American Income Life Insurance - this co. should be investigated

The reason AIL scores high as a good co. to work for is that the rating is created by the amount of advertisement it buys. If you choose to ignore complaints made her, go to [redacted].com and find a whole bunch more. It pisses me off that people try to defend this scam. The people that actually believe they are working for a good company will look back...

American Income Life Insurance no scam

American Income Life is not a scam. Let's see - they are rated as the number 37 top job out of 100 in Hot Jobs.com, they have been in business over 60 years, they belong to Torchmark a S&P500 company listed on the NY stock exchange, they have over 2, 000, 000 clients throughout the world. So where is the scam? They offer a career in insurance sales, provide the leads, no cold calls or door knocking, and pay weekly. Yes I am an agent for American Income, and have been since last July 2009. Yes I read all the "scam" posts and went to see for myself. I saw a legitimate company that offers a career opportunity to those willing to work hard. I see very successful people in the company that are happy with their jobs. I visited the Waco American Income office, and the Torchmark office in McKinny and was impressed with both the facilities and the people. This opportunity can work for someone just out of college or someone like me who had to un-retire and return to the work force at 60. By the way I have an engineering degreee and an MBA. I would surmise that those posting "scam" issues are those that have failed at the hard work issue and want someone else to blame for their failures.

does it make sense for a man to eat soup with a fork? the answer is no.

I'm not sure, but I think this all started happening recently when Torchmark bought up some companies. Check out Bankers Life. They are under the same umbrella. I interviewed for both the same week as soon as my resume' went up. Same freakin premise, different demographics. There are other sites like Pissed Consumer. I found out there they are owned by Torchmark as is AIL. I didn't make the final cut at Banker's as I we were supposed to get a call on a Fri between 430-500. I sent a reply on Monday thanking them, as I thought it was professional, and the following Tues I got an email sayin I was wanted for a final interview and I was the one he really wanted. It's no wonder why they can say they've been hiring the last few years. What they don't mention is the turnover. Need a job? You're hired! Like the song Dirty Boulevard says, "Give us your hungry, your tired, your poor, and I'll piss on them...

I am not speaking from experience working for them. Make your own judgements.

A complete scam. My son did it for 4 months and did make money. His best week was about $1800, worst week about $O... He did it long enough to be successful because he's never quit at anything, but he couldn't get used to the low life methods he was supposed to use to get people to buy, so he walked away on his terms. He took this job right out of collage. I encouraged him to take it and now I feel partially responsible for putting him through it. I wish I would have done more homework on AIL before giving him my advice.

I believe the scam part mainly applies to the misrepresentations that the company makes to its potential employees. I was just called and asked to come in for an interview later this week. They told me flat out that I was being considered for a management position. Judging by what I have read in other posting, no such positions exist for people they are calling in from career builder and monster. Everyone they bring in is simply being recruited for sales. I plan on going in to see for myself, but if the position they are interviewing me for turns out to simply be a sales job that is fully commission based I will give them a piece of my mind.

What Im curious about is this.. what part of AIL is a scam? Is it the licensing fee that you pay the school so that you can take the course and get licensed? What makes AIL a scam while comparing them to World Financial Group, Primamerica, Sunlife, Manulife or even the vehicle insurence broker from down town.

Cause from what I've read so far it sounds more like a disgruntled person just flapping their gum's to anyone who will listen.

If you have proof its a scam I would appreciate not only hearing but seeing the proof that this company is a scam. I also beg to ask the question that because of how regulated the insurance industry is, how is it they are able to run and operate in Canada let alone the United States.

Thank you.

Just because a company is top 33 and been around since 1924 doesn't mean it can't have unethical practices. Some can play the game.

I have been living in the home of an AIL sales agent. This person is broke. This is why I'm helping with rent. This person is totally brain washed. This person also makes dozens of phone calls to union families and then blitzes them with a spiel that amazes even me. Also, this person lives for in the home appointment calls.

The manager comes over and the group follows. The manager and the group get drunk, The next day, manager talks techniques on how to close on the phone by removing all the objections a union family member would have by using the death scare.

Let me tell you all: I have been in sales for 30 years. I sold a solid product, not some invisible insurance coverage. THIS IS A SCAM!

All of their advertising is about how good they are at offering many jobs. That's a No Brainer there! Whatever the f%#* a BBA is, he is lying to defend his brain washing company and to keep disillusioned sales employees doing the spiel!

Now I'm on to do a search, like I did "American Income Life COMPLAINTS" on "Torchmark COMPLAINTS" . In closing, I have been in Dallas, and McKinney too. Texans in business are tax-dodging scammers, and this umbrella company is another crap-filled example!

American Income Life Insurance very scetchy

I was also recruited to come in for a position as a Manager and Training supervisor. As I had recently been laid off from a dedicated job so that the managers there could get their Christmas bonus [yes, they even told me that] I was interested.

I have tried at least 5 calls to get more information regarding pay and other specifics with no success. You see, I was driving and had to pull over just to write the time and address. Now, after researching various sites that warn us all about these places, I feel like I was scammed. Fortunately, I have not put out any money nor additional time to follow their pipe dream.

Let me advise you that when the "supportive" comments are written, they always have spelling errors, and various other forms of inconsistency. This is generally done by people who only work for a company for that purpose: to offset the negative comments. Usually, the comments supporting this company (like other such comments) are ranting and confrontational. This should tip off the intelligent people to "consider the source".

God bless you all and good luck in your endeavors.

I've been following the posts as well and Paul lund is not a jerk, "paul lund is a major tool" and a lot of those names that Paul also stated continually E-heckle him. If you haven't been following the posts on here then yes, the aforementioned comment that Paul Lund has said does seem harsh. But it is in context and a fair assessment considering the guy who posted after his first comments name is Paul lund is a tool, in which he calls him a tool. While Paul has said nothing that was derogatory or contradictory or even belittling of the original poster.

EdwH - I can only ask, why do you feel like you were scammed? because you had to pull over to write the address and time? or because they wouldn't give you the specifics on the pay and other specifics? Some people who call you do not know the specifics their job may only be to call you in for an interview [though it's not the case for all people calling you] in which the second interview is a face-to-face then the third is where they go over many areas of the company [including pay].

Which in my honest opinion doesn't fall under the catagory of "scam". They didn't ask you for money just to be invited to the interview, you weren't lied to about the location of the meeting and I don't think that they intentionally meant to pull you over to commit any wrong doings (i.e siphon your gas or steal your car). I would say more along the lines of 'un-informative' or 'un-helpful'. But scamming I think is a bit much in this case.

Major Tool, do you really think that people can't tell that you're the same person posting under multiple screen names fail/fail01/fail02/fail03/fail04/mjd101010/major tool? It's simply pathetic. American Income Life Insurance selling member's list

PR reps for American Income life are responsible for going out and get new customers for there company example VFW, American Legions. Unions, clubs and Associations just for a few. When the PR signs a new company they ask for the member's rooster with names and address where they can mail there member's info on there new insurance. The PR is responsible for addressing most of the new clinets but they can also send the info on to Texas for there home office to do it.But all member list go's though the PR reps hands first.Which allows them to sell the member's info out to another company (third party) for money that go's right into there own pocket. With nobody knowing. Please be careful don't let your member's list get out .

American income does not sell the members list.
On top of being unethical it is very illegal for them to "resale" a members list.

But more importantly, American Income being an insurance company, why in the world would they want to sell their new clientele for money? they'll make way more money off the premiums than they would ever off of the resale, even if it was legal.

Bear154, One you post your resume on Monster, Craigslist, Hotjobs, etc... It then gets funneled to many companies, that's why it's there. No one purchased your resume from anywhere.

I know your main point is not that they didn't call after you didn't show up for the interview. But i'm going to go out on a limb and say that the reason why you were contacted from someone from an out of state number is because they probably called you from a cell phone. I call most people from my cell phone because I have it with me and I don't have to wait until I can get to the office. I am not trying to debate with you on the process that you went through, because everyone does it a little differently. The way that your situation was handled by them could have been handled much better. If someone calls me and leaves a message they will 100% of the time get a call back, (unless it's a telemarketing call). If you left a message when you called, it was definitely in their error. If you did not though, because we (or at least I) get many phone calls a day, anywhere between 20-30 from unrecognized number, I only return the calls that I see more than once, or even more, who leave a message. Again, I'm not saying you did anything wrong, I'm just saying that not everything is just black and white.

