Aspen Dental terrible place

I went to Aspen Dental in the summer of 2008 because I knew I needed expensive work done and they offered free X-Rays. I only get 1500 from my insurance so I figured this would save me some money. After going to my first appointment I was told that I needed a root canal re done and three wisdom teeth surgically removed. I asked the office manager for my out of pocket costs up front as I was on a tight budget. After calling every other day for weeks because 'the computers were down', I was finally told that my out of pocket costs were around 300. I verified this numerous times with her.

The day I arrived for my root canal the receptionist told ME that I had canceled my appointment. Obviously, this was not true. I work in healthcare and it is very hard to take time off. I had to find coverage 3 weeks in advance! I informed her that she was mistaken and I would not reschedule as I already waited 3 weeks! She then told me to sit down and wait for the endodontist who was not expected there for an hour. I sat down and met another man who told me he had the same conversation with the receptionist 30 min ago. So the Dr finally arrived and we are both taken into the back at the same time. I found this odd as root canals take awhile. I heard her say something to the other man in the next cubical about tooth removal and he left. She then came into see me and without looking at me (Just the x rays) told me as well that my tooth had to come out. At this point I figured she didn't want to come in that day hence my 'canceled' appointment. Also, what are the chances of two people canceling appointments, forgetting they canceled, showing up and having teeth that cant be fixed?

So, I made her do the root canal. A few min into it she informed me that my tooth broke into the gums and it had to be surgically removed. I am not a dentist so I cant really question her but, I feel as if the damage was done out of spite.

Since I was now in horrible pain I could not cancel my operation. I came in and had in done the following week and was sent home with my husband. As soon as my anestesia wore off I was in incredible pain. (I had to have teeth drilled out of my jaw) My husband looked at the RX I was given and realized it was for minor pain (he is a nurse)

He called Aspen dental (at 9am) to ask for a more appropriate rx and was told the DR wouldn't be approached until after his lunch! I was left in horrible pain until around 2pm!

Then my husband was banned from the office for being 'rude' to the office manager.

Now, to my billing fun. As you may remember I was told my out of pocket would be 300. After I had my operation I was sent a bill for 1600! After I already paid around 200! This is not including the 1000 my insurance company paid! I have had to do all of the talking between my insurance company and Aspen dental. I just got the last 500 of my 2008 benefits paid to Aspen dental since they just gave me the documents my insurance company has been requesting for 6 months!

Now, I have to pay over 1000 in consult fees and god knows what else they did to change my 300.00 out of picket to over 1200!

Stay far away from Aspen dental!

I too went for services at Aspen Dental and was left feeling mortified humiliated and very unsatisfied with the care I was given. My Dentures never filt properly, I was left with teeth that were too big, sores throughout my mouth as I was trying to get used to them. My family and friends made comments that I looked like I had a horse or worse a donkeys mouth full of teeth. I watched all the ads on tv and truly believed they would give me my confidence back. I was left embarrased to speak in public. My temps took me over 6 months to get used to and I was told repeatively that the finished product would be worth all the pain. What a lie flat out horrible lie. I was told when I complained that I would simply have to get used to wearing the temps if I was unsatisfied with the finished product. I paid almost $3000. dollars between what the 1500. down payment, my Insurance paid some and I took out a loan for 1400. that I am still paying on. I am left with temps that do not fit and the finished permanents that sit in a cup.

Aspen Dental shoddy work/fraudulent billing

Aspen Dental is guilty of shoddy work, poor service and fraudulent billing. I know from experience. I think they build extended problems onto existing ones and create additional dental problems for patients.

My daughter is neither a middle-aged nor an elderly person. She visits the dentist regularly. She doesn't have the strongest teeth, however, almost every single filling that had been done has had to be replaced or fell out within weeks or a few months of being placed.

I have grave concerns over what they have done to my teenage daughter.

In addition, their billing practices are fraudulent and their extortive behaviour of using fear installation in patients to make them think they are ALL in dire dental health is not only questionable "ethics wise" but questionable on their expertise? And legally.

I have proof from their own hand that they don't mind at all trying to rebill for "old charges" that are paid in full and clear.

I have printouts from Aspen Dental in which they entered discount rates I was entitled to through careington 505, insurance payments from my one insurance at the time and personal payments that showed specific dates of service and procedures done including the codes for them.

Then, a year later, they took specific charges and rebilled them to a second INSURANCE I acquired. Never mind, they had been paid what they were allowed under their contract with Careington and BC/BS.

Not only is this illegal, it is fraudulent.

In other cases, they only filed on my secondary insurance initially. Put the remaining amounts on "my responsibility payment" part. Later collecting payment from my primary insurance, NOT CREDITING THESE PAYMENTS TO MY ACCOUNT and then posting as my having a balance due not crediting BC/BS payments to my account.

In other words, they probably owe me a little bit as I most likely overpaid them for services rendered in the end. It was not until the tailend of having had enough "shoddy and possibly malpractice work" done for my daughter that I realized what was going on.

I also am under the impression they charged for a couple of fillings they never did.

It amazes me the people who do the insurance billing work have the nerve to think No One Would catch this. And on top of it, knowing a majority of their dentists are not properly certified, let alone registered with a lot of the insurances.

Then, they go back and look at where they take big hits on discounts and I think they look for patients whose insurances have changed and try to bilk the insurance companies and if that doesn't work, take the denial of benefits letters and try to make the patients think these are charges that are simply not covered on the patients insurance, but that the patient is still responsible for, knowing that this is illegal.

What disgusts me is all the advertising they do on how non-judgmental they are and how they care. That alone is false advertisement. Their prices if you have no insurance are ludicrous and more than double what insurance companies allow, so those without insurance get screwed and are lured/forced into acquiring medium to high interest rate financial programs if they are to get treated for their dental problems.

Usually, Aspen Dental requires you to pay at least half up front and if you get approved by unicorn or care, then they place all the fees on the "financing" on these accounts upfront meaning they collect the entire payment before work is done! This also is questionable at least ethically.

Once, they collect the entire costs upfront, they don't care if the work done is satisfactory or appropriate. And, try getting refunded if you're not satisfied or the work is shoddy.

They can argue a lot, but to try billing insurances that were not in effect at time of services rendered and those services already having been paid in full is fraud. Fraud. There is no way they are unaware of what they did.

I have the printout from their own computer showing paid in full DOS and then they sent in claims a year and a half later to an insurance that was not in effect at the time.

She has had 5 fillings replaced either by them or a new dentist that were in her mouth anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to less than 2 years.

You tell me...am I wrong to be pissed?

Going to file complaints with the ADA and Attorney Generals in Connecticut, Massachusetts. Offices in both these states in 3 locations are a part of this.

However, I will never step in the doorway of Aspen Dental again. Unless I am with a lawyer.

Very interesting. My husband and myself were both told we needed--wait for it--twelve fillings apiece.

Went to another dentist (not in my network) and was told five, tops.

We're getting mysterious charges and months after starting service we still can't get anyone to give us a breakdown of our fees by service.

