Andersen Windows & Doors casement windows 400 series

I built a new home in 2000. I noticed some discoloration on the inside of my andersen windows. Upon further investigation I found that they had been rotting from the inside probably from the first day they were installed. When I removed the trim board I found nothing but rotted wood that was basically dust. Even though it was obvious that the damage is from the window leaking water inside the frame, andersen windows will not do anything and say that the glass is warrantied for 20years and the rest of the window only ten.
My recommendations would be to avoid this company and buy elsewhere. They do not stand behind any of their products.

I have French doors leading off the back of my home onto a deck. When I built the house I ordered the Andersen doors at a cost of over $3000 because I thought they were the best.
Now they have been on my home for 18yrs. They are wood on the inside and vinyl on the exterior. Sold as maintenance free.
The vinyl clad on the outside of the doors is falling off. I called Andersen and inquired about it. They said they would send me a new door panel at a cost of $1000 each. They want another $2000 from me to fix an obvious flaw in their door and vinyl cladding process.
This company does not stand behind any of their products.
Pathetic, for the price you pay for supposedly the best windows and doors and you end up with junk. You would be better off taking your money elsewhere.

We replaced all of our windows with Anderson 400 series in [protected]. The outside frames (teratone color) are completely faded and have started to have cracks and gaps at the corners. I am disappointed in the quality and look of the windows that I thought would last a lifetime.

Andersen Windows & Doors window

Such a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Brand new house and one of the windows fails. Look out window one day and the sash is hanging off literally. Andersen is called and replacement window is ordered. Installer shows up and comes down and says he cant replace the sash until we removed the plantation shutter. WHAT? You want me to pay for this? Andersen's response was we added a decorative accessory (I cant make this stuff up - he actually said this) and we will not pay to have it removed to put new window in. REALLY! Let me be clear we spent over twenty thousand dollars for new windows not even 5 months it fails and I have to pay to have my decorative accessory removed ( I am still laughing about this like I bought earrings for my window). Andersen would choose to loose a reference and a future repeat customer over $200-$250 (guess) have shutter removed and replaced. BTW called a couple of other window companies and they are saying they would have stepped up to the plate and paid to have this removed and replaced. Great job Andersen

Andersen Windows & Doors emco/andersen series 400 storm door

Bought and had installed on October 20, 2015 a storm door from Home Depot. Paid for installing too. Came out installed, within one month door not closing properly. Called Home Depot 11-20-2015 and they sent installers out to house on 11-30-2015. Installers said wind damage made the door bend at the top and it was bent. They did best they could to make door close but top still doesn't close completely. Called Home Depot as to see what they would do. They said I should report to home owners insurance for wind damage. Called Anderson Windows headquarters [protected]), talked to "Mary" said door not covered for wind damage. The door is only little over one month and its our fault if the wind caught it during note when we're sleeping? Are the latches that flimsy that wind will open? I thought Anderson was a good door, but obviously a very cheaply made door. Will never go back to Home Depot, will never buy another Anderson product.

Andersen Windows & Doors storm door

I purchased an Emmco storm door for my front door. The model number is [protected]. After a few years it looked as if someone had damaged the door. A closer inspection indicated the the shell of the door was defective and the inside of the door was coming out. This was evident on both sides of the door; the outside that was exposed to the elements and also the inside of the door that was not exposed to the elements. The door is very unsightly. I went to Home Depot where I purchased the door. They advised me to contact the company for a credit in order to replace the door. I would appreciate an immediate response to this matter as the door is very unsightly. I have attempted to reach you by phone to no avail. I can't wait in excess of 15 or 20 minutes for someone to answer the phone. Therefore, I would appreciate a prompt response to my request.
My name is Mittie Jackson, 3795 Drury Drive, Macon, GA 31204

Andersen Windows & Doors quality of manufacturing

We built a new house in the fall of 2013. During the winter of 2013 & 2014 we noticed major air infiltration coming from our patio door. Both upstairs and down. Contacted the supplier and they had both sets of door panels replaced. The door panels, due to lack of quality assurance standards were wider in the middle (across the door) than the top and bottom, causing the seal in the middle of the door to have a 1/2" gap, allowing air to blow around the seal between the stationary panel and the glider. The replacements are doing the same thing. They are going to replace them again. But what I didn't know is when the builders' painter finished the first replacements, he didn't get paid by Andersen. Now I am going to be held responsible for having the interiors of the doors stained and finished. It is going to cost me $400 for their screw up. It states in their warranty that painting, staining and installation are excluded in the warranty.