Mike, it's not the main point that they didn't call me after the interview was supposed to happen, it was the fact that no one answered or even bothered to call me back prior to the interview. and where i had made an attempt to contact them before hand, you would think there would be a follow up to try and clear the air. what if directions where wrong, or something came up? i consider myself a great candidate. i am well rounded in many different areas of business, sales and management. reading into false-hoods is one skill that has been well developed. i did later on drive by the building they said they had moved into the next town over, even though the number given to me for the "local" office was an out of state area code. it was rather sketchy looking.

and to help you with your defensive "sch-peel" mike, i never contacted them at all. they did however, contact me with "great interest". which in turn means they bought my information on-line to even know what my resume looks like. so, in turn, i don't need them.

That's unfortunate that you didn't go.

Though I not too many companies will give a call back and ask why one doesn't show. Though for the very few, some may have a good reason, most of them are just silly excuses. In addition, most companies will say, 'well if they couldn't show up for their first interview, guess it's best if we don't call them back' . That's because if you're late, or absent for your first interview, it gives a bad first impression of one. Especially when it comes to hiring because they only know you from resume.

I can see them calling you back if you were the only candidate or one of the top 5 or so, but coming in for just a first interview, I wouldn't bat an eye.

On a personal note, I would never call someone back who doesn't show up for their first interview. I am the one offering a job, they are the ones looking. I am not trying to convince someone that I (emphasized) need them. I have a job, i'm simply offering them an opportunity to have one as well but if they don't show up, for whatever reasons, there are 20 other people that will and they will be the ones that potentially get the job.

I ended up not going to the interview. The more I looked up information the more I was seeing negatives and less positives. I tried to call the number that was given to me to discuss canceling, but there was no answer even though I was told i could reach then at anytime with questions. I still have not heard any reply or a call back to find out why I did not show.

I guess that goes to show you how much they were "truly interested" in having me work for them.

Seems to me that the people defending AIL also need to go back to school to re-learn how to spell and proper grammar. I was just called an offered an interview this morning from a local AIL office that just opened in my area. The secretary explained that she found my resume on Monster.com. BUT, where she felt the need to exploit the major accomplishments over the phone instead of saving it for the interviewer, makes me wonder. I have read and do see more negative posts about the company than I do positive ones. I do follow the stock market, and in my research in just the past half hour, have yet to discover anything pertaining to this company. The websites that come up in searches are very plain for such a "successful" company. I feel there may be a reason they do not deal with the general public. I will show up for this interview tomorrow holding a list of in-depth questions in hand.

AILWIFE:

Ok, now I have to say something. I'm going to do my best because clearly you're a ### and won't understand most of what I'm saying. Warren Buffet buys and sells stocks. He actually didn't "buy" AIL stock as that doesn't exist. Again, you're a ### so this may be news to you. What he did was buy stock in AIL's parent company, Torchmark. He bought this stock as he believes that the stock will make him money. This does not in anyway endorse American Income as a good place to work. Now since they told you at AIL Warren Buffet bought stock in Torchmark what does that have to do with your "husband" working there? I'm being rhetoricall here (look that word up in a dictionary) as the obvious answer is that it has nothing to do with it at all.
So how bout you do some of your own research before you come on here defending your "husband's" company and make a complete ### of yourself.

All the best.

American Income Life Insurance lied to by 5+ service reps

Recently I tried to claim on my insurance policy with AIL and had some problems, I was going to cancel my policy after finding some unethical loopholes but it seemed every staff member I talked to was willing to say whatever I wanted to hear so I didn't cancel the policy.

I had called around to ensure my claim was valid and of all the numbers I tried from canada and the US and all the people I talked to from varying levels of management I was told I *should* be able to claim no problem.

Some even offered personal stories from others who had claimed for the same thing.

However, after doing all the running around (getting forms to doctors etc.) I was told my claim was not valid and that everyone I talked to should have told me so. Silly me for believing the lies - I hope this warning can help others not to make my same mistake!

I agree that everyone has the right to post their opinions and experiences. But everyone also has the right to know the situation from both sides so they can best make an educated decision.
I worked in healthcare for 10 years, you want a scam? Go do that for a while. Since i have come to american income i have been a member of a solid supporting fun team. I have had the opportunity to travel and have gone to confereneces where i stayed in a 5 star hotel at no cost to me. I have also made for myself a very comfortable income, and i am only in my first year. I have recently been promoted.
No matter where you go any company will have its pros and cons. At the same time you really need to know yourself and what you are capable of. I can almost gaurantee that most of the complaints on here are by people who saw the opportunity to make a lot of money and when they didn't they got angry and have to point the finger at someone. They can't see in themselves why they were unable to be successful. I do feel for the people that genuinly may have had a negative experience, but please know that isn't the case right across the board. Don't let your experience hold someone else back from having a great experience.
This business is about accountability, responsibility, goals, and
Hard work. You don't make big money by pumping gas do you? Of course not, it is a very easy job. Nothing great ever comes easy. So for those of you who expected a a get rich quick scheme, maybe you should research those work from home jobs, sounds about the pace that you require.
I was ready to work hard. I know what my goals are. And i made it what i wanted to make it, and i have succeeded.
So before you judge, based on this website, please do your own research, attand your own interview.

In response to the original "complaint"-- people are expecting to make a lot of money because in the company's sales pitch (yes, that is what it is) to candidates are told that they will be making so much per year, so much per month, etc. Thus, it is a reasonable expectation to make what you are told you will be making.

I was called by a person for an interview at this company and went in, just to see what it was about. I fell for Vector Marketing years and years ago when I was in college, so I knew what to look out for. One of the questions on the sheet I was asked to fill out was something about what do I look to avoid in a company. Once I got past the poor grammar of the question, alarm bells went off in my mind. Not a good start, but eh, I waited and sat through the presentation. I've been on group interviews before, and while annoying, they can be necessary if there are a lot of jobs to be filled.

The "interview" was more of a sales pitch about how much I could make if I was just willing to work hard. Then, there was that little bit about being paid "an advance". That was only mentioned briefly before a much, much longer bit about residuals. More red flags. Then, there was a small comment about how the product wasn't knives or makeup. I worked for Vector once, and while I did make money at it (I was the only one who really did) I wasn't about to spend all of my time working for free. Spending hours and hours calling people, driving to their homes, etc. IS working for free. I'm sure I look like the ideal candidate for them-- I own my own business that I've been successful at, I put all the right answers on their questionnaire, etc. but I'd rather deal with a few more lean months and wait for a job that will actually pay me for my time comes around.

Do the math. Figure out what your hourly pay is. I bet it's less than minimum wage.

Dude, you are missing the point. Even if there were only 17 pages (not so, especially if you count scam.com, /link removed/ etc) the point he is trying to make is that the overwhelming majority of people have some sort of negative experience with AIL. And the majority of those bad experiences you have chosen, for one reason or another, to not address them. And it really doesn't matter, you're happy where you are and that's fine. One day you will see the light or you won't. Either way coming on here defending AIL actually makes you desperate at this point.

KenAdams- I believe I just posted to one of your earlier posts, but a troll does not mean making posts. A troll is a person who comes on to a forum just to cause problems by saying negative things or personally attacking people just to get a rise out of them.

"AIL doesn't have "about 200 or so pages on this website alone" You might want to do a recount again because there are 17.(at least from the day of this post)
And some of those are not even complaints, some of them are people sticking up for AIL so there are 17 posts, not eve 17 complaints.

I haven't ignored any complaints or any points, whether they be valid or not... Read all my posts again i'm sure you may have missed something. If i have, please point it out i will make sure it gets addressed the next time i am on here.

this is not the only response that I have posted to because I've posted so many (and usually i post a bunch at the same time) so I tend to miss some points.

And honestly I dont ready EVERY single post from every single person, I skim read and if something seems to catch my eye, i then read the post.

Again, if i've missed a complaint, or a point or even a responder, please tell me i'll respond back, I have no shame in what I do. I love what I do and there are many people who feel the same. There are also people who do not feel the same at all.

If you have any questions or concerns about AIL please call me or email me at

"Haha I don't have any comment other than, please don't just troll around. It makes you look fat."

Umm...you're the one that is on every single post on this website. So If that makes him look fat, you much be EFFIN HUGE!
And doesn't the fact that there are about 200 or so pages on this website alone dedicated to AIL give you some concern as to where it is you work?

And way to ignore your above colleague and her complete lack of representation for her company. I like how you pick and choose which points to argue, but when someone makes a valid point about AIL's failings, you stay quiet. Or where the above clearly represents you and your company in a bad light, you stay silent there as well. I would think your time would be better spend training your agents as opposed to going on here trying to convince AIL is a good company to work for when the only people are here is to express their displeasure to begin with. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but hey, you work for AIL.