Just went to Aspen today 06/25/09 (Canton OH). I happen to have insurance that pays for an exam w/xrays and a cleaning two times a year. Aspen is in our 'network.' (lucky me) Three weeks prior my daughter and I had our exams with a panoramic x-ray and 18 in the mouth x-rays. I asked why they do two different x-rays. Iwas told that the ones in the mouth can see if you have any cavaties. okay. now the exam came. OMG I had 12 cavaties! When I asked why they couldn't see them on the xray they said the xray cannoth see cavaties on the top of the teeth. My daughter has 12 cavaties too. Insurance would pay for some I would have to pay $600 for each my daughter and myself. I was told that I may need a scaling (?) cleaning as well as my daughter that the insurance will not pay for. I refused and told them I just want the regular cleaning (this was three weeks ago) that my insurance will pay for. The girl was not sure the hygenist would do this. After all our appt was today. She wanted me to pay 37.00 for a flouride treatment (yea right...flouride is in our water...no need for it. declined. Then my daughter came in and they wanted like 377.00 for her cleaning! I lost it. I waited for the girl to come back to the desk to see if the hygenist would just do a cleaning. More frustrated I got up and left and went to my old dentist who charges 80 for a cleaning no xrays if you don't want and honesty which is PRICELESS!

I came home called my insurance company and filed a complaint for insurance fraud. They are requesting our xrays to see what is eally going on. The insurance lady told me they would never pay for that many cavaties with out seeing the xrays. (HMMM I wonder whose xrays they send to prove that many cavaties) I was told that none of my could be seen onthe xray.
Needless to say, I threw in the towel on insurance and am paying a real dentist to clean my teeth. No hygenist.

Aspen Dental billing fraud

Under the advisement of my insurance company I switched dental offices. My insurance convinced me to go with a dentist that accepted what the insurance paid. I took my two daughters in and was told their dental records were non transferable. Aspen then took them in and cleaned their teeth, exrayed florided etc. I was then set down and told my youngest daughter needed two small filling in back teeth. I was given two options white fillings or silver. I chose the silver. The office manager told me i needed to write a check for the portion the insurance didnt pay. Two weeks later we had the fillings done. I recieved a bill for 54.00 dollars and learned the insurance didnt pay for initial bitewing exrays or floride because they had allready used up that benifit with the prior dentist, no big deal but wondered why records werent allowed tranfered to prevent this. I then recieved statement from my insurance company saying that Aspen Dental had billed for services for silver fillings which they paid 100%. I then knew I had been screwed out of the money I paid upfront. My insurance also sent another statement saying my daughter had been seen on a different date, one that we never even went to. Aspen Dental billed my insurance for the same two teeth saying they had used the white filling and billed 300 dollars for service not even provided. My calls to marions office manager are to no avail Aspen dental is billing me for 245.70. My insurance company says I owe 54.00 less the 21.30 check I should never have written them. Aspen Dental is a dental farm you never know what dentist or trainee you will be have working on your teeth. Their office managers are poorly trained and seem to be looking out for your money instead of providing a good service.

I also live in Marion In. and yes Aspen is a scam...I went to Aspen Dental and they informed me I need 4, 000 worth of work; even though i needed one filling so I left. When I returned to Aspen 6 months later they stated "that information on the chart was on the wrong pt" yes I have very good insurance and they were ready to milk the insurance company. so my daughter and I went for teeth cleaning; we got a bill through colections agency fot $760.00. And trying to reach the office manager Shelby...is a joke.

Aspen Dental shoddy work/fraud

I cannot put the city because there are two states and three cities involved in the total story. All 3 offices of course, Aspen Dental.

I have proof of their fraud. Not simply my word, but their print outs in combination with my EOB's from dental insurance with one company and am going to request 3 years of EOB copies from my other insurance.

In addition to that, almost every single filling that they did on my teenage daughter came out within weeks and months of the work being done. Not normal and I don't care what they say.

I think they have done damage to her longterm. This bothers me a great deal.

Their billing practices border on extortion in some instances, but definitely fraudulent.

I have kept an open line of communication with the NY office, however, recently realized that for almost two years they kept a running tab on charges that had been paid in full, filing on them with an insurance company whose coverage we later acquired. Never mind these DOS had been paid in full...per their own hand and printout.

In two instances, they did not file with my primary, only my secondary and then billed it out. I paid what they said I owed outside of insurance, knowing it did not sound right, then when they received funds from my primary...did not credit my account.

In the end, they probably owe me a little.

However, the repeat billing of different dates of service they had already been paid for, is not something that they could be unaware of.

They also use fear tactics with patients in regards to their dental care, which results in patients resorting to applying to dental financing and paying upfront for work that may or may not need to be done at overinflated prices.

Those who go to Aspen Dental without insurance get screwed in more ways than you can count.

In addition, Aspen Dental does not seem to think they have to follow the rules and guidelines of the insurances in which they are PDP on.

I am so outraged by the discoveries I have made I intend to contact the ADA and the Attorney Generals for Ct and Massachusetts...and maybe a lawyer as well and recover for all I paid them for work that was not properly done on my daughter.

I went to Aspen Dental to initially have a cracked tooth fixed, was x-rayed and told I would have to have a root canal done and a crown placement-then was told that there were 2 more teeth that would have to have the same procedure, and I would have to have a bridge placed after all the procedures were done. They signed me up for CareCredit, which was supposed to help me pay the bill for all these procedures. I had the one root canal done, after which I received a bill for ALL the procedures-this totalled up to over $2700. I called Aspen Dental and cancelled the rest of the procedures, and asked them to contact CareCredit to eliminate the amount for the procedures I had not even had. They had billed me for procedures I hadn't even had yet! This was in January of this year, and I STILL have not had this matter cleared up yet! Aspen Dental's corporate office has stated that they refunded the money to CareCredit, butCareCredit has NO record of this, and it has been a month now since I contacted AspenDental. They now say they are going to send me a receipt of the electronic transaction to prove that they sent the refund to CareCredit. (Still waiting...) Aside from being overcharged for services, Aspen Dental charged for services that had not even been rendered yet! BEWARE!

Aspen Dental the worst dental company

I met the worst dentist and the worst dental company in the world. They tried to charge me those services which I did not do, and also they extracted my 2 teeth. I called them when I felt the pain, they arranged the appointment in 1 month, can you believe that? I told them it was very painful, they asked me to take pain medicine. As you can guess, after 1 month, that tooth can not be saved any more (well, by their dentist, who knows it's true or not), and they extracted it right away. Now, I have to pay $2000 to get a new tooth, I was so upset... Never go to any Aspen dental, it is the worst in USA. I wonder when they are going to bankrupt.

Aspen Dental no medical ethics

They are sending my account to collection. I have requested itemized billing listing services rendered, out of pocket payments, insurance payments and credits (yes, credits!). The billing doesn't reflect the services and payments I made. Two weeks after getting a $71. credit for overpayment, I received a bill for over $900. with no additional treatment. The dentures are a problem for over a year. Services were billed and never received by me. This is a scam with a veneer of highly organized dental care.

