How responsive is American Eagle Outfitters's customer service?

Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how American Eagle Outfitters handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with American Eagle Outfitters and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

American Eagle Outfitters sales and discounts

I went in twice and there was a sign that said clearance items take an additional 40% off. Nothing was marked down so I was just 40% off. Clearance usually means it's on sale and take an additional the word additional means its marked down and you taking some more off. So the signs are false. You really need to change them. So your sales and clearance and additional 40% off wasn't any more than the regular price with 40% off like the rest of the store. False advertising false advertising false advertising.

American Eagle Outfitters rude employee

I have shopped the Tanger Outlets every year in Commerce, GA. I was very disappointed with rude service I received in the American Eagle store. The employee stood at the cash register and didn't even offer me assistance. When I asked for a dressing room, she gave me a dirty look and an attitude. I should have asked for a manager but I am not usually one to cause a scene. I reluctantly made a purchase for my granddaughter and saw the employee roll her eyes at another customer. I did not get her name but she was a young tall blonde who wore glasses. I was very disappointed with my visit since it was always pleasant in that location in the past. I hope someone will relay and address this issue or I'm afraid you will be losing repeat customers such as myself.

American Eagle Outfitters they gave me nothing but headache!

I do not recommend www.ae.com website, because in my opinion they are highly unprofessional and really hard to deal with. I made an order and it was quite a big one and I spent a lot of money. When my order arrived it was incomplete and it took me a lot of time to prove them I was not lying. They were very pushy and insisted they sent everything I've ordered.
Anyways, they sent the missing stuff and when I finally received them some items were incorrect. I don't want to deal with American Eagle in the future, they gave me nothing but headache!

American Eagle Outfitters missing items from my delivered order

Yes I placed an on line order for a sweater and 2 pair boots and when the package was delivered I only received the sweater weighing 3.90 lbs. I called UPS and they told me that, was the only item in the package that was ship was the sweater I was told that they had to contact the Research team and it will be 24 to 48 hours on Friday I contact someone on line they told me that I should be hearing from someone by the evening. On Saturday I reached out to only find out that yes the boots were not shipped but they are no longer in stocked . Very disappointing it was I that had to keep reaching out to AE not them to me. I will not be ordering from AE for a very long time, been a costumer since 2009.

American Eagle Outfitters lesson learned.

Never ordering something again from American Eagle! I made an online order on December 12, 2015. Today is already January 6 and I still received nothing. Yesterday the website finally updated the status of my order and only now it shows „shipped”. It means that only yesterday the label has been printed and for another 2 days they will prepare my order for shipping. The message l received today was very strange. It said two items were on backorder and one item shipped. Well, to begin with, I ordered only 1 item. I'm sure my item had been on backorder that whole time and I was never informed. The site shows my item will be delivered within 7 days. And this was a mess just for 1 overpriced shirt!

American Eagle Outfitters avoid these scammers!

I order four shirts from American Eagle only to receive one shirt and three pairs of men's shoes. These shirts supposed to be Christmas presents for my friends, so I contacted American Eagle and asked them to send me the correct items in time for Christmas. I told I will send them back the shoes. They asked me to return the wrong items at my cost and I did. After that they ignored all my messages. Week ago I finally received an email stating they will not send me the missing items or refund my credit card! They also mentioned they will not refund the postage. That was their mistake, but they won’t take responsibility for it. Horrible company! They promised to send me my shirts, but I was fooled by them and I feel very disappointed. Avoid these scammers at all costs.

American Eagle Outfitters hoodie

I bought a hoodie last sunday, and when i got home, while i was showing it to my sister i found there a small cut. So as anyone would do, i went back to the store to replace it on tuesday. But when i got there i was surprised by what happened. I showed it to one of the staff he told me he should get the manager, when he came he told me "That is not our problem, this seems to be cut while you where using it" as if he is saying i'm lying but in a better way.I was so angry at that moment but i realy held my self from making any problems. Then I asked him what shall we do at this sitiuation...he told me the hoodie is going to be showed to a (something) team an they will contact you within two days. I waited for there call for 3 days, but no one called.so i went back to the store he told me the same thing that this problem isnot their's. Still don't know what shall i do in this situation

American Eagle Outfitters customer service mistreats customers

I don't usually write to companies to make a complaint nor write up reviews online about mistreatment. After the phone call I just got off of, this is warranted. I have been shopping at American Eagle since high school. Not to date myself, but that's almost 20 years. I'm a pretty loyal customer and have always found AE's clothes to be the perfect fit. Even when they redesigned their jeans at one point, I stayed loyal by purchasing shirts instead. I placed two high dollar orders in the month of May. The second order wasn't completely fulfilled as one of the shirts was out of stock. Another one of the shirts was the wrong color. The woman on the phone could have cared less. She was indignant from the start and I hung up at the end feeling like AE doesn't need my money. I called her out on her attitude but that made no difference. She treated me like a freeloader and was incapable of empathy. I wrote an email as soon as I got off of the phone. A simple apology would suffice but if they are incapable of extending the olive branch, then there are other businesses that are demanding peoples attention.