I agree with you. They could have presented themselves a lot better, but chose not to for whatever reasons. I am not saying that they didn't have the social capabilities to do so, but may have not wanted to hold themselves back. I don't agree with the bad mouthing of other insurance companies [and if you read all my posts, I have never done so, even when posting on Primerica complaints and such].

American Income Life Insurance no a complaint just to warn people about them

August 13, 2009. Something is not ligit about American Income Life. I just receive a email from them. They started by addressing me as:

Attention Career Seeker,

Recently, we received your application / resume from one of the Job Boards that our company works. It went on to state that it had a job opening and urged me to call immediately to schedule an interview with Regional Manager, Anderson Sooknanan nad provided the name of Marsha Diaz, Ext 227, who is suppose to be the Asst. Dir of HR.

I contacted her and kindly informed her not to send me any randam email, because, had I indeed responded to one of their advertisement, I would have had to provide at least my name and telephone number. Something they did not have. Surprise, Surprise, she hung up on me.

NO LIGITIMATE COMPANY WOULD DO THAT. As I stated, I was not rude or anthying.

Angelle - I apologize that AIL has called you back several times, have you called back at all and let them know that you are not interested? I'm sure that'd stop them from calling. If you haven't, I'd try that, for courtesy to them, but also to have them stop hassling you, it's a win-win.

Before I started with AIL I didn't have a whole slew of careers under my belt, especially not 16+ years. But for most people who get let go in a position or positions that were held for so long, most people (especially now) are having a hard time finding a job in their listed field. I have talked to people that have been doing the same thing for 15-20 years (I.e Construction) and though that is what they have been good at and that is what their resume lists, that doesn't mean that people are hiring in that field or if that field is one's calling.

I have not seen your resume personally, but I can say that if you've been in a field 16 years, you will definitely have talent, that's a given. But what employers also look at is "is this person going to be easy to deal with (or train) or are they going to have so many bad habits or "so much experience" that they cannot be taught anything, because they know it all. I am not saying that is you, but as someone who employs people, that's one big factor i look at when someone is sitting a crossed the table from me...

It may be your calling to stick in to you field, but how many people in your field can say "that is my calling, through thick or thin i'm going to stay in this". Probably not many...

I do hope they have ceased calling you though since it has been 42 days since you posted this, but I also hope that you have at least given them a phone call.

If there is anyone here who is on the fences about AIL and wants to know some information, I work for the Company and I have for a while

I am available to answer any questions that you may have and any concerns that may be on your mind.

you can reach me at

AIL has been calling me and leaving me messages "regarding my resume", also. Yes, I do have a resume posted online. It also says specifically on that resume that I do not want to be contacted for postions outside of the scope of work indicated by my 16+ yrs of professional experience - which is definitely NOT in the insurance business. They are not doing anything "illegal" by doing so - but they are very obviously violating my stated wishes on that posted resume. I wonder if they really think that randomly contacting everyone who posts a resume online, regardless of that person's background, will convince career professionals to suddenly ditch their calling and become insurance agents. :p Not likely.

Stevedossett - you have no idea what you're talking about. I don't work in Virginia, I've never even been in Virginia longer than a 10 minute drive. If you're going to try to discredit me, figure out what you're talking about.
Rob hay is not my mentor, I know Rob, but not on a professional level (since he lives in Washington state now, which is where i lived when I first started).
Nor do I claim or have even made mention that 'i'm a hot shot producer' I am a part time producer, since I am running my agency of 6 and an office of 18. You may have seen RGA's write agents checks you may have seen people do a lot of things. But your word is just about as valuable as my words... You have no way to really back up what you're saying. All of what you said is exactly the same thing that you are flaming me for.

What 'reputable investment firms pay for training'?
what reputable investment firms have agents that stay longer than six months? (which is every single one, since mine does as well not EVERY person will stay in any agency in any company but above the norm is what i'mn talking about.
How exactly do we 'lie' to our clients to get in the door?
Who was writing these checks to which agents to keep what quiet?
what exactly did Rick and Rob lie about?

Explain that to me because i've at least had reasoning (even mostly personal experience / reasoning) to back up what i'm saying. you're just talking out of the side of your neck.

I hope you have a wonderful day

If you choose to contact me my information is on my name or

I don't mind, in fact, I enjoy when people post something of content in their complaints, or compliments. You didn't really post any kind of complaint, it sounds to me like you're just trolling.

Back up what you said with solid information, or proof. Then i'll take you more seriously, but until then, please keep quiet.

The two of you (Paul Lund and Michael AIL) are really pathetic. Your post everywhere on this website blindly assuming other posters do not have any idea what they're talking about. Michael AIL, you work for the Altig agency in Virginia. Big effing deal. Your part of the worst, slimiest, dishonest agency in the whole of AIL, which is pretty bad considering how slimy and dishonest AIL is as a whole. As someone who was an MGA for 2 years with the Altig agency I can personally attest to how they treat fellow agents and clients. I have personally seen Rob Hay (your mentor I believe) as well as Rick Altig himself flat out lie to other agents to better their causes. I have seen RGA's in the Altig agency personally write checks to agents in order to keep their mouths shut about what goes on there. You have the nerve to come on here and try to sway everyone to believe your this hotshot producer and I can't even find your name in the recent spotlight. The fact of the matter is 98% of all hirees will leave within the first year if not before. Yet your're trained, no conditioned to say "The insurance business is hard and every insurance business has the same retention...blah, blah, blah." Another lie that they have you entagled in. I can show you dozens of other highly reputable investment firms that pay for training, have agents who stay longer than six months, and don't have to lie to clients to get in the door.

Paul Lund, whoever is calling you a tool is completely accurate. You have brought nothing to the table in your posts only to further show potential AIL agents how they can expect to be treated. Even if you do or do not work for AIL anymore, it doesn't matter. Your posts show how lame a person you are and you are actually slowing down the advancement of the human race. Please stop and return to whatever rock you crawled out from under.

Samantha B - Just because someone chooses to not work for a company [any company, not just AIL] any more, does not mean that they have something against the company... Some people leave because they have another calling in life. In one case I have seen myself Phil Folkertsma[sp?] left AIL not because he hated the company, or had anything against it. But because he was very into his religion and was getting more involved in his religious aspects of his life. But, he was able to just stop working for 'the man' and do 'the lords' work because of all the years he put in at AIL, guarantees that he'll have an income coming for the rest of his life...

Let me ask you, how many people do you know that worked for a company, let's say in this case, McDonalds or Subway or Wal-mart and after quitting, cut all times with them. Like 'oh I worked there for 3 years, I'll never eat there, bring my friends there, shop there, etc...' You probably do not know too many people like that, if any. Right?

Most of those people move on from one career to another [again, not just AIL specifically] do so because they have to relocate because of family or certain extenuating circumstances, or it's career path for something that they have ALWAYS wanted to do and now getting that opportunity to do so (like music, or acting, or even growing their own family) anything like that. So please, don't go around saying that just because someone doesn't work for a company, but still supports that said company, or field of work, that they 'obviously' work for the company still. That makes you look like a person who is vehement on discrediting anyone who says something of substance about a company. In this case, that company being AIL, a company that I DO work for, and enjoy.

Samantha B - what are all the companies that you, yourself have worked for? do you go around telling people that since you don't work there anymore it must be a bad and terrible place? And also, Since you don't work there any more, that company must not be supported by you as an individual and for anyone else to support it, they are obviously paid to... That sounds quiet ridiculous, I know. But that's what you're summing it up to.

Paul Lund - For someone to defend a company that they no longer work for speaks volumes. Not just about the person, but the company as well. I hope that you have found your true calling in whatever it is that you're doing now, and I hope you enjoy it to the fullest. Back on Topic though, being that I do work for the company, I 'obviously' have a biased opinion, but that's what an opinion is, biased. And Samantha B, yours is no different.

Samantha B - I really hope that the person you are describing in your post, is not the type of person that you are because that's not a very productive way of living life. If it is, I hope you do find something that you can wake up in the morning to, and in the future speak positively of. Life is all about experiences, and unfortunately, we all will experience bad ones, but we will also experience great ones. Your past career endeavors may have been some-what un-fulfilling [assuming]. But one day you'll find where you belong, whether it be with the company you're in now. Or a company you'll be in, in the future. Either way, I wish you the best. But for any one reading this who is on the fences about going in to an interview. Go, find out first hand if it's something that YOU want to do. Not something that you just read or heard people say not to do it. Some people like it, some people don't. But at least the people who didn't like it, made that decision for themselves. I urge you to do the same.