Aspen Dental up-charging

My experience is best described as like when you go into a quick oil change place and they try to sell you the $200 radiator flush and all you came in for was the $29.99 oil change. I should have heeded the warning from my wife but I went to Aspen Dental in Danbury Ct. I decided with the New Year, I would call for a simple cleaning and check up. Well I went into the office and x-rays were taken and then I saw the dentist. I advised him prior that I had no problems with my teeth, no pain, no issues except for one filling (actually just a portion) of the filling that had fallen out about few months prior. But still with that I had no pain, no problems. I wanted a cleaning and the filling re-filled. First he started in with the “you need a deep cleaning and scaling”. As for the filling that would be simple and easy and we can schedule that for next week. He also recommended a cancer screening. I asked him why I need a cancer screening. Was it my age? (47). There was no history of cancer in my family. Well he never gave me an answer. While I was waiting for the cost of this “deep cleaning” the agent was having a long conversation with the “officer manager” or a better title would be sales manager. The total was $3400 of which I was personally responsible for $1750. They claim that the anti-biotic shots were not covered by my insurance. (Since then I have checked with my insurance and another reputable dentist and was advised that those shots are only necessary if there is an infection but not a routine). I returned on January 19th, for my simple filling. Again, I wish to repeat that I had no pain, no problems and no issues with ANY of my teeth including the tooth with some of the filling missing. Well I sit in the chair and the dentist begins to work. Prior to the procedure he explained nothing. The only question he asked was what color filling do I want? Well unbeknownst to me (he had numbed the area) he was scraping out the entire old filling. He then re-filled as a temporary filling. So thinking all was done and ok, he claims he could only do a temporary filling because he found damage to the pulp of the tooth. Mind you I did not ask him to scrape out the old filling but to fill the area that was missing. He claims I now need a root canal, which of course is close to $4500 and I would have to pay $2000 out of pocket. Not to mention that since I have left the office I have had intermittent pain in that tooth. When I came in I had no problems. In addition that evening after the procedure and when the numbing wore off I was in severe pain. I called the office immediately and gave the dentist the pharmacy number where he said he would call in pain killers. Today is the 25th and let’s just say I am still waiting for him to call in the prescription. When I called back to see why it hadn’t been called in, he stated the number I gave him was a residence number. Absolutely BS. After reading numerous complaints and listening again to my wife’s experience, I clearly see their ploy. It is called up-selling or up-charging. You come in for a simple procedure and their job is to increase your bill so that there is an overage, up and beyond what your insurance will cover. It is that plain and simple. They are more concerned with selling services than the patient.

@Matt from Aspen Dental. You are full of crap like all of Aspen Dental. I did complain, I did call, I did email and NO ONE responded. Actually it has been 2+ years and still awaiting a response. The personnel at the Danbury office, only care for the bottom line and that is the dollar. Don't you guys get it? No obviously you don't. From what I can see from the numerous complaints on this site and others, Aspen Dental has many issues. Every chance I get I tell EVERYONE about the BS of Aspen Dental. I tell friends, family, colleagues, neighbors and total strangers that I meet the crap that Aspen Dental attempts to pull. My concern is for the people that do not realize what you are doing. Where are all the positive comments about Aspen Dental? Oh and not the ones that are made up by Aspen Dental personnel. Lastly, I hope and pray this upcoming class action suit puts Aspen Dental out of business. But you know what sooner or later, word of mouth will take care of that.

Thankyou Sir,
i have no dental insurance and out of work for 9 months and am due for my 6 month cleaning so was gonna go there as it's right near my house and with free X-rays yet.
I didn't realize there is some sort of dental scamming going on out there. I've been calling local dentists to get a price on a simple cleaning and getting the run around.
They all say they need to do a full exam which will cost up to $350? The local Hospital Clinic is not accepting new patients and they told me they don't have discount pricing tho I called 8 months ago and they had $50 cleanings so i don't know where the uninsured/jobless are supposed to go for routine care? Guess I'll stick with my last dentist who now charges $140 for cleaning and insists on x-rays once a year tho I don't think they will force you if you cannot pay. I just found this website by chance too. Very scary. A local private dentist I called would not tell me there rates, the receptionist said I have to come in and she wouldnt tell how much an office vist would cost!

I was previously employed by Aspen Dental for a receptionist job. I had previous experience. I however did not know how to operate their computer system wizards. I was told that they had an excellent training program . The first day I started they put me at the front desk with no one to train me on the computer. Everytime I would ask a question the girl that was to train me would cop an attitude because she was overworked. The office manager was promoted to open other offices around the United States and she had a no care attiude. Patients would call in to ask about their bill and I could'nt answer them because I had no idea how to look this up. The office manager told me that I would have to start taking care of these problems myself and I informed her that I had no idea how to look it up. I told her that I would be happy to if I could get someone to train me . This went on for two weeks and finally I got tired of going in every day and trying to get someone to take the time to show me what I needed to do so that I could do my job properly. It was the worst experience I ever had trying to learn a job and hitting a stone wall trying to get someone to help me. I would of been a great employee with the proper training. I hope that they change their practices with employees and patients as well. Hopefully someone will take notice to improve overall buisness of Aspen Dental.

i agree with everything everyone is writing about Aspen dental. i was a previous employee of aspen and i know what they are all about. they are definately out there to get your money and dont care about the patients. the hygiensts prefer to reschedule prophy cleaning patients and see perio patients in a heARTBEAT. the doctor refuses to dmo patients because he gets no money out of it. they should definately be ut out of buisness for what they are doing. SELFISH, IGNORANT, MONEY HUNGRY and make the employees work like dogs and pay them minimum wage.

my experience was at Aspen in Goshen, In. No problems with office staff or dental assistants, only the terrible Dr. Windsor.

I am a pediatric dental asst. since 1990, so I know a thing or two about dentistry.

I could go on for days about Windsor. He is 100 percent jerkoff.
He never speaks, not to greet me, not to tell me what he's doing, nothing. I had my eyes closed and was very numb when he numbed me more without asking if I needed it. I was numb for 12 plus hours! Bad chairside.
While silently working on two average fillings, he rested, or should I say mashed down, his big dumb forearm so hard on my forehead that it bent my glasses, so I opened my eyes. They were passing instruments OVER MY FACE! This is a big no- no that should have been day one of dental school.
now, two short months later, the crappy fillings have always trapped food because he left a ledge, and floss popped one out last night.
I told Aspen I would never be back, so now I get to pay for someone else to fix Windsors lousy work, yay.
oh yeah, he also recommended endo or extraction on a tooth that I have since had x-rayed and shown to two other dentists. They both agreed that the tooth (pain free, never a problem) is fine and Windsor is a quack.

My wife went in to Aspen today. She's had six month cleanings at other dentists and always received compliments on her dental hygiene. The dentist recommended a scaling. We've got great insurance through Delta Dental, but they wanted $600 for antibiotics and irrigation, and a $300 deposit up front. Seems like a rip-off, esp. in light of these previous comments.

