American Heart Association Instructor

I took a CPR BLS renewal class on 8/23/23.

I was told by the instructor that as long as my name was correctly written on the sign in sheet, I should not have any issues as they did not write my last name spelled correctly in the email they sent me. When I text the instructor about why my eCard still had my last name spelled incorrectly, he said it was already fixed and resent. I told him I did not see a revision and he advised me via an email to log back in as it should be correct. It still was not the case. I contacted him again today via text after he did not respond to my previous phone call or email and he still has not provided me with a copy of my correct card. I will lose my job over this if I can’t submit this card with my correct name. He was aware of this and has still neglected to respond to me or resolve my issue and it’s been 5 days since I took the class.

Desired outcome: I need my corrected CPR card before I lose my job (need it by 8/31/23) and I would like this instructor to refund me my money.

American Heart Association - Inappropriate interactions both verbally and physically.

I attended a CPR training required by my employer, on August 8, 2023. In a large group setting, the instructor of the CPR class began the class with jokes and playful behavior. As a group, including myself, were under the impression that if he could joke, so could we. He made a comment when demonstrating how to use an AED device. He stated" I am going to...

American Heart Association cpr training in Columbus, OH

The CPR/fIrst aid course was so overwhelming that very little attention was given to older participants. Some of us do not have the strength in the upper ams to get the dummy to light up when performing cpr. in addition, the supervisor in the room weighed at least 500 lbs-- not a good example of a healthy heart. This was the most miserable training session I have ever had. I am a retired teacher.

Desired outcome: Apology and improvement in trainers' demeanor and attitudes for future students.

American Heart Association I didnt recieve my card as advertised after completing the course

I took the ACLS renewal course yesterday. I was supposed to receive my card and I did not the instructor stated that your E card site is down. I paid for the service full cost which advertised same day card. Due to the fact that the course was time sensitive and the reason for me booking was to receive my card on the same day. My employer has taken me of the schedule for 30 days on a job where I earn 800$ a day. This false advertisement, the instructor did nothing to get me a card. i even asked for a written card until the E card arrives and still nothing. Unfortunately, I will have to legally obtain any days and moneys lost due to this. My instructors name is Cher Hamilton [protected]

American Heart Association Fee and experience during BLS training

I located a provider (Erica Haygood) through the American Heart Association website to teach me BLS. I looked at several classes that ranged from $0 to $45.00 per class. I enrolled in Erica's class that stated the class was FREE. So I took off work to get the class completed and drove 45 min to an apartment complex. I then had to call several places to locate an actual apartment which the class was being held. Once I arrived Erica told me the class wasn't FREE instead it was $100.00! I'm extremely upset as I feel like I was scammed. Of course I had no choice to pay it because I already took off work and drove there. I thought this was a reputable company but now I have my doubts. The private apartment I had my class in was not ideal for a class. The teacher stated she didn't have all the equipment needed and it smelled like cats. The teacher was really nice but seriously... $100.00? I didn't even receive a book or any class materials! I am blown away that AHA would allow this. I feel scammed and I'm not happy!

Desired outcome: The class stated it was free and I would like my money back. Not to mention the teacher was not prepared and I received no class materials.

American Heart Association Blocked from transferring training center alignment /instructor recertification

In November 2022, I requested a transfer of BLS Instructor Training Center Alignment site related to a new employer. I was also required to recertify my BLS instructor status before 12/29/2022. The new site NJ00569 initiated the transfer process on 11/11/2022 at which time my BLS Instructor status was immediately placed in a "pending" status by the current site NJ00586. I was also blocked from the Instructor Network. The new site coordinator was amenable to recertifying me however NJ00586 was unresponsive to the transfer request.

NJ00569 did not receive a response from NJ00586. Numerous emails and phone calls ensued between me and the Training Center sites without resolution. The original site coordinator NJ00586 requested a meeting with me. I provided my availability. His secretary repeatedly returned phone calls with dates and times that I was unable to attend. I have taught only 3 classes in 12/2022. I am a nurse educator, and all face-to-face contact was on hiatus related to Covid-19 hence the inability to teach CPR.