Andersen Windows & Doors not tdi compliant

I purchased 2 of the Anderson Windows and Doors series 200 sliding glass doors with impact resistant glass from Home Depot. . I received them Monday and called the TDI (Texas Department of Insurance) windstorm inspector to set up the installation which they (or a windstorm approved engineer) have to watch to make sure it meets the state windstorm requirements. He informed me that the doors were not approved by TDI, and to install them would void windstorm insurance on the house. I called Anderson WIndows and Doors immediately asking about them. I was told that they did have to get them approved and that I could bring them back to Home Depot. When I called Home Depot, they said no I could not return them. After about 12 to 15 calls to each over 5 days, I did bring the doors back to Home Depot and I was charge a 15% restocking fee.
Anderson has a 90 day satisfaction guarantee hey don't honor, and Home Depot doesn't care that they sell non-compliant doors and windows even when they are in the zone of 60 miles from the coast that requires windstorm approved doors and windows. The store I purchased these doors at was Home Depot # 0526, just 10 miles from the coast line.
Save time, your money, and a whole lot of aggravation by buying anything but Anderson Windows and doors, and shop somewhere else other than Home Depot so you can get the right product and not get stiffed for 15% because they won't offer advice.

Andersen Windows & Doors old and new windows

Ok, had 23 andersen casement windows since 1978. Worked well, no leaks ever, no drafts, for 15 years. Slowly, handles and cranks went one by one, weather seals, one by one. Finally had enough by 2012 with super storm sandy, lost lots of seals and gas. Over all, except for handle usage, i did not have any manufacturing issues. Time for a change. Had old windows removed and new 400 series double hung installed. Not replacement windows. All went well, until all the windows were in. When it was time for the interior finish work, while deciding on new trim, i happened to notice "daylight" oozing from all 4 corners of the windows, top left, right, bottom left right. Where the flange is attached to the wood full frame, manufacturing either ran out of sealant or whatever, or possibly in the course of hurried shoddy workmanship, there was a space where the flange did not meet the wood, and there was the daylight. I shined a flashlight through one night and it showed up big on my neighbors house. If i can see out, then rain and air can get in. What a nightmare. I was told, if the contractor had ran the sticky flashing completely over and around the flashing and tucked into the corners of the flange, this would not have happened. I walked around my sandy devastated neighborhood where there are dozens of home being rebuilt, and most just cover up to and over the flange. I did see 2 homes getting the full flashing treatment. Someone else knows the right way to do flashing.
.

Even so, why is andersen shipping out windows with these defects in workmanship. Now they open and close beautifully, open for cleaning beautifully. I'm scared witless, worrying about all i am reading about the ice build up. Any suggestions? Because the contractor is a relative, and everything else was done very well, i decided to keep the peace and caulk up those spaces myself. Especially as contractor tried to talk me out of getting andersen. God i pray i don't have the trouble experienced by my follow complainers above. Still, i'm asking what to look for, just in case. Winter is 6 months away and maybe there is time to get on top of this possible ice problem. Thanks for any information anyone can share.

Andersen Windows & Doors defective windows in warranty

We have lots of failing 9 year old Andersen double hung windows. Likely 200 series. In warranty.

Many are showing signs of dark discoloration along the bottom rail of the lower sash. Some may be soft to the touch or showing early signs of rot. The Andersen rep measured moisture content of the wood trapped behind the cladding as high as 90%. We all know what happens next.

