I had ordered two pairs of jeans off American Eagle's website about a week ago. I received the jeans and realized that they were too big for me. Friday, March 6th I went to the American Eagle in the Bridgewater mall to return the jeans and look for a smaller size. After I returned the jeans, my friend and I began to look at some other jeans. My friend noticed that a woman walked up to one of the associates and started laughing while she looked at the size of the jeans that I returned as the associate was folding them to put them away. Right then, all the other associates started laughing and my friend told me to turn around and I saw the few women stare at the pants size and laugh again. I gave them a look and walked out. I did not say anything because I mostly was shocked. I was going to ask to see a manager but I was afraid that all 3 women would go against me and possibly the manager could have been one of the women who were laughing. I have never experianced service such as this at a store before. It was extremely uncalled for and I am going to call the store itself to talk to the manager. I will never go to American Eagle again, and I will definitely tell my friends not to go to the one in Bridgewater again because you will only feel incredibly degraded there like I was.

Wow, after reading all the negative posts here, I was really surprised. I love American Eagle jeans and basics, like tees and scarves and sweats. I've never had a bad experience there at all. In fact, I once purchased some sale jeans, can't recall the specific style name...but I wire them one time and they ripped between the crotch and pocket area. They wern't tight, nor did I bend or flex in any way that should have caused the rip. I'd purchased 3 identical pr. Naturally I was concerned the remaining prs might do the same. I called my local store at the time, spoke to the manager and explained. Wish I could remember her name. She was kind, patient and said they'd had other returns the same style that'd ripped the same way. She told me the hours she'd be in next and I went to the store to get a refund, etc...When I arrived, she personally helped me. Gave me a refund for all 3 pr and made helpful suggestions re: which other styles were comparable in size/price but they'd had no problems with the quality of the denim. I was very satisfied. Since that time I've relocated to an area of the US that has no nearby Am Eagle store...and I miss shopping there. The fit was always so reliable, I never even had to try anything on.
I am going to get a chance soon to see 1st hand how the whole customer service is handled! I did purchase another 2 pr online. Wore each just a handful if times. Again, not overly tight and regular use/wear only. Now they've gotten a weird stretched out area near the left side of the top of the thigh. Both pr show this. And they are identical in size and style. So...I'm going to attempt to obtain a credit or refund, something...and I no longer have the receipt. Guess I'll see how it goes! I sure hope I'll not be disappointed after being a loyal customer and having just now sung their praises! Wish me luck...lol

So I bought a pair of Jeans at AE. I have to admit I fell prey to the style, they do have a nice line of clothing. Sometimes a bit preppy, but nonetheless, it is quite nice. I started wearing them, and lo and behold, after two or three times, a small tear appeared on the back pocket of the jeans. I admit I didn't pay much attention to it, I think at first I thought it was supposed to be made like that.

Fast forward 2-3 weeks later, and the small tear is now a full hole in the back pocket, and two near tears have appeared; at the crotch level and the other back pocket. Really, American Eagle? 50$ for a pair of jeans, and three weeks later, already three holes?

It's a shame, truly, because they have nice stuff there, but boy is the quality bad. I understand I am making my statement based on one experience, but in today's world where it is so easy to switch from one brand to another, one bad experience is more than enough. Horrible quality.

I ordered a sweater on Nov 30 which made it. Then I was told I can pick one up at a mall in NY and after making the trip that store had no idea what I was talking about. And the only thing they could say in response to that was sorry. Horrible customer service. A company that does not care about their customers at all

The $10 off all jeans sale is not a scam, the company requests that the employees mark the price that they will be after the $10 off on the outside of the shelf. So for you to say you were scammed is going too far, if AE was to not put those signs up with the sale price people would still complain about them being too expensive or would say that its confusing for the store to have the full price up. Either way nobody wins, but to not shop at AE ever again just because you read something and misinterpreted it is pretty naive. AE is great quality clothing compared to hollister/abercrombie and a great value in comparison as well. Don't be hard headed

I went into AE today because they advertised a sale of $10 off all jeans in the store. I went in and also heard from the sales associates, "$10 off all jeans in the store!" Great! So after tying on several pair and deciding on two pair, I went to check out. He rang me up and said, $63.00 (they were $29.50 ea before the "$10 off deal) I said, thats not right, it should be $43.00 after the $10 off. He said, Oh that is $10 off, the price is already $10 off. REALLY? You didnt say "our jeans are all marked $10 off", you said "all of our jeans are $10 off. So naturally you see a price of $29.50 and you think they are going to be $19.50!
What a misleading scam! I will never go into another AE to shop again! Not to mention the "manager" was rude and condescending when she spoke to me.
As another customer said, there are plenty of other stores who dont try to scam customers and treat them with respect. Bye Bye American Eagle, you will never get a dime out of me!

I don't disagree with ts89 about there being mean people out there who would laugh at someone. However, a positive environment is something that American Eagle takes very seriously. If the associates were in fact laughing at the girl's size, it is unacceptable, but it should be a reflection of the individuals and not the company. Yes, the employees are the face of the company, but not everyone is perfect. I'm sure at one point, every single person has done something inappropriate that they regret. There are plenty of other AE stores that will drop anything to help a customer.

I am the mother of three teenagers who shop at American Eagle, regularly ... until today! We live in Rockford Il and the manager, Carmela was very rude and refused to be kind. We are a family that treats others with respect but the employees in this store have been a disgrace to our dignity and integrity. There are plenty of stores available ... we have decided to take our business elsewhere.

Just because YOU guys don't make fun of customers in your stores does not mean that others don't in their stores. Instead of telling this girl that her complaint is wrong or just in her head, be supportive. There are some mean people out there who would in fact do this. Don't be so naive.

I agree, they probably were not laughing at you, you were just self cautious about your weight. I worked at an AEO store and never have we made fun of customers. We more likely would spot someone that triggers a story we tell to each-other. I hope you at least got the correct size.

I wonder if you were being paranoid. Honestly, I have worked at American Eagle for many years and am a size 14/16. We CONSTANTLY have exchanges and returns for smaller or bigger sizes. It is incredibly unlikely that they were laughing about something they see several times a day. I do not work in the mall that you mentioned, but I am a manager of a store that discourages negative comments about customers and other associates alike. I have worked in about 6 different locations and this is a common theme. Every store I have worked in has had more than one associate who wore extended sizes (male and female). I think the idea that they were laughing at you is incredibly unlikely.