I went in to have a filling replaced that fell out. Ant like others was told i needed deep scale cleaning with med inplants, a tooth pulled and particial dentures. i went to another dentist for my onyl molar left to be pulled and said it absolutely does not need to be pulled he drilled and filled and off I went. I should not have gone back to aspen but i did. i got care credit card and they charge the card the max i had available which was $5000.00 I only had $1900.00 of dental work done this was in oct of 08. I am still fighting with them to credit my acct. They say it covers future dental work when I need it. I have never been charged for a service i have not recieved and told in case you need it, it has already ben paid for. I am going on 5 mos of we are trying to fix the problem i have called thier corporate office and i get the same run a round. if you have not gone to aspen dental yet____ DONT, RUN! they are the biggest rip off, and with the economy the way it is, shame on them for taken advantage of people.

Aspen Dental it felt like an auto repair shop

Aspen Dental in Danbury Ct. This place reminded me of one of those quick lube places where you come in for the $20 oil change special but they insist on adding on, adding on until you are convinced you need $300 worth of work done to your vehicle. Unfortunately, I should have listened to the warning I was given by my wife. I went into Aspen Dental on the first occasion to get a simple cleaning and check up. Well after an examination it was determined I had no major issues with my teeth but would require a good cleaning. Then it went to a good scaling. Then it went to a severe scaling. Well low and behold the bill for this 3 stage cleaning would be a close to $4, 000 which $1700 or so I would be responsible for. What I found very strange is that prior to them giving me the cost the person about to give me the information as to the cost, was in "conference" with the office manager on cost of this work. My 2nd visit was just worse. At my first visit my only issue was part of an old filling had come out. The Dentist only asked what color would I like the filling. Now keep in mind that I have never, never had any pain or issues with any of my teeth especially this tooth in question. Well he commenced to work on the tooth and unknown to me he filled the tooth with a "temporary" filling, not a permanent one. Why did he do this? This was his and the office excuse as to how they could tack on "extra" charges and then now say there was a problem with the tooth, because he "dug" out the old filling and stated I needed a root canal done now. So he fills the tooth with a temporary filling, I now need a root canal and since I left that office which was January 19th I have been in pain ever since. It seems when he dug out the old filling he hit a nerve on the tooth and that is why I now experience pain on a daily basis, when I had NO PAIN in anyway shape or form prior to entering this facility. I called the dentist that evening and advised him I was in pain. He stated he was going to call in a prescription for pain killers. Today is January 24th, and he still has not called in the prescription. When I finally called the corporate office to complain, he then called me back 2 days later to state that I gave him the wrong number. What BS. I have now taken the step of contacting, their corporate office, my insurance company, and I will contact whomever governs dentists in Connecticut. I am still waiting to hear back from the corporate office.

Aspen Dental horrible!!! stay away!!!

Where do I even start? Unprofessional receptionist with no knowledge of forms available on the website, was not able to use coupon on website even though a co-worker (and boyfriend) were able to...under 21 WITH dental insurance, 10 root canals, $12, 000+ to fix everything, 3 appointments per root canal, rude dentists, etc etc. I could write for days!

If you're even thinking about coming here, think again. They will take your money!

I visited an Aspen Dental office in Farmington, CT this past week. The front receptionist was very cordial and accomodating. My initial consultation appointment time was delayed for about a half hour (possibly they overbooked or there may have been someone with a dental emergency before me). The X-ray technician was very proficient and took the numerous pictures in an expedient fashion. The dentist I met with was very knowledgeable, although we had a difference of opinion on my dental problems and the order of steps required to correct them. She agreed to perform some work for me in the order I chose and I made another appointment for the following day. The "office manager" was the only snag in the whole scenario. She was bordering on rude when I went over the huge list of services that kicked out of their computer, claiming that basically you had to sign on for the whole kit and caboodle ($5, 000) instead of doing it bit by bit, as I was on self-pay with no dental insurance. The following day, the dentist from the day before performed the work I requested first, and I was enormously pleased with the results. Point of note, I was taken in just minutes after my set appointment time the second day as opposed to the initial consultation the day before. Again, the only snag was the office manager, who practically sneered at me and stated that Aspen Dental farms out the balance of work that I needed performed. They are not an all-inclusive full service organization and you need to state exactly what your dental needs are to ascertain if they perform that at their particular office. I called the customer service center and they did give me a referral to another dentist in their network (receptionist was very nice at that other dentist's office when I called to make an appointment). The second dentist also quoted a price that was one half of the estimate that Aspen Dental had printed out for me for the initial extra work I needed done. The receptionist also stated that I could have it done in segments that I could afford, since I do not have dental insurance. The only trepidation I had was when I questioned the Aspen Dental customer relations girl exactly how they picked referral dentists (does the dentist solicit them or do they solicit dentists to join their network).

Aspen Dental deceptive business practices

I went to Aspen Dental for a free examination. I went because my wife had some work done and was very uncomfortable with the business practices involving upselling, bait and switch and general unethical treatment. I was also motivated to go as my insurance changed and I was forced to find a new dentist. I got my free examination and was told I needed a deep cleaning, 4 cavities repaired, 2 fillings removed that were failing, a bridge removed that was old with one supporting tooth was weak. I was also told I had bleeding gums in which I do not. The dentist then proceeded to agressively dig at my gums and then with a swab show me blood as proof of the bleeding gums. It was clear to me I was being played as a sucker.

I asked the business person to provide me with a detailed statement of the work I needed. He agreed and then never gave it to me. Rather he gave me an estimate for about $1400 for the cavities and a deep cleaning. He marked it down to ~$700 because he claimed I had a "good insurance plan". In fact, I had no insurance rather I had a plan that if participating members subscribed to the plan they charged published set rates for different services. I wasn't going to let these people to anything to me.

I then went to the dentist that has cared for me for 20+ years. I was told I had no tooth decay, gums were fine, bridge is fine, bones are strong. It's clear to me that I was being set up for treatment I didn't need, upselling, bait and switch. I recommend to stay around from these clowns. They are potentially dangerous to your health. If our state cared they would close these people down. Its very clear to me that a few simple visits by people from the state would see the practices. I have to wonder why this hasn't been done yet. Then again its Ma. government...

So you have enough time to go to the dentist your wife had a horrible experience at and then, you had even more time to go back to your old dentist to have him say your teeth are healthy?

Massachusetts government is what it is because people vote Deval Patrick into office. Every election is the same democratic junk, nothing new!

Lastly, don't you think the BBB and Ag's office has most likely already done an investigation and found nothing?