The response from the Andersen territory rep was that as of now, they don;t intend to cover these sashes under the warranty. The excuse seemed hardly applicable, like a few might have been installed a little out of square, but that seems more like a standard response than what we have here, as somewhere around 20-25 sashes are showing water absorption.

I saw in an earlier blog that someone named Wendy from Andersen Corporate had reached out to a poster and was curious if any help was ever received.

Tips appreciated.

We were recently told by an Anderson Rep that 28 out of our 32 windows were defective. Unfortunately, this company will not extend their warranty. Even though their windows are defective. Now I've got a house full of defective windows - some of which are failing and all the company is willing to do if give us 50% off the price of replacement windows. This just doesn't seem right to me.

Andersen Windows & Doors andersen windows poor quality hardware

HI there folks
Please be aware when buying anderson windows, the hardware is not corrosion Prof, we purchase 18 windows, 4 Sliding glass doors, 2 swing doors. At the time of purchase we upgraded the handles on the sliding glass doors to antique brass instead of composite, handles looked great for first six months after that it all went down hill, one of the doors showed signs of corrosion so we called andersen windows and shared the problem and the representative told us that it would be covered under warranty, so they sent us one new handle for one sliding glass door, three months latter we notice that all handles were corroding on the exterior of the doors, including the handles and hinges of the 2 swing doors, amazingly low quality finish for upgraded handles.
Again I called them and explained the problem and I was told to send pics of the hardware, they return my call couple days later telling me that the hardware was not covered under warranty for corrosion, are you kidding me, less than a year and they are corroded, we live a couple miles from the ocean at 800 feet elevation, this is so frustrating I will definitely not use anderson windows for my cottage.
All I ask is how can you make an exterior handle that does not have a corrosion prof finish, even the $30 home depot handle that i have in my shed for 4 years is not rusting huge disappointment. PLEASE NOTE ON PICTURES THAT HINGES ARE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR JAMB NOT EXPOSED TO WEATHER IMAGINE WHAT THE HANDLES LOOK LIKE.

Andersen Windows & Doors - Rotting wood in the windows

I spent a small fortune in 2000 with Andersen Windows on a new home built the same year. I just found [1/13/13] that 10 of the double hung windows in the home had rot on the inside wood-not the outside-all in the lower left corner of the lower sash. I contacted Andersen today to find out that the windows were manufactured in 1999 and therefore their...

Andersen Windows & Doors warranty

10 years ago I built a custom home with 75 Andersen windows. 26 of them contained removable grilles for easy cleaning. The grilles have snapped repeatedly over the years. Most of the time I have repaired them; however sometimes I need them replaced. Andersen replaced the grilles on demand for the warranty period but made no improvements to the grilles for that 10 yr period. I am now nearly out of warranty time, and despite the replaced grilles being newer than the original window 10 yr warranty, they will no longer replace them and want me to buy them. Maintenance cost (and time!) should be a consideration when purchasing these already pricey windows.

Andersen Windows & Doors quality

I built a new home in Illinois in 1985. We installed Andersen casement windows in the entire house. These were tripple pane glass with the terratone vinyl cladding. With in a few years, most of the tripple pane glass were full of moisture. Andersen did replace all the bad window panels with their new high performance glass panels. The replacement was free, but the damage to the interior wood trim around the windows had to be repaired/replaced by me, the home owner. Not cheap! I complained to Andersen about this and nothing was done. The HP windows seemed fine, for awhile. The glass began to suck in. My windows looked like the old circus mirrors. Some even filled up with moisture again. Andersen agreed to replace or repair the glass panels. They had their repairmen remove the windows so they could drill a hole in between the glass. This would allow air to enter the space between the glass and the glass was to relax to it's flat, natural position. This worked, but what about the argon that made these windows high performance? The argon is gone! These widows are now just double pane glass. I really got my money's worth. The wood window trim is damaged again, also from removing the stationary panels. My windows are just about to expire their warrenty. The Andersen repairmen were here just yesterday, drilling more vent holes in glass panels that have already been drilled and vented. Apparently the venting fix is short termed. He did agree to replace two panels, labor not included. I have had several other issues with Andersen Windows. The vinyl cladding on the window frames where the sun shines on them, has all come loose and has been repaired by drilling and injecting glue. The cladding has become brittle and cracks, allowing water to get behind it. The casement panels are individual sections that are fasted together to make one window. Andersen uses a plastic "T" strip that inserts between these panels to keep the weather out. The sun/weather causes the plastic T strip to expand and work out of the window gap. This leaves a crack for rain to enter. The bed room window, located on the west side of our home, had this happen. We didn't see it had come out at the top of the window. Everytime it rained, water was channeled down between the glass panels and it rotted ot the wood framing under the window, all the way to the sill plate. This repair cost $3600.00. I would never buy Andersen windows again. They have been good, to a point, about repairing their windows, but they should have just replaced the bad windows to start with, not just have made bandaid repairs that won't last. Andersen needs to do more homework on their window designs.