This issue has been going on since my original request to transfer and recertify. I have considered taking a new BLS instructor certification class. However, I am writing to you since I started the Recert process in a timely fashion and followed the process as I was instructed. It is also very expensive to certify. It has been 5 months since I started this process. I am required to provide BLS education/certification in my current position. I am very much looking forward to resuming the ability to provide BLS education/certification to our students and faculty.

Any recommendations that you can provide are very much appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Desired outcome: The ability to transfer from Training Center Alignment NJ00586 to NJ00569.The ability to recertify with TC NJ00569 and maintain BLS Instructor status.

American Heart Association LifeTek instructor

Unfortunately I have to report one of the instructors who taught in the class on April 20th Thursday in FESC in tacoma, Washington. He’s name is Jonathan Chisnell, he was a new instructor in training in LifeTek.

During the mega code, he picked on my accent. I asked “does this patient have a pulse?” He said “what? Purse?” After I repeated myself three times. What’s funny is that all other students understood me just fine, and helped me by saying “pulse”

Just like racism, accentism is a serious matter. You don’t have to say N word to discriminate certain race. In the same way, you don’t have to say “I can’t understand your accent” to discriminate non native speakers. I’ve been in the US since 2000, I experienced lots of subtle mockeries and sarcasm, I know when I see one. There is a night and day difference between someone trying to genuinely understand and someone picking on my accent. I found Jonathan the latter because he was belittling me other ways as well. He read the scenario extremely fast when it was my turn for mega code, I had to ask him to read it slowly (I don’t normally have to ask anybody to slow down, I’m a fast talker as well). I felt discriminated and mortified, I barely finished the class.

I really hope that this kind of behavior is not tolerated in AHA classes, and this issue is discussed with instructors, so there wouldn’t be another person who had to endure this type of discrimination.

I also want to add a few more things why Jonathan shouldn’t lead classes.

He had an arrogant attitude throughout the class. He was sitting back on a chair while students had to stand in front him one at a time like in a prison (such a strange setting for a mega code).

He didn’t seem to understand how mega code should be. it wasn’t a team effort at all, it was all about putting one person in a hot seat while everyone else was staring, and you are stupid if you answer something wrong.

I never wrote any bad review about anything or anyone, but I let this go this time, because I don’t want anyone else suffer the way I did because non native speakers stay quiet about accentism, it will happen over and over again. Please dont let this issue be ignored.

Desired outcome: Jonathan Chisnell should be reevaluated as an instructor.

American Heart Association The aha compliance department

I am an instructor for the aha and a certified training site. I have been sanctioned by the compliance department stating that everyone in my training site has complaints but we have not been told what the complaints are and the compliance dept refuses to tell me what the complaints are. I have 4 other instructors in my training site and they are saying all but one instructor has numerous complaints but have failed to inform us as to the nature of the complaints. As a result they are requiring that we all be retrained at a cost of upwards of $1,000 in order to maintain our instructor status. Even the one person whom they say have no complaints must be retrained just out of affiliation as being a part of our training center. I feel this is unfair and a form of harassment.

Desired outcome: I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE EXACT NATURE OF THE COMPLAINTS AND TO HAVE THE OPTION TO SEEK RETRAINING AT ANOTHER TRAINING CENTER IF WE MUST

American Heart Association Training Center owner

Hello,

My name is Dr. A'Londa L. Barber and I am an  AHA Instructor #[protected].  As of 07/18/22 I was deactivated by Brandon Home Center owner of Jumpstart your Life LLC, because I asked him questions via text regarding the following:

1. The substantially increased amount of cards.  Heartsaver K12  and BLS Provider ECard

     $14 each vs AHA price of $2.20 & $2.95

2. Why did he have a purchase minimum and the system did not?

3.  What are the rules and processes for transferring to another center?

When I asked him these main questions along with others, he answered and then ceased when I asked about the process for transfer.  Within the hour I received an email stating he deactivated me as an instructor and I had 5 days to find another center.