I find it funny all of the "ex" AIL employees come on here and still defend AIL. The above post is clearly delusional if he thinks we can't tell he still works for them. And if he doesn't, that's even worse. Something not quite right with someone who vehemently defends a company they themselves no longer work for.

American Income Life Insurance - bad mouthed rep

MichaelAIL, I've seen you on a couple of these complaint listings, and I have some questions for you: how many hours do you *actually* put in to that one hour of work? Yes, your meeting with the person maybe 1 hour long, but how many hours do you spend actually obtaining that hour? How many hours driving around? Calling people? What happens to that advance should the consumer you sold to change their mind (this one I really wish to know the answer to)? There have been people who have succeeded with Vector too (Vector also pays if you get an appointment, regardless if you actually sell anything)... in fact, any set up like that necessitates at least a few people do well. The vast majority that fail don't do so because they were lazy, as I've seen claimed frequently. They fail because the system is not set up for success unless you're absolutely ruthless in wanting that success.

I've spent most of my years in biotech, and I also own my own business. I went in to a group interview at AIL out of curiosity more than anything. I think I'll stick with the biotech industry, where I know that I get paid for *every* hour I work, and even if I happen to get sick and need a day (or more) off.

Paul Lund is a major tool - You cannot get 3 to 4 times the insurance from a 'reputable' company based off the same coverage, unless you're comparing Whole life coverage, to term life coverage. In that case, it's true, if it's whole life and whole life, that is completely incorrect, and if you'd like to give me a real quote for a person X age, X dollar amount and X coverage, I'll show you those real numbers. Do not make baseless claims and say that they are true please, because they are not true. Unless, again, you're talking about WL vs Term.

I did not make any mention about AIL being a Fortune 500 company, because I don't say ever that AIL, First since I've been here ( Since October 2007) No one [in management] has ever said this was a fortune 500 company, that I personally have worked with. In our orientation video it says "a fortune 1, 000...", but even then, out of all of what I said you can only pull that I did not mention that they are a fortune 500 company? Splitting hairs much?

Spotlight shows mainly new agents in their first year, and Top producers. Which the new agents are listed [don't quote me on all the names cuz I dont exactly remember what the exact words are] but like "ice breakers" but also focuses on promotions and things. There are more than '25 agents are on pace to eclipse the 60k mark' I can show you PHYSICAL reports [advance reports] one, being mine, but 5 others in my office making over 60k a year [2-5 are over 4 years with company, 1 is in first year, 2 are me and another manager in 2-3 area]

If you'd like me to put money where my mouth is Send an Email to MichaelEllisAIL@gmail.com and i'll send you actually 'advance reports' that shows you what we've made thus far just off initial advances (bonuses not included), Retention, Net To Gross, MTD production, Annual Production, and 6mo-production. Obviously, personal information will be redacted, but I'll list names, and the listed information up there. Just to show you the truth, and IF you do email me let me know that it's you so I won't just disregard the email. In fact it i'd also be available for you to call me if you like. its [protected], if i dont answer leave a message and i'll get back to you. But please don't flame me or anything like that, because I'm only try to give my portion of the facts. As I have stated on more than one occasion, this career path is not for everyone. I don't act like it is, and i'm glad it's not. But there are people who are successful, who make a lot of money, have fun doing it. I am one of those people, I love what I do. I am able to enjoy what I do because I gave myself the opportunity to decide on my own, if this was something that seemed right for me. I also read flame sites before I went to my interview, I almost didn't show, but i'm glad I did.

Again, WTF are you rambling on and on about? You just wasted 5 minutes of my life to prove, again, to myself and everyone else reading your post that and AIL agent, if they are good, will make $60, 000 in a year. Big effin deal. And no, AIL's insurance is not inexpensive by any measure. For $50 a month you can get 3-4 times the coverage at an actual reputable company. Additionally, you did nothing to refute the above claims regarding Torchmark's status as a Fortune 500 company.

According to the most recent Spotlight magazine, only 25 agents are on pace to eclipse the $60k mark for this year. 20. 20 out of 4000 or so. How come you guys never show us what the other 98% of agents are making?

this is a group response to MJD, Amanda and krystal429

Krystal I am not sure how them expanding in to jupiter and them finding your resume on palm whatever it was consists of being a "scam" because thats what all the "previous people are saying that are true". I think that means they are expanding and they saw your resume and called you for a possible interview... And some people LIKE commissions based jobs and it is a fact that you CAN and i say CAN not will make more money on commissions than you will hourly. For the simple fact that if you make 12 dollars an hour and you work 8 hours a day you make a whopping 96 dollars that day. If you times that by 4 more days (or 8x5 if math isn't your strong suit) you get $480.00 in that week Before taxes which at the end of the month is about $1, 900 again, before taxes. and then you take a commissions based job (for this case i'll use AIL obviously) where you take that same scenario but in this case you sale, enroll whatever you wanna call it, a person who is making that said $12 an hour it looks like this.

their hour of power* =12 a week

12 x **4.34 =52.08 a month (for the family to pay for their insurance) which is 624.96 annually in which based off your contract its

50% commission rate (based off annual premium) which is 624.96 times by .5 which equals =312.48. then you take that number and

times it by .65(the advanced rate) which equals $203.11. the 203.11 is what you will get paid for 1 hour (and if you're new 2.5 hours) of

your day. This is based off of one family paying 52.08 a month for life insurance that is for the whole family not just one. If you see 20

people a week(some do some don't) then just based off rough numbers you should enroll at least 3. That's saying out of 20 people you saw 3

enrolled that's roughly a 15% sale ratio, which is normal for some and low for others. if you make 3 sales that exact same size thats 203.11

times 3 which equals $609.33 at the end of the week NOT including bonus. How the bonus structure works without going in to very

specific detail if you do this every week you will get 15% of the ALP(Annualized life premium) which we know in this case the Annualized

life premium is 624.96. Take that number times it by 3 and you get 1889.88 ALP the bonus is 15% of that number which is 1889.88

x.15 which equals to $283.48. this is also paid on that same week. So far this is a total of $609.33 plus 283.48 which is $892.81 at the

end of the week. But it goes one step further, for new agents in their FIRST 9 months every time you bonus the company is going to also

give you an additional $175.00 every single week you bonus. So, the final number comes out to being $1, 067.81 in ONE week. How

many people do you know who makes MORE than 12 dollars an hour then it's based off that number which means even more money for the

same process. If one did JUST 1889.88 ALP every single week for a year they would make $44, 640 including 6 weeks of vacation and

another $6, 300 roughly for that year which totals out to be $50, 940 in a year. I will say honestly if you are seeing 20 people a week you

will naturally get better at your job, thus increasing your close ratio. JUST increasing the close ratio and making ONE more sale a week

and not changing the ALP at all increases your income by another $10, 000 to 60k a year. You do the math with whatever digit of money

you would like to make and see how much that is. And lastly, for the people saying "58.02 whole dollars a month! THATS SO

EXPENSIVEEEEEE" ask your friends or your parents or relatives how much they pay for their life insurance, see what they say.

*Hour of power is the program that AIL Offers to their members which is based off of their hourly wage and customized to each specific family (if you have a spouse and kids, the program includes them. if it's just you it is based off you. If you have just kids and you then it's based of you and your kids.)
** this is how many weeks are in a month.

On a side note, All the numbers I used are completely accurate (maybe off by a few cents or couple dollars here and there) but accurately reflect what one will make by having 3 sales from families where their monthly premium is $52.08 with no extra bonuses that aren't normally given or any extra incentives that aren't normally paid to any insurance producing individual that works for american income.

(by the way i spaced that part purposely because the numbers were starting to blur even for me so hopefully this makes it easier to read)

Amanda1989 I find it kind of strange that someone who posts their resume on a hiring website would first off, complain that someone is calling that person, whether they applied to that specific position or not, secondly purposely forget their resume with still having full intentions of GOING to the interview and then thirdly (or lastly however you want to look at it) go through not just one, not even two interviews but go all the way to the 3rd and final interview to then ACCEPT(which wasn't stated if you did or did not but the way it's worded, it sounds like you did) the position. To me, that sounds like someone who doesn't have any urge to actually find a job and is just posting up a resume to appease the parents so they think you are looking to earn your keep at the house (since based off your Screen name 1989 is the year you were born making you 20 or 19 depending on your birthday). And that anyone who is actually looking for a job will welcome an interview(in most situations of course.)