American Eagle Outfitters website technical difficulties and customer service

I am a frequent customer at american eagle, and have recently received many discount coupons from my aerewards account. So I went on ae.com to use my 40% off coupon and every time I entered the discount code, the products in my bag said "free" and the total balance read as $0.00. This also happened to me in three orders I had placed before. (I thought maybe the problem was my computer, but even when I tried on a different one the same problem occurred.) so I tried to enter the discount code again and again and again and still no change. When I went to place my order, the real amount finally showed up. So I entered the discount code again and the correct amount including 40% off showed up. So when I pressed "place order," the total amount changed back to the original price without the discount! I went back and read my order and it charged my card an extra $50! I immediately called customer service and they said all they could do was refund me the difference in gift card form because the order was paid for partially by gift card. Which is unfair because the extra amount was charged onto my credit card. I had no desire for an ae gift card after the problem that just occurred, I just wanted my money back! I am so frustrated and disappointed because I loved ae. Unfortunately, I will not be shopping at ae.com anymore.

American Eagle Outfitters return payment never received

i have placed an order online which was never arrived, and no one was able to tell me what went wrong. the tracking didn't tell me anything useful. the responsiveness of their customer service is bad. they either ignore your messages or ignore some questions. You won't get any reply at times. After numorous emails to the customer service, someone replied and asked me to pick the package up at the post office and they willl treat it as a returned order. The return payment was processed on Nov 29, but up till today (Jan 18), i still have not received the credit to my credit card. I emailed and called them a good number of times, and i followed what they have asked me to do, but at the end, no response again. I should have just dispute the charge from the beginning. I will not buy from American Eagle online EVER again.

American Eagle Outfitters invalid gift card

My teenage son purchased a $50 gift card for his sister as a gift. She attempted to use the card several months later at the AE in Amarillo, TX and the clerk said it had a zero balance. She told us to call customer service. As their mother, I called customer service four times to get this situation resolved and get my son's $50 returned (of course in another Gift Card). On the 4th call, the agent said she would send my son a new $50 card in the mail. That's it--no apology for all of our trouble...no additional money on the card...NOTHING. AMERICAN EAGLE DID NOT EVEN VALIDATE THE ORIGINAL CARD UPON PURCHASE AND THEY DID NOT CARE THAT IT TOOK ME FOUR PHONE CALLS TO GET THE MONEY RETURNED. I WILL NEVER SHOP AMERICAN EAGLE AGAIN IF THIS IS THE WAY THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS. They could have looked at my son's account to see that he spends hundreds of dollars a year with them and just maybe, MAYBE, be concerned about keeping a dedicated customer happy, but NO. American Eagle does not care about their dedicated customers. Keep that in mind as you go shopping next time. Also NEVER BUY GIFT CARDS!

American Eagle Outfitters shipping charges incorrect

I have recently placed two orders to be delivered to England. Whilst placing the orders the shipping cost was shown to be £4.42 Sterling. An email came through to show they had charged $50 for shipping on each order. I tried to cancel immediately my order. But was told I couldn't. I find this totally unacceptable to be charged $50 twice when it was shown on the order form to be £4.42. Please refund immediately the difference.

American Eagle Outfitters two day delivery is a hoax

I ordered several items from American Eagle for Christmas on December 20, 2011. I paid an additional $5.00 for the two day delivery that was offered. I checked with my band and American Eagle charged my credit card for $280.00 on December 21, 2011. I should have received my items today which is December 23, 2011. After calling this evening and speaking to an American Eagle customer service representative named Nate, I was told that there would be no way that I would received my items by Christmas. However, this morning I called and spoke to Mary, she assured me that I would receive my items on time. Nate, was not able to give me a legitimate reason as to why American Eagle had not shipped out my merchandise. He did tell me that I would probably not receive these items until several days after Christmas. He told me that he would refund my $5.00 when American Eagle shipped my merchandise and that he would give me 40% off and FREE two day shipping on my next order. These were Christmas presents for five different family members.

American Eagle Outfitters phone customer service

I would advise buyers to beware before purchasing any items by phone. I ordered a pair of sweatpants by speaking with one of the representatives because the online $10 discount code that I had wasn't working. After I completed the transaction over the phone, I waited for an email confirmation (which big brands like AE should send right away), which I haven't received to this day. I called AE 3 times, because I had no idea where the item was and when I would receive it. AE has already charged my credit card, so I was assuming that at least they didn't forget about me. I ordered the item on November 27th and I am SUPPOSE to receive it two days from today.
I guess free shipping offer does come with a price.
I would never, EVER order anything over the phone. I'm not sure if I'll shop in AE at all anymore.

American Eagle Outfitters poor service

Got my Christmas order today from AE (ordered on-line). The coat I ordered was not included - a pair of kids jeans (I ordered no kids clothes) was included. Called customer service. I have to 1) wait to get a return mailing label and then package up and ship the item I never ordered back to them; 2) Wait for that item to get back to get a refund for the coat I NEVER GOT; 3) reorder the coat, getting a second charge on my credit card. The final straw was that I had to give my credit card info over the phone. When I told the agent that the phone was not a secure way to give out my credit card number I got a snotty "We're not in the business of selling credit card numbers!". I cancelled the coat - still have to wait for the refund and now have to find another Christmas present. I will NEVER shop at AE again.