Aspen Dental ripped off on dentures

I had 100% coverage on new dentures up to $1500.00, so I decided to get new dentures, I went to Aspen and the woman that handles the billing and ordering of the dentures, did not even ask me which ones I wanted, she automatically set me up for the top of the line dentures, which cost $2000.00, knowing that I would still have to pay the remainder, I was approved for a GM card which allowed me to make payments. After months and months of trying to get the dentures at a proper fit, I went to get my new dentures, when they put them in my mouth, they looked terrible, and they didn't fit right, I couldn't talk, nor wear them, after months and months of trying again to get them to fit, a new dentist from Easton, decided to "help" me and make me new bottom dentures, they fit wore than the other ones, and when I told him just this, he took the attitude that he was not making me another set, nor giving me my money back, but I could have the first ones back...why would I want another set that didn't fit?...I decided to try and wear them, but when I compared the top dentures to the bottom dentures, the bottom dentures were not the same quality, the teeth were yellow, they were the low grade teeth put in a $ 1000.00 price tag...I am contacting consumer affairs and the BBB to get my money back...I have to past the uppers in once a day, and the bottoms in 4-5 times a day...

The fact that they don't accept title 19, doesn't mean anything. Nobody is obligated to accept goverment insurance. And a lot of dentists don't accept it, so there is nothing to be suspicious about. As far as the cst of dentures go, it included your extractions. Did the price for dentures that you fund during your research include that? I can assure you, it did not. And before you ask -- no, I don't work for Aspen, although I am a dentist.

Just visited a new aspen dental office that opened in West Burlington. My appointment was at 8:00, left the office at 11:00. Nothing more than an exam and x-rays were done. I went to get a price on a set of dentures (full upper and lower) and was quoted 7, 500 including extractions, my insurance covers 1500 for dentures and some of the extractions. My estimate was 5, 564 after insurance. Thought that this was a little high so I searched for average cost of full dentures in Iowa. Came back with results stating that the average cost of dentures in Iowa were ~$2, 500. After a little more searching found info stating that premium dentures could range from $[protected] (for top of the line), funny because even their lowest option was still quoted as 4200 after insurance. The office manager "didn't have time to break-down the costs for me as they were double-booked and needed to get to other patients".

This is when I got online and looked up reviews of aspen. Let me tell you what: I have seen child molesters get better reviews from the public. I've been searching for an hour now and have yet to come across ONE review that wasn't horrible (besides on their website). Anybody reading reviews of this company would be well advised to stay away.

On a side note:
While waiting for my exam a lady came in for her appointment and when asked for her insurance she gave them a title 19 card and was told that they don't accept title 19. This made me suspicious from the start. What kind of company will not accept a government paid health care service? answer: One that is out to over bill, over charge, and provide shady service.

Aspen Dental Dental Services

I started going to Aspen Dental to have some work done in Vestal, New York. At that time the dentist said there was an area of concern on my tongue maybe being cancerous. However, was not able to make an appointment with the surgeon because I had 2 different insurance companies and hadn't gotten the other card yet.

Didn't care and refused to bill my insurance company for the visit to the surgeon. Was taken in and a print off was run for all the services that I had to have to have done and until I was able to come up with 50% of the fees then nothing could be scheduled.

I felt so be betrayed...My insurance would have covered the fees with no problem for the surgeon. Instead of letting my take advantage of the bennefits that I worked so hard to get they said that I would need to sign a contract and pay for services that weren't even going to be rendered in the same calendar year.

Then I had a problems with my face being numb on my left side because I had some infection going on in my upper left side... I went in and they wouldn't even let me see a Dentist until I signed a contract.

John - the General Manager - came out of the office because I wasn't going to sign because not all work was being done. I explained to him that I had a problem with being charged for work that wasn't done in the same calendar year. He was one of the most rudiest people I have ever seen and I thought to myself he is a General Manager? As a matter of fact the whole office was so unprofessional it made me sick. When I just went in for a numbness on my left side of my face - they didn't care if you don't sign a contract then you don't get to see the dentist. John - the General Mgr. said if you don't like the way the do things go some where else! I said how can you charge for something that is not going to be done until the following year. He looked at me and said are you wanting me to commit insurance fraud. I was so angry I up and left that office. Went out to the car and called the office and who answers the phone ((((John - General Manager)))). He really was so unprofessional it made me ill at my stomach. I told him was face was numb and that you refused me service... I also told John - General Manager that I was going to call both insurance companies and file a complaint against Aspen Dental.

He then got half way decent and said well come on back and you can see a dentist. Well, I had taken off work and had to go back to work so he said he would talk to the Dentist and have them call a presciption in for the infection in my mouth.

To all of you that are thinking about having work done re-think going their because the same thing will happen to you. All these people care about in getting you in and then running their famous printouts and having you sign a contract in which you aren't allowed to pay when they do the work.

Aspen Dental shouldn't even has their doors open to the public because of the way they treat their customers.

Aspen Dental they lied about their services!

I was told that $10, 300.00 would cover everything from my initial consultation through surgery and up to receiving my permanent partial dentures. After my last visit I was surprised to find out that not all of the services were covered by the initial $10, 300.00 and I still have not gotten my permanent dentures. Now I owe an additional $400+ for appointments that I was told was covered. What's even worse is that part of my restoration failed and they are billing me once again for a filling that didn't even last 6 months. I have no insurance so I am forced to pay out of pocket. I AM NOT SMILING!

Hello to all who have been burned by aspen dental!

My story is probably the longest and that is why i am not going to type it!
But my story started back on june the 14th, 2017 and is still on going and it is a horror show!

I can honestly say that i have become a recluse because i don't have a good set of dentures to go out and even go to the movies. I don't even go and visit my own family either because i look terrible. (By the way i am only going to be 55 and that is still very young to be going through something like this) !

And talk about pain and suffering, unbelievalbe what they have done to me and so many others
.
I have contacted the senator of new hampshire and let him know exactly what is going on up here.
Something really needs to be done about this so called dental office that cares for their patients.

If anyone would like to contact me and talk by e mail, i would love to hear from you.
Oh, by the way, i. Like many of you don't have a lot of money, i live on social security and i had to make sure that i had everything paid in full before they even pulled my teeth. How's that grab ya huh?

What a country we live in.
Very depressing and horrified at the same time.
Diane

Aspen dental rips people off they take your money and try to get you to buy more services without actually providing the service you asked for. I made an appointment at Aspen for a cleaning...they never cleaned his teeth at all but they told him about all the future work he was going to need. They ran my insurance to see how much they could get from us for services and wanted to make more appointments for more services without actually ever cleaning his teeth...which was what we asked to be done...they took an x ray and found nothing wrong so they put together a treatment plan based on root planing and perio treatments without cleaning his teeth. Don't you think you should start with cleaning off the plaque before determining the need for root planing. They told me on the phone the appointment was for a cleaning but I assure you he left there with no less plaque on his teeth just less cash in his wallet.

since 2017 I have had three dental crowns put in my mouth ALL failed Have started implant procedures as replacements. The first crown on implant by post has failed and now I go about with three plastic temps. which come off all the time This work will not be complete until mid 2017 and three years later and the I can not be sure that these crowns by implants will not all fail. My experience with this dental office has cost me much time and thousands of dollars for work which would have been correctly diagnosed in the beginning would have been completed over a year ago. They have taken my money and have provided no service. The plastic temps. fall off at embarrassing times in public and while with friends

Most of the dentists here are absolutely terrible. The first time I went to get a filling, the dentist left me in the chair by myself without saying a word. I got up and saw he was lazing in his office! Another time for my filling the dentist who was going to do it left and let another dentist do it for him. She cracked my tooth too. The last time I went the dentist I was with this time decided he was funny, and kept asking if I smoked even after I had said no. There had been some snarky comments about my needing braces as well. Overall as a person I feel belittled in their care and I would much rather have a cavity than see any of their doctors ever again.