And on a final note All the people who say why did AIL call me and thats soliciting and thats this and thats that. You have posted your resume on a public information site that deals with employers who are interested in giving unemployed, or people looking to change careers jobs. By that you have consented them to call you even if you have not explicitly said I WANT TO WORK FOR AIL. How many of your friends said I WANT TO WORK FOR MCDONALDS, I would assume and HOPE that none do. Mcdonalds for a lot of people is a temporary job or an inbetween job or sometimes a part time job to occupy your time. I am not ragging on MCDS and saying that it's not a great job, because for some people it is the way they pay their bills. I am simply saying that for the people who want more in their life than "do you want fries with that" or any other typical one line jobs then they welcome companies that are willing to give them an opportunity to prove themselves and to potentially make a lot of money.

I find it funny how I read the "lazy" people don't make it! Well AIL contacted me ( scam right off the back), I never applied there. I went to the "interview", if thats what you would call giving your name(I forgot my resume lmao, purposely), and I got hired, I guess they like the name Amanda. so then I researched the company and found all kinds of people from different states complaining. And for the proud wife of AIL, if your husband is so secure in his job, why are you looking up complaints?

To ProudAILMGA:

Yes, a $700 monthly bonus is a terribly low figure, since as an MGA, you know that an agent will only get one or two of these during their brief stay with AIL. The real point the above post is trying to make is that a $700 bonus, even if you got that every month, is no where near the $100k annually AIL claims you can make. As an MGA you should know this since you're one of the ones lying to potential employees during the interview process. And besides, why would you say he has "no confidence" in himself? If you had a clue of how the insurance/financial industry works (and you don't cause you work for AIL) you too would realize that whatever AIL pays you is far below industry standard. And can you please tell me why you guys are still referring to Torchmark as a Fortune 500 company even though they've never been one? I've been asking that on this site for months now and no one from AIL can give me a straight answer. I don't expect one necessarily since all that comes from AIL employees is lies, but one ounce of truth would be nice. So go back to defending AIL all you want, we all know you're full of ###.

All the best.

American Income Life Insurance you all never even gave it a chance

All those who never even came into the interview based on people who are to lazy and could and would not do there job at American income and then put down the company, you are all unprofessional, lazy and just pure stupid and those who don't even have a job and never even called in to cancel and never showed honestly it just shows how lazy you really are and the job sites you are posted on now have a history on all those who never even gave the company a professional courtesy to call and cancel it now shows on monster and career builder for other employers to see. As for AIL they are a great company that watches out for each other and helps you out when you are down. They provide you with all the tools you need and at the same time you are helping blue collar people protect there family if something happens to the bread winner of the house. They are not a scam they even work with the police department to get child safety kits to you. Plus if they were a scam companies like Giant Eagle, Police departments, and fire departments would not have them as their benefit representatives. If even one of you were smart you would know better than to base going to an interview on this bull on the internet because every single company you go to an interview for has negative things written about them on the internet and is 90% of past employees pissed because they were caned because they were to lazy and unprofessional to keep in that company. I dare you to do the right thing and stop listening to the negative and make an effort to learn the truth and positive from those who are with the company (any company) because we are the truth. I am a great example because they are helping me with a job till I get my license and they have always been extremely respectful to me and everyone else plus they believe in you when no other company will get past the stupid resume. Resumes don't tell a company anything about you as a person and you can never get a manager position without having experience but how can you get experience if no one will even give you that chance and so you continue to be a pee on at every company you work at. That is where AIL is different they don't care about the experience they care about the person you are and they look in-between the lines and see your true potential. I have so many health problems and they don't care that I've had to take my time to get my license or that I need to take a day off, all the other companies treated me like hell because I have medical conditions. AIL treats me like everyone else and didn't dump me over emergencies, or doctors appointments. I can guarantee any company you work for would fire within the first 90 days if you missed a couple of days even if it was because you were in the hospital, they don't care but AIL does. Maybe you need to see if they will give you another chance to be interviewed. I know I could get you back in but please don't be stupid again and base your choices on the opinions of others that just makes you part of the flock and not an independent thinker and leader./
You can always call in and I will set you back in for 1 last chance at an interview to change your life from the monotonous to the exciting and make the money to prove how great you really are compared to those who give up or never even try.

No reputable corporate human resource manager would compose a rambling, derogatory and grammatically juvenile post such as Sheila78's entry above. Succinctness, brevity and professionalism in all forms of communication are the cornerstone of an organization's credibility, internal work values and corporate culture. You will not find, nor uncover a post on any forum by a fanatical AIL employee, shill or anonymous representative that is indicative of any post-secondary level writing. Thus, do you (the reader) want to work in an office comprised of managers and workers of Sheila78's intellectual agility, moral compass, powers of motivation, persuasion, leadership and just positive rhetoric? Fast food corporate chains have all developed vastly superior universal corporate training methods, procedures and codes of conduct than AIL; ones that consistently build up an individual for future success rather than tearing down or encumbering that individual worker's potential and future self-actualization. This being the case, which is a better choice as a long term investment of a worker's time?
To illustrate AIL's predatory approach to human resources I will state the following: you will never see any fast food chain posting (spamming) 50 times per week on every craigslist job section (and every other job site conceivable) in every city across North America as AIL (American Income Life) does.
At this point, I will cite a given global mean definition of Spam: 'Sending the same message indiscriminately to (large numbers of recipients) on the Internet'. This, fundamentally, describes the AIL approach to human resource acquisition and development, and the value that AIL places on its workers (victims); and most importantly the inherent just needs of individual economic freedoms by human society in general. Those spreading this venom around job sites, forums and boards are equally as guilty as the sociopathic employment and corporate practices of AIL (American Income Life). Avoid this degenerate and small minded, disrespectful approach to human labour and/or capital at all cost.
Perhaps this demonstration of the sound application of the English language may be motivational and educational to AIL managers and shills.

Actually, AIL doesn't make it easy for people to even give a courtesy call or to even confirm an appointment. I have a friend who I have been rooting on to go to this interview, but she was expecting a confirmation email for the interview (which I found odd) but never received it. She tried calling 5 different numbers and none of them work. She can't even pull up a working link to AIL's website. Everything about AIL's tactics for calling prospective employees comes off sketchy. Instead of insulting people who were already rubbed the wrong way by AIL, you should post more accurate and helpful information to show AIL isn't a sketchy company... yeah all of these people may have their contacts of Monster.com... but you're a representative for AIL and you're calling people stupid and past employees stupid.. that already screams unprofessional and I personally would not want to work for a company who has people who insult others on a website forum that openly represents the company. It shows what kind of company AIL is. I hope that AIL can get someone with more profession and better hiring skills than they currently have... for their sake.. if they are so desperate to hire, they need to be more willing to answer questions and have working phone numbers and a working website.

American Income Life Insurance fired for no reason

I was hired as an Insurance Agent for American Income Life in Dallas, Texas. I moved to Dallas from out of town on my dime. Stayed in a Hotel at my expense for a week during training. My first full week in the field I made my quota with the gas bonus included. The second week I did 50% of quota and put 1000 miles on my car, had 23 appointments, 30 % cancellations which is normal. The 3rd week of my Monday Noon Sales meetings I was kept around until 4pm and then fired my Manager who never spent one hour in the field with me.
The trainer I had was shocked and didn't understand why this happened to me. Beware of the Hernadiez Agency in Dallas Texas.

WTF are you rambling about? Your post made about as much sense as the one you were criticizing. And AIL paying out claims for 9/11? Seriously? You realize that AIL is not even chartered in the state of New York dont' you? I assumed you would know the difference between AIL and NILCO since they're two diffrent companies. So great job jack ###, you just told everyone that AIL payed out claims in a state their not even registered to sell insurance in. But hey, you're an AIL employee so we can expect less from you.

D thompson you have absolutely no clue as to what you are talking about. American Income has one of the highest claims paying ratios of any company. And the claim process being hard and impossible? that's also complete speculation. Here's the number where you make a claim **[protected]** once someone picks up you insert your policy number here __________ and guess what. it's paid. I am talking about a death claim by the way. When a claim involves an accident claim or something else, yes its more of a process which is the same with ANY insurance company and the process is this. All the medical information where you got this injury treated and the doctors response and then your policy number. If you don't have all of those (except for you policy number that can be found, but takes a couple minutes) especially the medical information no claim will be given. Otherwise anyone can claim 100 times a day with no real records of anything. Learn the actual claim process or even research it and figure that out.

Oh and by the way for anyone who doesn't know this AIL(American Income Life) When 9/11 happened was one of the only companies that paid the claims out to the people who had died on the planes, in the buildings and the police officers and fire fighters who died in that tragic event.