Andersen Windows & Doors defective storm door

Purchased storm door made by Anderson subsidiary, I believe in Iowa.

Door blistered by handle and turned out to be apparent lead or aluminum blistering all around handle, in less than one year. Unsightly.

Anderson referrred me to the subsidiary in Iowa called EMCO ENTERPRISES. I called them. They did absolutely nothing. They completely failed to honor their warranty which is supposed to last for the lifetime of the owner.

P.S. I'm still alive, but they didn't honor it. Breach of warranty.

I purchased this door at Home Depot...they refer you to Anderson who does nothing but refers you to EMCO Enterprises, who also do nothing to honor the warranty..

Frankly, this storm door is a complete piece of junk and is an embarassment to have on your front entrance.

Anderson and Emco's dismissive attitude toward their warranty is a breach of warranty and a disgrace.

They count on your not suiing them. I may do so nevertheless, I am so incensed.

TO THE PUBLIC: LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE.

AVOID ANDERSON AND ANY SUBSIDIARIES, SUCH AS EMCO ENTERPRISES DOORS, SOLD AS "EMCO" AT HOME DEPOT. IN YOUR PURCHASES, unless you want to be treated this way.

Andersen Windows & Doors received in two packages at time of new construction did not open until this spring supplier will not replace free of charge

Last year we ordered an entire new house windows from the supplier that we purchased the entire wood, etc. that it takes to build a new house. When we received the windows the roof wasn't even on yet, our contractor counted the screens but did not take them out of the two shipping boxes. When we opened the boxes recently due to the warm weather we found four of the large screens damaged. They were packaged on the inside of others, that were not damage therefore it was easy to tell these screens had been packaged damaged not damaged after we opened them.

We were really disappointed after notifying the supplier, Brookside Lumber, that they refused to supply new undamaged screens instead they said they would repair the screens at a cost to us. This was unacceptable to me as the person who will have to clean the windows and screens. I just taped the screens and installed them, it looks so stupid in the window but I truly hope people will ask me why they are taped so others will here the story.

What I think would be the only fair, professional, ethic answere would for the company to have contacted the Andersen rep and request these 4 screens to be replaced. They are large windows so to have someone else repair them it will be a cost to us.

Andersen Windows & Doors poor customer service and poor quality

I am totally unhappy about how I was being treated regarding my recent warranty service order from Andersen Windows. Andersen Windows DO NOT Honor their warranty, they DO NOT Back Up their defected products, which were leaking like crazy. Rain water was leaking through those Andersen Fenchwood sliding door panels, water run on the floor, go over 5 feet into the house. Andersen Windows DO NOT Care about their customers. It made me realized, all of those complaints that I read, being posted on the internet about Andersen Windows, all those horror stories from their victims, are True.

I was totally mistreated by their sub-contractor DSI Window Wizards in Martinez. I was singled out to have to pay $100 delivery charge for those replacement door panels, which normally would be FREE of charge for delivery to others. They said because they have to walk across the lawn and the driveway was too long. For what was the Real reason they singled me out for the fees, I do not really know. Maybe they just simply do not like me.