I went to aspen dental for thousands of dollars of work. I was told I would be receiving services come to find out these services were never provided but I DID pay for them. I have been left with bone spicules and fragments of tooth left behind. There are many problems I have been left with and Aspen is trying to rectify the situation with me by referring me to a dental rehabilitation specialist. BEWARE DO NOT GO HERE! The staff as well as cooperate are not very pleasant to deal with and I would stay away from this place at all cost. I have temporary dentures that do not fit as well as bone spicules, and pieces of tooth left behind. It has been one month since the surgery and I am still fighting tooth and nail to get anywhere!

On June 1, 2017, Aspen Dental charged my husband $348.00 for services that our insurance company was to pay because Aspen's computer had wrong info about what our insurance company would pay. I called Aspen immediately and they verified everything I said that was suppose to be covered was correct since they called our insurance company. At that point, they would not cancel the charge. Instead they submitted a new claim to our insurance company and the insurance paid them $200.00 nine days later. It has been 7 weeks and Aspen Dental still has not re-imbursed us our $200.00 credit. Every time I call them, they are very lax about the whole situation. Needless to say, we won't be going there again. Time for a new dentist.

Avoid Aspen Dental at all cost! They over-charge customers for service and do not respond to complaints. They lure customers in with their slick ads which promise to give you your smile back. But the reality is quite a different matter. They give you this estimate that any auto-body repair shop would blush at. Then they over-charge for services, billing even if the service isn't provided. When you complain, they just ignore it. Customer satisfaction is not their ultimate priority. They are just a money-generating machine. Customers are cattle to them. The locations are dirty and un-kempt. The waiting rooms look ok, but the actual dental room is dirty. Do not spend your hard-earned money with these guys. You are better off finding a local dental office that will stand by their work and not over-charge for their services. Avoid anything to do with these scammers.

I went to aspen dental on may 13, 2017. The total of my care was 2, 416.00 they gave me 100.00 dollar credit and I financed the rest. They only told me what I needed after they looked up what I was approved for. I paid 269.00 dollars that day for the extraction. They claim I was given almost 500.00 in credits, where, it does not add up. I could not talk to the woman, she was right I was wrong and that was it. I wrote aspen dental, I received a call from them. Same story, they are right I am wrong. This is a horrible way to treat people. It is a fly by night operation, the girl who cleaned my teeth spent maybe 5 minutes cleaning them. I go to a dental clinic now, they spent two hours cleaning my teeth, big difference. They rip people off for a service they do not do. People beware of aspen dental I am very angry about the way I was treated, now I get good dental care. And I did send the paperwork to back up why I feel I was ripped off. They gave me no proof!

Aspen Dental awful company

I too am a very dissatisfied patient ('customer') of Aspen Dental. Have been going thru heck with these people for almost a year. Too many problems to list here, still haven't gotten the money back I deserve, and they are refusing at this point to reimburse my insurance co. and I never accepted their crummy ill fitting dentures or partials. Still have their crummy ill fitting 'temporary' teeth, only because I cannot afford to go elsewhere until I get my problems resolved with my insurance co. They are thieves who only care about the 'bottom line' like most corporations. PLEASE if you are having problems with them, do what I have done and contact your state's Attorney General. Let them know what a scam this place is and then maybe someone will do something about them! I live in Ohio and would like very much to take them to court, but cannot afford an attorney right now. Anyone know about a class action suit going on? I would certainly join in!

So this is very interesting. I needed a cleaning, had to go to though a massive amount of xrays, even though I had recent one from a my previous dentist. They took my Blood pressure and told me my blood pressure was high. A follow up with my GP proved they were wrong. SO after my cleaning they told me I had gum disease and and need the deep cleaning. I seemed fishy, so I called my previous dentist from where I used to live. He said well you xrays are about 6 month old but he didn't' see where deep cleaning was necessary.

After reading the reviews above all I can say is it Sounds like a pattern to rake in money to a big box corporation to me!
Lesson...seek a second opinion!

I went for the free exray and consult advertised, was going to get a cleaning and instead the dentist said I had gum disease and needed a expensive deep cleaning proceedure. The exray tech did not know what she was doing at all. Took exray after exray with a outdated device that fit my mouth very uncomfortably.
I was offered to sign up for the payment plan, a loan more or less, I had no job at the time so not sure how she thought I could qualify. I left to think about it...
I called another dentist and got quoted half the price of Aspen's price for same thing and so I went to the other dentist and the exrays there only took a sec. and got a deep clean for half the price.
Will never go to Aspen Dental and am glad they did not get any credit card info on me that day.

I drove my sisters to the office in Springfield, Il. WOW that is a scam.
They advertise full set of replacement dentures for $1899.00 and then they give you this discount. The initial cost before the discount is higher and the price after the discount is higher than they advertise.
Arrived at 3:00 p.m. left at 6:10 p.m. Found a place right here in Peoria, IL. that will give the same quality dentures, and do the extractions for $869.00. for upper denture only.
I would advise anyone to stay very far away from Aspen Dental!
I would advise anyone that has gone, to file a complaint with the better business bureau, as this stays on their record.
I understand one man owns this operation with investors, so we all need to send him a message that he is out of business...

I too have become another victim of Aspen Dental. I live in South Portland, Me. They told me I needed a special cleaning and Ihave the begining stages of gum disease, at the end of my exspensive cleaning I got a stupid toothbrush and a rinse..WOW! They acted like they were doing me a favor when they signed me up with care credit. Now when they were selling me on this wonderful card they made it sound like it was a credit card. What gets me is they billed the whole amount of suggested work all at once even though I hadn't had it done yet. What is that all about? So I refused some of there sugestions and the financial lady was so rude to me when I told her I wasn't getting things done and gave me attitude because now she had to adjust my total amount owed. I feel like I am getting ripped off because I have to pay finance charges on money I am not using and will not be using. I am interested in this class action law-suit for many more reasons then what I have stated and will be in contact with the Attorney General for my state. LETS DO IT!

Aspen Dental charges for work not done

My husband broke a tooth and our new insurance wants us to use Aspen Dental.
He went for the first visit, an evaluation. They told him he needs 12 caps, and has
the beginning stages of gum disease.
Today, they worked on his broken tooth. It's dead, so instead of extracting it, he got a root canal and now we have to go back for a crown.
I don't have the kind of money they are charging. If you don 't do the work they recommend, they bill you astronomically for basic things. The x-rays are a joke, it took an hour for them to get a clear set, where have all the honest dentists gone?