This link illustrates what companies did (it does not state that american income paid claims) as an alternative to paying the families claims when they happened. http://news.outlookindia.com/item.aspx?17636

The people who made and needed that money when 9/11 happened after all these years all those other companies are finally getting some sort of resolve to this? more than 7 years later?! American Income paid those claims when the claims were made. Knowing full well that it was an "act of terrorism" which legally meant they did not have to pay. But did pay anyways.

you definately pulled 92% of the claims are denied out of your ### hoping that no one would question it, when in fact you have no idea. EVERY insurance company also has a verrry high turn over rate.

But lastly Primerica is a company that i say do not do business with. They will replace whatever insurance that you have saying that "oh you dont need this" or something to that extent and selling you a term product which will expire in a few years or your rates will go up and by the time you want to requalify again for whole life you're too old to get a decent amount of coverage for a decent premium or you just can no loner qualify because of health reasons. But If you're looking for term insurance definately go to AIG. And if you're really desperate go to Prudential, they have much higher rates and bad customer service(my mom has prudential and has since i was a kid) and some of the people who are sitting at the tables accepting phone calls about insurance are not actually licensed to sell insurance, it's sometimes just the guy on the sign like "jason biggs agency". But It's 12am and I am tired and my eyes are getting blood shot.

I have been working for this company for almost 8 years... D Thompson makes a comment of

"The company takes the money from these individuals, invest it for themselves, and make the claim process so difficult that most 92.7% of all claims that are filed are denied benefits. If the insured dies, there is no payout to the family, if a claim is pending and the individual dies, the claim is automatically declined."

... You work for Prudential? Don't your clients pay thier payments each month for their policies? And don't you get a renewal from your customers that you sold...? American Income does pay out it's claims. With the number you put out there of 92.7% is crazy... I have no clue where you get your #s from... Maybe they are your own #s. Or are you trying to make you look like your a great person. The bottom line is... selling is a craft that you have to work at it every day. Agents can make alot of money... It will depend on the individual... BTW what is your turnover rate for Prudential? The Life insurance Industry is 11%...

Despite what they say, American Income Life, is NOT registered with the American Insurance Assoc. This company is a scam. I work for Prudential Life and Casualty, and hear about dissatisfied customers that have been scammed by this company all the time. I decided to check this American Income Life out for myself; I interviewed for a sales position, and was told that I could make tons of money each month. The reality is that this company is commission based, and you have to get hard working individuals, with little to no former education, to believe that you are looking out for their best interest by selling them “Peace of Mind”. The company takes the money from these individuals, invest it for themselves, and make the claim process so difficult that most 92.7% of all claims that are filed are denied benefits. If the insured dies, there is no payout to the family, if a claim is pending and the individual dies, the claim is automatically declined. The employees of American insurance Assoc, work long hours and the commission is not worth the effort. There is a large employee turn-over with this company, and most people only stay up to a year.

i had forgotten the name of the company that called me but i had the address and my wife needed to know what exit to take so i conducted a search for the address. after some tail chasing i found this page. the address matched so i got a little concerned. not remembering the name i had some doubt that this was my place. especially since this would have been a nice respite from the food industry and i really want that. then i checked the number listed. sure enough same ###s that called me yesterday. boy, i sure am glad my wife and i had to search for this place online. if i hadn't gotten up early to do so i would have wasted so much time. its funny, the lady who called me for my interview was very clear that i would not find them online. i didn't think it suspicious at first, but in retrospect how many legit businesses don't have some type of at least listing online, let alone website? now i see why she discouraged me from searching online. she knew i would find this site. shame on this company. its hard enough for a decent hard working American man to get a living wage without these vultures coming to steal off my plate. ### them. i would have gone all the way out there and been sorely disappointed. i never give money upfront for anything, so i would have just been wasting time i could be spending getting a real job. thanks to those of you who had the integrity and foresight to red flag these ###s. my wife thanks you too since she would have been driving! i'm going back to bed. good luck and god bless all of you in these trying times.

American Income Life Insurance the real truth about ail

Whether you can or can't, YOU'RE RIGHT! First of all, you don't have to take my word for it. AM Best (www.AMbest.com) has ranked AIL with an A+ rating. That's the highest rating you can get for an insurance company that has been around 50+ years. Also yahoo jobs ranked us #37 in the top 100 places to work in 2009. (http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/HotJobs100/index.html) Working at AIL is like having your own business. You are a contract self employed individual. If I owned a starbucks franchise, I would work it knowing that my results are a reflection of my effort. It is a turnkey system that I have to follow in order for my business to be successful. So if I'm not there at 6AM and a customer wants to buy coffee, then that's my loss. Now if I don't want to be there at 6AM, then I have to hire more help.

Statistically, 5 out of 10 businesses fail in the first year. Out of the 5 that make it, 4 of the 5 will fail in 5 years. Most people focus on the failure rate (they think about getting up at 6AM and don't do it). But a FEW people focus on the on success. Ask any successful business owner. There are some key similarities. They went into business knowing the odds, but still pulled through because they believed in their product or service, and they believed in themselves.

If you want an hourly or salary job, apply somewhere else. If you believe in coffee, then open a Starbucks. If you believe in Life Insurance and helping your community, THEN WORK AT AIL. There is only one guarantee in life. We will all pass away. With that said, there are 2 questions you need to ask yourself... (1)How could a product that insures your life be bad for your family? (2)How could a company that promotes no cost products like food banks, child safe kits, and health service discount programs be good for your community?

Sure there are more competitively priced products out there, but aren't there always? Isn't there cheaper coffee out there? Sure there is! But people continue to pay $4 for a cup of coffee because they are paying for MORE than coffee. They are paying for an EXPERIENCE.

Your career at AIL is determined by the EXPERIENCE you give to your customers. If you are passionate about your product, committed to your customers' well being, present yourself in a professional manner, and do the RIGHT thing EVERYTIME, you will be successful!

Terilee1969...this is no scam? How about their selling practices? Those aren't scams? We are being HARASSED by American Income Life agents after them receiving our information from my father-in-law's union. An agent has shown up twice at our home, unannounced and uninvited. In the last 8 days, my husband has received 32 phone calls (with no voicemail) and over 60 text messages. We started by telling the gentleman politely that we have all of the insurance we need, we aren't interested. However, they do not stop. They follow a cheesy script that can easily be seen right through. When you ask a remotely intelligent question, they can't answer. DO NOT give these people any of your friend's and family's information. We have filed a complaint with their office, but are STILL receiving calls from their agents because we "don't realize the magnitude of the benefits we are missing out on". If we receive another call, the police will be brought into this situation.

I thank God that I was called in for an interview back in April... I thank God for the opportunity that has been given to me. I am in my first 90 days and I must say that this is no scam. I must say that yes there is a short term sacrifice. I must tell you if you don't have good work ethics then this opportunity is not for you. This is a short term sacrifice for a long term gain. In 10 years you can retire. In 10 years you will be fully vested. In 10 years I will be 54 and can only imagine the places I will get to go. Have a dream write it down and watch your dreams be realized as long as you are willing to give it your best...it will definitely reward you...

I hope anyone that reads this, takes this advice. I currently have a policy with AIL as well as my late husband. I really cannot say enough great things about this company on the insurance side of things. I really can not comment on the hiring side because I dont know anything about it. I will tell you this though. When my husband passed not only did the company honor their word with the 3-5 payment to the funeral home, but my agent who was from my understanding a manager by then in another office, drove over 100 miles to come help me fill out claim forms since I was so mentally and emotionally drained from my loss. I dont know anyone that has had the same kind of service Ive had with American Income. I should mention when they first came out to see me, they looked over my existing policies and helped me understand that what i was paying 2000 a year for was going to cost me 10000 when i turned 75. I dont understand why its on a [redacted], as its gone above and beyond for my family.

This is silly on so many levels. I got a call as well because I posted my resume on Monster. I wasn't sure who or what they did but went anyway and listened. I never saw myself in sales but always wanted to own my own business. I am applying to Radiology Tech school in fall and have a B.S. I checked the pros and cons. My uncle has sold insurance for 30+ YEARS! not through AIL. He does investments, insurance, CD's the whole thing. He confirmed AIL is a real company okay. It is not a scam. A scam is something where you work and they don't pay you and the company disappears. I think a big issue is most people in this country don't want to work hard. Sales isn't for everyone. If you want a salary or hourly wage then it's probably not for you. Kids and a lot of Americans have this attitude that as soon as they graduate college or if they get laid off they will only take a job paying 200, 000 and they want to start as CEO. WAKE UP. Talk to your grandparents, that is NOT how it happens ok. You aren't entitled to anything so get over this sense of entitlement and get off your lazy a**es. Watch the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" it's based on a true story. That guy worked his a** off doing cold calls all day, bringing coffee, parking cars. Get over yourselves. If sales isn't for you then it's not for you but that doesn't make the company a scam. Also, reading from a script is a popular way of training employees, they have scripts at call centers, scripts when you answer the phone at Barnes & Noble, scripts when you call your bank or telephone company. Its corporate's way of keeping cohesion. You can't have franchises all over the world spouting different things. If you don't like corporate atmospheres then go get your tent and slum it on Wall Street.