I am trying to understand his reasoning for deactivating me when I met all the guidelines.  I tried to call and apparently he has blocked me. I am sure this is not how AHA allows their Centers to operate or handle is customers.

At this point, I would like to know if I can transfer to another center, or does the deactivation stand?

Please advise so I know how to move forward regarding the unethical practices of Brandon Home, the training center owner of Jumpstart you Life, LLC.

American Heart Association Unethical behavior

I registered for a BLS in Healthcare Provider course for today (10/26 at 6-8:45pm) at the in Albany, NY. I paid for the course and was notified 3 hours prior that the course is now cancelled. I attempted to call the instructor and there was no answer. She proceeded to text me stating there could be additional times for me to attend but I replied stating that they did not fit my work or school schedule. I needed this certification before November 1st as a deadline set by my graduate school. I politely asked for a refund multiple times and was ignored, I was told once that there are no refunds but I have no other options, as I will now need to find a new course through a new provider. There is also no refund policy on the website through which I paid and I really would appreciate a refund since I am not able to receive the service I paid for. I feel it is deceiving and unethical to not have a refund policy listed on the website or a better system of reaching out about cancelled courses as people have busy lives and schedules.

Desired outcome: I would like a refund for the BLS course

American Heart Association new charge of aha cards

I am an AHA instructor for Early Childhood teachers. These preschool teachers make very little money in comparison to K-12 teachers and yet you have decided that it is ok to charge $20.00 per card to them. Early childhood teachers make on the average $13.84 per hour while a school age teacher makes on the average $26.82 per hour. So all this does is create less qualified early childhood teachers working with our young children, 4.8 million of them in organized group care per year.

This needs to be changed immediately. This is discriminatory against teachers who work with young children.

American Heart Association CPR Certification Courses

The American Heart Association makes a "business" out of selling "CPR Training Certification", but when asked for a simple request, "Would you please put the correct spelling of my name on my 2-year CPR Certificate?", are unable to comply stating "We subcontract all of this to others".

Remarkably, repeated requests to the American Heart Association went unresponded to.

To date, my time and effort in completion of the American Heart Association CPR training is for noght, as my "certification" has a grossly mispelled name that is unusable to me.

Chose your donation dollars, and CPR training dollars, wisely!

American Heart Association Unethical ,unprofessional and disrespectful solicition of donation

This is a complaint against the American Heart Association and their disgraceful way to solicit donations. My 80 year old father passed away in my arms in the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital where I work on March 23, 2008 Easter Sunday. One of my realtives sent a memorial in his name at that time, which I appreciated. My father and I had a wonderful relationship, I micro managed all of his medicals issues and I oved him very much .
One and a half years later I recieve a solicitaion addressed to my father and family name in care of myself. Inside were decorative stickers with my father and family name with happy anniversary, happy birthday ETC. ( his birthday would have been the month before) I find this appalling that a good enity would stoop so low to get a $15 donation. I find it wrong on every level, unethical, unprofessional, and very Disrepectful. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the Registrar of Charitable Trusts, Attorney General's Office California and have called the local and national American Heart Assn as well as written to the the director of Fundraising and Donations but no one has answered me. I do not believe that this a computer generated or a data base problem. It is a malicious attempt to play on the emotions of people who have lossed a close relative, it is disgusting and I have lossed much respect for this association. mgarozzo, sacramento

Vital Signs Mobile CPR in Sacramento, CA was condescending and unhelpful. Made the experience incredibly frustrating and would not want to go there again.

I am sorry to hear about your father, but I have to say that I completely disagree with you. I believe that the materials were sent as a solicitation but that the organization was certainly not aware of his death or birthday. How would they know that information? I truly believe that it was hard for you to deal with but the actions were far from malicious. If anything that organization would approach the living family members for possibly donations in honor or memory of your father.