Yes, the same here in Aspen Dental in Fairlawn, Ohio, 3737 W Market St, Fairlawn, OH 44333, [protected]

We switched to it over an year ago.

A few months after we switched, the manager began to cook the book, charging services never provided, cheating both the insurance and us, mostly on my wife since her English is limited.

I confronted the manager several times, and she always blamed human error in book keeping

Last Dec, I demanded the account ledger and caught all the charges on non-existing services, one was just two-day old!

Dozen or so people also caught their cheating

If you used this office before, make sure you ask for a detail account print-out and go through it thoroughly

On top of the cheating, their works are terrible: Not only they chatted during cleaning, one time, when we took my girl home after cleaning, we notice a big chuck of deposit was not removed

Aspen Dental rude, poor work you name it

At first I was oh so happy, But I switched from the head dentist, I could just not take the way she spoke too and belittled her staff in front of clients. So then she wasnt' nice to me, since I said I could not sit in a chair and listen to it. Then came the dentures. The tempories were nice looking. The permenants, that was another story. The temps look and fit better. They look like they are pushed back in my mouth and look like dentures. I said I didn't like them and showed them where they looked bad and said I could not keep them in. LOL I was informed that it was the way it had to be. They relined them the teeth to fit better. I got home 2 hours later and bit into an egg salad sandwich and they fell out. Of course they didn't believe me.

I never have gone back for my permenant lower teeth. the temps were terrible. My sister (at the same time) had a similar experience. They ground her permenate teeth down so the dentures would fit the bite would be right. GRRRRRR!
As I was going through my dental work. the secondary dentists came and went. So did the rest of the staff. No one could work for the witch. The head of billing was great, at first. Then all the upset clients in the waiting room. Just unbearable.

If I thought I could get any coverage to undo this mess I would go for it. Stay away.

I went to aspen once to have a tooth removed, and On the chart they had said that they removed 2.But they only removed 1, so they charged people dental plan for 2, The 2nd time was today, I called last week to make an appointment to have 8 teeth removed so I could get dentures made, [not for aspen, aspen wanted over $1000.00 more for the same denture.]The lady said to come in today, went their and they [aspen] had all my info, in the computer WRONG. no wonder their billing is so messed up. So here I am ready to have my teeth removed and now the lady say's OH you have to have an Exam.I told here that I had one before and aspen told me that I would have to have these SAME teeth removed.I talked with the Manager and told him off and told him that ALL the people on the internet were correct saying that aspen is NO GOOD. All they want is your money. Only reason im having them removed their is because of my insurance plan.I would NEVER have my Dentures made their, pluse like I said, I found a very nice Family type dentice with LETTERS hanging in his office, and He will save me OVER $1000.00. Pluse he CARES how you feel. NOT ASPEN.I have a good layer, if they screw up ANYTHING with the extractions. This is the Aspen in Waterbury ct. aspen is a NO NO.

I had a filling done w/ Aspen dental in Bristol, CT-I have terrible anxiety about going to the dentist, so they doctor who came to work on me just smiled when I told him that-never talked to me during the "procedure" and when he was done, which I was never told he was, he aggressivly swung the tray away from me and stood up and left-I was just laying there, not really knowing what was going on, and asked the tech if we were done, and she, never looking up said "yeah"...I called the office manager later to ask when I could eat or drink b/c nobody ever gave me any instructions, and she chuckled and said "oh, you can eat and drink as soon as you want to"...yeah, well as I said, nobody even talked to me, so I didn't know that-I told her how unprofessional her staff was, and she told me that she would talk to them, no apology...its now 2 weeks later, the pain is just diminishing, and need I remind you, it was just a filling, I felt like something was stuck in my tooth, so I looked in the mirror and a red string was coming out from underneath my tooth-I called the office, the same manager talked to me like I was crazy and told me that she didn't know what I was talking about, they don't use strings and that I would have to come in-I then called a friend of mine, who is a dental hygienist, and she told me that dentists DO use strings, but for root canals and they are suppose to take them out before you leave...hmmmm...needless to say, I cancelled my appt-these people are totally unprofessional, I cannot believe the lack of patient care...disgusting.

Aspen Dental periodontal work

I went in to have a broken tooth fixed. They told me I needed periodontal work done before they would touch the tooth and whisked me to a desk and had me apply for a $1900 loan for the work. I was too intimidated to get a second opinion. People have since told me periodontal issues are easily visible...receding gums etc, and I had none of that. And the hygenist did the work, not even a periodontist.

I'm a periodontist and it's unfortunate that your hygienist/dentist did not thoroughly explain to you the causes of periodontal disease and the risks of not treating it prior to doing any other dental work such as crowns and fillings. It's not true what you heard from your friends that periodontal disease is "obvious". If it's so obvious, anyone can become a dentist, right? It can only be diagnosed through xrays and a clinical oral exam. Periodontal disease can be painless and someone would not know anything is wrong until the disease is very severe. You should be thankful that the dentist you saw diagnosed periodontal disease for you. Many dentists "miss" it, believe it or not. In regards to a hygienist performing the treatment, yes, hygienists are trained to treat the first phase of periodontal disease treatment, which is the non-surgical portion (scaling and root planing "deep cleaning"). Then after this phase, if surgery is necessary, then a periodontist would perform the gum surgery.
I think this was all a mis-communication and lack of patient education on their part. I guess they overbook and don't have enough time to explain things to you.

Aspen Dental creative billing practices

When I first went to Aspen Dental, one of the dentists that happen to be there that day looked at my teeth after extensive xrays were taken. Without discussing anything with me, I was taken into an office where a printout was given to me listing all the procedures I needed to have done. It included a Full Mouth Debridement with three mouth rinses, Routine cleaning, Adult Fluoride Treatment, two fillings, and a Crown. This really surprised me, because it had been only 6 months since I had seen my regular dentist who dropped carrying my Cigna Dental Insurance. Needless to say, it all came to hundreds of dollars out of pocket. I asked what the Full Mouth Debridement was. I was told it was a deep cleaning using ultra sound, which was not covered by insurance ($169). The three mouth rinses would also cost me another $93. With the Fluoride treatment, the cleaning would cost me $303 out of pocket, instead of the fully covered cleaning my insurance normally pays for. The Full Mouth Debridement using ultra sound amounted to a regular cleaning by the hygenist (no ultra sound). That was the first $169 rip-off. With the mouth rinses, it came to $303 for my normal free cleaning. When it came time to get a cap on one tooth, the dentist on duty that day only filled the tooth, and said I could have it capped sometime in the future if I wanted to. Instead of charging me for a filling that would be completely covered, they billed it as a Core Buildup with Pins, which is something that is part of a capping procedure if I decided to have it done. The dentist got $249 for that, of which I had to pay $61. So, basically, I got ripped off for about $365 for something that should have been completely covered, based on what they really did. This amounted to nothing but "creative billing". I complained about the charges, but they would not back down. I had to pay for each procedure at the time of service. I can see why. They have my money and will not give it back. The $40 charge for the Adult Fluoride would have been covered, but they charged me anyway without sending the claim to my insurance company. To me, this is a fraud, and a scam.
The people were real nasty when I questioned their billing practices. I have never seen anything like this in my life. My only advice is if you are looking for a dentist, DO NOT GO TO ASPEN. It will be a big mistake. Just look at the other posts if there is any doubt in your mind.