You are right Monique, no matter if you're on the 'do not call' list. Once your resume is posted on a job search engine an employer can call you, regardless. Because, at that point you have just authorized it. Even if it wasn't from each company that you authorized it, you gave all companies that are hiring to call you... as long as it has to do with an available position.

Good I'm glad to see that you're hard work is paying off. What office are you in Monique?

First off I want to say that I started working for American Income Life in October of 2007. Todays date and time is 5:21PM on April 19th 2010 and I am still working for the company. I am very happy where I am at and I have no intentions of leaving insurance or this company. I have had my ups, I have also very well had my downs, that comes with every job, career and even life, so that subject doesn't need to be delved on. I do want to address the fact that everyones biggest "complaint" or "scam" about American Income/ Altig International is the fact that we use scripts... yeah, so what? When you go through training on anything, anywhere at any location is it not true the people training you use a script or a binder to train you at the very least have a training method? Do the people who call you for an interview get trained on what to say and why to say this so that they do not accidentally leave something important out? regardless of if that information is written down on a piece of paper and in front of them or committed to memory? (which in most cases it is on paper). Name one company that does not use scripts in some way to teach or to relearn or even to utilize in their daily duties. On top of that I don't know why it's just so offensive that someone is using a script to talk to you? Do you not like being informed BEFORE you come into an interview that if you wear jeans and a cut off shirt or a mini-skirt that you WILL be asked to go home. Do you not like knowing that you, being unemployed, you might have several interviews and if you come in to an interview and you assume it's going to be 20 minutes or 30 minutes WANT to know that "this may take 2 hours to even 2 1/2 hours". I know I would.
I also realize and so should you, this position is not for everyone. I also do not know any jobs that EVERYONE can do it no matter what so there will be people who get fired, and even wont be hired. There will be people who cannot pass their insurance test and there will be people who feel like they cannot do sales. I get that, hopefully you get that. I am in fact a manager in an office in North Carolina and I deal with hiring. and I can confirm that yes, we do see your resume and I can pull that up and I can look at what it says on your resume and for all the idiots who say they are on the do not call list, if you are looking for a job and you have a resume up and you post your number there, guess what not just AIL will call by you putting your number on there (do not call list and all) you have just agreed to be contacted aka "solicited" but in this case, employers. So lets put 2 and 2 together; Resume online with phone number + A company hiring (in this case AIL) = NOT illegal. and you have agreed to be contacted (maybe not by AIL specifically, but if you got to choose who you were contacted by looking for a job would be pointless you would just give your number to all the CEOS of you first pick companies. If you don't want to be contacted about a job, don't put your number on your resume and I guarantee you will not be called by American Income. Or even better if you want to be contacted about a specific job I.e construction, real estate, licensed nursing, etc... say on your resume at the begining "I am looking for a position in __________" I bet that will help your job search quiet a bit more. But when you put a resume ONLINE where ANY employer can see with your previous jobs look like this: where you only worked for arbys and part time reception and filing clerk and even had a 5 month long full time position as a cook for Long Johns Silver(yuck) while thinking you're going to get a call for a position from a company making 25 an hour to start for your dream job and they want to hire you today, you're sadly mistaken and should probably re-evaluate looking for any position that requires one to use their own brain and their own common sense.
American Income and Altig International does have a high turn over rate, So does Mcdonalds so does pretty much any company that has servers, waiters, hairdressers, CONSTRUCTION and even care givers and i'm assuming from the unemployed persons aspect the career, job that you just voluntarily left (but probably didn't) to look for bigger and better things. Sometimes bigger and better things aren't in the form of Insurance sales, sometimes it is. How many people in the music industry make it, or the acting industry, Dance, Play, and even game making industry make it. With that being said, it doesn't make it any less of a real and viable solution to providing for your family or someone else providing for their family while protecting someone else's. The main reason why AIL has a high turn-over rate is because it takes someone who can motivate themselves to go to work. Someone who can be self sufficient and have the drive to not just be satisfied with 500 dollars a week but wants and KNOWS they can and should be making 5, 000 and is willing to actually put in the TIME to actually put in the WORK to actually sacrifice their own social life so that they can not only learn how to make money but continually make money on a weekly basis because this is hard work, but hard work is rewarded with great success and usually a pretty impressive amount of money.

I am not saying that everyone who reads this will agree with me or believe me, you don't have to and in fact probably for the best that you don't go in for an interview because you either A: won't make it passed the final or B: wont be able to figure out how to wake up in the morning to get to work on time. This is a career opportunity for the people who want to better them selves who want to provide for their family while positively impacting other families and lastly have a career that they can look back on and see the actual fruits of their labour. For a person who cannot see themselves putting in 10 hours a day 6 days a week, I strongly encourage you to go apply at Mcdonalds or go apply at Arbys or any where that requires just a warm body and sometimes a smiling face. that might be a better fit for you, but for most of those people it doesn't make you happy. I am happy with my career choice and even if you do work for another company just be happy with your career choice.

?**and if you are called for an interview, it is a script. Its in your best interest and theirs but at least go to the interview it takes 2 hours out of your life, if you don't like what you hear, guess what you can still live the rest of it. But when you do listen to it and you do like it, if you are chosen then know it won't be an easy path, it will be hard work it will be rewarding. And even if you don't like it you've just accomplished something that a lot of these people i have seen on these posts have not. You have made the decision for yourself and not because someone else told you or because you read something on a board from someone who you don't even know. For all you know they could be an alcoholic or a drug abuser or even communist!(just kidding) It may not be for them, but unless you go and find out for yourself you will not know if it's for you.****

I have read through blogs and blogs and blogs from people that thought that they were misled into an interview that was going to be a "real job". I personally thought so myself when they contacted me out of Goodlettesville TN. However I knew that when I left that building that first day that it was a commission only position but I was intrigued by the benefit package itself as well as the lead process. I researched the company itself as a company and was further impressed. I moved forward with obtaining my insurance license which does nothing but further my career opportunities, so what that they didn't pay for it, it's mine, I own it and can use it anyway I choose whether it be with AIL or somebody else. I was approached one afternoon in a Super Cuts right after my test and right after my first visit with AIL by a gentleman that overheard me telling the girl that I just got my license. He worked for New York Life as an agent. He very, very much so wanted to give his manager my number and I got a call from a man named Shayne 2 days later for an interview. I would guess that the guy that approached me may get some type of "recruiting" something off of me, I don't know, but I assumed he would. Why else would he have approached a total stranger in a Super Cuts in the aggressive manner in which he did going on and on and on about NYL. I went and interviewed with NYL and determined it was not for me. I had no desire to cater or sell to persons that are already filthy rich, they don't really need me. As I a sat across from the 30 year old "partner" in all of his incredible arrogance in his high dollar suit and gold cuff links, I did not like the guy. I thought he was a jerk. But it would take a jerk like that to cater to a filthy rich business owner looking to "hide" some money. He let me know that they pay high dollar for their leads and that when I "cold call" these people I would know everything about them. How much income, what they paid for their home, DOB, etc. He then informed me that to be considered "full time" I had 45 days to sell 6 policies. I found that to be just plain tacky. He then lead me to a computer in a tiny little cubicle in the very very back of the mass fancy building by an exit door and told me to take my little "hamster test" online and when I was finished I could exit out of the building "here" as he pointed to the door under the exit sign. I was thinking, seriously? This is just plain tacky. He was a smooth talking, overly aggressive twerp and although I am quite certain that he would have hired me I emailed him and copied in the original guy with an incredibly appreciative email extending my gratitude for his time, etc that any normal human being would have sent a response back to. I got nothing. Because I am incredibly green in the insurance world, I want to know about the package itself, not the employment opportunities or lack thereof that people may feel. I have been able to pull up both positive and negative. Personally comparing this package to policies that I have been sold over the years I find it to be well worth the dollars paid. Again though, I am as green as it gets in this new conquest of mine. Somebody please prove me wrong. I have seen some people saying that AIL has an F rating through the BBB so I looked here

http://www.bbb.org/central-texas/business-reviews/insurance-companies/american-income-life-insurance-company-in-waco-tx-35384

