I replied to a "Craigslist ad for a Personal/Administrative Assistant. Reading it you would have thought the dream job had just dropped from the heavens. Momentarily I got excited, then decided to do a little research. I Googled Angel Investment Network and SCAM came up on about 5 different sites. I was going to respond back and ask for references on this company just to see what he says, and ask to speak with the last PA. Below is the email on craigslist I responded to.

I'm Brian Peterson, 52, and a father of 2 wonderful kids, a successful entrepreneur and investor, a member of the Angel Investment Network. I'm also a research journalist and I travel every now and then within and outside the US working on various independent projects, this is why I need someone who can help keep up to date with all of my activities especially when I'm away and amidst my busy schedule.

I have had a previous PA who has been very commendable in her activities and who has been part of my life for the past 6 months, she has since moved on with her personal life and it has affected me in a way. I found her previously on the craigslist website and I sincerely hope I will be able to find someone again who will be as efficient as she has been.
Please note that you are being hired only on a personal level. All correspondences would be made and promptly reported to me personally. The position is part time and home-based meaning you can work most times from your home as long as you have a regular internet access. You are also hired on a trial basis for now until we are able to see how well we fit in, this however does not affect your weekly wage.

Most of your activities will be carried out locally and most official packages will be delivered via posts. You will be actively involved in my personal, business and financial life.

In summary, your activities as my assistant amongst other things will include;

* Acting as an alternative telephone correspondence;
* Running personal errands, supervisions and monitoring;
* Organizing and maintaining diaries, memos and making appointments;
* Dealing with incoming email, faxes and post;
* Carrying out background research and presenting findings;
* A personal reminder for Schedules, programs, flights and keeping me up to date with them as they come up;
* Arranging travel and accommodation
* Carrying out specific projects and research;
* Taking on some of the my responsibilities and working more closely with management and other staff related to me;
* Making regular contacts and drop-offs on my behalf.
* Handling and monitoring financial activities.
* Processing and taking charge of weekly payments and purchases.
* You will also be a part of my household and a helping hand to issues as they arise.
* General clerical activities.

Basic wage is $550 a week.

Any extra personal expenses (transport, gas, etc) incurred by you while on an errand or otherwise will also be reimbursed by me at the end of each working week.

This position is very flexible and it is difficult judging the exact number of hours you will be doing, just bear it in mind that there will be busier weeks than others with a steady pay. Working with me is basically about instructions and following them, my only fear is that I may come at you impromptu sometimes, so I need someone who can be able to meet up with my irregular timings. There is also a very sensitive issue on trust, dedication and accountability which I

believe will resolve itself as time goes on.

This is only an introductory e-mail, as time goes on we should be able to arrange a proper meeting to get things started officially. I'm currently in England now for a project, however, I do have a number of things you could help me with immediately, prior to my arrival.

I'm noticing the last comments were in 2010. Just wanted to confirm that this Craigslist post is still alive to this day. I am from San Diego, CA and I applied to multiple jobs. This one responded back and sounded great at first. However, they kept pushing me to start immediately and for my personal information and ignored my requests to meet in person prior to agreeing to work together. Who hires someone and offers to pay them 600 dollars immediately before even meeting them? I asked for confirmation of his identity through LinkedIn, a website, Facebook, Twitter.. anything at all, and it was constantly ignored. He simply would respond "I need your address to send money to and your tasked will start immediately" every time.

I'm glad I found this post. It 2014 now, so that means the scam has been going on for at least 4 years.

I have the same thing. I replied to a posting on Internships.com. So sad to try to scam students!
Her name is Milner Buttner and she hasn't yet outright asked for all of my contact info. But I know it's coming smh...

From what I've read in similar scams, when you deposit the check, it will bounce and you will owe that amount in your bank account. You will not receive the money at any point, you wont be able to scam the scammer.

One guy I ready, the tracking for his fake check was actually rerouted to law enforcement headquarters. They are cracking down on these scams, don't be fooled!

People beware of people like this! I came across an ad that read: Personal Assistant needed. I responded to the ad and was automatically "hired". The pay ranged from $300-$500 a week and they don't use the same name when scamming people but they are the same thing they tell you they will use the first week to test you then you get your first task they tell you that you will receive a cashiers check by mail and they need you to deduct your week pay then the remaining balance to either buy things for an orphanage or send the money through western union to the orphanage and it will usually be an orphanage over seas one of them was in Malaysia. I kept e-mailing back to get more information but when I asked them for a phone number and their home address for security purposes I never heard back. I wish I could give you more info on this but this was as far as I got. I knew from the first response to my email it was a scam how can you give some one a job and say your are the best person for it when you never submitted a resume or any information about yourself. I hope this will help people and keep them alert of scams!