Angry Customer: The fact Aspen Dental turned you away for the procedure your Mother needed may have been a blessing in disguise. After reading several other negative experiences with Aspen, things could have gotten worse if the procedure was not done correctly by an experienced oral surgeon. It sounds like you are ahead in both the final cost, and the quality of service. Dealing with Aspen's billing department can be quite an ordeal. They never returned any of my calls.
Take care, and I wish your Mom the best of care.

John, you certainly have a right to your opinion, but it should be based on facts, not personal guessing. Your opening statement that Cigna never covers adult flouride treatments does not agree with the written statement I received from Cigna twice, along with confirmation about this over the telephone. Remember, all Cigna dental plans are not the same. What they cover can be modified by the company that offers their insurance as an option. Aspen could have called them and cleared it up immediately, but they refused to do so. Why? I have no interest in going item by item with someone who either works for Aspen, or is just trying to put me down for the fun of it. How do you know my dental conditions in making your judgements? Boy, you are really good!
Just look at the many other complaints against Aspen and you will see a pattern to the complaints. How can you ignore that? Are we all wrong and you are right? Enough of this nonsense.
I'm glad you find Aspen Dental a great practice, and wish you the best going to them in the years to come. If I felt the same as you, I would do the same . I know what I experienced with the people I had to deal with. Nothing you say can change that.

Even, i am having bad experience with Aspen dental billing in Strongsville, Clevelnad. I had Crown replacement. What ever invoice he gave me, i paid everything. Even insurance company paid more than what they were expecting from insurance. After a month, i received another bill asking me to pay $167. When i called them for the reason, they say, its showing that balance on your account and you have to pay. I called them twice and they are insisting me to pay. There is an accountant called Matt. He is so rude and money minded. I am not sure, what to do now. Can i consult Lawyer with these details?

Rocket,
You don't seem to really know what is going on if you think your insurance company is looking out for you. Insurance companies are a for-profit business just like Aspen Dental. Your complaint is with the business practices & aspen dental as a corporation but you want to tell people to file a complaint to the state dental board. Did you like the dentist who did your work? IF you like the dentist but don't like aspen and you file a complaint with the dental board, the dentist get's the complaint on his record, not the corporation. Way to go Rocket. "unbillable codes?" You have no clue how dental billing works so stop advising others who read these complaints with your ignorance. Each procedure provided has an ADA code to describe it. If there is a procedure not adequately described by an ADA code, there are codes for "by report" where the dentist provides a narrative to what was done. Don't post things on the internet when you have no clue what you are talking about. Is Aspen a terrible company? Probably not, they probably have some terrible employees but also some great ones. Maybe if people didn't have terrible hygiene & actually brushed their teeth & maintained regular dental visits, they would not have to pay thousands of dollars to get their jacked up mouths back to normal.

First, I would like to say to Charles; John must be the bitter one with a toothache. $5200 cash for dental work? Usually if you pay cash, it's a sliding scale. Second, I wish we had his ability, to know for a fact, that you were over the age of 19 since your age was not noted. And I believe the point was about Aspen Dental, not Cigna.
My personal experience with them has not been a great one also. I have gone to an office PA, maybe 3 times and took my son, twice. I chose them because I thought, more than one dentist, won't have to wait as long as a private office. True, at first. I liked the 1st dentist. I went for an extraction and root canal. Went well as it could, for a root canal. Went back to have the cap put in, new dentist, new assisant, new everyone? My dentist "was no longer in that office". Had my work done, few months later, my son needed to have an examine for school enrollment. Now, a third dentist.. Looks to me like even the dentist don't like Aspen Dental. They keep leaving. LOL
As for planning and billing; they want you to have everything done that they can come up with.
1. Yes, they over charge and balance bill which is illegal to do. Always go by what your insurance says you owe. Do not prepay! Never pay for services not rendered! What if you don't get the work done, what if you die? They got your money for free.
2. Get a reciept.
3. Verify with your insurance company what your out of pocket cost will be BEFORE you have anything done.
4. They use unbillable codes for their "special dentures". You will be charged for them.
You wouldn't pay a mechanic before he fixed your car, don't pay Aspen either!
Shop around and always get a second opinion if you think your getting ripped off.
File complaints to your state's Board of Dental Examiners and ADA.

I took my mother to Aspen to have 5 teeth removed, she is in poor health and they gave me a hard time and said they would need to have the oral surgeon do the procedure. A date was schedule and she was required to pay 1/2 the bill which was $900.00. The oral surgeon decided he would not do the extractions and told us to go somewhere else to have her teeth pull. Which I did and within a week she had her teeth pull and on the road to recovery and only paid $600.00 for the prcedure where as Aspen was charging her $1800.00! From the day that Aspen tool us they would not be doing my mothers extractions I requested a refund which 2 months have gone by and I still do not have the refund! I call on a daily basis at this point. I was told they needed to wait in case my mother changed her mind and wanted dentures, then they mailed it to the wrong address and now they are saying it is in the mail. Yeah right for 2 weeks it has been in the mail. I am besides myself, I cannot get the number for the billing department to call them direct. They don't return calls. I am about ready to report them to the Better Business Bureau and go to channel 5 news "Ask me Hank" for help. DON'T GO TO ASPEN DENTAL, they overcharge, mess up their billing and do not work with you to resolve the problems.

First things first... CIGNA will never cover you 100% of a Fluoride treatment, just does not happen, I know because I happen to have CIGNA. Cigna does not cover Fluouride over the age of 19. So yes they are correct in stating that pricing for the Fluoride. Secondly, you need to get the word Cleaning out of your head. What you have is a periodontal disease going on in your mouth which means that you needed gum therapy not a cleaning. A full mouth debridement is not and has never been considered a cleaning. Go to a periodontist and ask them what they think a full mouth debridement is, they will never tell you it is a cleaning. The dentist is correct in stating that a Core Build up with pins is equal to a filling. It is up to you to continue that process of crowning that tooth, which by the way, you obviously have chosen not to do that, because if you had, the dentist would have done a Crown Prep with Impressions. I know all of this because at one time I too had some serious dental issues, and no, not by Aspen but by my own private dentist. It is sad to see other people downing companies that are probably doing a heck of a great job, but people like you get so bitter because you cannot face the fact that you in fact have true periodontal issues going on that for your own health reasons should be taken care of. I know once again because I too could not face the issues that I had, it was hard for me to bear that I had to pay 5200.00 in treatment from my own dentist without insurance. Which by the way, you should try and pay 800.00 for that so called cleaning that you keep referring too as I had the same thing at my own dentist. You should be lucky to only have to pay the 169.00. Quit complaining and making up false information and get yourself back to healthy while you still can, some of us cannot afford insurance, but know that our health is more important than doing all of this nonsense!