I see A+. Somebody please guide me to this F. I have wanted to back out due to some of these blogs but will stay in just because I am finding very positive things about the company as well after digging deeper. At the end of the day is the package presented to these families horrible, that is what I truly want to know. I can't find anything saying that it is. I was looking for a job after walking out of a job after a horrifying merge. I tried to start my own company within the same industry and was immediately sued because of a non-compete. It is only good for a year and I will move forward with that. In that industry I was the person responsible for bringing in benefits for my employees and find this package that AIL is selling to be far superior to things that were being offered by others such as AFLAC etc. Somebody please prove me wrong on this, that is what I am asking. I am not afraid of hard work and sales if I truly believe in what I am selling. Furthermore I will generate my own leads if I am truly passionate about the product.
So, please, for the love of Pete, somebody help me out and show me that the product sucks because for the life of me I can't find anything stating such. I have found a great deal of negative feedback from ex employees on the discount card so I decided to call around in my area. I went to http://www.findbestbenefits.com/
and entered promo code 849004 and did a search of pharmacies that take the card. 11 showed up in my area so I called and all of them acknowledged that they do in fact honor the card. I fail to see the negative here. I have several friends and family members who are self-employed and would find any savings on prescriptions to be of value. I myself plan to be self employed no matter what I choose to do and would find the discounts to be of value, self-employed folks don't normally have access to affordable programs of any kind. I saw one guy bashing the child safe kits saying the information can be put down on notebook paper. In hindsight, that's brilliant. But most don't. This is a vital reminder to them that they should as well as an opportunity to do so, so what's the harm? As well as the family info guide. Most don't have this info handy so it seems to be a vital reminder as well and an opportunity to do so so again, so again, whats the harm? And at the end of the day I'll take a free $2000.00 AD&D policy so again, what's the harm? The way that I see it is that people don't want to think of death and most go their entire lives without even getting a policy of any kind and reality is that the burden is left on somebody else. Nobody wants to discuss it but it is all too real. This is presented in a way that people can go, "huh, you know honey, we don't have anything". To me it's ### to put the burden of your death on others and everybody should have protection in place. What do you care when your dead that your family, be it your mother or father, siblings, whomever, had to take a second mortgage to bury your ### and take care of your personal affairs and children and/or spouse that you left behind, YOUR DEAD. So again, somebody please show me where what AIL is offering to people is bad. And as far as the argument of just tucking the money away yourself, again, hindsight. Not to mention that if you tuck 30 bucks away in 2 weeks and are killed in an accident on that second week you've socked away a whopping 30 bucks to take care of your affairs.

American Income Life Insurance - job opportunity scam - beware

American Income Life Insurance weird

I too was contacted by an HR rep. from American Income. He called from his cell phone to my home at 9:00 at NIGHT! I thought that was odd from the beginning. I have been in the job search for a while now and they call your home late at night. He wanted me to come in for an interview the next morning. I could not... So, I have an interview next Thursday. I have read every complaint on the website and my conversativation matches everyone elses. So, therefore I am not wasting my time with this interview next week. I thank everyone for putting their comments on here. I would wasted a great deal of time and money if it wasn't for everyone posting their experiences.

I received a call today and was told that the job paid a salary of 65000 to $80, 000 a year guaranteed. I asked if this is sales, and she said no . I asked if this was business to business or door to door sales., she said no. I asked if this is commisioned base she said no. I was told that this is salary based . So I have an interview on Thursday at noon I will actually find out more about the position and find out if this is a scam or real and I will advise. I'm praying it's true.

Pissed off single parent, I would have been if I would have showed up to this bogus interview and wasted my time. Thanks to everyone that post your comments about this scamming Company. This has really helped a lot of us that was called by this company for so called interviews. I also found it strange that the initial caller was so vague about this job opportunity but had sworn to have seen my resume on monster. Again, thanks to all the comments, in doing so you have saved a lot of us time and money.

American Income Company, called me and asked if i had filled out a form for life insurance through HFT ( Houston Federation of Teachers). Indeed, i had filled out a card a few weeks back and mailed it back as instructed. The caller was a woman who claimed she needed to come to my house and get a document signed. While talking to her, i felt the call was very weird since the caller was unable to even pronounce my name. She sounded very unprofessional, but had all my personal information, even went as far as asking if i was single or married. Several hours later, i still didn't feel right about the call, so i decided to call back the number. Sounded like a legit business but no one answered the call. I went ahead to google the company and i came across this website. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!

American Income Life Insurance scam or not... not taking any chances

I read a couple of these complaints and had the same strange call come to me this morning. My first suspicion was the simplicity of the name so i decided to look it up. It has a website that looks pretty legitimate and almost took the bait. I then Googled American Income Life "plus" scam and a scores and scores of results came up. Clicked on a link to this website and was convinced that I should not waste my time with this crap. From the way people describe it, it sounds like one of those pyramid scams where you slave for the big guys in the company for little or non pay. In a pyramid scam you can get rich, if and only if, you are a huge liar that is willing to sell your sole to the devil by selling people a bs product. But either way scam or not, I'm not willing to find out from experience because i have no time or money for it. Oh and by the way I will not make that 20 minute trip for the interview tomorrow morning at 10:30. I will be back out there looking for a real job with real money every week. The more i keep trying, I know something will come up for me.

P.S. God bless this site and God bless the people willing to share their experience.
And curiosity killed the cat, but it wont kill me...

To silentk:

"This isn't the most straight forward job I've had, no. But the angles we use to get into the home are the only way 99% of people will give us the time of day."

See you're missing the point entirely. Some of the larger complaints on here come from unsavory practices from AIL agents and how they relate to the union members. And you just admitted that you're not upfront with union members and basically lie to get into people's homes. I would expect someone who has a degree from "both OSU and UK" to know better. Well, you work at AIL so I guess we should know to expect less from AIL agents.

Oh, and Torchmark is not and has never been a Fortune 500 company.

PEOPLE! Sales isn't for everyone! Especially thepeople who like a steady guaranteed paycheck. AIL IS REAL. I work for them and make a decent salary. Been there for a few years now. It's not for everyone. Life insurance is very complicated and we need a way to show people why they need it. If they don't need it... we leave. Plain and simple. I curently hold a degree from both OSU and UK. Masters in business. Been in sales all my life. This isn't the most straight forward job I've had, no. But the angles we use to get into the home are the only way 99% of people will give us the time of day. Otherwise were just another telemarketer. The insurance is real though. We give no cost insurance to union members and their sponsors. If they want the extra benefits that come after that, they buy them. PL]lain and simple. Not to complicated. People that do not understand sales will never understand what we do and why/ how we do it. SO LAY THE F$%K off and find a different job if you can't do sales. Fair enough right?

American Income= hard work, dedication, strength and big reward. It is fine to post your a opinion about a company that gives you an opportunity that you turned down. But these sites should be reserved for people who speak from experience. I value experience above all else. This career is not for everyone but if helping people is important to you then this career could be perfect. If you see this business as "lies" and you don't believe that insurance helps millions of people every year than go work in the service industry. Oh wait even McDonald's is scripted. Does that mean you don't want a hamburger.

The fellow with the above comment obviously is a FOLLOWER or an UNEDUCATED PERSON. Before you make a judgment toward the writer of the complaint, please understand that he/she is making an opinion. How much are you earning a week while being with the company? I used to work for AIL in California. I KNOW THE FACTS BECAUSE I WAS THERE! I agree with the writer's concerns. You spend your time on the field wasting gas, eating unhealthy food, being exposed to careless drivers, meeting rude and uncooperative prospects, and LYING ABOUT YOUR INTENTION from making the appointment to FORCING them into a sale. After one week, how much are you entitled to on your paycheck for all the crap that you go through, without accounting for the non-paid expenses out of your own pocket?

I was also "wooed" into the $ sign of making 60-70K the first year while also being promoted to different levels of 'managers' that I forgot to use my freedom: reasoning. I worked and ATE all their lies from the day I started their class training to the day I went out on my own. What is the worst crime that one could do? AMPLIFYING THE LIE! Everything from phone calls to presenting the products was scripted. Where is the creativity or the chance for one to excel in a corporate environment? I loath the fact that my immediate managers were egomaniacs who spoke to me through COMMANDS and COMMANDS and COMMANDS. I studied SCIENCE for 5 years in a well-known university. They looked at me like an inmate who just came into the company. So insulting!

So what evidence through your experience with the company that you so contradict the writer? One more tip, if you speak to me like that in my home like the way you write, YOU ONLY FURTHER STEREOTYPE THE ###S THAT DO STAY IN THE COMPANY TO DO THE DIRTY WORK FOR THE MANAGERS' SHARE!
