee was owned by AOL, I'd have resubscribed to Norton. Have tried and tried to get my $20 rebate from McAfee, and to get upgrades on my two purchased from McAfee, to no avail

I tried to send in my request for the rebate a half dozen times but McAfee just won't cooperate.

When I try to get updates on the two purchased I made from them, they tell me my password is wrong or something else is wrong but when I attempt to get them to give me a new password, they put all kinds of stumbling blocks in the way.

Service request [protected], tracking nr,[protected]. I've spent over $75. on Mcafee with no rebate, and no help getting my password etc repaired.

This is typical AOL, and why I switched to other providers.