I was at the mercy of their sub-contractor, DSI Window Wizards in Martinez, for whatever they demanded of me. Andersen Windows said they do not charge delivery fees for replacement products under warranty, but their sub-contractor can charge us whatever they want. And we have no other choice but to have to go with this one sub-contractor that they appointed to us. It was totally a Rip-Off that Andersen Windows have force their customers into.

Andersen Windows are not being Fair, not being Ethical, to let their sub-contractor to abuse certain of their customers that they simply do not like.

if you had gone with renewal by anderson they would have came out personally to see the problem and taken care of it for free. its a shame people dont know that anderson windows has their own division of contractors. if i can give any advice call renewal by anderson because they know how to install windows and doors properly vs most of the home depot or pvt. contractors who mostly install roofs or siding or toilets and maybe 3 or 4 windows or doors a year.

Andersen seems to be run like most insurance companies. The policy is to deny, deny, deny and hope you give in. We had patio door issues with a brand new Andersen door. Our installer had us call Andersen, so we called and were told the Andersen rep would call us back. But after repeated calls to Andersen, they never did. Each time we called we had to go through their bogus "troubleshooting" process, which is basically a customer service rep reading out of a binder. On the first two calls, they said it was probably a problem with the door but on the third call, giving the same answers to the questions, the rep said that it was a faulty install. To have a rep come out they would need our credit card but "not to worry", they wouldn't charge us $151 if the door was defective. So we called Home Depot, who called Andersen. Home Depot said that to have an Andersen rep come out it would cost $187. Wow. I need to stop calling people for help! Every time I pick up the phone the price goes up! Plus, after dealing with customer service that there is any way the rep will be objective. So I'd up paying another $200 for them to blame the installer. I think the next time I even THINK about buying an Andersen product, I'll tell the store to bring it over, install it and if it turns out NOT to be defective, I'll pay for it. Andersen's warranty is worthless. I need 22 windows for my house. If Andersen won't stand behind their products, I'll find a local company who will.

Andersen Windows & Doors revise prior complaint submission

I wish to revise my submission of earlier today. After Emailing CEO of Andersen Windows, Mr. James Humphrey, I received a telephone call from Mr. Craig Hanson on Mr. Humphrey's behalf. Mr. Hanson researched my order prior to calling, as well he had listened to the audio recording of my earlier telephone call with Andersen Customer Service Rep, Dave. Mr. Hanson assured me that my issues will be resolved and he will see to it. Two of the three items were shipped to me today, and the final item will be shipped out as soon as possible. He will follow up the order personally. I cannot ask for more, and though initially annoyed with Andersen Windows, I now offer appreciation for the company's effort to make it right.

In March I ordered 5 A series windows from Anderson to complete the restorations and upgrades to this early 1900's house. When May rolled around and I had removed 3 of the old windows covering them with plywood anticipating their arrival, I was informed that the order had been re-written not once but 3 times and that each time my order was placed at the bottom of the factory order list. When the windows finally arrived, the color we chose was incorrect the quantities were wrong and one size obviously was for someone else's order. Once more the order was placed and again a tedious wait for the windows to arrive. This time the 4 windows arrived correct size and correct color it is now July hot, steamy and buggy just what I tried to avoid ordering them early. The large picture window was to be delivered later. When it arrived, the attachment fin (nailing fin) was not made to accommodate the exterior trim which snaps on. Likewise the Prairie grill work on the window was missing. A call to the factory person Jamie informed me that the area tech would be out to install the grill work. I asked to have the attachment strips drop shipped so I could continue applying the clapboards. No the rep will have them and install them. It is now the 22nd of August and still not a word from the area tech. I was told he would be here no the 22nd to complete the missing parts, but now I am told he will call which has not happened. I have no recourse but to write the CEO since customer service is a disaster. It is a shame since the windows that did arrive look great, expensive but great looking.