He has broken English in his written syntax and skirts around all the typical necessary references when asked. I just got a little wrapped up when his check for $3450 showed up today. Same story though, as above...cash the check and Western Union the money to an ORPHANAGE in Manila. Really? An Orphanage...and I actually thought for a minute that that was going to be legit. :)
The "Receivers Information" is VERONICA LOPEZ CEBU, MANILA 4200, PHILIPPINES. I assume she is the ORPHANAGE.
I have reported the emails and email addresses along with a copy of all the email transcripts to IC3http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx . They are connected to the FBI.

arrr, I'm so sad right now. just an hour ago, i was getting ready to do the tootsie role... u see i got this message from the receptionist ad on Craigslist, i sent my resume to. when he mentioned that it was for PA i got excited b/c I've always worked best in the type of work. I also recieved this email today. however he is using the name carey woods now and is suppose to be in Ireland on business. I do have a question to others though. To those who received money orders.. where they legite? did you try to cash them or have them look at by the police, banks, etc? are they foreign? I mean what was the cause for not being able to cash them? did you ever get any assignements from him? I instantly knew this had to be a scam when i received his return email.

I recently recieved the same email however he is now using the name Carey Woods, same detailed email but different name. I recieved it toda and as soon as i read it i knew it was a scam. I do want to ask a question to those who recieved money orders.. are they legite money orders? foreign?manufactured? have you tried to cash them, or had them looked at by the police, or bank? if so then this person can be prosicuted for fraud!

Wow! He is still at it! I just received a letter pretty much the same from David Duncan. I googled Angel Investment Network and found out its def scam. Does anyone know what they get out of doing these fake job ads? I'm not sure what they could do with the info they request. It seems like Craigslist has so much scam going on and they are all out if the country at the moment and send long emails with too much information.

I replied to a job listed on Craiglist (Los Angeles). The position is Executive Personal Assistant. The email I received is almost exactly the same as one shown here.Business name is Angel Network Charities, Inc. Showed a whole bunch of ID numbers as credential. The name of the email is Andy Grubbs.
I have also seen another similar one on Craiglist with first name David -- their job descriptions are almost identical.

I received a similar email. Only the ad on craigslist said that the person I would be working for was a female and that it was for a non-profit organization.
Naturally when I received two (that's right, two) identical emails with the same message under different names mentioning two separate companies from the same response email there was no question in my mind that this was wonky.
I'm glad others are realizing this, too.
Anyone that has received a money order...SHRED IT! They are trying to get your bank information.

Hello I've received the same email and almost immediately became suspicious while reading. Im posting my copy and have submitted to the ic3 complaint center as well. I checked the source info for the email that was sent and it orginated from Africa. The source IP address is 41.155.4.210. I am also submitting a complaint to the abuse dept for this persons ISP. For those of you that have been asking how this scam works. The typical reason of the excessive money order is because it's a fake. If you proceed with it they will typically ask you to go ahead and deposit the check and send part of the overpayment back to them via western union. Then by the time you've already sent them real money you're bank will determine that the check is a fraud and remove the funds from your account. This is how they typically make their money.

I received the same e-mail from JANE LEOPARD. The thing is I received a check for my first weekly duty. The 'check" is worth 4, 500. I e-mailed her informing her that I read how this was a SCAM and wanted nothing to do with it. She e-mailed me back telling me it was legit and that the purpose was of all this was to help the children so to deposit the check! What do I do with it? I'm not going to deposit it. They have enough info as it is. HELP!

I received this email after responding to an ad on craiglist.com, actually most of the ads I responded to were fake! Be very careful when looking for jobs on there, however, I did actually get a REAL job from craigslist out of the 30 or so I applied for. I emailed the guy and told him I knew it was fake, and he responded by calling me a fool and daft. I responded to him "Point proven! If you were really a business professional you would never have responded to me this way! Good luck trying to scam others!"

this is a serious fraud, this person got my information too, and i "got the job" and actually gave me an assignment. i was suppose to start next week but since i was excited i wanted to google him. I'm scared now he has all my personal information. this is the message he sent when i applied and after when i got the job.

As my assistant, your activities amongst other things will include;
* Running personal errands, supervisions and monitoring.
* Scheduling programmes, flights and keeping me up to date with them.
* Acting as an alternative telephone correspondence when I'm away.
* Making regular contacts and drop-offs on my behalf.
* Handling and monitoring some of my financial activities.