American Eagle Outfitters american eagle clothing quality

I went to American Eagle last week and I was about to put a shirt on (gently) and the strap broke. It wasn't anything thin and I didn't put it on harshly. I was able to sew the strap on again and I wore it for one day. During the day, the shirt ended up ripping around the waist while i was trying to reach something off a tall cupboard. The quality of this shirt was very poor and I am very disappointed with the company.

American Eagle Outfitters associate

I was in the store @ West Towne Mall on 12/11/2010. I was standing in line for about 10 minutes there were 4 cashiers, as one of the cashiers finished her transaction & the lady left, I proceded to the cashier. As I did, the girl said we are only taking people from the line @ the rope, which I had been standing in for 10 min prior. I tried to explain & she said I have already told the girl in line to come. I started back to the line & the other lady said she was here first but the cashier still didnt understand. As I started to leave the other line opened up & the other girl went to the line. So the cashier had to check me out. I was completly pissed at this point. If there had been a crowd of people I could have understood but there wasnt ! Maybe 2 people in line besides me. I am very tired of this treatment by associates. I probably wont ever shop there again. I will call the manager over this also.

I've been working retail for many years and what people need to understand is that we have to deal with doing a lot of things at once, in a timely manner, for EVERYONE. We try to be as productive as possible...maybe the cashier was focused on giving the person at the register a good experience and did not see what was happening behind the customer in the line. Staying in line until you are called is then up to the customer...10 year olds can do that. I just wish people would realize that they are not the only one in the store with needs.

American Eagle Outfitters who to contact - no service

I went to an American Eagle in West Virginia. There was one person at the register.. I needed to try some clothes on before purchasing.. he was busy with customers. Not his fault; I understand that. I got in line to ask for a dressing room. While in line, another worker came from the back. Talked to the guy at the register, looked at all of us in line (probably 10+ people), and then went back to the back without asking if anybody needed help. There needed to be more workers in there or the girl should've asked if she could help until the crowd died down. I ended up just leaving without buying anything. This isn't the first time I've been in there, and they've seemed to be short on employees or employees who don't care.

I was wondering if anybody knew who I would contact about this? I was told by a friend to contact the district manager. I have no idea how to go about finding out who it is or their contact information. I sent an email to customer service and all they told me was to give them the complaint and they will forward it to the appropriate person. I am not comfortable doing that because I feel as though it won't in face be forwarded. I would rather contact somebody myself.

Honestly, that employee could have been on break. Rather than expecting an employee to be able to read your mind, you could have just asked the second one if they would mind opening a fitting room for you. I'm sure that even if they were on break they wouldn't have minded.

American Eagle Outfitters returns

I went to american eagle to return some shorts.. Never worn them.. Took the tags off but I went in the store to return them. I had the tags and the receipt present with me. I guess the manager was upset or something because I was returning them. I understand how returns hurt the store. I work in retail as well. But I know that I never worn the shorts. He was complaining about the short they look worn there stains this and that but there was nothing there. I could'nt even wear the shorts. They were to big for me. He was screaming and yelling and was giving me an attitude. He was rolling his eyes and being very ugly to me. I have shopped at that american eagle at barton creek mall for years now. I will call customer service on him and let him know how I was treated. I feel like I could never go in there again. I am stuck with a pair of shorts that are to big and I dont want. He would not even let me exchange them. The american eagle at barton creek mall in austin tx. Is very rude and unfriendly.

American Eagle Outfitters discrimination

While on a visit to Georgia, a group of my friends and I went to American Eagle to see what they had. We went in and started looking at some of the clothes. A pretty blue sweater caught my attention, so I went over to it to see how much it was.

I noticed that one of the workers soon came close to where I was and started to fiddle with clothes. I was a little suspicious about this, but blew it off and went to a different section. That same worker followed me a few minutes later, again fiddling with some clothing.

I was now slightly agitated and went to look at the jewelry. There is like this open space in the wall that I went through to get to the jewelry ( I honesty don't understand the point of that since there are no separate closed rooms there). I turned around to call over one of my friends to look at a necklace when the same guy came through the way I came.

That guy had a cheesy look on his face, since he saw that I knew he was following me. My friends and I soon left that store. I don't really want to buy anything from AE anymore.

What bothers me is that no one else in the store was being monitored but me. There were at least eight other people there. Also, the workers were basically saying I'm so stupid that I would take something when there are cameras everywhere (not that would steal if they weren't).

I won't mention what race the workers were, but all of them were the same race and I am different from them. There were other customers in the store that were their race, and they didn't bother them. I don't know if it was because I wasn't from their area, but it still wasn't right.

This is a side note, but I was wondering if this is happening to other people: I noticed that if I search for an article or click on a topic that is not on the sidebar on this site, I am logged out for some reason. I have to refresh to get logged back in. Is this only happening to my computer?
