Andersen Windows & Doors - old and new windows

Ok, had 23 andersen casement windows since 1978. Worked well, no leaks ever, no drafts, for 15 years. Slowly, handles and cranks went one by one, weather seals, one by one. Finally had enough by 2012 with super storm sandy, lost lots of seals and gas. Over all, except for handle usage, i did not have any manufacturing issues. Time for a change. Had old windows removed and new 400 series double hung installed. Not replacement windows. All went well, until all the windows were in. When it was time for the interior finish work, while deciding on new trim, i happened to notice "daylight" oozing from all 4 corners of the windows, top left, right, bottom left right. Where the flange is attached to the wood full frame, manufacturing either ran out of sealant or whatever, or possibly in the course of hurried shoddy workmanship, there was a space where the flange did not meet the wood, and there was the daylight. I shined a flashlight through one night and it showed up big on my neighbors house. If i can see out, then rain and air can get in. What a nightmare. I was told, if the contractor had ran the sticky flashing completely over and around the flashing and tucked into the corners of the flange, this would not have happened. I walked around my sandy devastated neighborhood where there are dozens of home being rebuilt, and most just cover up to and over the flange. I did see 2 homes getting the full flashing treatment. Someone else knows the right way to do flashing.
.

Even so, why is andersen shipping out windows with these defects in workmanship. Now they open and close beautifully, open for cleaning beautifully. I'm scared witless, worrying about all i am reading about the ice build up. Any suggestions? Because the contractor is a relative, and everything else was done very well, i decided to keep the peace and caulk up those spaces myself. Especially as contractor tried to talk me out of getting andersen. God i pray i don't have the trouble experienced by my follow complainers above. Still, i'm asking what to look for, just in case. Winter is 6 months away and maybe there is time to get on top of this possible ice problem. Thanks for any information anyone can share.

Andersen Windows & Doors - poor customer service and poor quality

I am totally unhappy about how I was being treated regarding my recent warranty service order from Andersen Windows. Andersen Windows DO NOT Honor their warranty, they DO NOT Back Up their defected products, which were leaking like crazy. Rain water was leaking through those Andersen Fenchwood sliding door panels, water run on the floor, go over 5 feet into the house. Andersen Windows DO NOT Care about their customers. It made me realized, all of those complaints that I read, being posted on the internet about Andersen Windows, all those horror stories from their victims, are True.

I was totally mistreated by their sub-contractor DSI Window Wizards in Martinez. I was singled out to have to pay $100 delivery charge for those replacement door panels, which normally would be FREE of charge for delivery to others. They said because they have to walk across the lawn and the driveway was too long. For what was the Real reason they singled me out for the fees, I do not really know. Maybe they just simply do not like me.

I was at the mercy of their sub-contractor, DSI Window Wizards in Martinez, for whatever they demanded of me. Andersen Windows said they do not charge delivery fees for replacement products under warranty, but their sub-contractor can charge us whatever they want. And we have no other choice but to have to go with this one sub-contractor that they appointed to us. It was totally a Rip-Off that Andersen Windows have force their customers into.

Andersen Windows are not being Fair, not being Ethical, to let their sub-contractor to abuse certain of their customers that they simply do not like.

if you had gone with renewal by anderson they would have came out personally to see the problem and taken care of it for free. its a shame people dont know that anderson windows has their own division of contractors. if i can give any advice call renewal by anderson because they know how to install windows and doors properly vs most of the home depot or pvt. contractors who mostly install roofs or siding or toilets and maybe 3 or 4 windows or doors a year.

Andersen seems to be run like most insurance companies. The policy is to deny, deny, deny and hope you give in. We had patio door issues with a brand new Andersen door. Our installer had us call Andersen, so we called and were told the Andersen rep would call us back. But after repeated calls to Andersen, they never did. Each time we called we had to go through their bogus "troubleshooting" process, which is basically a customer service rep reading out of a binder. On the first two calls, they said it was probably a problem with the door but on the third call, giving the same answers to the questions, the rep said that it was a faulty install. To have a rep come out they would need our credit card but "not to worry", they wouldn't charge us $151 if the door was defective. So we called Home Depot, who called Andersen. Home Depot said that to have an Andersen rep come out it would cost $187. Wow. I need to stop calling people for help! Every time I pick up the phone the price goes up! Plus, after dealing with customer service that there is any way the rep will be objective. So I'd up paying another $200 for them to blame the installer. I think the next time I even THINK about buying an Andersen product, I'll tell the store to bring it over, install it and if it turns out NOT to be defective, I'll pay for it. Andersen's warranty is worthless. I need 22 windows for my house. If Andersen won't stand behind their products, I'll find a local company who will.
